Analysis Of Dance Of The Flaming Coke
The second art visit of the semester was looking at a piece that was done over fifty years ago. The
piece of artwork that I chose was called "Dance of the Flaming Coke" done by Eugene W. Smith.
Eugene. This piece is a gelatin silver print (photographic print). The print had a publishing date of
1955 to 1956 and is part of the Tweed Museum collection. Eugene Smith was born in Wichita,
Kansas in the year 1918, and began his photography career in his teenage years working for two
newspaper companies. Smith later attended Notre Dame University, but left within a year to New
York City. He studied at the New York Institute of Photography and later worked for Newsweek.
Eugene was later part of island–hopping in the Pacific during World War II, where he was injured.
After recovery, he worked for Life and later became the president of the Photo League (1949). He
continued his photography career and later taught at the University of Arizona. He only taught for
about a year; he died in 1978 due to a stroke. Many of his pieces are kept together at the Center for
Creative Photography in Tucson. His legacy also lives because of the Eugene Smith Fund, which
promotes humanistic photography. When looking at the form of the piece, it is a black and white

The Gleaners Essay
The Gleaners was painted in 1857 by French painter Jean–Francois Millet, during the Realism
movement. The painting depicts the austere image of three women collecting stray wheat left on the
field after a harvest. Millet, considered the founder of 19th century peasant painting, drew attention
to a contemporary phenomenon, the painstaking but dignified labor of peasants. Flaming June is
quite the opposite of the Gleaners in theme, style and mood. Produced by Victorian artist Sir

In this regard, both paintings depict women differently. In The Gleaners, the women are depicted
realistically in a very austere and dignified manner. The women are in the very down–to–earth
setting of a farming field that Millet illustrates in a golden haze and adds realistic details such as
haystacks, sheaves of wheat, a cart and a busy crowd of harvesters. The peasant women also look
sensible, with their dark skin, patched clothing and hair covered in caps. This reflects the women's

Take the first rule, Worst–Case Scenario, this story sets up an incompetent mother being left with
her helpless children in an old hunting cabin, in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by panthers,
while the father must go back into the city. The first part of the story leads the reader to believe that
when the father does return that the mother and children will be dead either by the panthers or due to
her incompetence. The second rule, The Dance of the Flaming Chain Saws, comes into effect with
the father leaving, the mother handles the first day just fine. On the second day the mother falls and
cracks her head open. The older son debates walking to town but cannot because of the panthers and
the fact that the younger son cannot take care of the mother, also he is scared that she will die. The
mother with the help of the older son manages to make it to the bed. She must remain awake all
night or she might not wake up at all. The next day the father is supposed to be back by noon but

In the novel the father and son's relationship is emphasized, centralizing love is critical. One night
the boy dreams of a penguin that "nobody had wound . . . up", the penguin symbolizes man's
creations taking over and getting out of control which caused the catastrophic apocalypse (36). It

Individualism In This Side Of Paradise
F. Scott Fitzgerald went from being a nobody to becoming the "daring symbol of the Jazz Age"
when his novel This Side of Paradise was published in 1919. Fitzgerald shows what life was like
during the Jazz Age and post–World War I through the eyes of Amory, a teenager who has just come
back from the war and has started his journey inspired by his generation's new dream for wealth and
prosperity ("This Side"). His book inspired many young people to pursue the flaming youth of the

Rationale For the revision assignment I decided to revise my New Testament paper because I
received my lowest grade on this paper. In my original paper Dr. Flaming made many suggestions
