6. Legacy
In 1999, Una Clarke received the 2nd highest honor
that a civilian can receive from the Government of
Jamaica, the Commander of the Order of Distinction
(C.D.), for distinguished service for Jamaicans and
Caribbean nationals in North America
In 2001, she became the 1st Caribbean-born woman
to receive the prestigious 2001 Ellis Island Medal of
Honor Award
Remains an outspoken voice for the preservation of
Caribbean history and culture in NYC
