Exploring The Possibilities Of Local Manufacturing And...
This paper will explore the possibilities of local manufacturing and food market reconstitution. Both
topics present the question what is best the future of America? As consumer's we have the
opportunity to bring awareness and doing our part to help boost the local economy with our
purchasing power. Individuals can help progress the economy in their community and overall in the
United States by supporting local manufacturing or purchasing products "Made In USA" and by
buying from local food markets. The environment, health and safety are equally important in
manufacturing and the food market. If we are not concerned with the environment that our products
are manufactured or our food production; this can affect our health and safety. ... Show more content

Mott called the capacity for accomplishment." Mott is involved in funding Virtual Incubation
Network initiative; their initiate is to help reconstitute local economies. 10 out of the 35 community
colleges across the country are using funds from Mott to extend the range of services provided for
the business incubator projects. Mott provided the $995,500 in funding to help geographically
isolated, depressed and hard to serve area community colleges to better understand the potential of
new communication technologies "in spawning and fostering small business development in
response to local market need and niche." (Mott, 2015)
"The idea behind this project is to figure out how we can give an entrepreneur 100 miles away from
the college an equivalent experience to one who is located right here on our campus," said Jim
Shanahan, director of the Entrepreneurship Innovation Institute at Lorain County (Ohio) Community
College (LCCC). It is one of the 10 community colleges taking part in the Virtual Incubation
Network initiative, a project of the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC). How
can a community replenish and support the workforce without reconstituting manufacturing?
Shanahan said "The best approach to sustaining the local economy was to help our entrepreneurs
commercialize good ideas." Since their conception in 2007,

Nike Football: World Cup 2010 South Africa
511–060 Nike Football: World Cup 2010 South Africa Nike Football revenue had grown from $40
million in 1994 to more than $1 billion in 2008. In just under 15 years, it had reached a sales level
that took some of its competitors over 50 years to achieve. Although not the end goal, the 2010
World Cup was another unique moment in time for Nike to create separation between the company
and its competitors. Edwards knew he had to seize this opportunity and pull his team together to
deliver a campaign focused on delivering innovative products and compelling consumer

non–sporting shoes in 1988, with the acquisition of Cole Haan. That same year Nike unveiled their
"Just Do It" marketing campaign that, along with the iconic swoosh, helped define the brand in the
coming years. By 1990 Nike was the leader in sports shoes and apparel, and dominated running,
basketball, tennis and cross–training. In 1995 Nike moved into ice hockey with the purchase of
Canstar Sports. In 1996, Nike golf landed a vastly talented but as–yet unproven golfer named
Eldrick "Tiger" Woods. Nike also began investing in the sport of cycling, including in a promising
young cyclist who appeared to be on his way to success, until he was diagnosed with cancer. He lost
most of his sponsors, but Nike stood by him. In 1999, Lance Armstrong's incredible comeback
resulted in what would be the first of seven consecutive Tour de France titles. Over the years Nike

A Medieval Contest
In comparing and contrasting the Arthurian Legends and J.R.R. Tolkien’s book The
Fellowship of the Ring, it is almost like a medieval contest between the two with many of the
similarities coming from the customs of the Middle Ages. A look at the make up of the groups
involved, the moral code, the protagonist, the antagonist, the use of supernatural elements and the
knightly quest involved in each book shows how alike they are but yet different.
The Arthurian Legends revolve around the life of the knights during the Middle Ages. A knight
would pledge his loyalty to God, his King, fellow knights and to women in distress.

The moral code of the knights of the Round Table which was renewed at the feast of Pentecost every
year was to: “only fight in just cause, at all times to be merciful, at a all times to put the
service of ladies foremost.'; (Malory, p.344.) Sir Gawain’s strength was increased for
three hours every morning but after noon would decrease. Once when in battle with Sir Launcelot to
avenge the death of his two brothers by Sir Launcelot, Sir Launcelot realizes Sir
Gawain’s strength is less so he says to him “Sir Gawain, I have endured
many blows from you but I see that you have weakened'; and then turns to King Arthur and says,
“My liege, your expedition can find no honorable conclusion, so I pray you withdraw
and spare your noble knights'; (Malory, p.373.) showing mercy and fair play.
Frodo Baggins also takes on a moral code as he accepts his role as the Ring Bearer. Hobbits by
nature are fun loving and non–competitive, but Frodo says to Elrond, “I will take the
ring. . .though I do not know the way.'; (Tolkien, p.324) When sitting in the chair of the Guardian
Kings of Gordor at the top of Amon Hen in the Seat of Seeing, Frodo sees the world covered by
Orcs, Lorien in smoke and Borenings’s land on fire and finally sees and feels the Eye

the reuse and recycling of the materials once the products life cycle has come on an end. They are
committed to making the world a better place, another way they do this is by reducing the use of
carbon and promoting the use of carbon.
Best Buy does this for a couple reasons, at the end it is all for the greater good. The company stated
that the devastating droughts, severe storms, rising temperatures effect the communities where they
live and work and they want to prevent this disasters that affects the environment, community and

Abstract
The paper adopts a social benefit–cost analysis framework to look at three stages in the historical
development of management of stakeholder capital of corporations in the Philippines. The first two
stages were government–driven. Stage One is internalization and moderation of some social costs
starting with the Environmental Impact Statement System adopted by the Philippine government
under President Marcos in 1981. Stage Two consists of reforms in the political economy started in ...

In end–2007, intangible assets contributed to 79.4% of market value of corporations. In end–2008,
the contribution was down to 75.4%. Because of the global financial crisis, as of April 5, 2009, this
figure was down to 70.9%. The nearly 10% drop is largely due to loss of stakeholder capital, i.e.

Indian Wedding Rituals And Traditional Rituals
"Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue..." A wedding is a ceremony
of marriage that is celebrated across cultures. It is one of the only rituals that many of the world's
cultures have in common. However, each culture has their own unique traditions when dealing with
marriage. Because India is a more religious nation than the United States, they tend to stick to a
more traditional regimen of rituals and customs. While most weddings in the United States have
developed into more modernized versions of the ancient ceremony, Hindu weddings in India
continue to be very traditional and religious. Weddings are also taken much more seriously in India
than they are in the United States. The Hindu (India's major religious ... Show more content on

It is said to be one of the most enjoyable and extravagant events of the wedding. It is one of the less
serious events of the wedding, and a great chance to have fun and get to know the new family in a
more relaxed setting. The Mehendi ceremony consists of more traditional rituals that are an integral
and exciting part of the pre–wedding. Mehendi is one of the oldest forms of body art. It is a term
derived from the Sanskrit word, 'mendhika' which refers to the henna plant. The bride is covered in
these intricate Mehendi designs, henna tattoos, as part of the Hindus' customary sixteen adornments.
Traditionally, the groom's initial is included somewhere in the detailed designs of florals and paisley
print that adorn the bride. Henna is known for its cooling properties and was originally supposed to
help calm the bride's nerves when applied to her hands and feet. After Mehendi, the bride does not
step out of the house until the next day, when Var Mala begins. Var Mala is a main wedding day
ceremony in which the bride and groom exchange garlands. The groom's friends attempt to prevent
the bride from putting her garland around the groom's neck to tease her, while the bride's friends
help her do the same. Everyone enjoys the tussle between the two wedding parties, and the groom
finally succeeds in his endeavors. This signifies that the bride has accepted the groom as her
husband. After Var Mala, the couple gets blessed by the elders of both families. This is followed by

Climate Justice in the United States
Climate change has been called "the biggest problem of the 21st century" by many scientists and
government officials alike. Many classes at the university level cover some aspect of this complex
and multifaceted problem. From the human rights that are at risk due to rising sea levels and food
shortages to the environmental, geographical, and intergenerational inequities resulting from
increasing greenhouse gas emissions; climate change is a serious and complex issue with little
agreement on how to solve it. In this paper, I will analyze the impacts of climate change in the
country that contributes most to the problem: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This may not sound like much, but when one considers that the global temperature during the last
Ice Age 7,000 years ago was only 5 or 6 degrees Celsius colder than it is today, then the numbers are
pretty frightening (Freese). Sea level rise is another area of concern for scientists and the global
community with respect to climate change. Since the beginning of the Industrial Revolution, the sea
level has risen about 8 in. and continues to rise about 0.14 in. per year (National Climate
Association). IPCC has predicted a sea level rise of 1m. (~3.3 ft.) by the end of this century
(O'Rourke), putting small island nations such as the Maldives and at risk of losing their land, as well
as cities in the US such as Miami, New Orleans, and New York. Once again, this number may seem
insignificant, but when one considers that approximately 5 million people live within 4 ft. of the
high tide areas in the United States; and 1 in 10 persons live in low lying coastal areas around the
globe, then the numbers illustrate cause for great concern. An estimated 634 million people will be
impacted by rising sea levels (Greenfieldboyce) and 1 billion people could be displaced from their
homes by 2050 as a result of climate change (O'Rourke).
With a $2.2 trillion economy, California has the 7th largest economy in the world. California makes
more money from agriculture than any other state in the US, totaling $50 billion in profit in 2013.

The Progress of Human Rights Reform in Turkey Essay
The Progress of Human Rights Reform in Turkey
Throughout the last half–century of American politics, the Presidents of the United States have been
more susceptible to public attack and scorn than ever before in our history. Through events such as
Nixon's Watergate, Clinton's impeachment, and the Bush wars the public has voiced scathing
criticism of our national leaders without fear of personal harm. People in America know that they
can openly criticize anyone and anything in our country including our president or the pillars of our
country's history like Abraham Lincoln, Thomas Jefferson, or even our first president George
Washington.

Ataturk was a domineering, former general for the Ottoman Empire before its collapse following
World War One.[iii]? He realized the only way to organize the new nation was to westernize it in an
attempt to ward off initial criticism from European nations.[iv]? The 1920?s and 30?s were filled
with widespread reforms, such as separating Islam from the government and literacy campaigns, in
an effort to secularize Turkey and strengthen the Turkish government and people.[v]? Ataturk
wanted to abolish religion as the cord that fastened all of society together, and instead chose to make
Turkish nationalism the cornerstone on which he would build a country.[vi]? However, he also
ushered in a lack of democracy, repression of the Kurds, and a heavy reliance on the military, and
laid the foundation for similar patterns and human rights abuses to continue throughout the nation?s
history.[vii]? Ataturk promised he would make Turkey a nation for all, explicitly including Kurds,
but it would not take long before riots began over unjust treatment of Kurds throughout Turkey.? As
a result, Kurdish culture was banned from Turkish society, and Kurdish leaders were executed one
after another.? Moreover, ?The decades in between the 1930?s to the 1980?s, [were] covered by a
blanket of silence? as troops, police, and prisons lined the southeast, Kurdish portion of Turkey
where foreign travelers were prohibited.[viii]? In fact, the Turkish government even refused to admit

The Is The Second Most Used Electoral System
FPTP is the second most used electoral system worldwide, and in the UK it is used primarily in
general elections to reach a fully representative, democratic electoral system. In assessing whether
we should scrap FPTP, we must first establish what an electoral system ought to provide. The
purpose of an electoral system in the UK is to fairly elect representatives for the population to make
up an effective government, as we operate with a system of representative democracy. For an ideal
democracy to function, an electoral system that delivers a strong constituency link, genuine voter
choice, an effective government is fundamental. It is also important for a system to operate simply
and with transparency for the population. As Tom Stoppard once wrote, "It's not the voting that's
democracy; it's the counting."
These factors are examined through the lenses of proportional representation and accountability, as
supporters of FPTP essentially disagree on whether accountability or proportionality is more
necessary in attaining democracy. FPTP is the system which provides the highest level of
accountability of those used in the UK, and therefore, it is the least proportional system. A strong
constituency link is important in a fully representative, democratic electoral system because it
allows the population to be properly represented by their local MP. On the whole, the FPTP system
does enable an effective constituency link between an elected MP and their constituents, as every

The Responsibility Of Political Parties
When we think of political parties, our minds automatically link with the popular two: The
Republican party and the Democratic party. These two parties have made a reputation for
themselves. Being the top two, people often forget that there are other platforms aiming for the
coveted role of presidency. Some of these other platforms include the Libertarian party and the
Green party. The Green party, in particular, is one of the newest and smallest parties. In this past
election, people were not as familiar or educated on the Green party as they were on the other
parties, therefore, people assumed it would be a waste to vote for the Green party candidate, Jill
Stein. The Green party was founded on four pillars: peace, ecology, democracy, and ... Show more

The first idea would be to reduce the work week hours from 40+ hours to 35 hours a week. This is
estimated to create 26 million new jobs. Another idea would be to financially support renewable
energy sources. Renewable energy sources employ at least 2x as many people as fossil fuels or
nuclear sources. By subsidizing them, it gives them a chance in cost competition ("Economic Justice
& Sustainability"). Unlike the Republican party and the Democratic party, the Green party is the
infant of political platforms. People are afraid to waste their vote on a second–choice party.
Unfortunately, this is a fact. Green party candidates that ran for president, House of Representatives,
and the Senate have never earned a seat. Due to this, there is barely any proof that the Green party
economic ideas would work off paper. Despite this, the Green party is pushing on and campaigning
hard for their chance to change

six key aspects of EBM
Table of Contents Introduction Ecosystem–based management (EBM) is a great tool to protect not
only the environment, but to do it in a way that is not detrimental to humans or the economy.
Traditional environmental movements have for the most part been a failure since they advanced the
environment at the expense of the economy and of humans. However, we cannot continue in this
same manner or else we will live in a world that is too polluted to live in. One of the greatest minds,
Stephen Hawking stated, "We are in danger of destroying ourselves by our greed and stupidity. We
cannot remain looking inwards at ourselves on a small and increasingly polluted and overcrowded
planet". EBM is an approach that helps protect the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As well if there is a great push to save the environment at the expense of the economy then it would
be great for the planet but leave humanity poorer. Solutions must be found that save the environment
and not harm the economy. Adopting EBM Great Barrier Reef. Australia has adopted EBM to
protect its coral reefs. As well it uses EBM to regulate the fish populations. It has gone further than
any other country in enshrining EBM principles into law (McShane, Broadhurst, and Williams,
2007). The Great Barrier Reef in Australia is one of the great natural heritage sights not just in
Australia but in the world. It is taking the right approach in protecting this great natural wonder.
Olsson, Folke, and Hughes, (2008) reported, "The transformation process was induced by increased
pressure on the Great Barrier Reef from terrestrial runoff, over–harvesting, and global warming that
triggered a new sense of urgency to address these challenges". It is unfortunate that change did not
occur until the danger to the reef reached a critical status, but the Australian government moved fast
and the reef is in much better shape now. Arctic. Canada and The United States have joined forces in
adopting EBM together with their joint responsibility of protecting the Arctic. Once again this
example has to do with a marine system the Arctic Ocean. "The ecosystem approach has also been
developed nationally, with EBM initiatives undertaken as part

Examples Of Diversity In Political Parties
Many Americans know of the dominant Democratic and Republican parties when talking about
politics. Few may know of the many diverse parties that have and still do grace American soil. The
diversity of political parties may seem confusing to some, but when examined closely, is a prime
example of what America stands for, the right to choose. Some may argue that the American
political system does not exemplify the Constitutional right to choose despite its many choices in
political practices. However, others may argue that the diversity in political choice and practice–

The Importance Of Living At Ohio University
Ohio University is ranked as the second largest party school in the state of Ohio. In spite of this fact,
I found myself shadowing a close friend of mine at Ohio University, Friday and Saturday night.
While in high school, I had always considered choosing a larger university over a community
college. However, I have always preferred smaller class sizes and could not imagine myself living
apart from my parents at the young age of 18. Although I had my doubts about Ohio University, I
now realize why students prefer being in large classes, living on campus, and living independently.
As soon as I pulled into the large brick campus, apprehension rushed through my body.
Immediately, insecure thoughts sat in the back of my head, "What if Sydney ... Show more content

Unfortunately, I was only able to meet her for a maximum of five minutes. Sophia's personality is

I began looking at how their room was set up. To my surprise, the dorm room was not as pint–sized
as I suspected it to be. For example, Sydney had a colorful, beach themed, queen size bed in the left
corner of the room and Sophia had a wooden sophisticated bunk bed in the right corner of the room.
One of the reasons I chose not to live on campus was for the reason I did not want to share a room
with someone I have never met beforehand; furthermore, I did not want to share a runty compact
space. Whereas now, I know I would have enough of my own space.
Eventually, Sydney and I started to walk to her four o'clock Math lecture with Dr. Hoyt. For me, this
was what I had anticipated the most. I commute to college every day, besides the weekend, and
wanted to see how far her classes were going to be. To my surprise, Sydney and I had to walk up
only three flights of metal stairs and it took approximately six minutes to walk to the correct
hallway. I was making my way to the class, as I observed kelly green, Ohio University, activity

'Sustainability'
The Brundtland report (named after Dr Gro Harlem Brundtland, the youngest person and first
women ever to hold the office of Prime Minister of Norway, who spearheaded the initiative which
ultimately led to the earth Summit in 1992), published in 1987 by the United Nation's World

"Natural Capitalism" is another crucial component of sustainability. Maria Stamas, analyst at Rocky
Mountain Institute (an American organization dedicated to sustainability, working with more than 80
fortune 500 companies) and strong proponent of Natural Capitalism explains the principles behind
the concept, "Natural Capitalism is about productive use of resources, biomimicry (modeling
manufacturing process on biological ones), reinvesting in natural capital (business and government
should invest in sustainable agriculture), and service based economy. People want hot showers and
cold beer; they don't care about how these services are produced. In other words it is not essential
that we use fossil fuels to create the showers and drinks. Instead we can create more efficient
processes and use renewable energy technologies to power them. The Kyoto Protocol, a set of
international courtesy rules introduced at the Earth Summit in 1992, was one of the biggest steps
taken in the direction towards reducing carbon emissions in industrialized countries. This protocol
aimed at a five – pronged approach: commitment (towards reduction of greenhouse gases),
implementation (of clean mechanisms), minimizing impact (on developing countries), integrity

Impact Of The World Trade Organization ( Wto ) On The...
Few environmentalists have positive things to say on the impact of the World Trade Organization
(WTO) on the environment. WTO legal obligations are frequently cited as the most significant
impediment to a range of environmental initiatives, including notably meaningful international
coordination to combat climate change, particularly through carbon tax initiatives, and imposition of
electronic waste disposal export bans. In this vein, adverse findings of WTO dispute panels on
environmental conservation measures tend to attract the ire of international civil society. The
tensions between liberal trade and environmental protection can be traced back to the days of the
General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) of 1947, which pre–dated the WTO. Under the
GATT 1947, trade and environment disputes tended to be resolved through diplomatic channels. The
WTO Agreements were intended to provide a more predictable and legalistic means by which to
resolve such disputes, in exchange for deeper commitments on domestic regulation, a domain
historically deemed off limits to international disciplines. Two of these agreements in particular, the
Agreement on Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT Agreement) and the Agreement on Sanitary and
Phytosanitary Measures (SPS Agreement), introduced binding disciplines with serious implications
for domestic environmental decision–making, a subset of domestic regulation. The expectation was
that the depolitization of WTO disputes would afford more

Energy Resource: Coal and Solar Energy Essay
Can you imagine not being able to plug your cell phone in to charge, or use the microwave, or turn
on any lights? These would all not be possible without electricity. Electricity can be produced in
many ways. Two ways are through coal and solar energy. The way these two energy sources are
produced and the effects they have on the environment are very different but they are both used to
produce electricity. Coal is one the fossil fuels in this world. There are four main types of coal.
Anthracite, bituminous, sub bituminous, and lignite. Anthracite has 86–97% carbon. It accounts for
0.5% of the coal mined here in the United States. All the mines that have Anthracite in it are located
in North–eastern Pennsylvania. (New Century Coal, 2013) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In surface mines it is open cut or opencast mining. In underground mining it is room or pillar mining
or long wall mining. The tools used during surface mining are draglines which remove over burden,
power shovels, large trucks for transport and excavators. (World Coal Association, 2013) The cost of
coal is one of the cheapest forms of energy. Coal is expected by many to remain the most affordable.
According to IEA statistics coal is 7% cheaper than gas and 19% cheaper than nuclear. The cost of
coal varies on the type of transaction. In 2009 the price of coal was $33.24 per ton. The delivery
price to power plants was $44.47 per ton. The transportation cost of coal is $11.23 per ton. (World
Coal Association, 2013)
Coal is formed from the remains of plant vegetation. The way that coal gets its energy is from
carbon. It formed millions of years ago, and the process of coal is a continuing process. (World Coal
Association, 2013)
Coal is used for thermal conditions. Coal is mainly used for power generation. Coal is used in steel
production. Not only is coal used in steel production, but everyday life things such as soap, aspirins,
dyes, and plastics. (World Coal Association, 2013)
Coal is converted into energy by it being mined and then taken to a power plant. The coal gets
burned and the steam goes into turbines and the steam turns the turbines. The spinning blades make
it go through a generator and then energy is produced. (World Coal Association, 2013)

At its most basic level, the green economy is the clean energy economy, consisting primarily of four
sectors: renewable energy (e.g. solar, wind, geothermal); green building and energy efficiency
technology; energy–efficient infrastructure and transportation; and recycling and waste–to–energy. 1
The green economy is not just about the ability to produce clean energy, but also technologies that
allow cleaner production processes, as well as the growing market for products which consume less
energy, from fluorescent lightbulbs to organic and locally produced food. Thus, it might include
products, processes, and services that reduce environmental impact or improve natural resource use.

On the horizontal axis, businesses move from those that produce green products, such as
manufacturers and food processors, to those that sell green products or participate in the green
lifestyle economy, such as farmer's markets and local park maintenance operators.
Production industries produce goods that can be exported and imported between regions. Lifestyle
or consumption businesses are local–serving only. Business categories located in the middle of the
horizontal axis contain both production and consumption aspects. Within the green economy,
businesses interact with and are influenced by the government agencies, universities, non–profit

Analysis Of Nashville By Tiana Clark
Nashville "Nashville" by Tiana Clark was published in 2017 and details the experience of a black
women through first person during present time and how her life as a black woman relates back
strongly to the civil rights movement of the 1960's. The speaker is a woman who is married to a
white man and that is chasing someone who said a racial slur to her on the streets. She talks about
how the civil rights movement happened and how it changed but how history repeats itself in a way
that racism is still around today. The poem ends with her trying to come with peace with finding out
who said the racial slur so she can get over it and move on. Racism has been around a long time.

In the fourth stanza, Clark uses imagery to talk about segregation. She also uses the simile, "I–40
bisected the black community like a tourniquet of concrete," which means they cut off the flow of
traffic and really segregated the black community from everything else. Also in this stanza, the
violence of the 60's was shown through the imagery of the lines stating, "Ambulance siren driving
over the house that called 911, diminishing howl in the distance, black bodies going straight to the
morgue." Violence on innocent black people happened daily and this quote shows that. Stanza five
also shows imagery by saying, "At the downtown library, a continuous loop flashes SNCC videos
with black and white kids training for spit and circular cigarette burns as the video toggles from
coaching to counters covered in pillars of salt and pie and soda–magma of the movement.". The
phrase "continuous loop flashes SNCC videos" is a use of imagery. Also in this stanza, and the first
line of stanza six, the author's words have a deeper meaning then on the surface. The lines talk about
the tolerance of the blacks. "Counters covered in pillars of salt and pie and soda–magma of the
movement." This is a synecdoche which this line represents the lunch sit–ins put on by the SNCC.

The Concept Of Corporate Social Responsibility Essay
Abstract–
Starting from the times of trade system to today's modern time of plastic money, undeniably
"profitability" has always been the attraction and an idea behind all this growth; but as every coin
has two sides; growing massive competition and business competitions started taking heavy
compensation on the quality, transparency, environment, business and society. The corporates started
understanding that they would have to rise over and above the profitability and take care of all those
related with their survival in the society directly or indirectly. This understanding is the result of the
concept of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). This report is to understand of key concepts,
principles of CSR, business ethics, corporate governance, and social responsible investing by the
two case study of the TATA Group under Mr. Ratan Tata and Malcom Rands with their ethical
behavior with the concept of CSR.
1. Introduction
The concept of CSR was initiated in the 1950's in USA but it became established in early 1970's.
That time USA was facings social problems like Poverty, pollution and unemployment, also the
huge fall in prices of Dollar. During 1980's to 2000, corporations recognised and started accepting a
responsibility towards society. Corporate social responsibility (CSR) is to focuses on the wealth
creation for the optimal benefit of all stakeholders – including employees, shareholders,

Essay about New Social Movements, how they arose and...
What factors account for the rise of new social movements and what effect have they had on
contemporary society?
We are all familiar with the stories of suffragettes burning their bras, and environmental enthusiasts
breaking into labs and liberating rats back to the wild. But what caused women to abruptly rip of
their pinnies, tell dad dinner's in the dog and start running around without appropriate underwear?
What caused contented homemakers to leave the cosy warmth of their gas fires in favour of chaining
themselves to trees?
And are such people an eccentric minority, or have they profoundly affected the way we live and
think in the western world today?
To address these questions I will begin by defining New Social Movements (or ... Show more

The tactical characteristic is the aspect which sets social movements apart from other forms of
political action.
'All movements engage in at least some action outside of the institutional or legal channels of
political access.' (Lovenduski and Norris, 1996).
There is a diverse range of NSMs fighting for causes from the environment to women to the elderly
to the blacks. For the purposes of this essay I will inspect only a couple in detail, but it should be
retained that they are examples of a bigger wave.
Two of the best known movements are the environmental or 'Green' movement, and the Women's
movement. Both have evolved over the past hundred years into strong and extremely influential
political leagues. Both have the ideological aspect, wanting to change the general public's approach
to their respective causes – the environment and equality between sexes. They also have the
organisational factor, with now impressive and far reaching channels of communication. And finally
they have the tactical factor, having utilized many different methods of expressing and arguing their
opinions.
The Green movement has distinct personal and public fields, campaigning for specific issues such as
pollution, renewable energy sources while also questioning the basic values of a developed
industrial society which assumes

Merchant Shipping Activities Remain The Pillar Of Global...
1. Introduction
According to the OECD (2012) merchant shipping activities remain the pillar of global trade, with
more than 80% of international cargo transported via sea. Throughout history, maritime activities
have played a vital role in shaping the world, from fishing, to the transport of people during the age
of discovery, as well as global trade. With world trade growth being the core driving force behind
maritime trade, other factors include; institutional and technological factors, freedom of trade, as
well as China's participation in the global economy (World Ocean Review n.d.). As shipping is a
derived demand, developments in maritime transport are thus shaped by global macroeconomic
trends. The biggest problem in shipping is the ability to forecast long term freight rates, and current
tools such as generalized autoagressive conditional heteroskedasticity (GARCH) are often aimed at
short term correlation. GARCH is an approach which helps describe market volatility (Investopedia
n.d.). Freight rates essentially drive the shipping industry in terms of fleet size, and are often a good
indication of the strength or weakness of the shipping market. The volatile state of the current
market means the accurate need for forecasting and keeping up to date with trends is imperative.
This report aims to provide an overview of current trends in merchant shipping.

As a fellow Canadian, I am concerned about the environment in this country. We, humans, destroy
this beautiful environment more each day without any guilt within ourselves. I am writing to you to
explain in simple terms that we must take responsibility of our environment. The main issue that I

The Liberal party built four pillars; pricing carbon pollution; to reduce emissions in each sector of
the economy; adapting to climate change; and supporting clean technologies, innovation, and jobs.
According to reports, the Paris agreement was a wake–up call to the country. Canada has not met its
2020 climate commitments and sooner or later 2030 as well. From the gap between now and the
2030 target the Pan– Canadian Framework and the Canadian government should work hard to
reduce its emissions as quickly as possible. An example of this would be reducing methane
emissions from oil and gas since methane is a potent greenhouse gas it can make a significant effect
on reducing the effect of climate change (Marshall, 2017). To keep in touch with the changes, we
must report regularly on the progress and assess how programs that reduce carbon emissions are
performing. The federal government must work harder to implement the climate policies and to
ensure that the government is on track. Also, to reduce carbon emissions under the framework, you
have created a low carbon economy to fulfill the g20 commitments and to protect communities from
climate change.
By reducing greenhouse gas emissions and enhancing clean technology in North America it makes
the foundation of our economy stronger. Clean technology is what delivers benefits to our
environment and for our economy. By adjusting the Canadian expenses of tax deduction the liberals

This Paper Offers A Critical Reflection And Analysis Of
This paper offers a critical reflection and analysis of my genogram. My family consists of two
completely different families thrown together who coexist together without much intermingling.
When viewed as one unit, I would describe my family as a loose knit, hardworking, Black middle–
class, southern, Christian family. I use the term loose knit because my family is not close at all. We
can go months without talking to or seeing each other and there is nothing wrong with that. There
have been many times I have been in conversation with family friends and find out information
about my family because we do not interact with family members often. The anchor that each of us
is close to is our mother, Sandra Smith–Graves.

Another southern custom in my family is the unspoken expectation that nothing or nobody comes
before family. Though we are distant as a family when our family is involved everything else
becomes secondary. The last custom that my family places a huge emphasis on is the honoring and
respect for elders.
The last way I want to describe my family is as Christian. All of my family members are practicing
Christians. My father's side of the family has traditionally been Baptist, while my mother's side of
the family has deep roots in the African Methodist Episcopal Church. Through doing this
assignment, I found out that my maternal grandfather was an AME pastor. Church has always been a
pillar of my family. As children, we had no choice but to attend church because it is what our
parents felt was best for us.
Now that I have offered analysis and reflection on the extended family field of my family system on
a macro level, I want to provide a microscopic look as it relates to individuals and individual
relationships within my family system. As previously mentioned my family tends to have a level of
homeostasis that is comfortable with distance and long periods of not interacting. This does not
mean we do not love each other; we are just comfortable loving at a distance. This is connected to
one of our unspoken rules and expectations, which is do not feel bad if I do not call you or interact
with you regularly. This unspoken

Deceptive Accounting and the Global Financial Crisis
Deceptive Accounting and the Global Financial Crisis Name Course Tutor Date Introduction As
with other disciplines, all personnel in the accounting profession ought to uphold high standards of
professional ethics. All firms ought to conduct their affairs with due regard to the welfare of the
parties involved, the economy, and the interests of the public in general. As such, auditors and
accountants ought to be ambassadors of transparency and accountability and their conduct must
indicate as much. In the wake of the housing bubble, the integrity of the accounting profession came
into question amid claims by observers that key professional services firms such as Deloitte Touché,
PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), KPMG, and Ernst & Young were colluding with their client firms
to perpetuate 'deceptive accounting' in a way that the financial position of the client–firm appeared
more stable and progressive. This helped the global financial crisis along. Amid the crisis, world
economies tanked causing the fall of major economic giants. The unprecedented collapse of Lehman
Brothers, American International Group (AIG), General Motors, WorldCom, Enron, Fannie Mae and

A Report On Early Spring Planting
Early spring planting is a great way to enjoy an abundance of early produce that normally wouldn 't
be available until the late spring or early summer. Many smaller gardens can be started indoors with
setups as simple as a few herb seeds in a windowsill planter or as complex as a multi–light
hydroponic system. One of the most common mistakes that happen with starting your spring garden
indoors is stating too early. Conditions must be timed exactly right so that as the indoor plant
becomes ready for transplanting to a full bed, the conditions outside will at least allow transplanting
the now grown seedlings to cold frames. Once the weather turns and the last frost has gone, the cold
frames are removed and the plants will be well on there way to a quick spring start. This can give
you the chance in some areas to allow for two or even three growing seasons throughout the year.
Simple systems and complex indoor growing operations all have one thing in common; they need
light. Without sunlight through a windowsill or high powered light bulbs, plants just won 't grow. In
fact very few organisms can survive without sunlight, and those that do live in the sea or caves. A
good source of light is crucial to the success of starting your spring garden indoors. When starting
from seeds, you 'll need to germinate them first. Most seeds can be started in simple containers like
paper cups, but some prefer peat cups or biodegradable cups. The choice doesn 't matter so long as
they are

The Impact Of Green Supply Chain Management On Industry,...
Green Supply Chain Management
In Automotive Production
Stephanie C. Soutier
College of Charleston
Abstract
This paper investigates the impact of green supply chain management on industry, consumer
perception and environment. Through research into multiple companies and case studies, a distorted
perception among large corporations shows a historic struggle to find a balance between profit and
sustainability. However, the potential long–term effects of the lack of environmental courtesy cannot
be undone and therefore must be carefully engineered. Multi–billion dollar automotive corporations
such as Hyundai and Toyota will be discussed and studied in depth to conclude the innovative

Green Supply Chain Management
In Efficient Business Practices
The automotive industry changed the way that Americans purchased products when cars became an
affordable luxury in the early 19th century. Not only did cars drastically reduce travel in daily life,
they provided a gateway of possibilities for expanding business beyond carriage or foot travel. Due
to the mass production assembly line strategy implemented by Henry Ford, cars could be produced
quickly and efficiently. This dramatic shift in production dropped prices to the affordable level for
the average American, which led to the establishment of buying on credit. The automotive industry
provides economic growth and convenience in America and throughout the world – but this amenity
comes at a great price to the environment. Throughout the entire life cycle of an automobile, carbon
emissions and waste are produced. Although most believe that automobiles creates only carbon
emissions when in use, the process begins negatively contributing to the environment long before
and long after the life of the car. Additionally, the understanding and research related to carbon
emissions from the use of gasoline–powered cars has provided consumers with an awareness of their
effect on the environment. For some, this realization has prompted conservatory measures in vehicle
use, utilizing public

Social Justice
Political Philosophy

Social Justice What is social justice? Social Justice can mean something different depending on who
you are talking to. The most common definition of social justice is a policy–making theory that tries
to ensure that all members of society are treated fairly and that all have the same opportunities to
partake of and share in the benefits of society. This could mean the end of discrimination based on
sex, race, creed, ethnicity, or income. Another form of social justice could be equality through fair
taxation and the distribution of wealth, resources, and property. It could also mean equal access to
education and job placement for everybody. I believe that social justice is all of these things. In this

are denying people a human right as basic as the air we breathe." Such protests exemplify the
confrontations that come up when governments debate the unequal distribution of resources such as
water, food, oil, and wood".(Social Justice) These debates are exacerbated by the fact that most
natural resources are held by industrialized nations in the Northern Hemisphere, while developing
countries of the Third World are lacking.
Karl Marx thought along this line as well. In the opening chapter of the communist manifesto Marx
says, "The history of all hitherto existing societies is the history of class struggles. Freeman and
slave, patrician and plebeian, lord and serf, guild–master and journeyman, in a word, oppressor and
oppressed, stood in constant opposition to one another, carried on an uninterrupted, now hidden,
now open fight, a fight that each time ended, either in a revolutionary re–constitution of society at
large, or in the common ruin of the contending classes". Marx is talking about the struggle between
what he calls the bourgeoisie and the proletarians. Marx argues that the bourgeoisie are the haves in
the society, owning and controlling the means of production. The proletarians are the working class
who represent the have–nots, "...who live only so long as they find work, and who find work only so
long as their labor increases capital".(Marx Communist Manifesto)
Marx argues that it is capitalists who create this disparity between the two classes of

Mott provided the $995,500 in funding to help geographically isolated, depressed and hard to serve area community colleges to better understand the potential of new communication technologies "in spawning and fostering small business development in response to local market need and niche." (Mott, 2015) "The idea behind this project is to figure out how we can give an entrepreneur 100 miles away from the college an equivalent experience to one who is located right here on our campus," said Jim Shanahan, director of the Entrepreneurship Innovation Institute at Lorain County (Ohio) Community College (LCCC). It is one of the 10 community colleges taking part in the Virtual Incubation Network initiative, a project of the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC). In just under 15 years, it had reached a sales level that took some of its competitors over 50 years to achieve. Although not the end goal, the 2010 World Cup was another unique moment in time for Nike to create separation between the company and its competitors. Edwards knew he had to seize this opportunity and pull his team together to deliver a campaign focused on delivering innovative products and compelling consumer experiences. Nike expanded into sports outside of running, including basketball–with the first Air Jordan's, a shoe designed for basketball star Michael Jordan– in 1985, and cross training in 1987. The company expanded into apparel in 1986, and expanded into non–sporting shoes in 1988, with the acquisition of Cole Haan. That same year Nike unveiled their "Just Do It" marketing campaign that, along with the iconic swoosh, helped define the brand in the coming years. By 1990 Nike was the leader in sports shoes and apparel, and dominated running, basketball, tennis and cross–training. In 1995 Nike moved into ice hockey with the purchase of Canstar Sports. In 1996, Nike golf landed a vastly talented but as–yet unproven golfer named Eldrick "Tiger" Woods. Nike also began investing in the sport of cycling, including in a promising young cyclist who appeared to be on his way to success, until he was diagnosed with cancer. Tolkien’s book The Fellowship of the Ring, it is almost like a medieval contest between the two with many of the similarities coming from the customs of the Middle Ages. A look at the make up of the groups involved, the moral code, the protagonist, the antagonist, the use of supernatural elements and the knightly quest involved in each book shows how alike they are but yet different. Once when in battle with Sir Launcelot to avenge the death of his two brothers by Sir Launcelot, Sir Launcelot realizes Sir Gawain’s strength is less so he says to him “Sir Gawain, I have endured many blows from you but I see that you have weakened'; and then turns to King Arthur and says, “My liege, your expedition can find no honorable conclusion, so I pray you withdraw and spare your noble knights'; (Malory, p.373.) showing mercy and fair play. Frodo Baggins also takes on a moral code as he accepts his role as the Ring Bearer. • 12. Indian Wedding Rituals And Traditional Rituals "Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue..." A wedding is a ceremony of marriage that is celebrated across cultures. It is one of the only rituals that many of the world's cultures have in common. However, each culture has their own unique traditions when dealing with marriage. Because India is a more religious nation than the United States, they tend to stick to a more traditional regimen of rituals and customs. While most weddings in the United States have developed into more modernized versions of the ancient ceremony, Hindu weddings in India continue to be very traditional and religious. Weddings are also taken much more seriously in India than they are in the United States. The Hindu (India's major religious ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Mehendi ceremony consists of more traditional rituals that are an integral and exciting part of the pre–wedding. Mehendi is one of the oldest forms of body art. It is a term derived from the Sanskrit word, 'mendhika' which refers to the henna plant. The bride is covered in these intricate Mehendi designs, henna tattoos, as part of the Hindus' customary sixteen adornments. Traditionally, the groom's initial is included somewhere in the detailed designs of florals and paisley print that adorn the bride. Henna is known for its cooling properties and was originally supposed to help calm the bride's nerves when applied to her hands and feet. After Mehendi, the bride does not step out of the house until the next day, when Var Mala begins. Var Mala is a main wedding day ceremony in which the bride and groom exchange garlands. The groom's friends attempt to prevent the bride from putting her garland around the groom's neck to tease her, while the bride's friends help her do the same. Everyone enjoys the tussle between the two wedding parties, and the groom finally succeeds in his endeavors. This signifies that the bride has accepted the groom as her husband. Essay On Climate Justice Molly Culton Dara O'Rourke/Laney Siegner 103 Environmental Justice 16 April 2015 Climate Justice in the United States Climate change has been called "the biggest problem of the 21st century" by many scientists and government officials alike. Many classes at the university level cover some aspect of this complex and multifaceted problem. From the human rights that are at risk due to rising sea levels and food shortages to the environmental, geographical, and intergenerational inequities resulting from increasing greenhouse gas emissions; climate change is a serious and complex issue with little agreement on how to solve it. This may not sound like much, but when one considers that the global temperature during the last Ice Age 7,000 years ago was only 5 or 6 degrees Celsius colder than it is today, then the numbers are pretty frightening (Freese). Sea level rise is another area of concern for scientists and the global community with respect to climate change. Since the beginning of the Industrial Revolution, the sea level has risen about 8 in. and continues to rise about 0.14 in. per year (National Climate Association). IPCC has predicted a sea level rise of 1m. (~3.3 ft.) by the end of this century (O'Rourke), putting small island nations such as the Maldives and at risk of losing their land, as well as cities in the US such as Miami, New Orleans, and New York. Once again, this number may seem insignificant, but when one considers that approximately 5 million people live within 4 ft. of the high tide areas in the United States; and 1 in 10 persons live in low lying coastal areas around the globe, then the numbers illustrate cause for great concern. An estimated 634 million people will be impacted by rising sea levels (Greenfieldboyce) and 1 billion people could be displaced from their homes by 2050 as a result of climate change (O'Rourke). The Is The Second Most Used Electoral System FPTP is the second most used electoral system worldwide, and in the UK it is used primarily in general elections to reach a fully representative, democratic electoral system. In assessing whether we should scrap FPTP, we must first establish what an electoral system ought to provide. The purpose of an electoral system in the UK is to fairly elect representatives for the population to make up an effective government, as we operate with a system of representative democracy. For an ideal democracy to function, an electoral system that delivers a strong constituency link, genuine voter choice, an effective government is fundamental. It is also important for a system to operate simply and with transparency for the population. As Tom Stoppard once wrote, "It's not the voting that's democracy; it's the counting." These factors are examined through the lenses of proportional representation and accountability, as supporters of FPTP essentially disagree on whether accountability or proportionality is more necessary in attaining democracy. FPTP is the system which provides the highest level of accountability of those used in the UK, and therefore, it is the least proportional system. A strong constituency link is important in a fully representative, democratic electoral system because it allows the population to be properly represented by their local MP. On the whole, the FPTP system does enable an effective constituency link between an elected MP and their constituents, as every ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As well it uses EBM to regulate the fish populations. It has gone further than any other country in enshrining EBM principles into law (McShane, Broadhurst, and Williams, 2007). The Great Barrier Reef in Australia is one of the great natural heritage sights not just in Australia but in the world. It is taking the right approach in protecting this great natural wonder. Olsson, Folke, and Hughes, (2008) reported, "The transformation process was induced by increased pressure on the Great Barrier Reef from terrestrial runoff, over–harvesting, and global warming that triggered a new sense of urgency to address these challenges". It is unfortunate that change did not occur until the danger to the reef reached a critical status, but the Australian government moved fast and the reef is in much better shape now. Arctic. • 38. Impact Of The World Trade Organization ( Wto ) On The... Few environmentalists have positive things to say on the impact of the World Trade Organization (WTO) on the environment. WTO legal obligations are frequently cited as the most significant impediment to a range of environmental initiatives, including notably meaningful international coordination to combat climate change, particularly through carbon tax initiatives, and imposition of electronic waste disposal export bans. In this vein, adverse findings of WTO dispute panels on environmental conservation measures tend to attract the ire of international civil society. The tensions between liberal trade and environmental protection can be traced back to the days of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) of 1947, which pre–dated the WTO. Under the GATT 1947, trade and environment disputes tended to be resolved through diplomatic channels. The WTO Agreements were intended to provide a more predictable and legalistic means by which to resolve such disputes, in exchange for deeper commitments on domestic regulation, a domain historically deemed off limits to international disciplines. Two of these agreements in particular, the Agreement on Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT Agreement) and the Agreement on Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures (SPS Agreement), introduced binding disciplines with serious implications for domestic environmental decision–making, a subset of domestic regulation. The corporates started understanding that they would have to rise over and above the profitability and take care of all those related with their survival in the society directly or indirectly. This understanding is the result of the concept of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). This report is to understand of key concepts, principles of CSR, business ethics, corporate governance, and social responsible investing by the two case study of the TATA Group under Mr. Ratan Tata and Malcom Rands with their ethical behavior with the concept of CSR. 1. • 48. Essay about New Social Movements, how they arose and... What factors account for the rise of new social movements and what effect have they had on contemporary society? We are all familiar with the stories of suffragettes burning their bras, and environmental enthusiasts breaking into labs and liberating rats back to the wild. But what caused women to abruptly rip of their pinnies, tell dad dinner's in the dog and start running around without appropriate underwear? What caused contented homemakers to leave the cosy warmth of their gas fires in favour of chaining themselves to trees? And are such people an eccentric minority, or have they profoundly affected the way we live and think in the western world today? To address these questions I will begin by defining New Social Movements (or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These must successfully organise strong turnouts for activities, exchange information and show solidarity. The stronger the networks the stronger the movement The tactical characteristic is the aspect which sets social movements apart from other forms of political action. 'All movements engage in at least some action outside of the institutional or legal channels of political access.' (Lovenduski and Norris, 1996). There is a diverse range of NSMs fighting for causes from the environment to women to the elderly to the blacks. For the purposes of this essay I will inspect only a couple in detail, but it should be retained that they are examples of a bigger wave. Two of the best known movements are the environmental or 'Green' movement, and the Women's movement. Both have evolved over the past hundred years into strong and extremely influential political leagues. Both have the ideological aspect, wanting to change the general public's approach to their respective causes – the environment and equality between sexes. They also have the organisational factor, with now impressive and far reaching channels of communication. And finally they have the tactical factor, having utilized many different methods of expressing and arguing their opinions. The Green movement has distinct personal and public fields, campaigning for specific issues such as

  • 51. Merchant Shipping Activities Remain The Pillar Of Global... 1. Introduction According to the OECD (2012) merchant shipping activities remain the pillar of global trade, with more than 80% of international cargo transported via sea. Throughout history, maritime activities have played a vital role in shaping the world, from fishing, to the transport of people during the age of discovery, as well as global trade. With world trade growth being the core driving force behind maritime trade, other factors include; institutional and technological factors, freedom of trade, as well as China's participation in the global economy (World Ocean Review n.d.). As shipping is a derived demand, developments in maritime transport are thus shaped by global macroeconomic trends. The biggest problem in shipping is the ability to forecast long term freight rates, and current tools such as generalized autoagressive conditional heteroskedasticity (GARCH) are often aimed at short term correlation. GARCH is an approach which helps describe market volatility (Investopedia n.d.). Freight rates essentially drive the shipping industry in terms of fleet size, and are often a good indication of the strength or weakness of the shipping market. The volatile state of the current market means the accurate need for forecasting and keeping up to date with trends is imperative. This report aims to provide an overview of current trends in merchant shipping. 2. Ownership 2.1 Flags of convenience and the largest ship owning countries Panama – with a population of just ... As a fellow Canadian, I am concerned about the environment in this country. We, humans, destroy this beautiful environment more each day without any guilt within ourselves. I am writing to you to explain in simple terms that we must take responsibility of our environment. The main issue that I would like to address to you about is climate change and other environmental problems. Climate change is any significant change like temperature, precipitation or wind patterns in the measures of climate that last for an extended period over several decades through ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Liberal party built four pillars; pricing carbon pollution; to reduce emissions in each sector of the economy; adapting to climate change; and supporting clean technologies, innovation, and jobs. According to reports, the Paris agreement was a wake–up call to the country. Canada has not met its 2020 climate commitments and sooner or later 2030 as well. From the gap between now and the 2030 target the Pan– Canadian Framework and the Canadian government should work hard to reduce its emissions as quickly as possible. An example of this would be reducing methane emissions from oil and gas since methane is a potent greenhouse gas it can make a significant effect on reducing the effect of climate change (Marshall, 2017). To keep in touch with the changes, we must report regularly on the progress and assess how programs that reduce carbon emissions are performing. The federal government must work harder to implement the climate policies and to ensure that the government is on track. Also, to reduce carbon emissions under the framework, you have created a low carbon economy to fulfill the g20 commitments and to protect communities from climate change. By reducing greenhouse gas emissions and enhancing clean technology in North America it makes the foundation of our economy stronger. Clean technology is what delivers benefits to our environment and for our economy. By adjusting the Canadian expenses of tax deduction the liberals can redirect their ... My family consists of two completely different families thrown together who coexist together without much intermingling. When viewed as one unit, I would describe my family as a loose knit, hardworking, Black middle– class, southern, Christian family. I use the term loose knit because my family is not close at all. We can go months without talking to or seeing each other and there is nothing wrong with that. There have been many times I have been in conversation with family friends and find out information about my family because we do not interact with family members often. Another southern custom in my family is the unspoken expectation that nothing or nobody comes before family. Though we are distant as a family when our family is involved everything else becomes secondary. The last custom that my family places a huge emphasis on is the honoring and respect for elders. The last way I want to describe my family is as Christian. All of my family members are practicing Christians. My father's side of the family has traditionally been Baptist, while my mother's side of the family has deep roots in the African Methodist Episcopal Church. Through doing this assignment, I found out that my maternal grandfather was an AME pastor. Church has always been a pillar of my family. As children, we had no choice but to attend church because it is what our parents felt was best for us. Now that I have offered analysis and reflection on the extended family field of my family system on a macro level, I want to provide a microscopic look as it relates to individuals and individual relationships within my family system. As previously mentioned my family tends to have a level of homeostasis that is comfortable with distance and long periods of not interacting. This does not mean we do not love each other; we are just comfortable loving at a distance. This is connected to one of our unspoken rules and expectations, which is do not feel bad if I do not call you or interact with you regularly. This unspoken ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Deceptive Accounting and the Global Financial Crisis Deceptive Accounting and the Global Financial Crisis Name Course Tutor Date Introduction As with other disciplines, all personnel in the accounting profession ought to uphold high standards of professional ethics. All firms ought to conduct their affairs with due regard to the welfare of the parties involved, the economy, and the interests of the public in general. As such, auditors and accountants ought to be ambassadors of transparency and accountability and their conduct must indicate as much. In the wake of the housing bubble, the integrity of the accounting profession came into question amid claims by observers that key professional services firms such as Deloitte Touché, PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), KPMG, and Ernst & Young were colluding with their client firms to perpetuate 'deceptive accounting' in a way that the financial position of the client–firm appeared more stable and progressive. This helped the global financial crisis along. Amid the crisis, world economies tanked causing the fall of major economic giants. The unprecedented collapse of Lehman Brothers, American International Group (AIG), General Motors, WorldCom, Enron, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac nearly took the global economy down with it. • 71. A Report On Early Spring Planting Early spring planting is a great way to enjoy an abundance of early produce that normally wouldn 't be available until the late spring or early summer. Many smaller gardens can be started indoors with setups as simple as a few herb seeds in a windowsill planter or as complex as a multi–light hydroponic system. One of the most common mistakes that happen with starting your spring garden indoors is stating too early. Conditions must be timed exactly right so that as the indoor plant becomes ready for transplanting to a full bed, the conditions outside will at least allow transplanting the now grown seedlings to cold frames. Once the weather turns and the last frost has gone, the cold frames are removed and the plants will be well on there way to a quick spring start. This can give you the chance in some areas to allow for two or even three growing seasons throughout the year. Simple systems and complex indoor growing operations all have one thing in common; they need light. Without sunlight through a windowsill or high powered light bulbs, plants just won 't grow. In fact very few organisms can survive without sunlight, and those that do live in the sea or caves. A good source of light is crucial to the success of starting your spring garden indoors. When starting from seeds, you 'll need to germinate them first. Most seeds can be started in simple containers like paper cups, but some prefer peat cups or biodegradable cups. Not only did cars drastically reduce travel in daily life, they provided a gateway of possibilities for expanding business beyond carriage or foot travel. Due to the mass production assembly line strategy implemented by Henry Ford, cars could be produced quickly and efficiently. This dramatic shift in production dropped prices to the affordable level for the average American, which led to the establishment of buying on credit. The automotive industry provides economic growth and convenience in America and throughout the world – but this amenity comes at a great price to the environment. Throughout the entire life cycle of an automobile, carbon emissions and waste are produced. The most common definition of social justice is a policy–making theory that tries to ensure that all members of society are treated fairly and that all have the same opportunities to partake of and share in the benefits of society. This could mean the end of discrimination based on sex, race, creed, ethnicity, or income. Such protests exemplify the confrontations that come up when governments debate the unequal distribution of resources such as water, food, oil, and wood".(Social Justice) These debates are exacerbated by the fact that most natural resources are held by industrialized nations in the Northern Hemisphere, while developing countries of the Third World are lacking. Karl Marx thought along this line as well. In the opening chapter of the communist manifesto Marx says, "The history of all hitherto existing societies is the history of class struggles. Freeman and slave, patrician and plebeian, lord and serf, guild–master and journeyman, in a word, oppressor and oppressed, stood in constant opposition to one another, carried on an uninterrupted, now hidden, now open fight, a fight that each time ended, either in a revolutionary re–constitution of society at large, or in the common ruin of the contending classes". Marx is talking about the struggle between what he calls the bourgeoisie and the proletarians. Marx argues that the bourgeoisie are the haves in the society, owning and controlling the means of production. The proletarians are the working class who represent the have–nots, "...who live only so long as they find work, and who find work only so long as their labor increases capital".(Marx Communist Manifesto) Marx argues that it is capitalists who create this disparity between the two classes of ...
