2. Markets opened with a positive note tracking Asian as well as US markets
gains and moved in a sideways manner for the rest of the day. It closed
for the day retaining most of the gains.
The market breadth, indicating the overall health of the market, was
positive. On BSE, 1,671 shares gained and 1,141 shares fell. The markets
were waiting for the February IIP data which came in at 4.1% against
6.8% in January.
On the sectoral front, gains were made in metal, banking, FMCG and auto
while minor loss was seen in IT and technology. Banking stocks gained as
fall in IIP strengthened the chance for an interest rate hike by RBI.
