sometimes deadly consequences of the hazing rituals being performed by university and high school

These rituals have affected the life of the people involve in hazing, whether is on the receiving end

With this growth, fraternities and sororities began to compete for students' loyalty and hazing
became a common initiation practice. Those members that served in the military prior to entering a
university introduced more physical challenges to the initiation rites that lead to more physical and
mental injuries.
Hazing now a day starts as young as the middle school level, where the age group varies from
eleven to fourteen years of age. Although most reports at this level are of alleged hazing and mostly
associated with sports, the students at the receiving end are scarred for life. In Kentucky, 6th grade

At the high school level, many stories have made the news and most involve athletes, coaches and
teachers. In Fontana, California, a summer school teacher allegedly instructed some of his students

Gadon (1989). The reason for this is due to Waldron (2012) maintaining a neutral position, while
presenting strong scientific evidence on the subject of hazing. Also, the statistics presented by
Waldron (2012) did not have any "fallacies" when compared to that of Josefowitz and Gadon (1989)
(Fallacies, 2006, More..., para. 1–42). Based upon these differences and how society has changed its
cultural stance on hazing, Waldron (2012) has clearly given the better argument and solution for
stopping hazing. Hence, a further discussion is needed on why hazing remains a controversial

injuries (College). Hazing is a ritual in which harassment, abuse, forceful consumption of alcohol

standard expectation especially when joining a college fraternity or sorority. One's initiation usually
subjects him/her to physical abuse; even though, that physical abuse is a felony in most states.
Although some blame the pledgees for voluntarily putting themselves at risk for detrimental harm,

expulsion for hazing in order to stop abuse and save lives.
Research and empirical evidence indicates an influx of hazing on college campuses which is simply
unacceptable. Research conducted by Cornell University in 2003 reported that only 17% of college
students across the country experienced hazing ("Cornell Research"). The 17% who said to have
been hazed also stated that it was not worth it and the abuse had everlasting mental effects;
moreover, those same people said that hazing must come to an end and that it is a sad excuse to
harm others. On a darker note, research conducted by University of Maine in 2008 recorded
troubling statistics. Their research had shown 55% of students claiming to have been hazed ("Maine

Why Is Hazing Wrong
Across the nation, hazing has been a controversial topic for decades and decades. Hazing is most
popular in college students who are seeking to become a member of a fraternity or sorority. In most
cases, hazing is a humiliating and dangerous initiation ritual. Although legal action has been
implemented in order to eradicate such behavior, not every state has anti–hazing laws. In fact,

Especially in universities, hazing is a common ritual and initiation process for fraternities that does
more harm than good. Both physical and psychological damage is done to not only the victim, but
the family of the victim as well. Unfortunately, universities cover up hazing incidents in order to
protect their reputation as well as the students involved. Although all, but 6 states have anti–hazing
laws, this is not enough to stop fraternities to cease participation and involvement. Since this has
