Bronze Casting among the Ruins
Starting in the ancient cities of Mesopotamia, bronze sculptures have been discovered in these ruins
(Sturgis). Many more were discovered in the decorated tombs of the Chinese emperors, the
discovered towns of Pompeii and Herculaneum, making a great influence on the Renaissance period
(Sturgis). Bronze sculptures during this period came to the vanguard of art. However, many
centuries had passed before the necessary tools were created to make bronze casting easier during
the nineteenth century of the Industrial Revolution (Sturgis). Because of these utensils, bronze
casting sprang to the top of the art world again. In recent times, Paris is known for their bronze
sculptures since the middle of the nineteenth century. Factories for bronze casting leapt to the top in
Paris in order "to cast editions of bronze sculptures for the hundreds of artists who specialized in
bronze" (Sturgis). Paris became the place to go to in order to study this renowned style and have
their own sculptured edited to bronze (Sturgis). This desire for the artistic fascination caused
creations of many bronze sculptures whose beauty and majesty outshines the sculptures of modern
times (Sturgis). Paris in the middle of the nineteenth century held the peak of captivation of this
form of art. Bronze casting differed from city to city, century to century; however, they all followed
some of the basic steps to sculpting ("Bronze Sculpture"). First an artist would have to model the
sculpture by using a range

Hinduism : Two Religions And Beliefs Of Hinduism
One of the two main religions in India is Hinduism. It is also the world's third largest religion with
its followers being in the billions. Hinduism however was not founded by an entity or person, time,
or book. There are many different beliefs and viewpoints that do not always line up with one another
but it only those who practice Hinduism can understand and partake in these discussions. An article
written by Christian Violatti explains that it is why such practices such as yoga or meditation is in
many displays of Hinduism. These rituals do not exclaim that one practice is better than the other
but it does include the gods of this religion however (Violatti 1). Hinduism has many different gods
and goddesses as part of its religion. One of these gods is Shiva. Shiva is one of the most important
gods in Hinduism. He is part of the three most important gods in Hinduism, along with Brahma and
Vishnu. All three are part of the "trimurti", which translates from Hindu to the "holy trinity". Shiva
has many characteristics which contradict each other. He can be benevolent, represent the good in
the world, and be the Protector. On the other side of the coin he is the leader of evil specters,
monsters, and is the master to thieves and panhandlers. Shiva is also associated with time and is
both the destroyer and creator of all things. One article written by Mark Cartwright titled just
"Shiva" says that "In Hinduism, the universe is thought to regenerate in cycles

Electrosteel Casting Ltd.
The Electrosteel Castings case is about an Indian ductile iron pipe (DIP) and cast iron pipe (CIP)
manufacturer's decision to internationalize. The central issue is about the choice of where to go, and
the choice of the type of investment the company will pursue. This paper will analyze the options
available for the company and recommend the best solution.
1. Electrosteel options
As for the location, Electrosteel has two options: France and Vietnam.
France is attractive because it could be used as a strategic base to access the entire European Union
because a manufacturer located in any EU country is considered a local supplier for all other EU
countries.

On the other hand, the Asian market still lacks local manufacturers. Not only Vietnam but
Cambodia, Brunei and Singapore do not have local manufacturers. If Electrosteel could move
quickly and establish itself as a high quality local manufacturer, this could be a source of
competitive advantage. The low labor cost would also contribute as a benefit. In the best case
scenario, Electrosteel could use Vietnam as a production base to serve the entire Southeast Asia
market, not just Vietnam. However, some risk factors have to be taken into consideration. One
would be the fact that earlier record of foreign manufacturers in Vietnam had been poor. It would be
necessary to conduct further research to determine the reasons behind the failure. Another issue
would be port facilities. Do the port facilities meet the needs and standards required? A third issue
would be the skill of the labor force because the manufacturing process for the DIP requires
expertise at each step. Demand for DIP could also be a potential problem because in general,
developing countries tended to favor lower cost pipe alternatives due to restricted funding.
3. Recommendation Given the analysis, I would recommend Electrosteel to build a finishing line in
Vietnam and utilize its' existing facilities in India to for the casting process. The DIP production line
has excess capacity of 20,000 tonnes that can be sent to Vietnam as

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Casting Making
Casting is one of the earliest manufacturing process. It is the first step in making most of the
materials.
Steps: – Making mould cavity – Material is first liquefied by properly heating it in a suitable
furnace. – Liquid is discharged into a prepared mould cavity – allowed to solidify – product is taken
out of the mould cavity, trimmed and made to shape
We should focus on the following for successful casting operation:
(i) Constructing of moulds of patterns
(ii) Melting and discharging of the liquefied metal
(iii) Solidification and further cooling to room temperature

Patera Essay
The explicit journey through the history of Patera The Patera found in Greek South of Italy during

of the Kouros and multipurpose usage it served. The bronze material which the Patera was crafted

It started out as a cup to pour libations and eat out of during dinners or at religious ceremonies.
(Wonderlich, Silvia A 165). However, it was different from other drinking vessels. It was used as a
piece of weaponry or armour prop by King Pterelas during his comedic plays (Polt, Christopher
233). The verb potirara means to drink which plays off the word Pater. (Polt, Christopher 233). The
connection between potirara and Patera had an influence on how the audience had looked at King
Pterelas, he was portrayed as a drunk (Polt, Christopher 233). Pterelas was not a king who merely
drank, but one who drank continuously (Polt, Christopher 233). King Pterelas was not the first to
use the Patera as a prop. On Corinthian coin of Augustus, Octavia is represented seated holding a
scepter and a Patera (Frazer, J.G 23). It only makes sense to have a goddess pose with something
just as valuable as she is. When the Patera was not being used as prop it was used as a form of
sacrifice (Walker, J). The blood of the victim would go into the Patera has poured into the sea by the
way of libation (Walker, J). Most religious people would abstain from eating or drinking from the
Patera because of the sacrifices that were being done (Smith, William and Anthon, Charles 738).

purpose. It was not taken for

The Worst Casting Decisions In The Film
Saoirse Ronan. She is like Maggie Gyllenhaal in the sense they are the definition of what a bad
actress is. I am not going to go into the untalented Gyllenhaal sibling as I am about to go into why
Ronan as Scarlet Witch would have been the worst casting decision in comicbook films since
Arnold Schwarzenegger as Mr. Freeze and Uma Thurman as Poison Ivy. There have obviously been
bad casting decisions in these types of films since but nothing as atrocious as Schwarzenegger and
Thurman (bad actors by the way) and Ronan would have joined those two. These will not be just
five reasons but also five exhibits of not just her inability as an actor but why she lacks certain
necessities needed to play Scarlet Witch.
The clip is from the movie Hanna. She lacks in this clip as with her other roles (the host is too easy
to pick apart) the ability to convince. As an audience member, I am not convinced that she is not
only this girl. I am not convinced she is feeling any emotion or means anything she says. In the film,
I don't believe she could kill anyone. Her behavior in this clip is suppose to be what exactly? That is
why reason number four is this

an imagination but things like this (and characters like MODOK) is where it gets to unbelievable for
me. I want to be able to be convinced she can kick ass so I can buy her playing Scarlet Witch. But,
Scarlet Witch is also very powerful and in early stages with her powers, they fluctuate on her at
times which can makes things a bit conflicting which is

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Die Casting
1. Hot tear is an irreversible failure or crack formed in casting. It is commonly related to the
inadequate compensation of solidification shrinkage by melt flow with the occurrence of thermal
stresses. Controlling the right pouring temperature, prevention of rapid changes in section and
consistency in cooling rates can be done as remedies to this phenomenon.
2. Die Casting is a manufacturing process that can create geometrically complex metal parts by
using conveniently reusable molds that are commercially referred to as dies.
Processes:
 Clamping–clean the earlier injection and then apply oil to ease the application of the next process
 Injection–manage the temperature for the molten metal in the furnace in preparation for its
delivery to a hollow then inserted in the die.

A system that comprises all the essentials of molten metal from the ladle to the mold cavity is
referred to as the Gating System. Gating systems are commonly composed or element such assprue,
sprue base well, ingrate, pouring basin, runner, runner extension, and riser.
7. A sprue ought to be tapered in order to minimize if not prevent the occurrence of vortex. It can be
used to scatter the kinetic energy of the dropping stream and avoid splashing and turbulence as the
metal is subjected to spinning in the runner.
8. Defects of die casting are as follows:
a. Shrinkage defects –happens when thick metal hardens because of the unavailability of standard
feed material.
b. Gas porosity –bubble formation present on the cast after cooling process.
c. Mold shift –commonly happens at the final line when parts of the cast are misassembled.
d. Rough surface finish – phenomena wherein too much fluidity of the metal is occurs and hard
pouring takes place.
Usage of proper mold of sad, perfect placement of feeders and uniform pattern alignment are ways
on how these abovementioned defects can be prevented.

northernorthotics.com.au – Proper Casting and Bracing for Full Rehabilitation and Healing
When an injury occurs to bones, muscles, ligaments or even cartilages, it often requires proper
casting and bracing with or without surgery for full rehabilitation and healing of the damaged area.
A number of different devices are available today to ensure that each body part receives the correct
support, so it can soon return to normal functioning. The casting or bracing method that is effective
for you will depend upon how severe the injury is and where it is in your body.
What Casting or Bracing Accomplishes With Injuries
The appropriate braces or casts will immobilise the injury fully or partially to allow the muscles,
bones, cartilages, tendons or ligaments to heal sufficient to regain normal functioning. At times,
these orthotic devices also offer additional support to the area of a body that has been weakened by

Colorblind Casting
Not only as a tool of entertainment, television also serves as an instruction tool because television
can be the reflection of culture, race and gender. Because of the diversity of the audiences,
expanding diversity is necessary in the television industry. More and more shows begin to feature
minority group; however, the representation of minorities still has issues of underrepresentation and
stereotype because producers believe casting minorities can't make money. It is no doubt that white
actors disproportionally dominate the screen and minority actors are often characterized as criminal
and immoral roles. The colorblind casting and a diverse writers' room are effective measures to
solve those challenges. Those strategies enable minorities ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

For example, Insecure by HBO is a great show to explore African–American women's life
experience by mainly focusing on two black female characters. As lead roles, they have time and
chances to be displayed comprehensively. Expanding the diversity of writer's room is also
significant in combatting those challenges. Only the diversity we see on screen is not enough.
Stories are told from writers' perspectives. The diverse make–up of team helps improve the diversity
of the show. For example, if writers are all white or from the majority group, it is hard for them to
write a show that truly represents minorities because they cannot understand the feeling of being
minorities. Just like what Kenya Barris, the creator of Black–ish, said in class, voice is the most
important thing for creators. Writers from the minority group create more convincing and sincerer
stories because stories are from their own personal experiences. The reason why Black–ish is
compelling is it was written from Kenya's own point of view. Compared to the majority group,
minorities writers are easier to understand racial and ethnic issues. The writers' room of Black–ish
was "far more diverse, in gender and in race, than most sitcom rooms" (Nussbaum). In the lecture,
Kenya introduced that many staffs of Black–ish were women because he believed women are more
likely to feel being outside as minorities. Relating the theme of the story to racial or ethnic issues
also helps diversify minorities representations. Writers from the minority group can incorporate
social issues or real politics into plots when they write. The episode of Hope of Black–ish is a
successful example. The theme of this episode is about police violence against black people. In the
whole episode, Dre led his whole family to discuss the justice for black people. By

Nontraditional Casting
Nontraditional Casting
Nontraditional casting is also known as colour–blind casting and integrated casting. Non–traditional
casting is defined as the casting of ethnic minority and female actors in roles where race, ethnicity,
or sex is not considered. Watching Hollywood movies, there is much diversity in a movie depending
on what the genre is. Hollywood looks for actors that fit the physical and talent description directors
are looking for. Hollywood work with what they only have, not based on color. Hollywood actually
takes advantage of the multicultural world. If they need an African American, American Asian,

Miranda has Puerto Rican parents which has had a major influence on his reasoning to "blind cast"
his shows.Hamilton won the Pulitzer prize and eleven tonys.
This piece targets sexuality in a form that is not used often. When people delve into history they
tend to look at our historical figures as a hero. People do not typically think of these people as being
flawed in their nature. This song demonstrates that
Hamilton was not a hero. He was a human and he made mistakes. In the context of the song, we see
him choose to make this choice. We see him regret it as well. This piece helps to create a social
construct and really change the meaning of what a hero is.
Without using music and sexuality in this case, we would have never got to really delve into the
flawed persona of Hamilton. This piece helps to advance the plot in unexpected ways. This score of a
Broadway show was composed about the story of our underrated founding father, Alexander
Hamilton. Although written in the 21st century by

today. In his original casting of the show, each role was cast to a minority in our country, except for
the role of King George; who was given to Jonathan Groff, to offer some English historical
significance. This type of casting is still present in the show

The Influence Of Casting In A Doll's House
Do plays the way they were written. As a more and more progressive society has emerged within the
world of the arts, a more progressive mindset has been involved when casting a production. Plays
and Musicals have both started to adapt a "color blind eye" when casting a production. Whether it be
a hit musical like Hamilton, or a classical piece such as Shakespeare's Hamlet, more and more
companies are turning the other head to casting based on race.
These casting trends have spread across a wide variety of venues, from professional theaters in
Boston, to college productions. African Americans, Native Americans, Argentines, Jewish, Spanish
and many other races have been played by white actors. On the other hand, many roles that were

One production that stood out for casting the correct race was The Huntington Theatre Company's
production of the Who and the What. It was a play involving a Muslim family and how American
society effects their way of life. It was beautifully casted and stuck to the playwrights vision of the
piece. The use of actual Muslim actors created a real atmosphere for the world of the play and
eliminated any confusion that may have been caused from racial blind casting.
Another production well casted was Company One's production of Really. It was a play about a
relationship between a women and her deceased boyfriend's mother. She was an African American
and the boyfriend was white. The struggles of this relationship did appear at points and was very
well done. Nothing was confusing about the casting.
This is a global phenomena that is only going to get worse. Hamilton the musical is, for the most
part historically accurate when it comes to racial casting, but as more musicals are written that
incorporates the hip–hop world, more and more blind racial casting will occur to allow for different
African American rappers to attempt to play a part. Broadway has begun to almost forget race
entirely when it comes to casting and this will lead to serious problems with the future quality of

Taking a Look at Hollow Slip Casting
Introduction Slip casting is a technique used to mass–produce ceramic shapes that are not easily
made on a wheel. To perform slip casting, a plaster mold is filled with a liquid clay casting slip. The
water inside the casting slip is drawn to the plaster mold until a layer of solid clay is left deposited
onto the mold walls. Once the right thickness is achieved, the excess casting slip is poured off and a
hollow cast remains. Slip casting has been a large impression on society through its commercial
applications. Because of its low cost and ease of mass–production, many everyday items have been
casted using slip such as: figurines, doll faces, dishes, flowerpots, lamp bases, toilets[1]. The
recycling ability of slip is another asset, since the loss ratio is an inevitable part to the slip casting
procedure. Slip casting has many advantages. The slip casting process allows for the creation of high
detailed duplicates. Slip casting opens the door to experiment with recipes that lack plasticity such
as bone china, talc, or spodumene bodies[1]. The slip casting process is also a favored technique
because it can produce very consistent results, results like equal density during formation.
Traditional slips are mixtures of clays, non–plastic minerals, deflocculates, water, and occasionally
flocculants. A deflocculant is an electrolyte enables fluidity with a minimal amount of water. Less
water results in far less shrinkage and greater strength. On the other hand, a

Metallurgical and Materials Engineering Department,
Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, Roorkee
Abstract
Casting is one of the major metallurgical operations carried out in the manufacturing industry. Given
the large scale of operations, the number of defects in the process also goes up with the development
of the time and methods of the processing. Although, we have managed to cover up for the defects
in the procedure, yet the remnants pose a huge problem. Now, every property attributes its relations
to the casting process and the correlation of the defect in the microstructure, ductility, machinability,
etc. all trace their reasons back to the type of casting or the defect associated with it. In the present
study, we have tried to analyze two main types of defects mainly, filling and thermal defects, with
their sub–types along with the causes, effects on the properties and remedies.
Keywords: Casting Defects; Filling Defects; Thermal Defects.
1. Introduction
Casting is a process of manufacturing where the liquid material is poured into a mould and let to
solidify over a period of time [1–5]. This process has major implications in the manufacturing
industry and several operations are heavily dependent on this. It is of utmost importance that the
process of casting is understood in depth and the processing is carried out with

Media And Broad Casting Mass Media
For a long time, people receive news on the printed source such as newspaper, magazine which
published by newspaper company or publishing company. A little while a go, people got another
news source which are radio and television. Most country start with public broad casting and while
later, the radio or television company established and start broadcasting own programs. Both literary
media and broad casting mass media are mostly driven by big company and each of those company
has own political stance or sponsor and those factor heavily reflected to the articles or programs they
published. Back in the days, these biased article provide versatility to individual issues. For example
the press called Partisan Press which has clear political bias and it attracted the different group of
people.(Sikka, Week4 Lecture) The issue now publish and broadcast media is lack of versatility by
concentration of the ownership. Consequence of the capitalism society, many of the company which
produce news bought by bigger powerful company and it end up with under around 10 company are
owning media nowadays and this concentration of media ownership leads to the lack of versatility.
(Lorimer, 249) After the internet technology available to the public, the issue of versatility starts to
solve gradually by individual's blog or the rapid rising of micro–blog service use such as "Twitter".

INTRODUCTION
1.1 Aluminium:
Aluminium is a chemical element in the boron group with symbol Al and atomic number 13. It is
available in large quantity. It is combined with 270 different materials. Aluminium is good for
corrosion resistance. Aluminium is soft, light weight and ductile material. It can be easily machined
and extruded.
1.2 Alloy:
An alloy is a material formed by two or more chemical elements that has metallic properties, in
which at least one is a metal. Alloys are designed and produced to have some desirable
characteristics like formability, strength and corrosion resistance. Chemical composition of metallic
atoms dominate and metallic bond in its crystal structure. Elements commonly alloyed aluminium

False Casting
"Cast the best actors not the best looks" I would add to this as High School teachers that grade level
is not the best indication of maturity level. I have also learned that casting at the High School level
can be challenging because the students time is often not their own. Homework, other activities and
parental obligations can make casting a minefield of hazards waiting to blow up a production. I have
often felt I have better than average judgement when it comes to casting, I have seen co–workers

Advantage And Disadvantage Of Golden Jewellery
Golden Jewellery: To manufacture golden jewellery the moulding technique that can be used is
investment casting because investment casting is usually used to make small components with
complex shapes. The process of investment casting is as follow:
First of all the component to be made is moulded into wax by pouring the wax in a metal die to
make the shape of the component. the metal core is replaced by a wax core then it is all dipped into
liquefied ceramic several times making the mould become thicker and thicker after the ceramic
cools down, the mould is heated to 730 degrees which causes the wax to melt out of the ceramic
mould and also it makes the mould much more stronger. the reason for the mould becoming stronger

creation." (Miranda) January 16, 1980, Puerto Rican parents, clinical psychologist Luz Towns
Miranda and political consultant Luis A. Miranda Jr. brought Lin–Manuel Miranda into this world.
In New York City, Miranda and his sister were raised by their Broadway loving parents. Both
children were encouraged musically by their mother and father, taking piano lessons early in life and
were exposed to a wide range of musical genres. New York life greatly influenced Miranda's love
for hip hop and rap, and as he attended Hunter College's elementary and high schools, he performed

music in the hit Disney animation Moana, and rehearsing for the upcoming film Mary Poppins

is a hard worker who influences adolescents curiosity and enthusiasm about American history.
Lin–Manuel Miranda is a fantastic example for a role model because of his hard work and
dedication. Miranda is a master multi tasker, working on numerous songs and shows at once. As he
performed the role Hamilton in his very own play, Hamilton, he also co–wrote the songs for
Disney's upcoming motion picture Moana, along with handling the task of being a first–time father.
In an interview, Miranda addresses the label 'genius' that he has been given due to `his Broadway

Race-Conscious Casting Analysis
In the article review "Race–Conscious Casting ..." Lyra D. Monteiro claims that Lin–Manuel
Miranda's Hamilton lacks the other parts of history that are important to African Americans. The
examples in history that are important to African Americans are when the slaves were free or when
they were finally given rights in America, and their involvement and development in the Harlem
Renaissance.
Lyra D. Monteiro criticizes Lin–Manuel Miranda for not addressing the problems such as slavery
and the exclusion of the introduction of colored people in history. The color–bling casting that is
presented throughout the play has caused people to notice the way certain roles were given and
casted. An example of this is the "racialized musical forms that ... Show more content on

a slave being "present in one in five of the city's white households" (94). Miranda needs to credit or
create an addition to the play of expressing black lives in America during that time.
The untold truths in American history are a problem that need to be addressed. I agree with the
statements that were spoken about in the review, there are people that believe that the events such as
slavery should be in the play to show its importance. Monteiro's theory of that the events of slavery
and the history of the African America population during the American Revolution should not be left
out is extremely useful because it sheds light on the difficult problem of leaving out important
history.
The way that the black actors portray the founding fathers makes a mockery of the suffering of the
blacks experienced from ones that enslaved them. I agree that this is wrong not having the black
actors to portray their oppressors was done wrong instead they should have play the roles of African
Americans of that era and the influences they had in America. The use of black historical figures
during the American Revolution would have made the musical a little more

Benefits Of Casting The Vote For A Third Party
In my opinion, a constituent should cast their vote for a party that represents his or her core values.
Although the third party's power is limited, I do not think people should vote for the major party
candidate they dislike less. Hence, if a voter agrees with the third party's values, they should cast the
vote for that party. Moreover, supporting a third party can raise important concerns ignored by the
two major parties. Secondly, it may give voters more choices amongst candidates. Finally, new
parties may increase voter interest, since less than half of eligible voters participate in the voting
booth. After all, the main purpose of creating political parties is to increase political participation.

Non Traditional Casting
One of the most prevalent racial issues in America today is the representation gap: in all realms of
society, from politics to music, there is scarcity of minorities in the public eye. As there has been in
other industries with a significant representation gap, Broadway is being pushed to diversify. This is
for two primary reasons: a social one, increasing representation of minorities and therefore
decreasing ignorance based racism in society, and an economic one, drawing in new, bigger
audiences by making productions more relatable to a more people. This has resulted in in
movements towards non–traditional and color–blind casting, or casting which disregards the
traditional race unless it is essential to the script.
However, this has faced ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For any theatrical production to successfully entertain, it relies on suspension of disbelief. Giovanni
Frazzetto, in the peer reviewed journal Nature, writes, "In theater, suspension of disbelief hinges on
the switch between two realities– the set and the cast of actors, and the places and characters they
represent," (466). A show that intentionally creates a disconnect due to non–traditional casting could
potentially confuse an audience so they become to distracted to enjoy the show and suspend
disbelief. For example, a letter to the New York Times replying to the non–traditional casting of
Phylicia Rashad, an African American actor, shows a potential response to non–traditional casting:
"I am offended that Phylicia Rashad is playing a white woman's role in 'August: Osage County.' It
doesn't make sense that she would have white siblings and children. As brilliant as Ms. Rashad is,
the casting is off–kilter," (Fernandez). Producers, especially on Broadway where investments in a
show number in the millions, will logically make production decisions based on potential profits
(Bruinius). In an industry that traditionally has profited the most from Caucasian casts, it would take
a secondary motive to diversify or a belief that diversification is profitable for producers to regularly
use non–traditional

Johannes Gutenberg's New Casting
Johannes Gutenberg was born a modest merchant family in Germany. Where Johanne became
goldsmith apprentice. He was later forced out of his home because of a craftsman revolt against
wealthy nobles. He then moved to France, where he began his first printing experiments. Out of that
Gutenberg, being familiar with book making he invented a small metal type. Because of his
apprenticeship with Goldsmithing he developed a new casting system. He also made new metal
alloys in correlation with his new casting system, it allowed him to make his small metal type easier.
The first step in making a letter goes like this. First, you engrave a mirror image of the letter at the
end of a metal rod. The next step was to take a small block of soft copper. Then you would take the
metal rod with the desired letter and you would push it into the softened copper producing a pit in
the shape of the letter. This then acts a mold for the small metal type letter. ... Show more content on

book the line setter would then combine letters into lines that make up an individual page. The result
ends up being a mirror image of the copied page to be printed. The page form is then inked in with
printer's ink. Which is most commonly a black ink made of a lampblack varnish and egg white.
Printing could then start. Then a special press, Gutenberg derived from the idea of a traditional wine
press, would then place down the ink from the page ffor This process then could be used multiple

Reflection Of Shadow Casting
The Holter Museum, in Helena, MT, is currently displaying a series of work by John Saurer. Saurer
received his BA at Hope College in sculpture and drawing, he continued to earn his MFA at
Colorado State University in sculpture, and has been teaching art at St. Olaf College since 1995
(Saurer). His current exhibit is called Across Tender Land and was inspired by Saurer's surroundings
while growing up (Shadow Casting). On piece, in particular, caught my eye. His Shadow Casting
sculpture is around 75 pieces of welded steel and charred wood composed into different shapes
mounted on a wall. When I first saw this piece, I found it interesting, but as I got closer, sensored
lights came on and caused each piece to cast a shadow on the wall behind the sculpture. This piece
of art reminded me the incense burner that has been discussed in our book (Stokstad, 4–13). I was
reminded of the incense burner that was found in Prince Liu Sheng's tomb in China. Each piece was
created to be viewed with the help of an other medium; smoke and light. Shadow Casting becomes
much more aesthetically pleasing when the light casts the shadow, just as the incense burner
becomes more aesthetically pleasing when it is viewed with smoke swirling around the mountain
peaks. As I was looking at Shadow Casting, the first piece of art that came to mind was the incense
burner because of the special way each is viewed. As I continued to think about both pieces I
released they were, by majority, different, but

The steps taken for casting in a squeeze machine are : In squeeze machine, the mould box with
pattern and sand in it is placed on a fixed table. A flat plate or a rubber diaphragm is brought in
contact with the upper surface of the loose sand and pressure is applied by a pneumatically operated
piston. The squeezing action of the plate causes the sand particles to get packed tightly above and
around the pattern. Squeezing is continued until the mould attains the desired density. In some
machines, the squeeze plate may be stationary with the mould box moving upward. The density and
hardness of the rammed sand at the bottom of the mould box is less when compared to its top
portions and this can be considered as a disadvantage. Squeezer machines press the sand in the flask
between the machine table and overhead plate. Greatest mold density is obtained at the side of the
mold from which the pressure is applied. Because it is impossible to obtain uniform mold density by
this method, squeezing machines are limited to molds only a few inches in

Saint Michael Casting Satan Into Hell
One of the art pieces that I have chosen is called "Saint Michael Casting Satan into Hell" created by
Francesco Picano after a design by Lorenzo Vaccarno. This piece was made in 1705 in Italy
(Naples) during the times of Italy 's Renaissance movement. According to the article "Brief History
of Italy" by Tim Lambert states that, "The 18th century was an age of enlightenment when the
power of the church was curtailed"(sec 8). Which stating that during this time religion was highly
focused in their works as a gateway for new ideas. This artwork is located at the Los Angeles
County Museum of Art inside the Ahmanson building on the third floor, in the center of the exhibit
under European art. The reason why I chose this piece is because this piece was interesting, how
they represent the idea how it's represented in the stories that was focused in the work. As well as
how it's place near the center so people can observe it from many different angles. This piece is a
sculpture work that uses Polychromed wood and glass that were carved and molded into and it 's at
least two feet tall.
The next piece that I have chosen is called "Dancer's Headpiece in The Form of the Hindu Goddess

Steel is manufactured as a globally tradable product with no major trade barriers across national
boundaries to be seen currently. There is also no inherent resource related constraints which may
significantly affect production of the same or its capacity creation to respond to demand increases in
the global market. Even the government policy restrictions have been negligible worldwide and
even if there are any the same to respond to specific conditions in the market and have always been
temporary. Therefore, the industry in general and at a global level is unlikely to throw up substantive
competition issues in any national policy framework. Further, there are no natural monopoly
characteristics in steel. Therefore, one may not expect complex competition issues as those
witnessed in industries like telecom, electricity, natural gas, oil, etc.
This, however, does not mean that there is no relevant or serious competition issue in the steel
industry. The growing consolidation in the steel industry worldwide through mergers and
acquisitions has already thrown up several significant concerns. The fact that internationally steel
has always been an oligopolistic industry, sometimes has raised concerns about the anti–competitive
behaviours of large firms that dominate this industry. On the other hand the set of large firms that
characterize the industry has been changing over time.
Trade and other government policies have significant bearing on competition issues.

Bronze Casting Techniques across Ancient Cities and Centuries

  • 1. Bronze Casting among the Ruins Starting in the ancient cities of Mesopotamia, bronze sculptures have been discovered in these ruins (Sturgis). Many more were discovered in the decorated tombs of the Chinese emperors, the discovered towns of Pompeii and Herculaneum, making a great influence on the Renaissance period (Sturgis). Bronze sculptures during this period came to the vanguard of art. However, many centuries had passed before the necessary tools were created to make bronze casting easier during the nineteenth century of the Industrial Revolution (Sturgis). Because of these utensils, bronze casting sprang to the top of the art world again. In recent times, Paris is known for their bronze sculptures since the middle of the nineteenth century. Factories for bronze casting leapt to the top in Paris in order "to cast editions of bronze sculptures for the hundreds of artists who specialized in bronze" (Sturgis). Paris became the place to go to in order to study this renowned style and have their own sculptured edited to bronze (Sturgis). This desire for the artistic fascination caused creations of many bronze sculptures whose beauty and majesty outshines the sculptures of modern times (Sturgis). Paris in the middle of the nineteenth century held the peak of captivation of this form of art. Bronze casting differed from city to city, century to century; however, they all followed some of the basic steps to sculpting ("Bronze Sculpture"). First an artist would have to model the sculpture by using a range ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Hinduism : Two Religions And Beliefs Of Hinduism One of the two main religions in India is Hinduism. It is also the world's third largest religion with its followers being in the billions. Hinduism however was not founded by an entity or person, time, or book. There are many different beliefs and viewpoints that do not always line up with one another but it only those who practice Hinduism can understand and partake in these discussions. An article written by Christian Violatti explains that it is why such practices such as yoga or meditation is in many displays of Hinduism. These rituals do not exclaim that one practice is better than the other but it does include the gods of this religion however (Violatti 1). Hinduism has many different gods and goddesses as part of its religion. One of these gods is Shiva. Shiva is one of the most important gods in Hinduism. He is part of the three most important gods in Hinduism, along with Brahma and Vishnu. All three are part of the "trimurti", which translates from Hindu to the "holy trinity". Shiva has many characteristics which contradict each other. He can be benevolent, represent the good in the world, and be the Protector. On the other side of the coin he is the leader of evil specters, monsters, and is the master to thieves and panhandlers. Shiva is also associated with time and is both the destroyer and creator of all things. One article written by Mark Cartwright titled just "Shiva" says that "In Hinduism, the universe is thought to regenerate in cycles ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Electrosteel Casting Ltd. The Electrosteel Castings case is about an Indian ductile iron pipe (DIP) and cast iron pipe (CIP) manufacturer's decision to internationalize. The central issue is about the choice of where to go, and the choice of the type of investment the company will pursue. This paper will analyze the options available for the company and recommend the best solution. 1. Electrosteel options As for the location, Electrosteel has two options: France and Vietnam. France is attractive because it could be used as a strategic base to access the entire European Union because a manufacturer located in any EU country is considered a local supplier for all other EU countries. The European market is large, stable and has common standards. Country risk ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On the other hand, the Asian market still lacks local manufacturers. Not only Vietnam but Cambodia, Brunei and Singapore do not have local manufacturers. If Electrosteel could move quickly and establish itself as a high quality local manufacturer, this could be a source of competitive advantage. The low labor cost would also contribute as a benefit. In the best case scenario, Electrosteel could use Vietnam as a production base to serve the entire Southeast Asia market, not just Vietnam. However, some risk factors have to be taken into consideration. One would be the fact that earlier record of foreign manufacturers in Vietnam had been poor. It would be necessary to conduct further research to determine the reasons behind the failure. Another issue would be port facilities. Do the port facilities meet the needs and standards required? A third issue would be the skill of the labor force because the manufacturing process for the DIP requires expertise at each step. Demand for DIP could also be a potential problem because in general, developing countries tended to favor lower cost pipe alternatives due to restricted funding. 3. Recommendation Given the analysis, I would recommend Electrosteel to build a finishing line in Vietnam and utilize its' existing facilities in India to for the casting process. The DIP production line has excess capacity of 20,000 tonnes that can be sent to Vietnam as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The verb potirara means to drink which plays off the word Pater. (Polt, Christopher 233). The connection between potirara and Patera had an influence on how the audience had looked at King Pterelas, he was portrayed as a drunk (Polt, Christopher 233). Pterelas was not a king who merely drank, but one who drank continuously (Polt, Christopher 233). King Pterelas was not the first to use the Patera as a prop. On Corinthian coin of Augustus, Octavia is represented seated holding a scepter and a Patera (Frazer, J.G 23). It only makes sense to have a goddess pose with something just as valuable as she is. When the Patera was not being used as prop it was used as a form of sacrifice (Walker, J). The blood of the victim would go into the Patera has poured into the sea by the way of libation (Walker, J). Most religious people would abstain from eating or drinking from the Patera because of the sacrifices that were being done (Smith, William and Anthon, Charles 738). I am not going to go into the untalented Gyllenhaal sibling as I am about to go into why Ronan as Scarlet Witch would have been the worst casting decision in comicbook films since Arnold Schwarzenegger as Mr. Freeze and Uma Thurman as Poison Ivy. There have obviously been bad casting decisions in these types of films since but nothing as atrocious as Schwarzenegger and Thurman (bad actors by the way) and Ronan would have joined those two. These will not be just five reasons but also five exhibits of not just her inability as an actor but why she lacks certain necessities needed to play Scarlet Witch. The clip is from the movie Hanna. She lacks in this clip as with her other roles (the host is too easy to pick apart) the ability to convince. As an audience member, I am not convinced that she is not only this girl. Because of the diversity of the audiences, expanding diversity is necessary in the television industry. More and more shows begin to feature minority group; however, the representation of minorities still has issues of underrepresentation and stereotype because producers believe casting minorities can't make money. For example, Insecure by HBO is a great show to explore African–American women's life experience by mainly focusing on two black female characters. As lead roles, they have time and chances to be displayed comprehensively. Expanding the diversity of writer's room is also significant in combatting those challenges. Only the diversity we see on screen is not enough. Stories are told from writers' perspectives. The diverse make–up of team helps improve the diversity of the show. For example, if writers are all white or from the majority group, it is hard for them to write a show that truly represents minorities because they cannot understand the feeling of being minorities. Just like what Kenya Barris, the creator of Black–ish, said in class, voice is the most important thing for creators. Writers from the minority group create more convincing and sincerer stories because stories are from their own personal experiences. The reason why Black–ish is compelling is it was written from Kenya's own point of view. Compared to the majority group, minorities writers are easier to understand racial and ethnic issues. The writers' room of Black–ish was "far more diverse, in gender and in race, than most sitcom rooms" (Nussbaum). In the lecture, Kenya introduced that many staffs of Black–ish were women because he believed women are more likely to feel being outside as minorities. Relating the theme of the story to racial or ethnic issues also helps diversify minorities representations. Writers from the minority group can incorporate social issues or real politics into plots when they write. The episode of Hope of Black–ish is a successful example. • 41. Taking a Look at Hollow Slip Casting Introduction Slip casting is a technique used to mass–produce ceramic shapes that are not easily made on a wheel. To perform slip casting, a plaster mold is filled with a liquid clay casting slip. The water inside the casting slip is drawn to the plaster mold until a layer of solid clay is left deposited onto the mold walls. Once the right thickness is achieved, the excess casting slip is poured off and a hollow cast remains. Slip casting has been a large impression on society through its commercial applications. Because of its low cost and ease of mass–production, many everyday items have been casted using slip such as: figurines, doll faces, dishes, flowerpots, lamp bases, toilets[1]. The recycling ability of slip is another asset, since the loss ratio is an inevitable part to the slip casting procedure. Slip casting has many advantages. The slip casting process allows for the creation of high detailed duplicates. Slip casting opens the door to experiment with recipes that lack plasticity such as bone china, talc, or spodumene bodies[1]. The slip casting process is also a favored technique because it can produce very consistent results, results like equal density during formation. Traditional slips are mixtures of clays, non–plastic minerals, deflocculates, water, and occasionally flocculants. A deflocculant is an electrolyte enables fluidity with a minimal amount of water. • 51. False Casting "Cast the best actors not the best looks" I would add to this as High School teachers that grade level is not the best indication of maturity level. I have also learned that casting at the High School level can be challenging because the students time is often not their own. Homework, other activities and parental obligations can make casting a minefield of hazards waiting to blow up a production. I have often felt I have better than average judgement when it comes to casting, I have seen co–workers belabor the choices for days or even weeks, once over the whole summer! Advantage And Disadvantage Of Golden Jewellery Golden Jewellery: To manufacture golden jewellery the moulding technique that can be used is investment casting because investment casting is usually used to make small components with complex shapes. The process of investment casting is as follow: First of all the component to be made is moulded into wax by pouring the wax in a metal die to make the shape of the component. the metal core is replaced by a wax core then it is all dipped into liquefied ceramic several times making the mould become thicker and thicker after the ceramic cools down, the mould is heated to 730 degrees which causes the wax to melt out of the ceramic mould and also it makes the mould much more stronger. the reason for the mould becoming stronger is that the heat ... (Miranda) January 16, 1980, Puerto Rican parents, clinical psychologist Luz Towns Miranda and political consultant Luis A. Miranda Jr. brought Lin–Manuel Miranda into this world. In New York City, Miranda and his sister were raised by their Broadway loving parents. Both children were encouraged musically by their mother and father, taking piano lessons early in life and were exposed to a wide range of musical genres. New York life greatly influenced Miranda's love for hip hop and rap, and as he attended Hunter College's elementary and high schools, he performed in many student stage productions fueling his ambition to playwrite and ... Lin–Manuel Miranda is a fantastic example for a role model because of his hard work and dedication. Miranda is a master multi tasker, working on numerous songs and shows at once. As he performed the role Hamilton in his very own play, Hamilton, he also co–wrote the songs for Disney's upcoming motion picture Moana, along with handling the task of being a first–time father. In an interview, Miranda addresses the label 'genius' that he has been given due to `his Broadway musical Hamilton, "I'm not a . . . genius. I work my ass off. • 57. Race-Conscious Casting Analysis In the article review "Race–Conscious Casting ..." Lyra D. Monteiro claims that Lin–Manuel Miranda's Hamilton lacks the other parts of history that are important to African Americans. The examples in history that are important to African Americans are when the slaves were free or when they were finally given rights in America, and their involvement and development in the Harlem Renaissance. Lyra D. Monteiro criticizes Lin–Manuel Miranda for not addressing the problems such as slavery and the exclusion of the introduction of colored people in history. The color–bling casting that is presented throughout the play has caused people to notice the way certain roles were given and casted. An example of this is the "racialized musical forms that ... Miranda needs to credit or create an addition to the play of expressing black lives in America during that time. The untold truths in American history are a problem that need to be addressed. I agree with the statements that were spoken about in the review, there are people that believe that the events such as slavery should be in the play to show its importance. Monteiro's theory of that the events of slavery and the history of the African America population during the American Revolution should not be left out is extremely useful because it sheds light on the difficult problem of leaving out important history. The way that the black actors portray the founding fathers makes a mockery of the suffering of the blacks experienced from ones that enslaved them. I agree that this is wrong not having the black actors to portray their oppressors was done wrong instead they should have play the roles of African Americans of that era and the influences they had in America. Although the third party's power is limited, I do not think people should vote for the major party candidate they dislike less. Hence, if a voter agrees with the third party's values, they should cast the vote for that party. Moreover, supporting a third party can raise important concerns ignored by the two major parties. Secondly, it may give voters more choices amongst candidates. Finally, new parties may increase voter interest, since less than half of eligible voters participate in the voting booth. • 61. Non Traditional Casting One of the most prevalent racial issues in America today is the representation gap: in all realms of society, from politics to music, there is scarcity of minorities in the public eye. As there has been in other industries with a significant representation gap, Broadway is being pushed to diversify. This is for two primary reasons: a social one, increasing representation of minorities and therefore decreasing ignorance based racism in society, and an economic one, drawing in new, bigger audiences by making productions more relatable to a more people. This has resulted in in movements towards non–traditional and color–blind casting, or casting which disregards the traditional race unless it is essential to the script. However, this has faced ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For any theatrical production to successfully entertain, it relies on suspension of disbelief. Giovanni Frazzetto, in the peer reviewed journal Nature, writes, "In theater, suspension of disbelief hinges on the switch between two realities– the set and the cast of actors, and the places and characters they represent," (466). A show that intentionally creates a disconnect due to non–traditional casting could potentially confuse an audience so they become to distracted to enjoy the show and suspend disbelief. For example, a letter to the New York Times replying to the non–traditional casting of Phylicia Rashad, an African American actor, shows a potential response to non–traditional casting: "I am offended that Phylicia Rashad is playing a white woman's role in 'August: Osage County.' It doesn't make sense that she would have white siblings and children. As brilliant as Ms. Rashad is, the casting is off–kilter," (Fernandez). Producers, especially on Broadway where investments in a show number in the millions, will logically make production decisions based on potential profits (Bruinius). In an industry that traditionally has profited the most from Caucasian casts, it would take a secondary motive to diversify or a belief that diversification is profitable for producers to regularly use non–traditional ... • 63. Johannes Gutenberg's New Casting Johannes Gutenberg was born a modest merchant family in Germany. Where Johanne became goldsmith apprentice. He was later forced out of his home because of a craftsman revolt against wealthy nobles. He then moved to France, where he began his first printing experiments. Out of that Gutenberg, being familiar with book making he invented a small metal type. Because of his apprenticeship with Goldsmithing he developed a new casting system. He also made new metal alloys in correlation with his new casting system, it allowed him to make his small metal type easier. The first step in making a letter goes like this. First, you engrave a mirror image of the letter at the end of a metal rod. The next step was to take a small block of soft copper. Then you would take the metal rod with the desired letter and you would push it into the softened copper producing a pit in the shape of the letter. This then acts a mold for the small metal type letter. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This device is a block of wood with a slot finthe cast at the bottom. In the process in making a book the line setter would then combine letters into lines that make up an individual page. The result ends up being a mirror image of the copied page to be printed. The page form is then inked in with printer's ink. Which is most commonly a black ink made of a lampblack varnish and egg white. Printing could then start. Saurer received his BA at Hope College in sculpture and drawing, he continued to earn his MFA at Colorado State University in sculpture, and has been teaching art at St. Olaf College since 1995 (Saurer). His current exhibit is called Across Tender Land and was inspired by Saurer's surroundings while growing up (Shadow Casting). On piece, in particular, caught my eye. His Shadow Casting sculpture is around 75 pieces of welded steel and charred wood composed into different shapes mounted on a wall. When I first saw this piece, I found it interesting, but as I got closer, sensored lights came on and caused each piece to cast a shadow on the wall behind the sculpture. This piece of art reminded me the incense burner that has been discussed in our book (Stokstad, 4–13). I was reminded of the incense burner that was found in Prince Liu Sheng's tomb in China. Each piece was created to be viewed with the help of an other medium; smoke and light. Shadow Casting becomes much more aesthetically pleasing when the light casts the shadow, just as the incense burner becomes more aesthetically pleasing when it is viewed with smoke swirling around the mountain peaks. As I was looking at Shadow Casting, the first piece of art that came to mind was the incense burner because of the special way each is viewed. Your mind and your thoughts help guide the power out from your fingers, instead of naturally being kept inside. Advantages Of Machine Molding d) Machine molding In bench, floor and pit molding, the different molding operations are carried out manually by the molder, whereas in machine molding, various molding operations like sand ramming, rolling the mold over, withdrawing the pattern etc. are done by machines. Machine molding have several advantages over bench, floor and pit molding such as : Performing the same operations faster and more efficiently in a methodical precise manner. Producing identical and consistent castings. Producing castings of better quality at lower costs. The steps taken for casting in a squeeze machine are : In squeeze machine, the mould box with pattern and sand in it is placed on a fixed table. A flat plate or a rubber diaphragm is brought in contact with the upper surface of the loose sand and pressure is applied by a pneumatically operated piston. The squeezing action of the plate causes the sand particles to get packed tightly above and around the pattern. Squeezing is continued until the mould attains the desired density. In some machines, the squeeze plate may be stationary with the mould box moving upward. The density and hardness of the rammed sand at the bottom of the mould box is less when compared to its top portions and this can be considered as a disadvantage. Squeezer machines press the sand in the flask between the machine table and overhead plate. Greatest mold density is obtained at the side of the mold from which the pressure is applied. Because it is impossible to obtain uniform mold density by this method, squeezing machines are limited to molds only a few inches in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Saint Michael Casting Satan Into Hell One of the art pieces that I have chosen is called "Saint Michael Casting Satan into Hell" created by Francesco Picano after a design by Lorenzo Vaccarno. This piece was made in 1705 in Italy (Naples) during the times of Italy 's Renaissance movement. According to the article "Brief History of Italy" by Tim Lambert states that, "The 18th century was an age of enlightenment when the power of the church was curtailed"(sec 8). Which stating that during this time religion was highly focused in their works as a gateway for new ideas. This artwork is located at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art inside the Ahmanson building on the third floor, in the center of the exhibit under European art. The reason why I chose this piece is because this piece was interesting, how they represent the idea how it's represented in the stories that was focused in the work. As well as how it's place near the center so people can observe it from many different angles. This piece is a sculpture work that uses Polychromed wood and glass that were carved and molded into and it 's at least two feet tall. The next piece that I have chosen is called "Dancer's Headpiece in The Form of the Hindu Goddess Kali" created in India.
