Media And Broad Casting Mass Media
For a long time, people receive news on the printed source such as newspaper, magazine which published by newspaper company or publishing
company. A little while a go, people got another news source which are radio and television. Most country start with public broad casting and while
later, the radio or television company established and start broadcasting own programs. Both literary media and broad casting mass media are mostly
driven by big company and each of those company has own political stance or sponsor and those factor heavily reflected to the articles or programs
they published. Back in the days, these biased article provide versatility to individual issues. For example the press called Partisan Press which has
clear political bias and it attracted the different group of people.(Sikka, Week4 Lecture) The issue now publish and broadcast media is lack of
versatility by concentration of the ownership. Consequence of the capitalism society, many of the company which produce news bought by bigger
powerful company and it end up with under around 10 company are owning media nowadays and this concentration of media ownership leads to the
lack of versatility.(Lorimer, 249) After the internet technology available to the public, the issue of versatility starts to solve gradually by individual's
blog or the rapid rising of micro–blog service use such as "Twitter". The characteristic of the internet that it differ from old media, individual able to be

Media In Mass Media
Introduction
In more recent years, the mass media has begun to play a huge part in how the general public's view on the world and how they receive their news.
When mass media was first introduced, it shared news alongside the main conveyer – print, but with the growth of social media and the web, news has
taken a technological turn. When it comes to sharing any form of news, it has become more common for people to check the internet using their phones.
Mass media platforms like radio, television and the internet have the advantage of fast and constant updates and the ability to share photos and videos
at the click of a button. In the spreading the news of terrorist attacks, the mass media used these outlets in their best interest. ... Show more content on

This concert was broadcasted live across television, radio and social media. It proved to those trying to merge fear into everyday life that it was not
going to work. The week before, the mass media was filled with footage from the bombing, where at the time we saw the fear in people, through those
that were at the arena and those that were turning to social media for aid to find those still missing but those that had attended the concert and survived
were given free tickets to the One Love Manchester concert and this showed that the attack did not scare them out of entering an arena again.
Reporting on terrorism
"Framing is the term used by the researchers to refer to how an event in a particular news story is portrayed... The most common frames used by the
media from centre are associating Islam/Muslim with terrorism". (Sultan, 2016). More often than not when there is a terrorist attack, those who
carry out the crime do not survive. When a large attack is carried out like a bombing or a shooting, it is instantly labelled as a terrorist attack. This is
due to framing portrayal from the media because they know the words 'terrorism' or 'terrorist' are alarming words to the public. Even more attracting
are those words linked with the words 'Muslim' or 'Islam'. The Oxford English Dictionary defines terrorism as "The unlawful

The Importance Of Mass Media
Everyone's comprehension is different and unique in reality. When a person receives a message from mass media, he tells the message which is from
mass media to another person. These two people understand what does this message means; however, they may have different comprehension of this
message. People can think about each message and analyze a message in a different way because they have their own idea. For example, when
people do a survey for a film, some people may think this film is very good; some people may think it is not very good, and the other people may think
it is a bad film. Hence, people can give their different or same common in the same survey. People cannot judge their idea is right or wrong. In reality,

As Eco says, in reality, people can accept the basic codes, but they have their own idea and understanding about a same message. People cannot totally
trust mass media because of relying on mass media too much could be dangerous. According to Mead (1929: 135) "We do so intimately identify
our experiences, especially our affective experiences, with the self that it takes a moment's abstraction to realize that pain and pleasure can be there
without being the experience of the self," this implies that people have a different understanding of a same message because everyone has different
experiences. People have different experiences because of the obvious regional and cultural differences. For example, people accept different
education, so their knowledge level is different. When two people, which have a different level of knowledge receives a same message from mass
media, they will have different understanding of message. Hence, mess media cannot totally influence people's decisions and outcomes. According to
Pariser (2011:6) "Now you get the result that Google's algorithm suggests is best for you in particular–and

The Propaganda Model Of The Mass Media
Throughout society, the mass media constantly changes over time. The mass media play a prominent role in informing the public about what occurs
within the world, especially in areas which audiences do not acquire direct experience and knowledge. This essay will argue that the propaganda
model is no longer valid as it has become outdated. This essay will also discuss the model in relation to the five filters and draw on Rampton's critique
of the propaganda model in contemporary society.
The propaganda model was developed by Edward Herman and Noam Chomsky in 1988. The propaganda model was published in the book of
Manufacturing Consent, sought to provide an analytical framework that attempts to explain the behavioral and performance of the mass media in the
United States (Herman, 2000). Herman and Chomsky (2002) argued that the propaganda model contains five filters which determine what is 'news'.
The first filter is the size, ownership, and profit orientation of the media, which refers to the cooperation between the mainstream media and the large
conglomerate. The second filter is advertising, which refers to the mass media using advertising as the central source of income. The third filter is
sourcing, which refers to the mass media dependency of information from the government, business and experts. The fourth filter is "flak", which refers
to the negative response that discipline the media. The fifth filter is anti–communism, which refers to the control mechanism of the

The Influences Of Mass Media On Society
The Influences of Mass Media on Society
For the greater majority of the American society, the presence of mass media is
a "normal" part of everyday lives. With the purpose of mass media being to educate,
entertain and inform, the excessive violence, self imaging, and lack of full detail on
world events, is having negative influences and unhealthy impacts on society.
As early as the 1920s, a form of the media has been present in the American society.
Although broadcasted content was limited and not as popular as present day, for
some homes, it was a source of entertainment and information "From 1921 to 1924,
there were only 500 licensed media radio stations. By the 1940s (1930–1940), at least
83% of homes possessed a radio"(Smith, 2014,paragraph 2&3, Radio: The Internet of
the 1930 's). The negativity of certain broadcasting posed as a concern, even in the
early years. As Smith explained, "But the new technology also raised anxieties.
Observers worried about the propriety and taste of the radio programs that would
penetrate the sanctity of the home"(Smith, 2014,paragraph 2&3, Radio: The Internet
of the 1930 's).

Mass Media Communication
Definition
Mass media is a media intended for a large audience. It may take the form of broadcast media, as in the case of television and radio, or print media,
like newspapers and magazines. Internet media can also attain mass media status, and many media outlets maintain a web presence to take advantage
of the ready availability of Internet in many regions of the world. Some people also refer to it as the "mainstream media," referencing the fact that it
tends to stick to prominent stories which will be of interest to a general audience, sometimes ignoring controversial breaking news. Many people
around the world rely on this form of media for news and entertainment, and globally, it is a huge industry. People often think ofmass media ... Show

Negative effects of Mass Media for teenagers, The exposure of sex images and excessive portraits of violence in movies and dramas have instilled
negative thoughts and taboos in the mind of these teenagers for they have been consistently getting increased exposure to things which are not suitable
for their age. Thousands of advertisements on junk food, fast food, soft–drink, etc are shown on TV and heard over radio have indirectly lead to the
grown of obesity and anorexia in teenagers. This is one of the critical global problem of today which is threatening our next generations for being
unhealthy and being exposed to many serious diseases and sicknesses such as diabetes, high blood pressure, heart problem and anorexia.
Women are obsessive with losing weight even if they are not being fat or obese. This is due to the influence of the media in portraying that successful
women are always thin. Many teenagers, especially girls were greatly influenced with the slim figure of their favorite celebrity. As a results, some of
these teenage fans were so deep into the dieting and slimming concerns which lead them to severe health issues and fatal death in serious situation.

waves, and pictures. Over 55 million newspapers are circulated each day. There are over five radios per household, and it is estimated that radio
reaches 77 percent of people over the age of 12 every day. The radio listening time for those over 12 is more than three hours each day. Most
households also have two or more television sets, with a total viewing time of about seven hours per day. The amount of time that people spend in
front of their television sets varies with age, gender, and education, but on average it amounts to three to four hours a day.

The Consequences Of Media Bias In The Mass Media
Everyday we go through life with the same rituals that we have come accustomed We repeat these daily cycles so often and never realize why we
do the things we do, or the reason behind them. We bring up the subject of Media Bias and at most times it seems as if it is an abstract concept. We
do not usually see the blindfold that is held over our eyes while we are presented with the news about the world, our neighborhood, and our cities. In
my opinion, Media Bias is just a preference automatically set for us based upon many qualities that the viewer audience tend to share. I will provide
evidence that shows that we are all victims of Media Bias and that it constantly effects our lives even if we don't know it. Society has a tendency to
think that a social issue doesn't have much importance until it hits us personally. "A person exposed to a persuasive communication in themass media
sees this as having a greater effect on others than on himself or herself" (Eveland, 2003, pg. 117). This statement proves that people rarely disrupts
their daily routines because they believe media tactics aren't directed solely to them. We often feel like we are "above" whatever situation is currently
being played out by the media, but we all still fall short when it comes to getting past it. There are times when the news will give out information
pointed towards a specific group that many not have much widespread significance, but they will still report it because they feel that the message

Reporters are one type of journalist. They create reports as a profession for broadcast or publication in mass media such as newspapers, television,
radio, magazines, documentary film, and the Internet. Reporters find sources for their work, their reports can be either spoken or written, and they are

regularly in newspapers or magazines.

In the past years there have been some cases of kids carrying a gun at school and even hurting others with it. Those kids have been linked to excessive
use of violent video games and war images.
Another problem is that real war is used as a form of entertainment by the media, we should make our kids and teen aware that war is not a form of

Mass Media In The Media
Mass media is a large part of what the population consumes and identifies with; the fact that so much of life is influenced by the media is
unhealthy especially considering how some of its messages are inherently sinister, and reach a worldwide audience. It has the ability to progress or
devolve a society of people with the imagery it chooses to display. In the documentary, 'Miss Representation' by Siebel Newsom, the point is raised
"The media is selling young people the idea that girls' and women's value lies in their youth, beauty, and sexuality and not in their capacity as leaders.
Boys learn that their success is tied to dominance, power, and aggression. We must value people as wholehuman beings, not gendered stereotypes"
(2011, Siebel Newsom). Infantilization, hypersexualization and dehumanization/objectification of women are epidemics that spread throughout the
media to a point where it is rare, and jarring, to see a woman represented without those things. To contrast, men are often portrayed as powerful and/or
of a high status. They are allowed to age and given permission to be given genuinely human traits and characteristics. This can severely impact the
mindsets and behaviours of the individuals who consume these images. When young women and girls are subjected to these images hundreds of times
a day for years, side effects include low self–esteem, eating disorders, and self–objectification.

Socialization Of Mass Media
The mass media participates in this hegemonic process in the way it reveals the social status and economic class. The mainstream news media often
commends the prosperity and values of the dominant class and weakens the dignity of the working people. This happens largely through the corporate
monopolization and can be seen through analyzing the dominant ideologies of consumerism, competition and democracy within modern society.
Preserving control over people's minds is a fundamental element of the political power required to maintain the capitalist economic system. Herman
and Chomsky provide a "propaganda model" that can be used as an agenda to further examine how the media serves the ends of a dominant elite. The
consumer culture is one of the primary forms of domination and can often interfere with our identities in destructive ways. Companies use the media as
a system of communication to increase commodity consumption in order to generate profit for capitalists. Mainstream news media are profit driven
businesses owned by corporations and are largely funded by advertisers. Advertising was a significant innovative expansion that influenced the
formation of the consumer. "The goal of advertisers was to aggressively shape consumer desires and create value in commodities by imbuing them with
the power to transform the consumer into a more desirable person" (C. Colaguori, 2013, p.173). When linking values to commodities, advertisers are
implanting insecurities and fears

Mass Media Bias And Its Effect On The Media
Having control over an entire country's population's opinion is a powerful thing to have. Possessing that control would allow you to direct how the
population spends their money or even who they like and dislike in politics. The mainstream media news outlets have this control and are expected to
give us information that is unbiased, fair, and not meant to sway our opinion. The topic I will be exploring is bias in the mainstream news media and
how it effects their viewers. This is an important topic in the field of communication because it has such a great impact on any country that uses mass
media to disseminate information. The information can be given to the viewers with a certain twist to intentionally shape their view of an event,
or it can be unintentionally bias just by the tone and manner they are reporting on the event. I am going to research how mass media news outlets
influence the viewers opinion, and what goes in to picking the news stories covered. These are controversial topics to get into, but important to
consider. They can have a very big impact on things like elections for a political office, support or dislike of a certain group, or can sway your opinion
of who is the hero in a certain story. My sources will need to show specific examples of how the media is biased towards one opinion, what the
effects are from this are, and who makes the determines the bias that is being displayed.

Mass Media And The Media
The fear of crime is one of the most lasting outcomes of a crime–ridden society. Crime, deviance, delinquency and other social problems have always
been a staple of newspaper accounts, television news shows and crime dramas. The majority of the population relies on the news media as the main
source of information and the basis on which they form their opinions and voting decisions. Knowledge of these events is secondhand, filtered through
the media graphically and textually, thus appearing immediate, shocking, entertaining and informative. In today's society the media has become our
firsthand experience for our source of information, opinion, and news about the world. While there is some debate as to how much influence the media
actually has, there is some evidence to suggest there is some connection. The controversial topic between mass media and the fear of crime can be
explained by the influential aspects of the media, moral panics of crime and the fear of victimization.
Furthermore because the media is such an integral part of our lives, it generates a great deal of popular interest and debate, especially regarding
controversial topics. However, defining "fear of crime" has generated some controversy where no single agreed–upon definition exists (Heath, 2012).
The aspect of media and the fear of crime can be controversial because the media will always take the side of a story that is more profitable even
though they may know that it is not the correct side to take in

Media Used In Mass Media
Many people in the mass media industry have used their platform in very different ways. The ways people have used them , do vary because some
mass media influencers use their platform for good and some use it for bad. For example, In the Brian Williams case he used it for bad because he
lied to the people that looked up to him, or people that watched the news. Another example would be when Jorge Ramos was kicked out of the press
room for asking difficult question to Donald Trump, but in this case it was different because he used mass media for good because he was asking
these questions for the people and for them to know, what was going on. Because if not then who is going to ask them. Brian Williams used his
platform in a bad way because he lied to people which initially caused him to lose his job. He lied to people saying that he was there in the helicopter
during the Iraq invasion. He clearly just wanted to make himself look good in front of the public eye , so he made himself the hero of the story when
he was obviously not. Jones states "that is why much of America, including myself, is having a hard time understanding how NBC news anchor Brian
Williams could possibly have "misremembered" whether he was actually aboard a Chinook helicopter forced down by rocket fire during the Iraq
invasion in 2003. Especially when there were multiple witnesses around to remind him of the truth of what happened that day". This shows that even

The World of Mass Media
The world of Mass Media is a complicated place as told by former TV and Radio reporter, Al Meyers. "You never know what you're going to be doing,
but then there's the ability to be able to do it and to share that with the people who are listening." Meyers, who is retired, gave me the pleasure of
sitting down and talking to me about the world of Mass Media Communication, then and now.
Most of what we hear about in the world today comes to us as it is broadcasted through the television news networking stations and the Radio

Media workers need to have social skills, and the ability to talk to people. It is one of the many ways in which a reporter finds out what is going on.
They need to be able to present the news in a clear concise way that is easy for listeners to interpret and understand. "You need to have an eye and an
ear for 'the story' and a desire to capture the latest news," says Al, "The process behind establishing what is published and what isn't wholly depends on
what is relevant for people in the community to know."
The training involved in becoming a reporter deals especially with developing a person's social skill, and their ability to use their curiosity to get
information out of people, even when they are reluctant to give it. Interaction with people is important because as a Media worker you have to be
able to work together with a group of people in order to make all aspects of a story fit together. "Television news requires a thirst for getting the
scoop, and it also requires energy and ambition. News reporters have to have the ability to write and speak in a way that makes people think. Meyer
tells about his personal experience in a situation where he could not understand what it was that another television reporter what talking about, "It was

Mass Media On Teenagers
The media has a strong influence on teenagers since they are mentally vulnerable and have access to various media especially visual and social. It is
imperative for parents to filter the content that teenagers have access. This paper seeks to find out the effects of media on teenagers. Mass media has
both negative and positive influences, and I strive to prove this claim.
Online media and television have given teenagers access to health education on various diseases such as STDs, acne, and depression. The programs
help the adolescents to dispel any myths about health care. Health organizations such as MayoClinic have confidential sites where teenagers are given a
platform to ask any question without being judged. Youths who suffer from chronic conditions such as diabetes, asthma and skin ailments can join
networks that provide support and the best method to handle their health.
Television also has the potential to create negative and positive impacts. Although not all television programs are immoral, data has shown that the
majority have scenes of violence, offensive language, and inappropriate sexuality. Such series include Empire, where the main character deals with
drugs, violence and sex. Another show is Game of Thrones where the characters portray gory battle scene, foul language and sexual scenes. Television
has also been shown to take teens away from their reading and studying time since they become addicted to the programs they watch (Osama 94).
Television occupies time for exercises and other physical activities from teenagers. Youths who binge
–watch television are more likely to consume junk
foods and snacks that contain high–calorie intake. Since these calories are not being burned physically, there is a higher chance that these teenagers
will end up being obese. Advertised foods have been shown to contain fats that surpass the recommended limit by nutritionists. The number of hours
spent watching programs on television is related to an increased chance of cholesterol levels in teens. Eating disorders, especially in female teens, have
been fueled by the images seen on television of thin models or characters in TV programs who have lost weight due to unconventional ways.

Media Bias In Mass Media
In United State mass media has always been known for being biased. And that's dating back in the early 1700s. For instance, in 1798, 4 laws of Alien
and Sedition Acts was passed by the Congress of U.S in which they state that "The Sedition Act made it a crime for American citizens to "print, utter, or
publish... any false, scandalous, and malicious writing". Thus, these laws straightly go against the political parties and the journalists and newspapers.
Consequently, by the beginning of 1801, this act was abolished. Until the 19th century, it's clearly that the rise of bias inmass media has never gotten

The Functions Of Mass Media
1.Linkage
One of the functions of mass media is linkage. Mass media is able to join different elements of society that are not directly connected. For example,
mass advertising attempts to link the needs of buyers with the products of sellers. Legislators may try to keep in touch with constituent's feelings by
reading their hometown papers. Voters learn about the doings of their elected officials through newspapers, TV, radio and websites. Another type of
linkage occurs when geographically separated groups that share a common interest are linked by the media. The dating services such as Facebook,
eBay online auction site enable people who want to buy or sell items link up. There is however hate sites on the internet that terrorist use to spread
propaganda and recruit new members. For example, newspapers generate opinion; develop feeling for whatever happenings are reported. Advertising
through mass media links together the needs of buyers with the products of sellers. It is also possible that media can create new social and
professional groups by linking together the people of same interest. This function is also called 'public making' ability of the mass media. For example,
people interested in geography, science, environment form a group and this phenomenon may account for the growth of some movement. In this way,
media become a bridge between different groups who may or not may not direct connection.

The Mass Media, What Is Mass Media?
What is Mass Media?
So, what is Mass media? Mass media is communication that is to a large group, or groups, of people in a short time (Mass Media, 2013, p.1). This
can be written, spoken or broadcast communication. Some of the most popular forms of mass media are newspapers, magazines, radio, advertisements,
social media, television, Internet, and films/movies. Mass communication refers to the technology that is used to communicate to a large group, or
groups of people in a short time frame (Pavlik & McIntosh, 2004, p. 22). There are other forms of communication. Interpersonal communication is
kind of how it sounds. It's more personal and is usually face–to–face between two or more people (Interpersonal Communication Skills, 2013, p.1).

Have you ever gone back and forth with yourself to justify why you could eat the last piece of cake and still be on a diet? Maybe you'll run home
from work instead of driving, or maybe something less drastic where you'll work out three times that week instead of twice? This, my friend, is
intrapersonal communication. Being able to reach a large amount of people in a short amount of time is valued especially in society, politics and
commerce, and it's controlled by corporations (Grolier Multimedia Encyclopedia, 2013, p. 1). The mass–media industry "employs professionals to
conceive, produce, promote, and deliver communication products that are specifically designed to meet the goal of attracting large audiences" (p. 1).
These products "may be sold as objects (such as books or digital videodiscs [DVDs]), exhibited for the price of a ticket or subscription (such as movies
shown in cinemas or on premium or pay–for–view cable TV channels), or offered at no cash cost to consumers so as to create an audience for paid
advertising (such as commercial television or radio broadcasts)" (p. 1). "Some of the mass media use combinations of these funding sources; for
example, most newspapers and magazines are sold directly to the reader but depend on selling advertisements for their

Mass Media Bias
Many people today rely on television and social media to stay up to date on current events. However, are those people really staying informed by
what they're reading or watching? Is the person they're watching the news acting biased? What if someone doesn't pay attention to the news at all?
With the near endless amount of content on televisions and computers, many people have alternatives to watching the news and informing themselves.
Today, it is imperative that, as a society, we inform ourselves ad stay up to date on the activities of our government. How is it beneficial to society if
we are ignoring current events and issues that could affect them? Many don't realize how easily accessible news today is.Today, six corporations control

you expect any sort of change if you don't vote? Many of the people you see complain about the results of an election probably didn't vote. What
would these elections have looked like if there were a 60% turnout or even a 70% turnout? Some of those elections would probably have a different

Facebook's impact on young people. Some suggest that young Internet users are more influenced by other young people online. Others suggest young
voters seem to trust older users' evaluations more (Lee). People who intend to vote need to understand that they have to think for these issues
themselves. There is nothing wrong with discussing these issues with others online, but why constantly let others decide for you? Politicians have to

The Mass Media Influence On Society
The mass media greatly influence the behavior and thoughts of citizens and policymakers, and has a great impact on policy agenda. The mass media
includes television, radio, newspapers, magazines, the Internet, and other means of popular communication. There are two kinds of media; print media,
which includes newspapers and magazines, and electronic media, which includes television, radio, and the Internet. There are various positives and
negatives of the media and its relation to the public and to policymaking.
The media allow for Americans to have access to new information, sometimes at a relatively low price or for free. The mass media provide information
for all Americans, regardless of socioeconomic status; the mass media influence all people, not just the elites. This is important because all Americans
can gain knowledge about what is occurring in the United States government, as well as around the world. The media can reach all Americans, but
can also target specific audiences and demographics. An example of this is when a magazine focuses on a specific topic or area of interest. Because of
the Internet and television News channels which report news 24/7, Americans have a constant flow of new information, which they can access at any
given time.
The media are also utilized by politicians in campaigns to gain the attention of potential voters, as well as to spread their platforms and ideas.

The Importance Of Mass Media
Mass media is one of the greatest tools of communication. Media is the source of mass communication which can be delivered through
newspapers, radio, and television. Mass media is very important because it provides information for people around the world. Because of its
importance, mass media is always changing day by day. The development of technology lead a change to digital media. Internet, for instance, has
been most popular in recent years. It has provided people with a large source of information. As a result, printed media such as newspapers are left
behind by the majority of readers. For example, readership for the New York Times has dropped by 50% (BBC. 2010).Newspaper readers have moved
onto digital media because of several reasons. These reasons prove that paper newspapers are becoming obsolete.
The debate about whether printed or digital media is superior has been debated heavily for the last couple of years. Is reading a printed newspaper the
way it should be, or is reading articles online on devices the better choice?
There are hefty concerns about each side. In a video posted by CNBC, Landon Dowdy talks about millennials being perceived in the workplace as
lazy. Dowdy talks to millennial workplace expert, Lindsey Pollack, about how millennials are not lazy at all as portrayed by their stereotypes. In fact,
the opposite is true as millennials strive to be the most efficient which leads to other generations believing that millennials are 'lazy' (Dowdy, L.

Women in magazines are usually tall, extremely thin, and their faces are covered in makeup. Women can easily develop insecurities in the way they
look and feel about themselves because of magazines. Women choose to read certain magazines according to their interests. However, their interests
are usually congruent with those of the majority of women or they wouldn't be reading that particular magazine and those magazines wouldn't stay in
business. On the flip side of the sex factor, influences from magazines such as "For Him" magazine and "Maxim" weigh heavily on many men's self
security. These magazines teach men not only how they should look but also how they should view things. An example of this is a macho, semi sexist,
tough guy, bull headed, over confident attitude. These magazines define for men the writer's essence of a real man. Men as a whole atone themselves
to such lifestyles probably out of fear of not living by these structures. Although magazines have a strong influence on the masses they are by no means
the most influential medium there is.
This brings me to television programming and how it impacts out lives. Television is hands down the most influential form of media we have.

Importance of Mass Media in Society
Mass media is important in society because it reflects the lives, roles, and interests of the people. The media creates the culture and these messages
promote not only products, but moods, attitudes, and a sense of what is and what is not important. People rely on mass media in their everyday lives
for personal, business, family, and leisurely use (CliffNotes). Mass media sets a standard for what our society should value as a whole. In addition,
without mass media we would be left uninformed and less socially connected as a country.

All of the women pictured below have not been edited in any way to conform themselves to society's standard of beauty. They all also had one thing
they wanted to highlight about themselves that society told them they needed to suppress, both in their physical selves and emotionally. The most
prominent forms of society's totalitarian behaviors is through mass media. Media that has been altered to make women feel worthless.
The purpose of my project is not to make these women feel like they are now worth something, but to show them they were always priceless.
The first model's name is Princess, and that names fits her perfectly, but not by Disney's standards, but those of the heart. The title of her magazine is
"Indelible" because when I asked her what was one word she would use to describe herself she chose this with no hesitation. She never wants to be a
forgotten role in someone's life. She exudes beauty, strength, and perfection. Society tries to quiet her strong mind, but she spreads her wisdom to all.
Magazine number 2 is of my roommate Bethany. We grew up with similar backgrounds that were incredibly sheltered by extreme traditional thinking.
The Bible was used more as a justification to suppress personalities rather than a form of unconditional love. She still carries the Bible close to her
heart but she still is rebellious to the way she was taught throughout her life that is represented in the leather jacket covering her cross covered dress.
Reagan is the "Confidence" column, and the inspiration for this project. She has always searched for approval from society, but as the mom friend she
has always taught me to love myself without it because she is on that journey herself. She is a strong, talented, driven, and beautiful woman. She is also
a photographer that believes in being behind the scenes, but this was a chance to let her confidence shine.
The next is my very best friend in the entire world. She is the type of women that men swoon over and drool over, but she walks by like the ball of
sass she is and achieves her goals and beans the man out of their position. She is intimidation but also vanilla in the same person. She makes me want to
be a better person so that we can conquer the world

Media And Mass Media Deviance
Media is the most effective method of mass communication. There are many different sources of mass media; broadcast, advertising, digital,
hypermedia, interactive, multimedia, new media, news media, print media, published media, recorded media and social media(Dictionary.com 2017).
Considering all the different forms media can take, it isn't all too shocking that media has had an influence on deviant behaviors. The media's influence
though, is attributed to promoting deviance rather than reducing it. When individuals contemplate the term deviance, they often think of it as behavior
that is inherently bad. Contrary to that belief, deviance is described as a behavior that departs from the social constructs of a society(Thio 2010).
Deviance, criminal or not, is commonly used amongst mass media to entertain their viewers. The media relies on their audience's inherent social
constructs to make a profit. Without the meanings attached to these deviant behaviors, there wouldn't be any motive behind showing them. All things
considered, what the media covers and how much they chose to cover has significantly changed over the years, the most apparent in crime coverage.
This consistent coverage of crime gives the audience an opportunity to interact with the media. They can feel a part of the intensity of an investigation,
cheer on the enforcers, become immersed in their stereotypes. On the other hand, they can appreciate deviance for its resilience to overcome and resist

Mass Media And Social Media
The Evolution of Media in Presidential Campaigns
The effects of mass media and social media have changed the way people have experienced presidential campaigns in many ways. With the
development of new technologies through the last hundred years many different ways of experiencing the campaigns have taken place. Newspapers,
radio, television, internet and social media websites have changed the ways we all have experienced elections. Between 1960 and today, there have
been many milestones in mass media and the way it has been presented to us. In the 1960's television sets were becoming very popular in many
households across America. The first televised presidential debate took place on September 26, 1960. "1963: Polls show more Americans report that
they rely on television rather than newspapers as their primary source for news." ("1963: Polls show..." PBS, n.d.) With the television becoming the
new medium for people to gain information, this was a major milestone in how information was gathered and perceived. Also in the 1960's the first
stages of development of the internet began. Early computers were also being produced. This had set the stage for upcoming years in technology that
would affect the experience of presidential elections by all. In the 1970's many more transformations were happening in media. The development of
the internet was still underway and won't become readily available until the 90's to the general public. Public access television was created. "The

The Effects Of Mass Media On Society
Where do we get our information in society? How do we know what is true information from false information? Mass media, including T.V, Radio
stations, newspaper has taken over the minds of people in society. According to Glen Smith and Kathleen Searles, Most assumption are being based
off of what they see and hear on the television, social networks and on the radio because its mainly one side stories or one bashing of individuals.
People do not take the time to go in–depth about the situation being inaccurately displayed at times. Sociologist is beginning to realize the effect of
mass media has on society especially the younger generation.
REVIEW OF LITERATURE
Patrick Daley explained from a sociology point of view that Ferrarotti's believe society has lost the essence to communicate with each other face to
face; our expressive world is no longer there. Ferrarotti's argued, " We are losing our ability to produce meaning, to the massive out pouring of images
from television. Television also annihilates history; Frerrarotti maintains, by giving us an unremitting stream of disconnected and episodic event." This
goes to show that media definitely has control of our minds. They showcase what they want the people to see and have judgment on. Even fashion or
the way they portray women and men, has become a money–making business because of the way media has made it into a need and not a want.
People now believe that they have to be slim to be beautiful or have the latest designer

broadcast. While the news believes they are just doing their duty and reporting the news while also honoring the victims, there really just honoring the
perpetrator. With the news portraying the culprit as a hero, relieving what and how many weapons he used, and the amount of people he or she killed
they help encourage future perpetrators to "beat the score". There are several definitions for what consists of a mass shooting, the best coming from

Pedro S. Ortiz In my 20 years of living I can say that the things that I am used to seeing my parents' generation where not use to seeing. The reason for

media, mass media has progressed fast over the years. Coming out with new technology and changing the way people work and view this world. In
my parents' generation the only media there was, was newspapers, and interactions with other people. Now and days, media is seen all over and in

will be talking about and that is the major development in the evolution of mass media in the last century. In the last century, media has grown to be
this world's number one topic. In this present time, many things have changed so much some more than others. Over the years since my parents'

The Influence Of Mass Media
Turn on the television, computer, smartphone, or tablet and the majority of the time an advertisement depicting youthful faces will appear within 10
minutes if not the first 5 seconds of a loading youtube video. Beauty products, weight loss programs and suppliments, plastic surgery references and
encouragement, tickets to events or locations which stimulate feelings of nostalgia bombard viewers from every angle. This bias of youthful
appearances is the basis of American media. "The mass media is in the business of affecting how and what people think" (Summers). By Summers
definition it can be concluded that, as the majority of people build the culture of a society and media affects how and what people think, mass media is
creating a culture obsessed with youth. Americans have a fascination with youth and are reluctant to accept aging gracefully. The obsession of youth is
not an American phenomena. Countries and societies in the modern world and throughout history have been interested in discovering methods of
reversing the biological clock through means of beauty products and practices so that individuals may appear younger, and thereby, more beautiful.
World wide, making changes to one's appearance to reverse, halt, or prolong the human lifespan has been embodied by myths as early as 3,000 B.C.E.
and perhaps earlier (Binstock). Further, actual records of such practices have been traced back to 2,500 B.C.E.(Binstock). By analyzing this research, it

The Importance Of Mass Media
Mass media has become an essential part of the growth and well–being of the United States. In everything from campaigning to daily news coverage,
television, radio, newspapers, and the internet all contribute to the updated political and environmental knowledge of the public. Having important,
day–to–day information accessible at any time is an incredible advantage to the success and development of the American democracy. However, every
piece of information released is not completely accurate and without bias. The reporters, newsmen, journalists, and other people contributing to the
media, write their pieces in their own words according to the data they are given, drawing upon their own conclusions. While many publications are
accurate and useful to its readers, some pieces rely not on facts and statistics, but on the author's own personal opinions. Although I believe reporters
should be free to release any story written with any style the reporter chooses (assuming the story is not degrading the rights or dignities of another
person or persons), I also believe that the parts of publications that do not draw from factual data, but from the author's point of view, should be labelled
accordingly. By doing so, Americans can then feel safe in knowing that the information given to them is accurately stated, effectively terminating any
confusion or manipulation of the public. According to a survey conducted in December 2016 by the Pew Research Center, about two–in–three American

The Influence Of The Mass Media In The Media
Mass media has a huge influence on communities across America. There are numerous mass media platforms like the internet, tv, magazines, and
radio. Through the use of this platforms, messages are able to be given to the public at a huge and rapid rate. Information can at times, however, be
misleading. Due to the fact that the media has a huge influence on the views of people, it is often used as a way to deteriorate the image of a certain
group or individual, underrepresenting them in the entertainment business. In the 1950's African Americans were underrepresented in the media,
accounting for 6% of tv characters. Their numbers increased to 16% in the 1980's (Rodriguez 13). That, however, has not been the case for the Hispanic/
Latino community. The Hispanic / Latino community are underrepresented in themass media, being portrayed negatively in their moments in the
media. This research began on November November 7, 2017. Online databases and books were all acquired through the Augsburg University
Library. I looked for peer reviewed sources in order to make my research as credible as possible. The population interest were Latinos and the media
during after the 1950's. The process began by reading all sources and identifying the most relevant information to my topic. As information was
gathered, some of the sources that were of little to no use were taken out of the research. When going through the information gathering while
reading, there was a lot of focus given on the data and its analysis done by the researchers. Once information was gathered on one source, I would
move onto the next. To organize the information gathered, it was classified by focus. In example, if in two sources news coverage was the topic, they
would be grouped together. Once the information was organized and sorted out, the information was compared and analysed. Than it would be put into
the actual research paper. The research done gives a general representation of the representation of Latinos on the media. In some states, this would not
apply as they have local Latino tv channels, ran by the community itself. Some of this information was included in the research itself.
Latinos have always been underrepresented in the

Media And Broad Casting Mass Media

  • 1. Media And Broad Casting Mass Media For a long time, people receive news on the printed source such as newspaper, magazine which published by newspaper company or publishing company. A little while a go, people got another news source which are radio and television. Most country start with public broad casting and while later, the radio or television company established and start broadcasting own programs. Both literary media and broad casting mass media are mostly driven by big company and each of those company has own political stance or sponsor and those factor heavily reflected to the articles or programs they published. Back in the days, these biased article provide versatility to individual issues. For example the press called Partisan Press which has clear political bias and it attracted the different group of people.(Sikka, Week4 Lecture) The issue now publish and broadcast media is lack of versatility by concentration of the ownership. Consequence of the capitalism society, many of the company which produce news bought by bigger powerful company and it end up with under around 10 company are owning media nowadays and this concentration of media ownership leads to the lack of versatility.(Lorimer, 249) After the internet technology available to the public, the issue of versatility starts to solve gradually by individual's blog or the rapid rising of micro–blog service use such as "Twitter". • 2. Media In Mass Media Introduction In more recent years, the mass media has begun to play a huge part in how the general public's view on the world and how they receive their news. When mass media was first introduced, it shared news alongside the main conveyer – print, but with the growth of social media and the web, news has taken a technological turn. When it comes to sharing any form of news, it has become more common for people to check the internet using their phones. Mass media platforms like radio, television and the internet have the advantage of fast and constant updates and the ability to share photos and videos at the click of a button. In the spreading the news of terrorist attacks, the mass media used these outlets in their best interest. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This concert was broadcasted live across television, radio and social media. It proved to those trying to merge fear into everyday life that it was not going to work. The week before, the mass media was filled with footage from the bombing, where at the time we saw the fear in people, through those that were at the arena and those that were turning to social media for aid to find those still missing but those that had attended the concert and survived were given free tickets to the One Love Manchester concert and this showed that the attack did not scare them out of entering an arena again. Reporting on terrorism "Framing is the term used by the researchers to refer to how an event in a particular news story is portrayed... The most common frames used by the media from centre are associating Islam/Muslim with terrorism". (Sultan, 2016). More often than not when there is a terrorist attack, those who carry out the crime do not survive. When a large attack is carried out like a bombing or a shooting, it is instantly labelled as a terrorist attack. This is due to framing portrayal from the media because they know the words 'terrorism' or 'terrorist' are alarming words to the public. Even more attracting are those words linked with the words 'Muslim' or 'Islam'. The Oxford English Dictionary defines terrorism as "The unlawful ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Importance Of Mass Media Everyone's comprehension is different and unique in reality. When a person receives a message from mass media, he tells the message which is from mass media to another person. These two people understand what does this message means; however, they may have different comprehension of this message. People can think about each message and analyze a message in a different way because they have their own idea. For example, when people do a survey for a film, some people may think this film is very good; some people may think it is not very good, and the other people may think it is a bad film. Hence, people can give their different or same common in the same survey. People cannot judge their idea is right or wrong. In reality, people have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As Eco says, in reality, people can accept the basic codes, but they have their own idea and understanding about a same message. People cannot totally trust mass media because of relying on mass media too much could be dangerous. According to Mead (1929: 135) "We do so intimately identify our experiences, especially our affective experiences, with the self that it takes a moment's abstraction to realize that pain and pleasure can be there without being the experience of the self," this implies that people have a different understanding of a same message because everyone has different experiences. People have different experiences because of the obvious regional and cultural differences. For example, people accept different education, so their knowledge level is different. When two people, which have a different level of knowledge receives a same message from mass media, they will have different understanding of message. Hence, mess media cannot totally influence people's decisions and outcomes. • 4. The Propaganda Model Of The Mass Media Throughout society, the mass media constantly changes over time. The mass media play a prominent role in informing the public about what occurs within the world, especially in areas which audiences do not acquire direct experience and knowledge. This essay will argue that the propaganda model is no longer valid as it has become outdated. This essay will also discuss the model in relation to the five filters and draw on Rampton's critique of the propaganda model in contemporary society. The propaganda model was developed by Edward Herman and Noam Chomsky in 1988. The propaganda model was published in the book of Manufacturing Consent, sought to provide an analytical framework that attempts to explain the behavioral and performance of the mass media in the United States (Herman, 2000). Herman and Chomsky (2002) argued that the propaganda model contains five filters which determine what is 'news'. The first filter is the size, ownership, and profit orientation of the media, which refers to the cooperation between the mainstream media and the large conglomerate. The second filter is advertising, which refers to the mass media using advertising as the central source of income. The third filter is sourcing, which refers to the mass media dependency of information from the government, business and experts. The fourth filter is "flak", which refers to the negative response that discipline the media. The fifth filter is anti–communism, which refers to the control mechanism of the ... With the purpose of mass media being to educate, entertain and inform, the excessive violence, self imaging, and lack of full detail on world events, is having negative influences and unhealthy impacts on society. As early as the 1920s, a form of the media has been present in the American society. Although broadcasted content was limited and not as popular as present day, for some homes, it was a source of entertainment and information "From 1921 to 1924, there were only 500 licensed media radio stations. By the 1940s (1930–1940), at least 83% of homes possessed a radio"(Smith, 2014,paragraph 2&3, Radio: The Internet of the 1930 's). The negativity of certain broadcasting posed as a concern, even in the early years. As Smith explained, "But the new technology also raised anxieties. • 10. The Consequences Of Media Bias In The Mass Media Everyday we go through life with the same rituals that we have come accustomed We repeat these daily cycles so often and never realize why we do the things we do, or the reason behind them. We bring up the subject of Media Bias and at most times it seems as if it is an abstract concept. We do not usually see the blindfold that is held over our eyes while we are presented with the news about the world, our neighborhood, and our cities. In my opinion, Media Bias is just a preference automatically set for us based upon many qualities that the viewer audience tend to share. I will provide evidence that shows that we are all victims of Media Bias and that it constantly effects our lives even if we don't know it. Society has a tendency to think that a social issue doesn't have much importance until it hits us personally. "A person exposed to a persuasive communication in themass media sees this as having a greater effect on others than on himself or herself" (Eveland, 2003, pg. 117). This statement proves that people rarely disrupts their daily routines because they believe media tactics aren't directed solely to them. We often feel like we are "above" whatever situation is currently being played out by the media, but we all still fall short when it comes to getting past it. There are times when the news will give out information pointed towards a specific group that many not have much widespread significance, but they will still report it because they feel that the message ... • 14. Mass Media In The Media Mass media is a large part of what the population consumes and identifies with; the fact that so much of life is influenced by the media is unhealthy especially considering how some of its messages are inherently sinister, and reach a worldwide audience. It has the ability to progress or devolve a society of people with the imagery it chooses to display. In the documentary, 'Miss Representation' by Siebel Newsom, the point is raised "The media is selling young people the idea that girls' and women's value lies in their youth, beauty, and sexuality and not in their capacity as leaders. Boys learn that their success is tied to dominance, power, and aggression. We must value people as wholehuman beings, not gendered stereotypes" (2011, Siebel Newsom). Infantilization, hypersexualization and dehumanization/objectification of women are epidemics that spread throughout the media to a point where it is rare, and jarring, to see a woman represented without those things. To contrast, men are often portrayed as powerful and/or of a high status. They are allowed to age and given permission to be given genuinely human traits and characteristics. This can severely impact the mindsets and behaviours of the individuals who consume these images. When young women and girls are subjected to these images hundreds of times a day for years, side effects include low self–esteem, eating disorders, and self–objectification. • 15. Socialization Of Mass Media The mass media participates in this hegemonic process in the way it reveals the social status and economic class. The mainstream news media often commends the prosperity and values of the dominant class and weakens the dignity of the working people. This happens largely through the corporate monopolization and can be seen through analyzing the dominant ideologies of consumerism, competition and democracy within modern society. Preserving control over people's minds is a fundamental element of the political power required to maintain the capitalist economic system. Herman and Chomsky provide a "propaganda model" that can be used as an agenda to further examine how the media serves the ends of a dominant elite. The consumer culture is one of the primary forms of domination and can often interfere with our identities in destructive ways. Companies use the media as a system of communication to increase commodity consumption in order to generate profit for capitalists. Mainstream news media are profit driven businesses owned by corporations and are largely funded by advertisers. Advertising was a significant innovative expansion that influenced the formation of the consumer. "The goal of advertisers was to aggressively shape consumer desires and create value in commodities by imbuing them with the power to transform the consumer into a more desirable person" (C. Colaguori, 2013, p.173). When linking values to commodities, advertisers are implanting insecurities and fears ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 16. Mass Media Bias And Its Effect On The Media Having control over an entire country's population's opinion is a powerful thing to have. Possessing that control would allow you to direct how the population spends their money or even who they like and dislike in politics. The mainstream media news outlets have this control and are expected to give us information that is unbiased, fair, and not meant to sway our opinion. The topic I will be exploring is bias in the mainstream news media and how it effects their viewers. This is an important topic in the field of communication because it has such a great impact on any country that uses mass media to disseminate information. The information can be given to the viewers with a certain twist to intentionally shape their view of an event, or it can be unintentionally bias just by the tone and manner they are reporting on the event. I am going to research how mass media news outlets influence the viewers opinion, and what goes in to picking the news stories covered. These are controversial topics to get into, but important to consider. They can have a very big impact on things like elections for a political office, support or dislike of a certain group, or can sway your opinion of who is the hero in a certain story. My sources will need to show specific examples of how the media is biased towards one opinion, what the effects are from this are, and who makes the determines the bias that is being displayed. • 17. Mass Media And The Media The fear of crime is one of the most lasting outcomes of a crime–ridden society. Crime, deviance, delinquency and other social problems have always been a staple of newspaper accounts, television news shows and crime dramas. The majority of the population relies on the news media as the main source of information and the basis on which they form their opinions and voting decisions. Knowledge of these events is secondhand, filtered through the media graphically and textually, thus appearing immediate, shocking, entertaining and informative. In today's society the media has become our firsthand experience for our source of information, opinion, and news about the world. While there is some debate as to how much influence the media actually has, there is some evidence to suggest there is some connection. The controversial topic between mass media and the fear of crime can be explained by the influential aspects of the media, moral panics of crime and the fear of victimization. Furthermore because the media is such an integral part of our lives, it generates a great deal of popular interest and debate, especially regarding controversial topics. However, defining "fear of crime" has generated some controversy where no single agreed–upon definition exists (Heath, 2012). The aspect of media and the fear of crime can be controversial because the media will always take the side of a story that is more profitable even though they may know that it is not the correct side to take in ... • 18. Media Used In Mass Media Many people in the mass media industry have used their platform in very different ways. The ways people have used them , do vary because some mass media influencers use their platform for good and some use it for bad. For example, In the Brian Williams case he used it for bad because he lied to the people that looked up to him, or people that watched the news. Another example would be when Jorge Ramos was kicked out of the press room for asking difficult question to Donald Trump, but in this case it was different because he used mass media for good because he was asking these questions for the people and for them to know, what was going on. Because if not then who is going to ask them. Brian Williams used his platform in a bad way because he lied to people which initially caused him to lose his job. He lied to people saying that he was there in the helicopter during the Iraq invasion. He clearly just wanted to make himself look good in front of the public eye , so he made himself the hero of the story when he was obviously not. Jones states "that is why much of America, including myself, is having a hard time understanding how NBC news anchor Brian Williams could possibly have "misremembered" whether he was actually aboard a Chinook helicopter forced down by rocket fire during the Iraq invasion in 2003. Especially when there were multiple witnesses around to remind him of the truth of what happened that day". This shows that even though there was many people that reminded ... Meyers, who is retired, gave me the pleasure of sitting down and talking to me about the world of Mass Media Communication, then and now. Most of what we hear about in the world today comes to us as it is broadcasted through the television news networking stations and the Radio broadcasts throughout the day. The training involved in becoming a reporter deals especially with developing a person's social skill, and their ability to use their curiosity to get information out of people, even when they are reluctant to give it. A scene comes on the television with twogay men intimately approaching each other, about to have sex. For a minute, the girls are tensely sitting in silence, not speaking, but awkwardly staring at the television. As the scene turns to a commercial, the girls begin to loosen up and start giggling. Blushing, Jessie interrupts the awkwardness, "Well you don't really see that too much!" Scandal is just one of the recent shows featuring gay characters and themes. • 22. The Importance Of Mass Media Bias In The Media 1.Introduction Having control over an entire country's population's opinion is a powerful thing to have. Possessing that control would allow you to direct how the population spends their money or even who they like and dislike in politics. The mainstream media news outlets have this control and are expected to give us information that is unbiased, fair, and not meant to sway our opinion. The topic I will be exploring is bias in the mainstream news media and how it affects their viewers. This is an important topic in the field of communication because it has such a great impact on any country that uses mass media to disseminate information. The information can be given to the viewers with a certain twist to intentionally shape their view of an event, or it can be unintentionally bias just by the tone and manner they are reporting on the event. I am going to research how mass media news outlets influence the viewers opinion, and what goes into picking the news stories covered. These are controversial topics to get into, but important to consider. They can have a very big impact on things like elections for a political office, support or dislike of a certain group, or can sway your opinion of who is the hero in a certain story. My sources will need to show specific examples of how the media is biased towards one opinion, what the effects are from this, and who makes the determination of the bias that is being displayed. 2.Annotations Colistra, Rita. It is imperative for parents to filter the content that teenagers have access. This paper seeks to find out the effects of media on teenagers. Mass media has both negative and positive influences, and I strive to prove this claim. Online media and television have given teenagers access to health education on various diseases such as STDs, acne, and depression. The programs help the adolescents to dispel any myths about health care. Health organizations such as MayoClinic have confidential sites where teenagers are given a platform to ask any question without being judged. Youths who suffer from chronic conditions such as diabetes, asthma and skin ailments can join networks that provide support and the best method to handle their health. Television also has the potential to create negative and positive impacts. Although not all television programs are immoral, data has shown that the majority have scenes of violence, offensive language, and inappropriate sexuality. Such series include Empire, where the main character deals with drugs, violence and sex. Another show is Game of Thrones where the characters portray gory battle scene, foul language and sexual scenes. Television has also been shown to take teens away from their reading and studying time since they become addicted to the programs they watch (Osama 94). Television occupies time for exercises and other physical activities from teenagers. Youths who binge –watch television are more likely to consume junk foods and snacks that contain high–calorie intake. Since these calories are not being burned physically, there is a higher chance that these teenagers will end up being obese. Advertised foods have been shown to contain fats that surpass the recommended limit by nutritionists. The number of hours spent watching programs on television is related to an increased chance of cholesterol levels in teens. Eating disorders, especially in female teens, have been fueled by the images seen on television of thin models or characters in TV programs who have lost weight due to unconventional ways. For instance, in 1798, 4 laws of Alien and Sedition Acts was passed by the Congress of U.S in which they state that "The Sedition Act made it a crime for American citizens to "print, utter, or publish... any false, scandalous, and malicious writing". Thus, these laws straightly go against the political parties and the journalists and newspapers. Consequently, by the beginning of 1801, this act was abolished. Until the 19th century, it's clearly that the rise of bias inmass media has never gotten any diminished. These mainstream such as CNN, BBC, NBC News, MSNBC, Daily Show, or New York Times versus Fox News, Wall Street Journal, Drudge Report or Rush Limbaugh Show still battling for their political supports, Democratic–liberals versus Republican–conservatives. Their biases are most likely to be seen in the editorial section of the newspapers. However, it's seemed to be true that the vast majorities of mass media nowadays tend to be biased, more towards progressive–liberal values. The Gallup reveals that the polls of American's Trust in the Mass Media has been decrease by a lot since 1997. 53% in comparison to 40% in 2013. The people confidence in television and news also dropped majorly, 46%, almost 50% in 1994 in comparison of 18% in 2014. Voters learn about the doings of their elected officials through newspapers, TV, radio and websites. It is also possible that media can create new social and professional groups by linking together the people of same interest. This function is also called 'public making' ability of the mass media. There are many different sources of mass media; broadcast, advertising, digital, hypermedia, interactive, multimedia, new media, news media, print media, published media, recorded media and social media(Dictionary.com 2017). Considering all the different forms media can take, it isn't all too shocking that media has had an influence on deviant behaviors. The media's influence though, is attributed to promoting deviance rather than reducing it. When individuals contemplate the term deviance, they often think of it as behavior that is inherently bad. Contrary to that belief, deviance is described as a behavior that departs from the social constructs of a society(Thio 2010). Deviance, criminal or not, is commonly used amongst mass media to entertain their viewers. The media relies on their audience's inherent social constructs to make a profit. Without the meanings attached to these deviant behaviors, there wouldn't be any motive behind showing them. All things considered, what the media covers and how much they chose to cover has significantly changed over the years, the most apparent in crime coverage. Ferrarotti's argued, " We are losing our ability to produce meaning, to the massive out pouring of images from television. Television also annihilates history; Frerrarotti maintains, by giving us an unremitting stream of disconnected and episodic event." This goes to show that media definitely has control of our minds. They showcase what they want the people to see and have judgment on. Even fashion or the way they portray women and men, has become a money–making business because of the way media has made it into a need and not a want. People now believe that they have to be slim to be beautiful or have the latest designer ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Media And Mass Shootings In my essay, I argue that the media, in particular the news, has a bigger influence in mass shootings then other stimuli like; access to guns, violent video games, and mental illness. By exploring the news' role in mass shootings we can begin to discuss the changes that can be made in the way they broadcast. While the news believes they are just doing their duty and reporting the news while also honoring the victims, there really just honoring the perpetrator. With the news portraying the culprit as a hero, relieving what and how many weapons he used, and the amount of people he or she killed they help encourage future perpetrators to "beat the score". There are several definitions for what consists of a mass shooting, the best coming from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Development Of Mass Media Mass Media: Development and Literacy HUM/186 Oct 30, 2017 Pedro S. Ortiz In my 20 years of living I can say that the things that I am used to seeing my parents' generation where not use to seeing. The reason for this is because of the time deafferents, many things have change over all or have progressed. Somethings that have changed rapidly over time is mass media, mass media has progressed fast over the years. Coming out with new technology and changing the way people work and view this world. In my parents' generation the only media there was, was newspapers, and interactions with other people. Now and days, media is seen all over and in many different was. Newspapers, internet, cell phones (smart phones), radio, television, and much more. This is what brings me to my topic that I will be talking about and that is the major development in the evolution of mass media in the last century. In the last century, media has grown to be this world's number one topic. In this present time, many things have changed so much some more than others. Over the years since my parents' radios, television, and smart phones have transformed the way that mass media works and functions. Radios have always been around but the way they look, function have changed and now and days radios are everywhere especially cars. Radios has always been used for internment and the media of course. Phones have been around for a little now but because of the ways that cell phones have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. The Influence Of Mass Media Turn on the television, computer, smartphone, or tablet and the majority of the time an advertisement depicting youthful faces will appear within 10 minutes if not the first 5 seconds of a loading youtube video. Beauty products, weight loss programs and suppliments, plastic surgery references and encouragement, tickets to events or locations which stimulate feelings of nostalgia bombard viewers from every angle. This bias of youthful appearances is the basis of American media. "The mass media is in the business of affecting how and what people think" (Summers). By Summers definition it can be concluded that, as the majority of people build the culture of a society and media affects how and what people think, mass media is creating a culture obsessed with youth. Americans have a fascination with youth and are reluctant to accept aging gracefully. The obsession of youth is not an American phenomena. Countries and societies in the modern world and throughout history have been interested in discovering methods of reversing the biological clock through means of beauty products and practices so that individuals may appear younger, and thereby, more beautiful. By analyzing this research, it can be concluded that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. The Importance Of Mass Media Mass media has become an essential part of the growth and well–being of the United States. In everything from campaigning to daily news coverage, television, radio, newspapers, and the internet all contribute to the updated political and environmental knowledge of the public. Having important, day–to–day information accessible at any time is an incredible advantage to the success and development of the American democracy. However, every piece of information released is not completely accurate and without bias. The reporters, newsmen, journalists, and other people contributing to the media, write their pieces in their own words according to the data they are given, drawing upon their own conclusions. While many publications are accurate and useful to its readers, some pieces rely not on facts and statistics, but on the author's own personal opinions. Although I believe reporters should be free to release any story written with any style the reporter chooses (assuming the story is not degrading the rights or dignities of another person or persons), I also believe that the parts of publications that do not draw from factual data, but from the author's point of view, should be labelled accordingly. By doing so, Americans can then feel safe in knowing that the information given to them is accurately stated, effectively terminating any confusion or manipulation of the public. According to a survey conducted in December 2016 by the Pew Research Center, about two–in–three American ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. The Influence Of The Mass Media In The Media Mass media has a huge influence on communities across America. There are numerous mass media platforms like the internet, tv, magazines, and radio. Through the use of this platforms, messages are able to be given to the public at a huge and rapid rate. Information can at times, however, be misleading. Due to the fact that the media has a huge influence on the views of people, it is often used as a way to deteriorate the image of a certain group or individual, underrepresenting them in the entertainment business. In the 1950's African Americans were underrepresented in the media, accounting for 6% of tv characters. Their numbers increased to 16% in the 1980's (Rodriguez 13). That, however, has not been the case for the Hispanic/ Latino community. The Hispanic / Latino community are underrepresented in themass media, being portrayed negatively in their moments in the media. This research began on November November 7, 2017. Online databases and books were all acquired through the Augsburg University Library. I looked for peer reviewed sources in order to make my research as credible as possible. The population interest were Latinos and the media during after the 1950's. The process began by reading all sources and identifying the most relevant information to my topic. As information was gathered, some of the sources that were of little to no use were taken out of the research. When going through the information gathering while reading, there was a lot of focus given on the data and its analysis done by the researchers. Once information was gathered on one source, I would move onto the next. To organize the information gathered, it was classified by focus. In example, if in two sources news coverage was the topic, they would be grouped together. Once the information was organized and sorted out, the information was compared and analysed. Than it would be put into the actual research paper. The research done gives a general representation of the representation of Latinos on the media. In some states, this would not apply as they have local Latino tv channels, ran by the community itself. Some of this information was included in the research itself. Latinos have always been underrepresented in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
