9. Northern Ireland Portfolio – Expansion into O&M
•
We need to grow out O&M capabilities significantly in the next 2-3 years.
The following areas have been identified as those with supply chain
opportunities:
•
Civils contractor – Both during construction phases and ongoing during
operational phase of the projects
•
Health & Safety consultants to advise on best practice
•
IT/Software – to assist in developing a suite of programs to analyse realtime turbine performance data
•
Remote sensoring technologies (LiDAR) to allow for performance
measurement of spinning assets
•
Technical consultancy services to assist in assessing site
validation/performance verification
•
Communications providers to ensure robust communications with the wind
farms.

Gaelectric Energy Storage

13. Gaelectric Energy Storage – CAES Larne Project
•
Energy storage concept using compressed air as the storage medium, safely stored circ.
600m below ground in excavated salt caverns (formed by solution mining), project is
located 2.5km south of Larne, co. Antrim
•
200MW Compression/268MW generation. Designed to allow a greater penetration of
renewable energy technologies onto the all-Ireland electricity grid.
•
Planning to be submitted in Q2 2014
•
Construction commence in Q4 2015
•
Commissioning in 2017
•
Total investment of £300m over 5 years
•
300 full and part time jobs during construction, 30-50 permanent jobs in the operational
phase.
•
Infrastructure will include:
•
110kV substation
•
CAES plant main building (plant equipment supplier identified)
•
Balance of plant including cooling/noise abatement, fuel delivery & storage
•
Routing and burying of 2 x 500mm diameter pipes from the plant site to the sea. These
pipes will remain a permanent fixture and will be in periodic use throughout the project
lifetime.

• Supply chain opportunities exist in the in the following fields:
• General engineering advisory services both through the
construction phase and into operations
• General construction
• Solution mining & disposal of saturated brine
• Directional drilling/trench excavation for the 2 x 500mm brine
pipes
• Supply and maintenance of pipework through construction and
throughout the life of the project, including:
• Pipework
• Pumping station
• Noise abatement technologies
• HV infrastructure
