This document provides information about an Afghan Women's Association in Spain (AWAS). August 2021: According to data by the Inclusion, Social Security and Migrations Ministry, the
country has received more than 3,900 people from Afghanistan since the air lifts began.
Arrival: Expectations and Reality

● Afghans that have been evacuated in Spain are people with different
profile and background from government officials, Engineers, Doctors,
former employees of Spain in Afghanistan, Civil society servants,
Journalists and so on.
● Upon arrival to Spain and being recognized as refugees they have faced
many difficulties and challenges in terms of diverse culture , different
language lack of job market.
● It is not only about giving food and shelter to refugees and migrant
people as human being we have dignity and what we need is a decent job
and decent housing.

This association has been formed with support of Spanish friends (Ignacio Álvaro, Cristina Manzanedo, Clara
Reglero, Carola Martí and Shirin Salehi) and currently a small group of 16 persons Spanish and Afghan women

others have arrived later
through Iran and Pakistan

● Informative workshops on the Spanish reception system and the rights of
refugees.
● Specific workshops aimed at preparing refugee women and their families
to face integration in the country once the first phases (18 months) of
financial support and monitoring by NGOs have been completed.
● To provide advice in the first phases of reception. For example: search for
accommodation, support at children schooling and nursery schools,
contact with lawyers, psychological support, etc.
GOAL 1: Integration of Afghan women, promoting their
involvement and empowering in their own process.

● Facilitating meetings and workshops to promote knowledge of Spanish culture
and society, rights, obligations, and opportunities.
● Facilitate physical and online spaces for the accompaniment and support of
refugee women.
GOAL 2: Create and develop a network that facilitates communication
between Afghan Women

● Promotion of Spanish language classes
● Empowerment of Afghan women and capacity building for job search and
entrepreneurship.
● Support in the homologation of diplomas to facilitate women's access to
university and vocational training.
● Advice on educational and employment opportunities for adults.
● Support in obtaining a driving license.
GOAL 3: Promote the personal, social, professional, emotional, and
family autonomy.

● Promote discussion forums and women's conferences to promote cultural
exchange and the contribution of migrants to society.
● Support in the organization of Afghan cultural celebrations or activities to
facilitate bicultural integration.
● Look for different collaborations with other public and private entities.
● Search for funding to carry out the activities described above.
GOAL 4: Awareness of the situation Afghan women among society and
to serve as a link with the Spanish authorities.
