In my opinion, a map is a representation of real life situations scaled onto paper, used to further
explain, describe and simplify information. It can be in the form of a model, a diagram or an actual
map showing features of the earth. When my Geography teacher in Form 4 taught the class about
Population, we couldn't really grasp the concept of how to determine the stages of countries in terms
of their birth rate and death rate, so he used the Demographic Transition Model that shows the stages
of birth rate and death rate as well as population growth of countries to further explain the stages of
development in countries, in relation to population. After his explanation of the model, 15 out of 17
students stated that they fully understood the topic as opposed to 5 out of 17 students in the class
before the class was introduced to the model. This goes to show that the model successfully
simplified the knowledge and aided us in further understanding the topic, thus proving its
convenience only when it simplifies knowledge. If it wasn't used to simplify the knowledge, it

This semester was my first time working with 3rd graders at an IB school. This type of school is
structured much differently than all the other elementary schools in Jefferson County. The
curriculum at this school is a concept driven curriculum that helps students construct meaning
through improved critical thinking skills. This means that the lessons taught are inquiry based.
Inquiry based instruction is centered on posing questions and establishing facts through exploration
rather than simply presenting the facts to the students. With that being said, my cooperating teacher
(CT) planned a very interactive Science lesson to get his students engaged in learning and doing
Science. My CT told me that he did not have a specific book to teach with, yet he had essential
questions and standards that needed to be met in Science. The lesson was centered on the 3rd grade
Colorado academic standard 2, concept 2, which pertained to the concept of the duration and timing
of life cycle events in different organisms. The essential question of how humans can have negative

there is no need for a 3rd party and we come up with the concepts. On the other hand he argues that
social sciences do not constitute to reality. There is already something out there that exists so in
other words, it's not primary. If social science were to disappear, culture would still exist. Social
science he argues is based on perspective whereas natural science will exist regardless. The natural
science never changes only the concepts that are part of the particular topic in natural science
change as time progresses. For example, elements on the periodic table have always had the same
foundation. The way we made understanding of them over time is what changed. Frankly, when it
comes to social science, it is fundamentally interpretive. There's already an idea that requires
interpretation and doesn't define what's actually going on. There is more of a variety and on going
study since interpretation is ever lasting and always changing and developing.

Human Nature And Science Corrupts Human Beings
Jean –Jacques Rousseau believed that technology, knowledge and science corrupts human beings,
and that human nature is good. The more knowledge a person has, the more greed they have or the
more money a person has they believe they are better than another person. Some also believe the
more money they have, the more problems they will have in their life. There is a saying that goes
"it's better to be poor and happy than being rich and miserable." I believe that the experiences that
one is to have matter the most in the world, I rather be poor and happy than rich and miserable. If
you have all the money in the world and you are not happy with yourself, the money does not mean
anything. In the case of technology, it is something that corrupts human beings. People do not think
for themselves anymore, they have become inadequate thinkers. Human beings rely on technology
so much, that it is something we have become attached to. In life, it is better to strive for a simple
life. Once a person has enough, they should try to keep the simplicity that keeps them happy.
Striving for more does not necessarily mean you will have the happiness that you been looking for.
Having just what you need, many do not depend on material objects to bring them happiness, as in
some many think that these material items will bring happiness into their life, which is not true.
Striving for happiness in the sense of striving for more in money does not matter in the end. In the
