How Night by Elie Wiesel Helped People Connect to the...
Words, the written language, a way to express feelings, emotions, experiences, and all that your
mind can recall from life or fantasy. Although many have heard of the terrors faced by the Jews in
countries that were under German control during World War II, few have stepped back and really
thought about the weight of what really happened to the people in the concentration camps. I believe
Night helped people connect to what really happened. This is an actual person's life, their story,
poured out onto pages that reflect not only facts but his deepest pains and fears. While recounting
his physical discomforts and many hardships, he also gives a viewpoint for our imaginations. The
best way I have been introduced to how it would even remotely ... Show more content on

This level of rich memory relates the reader to the experience, making it easier for that person to
remember the events being explained. As once said by George Santayana, "Those who cannot
remember the past are condemned to repeat it." With all the people who endured this first hand
gone, it is a rare and wondrous thing to behold an entire story from beginning to end by someone
who lived it first hand. Of course, the story not only tells us about Elie's tragedies, but also his
people as a whole, as well as, giving other short stories of how the calamity affected other
individuals around him. Such as, on page 103, when he is talking about the collective death cry on
the wagons, "Someone had just died. Others, close to death, imitated his cry. And their cries seemed
to come from beyond the grave....The death rattle of an entire convoy with the end approaching."
Such a dark and gruesome depiction of a wave of death sweeping over so many people around him.
This vivid description as well as many others help bring to light the diverse stories going on. Elie
was definitely not the only one being exposed to the contention. There were so many besides him
that suffered. This is one way, I believe, that the author meant to cite that. Another reason this
account of Elie's memories is to see the differences and similarities between various stories told by
many people is to have a

Designer Paper: Viktor and Rolf and Elie Saab
Viktor and Rolf are an inseparable duo in the fashion world and I was in awe the moment I saw their
work. I was planing on researching only one side of the duo for Haute couture but all the
information on them is in sync. When in Arnhem, The Netherlands in 1992 Viktor Horsting and Rolf
Snoeren graduated from ArtEZ institute and started their journey together(Heritage, 2015). After
graduating The duo worked hard to develop their first line that premiered in 1993 (Heritage, 2015).
The duo was so successful with their lines they were recognized and showcased their first Haute
couture show in 1998 (Heritage, 2015).

The dutch men have collaborated with Loreal to create a scent for the brand labeled Flowerbomb.
Then also partnered with H&M. The men have also created fashion eyewear and a shoe line. With
the build up of their brand the duo has recently announced some huge news.
Viktor and Rolf have recently announced that they will no longer continue in ready–to–wear and
strictly focus on haute couture. They state that ready–to–wear is "creatively restricting" (Socha,
M.,2015, February). The announcement happened after their most recent collection for fall/winter
2015/16. The show was breathtaking. Victor states that "The idea was wearable art. now that we are
concentrating on couture we wanted to emphasize very literally how we have artistic roots and how
fashion can be art in our universe."
Viktor and Rolf have been very successful at creating a name for themselves. This success has led to
interest in there haute couture lines. Because of the major breakthroughs and innovative collections
the men will continue to grow. Their strong point is art and dropping their ready to wear line will
allow them to continue to push the boundaries in fashion, inspire, and awe crowds. Viktor and Rolf
have established a name and keep living up to their title. They only continue to push and strive to
invent new concepts. I expect Viktor and Rolf to define new terms for fashion and art.
For my ready–to–wear designer I have chosen Elie Saab. I was drawn in by Saab's

With 100 boutiques and a $200 net worth, Elie Saab has proven that he has what it takes to be a part
of the fashion industry. He was born in Damour, Lebanon but he went to school in Paris. At only
eighteen years old, he started his own atelier with fifteen employees. An atelier is a designer's
studio. Over the years, he has dressed many important people, but his career really took off when he
dressed Halle Berry when she went to the Oscars in 2002.
Elie Saab's 2018 Spring Ready–to–Wear show was in Paris this year. There was a wide variety of
maxi and mini dresses. The fringes were able to play different roles to give the looks many different
feels. Some outfits felts as if they were ready for the beach or Coachella, while others were ready

Essay about The Painted Bird, Examining The Human Condition
In the book The Painted Bird Jerzy Kosinski covers many topics of the human character. Some of
the "human conditions" that Kosinski shows us in the book are lying, deceit, love, anger, prejudice,
superstition. In the Painted Bird Kosinski mainly focuses on the three "human conditions" hate,
prejudice (judgment), and love. He is clear in showing that humans sin a great deal, and feel hate,
prejudice, and love.
The beginning of the book gives us an idea of how the boy will be treated throughout the story
because of his race and how he is judged by others. One of the first adults we see the boy with when
he is separated from his parents is Marta. Marta is a very old woman who seems to not care for the
boy but fed him and took care of him ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The villagers believed in these superstitions and followed them religiously to keep themselves
"safe" from a gypsy such as the boy. As the boy continued his childhood he learns of more and more
horrific ways that people of his kind are treated by the Germans.
Within chapters 2 &3 the boy clearly learns how he is judged by the villagers and the value of his
life to them. After Marta's house burnt down the boy flees to a nearby village to find help, and
safety. Along the way he runs into other villagers who recognize the boy as a gypsy. As the boy sat
crying he was surrounded by the men and women who beat him while others watched. This is a very
sad time for the boy and a hard time because this is the first instance in which he is truly beaten in
the book, because of his race. We later learn the similarity between the painted bird and the boy. The
boy could be considered the painted bird because he is an outcast like the bird and treated
indifferently as the bird. As the boy travels throughout the story he is constantly humiliated and
beaten by many strangers and his caretakers humiliate him verbally. This teaches the boy to an
extent how others will treat him and what to expect from other villagers he might come across in his
life.
Throughout the story we encounter love consistently, in these encounters the boy learns how love
can affect a mob or a person to be jealous or have hate towards others. One of

Dehumanization Of Jewish People During The Holocaust

Dehumanization of Jewish People during the Holocaust Imagine being treated like cattle – living
one's life inside a fence, starved, killed for no reason. Would one hang on to their humanity, or
would they let go of their hope, their compassion, their faith? From 1939 to 1945, the Nazi German
military systematically kidnapped, tortured and killed millions of Jews in their twisted effort to
racially purify Germany. This genocide has come to be known as the Holocaust. During the
Holocaust, millions of Jews were mercilessly beaten, sadistically experimented upon, and killed for
pleasure. Through these three ways, the Jewish people were treated as subhuman; through these
three ways, the Jewish people began to believe it themselves.
Jewish people were subjected to terrible beatings, powerless at the hands of the German soldiers.
Evidence of this can be found in Night, Elie Wiesel 's memoir of his experience as a Jewish captive
of Nazi Germany. When his father asks to use a bathroom, Elie claims the Kapo "slapped [his]
father with such force that he fell down and then crawled back to his place on all fours" (Wiesel 39).
Obviously, such force exhibited by this Kapo was in humane and uncalled for; these acts, and this
attitude of violence and condescension taken by the German Kapos, contributed to the
dehumanization of the Jewish people. The spirit of anti–semitism that was so prevalent in Germany
during the Holocaust led to

Book Review of Night and Dawn
"Never shall I forget that night, the first night in the camp, which has turned my life into one long
night, seven times cursed and seven times sealed. Never shall I forget that smoke. Never shall I
forget the little wreaths of smoke beneath a silent blue sky. Never shall I forget those flames which
consumed my faith forever. Never shall I forget that nocturnal silence which deprived me, for all
eternity, of the desire to live. Never shall I forget those moments which murdered my God and my
soul and turned my dreams to dust. Never shall I forget these things, even if I am condemned to live
as long as God Himself. Never." (9)

Night opens in 1941 when Eliezer is 12 years old. At the time he is living in the Hungarian town of
Sighet. He is the only son in an Orthodox Jewish household, highly observant of Jewish tradition.
Eliezer keen interest in Judaism brings him to avidly study the Cabbala, a book based on Jewish
mysticism. His instruction is cut short, however, when his teacher, Moche the Beadle, is deported.
Moche returns after a few months with a horrifying tale. The Gestapo, or German secret police, took
charge of his train, led everybody into the woods, and systematically butchered them. Nobody
believes Moche and the small town quickly takes him for a lunatic. Yet, the reality of Moche's
experience becomes evident when a series of increasingly repressive measures are passed by the
Nazi's who occupy Hungary in the spring of 1944. The Jews of Eliezer's town are herded onto cattle
cars, commencing a nightmarish journey: after days and nights crammed into the car, exhausted and
near starvation, the passengers arrive at Birkenau, the gateway to the concentration camp,
Auschwitz.
At Aushwitz, he and his father are separated from his mother and sisters, whom they never see
again. They are then stripped, shaved, and disinfected while their captors treat them with almost
unimaginable cruelty. Eventually, they are marched to a work camp, Buna, where Eliezer is put to
work in an electrical–fittings factory. Under slave–labof conditions, severely malnourished and

This report complies the analysis of the new strategy for Saab Automobile following its acquisition
by Spyker Cars. The report attempts to assess this strategy and its potential success with an
evaluation and analysis of the industry, strategy, macro environment, competitive advantage and
sustainability of the competitive advantage. Various frameworks were applied in this report,
including Porter's 5 Forces, Strategic group analysis and VRIN analysis. Findings show, that Saab's
new strategy is based on some of the company's strongest resources, the Brand, technology and
expertise in design. This is particularly important as the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In terms of its operational performance Saab has managed to improve since the Spyker take–over
(in early 2010). The number of cars sold increased by 15% from 2009 to 2010 while the number of
cars produced improved by 53% in the same time. Therefore Saab was able to re–stock the
inventories of dealers that were running low, especially in the US (Saab, Saab Automobile sees,
2011). This shows that the company is on the way to a viable company and has the potential to
expand further in the upcoming years. However, an issue of up–most importance is the dealing with
the large debt obligations that Saab has accumulated. The figure of net working capital of € –220
million illustrates the severity of the financial situation and the cost of new capital, meaning it will
be very difficult and costly for Saab to obtain further funds which are needed to implement their
strategic decisions (Spyker cars N.V., 2011) .

Review Of ' The Summer Of 2010 ' By Elie Saab Essay
In the summer of 2010, Elie Saab was confronted with many challenging decisions for the company,
during his meeting with company manager director Churchi Cavalcanti. The main topic of
discussion during this meeting was "to grow the brand in new and existing markets while
maintaining the brand's exclusivity and position as one of the few remaining established brands in
Haute couture." (Kayyal & Shuayto, 2012) The company's success in the last five years has shown a
large growth in the ready–to–wear (RTW) product line. As stated in the case, "While revenues have
been growing rapidly, 2007 showed a 27 percent growth compared to 2006 and 2008 grew by a
staggering 49 per cent compared to the previous year. "Operating expenses also decreased during
the same time period." (Kayyal & Shuayto, 2012) The company is on the right track and looking to
expand and maintain their momentum. On the other hand, management has been struggling with
factors such as, which partners they should go into business with and what new markets they should
penetrate to create the maximal level of growth. In this analysis, I will analyze the current position
of the company both analytically and quantitatively. I will use this knowledge to make the most
logical decision for the future of this company. Elie Saab was born in Beriut, Lebanon in 1964 and
at a very young age he started experimenting with material and drawing sketches for his sisters. At

The Holocaust 's Night By Elie Wiesel
It caused a lack of trust. It separated friends. It brought families closer. The Holocaust forced family
members to hold on to each other and trust each other. "In 1933, the Jewish population of Europe
stood at over nine million [...] By 1945, the Germans and their collaborators killed nearly two out of
every three European Jews as part of the 'Final Solution,' the Nazi policy to murder the Jews of
Europe" (Introduction to the Holocaust). Night is a memoir written by Elie Wiesel, a Holocaust
survivor. Elie Wiesel's Night describes that father and son relationships, and loyalty changes through
acts of inhumanity.
Elie Wiesel did not feel very connected to his father in the beginning of the memoir. In 1941, at the
age of thirteen, Elie Wiesel was immensely religious and studied Talmud every day. He asked his
father if he could find someone who would mentor him in his studies of Kabbalah. Elie's father
responded to him by saying, "You are too young for that. Maimonides tells us that one must be
thirty before venturing into the world of mysticism, a world fraught with peril. First you must study
the basic subjects, those you are able to comprehend" (Wiesel 4). Elie wanted to be a Kabbalist, but
his father did not even want him to study Kabbalah. Elie's father thought, according to Maimonides,
that he was too young to learn about Kabbalah and disapproved of his choice to study Talmud. Elie's
father was not very caring, even towards his own family. He is described as:

How Atticus Finch and Elie Wiesel Demonstrate Heoric...
According to Umberto Eco, "The real hero is always a hero by mistake...." In other words, one
doesn't act heroic as a lifestyle, but by surprise when the time comes to do so. To be heroic means to
put others before you in a desperate time of someone else's despair. Two works of literature that
agree with the critical lens are the novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, written by Harper Lee and the
memoir, Night, by Elie Wiesel. Atticus Finch and Elie Wiesel both demonstrate heroic actions
unintentionally. Atticus Finch from, To Kill a Mockingbird, is characterized as a wise man that is an
exceptional father to his children and always teaches them the right perspective about life and the
people around them. He was appointed to the lawyer for a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Atticus was like a wise owl, he continuously strived to teach his children the way he taught himself
how to deal with daily conflicts in life. When the father of the girl who was raped spit in Atticus'
face, he said that he would take getting spit in the face as many times as it saves the girl from
getting beaten by her father. Another scenario, is that when men rioted at the jail the night before
they moved Tom, he said although they were mad they were still good people. Atticus symbolized a
hero; he always wanted to give everyone else the benefit of the doubt. He always looked for the
good in everything.
Elie Wiesel was the protagonist of the memoir Night who overcomes many obstacles while in the
Holocaust. Elie was fifteen when he was put in concentration camps. He was separated from his
mother and sisters forever; they were immediately sent to the crematoriums. All Elie had was his
father who never showed much emotion or affection. Elie lied about his age and said he was older
so he could stay with his father as he was advised to by a stranger who was also in the Holocaust.
Elie was worked, almost to death, for one year. He also maintained to keep with his father and keep
him motivated and hopeful till the very end. Throughout the year he watched his father be beaten,
stripped down, and nearly dead. Elie had also been beaten; he had been especially victimized by a

Essay Symbolism in Elie Wiesel's Night
Symbolism in Night by Brooke Justus
Elie Wiesel uses several types of figurative language in Night. In his novel, Elie's use of symbolism
is most important in helping the reader understand the horrors of his experience during the
Holocaust. The first and most prevalent example of symbolism in the book is the title itself. By
calling the novel "Night" it is apparent to the reader that the Holocaust was a dark experience, full of
terror and suffering. The entire novel is filled with "last nights". Elie experiences the last night
withEl his father, the last night in Buna, the last night in the ghetto, and several others throughout
the book. The term "night" also references to a life without a God. Wiesel often says that God does

The first time fire appears in the book is when Madame Schächter screams in terror, claiming that
she can see fire from the train. It later becomes known that she received a vision of the horrors that
were coming to them in the near future. Fire is also a symbol of cruelty because of its role in the
death of millions in the crematoria and in fire pits. Elie witnesses the burning of babies in the
beginning of the novel, which is the first time Elie truly understands the severity of the Nazi power.
"Never shall I forget that smoke. Never shall I forget the small faces of the children whose bodies I
saw transformed into smoke under a silent sky," (Wiesel 34). Fire can also be seen as a symbol of
Elie's loss of his faith in his God and in the Jewish religion. In Judaism, tradition says that the evil
and wicked will be condemned to Gehenna and suffer a fiery punishment. However, Elie's
experiences reverse what he was taught by his faith. The innocent were murdered in the
crematorium by the evil. This shows how Elie's faith was strongly questioned during the Holocaust
due to the experiences and how his concept of religion was changed dramatically. "Never shall I
forget the nocturnal silence that deprived me for all eternity of the desire to live. Never shall I forget
those moments that murdered my God and my soul and turned my dreams to ashes." Corpses are
also a symbol in Night. Elie often refers to the

The New Jim Crow by Michelle Alexander Essay
As Elie Wiesel once stated, "I swore never to be silent whenever and wherever human beings endure
suffering and humiliation. We must always take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the
victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented" ("Elie Wiesel Quote"). Michelle
Alexander's book The New Jim Crow, which discusses criminal justice and its role in mass
incarceration, promotes a similar idea regarding silence when America's racial caste system needs to
be ended; however, Alexander promotes times when silence would actually be better for "the
tormented." The role of silence and lack of silence in the criminal justice system both contribute to
wrongly accused individuals and growing populations behind bars.

In this case, speaking up should not be feared; those under surveillance need to render the courage
to stand up and tell police officers that they cannot unreasonably search belongings because these
actions lead to unprovoked arrests and loss of fourth amendment rights.
Following through the process of the criminal justice system, after being stopped by police officers,
many individuals remain innocent of committing any crime and walk away from the situation
without further questions asked. However, at this point, silence is not the answer. Alexander notes
regarding the unreasonable searches, "Hardly anyone files a complaint, because the last thing most
people want to do after experiencing a frightening and intrusive encounter with the police is show
up at the police station where the officer works and attract more attention to themselves" (Alexander
69). Therefore, these countless searches remain unheard of by many because the innocent are too
scared to come forward and tell their stories. Perhaps if the silence is broken, word of mouth would
prevent others from being unlawfully searched and arrested based on no suspicion. This is not the
case though; nevertheless, it is known that "the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) trains police to
conduct utterly unreasonable and discriminatory stops and searches" (Alexander 70). The use of
such searches and methods to determine whom

Loss of Faith and Religion in Ellie Wiesel’s Night
The Holocaust survivor Abel Herzberg has said, " There were not six million Jews murdered; there
was on murder, six million times." The Holocaust is one of the most horrific events in the history of
mankind, consisting of the genocide of Jews, homosexuals, gypsies, mentally handicapped and
many others during World War 2. Adolf Hitler was the leader of Nazi Germany, and his army of
Nazis and SS troops carried out the terrible proceedings of the Holocaust. Elie Wiesel is a Jewish
survivor of the Nazi death camps, and suffers a relentless "night" of terror and torture in which
humans were treated as animals. Wiesel discovers the "Kingdom of Night" (118), in which the

Wiesel claims that his faith is destroyed and denies the existence of God, but also refers to God in
the last line. It is clear that Wiesel is struggling with his faith in God. When Wiesel sees the
crematory and smells the horrible stench of human flesh he revolts against his faith. This is because
he does not believe that if there is a god, such terrible things could happen. He is in disbelief and
falters with his religion, "The Almighty, the eternal and terrible Master of the Universe, choose to be
silent" (33). Wiesel starts to resent the God that he once was fond of and rebels against his beliefs,
"And in spite of myself, a payer formed inside me, a prayer to this god in whom I no longer
believed" (91). Wiesel falters back to believing in God to try to control himself, and keep sane. The
second example of Wiesel losing his faith is when he arrived at Auschwitz. A prisoner informs him
and his dad that they are heading to the crematory, and Wiesel's father recites the Kaddish, the

People Hating People throughout History
"People who put principles before people are people who hate people. They don't much care about
how well it works, just about how right it is ... they may even like it better if it inflicts enough pain"
(John Barnes). People do not think too much of how their actions affect other human beings. They
think making others feel less than who they are is completely ok, even with the level of National
Security. It is not ok whatsoever. Instead of dehumanizing people and making them feel worthless
and like animals National Security, and other humans, should treat people equally and not like
objects, make them feel comfortable and not take away their rights because we are all human and all
equal. Although people feel as though they can just take away a person's rights and identity because
they feel they are more superior and important, they have no right to. "The three "veterans," with
needles in their hands, engraved a number on our left arms. I became A7713. After that I had no
other name."(Wiesel 39). Wiesel is talking about how his identity was just taken away from him.
And how it was so easy to just become a number, and nothing but a number, so quickly. He had no
other identity other than the one given to him when his original name was taken away from him. As
a result, Mr. Wiesel and many other humans have and are being stripped of their identity and
becoming, or have become, nothing but a number and an object. "'There are eighty of you in this
wagon,' added the German officer.

The Painted Bird by Jerzy Kosinski
In the Painted Bird, the parent's of a young, six–year–old boy made the decision to send their son to
a small town in Poland in order to hide him from the Nazis. During the novel the boy is forced to
flee from many different situations he is forced into due to death and oppression. Through his
journey, this young boy was abused and unnoticed, eventually turning him into a totally different
person. This boy is an outlier in every town he comes into contact with because of his appearance
(Kosinki, 1). The locals of the towns that he comes into contact with during his journey see him as a
gypsy or Jew. During this time people were persecuted if they were not blonde hair, blue–eyed, and
fair skinned. The Painted Bird is a novel that speaks of the troubles that these people went through
just because they were different. The narrative helps show that diversity is a good thing and is
needed for a society to function properly. The impact this war and violence had on the society
caused people to be shameful of humanity because of the unlimited cruelty that took place during
this time period. The unlimited cruelty that was placed upon the people in Eastern Europe showed
that these people were seen as smaller, powerless human beings. For example, in the first chapter of
the novel there is a scene in which "a powerful bird with a sharp hooked beak pinned the pigeon to
the ground and struck at him" (Kosinki, 6). This symbolizes all the victims of the Holocaust. The

In the novel Night, Elie Wiesel had a strong belief in God. When Elie and his family were sent off to

Elie had witnessed children his age and adults being tortured, beaten, and killed. In the novel, Elie

to understand the meaning of why God would want humans to treat other humans in this manner.
For example, "When the narrator, Eliezer, sees a lorry filled with children who are dumped into a

could not believe it. How could it be possible for them to burn people, children, and for the world to

nightmare; he could not get out of. He is in a state of shock that he cannot believe this is happening.

Night
The novel "Night" is a vivid representation of a man's loss of faith from the beginning to the end of
the catastrophic era in which this book takes place. As a young boy Elie's inquisitive mind directed
him to the synagogue where he would study the Kabbalah's revelations and mysteries. Here is where
"Moishe the beadle," a friend to Elie, would sit with him in the synagogue and they would talk for
hours about the intriguing secrets of Jewish mysticism. One important piece of advice that Moishe
told Elie was, "There are a thousand and one gates allowing entry into the orchard of the mystical
truth." This simply meant he would need to pursue these answers on his own. However, Elie
believed Moishe would help him bind his questions and answers as well, into one. These meetings
were interrupted when Moishe was extracted from the Sighet where he experienced malice.
He then returned to Sighet after being left for dead and managing to escape from the Gestapo.
Moishe witnessed atrocious behavior that affected him profoundly. When he returned, he was not
the same person, the vitality in his eyes had perished. He told everyone what he had seen, but no one
would pay attention to his words. Even after hearing Moishe's words of warning they labeled him
"mad." Not convinced of the stories Moishe spoke of, their normal lives kept on. This indicates that
the Jews refused to acknowledge what fate had laid ahead.

The Collapse Of Compassion Theory
The world of today has been a witness to countless menacing wars, violence, and tragedies, but the
amount of sympathy and compassion the people feel towards it has significantly decreased. In fact,
it is believed by many that capacity of compassion is limited and so the lack of consideration for
other's suffering is part of human nature. Psychologists such as C. Daryl Cameron and Keith Payne
have developed the collapse of compassion theory, described in the article, "How to Increase Your
Compassion Bandwidth," that suggests that people are growing to become indifferent and less
empathetic towards major moments in history of inhumane behavior. The apathetic attitude
individuals have towards tragedies is not a phenomenon only seen in the recent years, but in fact can
be traced to about seventy years ago, in the midst of the Holocaust. The Holocaust was carried out
by Adolf Hitler and his Nazi reign, between 1933 and 1945, which brought upon the world a
massive genocide that almost killed the entire Jewish population of Europe. For nearly twelve years,
Jewish people were isolated from society with discriminative laws, thrown into crowded and
unsanitary ghettos, and then shipped into concentration camps where they met their deaths. The
Jews were endlessly slaughtered in a cruel manner, but yet hardly any people cried out for its
injustice. The behavior of the Nazis was condoned by most of the German people who supported its
reign and even the prisoners of the death camps began

The Fashion Of Elie Saab ( Es )
Introduction
In a world which seems to be shrinking continuously due to the emergence of globalization,
individuals seek new ways to differentiate themselves from those in their societies either by music,
art and most of all fashion. Elie Saab(ES), a Lebanese fashion house established in Beirut has found
a way to cater to the many cravings of individuals by creating and selling luxury fashion to the elites
of the world.
Beirut born owner and chairman Elie Saab first picked up an interest in fashion at the tender age of
nine, making dresses for his sisters using his mother's tablecloths as fabric. In 2010, Saab's
workforce had grown from 10 employees in his first workshop in Beirut to about 150 working in
different locations such as Paris and London. ES was well known for its Haute Couture works
which are exclusive, one of a kind evening dresses and wedding gowns.
In a bid to grow the brand, Saab sought to diversify its portfolio by partnering with various ventures
which signified and embodied the luxury lifestyle on which it had built its brand upon. ES signed
partnership contracts with various companies for the construction of luxury Yachts, exclusive hotels
and luxury fragrances. Notwithstanding the company's many partnerships and ventures, ES's core
business was fashion which had been its bread and butter. ES began primarily with Haute Couture
which is a fancy name for specially made garments using high quality materials to suit the needs of
the customer, these dresses

Essay on 3-D Diorama Of the Novel Night by Eli Wiesel
This 3–D diorama illustrates a significant scene in the novel Night. This story originated during the
First World War in Sighet, Hungary. The Nazis were in power and they wanted to exterminate the
Jewish population; this was referred to as the Holocaust. The religious town of Sighet has not been
raided yet, so they're expecting for the best. The main characters are Elizer and his father. Sadly, the
Nazis reach Sighet and gather the Jews. They could only bring what they could carry, so homes and
other valuables were left alone. In this scene, the Jewish population of the small town are being
deported to Auschwitz. Auschwitz was the first concentration camp they were sent to, so this was
going to have a huge impact on their lives. In the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The significant colors used are red and black within the scene. There are ruthless officers in the
camp covered with blood from the assassinated victims. There is a huge crematorium where people
would be burned after being killed. There is a red light inside to symbolize blood, screams and
death. There are gray ashes rising from the crematorium and these are the only remains of the dead.
The cattle car has just reached the Auschwitz station and the officers are preparing for a new batch
of Jews. This scene shows the transition between the present and future. Furthermore, it illustrates
what the victims of the Holocaust had to lose and endure for several years during the Great War.
This scene (selection 2) illustrates an important twist in the beginning of the novel
I have incorporated many presentation techniques to further enhance my diorama. For example, my
presentation uses many literary devices such as mood, juxtapositions, allusions, imagery and
symbols. On the stage, there are two different scenes. One half illustrates Sighet and the other
illustrates the Auschwitz station. Firstly, the outside of my shoebox contains two dominant colors:
black and white. On one side, it is completely black on the exterior. Black is commonly associated
with power, death, struggles and many other negative aspects. This technique better illustrates the
literary term imagery. The Nazis were in power and they violently killed the

author. The comparisons are very visible once you learn about Elie Wiesel's life. Elie Wiesel was
born on September28,1928 in the town of Hungary. Wiesel went through a lot of hard times as a
youngster. In 1944, Wiesel was deported by the nazis and taken to the concentration camps. His
family was sent to the town of Auschwitz. The father, mother, and sister of Wiesel died in the

Eventually Wiesel went on to win an Nobel Peace Prize. The book Dawn concerns about the
experiences of a survivor just after the World War who joins the Jewish Underground efforts to form
an independent Israeli state. This novel is closely related to the one "Night". The Novel is about a
character named Elisha who like Wiesel's life has to live through the concentration camps as a
youngster growing up. Elisha was a young Israeli freedom fighter whose assignment was to kill the
officer in reprisal for Britain's execution of a Jewish prisoner. She tried to form a free Israeli state,
because she was tired of all of the killings going on in the concentration camps and so forth. She
like many other Jews would have felt so much more comftorable with peace then all the deaths that
were taking place. Throughout the book her voyage is to kill the man that killed a fellow Jewish
prisoner for no apparent reason. This book forwards attention to the life of a young Israeli who
struggles through the Holocaust and wants to maintain peace throughout Israel . She is a "diamond
in the rough" one could say. Her strong hope was not the same among her fellow Israeli's. The future
looked dim and prospects were low. She had to convince the other and make them all strong in their
conviction that their people would survive, and would get through this horrible time. As a freedom
fighter her main goal was to kill the officer who was responsible for the execution of Jewish

Genocides Past and Present Essay
Genocides Past and Present Genocide, a dire event, has been recurring time and time again
throughout history. In the past, there was the Holocaust, where Hitler exterminated over six million
Jews based on his anti–semitic views. Elie Wiesel, a Jewish author, has become a very influential
man in educating the world of the true events of the Holocaust due to his involvement in the
disaster. Presently, a genocide is occurring in the Darfur region of southern Sudan, in which
according to Cheryl Goldmark, "a systematic slaughter of non–Arab residents at the the hands of
Arab militiamen called Janjaweed" has been taking place since 2003. (1) Not only is genocide a

Adolf Hitler, and his Nazi Party that followed him, began persecuting Jews in 1933. Adolf Hitler,
the mastermind behind the Holocaust, was an anti–semitic man who believed in a superior Arian
German race. Hitler's rise to power was just the beginning of a series of events that almost led to the
complete annihilation of many countries' Jewish population. First, laws that limited the Jew's rights
were applied. Next, their valuables were taken from their possession, and then the innocent people
were forced into cramped ghettos lined with barbwire. According to Sally Marks, "the term
holocaust is derived from the Greek language and literally means 'a sacrifice totally consumed by
fire'." (1) Living up to its definition, during the Holocaust many Jews were burned in the fiery
mouths of the crematoriums. The impact of the segregational laws as well as being forced into
ghettos were only the beginning of the inhumane crimes the Jews were subjected to during the
Holocaust. Concentration camps were horrible places filled with starvation, dangerous work, and
death. After being taken out of the ghettos Jews were most often carted like caged animals to the
camps. There, if not immediately sentenced to death during selection, the people were stripped of
their identity and thrown into a situation no human deserves to be in. Many Jews either lost their
faith or used it as a tool for survival. Many asked themselves, is there a god, or is this a test of faith?

Literature's Unique Talent: The Bluest Eye, Night, Flowers...
Literature functions as a unique venue to communicate social injustices to society by letting the
readers experience the bias treatment through words and how the characters felt. This makes the
readers connect and think more deeply about the injustices that are happening in the world today. In
The Bluest Eye, by Toni Morrison, Night, written by Elie Wiesel, and Flowers for Algernon, by
Daniel Keyes, each author uses literary devices such as tone, symbolism, and character to inform
society of its injustices. However, each writer approaches the theme of social injustices differently
with their unique descriptions and styles. On the other hand, the authors also use imagery and theme

Prettier people are more praised than average people. This makes the ordinary people constantly
doubt themselves and lower their self–confidence. Pecola's character can be categorize as one of
those average people, or as she refers to herself, one of the "ugly people." Morrison creates her
character with an abusive past, displaying multiple injustices through her. For example, the abuse
that she suffers from society was due to her self–belief that she was ugly, so instead of defending
herself, she puts up with the social abuse. The author portrays the idea of being accepted by society
through whatever means will only destroy oneself in the end, as stated on page 158, "The damage
done was total." In Night, by Elie Wiesel, the author uses a frustrated tone to show how the injustice
of the Holocaust impacted Eliezer. On page 67, Eliezer expresses his frustration towards God:
"Why, but why should I bless Him? In every fiber, I rebelled. Because He had had thousands of
children burned in his pits? Because He kept six crematories working night and day, on Sundays and
feast days? Because on His great might, He had created Auschwitz, Birkenau, Buna, and so many

who chose us among all nations to be tortured day and night, to watch as our fathers, our mother,

Driven to Their Death
Driven to Their Death "I swore never to be silent whenever and wherever human beings endure
suffering and humiliation. We must take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim.
Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented." Elie Wiesel once said. Nazis tormented the
Jews all throughout the Holocaust just because they didn't like their race. There have been multiple
movies, books, and graphic novels about the holocaust showing all the traumatic deaths, and other
horrifying events that took place. The graphic novel Maus written by Art Spiegelman shows the
survival story of a man named Vladek, and written by his son Artie. Vladek was a true survivor,
whether it was purely luck or not, but he also cared about other people who were there with him. In
the movie Schindler's List directed by Steven Spielberg this shows the story about the holocaust and
how one man named Schindler saved many men, women, and families. In both stories, there are
multiple motifs such as trains, lists, and death. Both stories show the same motifs in very similar
ways. One way the motifs are the same is that the trains represent their journey to their own death.
In Maus, there are multiple pictures of trains throughout the novel. Trains were used for
transportation and ultimately to send Jews to concentration camps. One of the most important trains
was the one that the Spiegelman's were on when they thought they were going to Hungary, but they
ended up being at Auschwitz.

religion, and everything else that defines a group of people as different from another group of

It mostly started when Hitler gained complete control over Germany. He began passing his

Being able to share this key belief with his father allows their relationship to continue to grow
stronger. As their time in the concentration camp continues, the conditions there worsen. The
prisoners are soon forced into a treacherous forty–two mile run in the icy cold, which makes them
struggle between life the death. During this march, one thing keeps Wiesel's will to live alive and
that is his father. This shows one of Wiesel's weakest moments, where he contemplates giving up
numerous times. Exhaustion takes over his body, and the only thing he can think about is the
pleasures that death would bring him. Wiesel's mind overpowers him and he reflects, "Death
wrapped itself around me till I was stifled. It stuck to me. I felt that I could touch it. The idea of
dying, of no longer being, began to fascinate me" (82). However, his father needs him, and that is
truly what drives him to keep pushing until the end. They stay alive for each other, which shows
how much they really care about the other. While Wiesel rests in the shed after the run, Rabbi
Eliahou, a very well–liked man, comes in looking for his son. He and his son have been sticking
together for three years. Wiesel expresses that he has not seen him, without realizing that this is

Adaption Means Survival in Elie Wiesel's "Night" and...
Charles Darwin, the famous evolutionist, once wrote: "In the struggle for survival, the fittest win out
at the expense of their rivals because they succeed in adapting themselves best to their
environment." It was this message that Elie Wiesel learned during his captivity in World War II and
incorporated into his novel, 'Night'. It was also this message that William Golding tried to express
through the scenario of his magnum opus, 'Lord of the Flies'. Though, in both their novels, there was
another message, an idea first realized by the great psychologist and philosopher Sigmund Freud.
The idea was that when man is taken away from civilization, his instincts (the id) will overpower his

The first of the 2 novels is Night, in this novel; it is often shown through–out the book that in times
of need, people are willing to turn on one another. By seeing how Eliezer's views about his father
changed in the novel, it is proven that Eliezer began to focus more on surviving and desires than
some of the important things like family thus proving that the evil change that Eliezer went was in
fact nothing more than him falling back onto his more primitive beliefs of focusing on living by
instinct and desire. The first of the two quotes to prove that is here: "He slapped my father with such
force that he fell down and then crawled back to his place on all fours. I stood petrified. What had
happened to me? My father had just been struck, in front of me, and I had not even blinked. I had
watched and kept silent. Only yesterday, I would have dug my nails into this criminal's flesh. Had I
changed so much?"(Wiesel 39) This quote is from Eliezer's first moments in Auschwitz. And from
this quote, we know that it also marks the beginning of Eliezer's steadily decreasing lack of
sympathy for others for he had already began his descent to using his primitive instincts. This quote
though, is extremely enlightening when compared to the thesis. This would be because this quote
illustrates the fact that Eliezer

Holocaust Survivor, Elie Wiesel's Strategies in The Perils...
Elie Wiesel–a Holocaust survivor and award–winning human rights activist–passionately gave his
speech, "The Perils of Indifference," while in the White House on April 12, 1999. The speech was
part of the Millennium Lecture series, which was hosted by President Bill Clinton and his wife. Mrs.
Hilary Clinton introduced Elie as well, saying: "It was more than a year ago that I asked Elie if he
would be willing to participate in these Millennium Lectures...I never could have imagined that
when the time finally came for him to stand in this spot and to reflect on the past century and the
future to come, that we would be seeing children in Kosovo crowded into trains, separated from
families, separated from their homes, robbed of their childhoods, their memories, their humanity."
Indeed, the events in Kosovo created an effective environment that Wiesel could use to tell the
audience about some of his experiences during the Holocaust and to communicate why humanity
must fight against the evil of indifference. Wiesel knows about that evil firsthand. How could he not
with his experiences in the Holocaust? This experience is a large factor in his relationship with the
issue, and he references it subtly several times, as he frequently uses the words "we" and "us" when
talking about those who have experienced the worst effects of indifference. The reason he felt such a
need to communicate why humanity should despise indifference is, in fact, because it so directly
affected him. The

Glam girl meets street on Elie Saab's 2016 RTW collection Elie Saab is best known for his romantic
evening wear that exudes femininity. The Lebanese designer has a distinct vision of incorporating
the soft and delicate aura of a woman through the abundance of lace, embroideries and
embellishments in his clothes. Understanding the common taste that attracts the attention of even
the rich and famous of society, Elie Saab has dressed some of the world's most glamorous ladies
including Beyonce, Jennifer Lopez, Emma Watson, Gwyneth Paltrow among others. Throw a big
red carpet event and you'll definitely see one or two A–listers wearing his creations. The beauty of
his couture is popular in a sense that no red carpet moment will be complete without the appearance
of one of his gowns. The designer might be known for his formal wear, but he clearly sent a
message that 2016 is the year when his creations can also be worn in broad daylight. ... Show more

Cultivating The Gardens : Candide And Night
Chris Skowron
Professor Dwan Simmons
English 2110
November 26th, 2014
Cultivating the gardens: Candide and Night The Holocaust was a genocide in which approximately
six million Jews were killed by the Nazi regime under the command of Adolf Hitler. While many
did perish during the holocaust, some survived to tell the haunting tales of what they endured. One
of which was a young Romanian man named Elie Wiesel, a Jewish–American professor and
political activist. ("The Elie Wiesel Foundation for Humanity") In 1940, Romania lost the town of
Sighet to Hungary following the Second Vienna Award. ("The Second Vienna Award and the
Hungarian–Romanian Relations 1940–1944") Later, in the year 1944, Wiesel, his family, and the
rest of the town were placed in one of the two ghettos in Sighet. (Night, page 11) Wiesel and his
family lived in the larger of the two, on Serpent Street and on May 6, 1944, the Hungarian
authorities allowed the German army to deport the Jewish community in Sighet to Auschwitz–
Birkenau. While at Auschwitz, his inmate number, "A–7713", was tattooed onto his left arm. (Night,
page 42) Wiesel was separated from his mother and three sisters, but was able to stay with his dad at
the same camp. The two of them were sent to Buna, an attached work camp and a subcamp of
Auschwitz III–Monowitz. Elie remained with his father for more than eight months as they were
forced to work under appalling conditions and shuffled among three concentration camps in the
closing days of

The Trial of God by Elie Wiesel
The Trial of God is a play that was written by Elie Wiesel. The play was first published in 1979. The
play was set in a feudal European settlement where three travelling Jewish artistes put God on trial
to answer for His quietness during a pogrom. It is a powerful drama with historical and especially
post–Shoah concerns surrounding faith. While imprisoned in Auschwitz, Elie Wiesel witnessed a
trial. It was not unusual for prisoners to witness trials, this one would be different and very unusual.
It was unusual because of the defendant. God was on trial. God was tried for turning his back and
ignoring the Jewish people in their ultimate hour of need. God was tried in absentia. I mean how
you can put God on the witness stand is a question all in itself. There was one problem, no one was
willing to take on the role of God's attorney. God was eventually found guilty. After the verdict was
announced, the "court" prayed. How is that for an oxymoron? But this incident, which served as the
inspiration for The Trial of God, is part of the long Jewish tradition of arguing with God. Elie
Wiesel was born in 1928 in Transylvania, which is now Romania. He and his family were deported
by the Nazi's in 1943 to the most notorious concentration camp of all time, Auschwitz. He regained
his freedom in 1945 when the camp he was at, he was transferred to Buchenwald with his father,
was liberated by the allies. After the war, Elie studied writing and became a journalist in Paris. It
was

How Night By Elie Wiesel Helped People Connect To The...

  • 1. How Night by Elie Wiesel Helped People Connect to the... Words, the written language, a way to express feelings, emotions, experiences, and all that your mind can recall from life or fantasy. Although many have heard of the terrors faced by the Jews in countries that were under German control during World War II, few have stepped back and really thought about the weight of what really happened to the people in the concentration camps. I believe Night helped people connect to what really happened. This is an actual person's life, their story, poured out onto pages that reflect not only facts but his deepest pains and fears. While recounting his physical discomforts and many hardships, he also gives a viewpoint for our imaginations. The best way I have been introduced to how it would even remotely ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This level of rich memory relates the reader to the experience, making it easier for that person to remember the events being explained. As once said by George Santayana, "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it." With all the people who endured this first hand gone, it is a rare and wondrous thing to behold an entire story from beginning to end by someone who lived it first hand. Of course, the story not only tells us about Elie's tragedies, but also his people as a whole, as well as, giving other short stories of how the calamity affected other individuals around him. Such as, on page 103, when he is talking about the collective death cry on the wagons, "Someone had just died. Others, close to death, imitated his cry. And their cries seemed to come from beyond the grave....The death rattle of an entire convoy with the end approaching." Such a dark and gruesome depiction of a wave of death sweeping over so many people around him. This vivid description as well as many others help bring to light the diverse stories going on. Elie was definitely not the only one being exposed to the contention. There were so many besides him that suffered. This is one way, I believe, that the author meant to cite that. Another reason this account of Elie's memories is to see the differences and similarities between various stories told by many people is to have a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

MacGillivray AMD 141 September 24, 2015 Designer Paper: Viktor and Rolf and Elie Saab Viktor and Rolf are an inseparable duo in the fashion world and I was in awe the moment I saw their work. I was planing on researching only one side of the duo for Haute couture but all the information on them is in sync. When in Arnhem, The Netherlands in 1992 Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren graduated from ArtEZ institute and started their journey together(Heritage, 2015). After graduating The duo worked hard to develop their first line that premiered in 1993 (Heritage, 2015). The duo was so successful with their lines they were recognized and showcased their first Haute couture show in 1998 (Heritage, 2015). People are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The dutch men have collaborated with Loreal to create a scent for the brand labeled Flowerbomb. Then also partnered with H&M. The men have also created fashion eyewear and a shoe line. With the build up of their brand the duo has recently announced some huge news. Viktor and Rolf have recently announced that they will no longer continue in ready–to–wear and strictly focus on haute couture. They state that ready–to–wear is "creatively restricting" (Socha, M.,2015, February). The announcement happened after their most recent collection for fall/winter 2015/16. The show was breathtaking. Victor states that "The idea was wearable art. now that we are concentrating on couture we wanted to emphasize very literally how we have artistic roots and how fashion can be art in our universe." Viktor and Rolf have been very successful at creating a name for themselves. This success has led to interest in there haute couture lines. Because of the major breakthroughs and innovative collections the men will continue to grow. Their strong point is art and dropping their ready to wear line will allow them to continue to push the boundaries in fashion, inspire, and awe crowds. Viktor and Rolf have established a name and keep living up to their title. They only continue to push and strive to invent new concepts. I expect Viktor and Rolf to define new terms for fashion and art. For my ready–to–wear designer I have chosen Elie Saab. I was drawn in by Saab's ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He was born in Damour, Lebanon but he went to school in Paris. At only eighteen years old, he started his own atelier with fifteen employees. An atelier is a designer's studio. Over the years, he has dressed many important people, but his career really took off when he dressed Halle Berry when she went to the Oscars in 2002. Elie Saab's 2018 Spring Ready–to–Wear show was in Paris this year. There was a wide variety of maxi and mini dresses. • 4. Essay about The Painted Bird, Examining The Human Condition In the book The Painted Bird Jerzy Kosinski covers many topics of the human character. Some of the "human conditions" that Kosinski shows us in the book are lying, deceit, love, anger, prejudice, superstition. In the Painted Bird Kosinski mainly focuses on the three "human conditions" hate, prejudice (judgment), and love. He is clear in showing that humans sin a great deal, and feel hate, prejudice, and love. The beginning of the book gives us an idea of how the boy will be treated throughout the story because of his race and how he is judged by others. One of the first adults we see the boy with when he is separated from his parents is Marta. Marta is a very old woman who seems to not care for the boy but fed him and took care of him ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The villagers believed in these superstitions and followed them religiously to keep themselves "safe" from a gypsy such as the boy. As the boy continued his childhood he learns of more and more horrific ways that people of his kind are treated by the Germans. Within chapters 2 &3 the boy clearly learns how he is judged by the villagers and the value of his life to them. After Marta's house burnt down the boy flees to a nearby village to find help, and safety. Along the way he runs into other villagers who recognize the boy as a gypsy. As the boy sat crying he was surrounded by the men and women who beat him while others watched. This is a very sad time for the boy and a hard time because this is the first instance in which he is truly beaten in the book, because of his race. We later learn the similarity between the painted bird and the boy. The boy could be considered the painted bird because he is an outcast like the bird and treated indifferently as the bird. As the boy travels throughout the story he is constantly humiliated and beaten by many strangers and his caretakers humiliate him verbally. This teaches the boy to an extent how others will treat him and what to expect from other villagers he might come across in his life. Throughout the story we encounter love consistently, in these encounters the boy learns how love can affect a mob or a person to be jealous or have hate towards others. One of ... • 5. Dehumanization Of Jewish People During The Holocaust Nathan Vondergeest Mrs. Cummins English 2 9/28/15 Dehumanization of Jewish People during the Holocaust Imagine being treated like cattle – living one's life inside a fence, starved, killed for no reason. Would one hang on to their humanity, or would they let go of their hope, their compassion, their faith? From 1939 to 1945, the Nazi German military systematically kidnapped, tortured and killed millions of Jews in their twisted effort to racially purify Germany. This genocide has come to be known as the Holocaust. During the Holocaust, millions of Jews were mercilessly beaten, sadistically experimented upon, and killed for pleasure. Through these three ways, the Jewish people were treated as subhuman; through these three ways, the Jewish people began to believe it themselves. Jewish people were subjected to terrible beatings, powerless at the hands of the German soldiers. Evidence of this can be found in Night, Elie Wiesel 's memoir of his experience as a Jewish captive of Nazi Germany. When his father asks to use a bathroom, Elie claims the Kapo "slapped [his] father with such force that he fell down and then crawled back to his place on all fours" (Wiesel 39). Obviously, such force exhibited by this Kapo was in humane and uncalled for; these acts, and this attitude of violence and condescension taken by the German Kapos, contributed to the dehumanization of the Jewish people. The spirit of anti–semitism that was so prevalent in Germany during the Holocaust led to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Never shall I forget that nocturnal silence which deprived me, for all eternity, of the desire to live. Never shall I forget those moments which murdered my God and my soul and turned my dreams to dust. Never shall I forget these things, even if I am condemned to live as long as God Himself. Never." At the time he is living in the Hungarian town of Sighet. He is the only son in an Orthodox Jewish household, highly observant of Jewish tradition. Eliezer keen interest in Judaism brings him to avidly study the Cabbala, a book based on Jewish mysticism. His instruction is cut short, however, when his teacher, Moche the Beadle, is deported. Moche returns after a few months with a horrifying tale. The Gestapo, or German secret police, took charge of his train, led everybody into the woods, and systematically butchered them. Nobody believes Moche and the small town quickly takes him for a lunatic. Yet, the reality of Moche's experience becomes evident when a series of increasingly repressive measures are passed by the Nazi's who occupy Hungary in the spring of 1944. The Jews of Eliezer's town are herded onto cattle cars, commencing a nightmarish journey: after days and nights crammed into the car, exhausted and near starvation, the passengers arrive at Birkenau, the gateway to the concentration camp, Auschwitz. Findings show, that Saab's new strategy is based on some of the company's strongest resources, the Brand, technology and expertise in design. This is particularly important as the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In terms of its operational performance Saab has managed to improve since the Spyker take–over (in early 2010). The number of cars sold increased by 15% from 2009 to 2010 while the number of cars produced improved by 53% in the same time. Therefore Saab was able to re–stock the inventories of dealers that were running low, especially in the US (Saab, Saab Automobile sees, 2011). This shows that the company is on the way to a viable company and has the potential to expand further in the upcoming years. However, an issue of up–most importance is the dealing with the large debt obligations that Saab has accumulated. The figure of net working capital of € –220 million illustrates the severity of the financial situation and the cost of new capital, meaning it will be very difficult and costly for Saab to obtain further funds which are needed to implement their strategic decisions (Spyker cars N.V., 2011) . • 9. Review Of ' The Summer Of 2010 ' By Elie Saab Essay In the summer of 2010, Elie Saab was confronted with many challenging decisions for the company, during his meeting with company manager director Churchi Cavalcanti. The main topic of discussion during this meeting was "to grow the brand in new and existing markets while maintaining the brand's exclusivity and position as one of the few remaining established brands in Haute couture." (Kayyal & Shuayto, 2012) The company's success in the last five years has shown a large growth in the ready–to–wear (RTW) product line. As stated in the case, "While revenues have been growing rapidly, 2007 showed a 27 percent growth compared to 2006 and 2008 grew by a staggering 49 per cent compared to the previous year. "Operating expenses also decreased during the same time period." (Kayyal & Shuayto, 2012) The company is on the right track and looking to expand and maintain their momentum. On the other hand, management has been struggling with factors such as, which partners they should go into business with and what new markets they should penetrate to create the maximal level of growth. In this analysis, I will analyze the current position of the company both analytically and quantitatively. I will use this knowledge to make the most logical decision for the future of this company. • 10. The Holocaust 's Night By Elie Wiesel It caused a lack of trust. It separated friends. It brought families closer. The Holocaust forced family members to hold on to each other and trust each other. "In 1933, the Jewish population of Europe stood at over nine million [...] By 1945, the Germans and their collaborators killed nearly two out of every three European Jews as part of the 'Final Solution,' the Nazi policy to murder the Jews of Europe" (Introduction to the Holocaust). Night is a memoir written by Elie Wiesel, a Holocaust survivor. Elie Wiesel's Night describes that father and son relationships, and loyalty changes through acts of inhumanity. Elie Wiesel did not feel very connected to his father in the beginning of the memoir. In 1941, at the age of thirteen, Elie Wiesel was immensely religious and studied Talmud every day. He asked his father if he could find someone who would mentor him in his studies of Kabbalah. Elie's father responded to him by saying, "You are too young for that. Maimonides tells us that one must be thirty before venturing into the world of mysticism, a world fraught with peril. First you must study the basic subjects, those you are able to comprehend" (Wiesel 4). Elie wanted to be a Kabbalist, but his father did not even want him to study Kabbalah. Elie's father thought, according to Maimonides, that he was too young to learn about Kabbalah and disapproved of his choice to study Talmud. Elie's father was not very caring, even towards his own family. He is described as: A cultured ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. How Atticus Finch and Elie Wiesel Demonstrate Heoric... According to Umberto Eco, "The real hero is always a hero by mistake...." In other words, one doesn't act heroic as a lifestyle, but by surprise when the time comes to do so. To be heroic means to put others before you in a desperate time of someone else's despair. Two works of literature that agree with the critical lens are the novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, written by Harper Lee and the memoir, Night, by Elie Wiesel. Atticus Finch and Elie Wiesel both demonstrate heroic actions unintentionally. Another scenario, is that when men rioted at the jail the night before they moved Tom, he said although they were mad they were still good people. Atticus symbolized a hero; he always wanted to give everyone else the benefit of the doubt. He always looked for the good in everything. Elie Wiesel was the protagonist of the memoir Night who overcomes many obstacles while in the Holocaust. Elie was fifteen when he was put in concentration camps. He was separated from his mother and sisters forever; they were immediately sent to the crematoriums. All Elie had was his father who never showed much emotion or affection. Elie lied about his age and said he was older so he could stay with his father as he was advised to by a stranger who was also in the Holocaust. Elie was worked, almost to death, for one year. • 12. Essay Symbolism in Elie Wiesel's Night Symbolism in Night by Brooke Justus Elie Wiesel uses several types of figurative language in Night. In his novel, Elie's use of symbolism is most important in helping the reader understand the horrors of his experience during the Holocaust. The first and most prevalent example of symbolism in the book is the title itself. By calling the novel "Night" it is apparent to the reader that the Holocaust was a dark experience, full of terror and suffering. The entire novel is filled with "last nights". Elie experiences the last night withEl his father, the last night in Buna, the last night in the ghetto, and several others throughout the book. The term "night" also references to a life without a God. Wiesel often says that God does not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first time fire appears in the book is when Madame Schächter screams in terror, claiming that she can see fire from the train. It later becomes known that she received a vision of the horrors that were coming to them in the near future. Fire is also a symbol of cruelty because of its role in the death of millions in the crematoria and in fire pits. Elie witnesses the burning of babies in the beginning of the novel, which is the first time Elie truly understands the severity of the Nazi power. "Never shall I forget that smoke. Never shall I forget the small faces of the children whose bodies I saw transformed into smoke under a silent sky," (Wiesel 34). Fire can also be seen as a symbol of Elie's loss of his faith in his God and in the Jewish religion. In Judaism, tradition says that the evil and wicked will be condemned to Gehenna and suffer a fiery punishment. However, Elie's experiences reverse what he was taught by his faith. The innocent were murdered in the crematorium by the evil. This shows how Elie's faith was strongly questioned during the Holocaust due to the experiences and how his concept of religion was changed dramatically. "Never shall I forget the nocturnal silence that deprived me for all eternity of the desire to live. Never shall I forget those moments that murdered my God and my soul and turned my dreams to ashes." Corpses are also a symbol in Night. Elie often refers to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. The New Jim Crow by Michelle Alexander Essay As Elie Wiesel once stated, "I swore never to be silent whenever and wherever human beings endure suffering and humiliation. We must always take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented" ("Elie Wiesel Quote"). Michelle Alexander's book The New Jim Crow, which discusses criminal justice and its role in mass incarceration, promotes a similar idea regarding silence when America's racial caste system needs to be ended; however, Alexander promotes times when silence would actually be better for "the tormented." The role of silence and lack of silence in the criminal justice system both contribute to wrongly accused individuals and growing populations behind bars. The first ... Following through the process of the criminal justice system, after being stopped by police officers, many individuals remain innocent of committing any crime and walk away from the situation without further questions asked. However, at this point, silence is not the answer. Alexander notes regarding the unreasonable searches, "Hardly anyone files a complaint, because the last thing most people want to do after experiencing a frightening and intrusive encounter with the police is show up at the police station where the officer works and attract more attention to themselves" (Alexander 69). Therefore, these countless searches remain unheard of by many because the innocent are too scared to come forward and tell their stories. Perhaps if the silence is broken, word of mouth would prevent others from being unlawfully searched and arrested based on no suspicion. This is not the case though; nevertheless, it is known that "the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) trains police to conduct utterly unreasonable and discriminatory stops and searches" (Alexander 70). This is because he does not believe that if there is a god, such terrible things could happen. He is in disbelief and falters with his religion, "The Almighty, the eternal and terrible Master of the Universe, choose to be silent" (33). Wiesel starts to resent the God that he once was fond of and rebels against his beliefs, "And in spite of myself, a payer formed inside me, a prayer to this god in whom I no longer believed" (91). Wiesel falters back to believing in God to try to control himself, and keep sane. The second example of Wiesel losing his faith is when he arrived at Auschwitz. They don't much care about how well it works, just about how right it is ... they may even like it better if it inflicts enough pain" (John Barnes). People do not think too much of how their actions affect other human beings. They think making others feel less than who they are is completely ok, even with the level of National Security. It is not ok whatsoever. Instead of dehumanizing people and making them feel worthless and like animals National Security, and other humans, should treat people equally and not like objects, make them feel comfortable and not take away their rights because we are all human and all equal. Although people feel as though they can just take away a person's rights and identity because they feel they are more superior and important, they have no right to. "The three "veterans," with needles in their hands, engraved a number on our left arms. I became A7713. After that I had no other name."(Wiesel 39). Wiesel is talking about how his identity was just taken away from him. And how it was so easy to just become a number, and nothing but a number, so quickly. He had no other identity other than the one given to him when his original name was taken away from him. As a result, Mr. Wiesel and many other humans have and are being stripped of their identity and becoming, or have become, nothing but a number and an object. This boy is an outlier in every town he comes into contact with because of his appearance (Kosinki, 1). During this time people were persecuted if they were not blonde hair, blue–eyed, and fair skinned. The narrative helps show that diversity is a good thing and is needed for a society to function properly. The impact this war and violence had on the society caused people to be shameful of humanity because of the unlimited cruelty that took place during this time period. The unlimited cruelty that was placed upon the people in Eastern Europe showed that these people were seen as smaller, powerless human beings. As a young boy Elie's inquisitive mind directed him to the synagogue where he would study the Kabbalah's revelations and mysteries. Here is where "Moishe the beadle," a friend to Elie, would sit with him in the synagogue and they would talk for hours about the intriguing secrets of Jewish mysticism. One important piece of advice that Moishe told Elie was, "There are a thousand and one gates allowing entry into the orchard of the mystical truth." This simply meant he would need to pursue these answers on his own. However, Elie believed Moishe would help him bind his questions and answers as well, into one. These meetings were interrupted when Moishe was extracted from the Sighet where he experienced malice. He then returned to Sighet after being left for dead and managing to escape from the Gestapo. Moishe witnessed atrocious behavior that affected him profoundly. When he returned, he was not the same person, the vitality in his eyes had perished. He told everyone what he had seen, but no one would pay attention to his words. Even after hearing Moishe's words of warning they labeled him "mad." The Collapse Of Compassion Theory The world of today has been a witness to countless menacing wars, violence, and tragedies, but the amount of sympathy and compassion the people feel towards it has significantly decreased. In fact, it is believed by many that capacity of compassion is limited and so the lack of consideration for other's suffering is part of human nature. Psychologists such as C. Daryl Cameron and Keith Payne have developed the collapse of compassion theory, described in the article, "How to Increase Your Compassion Bandwidth," that suggests that people are growing to become indifferent and less empathetic towards major moments in history of inhumane behavior. The apathetic attitude individuals have towards tragedies is not a phenomenon only seen in the recent years, but in fact can be traced to about seventy years ago, in the midst of the Holocaust. The Holocaust was carried out by Adolf Hitler and his Nazi reign, between 1933 and 1945, which brought upon the world a massive genocide that almost killed the entire Jewish population of Europe. For nearly twelve years, Jewish people were isolated from society with discriminative laws, thrown into crowded and unsanitary ghettos, and then shipped into concentration camps where they met their deaths. • 28. Essay on 3-D Diorama Of the Novel Night by Eli Wiesel This 3–D diorama illustrates a significant scene in the novel Night. This story originated during the First World War in Sighet, Hungary. The Nazis were in power and they wanted to exterminate the Jewish population; this was referred to as the Holocaust. The religious town of Sighet has not been raided yet, so they're expecting for the best. The main characters are Elizer and his father. Sadly, the Nazis reach Sighet and gather the Jews. They could only bring what they could carry, so homes and other valuables were left alone. In this scene, the Jewish population of the small town are being deported to Auschwitz. Auschwitz was the first concentration camp they were sent to, so this was going to have a huge impact on their lives. In the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The significant colors used are red and black within the scene. There are ruthless officers in the camp covered with blood from the assassinated victims. There is a huge crematorium where people would be burned after being killed. There is a red light inside to symbolize blood, screams and death. There are gray ashes rising from the crematorium and these are the only remains of the dead. The cattle car has just reached the Auschwitz station and the officers are preparing for a new batch of Jews. This scene shows the transition between the present and future. Furthermore, it illustrates what the victims of the Holocaust had to lose and endure for several years during the Great War. This scene (selection 2) illustrates an important twist in the beginning of the novel I have incorporated many presentation techniques to further enhance my diorama. For example, my presentation uses many literary devices such as mood, juxtapositions, allusions, imagery and symbols. On the stage, there are two different scenes. One half illustrates Sighet and the other illustrates the Auschwitz station. Firstly, the outside of my shoebox contains two dominant colors: black and white. On one side, it is completely black on the exterior. Black is commonly associated with power, death, struggles and many other negative aspects. This technique better illustrates the literary term imagery. The Nazis were in power and they violently killed the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This novel is closely related to the one "Night". The Novel is about a character named Elisha who like Wiesel's life has to live through the concentration camps as a youngster growing up. Elisha was a young Israeli freedom fighter whose assignment was to kill the officer in reprisal for Britain's execution of a Jewish prisoner. She tried to form a free Israeli state, because she was tired of all of the killings going on in the concentration camps and so forth. She like many other Jews would have felt so much more comftorable with peace then all the deaths that were taking place. Throughout the book her voyage is to kill the man that killed a fellow Jewish prisoner for no apparent reason. This book forwards attention to the life of a young Israeli who struggles through the Holocaust and wants to maintain peace throughout Israel . She is a "diamond in the rough" one could say. Her strong hope was not the same among her fellow Israeli's. The future looked dim and prospects were low. In the past, there was the Holocaust, where Hitler exterminated over six million Jews based on his anti–semitic views. Elie Wiesel, a Jewish author, has become a very influential man in educating the world of the true events of the Holocaust due to his involvement in the disaster. Presently, a genocide is occurring in the Darfur region of southern Sudan, in which according to Cheryl Goldmark, "a systematic slaughter of non–Arab residents at the the hands of Arab militiamen called Janjaweed" has been taking place since 2003. Adolf Hitler, and his Nazi Party that followed him, began persecuting Jews in 1933. Adolf Hitler, the mastermind behind the Holocaust, was an anti–semitic man who believed in a superior Arian German race. Hitler's rise to power was just the beginning of a series of events that almost led to the complete annihilation of many countries' Jewish population. First, laws that limited the Jew's rights were applied. Next, their valuables were taken from their possession, and then the innocent people were forced into cramped ghettos lined with barbwire. According to Sally Marks, "the term holocaust is derived from the Greek language and literally means 'a sacrifice totally consumed by fire'." (1) Living up to its definition, during the Holocaust many Jews were burned in the fiery mouths of the crematoriums. The impact of the segregational laws as well as being forced into ghettos were only the beginning of the inhumane crimes the Jews were subjected to during the Holocaust. Concentration camps were horrible places filled with starvation, dangerous work, and death. After being taken out of the ghettos Jews were most often carted like caged animals to the camps. There, if not immediately sentenced to death during selection, the people were stripped of their identity and thrown into a situation no human deserves to be in. Many Jews either lost their faith or used it as a tool for survival. Many asked themselves, is there a god, or is this a test of faith? (Sheldon 1) Given ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Literature functions as a unique venue to communicate social injustices to society by letting the readers experience the bias treatment through words and how the characters felt. This makes the readers connect and think more deeply about the injustices that are happening in the world today. In The Bluest Eye, by Toni Morrison, Night, written by Elie Wiesel, and Flowers for Algernon, by Daniel Keyes, each author uses literary devices such as tone, symbolism, and character to inform society of its injustices. Pecola's character can be categorize as one of those average people, or as she refers to herself, one of the "ugly people." Morrison creates her character with an abusive past, displaying multiple injustices through her. For example, the abuse that she suffers from society was due to her self–belief that she was ugly, so instead of defending herself, she puts up with the social abuse. The author portrays the idea of being accepted by society through whatever means will only destroy oneself in the end, as stated on page 158, "The damage done was total." In Night, by Elie Wiesel, the author uses a frustrated tone to show how the injustice of the Holocaust impacted Eliezer. On page 67, Eliezer expresses his frustration towards God: "Why, but why should I bless Him? In every fiber, I rebelled. Because He had had thousands of children burned in his pits? Because He kept six crematories working night and day, on Sundays and feast days? Because on His great might, He had created Auschwitz, Birkenau, Buna, and so many factories of death? • 33. Driven to Their Death Driven to Their Death "I swore never to be silent whenever and wherever human beings endure suffering and humiliation. We must take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented." Elie Wiesel once said. Nazis tormented the Jews all throughout the Holocaust just because they didn't like their race. There have been multiple movies, books, and graphic novels about the holocaust showing all the traumatic deaths, and other horrifying events that took place. The graphic novel Maus written by Art Spiegelman shows the survival story of a man named Vladek, and written by his son Artie. Vladek was a true survivor, whether it was purely luck or not, but he also cared about other people who were there with him. In the movie Schindler's List directed by Steven Spielberg this shows the story about the holocaust and how one man named Schindler saved many men, women, and families. In both stories, there are multiple motifs such as trains, lists, and death. Both stories show the same motifs in very similar ways. One way the motifs are the same is that the trains represent their journey to their own death. In Maus, there are multiple pictures of trains throughout the novel. Trains were used for transportation and ultimately to send Jews to concentration camps. One of the most important trains was the one that the Spiegelman's were on when they thought they were going to Hungary, but they ended up being at Auschwitz. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As their time in the concentration camp continues, the conditions there worsen. The prisoners are soon forced into a treacherous forty–two mile run in the icy cold, which makes them struggle between life the death. During this march, one thing keeps Wiesel's will to live alive and that is his father. This shows one of Wiesel's weakest moments, where he contemplates giving up numerous times. Exhaustion takes over his body, and the only thing he can think about is the pleasures that death would bring him. Wiesel's mind overpowers him and he reflects, "Death wrapped itself around me till I was stifled. It stuck to me. I felt that I could touch it. The idea of dying, of no longer being, began to fascinate me" (82). However, his father needs him, and that is truly what drives him to keep pushing until the end. They stay alive for each other, which shows how much they really care about the other. While Wiesel rests in the shed after the run, Rabbi Eliahou, a very well–liked man, comes in looking for his son. He and his son have been sticking together for three years. Wiesel expresses that he has not seen him, without realizing that this is false. The Rabbi's son purposely left him, to strengthen his own chances of survival. It was also this message that William Golding tried to express through the scenario of his magnum opus, 'Lord of the Flies'. The first of the 2 novels is Night, in this novel; it is often shown through–out the book that in times of need, people are willing to turn on one another. By seeing how Eliezer's views about his father changed in the novel, it is proven that Eliezer began to focus more on surviving and desires than some of the important things like family thus proving that the evil change that Eliezer went was in fact nothing more than him falling back onto his more primitive beliefs of focusing on living by instinct and desire. The first of the two quotes to prove that is here: "He slapped my father with such force that he fell down and then crawled back to his place on all fours. I stood petrified. What had happened to me? My father had just been struck, in front of me, and I had not even blinked. I had watched and kept silent. Only yesterday, I would have dug my nails into this criminal's flesh. Had I changed so much?"(Wiesel 39) This quote is from Eliezer's first moments in Auschwitz. And from this quote, we know that it also marks the beginning of Eliezer's steadily decreasing lack of sympathy for others for he had already began his descent to using his primitive instincts. Elie Wiesel–a Holocaust survivor and award–winning human rights activist–passionately gave his speech, "The Perils of Indifference," while in the White House on April 12, 1999. The speech was part of the Millennium Lecture series, which was hosted by President Bill Clinton and his wife. Mrs. Hilary Clinton introduced Elie as well, saying: "It was more than a year ago that I asked Elie if he would be willing to participate in these Millennium Lectures...I never could have imagined that when the time finally came for him to stand in this spot and to reflect on the past century and the future to come, that we would be seeing children in Kosovo crowded into trains, separated from families, separated from their homes, robbed of their childhoods, their memories, their humanity." Indeed, the events in Kosovo created an effective environment that Wiesel could use to tell the audience about some of his experiences during the Holocaust and to communicate why humanity must fight against the evil of indifference. Wiesel knows about that evil firsthand. How could he not with his experiences in the Holocaust? This experience is a large factor in his relationship with the issue, and he references it subtly several times, as he frequently uses the words "we" and "us" when talking about those who have experienced the worst effects of indifference. The play was set in a feudal European settlement where three travelling Jewish artistes put God on trial to answer for His quietness during a pogrom. It is a powerful drama with historical and especially post–Shoah concerns surrounding faith. While imprisoned in Auschwitz, Elie Wiesel witnessed a trial. It was not unusual for prisoners to witness trials, this one would be different and very unusual. It was unusual because of the defendant. God was on trial. God was tried for turning his back and ignoring the Jewish people in their ultimate hour of need. God was tried in absentia. I mean how you can put God on the witness stand is a question all in itself. There was one problem, no one was willing to take on the role of God's attorney. God was eventually found guilty. After the verdict was announced, the "court" prayed. How is that for an oxymoron? But this incident, which served as the inspiration for The Trial of God, is part of the long Jewish tradition of arguing with God. Elie Wiesel was born in 1928 in Transylvania, which is now Romania. He and his family were deported by the Nazi's in 1943 to the most notorious concentration camp of all time, Auschwitz.
