Reflection On Gestalt Theory
The CSI guest speaker presentation focused on Gestalt theory. The speaker was very knowledgeable
with Gestalt theory and facilitating the use of it in her counseling career. Gestalt's qualities are
expressed by Kohler's observations that the whole is more than the sum of the parts and that the
whole can be transposed without change of pattern (Darsono, 1970). During the speaker
presentation participants were involved in dialogue with one another, answering questions, and
involved in a variety of activities. This was a complete change than a typical speaker who would be
going off of power point slides and not well engaged with the audience. The speaker was very
involved and allowed free thinking and opportunities to speak up or not participate if the individual
did not want to. The speaker discussed Gestalt theory, the use of it in therapy, and her background
with Gestalt. She was very insightful and knowledgeable about the topic which made the time fly.
After giving insight and information about Gestalt, the speaker engaged the audience with a variety
of activities. This allowed most individuals to work together and create things with pipe cleaners all
while not verbally communicating with others they were working with. This showed that people
tend to just go along with others, a leader is established, and that when more people are involved the
less clear a message or design will be. Working alone during this activity, an individual was able to
have a clear and obvious

Affirmative Action And Its Effect On Minority Minorities...
Affirmative action is described in sociology as, policies and programs that aim to avoid
discrimination and redress past discrimination through the active recruitment of qualified minorities
for jobs, promotions, and educational opportunities. (i.e. Exp. Soc., pg 280). In other words, the law
was put in place as an attempt to create pluralism in the United States structure of opportunity.
When describing affirmative action, the generalized assumption is individuals being handed
opportunities based only on their ethnicity. Whether or not that opinion rings through to the
majority, consider the events that lead to the enactment of affirmative action in the first place. The
structure of opportunity in the United States has always been a biased and unfair in its distribution
of opportunities. Since the beginning, the structure of opportunity has always been in favor of
whiter, and ultimately wealthier Americans. Segregation, discrimination, and complete disregard for
people of different ethnicity and color made it as such.
People of color were seen as an inferior, and ultimately poorer group of people than people who
were white. In earlier time, a metaphorical "glass ceiling" held back student of different ethnicity
from becoming more educated. The "glass ceiling" that held them back for so long was the structure
of opportunity being as biased as it is. In essence, the economic conditions, culture, and other
aspects of certain people had an impact on how they lived in society.

The Key Elements Of Educational Opportunity Essay
Hammond recognizes this and after presenting her concerns, she postulates that to achieve a greater
democracy we must continue to work to "equalize access to educational opportunity"(Hammond
2010) by focusing on "five key elements: Meaningful learning goals...Intelligent reciprocal
accountability systems...equitable and adequate resources...Strong professional standards and
supports...Schools organized for student and teacher learning." (Hammond 2010). Although well
intentioned past federal reforms have neglected to successfully address these important goals.
Darling–Hammond does her best to help us understand what policymakers and administrators need
to accomplish to create a system that will be successful for the children of our country. She outlines
specific issues and attempts to create a plan for moving our system forward backed by research and
previously successful systems. Her plan highlighted the need to train, and support more high
qualified teachers, design curriculum to promote inquiry and authentic learning environments, and
refocus how we hold teachers accountable. Our education system is extremely assessment focused,
and although this does provide a mode of keeping teacher 's accountable for their student 's
achievement, teachers have no way of keeping policymakers accountable to school district needs.
She called for a shift to a professional growth mindset and underlined the need for the government
to hold themselves accountable for ensuring that there is an

Educational Budget Cuts: Denying Students the Opportunity...
Are today's students being cheated out of the best education possible just to balance the budget? The
forthcoming of Pennsylvania relies on the education of the younger generations. Only time can tell
whether adolescents, currently being educated, can maintain the high level of learning with the
barriers they are going to encounter with the proposed budget. For a positive future in Pennsylvania,
the youth must be educated intelligently and properly. Proposed Pennsylvania state educational
budget cuts will deny students the opportunity to develop their fullest potential creatively,
academically, and socially.
Governor Tom Corbett's new budget proposal of 27.3 billion dollars will result in significant cuts for

Between teachers being cut, programs being removed, and taxes being increased, the estimate is
about $300 million, or 1,500 dollars per student being eliminated by the budget (Jaye). Even the
teachers that do not get laid off will have to suffer a freeze on their salaries for one year. By means
of the one billion dollar cut in K–12 education, the Philadelphia Area Schools will be impacted the
most, since they have the largest school districts in the state. According to Emily Jaye, in addition to
the K through 12 cuts, the fourteen–state owned Pennsylvanian Universities' funding programs will
be cut in half (Jaye). Along with the previous cuts stated, the higher education cuts could result in
increasing tuitions, furloughing teachers, and closing some off–site campuses. Lastly, budget cuts
are taking away the opportunities for tutoring programs in school, before–and–after school
programs, and summer school (Muska 2). As a result of the education cuts and the effects that come
with them, three main categories are going to be impacted for students. The first impact will come in
the area of social interactions. A study that was conducted at Michigan State University estimates
that 25 million youth participate in sports, and about 20 percent of these participants are in high
school programs (Jaye). Other studies have shown that high school athletes have lower rates of
alcohol and tobacco use (Voy and Deeter 219). Children, who participate

My Experience As A Resident Assistant (UCO)
Brigadier General Diana Holland once said, "lead the way you want to be lead, follow the way you
want to be followed, and be a team player." This quote really resonates with me because being a
leader means also knowing how to be a follower and be a part of something bigger than yourself. I
believe that being a leader doesn't always mean being at the front of the line. Being a leader means
supporting, encouraging and empowering others to become their own potential. Through my three
years at UCO, I have ben able to reflect on the person I was when I enrolled as a freshman and see
the immense growth that I have gained from being a student at UCO. The most exciting part is that I
know that it is only the beginning. I have had a chance to become very involved on this campus in
theses three years and I plan to continue trough to graduation. As, a very dedicated member of The
National Organization for Women I aspire to promote change on campus with issues like women's
rights, racism, homophobia, LGBT rights and reproductive rights. With NOW, I have gotten the
opportunity to fight for the best health care on campus, hold a Town Hall meeting regarding child

College : Is The Juice Worth The Squeeze?
College: Is the Juice Worth the Squeeze?
Many students face internal battles during their college careers; sleepless nights, studying for exams,
constant social issues, and the fear of not having a definitive career path. This all leads to the
questions "why am I here"? "What is the true purpose of college?" Many writers have described
these struggles in great detail. They feel the reward for overcoming these struggles is intellectual
growth. This growth is achieved by challenging themselves, acquiring knowledge in multiple fields,
and learning how to become an essential part of society.
An effective way for students to achieve intellectual growth is by challenging themselves in several
different ways. David Hodge, President of Miami University in Oxford, claims that college is a
place for "intellectual collisions" to occur (qtd in "What is"). He emphasizes the notion that college
is best served as a time to challenge the mind in several forms. Each student is placed in a
competitive learning environment that undoubtedly helps mold teenagers into adults. College isn't
easy, and nor should it be. Having professors who refuse to let students skate by allows them to
obtain an understanding of what the professional world is like. Outside of college, young adults are
unlikely to find an academic setting that is used primarily to enhance their intellectual prowess. The
access to interacting with intelligent peers, guidance from experienced professors and

James Coleman's Equality Of Educational Opportunity
The report was so "seismic" – Daniel Patrick Moynihan's word – that Lyndon B. Johnson's
administration released it on Fourth of July weekend, 1966, hoping it would not be noticed. But the
Coleman Report did disturb various dogmatic slumbers and vested interests. And 50 years on, it is
pertinent to today's political debates about class and social mobility. So, let us now praise an
insufficiently famous man, sociologist James Coleman, author of the study "Equality of Educational
Opportunity." In 1966, postwar liberalism's confidence reached its apogee. From 1938, when the
electorate rebuked Franklin Roosevelt for his plan to "pack" the Supreme Court, through 1964,
congressional Republicans and conservative Democrats prevented a liberal legislating majority. But
Johnson's 44–state victory that year gave Democrats 68 Senate seats and a ... Show more content on

Moynihan, then a 37–year–old social scientist in Johnson's Labor Department, presented in "The
Negro Family: The Case for National Action" what then counted as shocking news: 23.6 percent of
African American births were to unmarried women. Today 71 percent are. Almost 47 percent of all
first births are to unmarried women, and a majority of all mothers under 30 are not living with the
fathers of their children. The causes of family disintegration remain unclear, but 51 years ago
Moynihan and then Coleman foresaw the consequences. Moynihan said the "tangle" of pathologies
associated with the absence of fathers produces a continually renewed cohort of inadequately
socialized adolescent males. Socializing them is society's urgent business if it is to avoid chaotic
neighborhoods and schools where maintaining discipline displaces teaching. Coleman documented
how schools are reflections of, rather than cures for, the failure of families to function as the primary
transmitters of social

Universal Equality Of Educational Opportunity
Confidence in the principle of universal equality of educational opportunity is difficult to maintain
when one views the breadth of the educational landscape in America. When viewing two schools
that fall on opposite sides of the spectrum in nearly every measurable aspect, it is crucial to make
sense of where such disparity is founded so that the education system can be altered to better
society. One such example of a tremendous educational gap is found in the 3.6 miles that span
between the Nashville High Schools Pearl Cohn and Hume Fogg. Pearl Cohn, an entertainment
magnet school located in a predominantly African American and poor socioeconomic area, has a
69% graduation rate, whereas Hume Fogg, an academic magnet school with 97% of students
proficient in math and/or reading, has only 21% of students classified as economically
disadvantaged (). Every similar and contrasting aspect between Pearl Cohn and Hume Fogg, overt
and covert, can be viewed in the context the educational inequity birthed from Brown vs. Board and
subsequent Brown II decision. Thus, by pairing observations of the two schools with the content
discussed in Ogletree's All Deliberate Speed, one can begin to make sense of the large discrepancies
seen between the two schools, proof that society, the school and the teacher are interdependent.
Before Pearl Cohn and Hume Fogg can be compared, they must be historically placed within the
framework of the crucial legislation known as Brown vs. Board and Brown II.

Ministry Needs For Pastors And Evangelists
Ministry needs in India
Transportation needs for pastors and evangelists:
Many pastors in rural and forest areas take the word of God to surrounding villages and unreached
tribal groups by walking many miles a day. Any other mode of transportation would help reach more
people in a shorter time.
Each cycle costs – $100
Each reconditioned motor bike costs – $650
Incomplete Church buildings:
Many Pastors do not have church buildings. Believers gather in small huts or under trees. It is very
difficult to meet and worship regularly during rainy season and summer. A small one room shed
would go a long way and enable the church to meet regularly and reach out to the surrounding areas
with the message of the gospel.
Pastor Joseph, Makkapeta Krishna District is a wonderful man of God. He started a church with the
help of church believers. He and his family put all their efforts to complete the church but they
themselves are in financial difficulties. His wife's health is not good. They are unable to pay rent in
house they are currently living in and are being forced to vacate. This poor pastor family is
requesting financial support to complete the church roof and additional room for his family.
Support needed to complete construction – $1000.

Persuasive Essay On Progressivist
3A) Personally, my greatest talent or skill would have to be that of a determined progressivist
towards impossible perfectionist; simply stating, being a determined progressivist allows me to
make assurances of whether my assignments, applications, or any other important task are done
towards completion. Whatever obstacle I face on this ever–changing path of life, I always refute the
option to give in and fail. Most of those who do face these types of challenges typically give in, quit,
and find a more elementary occupation to fulfill what they could have been; however, I had never
faced a challenge in which itself had made me stressed to the point of submission and of defeat.
Even if the odds are stacked against me, I do not let those odds topple over and convince me to
concede. This skill was one that I had to truly develop throughout the entirety of my life. There were
countless opportunities and influences that would have pushed towards me to recede and let others
take the chance. The reason as to why this skill is truly dear to my own being is due to the fact that
the majority of others feel content with what seems to be more simple to complete. This is what sets
me apart from everyone else who has the same aspirations likewise to myself. This skill,
unfortunately, had always suffered from negligence and had been overshadowed by more
pretentious and immediate occupations. Very few students, like myself, had given this valuable skill

government did attempt to create a system that would protect these students, yet, they failed to keep
it from going dormant(https://www2.ed.gov/about/offices/list/ocr/docs/hq43ef.html . What, one may
ask, are the repercussions of having students that are constantly in a state of competitiveness? One
thing that has been a major problem is student attitude. As a student moves through elementary
school and into middle it is not hard for them to realize the unneeded separation of classes. The
lower class students develop an attitude that is based on "being like the other kids." This attitude
then turns from a simple jealous manner to a give up manner. Why would a student try their hardest
to only have a teacher keep them at a C level because their clothes do not say polo or Nike? Students
see this and their reaction is a direct result of the problems in the equal opportunity act. If students
learn that their efforts are not worth anything, a whole generation learns that worthless feeling

James Coleman is the author of the famous, "Coleman Report". The Coleman Report is an article
based on James Coleman's findings in a major study conducted at John Hopkins University.
Professor Coleman worked along side others to conduct a study with the goal of resolving the
problems of equal educational opportunities. This report was published by the US Government,
under the title "Equality of Educational Opportunity". It is noted that the concept of "equality of
educational opportunity" has changed drastically over the years. The research conducted used data
collected from over 600,000 students and teachers across the U.S. in more than 3,000 schools. The
results of this study suggested that academic achievement was more related to the student's sense of
control, the verbal skills of teachers, and the students background than being related to the quality of
a student's school. The results of this study informed people on how to shape desegregation policies
and equalize racial issues in public schools across the U.S. As mentioned, Coleman discusses how
the idea of "equality of educational opportunity" has drastically changed. The first stage suggested
that all children should be exposed to and taught the same exact curriculum. The second stage
suggested that all children will have different futures, so they should be taught a curriculum based
on what they will need later in their lives. The third and fourth stages can be seen as being the
results of the challenges the

The American Dream In Behold The Dreamers
Many people identify America as the land of opportunity, freedom, and equality, which are ideals
used to define the American Dream. The American Dream promises immigrants and citizens a
chance to pursue a better life, which is portrayed throughout the novel Behold the Dreamers .
Behold the Dreamers , by Imbolo Mbue, follows the lives of Jende and Neni Jonga, an immigrant
couple from Cameroon, who live in Harlem in hopes of providing a better life for their family.
Throughout the Jonga's journey, Imbolo Mbue proves that the essentials of hard work, education,
and strong families are not enough for achieving the American Dream. Jende and Neni came to
America in hopes of a brighter future for their family, but come to face with reality and are forced to
make an impossible choice. Americans are taught that the most important essential to achieving
success is through hard work, but Jende, as an immigrant, never had the opportunity to be successful
no matter how hard he worked. Jende's journey begins when he is given the opportunity to work for

Educational Opportunity And Economic Inequality
Educational Opportunity and Economic Inequality
Presently, education and the economy are great concerns in the United States; however, these topics
are not mutually exclusive. Many argue that education offers those with low incomes a way to move
into the middle or higher classes; others argue that education cannot resolve the problem of
economic inequality. Two recent articles address and argue this issue. The first, "Why Education Is
Not an Economic Panacea" by John Marsh, was originally published in Marsh 's non–fiction book
Class Dismissed: Why We Cannot Teach or Learn Our Way Out of Inequality in 2011 and later
appeared in The Chronicle of Higher Education. In it, Marsh argues that education is not the

Concerning the educational frustrations of the poor, DeParle emphasizes, "By eighth grade, Melissa
was at the top of her class and sampling a course at a private high school. She yearned to apply there
but swore the opposite to her mother and grandparents. Protecting families from their own ambition
is a skill many poor students learn. 'I knew we didn't have the money,' Melissa said. 'I felt like I had
no right to ask'" (DeParle). The majority of his article summarizes every major event in the girls'
lives that led up to this point in their education, as well as how their stories relate to each other,
solidifying both logical and emotional appeals and helping his audience understand and sympathize
with the girls' struggles.
In contrast, Marsh focuses on his personal experiences as a professor, specifically in the "Odyssey
Program," in his effort to evoke sympathy from his readers. In this program, people living at or
below 150% of the poverty level and between the ages 18 and 45 could attend night classes for
college credit that could be transferred to other colleges in the future. Marsh focuses a little on the
individual human aspect of the situation, recalling, "Our valedictorian, a brilliant young African–

Pros And Cons Of Attending College
The Best Option
Not all students have the opportunity to attend college. Stephanie Owen and Isabel Sawhill "Should
Everyone Go to College?" exposes that "there is enormous variation in the so–called return to
education depending on factors such as institutions attended, field of study, whether a student
graduates, and post–graduation occupation" (209). Important to know that attending college gives
everyone the opportunity to grow as a professional in their field. While most people think college as
a waste of time, it is important to remember that the experiences and knowledge acquired by
attending college are useful in our daily life and for a better job opportunity. However, everyone
should know the pros and the cons of going to college and be mindful, self–oriented, of the career
and path they choose to go throw college. Going to college is a good option because of the benefits
of earn experiences and knowledge to get a better job for the future; however, going to college can
be a nightmare if people are not fully concentrate on the studies or don't have enough money to pay

Social Inequality And Educational Opportunity And Health
The people of the United States have frequently lived in their everyday life preferably thinking that
there is no class stratification within America. They have thought that they no longer have those
social classes that existed like a century ago (Ervin 7). Acknowledging the various social strata most
often people prefer to ignore the disparity that is associated with them. Historically, social disparities
relate to educational opportunity and health. However, a lot of improvements have been made in the
social institutions and structures benefiting the entire society in the past hundred years. From these
same historical events, many people of the United State had found themselves disadvantaged as a

an unarguably huge measure that is variant throughout America, and higher measure is among older
adults, women, individuals under the age of eighteen and people of color. Close to 13.3%,
Americans operate below the poverty line despite the fact that the US is the wealthiest country

Equality Of Educational Opportunity By James Coleman Essay
The issue of inequality in schools comes in many forms, whether it's the inequality of money given
to certain schools, or the issue of students not receiving the same education because of where they
come from. Many students drop out of school because they feel they can't continue to achieve,
which I feel is awful because everyone deserves to have an education in which they reach their full
potential. Today's society is all about trying to make the world equal for everyone, but no one wants
to try to implement the changes that would make it a fair world. Students shouldn't have to worry
about getting an education based on what their socioeconomic background is, or because of what
race they are, but sadly, that's the type of world that occupies the American society and its
educational system. The Concept of Equality of Educational Opportunity by James Coleman
discusses what Coleman believes to be the disparity between the educational success of lower class

How Paso A Paso Is A Community Education Center Located Of...
Business Description
Paso a Paso is a community education center located in San Antonio Aguas Calientes, Guatemala.
Founded in 2010, we began by providing after school programs for a dozen children in the home of
one of our teachers. Today, we work with dozens of households on a daily basis provided an array of
services.
We are developing our new 'Learn and Earn' Program to focus on increasing financial literacy and
providing training and tools to enhance entrepreneurial efforts in the community. The program will
involve the creation of new classes and two for–profit stores to allow principles taught in classes to
be applied to the real world. The stores allow entrepreneurial minded individuals the opportunity to
create and sell products in their community.
The community center will have programming for different age groups (youth, young adults, and
adults). Youth– Introducing youth to basic financial concepts, beginning relationships with banking
institutions (through savings), developing classes to teach youth about starting a business, and
hosting challenges to have them start their own short–term micro–businesses. Young adults–
Continued education on financial literacy and businesses, planning and savings for higher education,
and a platform to begin their own micro–business. Adults– Financial literacy, business concepts, and
work with them to develop new products and run the stores.
The stores would cater to the need of locals and tourist. To not cannibalize existing

Two Potential Educational Opportunities
Currently, I have two potential educational opportunities I am aiming at achieving right now in my
life. One is my ultimate goal of being in the psychology field and working with people and helping
them cope with life challenges and successes in general. My second choice is becoming a BSN, I am
more into helping others and have been all my life so this is why I have chosen these two
educational paths for myself. I have already completed my prerequisites for nursing and have been
accepted into the Nursing Program for the fall at RCBC. In the meantime while I'm waiting to begin
nursing classes in September I am completing some psychology classes need during the summer. I

Poor Educational Achievement and Opportunities for Foster...
"The direction in which education starts a man will determine his future in life"(Plato). Plato's
assessment was accurate, because the importance of learning enables individuals to put their
potentials to optimal use. The foster care system can handicap the educational achievement of
children. This handicap can follow those children beyond the scholastic world and into the
professional world. Today, seventy percent of teens that break away from foster care report that they

The economic recession is a major contributing factor as to why many students are enrolling back
into colleges and universities. A majority of these students are enrolling at higher rates because the
job market has also become extremely competitive. These students are giving up their time and
money to raise their educational level. Many people have realized that education is a passport to a
better future. Without education, people may end up unemployed resulting in the possibility of
destitution. More and more students are finding it difficult to get into the classes they need to

Seeing my younger sister smile for the first time in months after watching her spend most of her
childhood battling depression was one of the happiest moments in my life. I watched her
transformation after three months of enrollment in an inpatient program. She returned home with an
arsenal of tools to aid in her fight against her disorder. Though it was difficult, she left her program
with resources she did not have before, such as therapists who stayed in contact and provided her
with support as she needed it. This experience has been valuable to my family, not only because it
improved to my sister's quality of life, but it also aligns with the core values my mother instilled in
me and my siblings: to take care of yourself and assist those around you. While working two jobs to
support us, my mother made time to provide an abundance of emotional support for her children.
Her unwavering support created a secure foundation within me. With such a strong base, my
personal growth was immense and a desire to positively impact others grew. I wanted to be a
positive role model for inner–city youth, providing assistance and resources to those in need.
Additionally, the opportunity to observe how committed my sister's therapists were to the
improvement of her well–being inspired me. Watching how devoted they were and how positively
they affected her spurred a desire in me to lead a life assisting those who experience emotional or

Personal Statements Describe how you have taken advantage of a significant educational
opportunity or worked to overcome an educational barrier you have faced. As far as my knowledge
goes, I cannot say that I have an extremely high amount. I constantly struggle with my school work,
and I do not have any strong subject. I am not the type of person to be able to pass an exam without
studying. For me, I must put effort in everything I do. That is my biggest educational barrier. I
consider myself as "average". The problem with me is that I want to go beyond that average
standard. I want to exceed the standard expectations. My grades are quite good, as I have almost all
A's as well as a 3.83 GPA. When people see this achievement, they tell me, "That is not surprising.
You are so smart!" I never answer to their response, because deep down inside, I know that this is
far from true. My grades are not from naturally understanding things immediately, but are from
working hard, and putting in as much effort as possible. I stay up late every night just to understand
the material. While most people complete their assignments and call it a day, I not only complete it,
but I always make sure to ask this question, "Do I understand this enough to do this easily on a
test?" If the answer is no, I spend at least another hour to understand the content. I dread every time

Social Transformation Of Women 's Educational...
This study examines the social transformation of the women's educational opportunities in the early
nineteenth–century America. Although the revolution of women's role in our society has deep roots,
this ongoing movement was originated from two major pioneers: Mary Lyon and Catherine Beecher.
Their effort in negotiating educational equality has made a considerable impact on the advancement
of women's rights in our society. To fight for what was right, these women chose education as their
best weapon. The pursuit of independence began with these leaders challenging the society and
rejecting the traditional beliefs embedded within. Mutually reinforcing, their work registered
significant developments in the academic society.
As usually demonstrated, women's responsibilities in the society have been programmed to be
limited to domestic household tasks: cleaning, cooking, raising children, social etiquette, sewing,
knitting, etc. The goal was to present them as a beautified status symbol. Parents raised their
daughters for the same mission; to become a properly adequate as housewives for their partners. As
Clifford and Redding explain, "the exposé of education for social control" as a concept makes an
important intermediate factor in the relationship between learning experiences and social structures.
These societal norms derived from a blend of many factors. Religious prescriptions, civil society
expectations, and political barriers drew the contours of gender injustice. Women

The Story of Educational Opportunity in Modern America by...
Five Miles Away, A World Apart: One City, Two Schools, and The Story of Educational Opportunity
in Modern America, written by James E. Ryan is a story about educational opportunity. It starts off
by describing two very different schools in Richmond Virginia that are only about five miles apart
from each other. The first school, Freeman High School is a suburban school, while the second
school, Thomas Jefferson or "Tee–Jay" High School is a city school. Ryan explains how even after
all of the Supreme Court rulings to make schools more integrated and more equal that city and
suburban schools are still very unequal and not very integrated. Freeman and Tee Jay schools are a
great example of this. Freeman is predominantly white but is becoming more and more diverse.
Today, the school is made up of 73% white, 13% African–American, 7% Hispanic, and 6% are
Asian. The majority of students in this school come from middle–class families. Tee–Jay is also
diverse but is predominantly black. Today, the school's student body is made up of 82% black, 16%
white, and 2% are Asian or Hispanic. Most of the students at Tee–Jay High School come from poor
families. In this book Ryan goes through the past, present, and future of educational opportunity and
specifically goes into how school district lines affect education.
After introducing these two schools and how he will use them for real life examples, Ryan begins to
explain how there have been many efforts since the 70's to

We may think that a person who does not work hard enough to do better and accomplish their goals
is the reason behind their failures rather than examining the bigger picture.
Though I do see the idea behind Kozol's statement, I do not fully agree with it. From my own point
of view, I believe that the children in certain schools are given better opportunities to advance more
in their careers and educations rather than be purposely trained to be governors. Kids in other
schools that do not have the same opportunities are not purposely taught to be task–followers.
Children, no matter what part of the city they live in, all have big dreams. All children have dreams
to want to do well and have successful, content lives. In a way, I see Kozol's statement as a
metaphor for the educational opportunities that children receive. Children who are educated to
become governors are given more tools to be successful in their careers while those who are trained
to be governed end up having more skills to be successful in their personal lives, or to be "street
smart".
I find that two social causes for this problem would be lack of funds being incorporated into inner–
city schools and lack of outside attention given to this issue. Kozol states that, "annual per–pupil
spending now approximates the levels found in some adjacent middle–class communities but that
the children in these districts still do not perform at nearly the same levels

Student Loan Loans Should Not Be Educational Opportunities...
i. Student–loan defaults in China
In the context of entering the mass higher education stage, the ideology of cost–sharing and equity
in higher education is now widely accepted as a must–do in China, and there is a tradeoff in which
colleges can charge tuition fees in exchange for better financial aids to students from disadvantaged
groups. Thus, implementing a student–loan scheme to ensure educational opportunities for needy
students is the primary choice for the Chinese government. Nowadays the availability of student
loans has been significantly improved while the issue of debt collection is still not addressed. In
other words, high default rates will further negatively impact the sustainability of student loans.

Student borrowers who do not immediately pursue further education typically must begin making
monthly payments on their loans after graduation. In the first 3–year grace period, they are only
requested to repay interests, and then pay off their loans up to 20 years.
By the end of 2013, 3.13 million graduates had entered repayment period, and the total balance of
outstanding student debt was 16.35 billion RMB, which accounted for around one–third of the total
volume. Most notably, the default rate by principal plus interest amount was 4.13% and the ratio of
students who defaults is 3.95% in 2013. To be detailed, the default rate of school–based student
loans was 9.46% whereas that of home–based student loans was only 0.22% . However, based on
loan recovery statistics of 30 provinces, the highest default of home–based student loans went up to

The Benefits Of Volunteering In The Community Service
There is a common misconception that those who volunteer do it as a result of a consequence
typically assigned to them as a result of a negative behavior. Many walk into a volunteering
experience with low expectations, lacking the motivation to acquire anything from the community
service, but soley for the purpose to retain hours to have signed off on a sheet of paper. Generally,
expecations upon arrival are low and volunteers walk into the assigned service hoping to do the bare
minimum and are constantly looking over at the clock eagerly in hopes of turning hours into
minutes. Instead of exhausting most of your energy on pondering how much longer will it be until
one can leave, enjoy the opportunity presented to learn and to become a better individual that is
alloted through this experience. As a volunteer, if you walks in with the mentality of how
unpleaseant they assume the experience to be and how you would much rather be spending their
time doing other things, one will truly never acquire anything from the experience itself. We deem
many things to be more vital in our day to day lives than to help someone in need whose life will be
touched. By coming involved within the community and taking part of changing someone's life for
the better you too will find yourself experiencing a drastic change in how you go about life, the way
you express yourself, how compassionate you are towards others. Volunteering comes with many

My Career And Education Goals
What does one do when they find themselves with all the experience in the world, but without

taken a stab at it myself, once or twice. What I've come to realize is that my educational and career
goals aren't necessarily a sequential order of charted events. Instead, they're a marri–go–round of
happenstance encounters. In this essay, one will read how various opportunities have ultimately
shaped my career and education goals.

I remained a Credential Processor for five years. It was a job, but it didn 't feel like a career. I was
comfortable, but I knew that I wanted more. I didn 't know exactly what I wanted more of, but I
decided that going back to school would be a helpful way of figuring that out. The decision to go

A year later, in 2009, I was still a credential processor, and still without a master's degree. Within the

Graduation Speech : An Incoming Eof ( Educational...
As an incoming EOF (Educational Opportunity Found) freshmen attending Rutgers University this
fall, I had the mindset that if I did well academically, the transition from high school to college
would go by smoothly. Unfortunately, college isn 't that simple. The transition to college is much
more complex than people perceive it to be, in my case, it's the most difficult obstacle I've ever
encountered. Therefore, my aspiration is to conquer this transitional period as quickly and fluently
as possible. When I had to changeover from middle school to high school, I was terrified. I didn 't
know what awaited me and how much different things were going to be. It turned out high school
was exactly the same, with the exception of the grades being ninth through Twelfth. There was
nothing to be worried about. On the other hand, that wouldn 't be the case in college.
EOF has opened my eyes to this realization. Being a part of this program has unraveled some
difficulties that come with adapting to the transition here at Rutgers, which most likely get me in a
predicament. One of these realizations is being present and on time to my classes. In high school I
had the habit of constantly being late to school and class without a care in the world. In the
beginning, it didn 't seem to be that important, until it came back to bite me. Having my counselor
inform me that if I 'm late one last time I wouldn't walk with my senior class. I told myself, "This

I believe her support for the community is especially outlined when she discusses her views on
education. Vote–Smart writes, "Kirsten Gillibrand. Issue Position: Expanding Educational

Behind by providing additional funding for our schools, increasing local control and avoiding the
practice of solely teaching to standardized tests. As a mother of two young sons, Congresswoman
Gillibrand has been a strong advocate for increasing access to early childhood education programs."
Although she may not fully understand every conflict of a black male raised in Brooklyn, she seems
to understand that access to education is very important for some of the students who are raised in
lower income areas. Furthermore, I would personally support Gillibrand in her next election because
she exhibits some of the same values and views as I do, such as being pro choice, and marriage
equality. She is also becoming very experienced and she is a good representative of my community.
One leadership quality that Gillibrand embodies is the ability to use her personal experiences to help
her understand the people. In all of my research it shows that she connects the problems of the
people with similar circumstances that she has dealt with in a maternal state. Vote–smart writes, "
"Like every parent, Kirsten wants her children to have access to quality schools, well–paid and

I would talk to the administrative board privately. I would discuss my desire for a culture of

If I answered the door to the press, I would think before I responded. One must always be careful in

Reflection On Gestalt Theory

  • 1. Reflection On Gestalt Theory The CSI guest speaker presentation focused on Gestalt theory. The speaker was very knowledgeable with Gestalt theory and facilitating the use of it in her counseling career. Gestalt's qualities are expressed by Kohler's observations that the whole is more than the sum of the parts and that the whole can be transposed without change of pattern (Darsono, 1970). During the speaker presentation participants were involved in dialogue with one another, answering questions, and involved in a variety of activities. This was a complete change than a typical speaker who would be going off of power point slides and not well engaged with the audience. The speaker was very involved and allowed free thinking and opportunities to speak up or not participate if the individual did not want to. The speaker discussed Gestalt theory, the use of it in therapy, and her background with Gestalt. She was very insightful and knowledgeable about the topic which made the time fly. After giving insight and information about Gestalt, the speaker engaged the audience with a variety of activities. This allowed most individuals to work together and create things with pipe cleaners all while not verbally communicating with others they were working with. This showed that people tend to just go along with others, a leader is established, and that when more people are involved the less clear a message or design will be. Working alone during this activity, an individual was able to have a clear and obvious ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Affirmative Action And Its Effect On Minority Minorities... Affirmative action is described in sociology as, policies and programs that aim to avoid discrimination and redress past discrimination through the active recruitment of qualified minorities for jobs, promotions, and educational opportunities. (i.e. Exp. Soc., pg 280). In other words, the law was put in place as an attempt to create pluralism in the United States structure of opportunity. When describing affirmative action, the generalized assumption is individuals being handed opportunities based only on their ethnicity. Whether or not that opinion rings through to the majority, consider the events that lead to the enactment of affirmative action in the first place. The structure of opportunity in the United States has always been a biased and unfair in its distribution of opportunities. Since the beginning, the structure of opportunity has always been in favor of whiter, and ultimately wealthier Americans. Segregation, discrimination, and complete disregard for people of different ethnicity and color made it as such. People of color were seen as an inferior, and ultimately poorer group of people than people who were white. In earlier time, a metaphorical "glass ceiling" held back student of different ethnicity from becoming more educated. The "glass ceiling" that held them back for so long was the structure of opportunity being as biased as it is. In essence, the economic conditions, culture, and other aspects of certain people had an impact on how they lived in society. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. The Key Elements Of Educational Opportunity Essay Hammond recognizes this and after presenting her concerns, she postulates that to achieve a greater democracy we must continue to work to "equalize access to educational opportunity"(Hammond 2010) by focusing on "five key elements: Meaningful learning goals...Intelligent reciprocal accountability systems...equitable and adequate resources...Strong professional standards and supports...Schools organized for student and teacher learning." (Hammond 2010). Although well intentioned past federal reforms have neglected to successfully address these important goals. Darling–Hammond does her best to help us understand what policymakers and administrators need to accomplish to create a system that will be successful for the children of our country. She outlines specific issues and attempts to create a plan for moving our system forward backed by research and previously successful systems. Her plan highlighted the need to train, and support more high qualified teachers, design curriculum to promote inquiry and authentic learning environments, and refocus how we hold teachers accountable. Our education system is extremely assessment focused, and although this does provide a mode of keeping teacher 's accountable for their student 's achievement, teachers have no way of keeping policymakers accountable to school district needs. She called for a shift to a professional growth mindset and underlined the need for the government to hold themselves accountable for ensuring that there is an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Educational Budget Cuts: Denying Students the Opportunity... Are today's students being cheated out of the best education possible just to balance the budget? The forthcoming of Pennsylvania relies on the education of the younger generations. Only time can tell whether adolescents, currently being educated, can maintain the high level of learning with the barriers they are going to encounter with the proposed budget. For a positive future in Pennsylvania, the youth must be educated intelligently and properly. Proposed Pennsylvania state educational budget cuts will deny students the opportunity to develop their fullest potential creatively, academically, and socially. Governor Tom Corbett's new budget proposal of 27.3 billion dollars will result in significant cuts for the Commonwealth of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Between teachers being cut, programs being removed, and taxes being increased, the estimate is about $300 million, or 1,500 dollars per student being eliminated by the budget (Jaye). Even the teachers that do not get laid off will have to suffer a freeze on their salaries for one year. By means of the one billion dollar cut in K–12 education, the Philadelphia Area Schools will be impacted the most, since they have the largest school districts in the state. According to Emily Jaye, in addition to the K through 12 cuts, the fourteen–state owned Pennsylvanian Universities' funding programs will be cut in half (Jaye). Along with the previous cuts stated, the higher education cuts could result in increasing tuitions, furloughing teachers, and closing some off–site campuses. Lastly, budget cuts are taking away the opportunities for tutoring programs in school, before–and–after school programs, and summer school (Muska 2). As a result of the education cuts and the effects that come with them, three main categories are going to be impacted for students. The first impact will come in the area of social interactions. A study that was conducted at Michigan State University estimates that 25 million youth participate in sports, and about 20 percent of these participants are in high school programs (Jaye). Other studies have shown that high school athletes have lower rates of alcohol and tobacco use (Voy and Deeter 219). Children, who participate ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. My Experience As A Resident Assistant (UCO) Brigadier General Diana Holland once said, "lead the way you want to be lead, follow the way you want to be followed, and be a team player." This quote really resonates with me because being a leader means also knowing how to be a follower and be a part of something bigger than yourself. I believe that being a leader doesn't always mean being at the front of the line. Being a leader means supporting, encouraging and empowering others to become their own potential. Through my three years at UCO, I have ben able to reflect on the person I was when I enrolled as a freshman and see the immense growth that I have gained from being a student at UCO. The most exciting part is that I know that it is only the beginning. I have had a chance to become very involved on this campus in theses three years and I plan to continue trough to graduation. As, a very dedicated member of The National Organization for Women I aspire to promote change on campus with issues like women's rights, racism, homophobia, LGBT rights and reproductive rights. • 11. College : Is The Juice Worth The Squeeze? College: Is the Juice Worth the Squeeze? Many students face internal battles during their college careers; sleepless nights, studying for exams, constant social issues, and the fear of not having a definitive career path. This all leads to the questions "why am I here"? "What is the true purpose of college?" Many writers have described these struggles in great detail. They feel the reward for overcoming these struggles is intellectual growth. This growth is achieved by challenging themselves, acquiring knowledge in multiple fields, and learning how to become an essential part of society. An effective way for students to achieve intellectual growth is by challenging themselves in several different ways. David Hodge, President of Miami University in Oxford, claims that college is a place for "intellectual collisions" to occur (qtd in "What is"). He emphasizes the notion that college is best served as a time to challenge the mind in several forms. Each student is placed in a competitive learning environment that undoubtedly helps mold teenagers into adults. College isn't easy, and nor should it be. Having professors who refuse to let students skate by allows them to obtain an understanding of what the professional world is like. Outside of college, young adults are unlikely to find an academic setting that is used primarily to enhance their intellectual prowess. The access to interacting with intelligent peers, guidance from experienced professors and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. James Coleman's Equality Of Educational Opportunity The report was so "seismic" – Daniel Patrick Moynihan's word – that Lyndon B. Johnson's administration released it on Fourth of July weekend, 1966, hoping it would not be noticed. But the Coleman Report did disturb various dogmatic slumbers and vested interests. And 50 years on, it is pertinent to today's political debates about class and social mobility. So, let us now praise an insufficiently famous man, sociologist James Coleman, author of the study "Equality of Educational Opportunity." In 1966, postwar liberalism's confidence reached its apogee. From 1938, when the electorate rebuked Franklin Roosevelt for his plan to "pack" the Supreme Court, through 1964, congressional Republicans and conservative Democrats prevented a liberal legislating majority. But Johnson's 44–state victory that year gave Democrats 68 Senate seats and a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Moynihan, then a 37–year–old social scientist in Johnson's Labor Department, presented in "The Negro Family: The Case for National Action" what then counted as shocking news: 23.6 percent of African American births were to unmarried women. Today 71 percent are. Almost 47 percent of all first births are to unmarried women, and a majority of all mothers under 30 are not living with the fathers of their children. The causes of family disintegration remain unclear, but 51 years ago Moynihan and then Coleman foresaw the consequences. Moynihan said the "tangle" of pathologies associated with the absence of fathers produces a continually renewed cohort of inadequately socialized adolescent males. Socializing them is society's urgent business if it is to avoid chaotic neighborhoods and schools where maintaining discipline displaces teaching. Coleman documented how schools are reflections of, rather than cures for, the failure of families to function as the primary transmitters of social ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. Universal Equality Of Educational Opportunity Confidence in the principle of universal equality of educational opportunity is difficult to maintain when one views the breadth of the educational landscape in America. When viewing two schools that fall on opposite sides of the spectrum in nearly every measurable aspect, it is crucial to make sense of where such disparity is founded so that the education system can be altered to better society. One such example of a tremendous educational gap is found in the 3.6 miles that span between the Nashville High Schools Pearl Cohn and Hume Fogg. Pearl Cohn, an entertainment magnet school located in a predominantly African American and poor socioeconomic area, has a 69% graduation rate, whereas Hume Fogg, an academic magnet school with 97% of students proficient in math and/or reading, has only 21% of students classified as economically disadvantaged (). Every similar and contrasting aspect between Pearl Cohn and Hume Fogg, overt and covert, can be viewed in the context the educational inequity birthed from Brown vs. Board and subsequent Brown II decision. Thus, by pairing observations of the two schools with the content discussed in Ogletree's All Deliberate Speed, one can begin to make sense of the large discrepancies seen between the two schools, proof that society, the school and the teacher are interdependent. Before Pearl Cohn and Hume Fogg can be compared, they must be historically placed within the framework of the crucial legislation known as Brown vs. Board and Brown II. ... Ministry Needs For Pastors And Evangelists Ministry needs in India Transportation needs for pastors and evangelists: Many pastors in rural and forest areas take the word of God to surrounding villages and unreached tribal groups by walking many miles a day. Any other mode of transportation would help reach more people in a shorter time. It is very difficult to meet and worship regularly during rainy season and summer. • 19. Persuasive Essay On Progressivist 3A) Personally, my greatest talent or skill would have to be that of a determined progressivist towards impossible perfectionist; simply stating, being a determined progressivist allows me to make assurances of whether my assignments, applications, or any other important task are done towards completion. Whatever obstacle I face on this ever–changing path of life, I always refute the option to give in and fail. Most of those who do face these types of challenges typically give in, quit, and find a more elementary occupation to fulfill what they could have been; however, I had never faced a challenge in which itself had made me stressed to the point of submission and of defeat. Even if the odds are stacked against me, I do not let those odds topple over and convince me to concede. This skill was one that I had to truly develop throughout the entirety of my life. There were countless opportunities and influences that would have pushed towards me to recede and let others take the chance. The reason as to why this skill is truly dear to my own being is due to the fact that the majority of others feel content with what seems to be more simple to complete. This is what sets me apart from everyone else who has the same aspirations likewise to myself. This skill, unfortunately, had always suffered from negligence and had been overshadowed by more pretentious and immediate occupations. Very few students, like myself, had given this valuable skill the light of day and had been quite ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Though these are both valid discussions no one seems to be concerned enough to discover a better way to prevent these arguments. Yes, the government did attempt to create a system that would protect these students, yet, they failed to keep it from going dormant(https://www2.ed.gov/about/offices/list/ocr/docs/hq43ef.html . What, one may ask, are the repercussions of having students that are constantly in a state of competitiveness? One thing that has been a major problem is student attitude. As a student moves through elementary school and into middle it is not hard for them to realize the unneeded separation of classes. The lower class students develop an attitude that is based on "being like the other kids." This attitude then turns from a simple jealous manner to a give up manner. Why would a student try their hardest to only have a teacher keep them at a C level because their clothes do not say polo or Nike? Students see this and their reaction is a direct result of the problems in the equal opportunity act. If students learn that their efforts are not worth anything, a whole generation learns that worthless feeling complex. • 23. Analysis Of James Coleman 's Article On Equality Of... James Coleman is the author of the famous, "Coleman Report". The Coleman Report is an article based on James Coleman's findings in a major study conducted at John Hopkins University. Professor Coleman worked along side others to conduct a study with the goal of resolving the problems of equal educational opportunities. This report was published by the US Government, under the title "Equality of Educational Opportunity". It is noted that the concept of "equality of educational opportunity" has changed drastically over the years. The research conducted used data collected from over 600,000 students and teachers across the U.S. in more than 3,000 schools. The results of this study suggested that academic achievement was more related to the student's sense of control, the verbal skills of teachers, and the students background than being related to the quality of a student's school. The results of this study informed people on how to shape desegregation policies and equalize racial issues in public schools across the U.S. As mentioned, Coleman discusses how the idea of "equality of educational opportunity" has drastically changed. The first stage suggested that all children should be exposed to and taught the same exact curriculum. The second stage suggested that all children will have different futures, so they should be taught a curriculum based on what they will need later in their lives. The third and fourth stages can be seen as being the results of the challenges the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The American Dream promises immigrants and citizens a chance to pursue a better life, which is portrayed throughout the novel Behold the Dreamers . Behold the Dreamers , by Imbolo Mbue, follows the lives of Jende and Neni Jonga, an immigrant couple from Cameroon, who live in Harlem in hopes of providing a better life for their family. Jende and Neni came to America in hopes of a brighter future for their family, but come to face with reality and are forced to make an impossible choice. Americans are taught that the most important essential to achieving success is through hard work, but Jende, as an immigrant, never had the opportunity to be successful no matter how hard he worked. The universities in the urban areas of the big cities have attractive facilities, which promote students to move to the urban areas. They have a highly stander educational system, international purposeful teaching methods, highly professional academic staff and research institutions for postgraduate students. In addition, they have unrestricted academic choices; the students can select exactly what they want to study. For example the University of Glasgow and the all universities in the UK are committed to provide a high quality of education to the students by excellent learning methods and good facilities of research culture (University Strathclyde Glasgow, NA). Moreover, Capello, Olechnicka and Gorzela (2013) suggest that higher learning education activities and scientific research facilities are unequally distributed within countries; the activities are focused more on universities of the big cities. This illustrates that the students will join the highly standard and qualified universities to have their benefits. In addition, the universities in the megacities have enough relaxing areas which help students to relive stress and achieve their educational goals and a big campus with multiple entertainment facilities and multiple uses. Karna and Julin (2015) believe that servicers and facilities in Campus University for students and staff are used to support the main educational gal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Every one of these books are unique, no two share the same story. My book may be torn, damaged by time and pain, but mended by passion. My motivation to become a social worker has been that tape and glue. It sealed every tear, and it gave every hardship a purpose. I faced these misfortunes to learn what darkness is, to be shown my capacity to be the light in other people's lives. My life has led me to social work, it has become my purpose. Educational Opportunity And Economic Inequality Educational Opportunity and Economic Inequality Presently, education and the economy are great concerns in the United States; however, these topics are not mutually exclusive. Many argue that education offers those with low incomes a way to move into the middle or higher classes; others argue that education cannot resolve the problem of economic inequality. Two recent articles address and argue this issue. The first, "Why Education Is Not an Economic Panacea" by John Marsh, was originally published in Marsh 's non–fiction book Class Dismissed: Why We Cannot Teach or Learn Our Way Out of Inequality in 2011 and later appeared in The Chronicle of Higher Education. 'I knew we didn't have the money,' Melissa said. 'I felt like I had no right to ask'" (DeParle). The majority of his article summarizes every major event in the girls' lives that led up to this point in their education, as well as how their stories relate to each other, solidifying both logical and emotional appeals and helping his audience understand and sympathize with the girls' struggles. In contrast, Marsh focuses on his personal experiences as a professor, specifically in the "Odyssey Program," in his effort to evoke sympathy from his readers. In this program, people living at or below 150% of the poverty level and between the ages 18 and 45 could attend night classes for college credit that could be transferred to other colleges in the future. Marsh focuses a little on the individual human aspect of the situation, recalling, "Our valedictorian, a brilliant young African– American woman who had been chosen by her fellow students to represent the class, gave a moving speech, thanking each of the professors individually for their time and describing ... what she had learned from each" ... While most people think college as a waste of time, it is important to remember that the experiences and knowledge acquired by attending college are useful in our daily life and for a better job opportunity. • 41. Equality Of Educational Opportunity By James Coleman Essay The issue of inequality in schools comes in many forms, whether it's the inequality of money given to certain schools, or the issue of students not receiving the same education because of where they come from. Many students drop out of school because they feel they can't continue to achieve, which I feel is awful because everyone deserves to have an education in which they reach their full potential. Today's society is all about trying to make the world equal for everyone, but no one wants to try to implement the changes that would make it a fair world. Students shouldn't have to worry about getting an education based on what their socioeconomic background is, or because of what race they are, but sadly, that's the type of world that occupies the American society and its educational system. The Concept of Equality of Educational Opportunity by James Coleman discusses what Coleman believes to be the disparity between the educational success of lower class students versus middle class students in the American educational system. His arguments are widely controversial, even though they were asked for by the president of the United States. James Banks's The Multicultural Curriculum: Issues, Approaches, and Models take one some of the same ideas of Coleman 's report and extend on the issue of the curriculum being whitewashed and non inclusive towards other ethnicities of students. Personal Statements Describe how you have taken advantage of a significant educational opportunity or worked to overcome an educational barrier you have faced. As far as my knowledge goes, I cannot say that I have an extremely high amount. I constantly struggle with my school work, and I do not have any strong subject. I am not the type of person to be able to pass an exam without studying. For me, I must put effort in everything I do. That is my biggest educational barrier. I consider myself as "average". The problem with me is that I want to go beyond that average standard. I want to exceed the standard expectations. My grades are quite good, as I have almost all A's as well as a 3.83 GPA. When people see this achievement, they tell me, "That is not surprising. You are so smart!" I never answer to their response, because deep down inside, I know that this is far from true. My grades are not from naturally understanding things immediately, but are from working hard, and putting in as much effort as possible. I stay up late every night just to understand the material. While most people complete their assignments and call it a day, I not only complete it, but I always make sure to ask this question, "Do I understand this enough to do this easily on a test?" • 57. Social Transformation Of Women 's Educational... This study examines the social transformation of the women's educational opportunities in the early nineteenth–century America. Although the revolution of women's role in our society has deep roots, this ongoing movement was originated from two major pioneers: Mary Lyon and Catherine Beecher. Their effort in negotiating educational equality has made a considerable impact on the advancement of women's rights in our society. To fight for what was right, these women chose education as their best weapon. The pursuit of independence began with these leaders challenging the society and rejecting the traditional beliefs embedded within. Mutually reinforcing, their work registered significant developments in the academic society. As usually demonstrated, women's responsibilities in the society have been programmed to be limited to domestic household tasks: cleaning, cooking, raising children, social etiquette, sewing, knitting, etc. The goal was to present them as a beautified status symbol. Parents raised their daughters for the same mission; to become a properly adequate as housewives for their partners. As Clifford and Redding explain, "the exposé of education for social control" as a concept makes an important intermediate factor in the relationship between learning experiences and social structures. These societal norms derived from a blend of many factors. Religious prescriptions, civil society expectations, and political barriers drew the contours of gender injustice. Women ... Five Miles Away, A World Apart: One City, Two Schools, and The Story of Educational Opportunity in Modern America, written by James E. Ryan is a story about educational opportunity. It starts off by describing two very different schools in Richmond Virginia that are only about five miles apart from each other. The first school, Freeman High School is a suburban school, while the second school, Thomas Jefferson or "Tee–Jay" High School is a city school. Ryan explains how even after all of the Supreme Court rulings to make schools more integrated and more equal that city and suburban schools are still very unequal and not very integrated. Freeman and Tee Jay schools are a great example of this. Freeman is predominantly white but is becoming more and more diverse. Today, the school is made up of 73% white, 13% African–American, 7% Hispanic, and 6% are Asian. The majority of students in this school come from middle–class families. Tee–Jay is also diverse but is predominantly black. Today, the school's student body is made up of 82% black, 16% white, and 2% are Asian or Hispanic. Most of the students at Tee–Jay High School come from poor families. In this book Ryan goes through the past, present, and future of educational opportunity and specifically goes into how school district lines affect education. We may think that a person who does not work hard enough to do better and accomplish their goals is the reason behind their failures rather than examining the bigger picture. Though I do see the idea behind Kozol's statement, I do not fully agree with it. From my own point of view, I believe that the children in certain schools are given better opportunities to advance more in their careers and educations rather than be purposely trained to be governors. Kids in other schools that do not have the same opportunities are not purposely taught to be task–followers. Children, no matter what part of the city they live in, all have big dreams. All children have dreams to want to do well and have successful, content lives. In a way, I see Kozol's statement as a metaphor for the educational opportunities that children receive. Children who are educated to become governors are given more tools to be successful in their careers while those who are trained to be governed end up having more skills to be successful in their personal lives, or to be "street smart". I find that two social causes for this problem would be lack of funds being incorporated into inner– city schools and lack of outside attention given to this issue. In the first 3–year grace period, they are only requested to repay interests, and then pay off their loans up to 20 years. By the end of 2013, 3.13 million graduates had entered repayment period, and the total balance of outstanding student debt was 16.35 billion RMB, which accounted for around one–third of the total volume. Most notably, the default rate by principal plus interest amount was 4.13% and the ratio of students who defaults is 3.95% in 2013. To be detailed, the default rate of school–based student loans was 9.46% whereas that of home–based student loans was only 0.22% . However, based on loan recovery statistics of 30 provinces, the highest default of home–based student loans went up to 17.46% . Compared to over 30% default rate of some extreme cases in the year of 2004 , the default rate on student loans has declined substantially in recent years, but it remains a significant challenge to sound operation of student–loan schemes. ii. • 69. The Benefits Of Volunteering In The Community Service There is a common misconception that those who volunteer do it as a result of a consequence typically assigned to them as a result of a negative behavior. Many walk into a volunteering experience with low expectations, lacking the motivation to acquire anything from the community service, but soley for the purpose to retain hours to have signed off on a sheet of paper. Generally, expecations upon arrival are low and volunteers walk into the assigned service hoping to do the bare minimum and are constantly looking over at the clock eagerly in hopes of turning hours into minutes. Instead of exhausting most of your energy on pondering how much longer will it be until one can leave, enjoy the opportunity presented to learn and to become a better individual that is alloted through this experience. As a volunteer, if you walks in with the mentality of how unpleaseant they assume the experience to be and how you would much rather be spending their time doing other things, one will truly never acquire anything from the experience itself. We deem many things to be more vital in our day to day lives than to help someone in need whose life will be touched. By coming involved within the community and taking part of changing someone's life for the better you too will find yourself experiencing a drastic change in how you go about life, the way you express yourself, how compassionate you are towards others. Volunteering comes with many benefits such as making an impact in the lives of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 71. My Career And Education Goals What does one do when they find themselves with all the experience in the world, but without credentials to back it up? They're stuck. Sometimes, they 're given advice: "the simple answer is, go back to school." I've struggled with this "simple" answer for more than ten years, and I 've even taken a stab at it myself, once or twice. What I've come to realize is that my educational and career goals aren't necessarily a sequential order of charted events. Instead, they're a marri–go–round of happenstance encounters. In this essay, one will read how various opportunities have ultimately shaped my career and education goals. When I graduated from the University of Colorado Denver (CU Denver) with my Bachelor's Degree in Sociology, I had no ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, due to my efforts, one year after becoming the mail clerk for Admissions, I was offered a new position within Admissions as a Credential Processor. The new job came with a miniscule raise– forty dollars, total. That didn 't matter to me, though, and I was very pleased to have the opportunity to gain more experience. I remained a Credential Processor for five years. It was a job, but it didn 't feel like a career. I was comfortable, but I knew that I wanted more. I didn 't know exactly what I wanted more of, but I decided that going back to school would be a helpful way of figuring that out. The decision to go back to school resulted in my application and acceptance into the Graduate School of Public Affairs at CU Denver. A year later, in 2009, I was still a credential processor, and still without a master's degree. Within the first semester of graduate school, it became apparent that public administration wasn't of any interest to me. Therefore, I decided not to continue in the program. Perhaps the outcome could have been a bit different if I had put forth more effort into researching the intricacies of a public administration degree, or if I 'd known what I truly wanted to be when I 'grew up. ' However, as the saying goes, "when one door closes, another one opens." This is exactly what happened. In April 2014, the opportunity to take on a leadership role in my job presented itself and I jumped in head–first. As ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 73. Graduation Speech : An Incoming Eof ( Educational... As an incoming EOF (Educational Opportunity Found) freshmen attending Rutgers University this fall, I had the mindset that if I did well academically, the transition from high school to college would go by smoothly. Unfortunately, college isn 't that simple. The transition to college is much more complex than people perceive it to be, in my case, it's the most difficult obstacle I've ever encountered. Therefore, my aspiration is to conquer this transitional period as quickly and fluently as possible. When I had to changeover from middle school to high school, I was terrified. I didn 't know what awaited me and how much different things were going to be. It turned out high school was exactly the same, with the exception of the grades being ninth through Twelfth. There was nothing to be worried about. On the other hand, that wouldn 't be the case in college. EOF has opened my eyes to this realization. Being a part of this program has unraveled some difficulties that come with adapting to the transition here at Rutgers, which most likely get me in a predicament. One of these realizations is being present and on time to my classes. In high school I had the habit of constantly being late to school and class without a care in the world. In the beginning, it didn 't seem to be that important, until it came back to bite me. Having my counselor inform me that if I 'm late one last time I wouldn't walk with my senior class. I told myself, "This wasn't going to be the case in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Four Major Accomplishments: Kirsten passed a permanent extension of the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act to guarantee 9/11 sick first responders health coverage. She is prominently known for advocating same–sex marriage as well as her help getting the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy repealed, therefore permitting gay citizens to serve in the military. Gillibrand released her bestselling nonfiction piece, "Off the Sidelines: Raise Your Voice, Change the World", ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I believe her support for the community is especially outlined when she discusses her views on education. Vote–Smart writes, "Kirsten Gillibrand. Issue Position: Expanding Educational Opportunities for Our Children. "Kirsten Gillibrand is committed to reforming No Child Left Behind by providing additional funding for our schools, increasing local control and avoiding the practice of solely teaching to standardized tests. As a mother of two young sons, Congresswoman Gillibrand has been a strong advocate for increasing access to early childhood education programs." Although she may not fully understand every conflict of a black male raised in Brooklyn, she seems to understand that access to education is very important for some of the students who are raised in lower income areas. Furthermore, I would personally support Gillibrand in her next election because she exhibits some of the same values and views as I do, such as being pro choice, and marriage equality. She is also becoming very experienced and she is a good representative of my community. One leadership quality that Gillibrand embodies is the ability to use her personal experiences to help her understand the people. In all of my research it shows that she connects the problems of the people with similar circumstances that she has dealt with in a maternal state. Vote–smart writes, " "Like every parent, Kirsten wants her children to have access to quality schools, well–paid and well–equipped teachers, and a curriculum that prepares students for future challenges." This reveals that she uses her kids to play upon the voters and her likeability. Gillibrands wittiness is a strong leadership quality. She approaches her dilemmas with strong intent and ... • 77. The Curriculum Development And Instructional Delivery... The Superintendent has an obligation to create and evaluate a comprehensive, rigorous, and coherent curricular and instructional district program, even in the current financial situation. The curriculum development and instructional delivery theories being used should be appropriate and up–to–date. Teacher performance must still be assessed. And district technology and information systems should be used to support and monitor student learning. In this case, it is easy to document the new technology put into place with the new referendum. The issue now is with the wiring. Efforts must be made to see what can be done immediately as well as in the long–run. If I were superintendent, I would not be pleased upon hearing of this secret meeting. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Solutions – both short– and long–term – have to be found. I would talk to the administrative board privately. I would discuss my desire for a culture of collaboration and trust and share my disappointment upon hearing of their meeting without me. I would ask that it not happen again. I would tell them that I want to be a part of the solution together with each of them. I would also let them know that the word "spin" is the worst – it has an instant negative connotation. Then, we would get down to business. If I answered the door to the press, I would think before I responded. One must always be careful in the public eye. Care must be taken to think before one speaks, especially on camera. Vigilance is required in public, as, these days, every phone is a camera. I would utilize the opportunity with the local press to address the public. I would bring up our efforts to provide instructional programs that are conducive to student learning with high expectations. I would connect that to our current situation with the wiring and relate how we intend to address it. I would refer to our shared mission to creating an educational environment which enables each student to achieve personal excellence and lifelong learning skills to become a productive and responsible citizen. This would allow me to communicate how we are safeguarding the values of democracy, equity, and diversity within the district. I would explain that, as education leaders, we must seek to ...
