• Everything has an opportunity cost.
• Immediately stop:
– Doing anything lacking senior management support
– Lead generation programs not followed up by sales
– Campaigns that don’t reinforce your core message
– Unnecessary reporting and analysis
– Working with unreliable/unproductive people
– Anything impeding your efficiency

2. Play to win –
• Your success is determined by your attitude and
expectations
• Believe that you have the right
product/service, that it offers real benefits, and
that you are promoting it to the right people.
• There is a difference between playing to win and
playing not to lose.
– If you play not to lose, it is almost guaranteed that you
will not win.

• Get rid of the many distractions that deter you
from your path.

4. Flout conventional wisdom –
• “Marketing is always expensive”
– False.
– Spending more money is not always better.
• Many marketers overemphasize the upfront cost
of an advertising program (e.g. cost to reach a
certain number of people).
• You are better off measuring the more important
gauges that tell you if your program is profitable,
such as cost per sale or cost per dollar of revenue.

• Do the tough upfront work to make sure you have
a compelling value proposition.
– Research your competitors
– Test your models and strategies
