Luke 38-42 Analysis
Luke 10: 38–42"
"Seated at the feet of Jesus. An Attitude of Servanthood and Discipleship"
There are times when serving can become a distraction for us. When such occurs you keep your
focus on Jesus.
This passage of scripture begins with Jesus and his disciples who were on their journey to Jerusalem
and entered into a certain village. In preparing this sermon, I read in Luke 9 verses 51–56 Jesus sent
messengers ahead to prepare for him in a Samaritan village, but the Samaritans refused him because
he was going to Jerusalem to do the will of his father. The Samaritans were Israelites and they were
not the best of friends of the Jews at that time. 2nd Kings 17:24 says the Samaritans intermarried

Martha asked Jesus, didn't he care that she did all the work by herself? However, Martha was
allowing her emotions to get in the way by worrying about the preparations. Although her emotions
were trying to take control of the situation Jesus saw this. He told her not to be worried or anxious
only a few things were needed. Our emotions are God–given and they are our servants and not our
masters. Our emotions affect our character and how we act toward one another. Therefore, we
cannot let our emotions dictate who we are. Here in this text, Jesus who is a servant of his father
took time from his journey to have fellowship and to teach the word of God. Romans 10:15 says:
"And how can anyone preach unless they are sent?" As it is written, "How beautiful are the feet of
those who bring good news." If Jesus took the time why can't you? What have you allowed to take
precedence in your life more than spending time in the presence of Jesus? Do not allow distractions
of anger, un–forgiveness, and negative talk keep you from the word of God. Mary demonstrated true
discipleship when Jesus entered the house and sat at his feet. When we humbly submit ourselves at
the feet of Jesus, under his word, his Holy Spirit will dwell within us and guide us into all

Essay On The Door 42
Door #42 I don't know exactly how it started. I woke up on the concrete ground, and the smell of
copper and mildew invaded my nose. I eventually sat up and begin moving my limbs around to
make sure I wasn't hurt. While stretching out my back, I heard a rustling in the corner. A human,
based on the outline. I slowly stood up and crept over to them. Sitting up, I could tell it was a boy,
and a scared one at that. He stood up and looked at me with wide frightened eyes. "I'm Beau. Who
are you? Why am I he...?'' His voice drifted away as he took in the situation. "'Mason. I don't know
where we are, but we are gonna get out."' Beau slowly stood up and begin brushing himself off and I
did the same. Looking around the room, I saw that one side ... Show more content on

Suddenly a person fell from the darkness in the high ceiling, landing with a sickening crunch on the
ground. They had made no sound falling, and certainly wouldn't be making any noise now. Beau
began crying and clutching his chest. "Beau, I'm gonna get us out I promise. You have to be quiet or
someone will hear us." Stepping over piles of bones and puddles, we found out doors ringed the
floor level, Each one about four steps apart. They all had numbers on them, from #1–#70. All of
them had a padlock on them. They were all shaped and colored differently, some rotting and falling
apart and others looked brand new. We eventually came across a yellowed paper on the wall with a
riddle on it. "'Use your brain to play this game, or we will take it from you and isn't that such a
shame? In this room is the key, if you find it you're halfway free. Choose the wrong door, you will
regret it for sure..."' I looked around the chamber and decided I would look in the cages first for the
key. I went halfway up the stairs, and leaped onto the nearest one and reached through the bars and
began sifting through bones. I lept from cage to cage, sifting through bones and running my fingers
through the puddles. I found the key in a cage that was above door #33. I made my way back to the
stairs and showed Beau the key. "'Which door do you want Beau?'' "17." #17 was a deep burgundy
with a gold handle. I took a deep breath and put the key in the lock. It

Psalm 42 Analysis
When Queen Elizabeth came into power she wanted a new version of the bible. She thought the
recent versions of the bible were not promoting the Church of England. By 1604 they started writing
the King James Bible. The King James translation of the bible was published in 1611 with the full
support of King James I. The King James Bible was the universally accepted Bible from the mid–
17th to the early 20th century (Encyclopedia Britannica).
All throughout history there have been more pages of commentaries about the Bible than pages of

You can admire the imagery if you are reading it secularly or religiously. Anybody can enjoy the
imagery of this Psalm. People that range from everyday people to scholars at prestigious schools
study the Psalms. The Psalms are very admirable because they display the imagery so well. It is very
easy for people to understand what the psalms are. One of the lines that give us a very good image is
verse ten "As with a sword in my bones, my enemies reproach me (27)". In this verse the sword
represents past people that have made fun of him and teased him for being close to and a follower of
God. He is weak because of the sword. He also becomes weaker because his enemies keep striking
with insults when he is already down. While they are attacking him they keep saying "Where is thy
God" (28). Another verse that conveys good imagery in this Psalm is "My tears have been my meat
day and night" (5). He is feeding on his own tears. He is not having any food because he is mad with
himself. He wants to fast because he wants to get closer to God. He feels far away from God.
Throughout the Psalm they describe nature in many different aspects. The poet describes the water
in some verses. "As the hart panteth after the water brooks" (1). The deer is thirsty for water and
finds it. He also describes the area of a land. He uses phrases such as "the land of Jordan (17)" and
"from the hill of Mizar (18)". These are names of real places during this

Barriers In The Movie 42
No, this isn't a blog post about The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.
In reality, this week's blog post is about the movie 42, a film encompassing the highs and lows of
Jackie Robinson's baseball career. It is personal story of courage, triumph, and achievement that
focuses on the extent of racism in the 1940s. If you want to check out the movie, here is the trailer.
This movie showcased the numerous barriers for people of colour and essentially any race with
exception of those who are white. Jackie Robinson was especially targeted due to the fact that he
was the first black baseball player to play in the MLB. Despite the various individuals who
supported the change in western culture, there were many who made the transition difficult by
applying many barriers such as segregation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That's how many black baseball players were in the MLB before Jackie Robinson. He was the first,
and to say he encountered a few barriers, would most likely be the understatement of the century.
Jackie Robinson was ridiculed and taunted relentlessly by people who honestly thought they were
better than him.
Segregation was a constant reminder of how people viewed him. The constant threat of being hit on
purpose by the pitcher hovered over him during every game. People who came to see the games
booed and hissed at him while setting foolish examples for their children. Team mates signed a
petition to have him removed from the team simply because he did not posses the same colour skin
as them. The list goes on.
Perhaps the most infuriating thing however, was his need for a thick skin, his inability to react to the
injustices for fear the journalists would spin the story into something regarding an outburst due to
the colour of his skin, thus resulting in him leaving the league. His ability to communicate, to
express his feeling was revoked and personally, I believe that is one of the worst things you can do
to a person.
But it's 2015, who cares about that now, right?

42 Film Analysis
In 2013, 42 was released as a motion picture under the direction of Brian Helgeland ("42"). The film
focuses its attention on the unprecedented sports career of the African American Major League
baseball player, Jackie Robinson. In addition, the main focal point of the film was to emphasize the
horrors of racial segregation and to reveal how that ultimately affected the lives of all African
Americans. Therefore, the overall plot portrays the honorary story of a talented young man as he
bravely overcomes adversity and racism in order to be viewed as an equal in sports and in society.
Nevertheless, the main characters include: Jackie Robinson, Branch Rickey, Rachel Robinson, Leo

For example, African Americans were lawfully forbidden from using the same bathrooms as whites,
sitting with whites on buses and airplanes, and even kept them from playing on the same sports
teams. Therefore, this significantly affected the athletic career of Jackie Robinson, where he was
obliged to play on and all–black baseball team, despite the fact that he was talented enough to be
playing on a Major League team. However, when he is invited by sports executive, Branch Rickey,
to try out for the Montreal Royals, Jackie was forced to face unimaginable racism and seclusion not
only by fans, but by his team as well. Eventually, Jackie's talent earns him a spot on the Major
League team, the Brooklyn Dodgers, which ultimately enhances the threats and harassment. Given
this information, some of the key historical events and turning points that are emphasized in this
film include: Rickey inviting Jackie to attend the spring baseball training; Jackie earning a spot on
the Montreal Royals; Jackie's successful season with the Royals; earning a spot to play with the
Brooklyn Dodgers; the game against the Philadelphia Phillies, where manager Ben Chapman,
tormented Jackie with racial slurs and insults during the entire game; when Jackie is finally accepted

The Film 42: The Divide In Baseball
42: The Divide in Baseball Race has always been an issue long deep rooted in American history. The
film 42, reflects its own issue of race within sports. It was directed by Brian Helgeland and was
released on April 12, 2013. To begin, the film 42 starts off with an idea from the owner of the
Dodgers, Branch Rickey. In the year 1946, he decides to search and recruit the first African–
American baseball player to participate in the Major League of baseball. A young man by the name
of Jackie Robinson who never backs down from racism, although he plays for the "Negro League".
Rickey chooses Jackie to break down the unspoken rule of not allowing black players play in
Baseball with the current Major league of Baseball that is only "for" white men. The idea is not
easily accepted by the rest of baseball. Jackie, along with his wife receive major ridicule and
relentless racism from stadium crowds to teammates. Robinson learns to overcome his urges to fight
back against racism and let the owners or teammates assist him when he leasts expects it. The movie
accomplishes the criteria for depicting race within baseball because the film should accurately
describe history in baseball within racial differences; and the film should bring forth a breakthrough
in racial barriers. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The importance for barrier breakdown is due to the necessity of equality in sports. Baseball during
the year 1946, was one of few American pastimes that was not segregated by law. Structural racism
are laws that allow certain races to participate in selected activities enforced based upon laws or
rules. As explained in the previous paragraph, it was abnormal for Jackie Robinson to play in the
MLB because he was the first African–American. Although this is a commonly known fact in sports
history, the movie addresses the issues along with a resolution that leads to a breakdown in racial

The Similarities Between Walden And 42
Jackie Robinson was the first ever African American to ever play in Major League Baseball. This
caused a major change in Major League Baseball history because he was the first one to play in a all
white league. He had to deal with a lot of people being mean to him and trying to hurt him and also
trying to get him to lash out at people so that he could get kicked out of the MLB. This theme can be
seen in the work of Henry David Thoreau. An example of this theme can be seen in the movie 42.
Walden by Henry David Thoreau, and 42 by Brian Helgeland show that hard work and dedication
leads to success in life. This theme is supported by tone, self–reliance, and characters perseverance
in both texts.

Thoreau says, "If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a
different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears" (Thoreau 385). This quote is trying to
explain that you should march to your own beat you shouldn't let someone else control who you are
or what you do. Do what you feel is right and stick with it don't let anyone change the way you step
to your own beat. The repost asked, "'Whatcha gonna do if one of these pitchers throws for your
head?' Jackie Robinson Responded with, 'I'll duck'" (42). This quote is explaining that if people are
going to be mean to him that he is going to go around it or just ignore them. He doesn't want there to
be any problems with anyone he just wants to play baseball. The perseverance of these quotes its to
try and stay out of trouble with people and be good and being the better person no matter what.

Rationalizing Rejection in Sonnet 42
Sonnet 42: Rationalizing Rejection
Shakespeare's Sonnet 42 is about a man, the speaker, who is contemplating the loss of his lover to
his friend. The speaker is exploring the motive for his lover's choice of betrayal; more notably he is
attempting to explain why this betrayal has occurred with a series of different rationalizations. The
speaker appears to believe that he will not be as pained by his loss if he were to rationalize why his
lover betrayed him.
Shakespeare notoriously wrote three separate types of sonnets. The first set is Sonnets 1–126 which
discuss a young man and often deal with the element of time. Sonnet 42 falls into the "young man"
category and this character is present as the speaker's friend.
The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This rationalization has several flaws. First, the speaker shows a contradiction in line 5; the speaker
calls his betrayers, "loving offenders" yet says he will excuse the sinners. This is a contradiction
since he makes it a point to call them "offenders" while forgiving them in the same line.
Line 6 in the second quatrain is the thesis of the speaker's second attempt to rationalize and shows
yet another contradiction. The form of this line does not match with the rest of the sonnet in its
iambic pentameter form. Shakespeare uses this particular form to set the line apart from the rest of
the sonnet. The line's emphasis is on the fact that the young man only desires the speaker's lover
because he knew the speaker loved her as well. This has a double meaning which may be why
Shakespeare intended for it to stand out from the rest of the sonnet. First, the meaning could be just
as it reads; this is most likely the true motivation the young man had to in seeking the lover in order
to take her away from the speaker. Yet, the speaker attempts to excuse the young man's behavior by
giving a second meaning to the line saying in lines 7 and 8 that the betrayal was done for his own
sake in order to test the lover's faithfulness. This rationale is flawed here because in the event that

Inaccuracies In The Movie 42
The movie 42 is all about Jackie Robinson and his experience playing in the major leagues.
Robinson started on first base for the Dodgers, being the first team to play a black player in the since
the 1880's. Jackie Robinson and the Dodgers broke down a lot of barriers for African Americans in
the MLB. In the movie it shows his struggles that he went through during the season. There were
some changes in the film from what actually happened in real life, but its Hollywood what do you
expect. One error I did find in the film was when Robinson was hit in the head with a pitch thrown
by Fritz Ostermueller. The pitch really did hit him, but not in the head. The pitch actually hit him on
the elbow. Although the pitch could very well have hit him in the face though, if he didn't raise his
arm to protect himself. Fritz was ordered to take Robinson out, and he sure did try. Overall
Robinson ended up getting hit nine times in his rookie season. Another inaccuracy I found was when
Jackie was smashing his bat in the tunnel behind the Dodgers dugout. That scene never actually
happened in real life, but the racial slurs from Phillies manager Ben Chapman, which caused this
scene, did happen. Also, Dodger's manager Branch Rickey never consoled Jackie after this attack by
Chapmen. Chapman made the press after ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Smith really wanted to help Jackie. Smith wanted so badly to sit in the press box instead of in the

1945–1947. This true story, which was released April 12, 2013, followed what I had learned about
Jackie and stayed accurate while still being extremely entertaining. Jackie Robinson's number on his
jersey was 42, he wore that number his entire Major League career with the Brooklyn Dodgers. The

Jackie immediately tells the attendant to stop pumping gas into the team's bus. At which point, the
attendant backs down and lets Jackie use the restroom. That scene helped me to understand Jackie's
distain for discrimination. The next incident of segregation we witness involves Rachel, when she is
surprised to see a "whites only" sign on a women's restroom door at an airport in Florida. The
actress did a fantastic job of showing the shock and disbelief that Rachel expressed since she was
from Pasadena, California and had never been exposed to this type of racial discrimination.
When I first saw the cast, I was not quite sure what to expect. Two of the three leading roles, were
not household names. I had not seen or heard of the actor playing Jackie Robinson, nor had I heard
of the actress playing his wife Rachel Robinson. Chadwick Boseman did great in his portrayal of
Jackie as was Nicole Beharie playing the role of Rachel. The two of them on screen together made
for a great team. Chadwick was especially talented in his ability to show the anguish in his facial
expressions when he faced insults and injuries. Boseman's performance as a professional ballplayer,
loving husband, and father as well as a man that knows how to restrain himself when dealing with
racism on and off the field reflects his skill as an actor. Nicole Beharie plays a wife with the "it's us
against the world mentality," flawlessly. She seems perfect for the role of Rachel who is not

42: The Jackie Robinson's Story
In 1945, The United States of America dropped two atomic bombs on Japan. Once thousands of
lives were ended, Japan finally decided to surrender thus ending World War II. While all the men
were off at war, women took over the nation wide popular sport, baseball. This inspired the movie A
League of Their Own. Once the war ended however, men resumed their spot in Baseball. One man
who changed Baseball forever, was Jackie Robinson. This was before African Americans had just as
much rights as white men, and so an African American baseball player like Jackie Robinson was
very VERY frowned upon. That inspired a movie called, 42: The Jackie Robinson Story. I

Children In The Movie 42
In the movie 42, Jackie Robinson, the first African–American Major League Baseball player, walks
out onto the field. As he does, a roar of dissent crashes around him. A child, somewhat confused,
looks up at the people around him and his father, who is shouting obscenities, and begins to copy the
crowd by calling out racial slurs. This scene is an example of how children learn–they copy what
they see other people doing. It is excruciatingly important to realize that children can indirectly learn
xenophobia, the fear of what is perceived as strange or different, from a variety of sources. The toys

Cultures can be misrepresented. Women in various countries tend to have different values. Some
women would fight for independence, such as Disney's Mulan, but some women would not (Li,
2013). Furthermore, character design can be offensive to different groups of people. For instance,
the Black centaur serving a blonde, White centaur is offensive to Black people in Disney's Fantasia
(George, 2015). Therefore, part of the reason that children have xenophobia is that media misleads
children by showing different cultural aspects to the children through the host culture's thoughts,
sometimes showing underlying racism. A last possible root of xenophobia in children is schools.
First, classmates may treat each other differently according to what they learn at home, leading to
insults. Teachers may also influence this attitude by not helping children to understand cultural
differences. For instance, when Sherman Alexie passed out at a dance because of exhaustion, the
teacher assumed he had been drinking because he was Indian (Alexie, 2014). Overall, students
might learn the fear of differences through their peers or teachers in

The Voting Rights Act 42
SUMMARY The Voting Rights Act 42 U.S.C. §§ 1973 et seq., decision is important regarding the
laws governing voting rights and their relationship to minority voters. Its implication and effects
however does not end within the legal realms and dimensions but continues through to society,
culture, and human rights. The Voting Rights Act initially established in 1965 under Lyndon B.
Johnson's administration protected "racial minorities" from biased voting practices. It was a huge
stride in the civil rights movement and a victory over harmful, archaic, and biased voting practices
and traditions.
In 1973 Congress amended the Voting Rights Act and extended protections to members of
"languages minorities." The new language minorities' classification meant that the act's protection
now extended to voters non–English speaking minorities. These classifications included those who
spoke Spanish, Native American languages, Native Alaskan languages, and Asian languages. Some
of the changes to the new amendment within the Voting Rights Act prohibited literacy tests as a
requirement for voter registration. It also required jurisdictions with large minority language
speaking populations to have non–English speaking ballots as well as oral voting instructions that
conformed to the language minorities within their districts. Additionally, the new amendments to the
Voting Rights Act also protected minorities from voter dilution (the nullification of minority group

Jackie Robinson was not only a hall of famer, but one of the most important African Americans. The
film 42 is a biographical sports movie about Jackie Robinson. The film focuses on Jackie Robinson's
shift from a player in the Negro League to the Major League. The movie explains the struggles
Robinson had to face during these hard times. The film shows Robinson as becoming successful in
the Major League and making it to the 1947 World Series Game. Aside from minor details, the film
42 is accurate. Through clothing, people, and events, the movie is able to show how accurate it
actually is.
Seventy years ago, when he played for the Brooklyn Dodgers, Jackie Robinson was the biggest
story in the baseball world. (Henninger) From the start, Robinson was a skilled athlete. He lettered
in four sports at the University of California. In 1945, he started at shortstop in the Negro Leagues.
Those teams in the Negro league were separate from major league baseball. (Brown) The movie 42
is accurate with showing of the clothing the people were wearing. In the movie, the teams were not

Summary Of Sonnet 42 By Millay
In "Sonnet 42," Edna St Vincent Millay speaks of various love affairs coming to an end and the
forlorn and remorseful feelings linked to them. She expresses her longing attitude towards her lost
loves by employing melancholic diction, contrasting seasonal imagery, and natural metaphors. The
melancholic diction creates the longing attitude toward the speakers past loves in the poem. Words
such as "forgotten" (line 2) and "unremembered" (7) all stress the speaker's attitude because they
have negative connations that convey the remorseful and longing feelings. These words also are in
the past tense which portray the speaker's gloomy feelings when she reflects on the past and her love
interests back then. The melancholic diction is also associated with the seasonal imagery and natural
metaphors that are described throughout the poem. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The author first depicts winter imagery when describing the "lonely tree" (9) and how the birds have
all vanished because it evokes the image of a bare tree as all the birds have left and migrated south
for the winter. Winter is a cold, depressing season because everything is gone, the leaves, the birds,
the plants, just like the speakers love interests all have gone too. Thus the winter images add further
to the longing attitude of the speaker. Then, the author contrasts the winter imagery with summer
images. Summer is the season of joviality and lightheartedness, but the speaker states that what
"summer sang in me" (13) is gone, which infers that the speaker's happiness and lively spirit is gone
because all her past loves have left. The contrast between the descriptions of the two seasons, which
symbolize different feelings, highlights the speakers longing attitude for her past loves that have

The Movie 42 Essay
After watching the movie 42, I have learned the struggles the Jackie Robinson had to go through to
be a success baseball player in the 50´s. In the movie, it showed me the struggles he went through,
what people thought about Jackie playing, and the segregation that was going on throughout that
time in history. The most powerful scene in the movie in my opinion is, when Jackie Robinson got
pulled up the big leagues. Up until that point, white people and black people did not play on the
same team so many people would be hate for Jackie playing on a white people's team. In the scene,
the general manger of the Brooklyn Dodgers told Jackie that he wanted a strong player that could
not fight back than someone who would fight back. The manager knew

Matthew 24: 42-44
The central message from Matthew 24:42–44 is a warning that the followers of Christ should be
ready at all times for His return. Christians are instructed to be ever vigilant for the second coming
of Christ because it is not known when He will come. The story illustrated in this passage compares
Christ's coming to that of a thief in the night, and compares the followers of Christ to a homeowner.
The homeowner is commanded to keep watch because if the homeowner knew what time the thief
would come, the homeowner could always be ready. However, Christ's coming, like the thief, will
be unexpected, therefore Christians should always be ready. This passage reveals Christ's love for us
in warning us to always be ready for His return. He cares about us enough to prepare us for what is
to come, even though He cannot give us the day and the hour of His return.
In the passage immediately preceding Matthew 24:42–44, the theme of care and concern is
emphasized. Beginning in Matthew 24:4, Jesus outlines some of the signs that will be indicators of
the end of days, which is the time when He will come to judge the world. He warns of wars, rumors

Each of these stories involves a person or group of people who need to stay focused on a certain task
in order to be prepared for an unexpected event. The homeowner must keep watch, the virgins must
have their lamps ready to follow the bridegroom to the banquet and the servant must carry out the
job faithfully during the master's absence. In each story, those who are found to be faithful to Jesus's
teachings will be rewarded and will join Him in everlasting life. However, those who are not
prepared will suffer greatly and will be "cut ... to pieces and assign[ed] ... a place with the
hypocrites, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth" (Matthew

Essay on 42 Movie Summary
Megan Hetterick's 42 movie summary.
Jackie Robinson, 42, first black man to play on a team of all whites and make it to the world
championship. He rocks. His number is retired and people wear the number 42 on their jersey every
year for one day because of him. All of this information I got from the movie 42. The movie was
amazing and very good! In the beginning when it showed how he became selected was different
than what I imagined it would've been done. During the movie there were threats from white people
saying they'd come where Robinson lived and hurt him or something, so he left with the black
reporter guy who later became a part of the American Baseball Press or whatever it was called.
However, Robinson thought that he was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the very end of the movie it showed what the 'main' people did after the movie stopped. One
thing that I will say that bugged me and made me sad and disappointed was the part when the dad
and boy are in the stands and are excited fro Pee Wee to come out and then Robinson comes out and
the dad starts to yell "get out of here nigger! You don't belong here!" and the rest of the crowd does
the same and the kid looks confused and then joins in screaming the same things, but then Pee Wee
puts his arm around Robinson and the look on the boys face looked sad and disappointed in himself
or so. That scene made me sad and disappointed in the father for setting such an example for his son
and making him say something he was unsure of or however he felt about it. The look on the boys
face when Robinson came out and everyone including his dad started yelling at him and saying
those things, the boy looked a little scared or unsure and concerned about what to do and such.
Broke my heart a little, but it was what it was. Overall, amazing movie!! For sure a favorite!

Analysis Of The Movie 42
The movie 42 is a story about Jackie Robinson's life as a baseball player, and how he broke the
baseball color barrier by becoming the first African American player in the league. The story begins
with Wendell Smith giving the audience background information about the United States and their
segregation laws, and he brings it in comparison with baseball. He discusses how baseball was made
up of 16 professional teams of all white players, but then Robinson comes in the picture. The movie
then goes on to talk about Robinson's career on the Brooklyn Dodgers, but mentioning before his
time on the Kansas City Monarchs and the Montreal Royals. When Robinson advances to play with
the Dodgers some of his fellow players sign a petition saying they refuse to play with him, but as the
season progresses they become close friends with Robinson. Some examples of their kindness to
him include backing him up when the manager of the Phillies said some racial slurs to Robinson.
Another is when a Pittsburgh player hit him in the head, and his teammates stood up for him. The
movie ends with some facts about other African American players joining the league, and a
summary of the rest of Robinson's career. 42 enhances the audience's knowledge on what life was
like in the late 1940s in the United States for a black man, and it displays the brutal treatment they
received. In the beginning of the movie it talked about how if a black man served in the army they
could receive respect there, but when

Initiative 42 Argumentative Analysis
Initiative 42 is the result of nearly 200,000 Mississippians signing petitions to have an initiative
placed on the November ballot to amend the state Constitution. If passed, this citizen led initiative
will hold the Mississippi Legislature accountable for keeping its promise to fully fund public
schools, which the Legislature has only done twice in the past 18 years. That should be simple
enough, but Governor Phil Bryant, Lieutenant Governor Tate Reeves, and Speaker of the House
Phillip Gunn have used their power and position to help confuse the public about the Initiative.
Why? Such action is contrary to statements the Governor has made in the past regarding the public's
role in education. For example, in a December 2, 2014 article ... Show more content on

At a time, when Mississippi needs everyone working together to pull our state from the clutches of
poverty by creating an educated work force with more options than a minimal wage existence, it is
unbelievable we have elected officials who refuse to make education a priority. In a state as
untrusting of government as Mississippi, it is also beyond belief that the citizens would tolerate a
governor and state legislators who believe they are above the law. Of course, not all legislators
oppose fully funding education; there are a few supporters in the state house and senate. But, like
many citizens who support Initiative 42, they are less vocal and "in your face" than their
counterparts. Unfortunately, the old adage "the squeaky wheel gets the grease" may once again

Some would say "Yes" and some would say "No, it isn't." I think that 42 is not a good answer, but
many would ask, "What is the ultimate question?" It took Deep Thought over 7.5 million years to
find the answer to the ultimate question (42), but it doesn't know what the ultimate question is. Deep
Thought is a computer built by Loonquawl and Phouchg to answer the ultimate question. I don't

The number 3 may be described as time, which may be described as Past, Present, Future; Birth,

"Third time's a charm." This expression is very commonly used when attempting to accomplish a
task. The meaning of the ultimate question is to find the answer to life, the universe, and everything.
If 3 is a sacred number in many religions then that is what I believe is the answer to life, the
universe, and everything. The question to the answer 42, is told to be 6 x 8. What I think the
question should be "How many sides does geometrical figure have?" A geometrical figure is a
triangle. The correct number of sides on a triangle is 3. If you know what a triangle is you know that
it also has three vertices or angles. There are a lot of 3's involved in the triangle, and that is why I

hurtful abuses that targeted Robinson are known as social sin. Social sin is a buildup of sins that are
harmful to society and to individuals. In fact, many social sins present themselves in this film. For

The Gospel of Matthew is one of the synoptic gospels and the first book of the New Testament. I
will be looking specifically at Matthew 5:38–42, a passage that preaches peace and love in the face
of violence, but may also have a deeper underlying message. Although these verses are a part of the
broader section known as the Sermon on the Mount, a teaching that deals with many issues of
community living and faith, I believe this specific passage was an encouragement to the Jewish
Christian converts to not strike out against a dominant Roman power, but to instead embrace a
different path; a path of peace.

Helgeland merely touches on it by dragging out a few relatively minor events. The scenes of

lack of focus on historical perspective. Had Helgeland not copped out and taken a more Disney

and struggle to deal with continual hounding, fear, and severe racism while staying true to himself
and his family could have taken center stage and made a more personal and powerful take on his
early career. Aside from this, Helgeland seemed unclear how to best tackle the material. The film

Analysis Of ' 42 ' By Brian Helgeland
The movie, "42" is by Brian Helgeland with the actors Chadwick Boseman as Jackie Roosevelt

modern era. Harrison Ford as Branch Rickey, a Major League executive. Nicole Beharie as Rachel

the racism and segregation of him being black. In 1945, Brooklyn, New York, the bold well–known,
Major League executive, Branch Rickey signs an admirable magnificent baseball player, Jackie

Similarities: Segregation in Sports.

Problem Statement What price should Sierra partners offer for a 60% equity stake in Microarray
technologies, or what percentage of equity interest should they receive to be profitable if they pay
$40 million?
Decision Criteria Chu is willing to invest cash on the basis of his expectations for the cash flows.
Arcadian's management believes they can grow at a rate of 7% to infinity, but Chu believes a lower
rate is more likely. The price that Sierra offers to pay for the 60% equity interest in Arcadian must be
pleasing to management of Arcadian while not involving too much risk on Sierra's part. Our
decision criterion for the case is that our solution must have a return no less than our WACC of 20%.
Alternative Solutions Arcadian's management has used a very optimistic cash flow for their future
sales through 2015, but Chu had a much more pessimistic view on their upcoming cash flows. For
our solutions, we decided to look at the return that Sierra would receive on Arcadian using 3
different purchase prices. Instead of using the optimistic 7% rate that Arcadian had forecasted, we
cut the growth rate back to 4% to allow for inflation and growth in a more conservative manner. Are
three alternative solution are:
1) $40 million purchase price

Racism In The Movie 42
In the movie 42, there were many scenes that demonstrated blatant racism in which derogatory
comments were made toward Jackie Robinson. One of the most uncomfortable as well as
captivating scenes is one that involved a Caucasian man and his son. During one of the games when
Jackie's character entered the field, the father of the young boy was shown calling Jackie a
contemptuous term used for African Americans, which I prefer not to say. The father then went on
ranting, amongst other Dodger fans, that Robinson was not wanted nor welcomed to play in
Cincinnati where the game was being hosted. The son, after observing the responses of everyone
else followed suit by repeating everything that he heard his father say. In order to explain this event,
the concept of social learning is of great importance. As discussed in class, around ages 4–5 explicit
awareness for black and white racial groups are developed in children. The social learning theory

  • 3. Luke 38-42 Analysis Luke 10: 38–42" "Seated at the feet of Jesus. An Attitude of Servanthood and Discipleship" There are times when serving can become a distraction for us. When such occurs you keep your focus on Jesus. This passage of scripture begins with Jesus and his disciples who were on their journey to Jerusalem and entered into a certain village. In preparing this sermon, I read in Luke 9 verses 51–56 Jesus sent messengers ahead to prepare for him in a Samaritan village, but the Samaritans refused him because he was going to Jerusalem to do the will of his father. The Samaritans were Israelites and they were not the best of friends of the Jews at that time. 2nd Kings 17:24 says the Samaritans intermarried with people who were captured by the King of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Martha asked Jesus, didn't he care that she did all the work by herself? However, Martha was allowing her emotions to get in the way by worrying about the preparations. Although her emotions were trying to take control of the situation Jesus saw this. He told her not to be worried or anxious only a few things were needed. Our emotions are God–given and they are our servants and not our masters. Our emotions affect our character and how we act toward one another. Therefore, we cannot let our emotions dictate who we are. Here in this text, Jesus who is a servant of his father took time from his journey to have fellowship and to teach the word of God. Romans 10:15 says: "And how can anyone preach unless they are sent?" As it is written, "How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news." If Jesus took the time why can't you? What have you allowed to take precedence in your life more than spending time in the presence of Jesus? Do not allow distractions of anger, un–forgiveness, and negative talk keep you from the word of God. Mary demonstrated true discipleship when Jesus entered the house and sat at his feet. When we humbly submit ourselves at the feet of Jesus, under his word, his Holy Spirit will dwell within us and guide us into all ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Essay On The Door 42 Door #42 I don't know exactly how it started. I woke up on the concrete ground, and the smell of copper and mildew invaded my nose. I eventually sat up and begin moving my limbs around to make sure I wasn't hurt. While stretching out my back, I heard a rustling in the corner. A human, based on the outline. I slowly stood up and crept over to them. Sitting up, I could tell it was a boy, and a scared one at that. He stood up and looked at me with wide frightened eyes. "I'm Beau. Who are you? Why am I he...?'' His voice drifted away as he took in the situation. "'Mason. I don't know where we are, but we are gonna get out."' Beau slowly stood up and begin brushing himself off and I did the same. Looking around the room, I saw that one side ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Suddenly a person fell from the darkness in the high ceiling, landing with a sickening crunch on the ground. They had made no sound falling, and certainly wouldn't be making any noise now. Beau began crying and clutching his chest. "Beau, I'm gonna get us out I promise. You have to be quiet or someone will hear us." Stepping over piles of bones and puddles, we found out doors ringed the floor level, Each one about four steps apart. They all had numbers on them, from #1–#70. All of them had a padlock on them. They were all shaped and colored differently, some rotting and falling apart and others looked brand new. We eventually came across a yellowed paper on the wall with a riddle on it. "'Use your brain to play this game, or we will take it from you and isn't that such a shame? In this room is the key, if you find it you're halfway free. Choose the wrong door, you will regret it for sure..."' I looked around the chamber and decided I would look in the cages first for the key. I went halfway up the stairs, and leaped onto the nearest one and reached through the bars and began sifting through bones. I lept from cage to cage, sifting through bones and running my fingers through the puddles. I found the key in a cage that was above door #33. I made my way back to the stairs and showed Beau the key. "'Which door do you want Beau?'' "17." #17 was a deep burgundy with a gold handle. I took a deep breath and put the key in the lock. It ... Analysis Of 42 By Jackie Robinson 42 42 is a story about Jackie Robinson, the renowned baseball player who broke the colour barrier by becoming the first African–American to join the roster of the Brooklyn Dodgers ("42"). It portrays the struggles, mainly racism, Robinson had to go through while he was in the baseball team and how he managed to overcome them. The world is a constantly judgmental place. You can admire the imagery if you are reading it secularly or religiously. Anybody can enjoy the imagery of this Psalm. People that range from everyday people to scholars at prestigious schools study the Psalms. The Psalms are very admirable because they display the imagery so well. It is very easy for people to understand what the psalms are. One of the lines that give us a very good image is verse ten "As with a sword in my bones, my enemies reproach me (27)". In this verse the sword represents past people that have made fun of him and teased him for being close to and a follower of God. He is weak because of the sword. He also becomes weaker because his enemies keep striking with insults when he is already down. While they are attacking him they keep saying "Where is thy God" (28). Another verse that conveys good imagery in this Psalm is "My tears have been my meat day and night" (5). He is feeding on his own tears. He is not having any food because he is mad with himself. He wants to fast because he wants to get closer to God. He feels far away from God. Throughout the Psalm they describe nature in many different aspects. The poet describes the water in some verses. "As the hart panteth after the water brooks" (1). The deer is thirsty for water and finds it. He also describes the area of a land. He uses phrases such as "the land of Jordan (17)" and "from the hill of Mizar (18)". These are names of real places during this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Barriers In The Movie 42 No, this isn't a blog post about The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. In reality, this week's blog post is about the movie 42, a film encompassing the highs and lows of Jackie Robinson's baseball career. It is personal story of courage, triumph, and achievement that focuses on the extent of racism in the 1940s. If you want to check out the movie, here is the trailer. This movie showcased the numerous barriers for people of colour and essentially any race with exception of those who are white. Jackie Robinson was especially targeted due to the fact that he was the first black baseball player to play in the MLB. Despite the various individuals who supported the change in western culture, there were many who made the transition difficult by applying many barriers such as segregation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... That's how many black baseball players were in the MLB before Jackie Robinson. He was the first, and to say he encountered a few barriers, would most likely be the understatement of the century. Jackie Robinson was ridiculed and taunted relentlessly by people who honestly thought they were better than him. Segregation was a constant reminder of how people viewed him. The constant threat of being hit on purpose by the pitcher hovered over him during every game. People who came to see the games booed and hissed at him while setting foolish examples for their children. Team mates signed a petition to have him removed from the team simply because he did not posses the same colour skin as them. The list goes on. Perhaps the most infuriating thing however, was his need for a thick skin, his inability to react to the injustices for fear the journalists would spin the story into something regarding an outburst due to the colour of his skin, thus resulting in him leaving the league. His ability to communicate, to express his feeling was revoked and personally, I believe that is one of the worst things you can do to a person. But it's 2015, who cares about that now, right? ... • 15. 42 Film Analysis In 2013, 42 was released as a motion picture under the direction of Brian Helgeland ("42"). The film focuses its attention on the unprecedented sports career of the African American Major League baseball player, Jackie Robinson. In addition, the main focal point of the film was to emphasize the horrors of racial segregation and to reveal how that ultimately affected the lives of all African Americans. Therefore, the overall plot portrays the honorary story of a talented young man as he bravely overcomes adversity and racism in order to be viewed as an equal in sports and in society. Nevertheless, the main characters include: Jackie Robinson, Branch Rickey, Rachel Robinson, Leo Durocher, Pee Wee Reese, Wendell Smith, Red Barber, and Ben Chapman ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, African Americans were lawfully forbidden from using the same bathrooms as whites, sitting with whites on buses and airplanes, and even kept them from playing on the same sports teams. Therefore, this significantly affected the athletic career of Jackie Robinson, where he was obliged to play on and all–black baseball team, despite the fact that he was talented enough to be playing on a Major League team. However, when he is invited by sports executive, Branch Rickey, to try out for the Montreal Royals, Jackie was forced to face unimaginable racism and seclusion not only by fans, but by his team as well. Eventually, Jackie's talent earns him a spot on the Major League team, the Brooklyn Dodgers, which ultimately enhances the threats and harassment. Given this information, some of the key historical events and turning points that are emphasized in this film include: Rickey inviting Jackie to attend the spring baseball training; Jackie earning a spot on the Montreal Royals; Jackie's successful season with the Royals; earning a spot to play with the Brooklyn Dodgers; the game against the Philadelphia Phillies, where manager Ben Chapman, tormented Jackie with racial slurs and insults during the entire game; when Jackie is finally accepted and respected by his ... • 17. The Film 42: The Divide In Baseball 42: The Divide in Baseball Race has always been an issue long deep rooted in American history. The film 42, reflects its own issue of race within sports. It was directed by Brian Helgeland and was released on April 12, 2013. To begin, the film 42 starts off with an idea from the owner of the Dodgers, Branch Rickey. In the year 1946, he decides to search and recruit the first African– American baseball player to participate in the Major League of baseball. A young man by the name of Jackie Robinson who never backs down from racism, although he plays for the "Negro League". Rickey chooses Jackie to break down the unspoken rule of not allowing black players play in Baseball with the current Major league of Baseball that is only "for" white men. The idea is not easily accepted by the rest of baseball. Jackie, along with his wife receive major ridicule and relentless racism from stadium crowds to teammates. Robinson learns to overcome his urges to fight back against racism and let the owners or teammates assist him when he leasts expects it. • 19. The Similarities Between Walden And 42 Jackie Robinson was the first ever African American to ever play in Major League Baseball. This caused a major change in Major League Baseball history because he was the first one to play in a all white league. He had to deal with a lot of people being mean to him and trying to hurt him and also trying to get him to lash out at people so that he could get kicked out of the MLB. This theme can be seen in the work of Henry David Thoreau. An example of this theme can be seen in the movie 42. • 21. Rationalizing Rejection in Sonnet 42 Sonnet 42: Rationalizing Rejection Shakespeare's Sonnet 42 is about a man, the speaker, who is contemplating the loss of his lover to his friend. The speaker is exploring the motive for his lover's choice of betrayal; more notably he is attempting to explain why this betrayal has occurred with a series of different rationalizations. The speaker appears to believe that he will not be as pained by his loss if he were to rationalize why his lover betrayed him. Shakespeare notoriously wrote three separate types of sonnets. The first set is Sonnets 1–126 which discuss a young man and often deal with the element of time. Sonnet 42 falls into the "young man" category and this character is present as the speaker's friend. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This rationalization has several flaws. First, the speaker shows a contradiction in line 5; the speaker calls his betrayers, "loving offenders" yet says he will excuse the sinners. This is a contradiction since he makes it a point to call them "offenders" while forgiving them in the same line. Line 6 in the second quatrain is the thesis of the speaker's second attempt to rationalize and shows yet another contradiction. The form of this line does not match with the rest of the sonnet in its iambic pentameter form. Shakespeare uses this particular form to set the line apart from the rest of the sonnet. The line's emphasis is on the fact that the young man only desires the speaker's lover because he knew the speaker loved her as well. This has a double meaning which may be why Shakespeare intended for it to stand out from the rest of the sonnet. First, the meaning could be just as it reads; this is most likely the true motivation the young man had to in seeking the lover in order to take her away from the speaker. Yet, the speaker attempts to excuse the young man's behavior by giving a second meaning to the line saying in lines 7 and 8 that the betrayal was done for his own sake in order to test the lover's faithfulness. This rationale is flawed here because in the event that the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Robinson started on first base for the Dodgers, being the first team to play a black player in the since the 1880's. Jackie Robinson and the Dodgers broke down a lot of barriers for African Americans in the MLB. In the movie it shows his struggles that he went through during the season. There were some changes in the film from what actually happened in real life, but its Hollywood what do you expect. One error I did find in the film was when Robinson was hit in the head with a pitch thrown by Fritz Ostermueller. The pitch really did hit him, but not in the head. The pitch actually hit him on the elbow. Although the pitch could very well have hit him in the face though, if he didn't raise his arm to protect himself. Fritz was ordered to take Robinson out, and he sure did try. Overall Robinson ended up getting hit nine times in his rookie season. Another inaccuracy I found was when Jackie was smashing his bat in the tunnel behind the Dodgers dugout. That scene never actually happened in real life, but the racial slurs from Phillies manager Ben Chapman, which caused this scene, did happen. Also, Dodger's manager Branch Rickey never consoled Jackie after this attack by Chapmen. Chapman made the press after ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The actress did a fantastic job of showing the shock and disbelief that Rachel expressed since she was from Pasadena, California and had never been exposed to this type of racial discrimination. When I first saw the cast, I was not quite sure what to expect. Two of the three leading roles, were not household names. I had not seen or heard of the actor playing Jackie Robinson, nor had I heard of the actress playing his wife Rachel Robinson. Chadwick Boseman did great in his portrayal of Jackie as was Nicole Beharie playing the role of Rachel. The two of them on screen together made for a great team. Chadwick was especially talented in his ability to show the anguish in his facial expressions when he faced insults and injuries. A child, somewhat confused, looks up at the people around him and his father, who is shouting obscenities, and begins to copy the crowd by calling out racial slurs. This scene is an example of how children learn–they copy what they see other people doing. For instance, the Black centaur serving a blonde, White centaur is offensive to Black people in Disney's Fantasia (George, 2015). Therefore, part of the reason that children have xenophobia is that media misleads children by showing different cultural aspects to the children through the host culture's thoughts, sometimes showing underlying racism. A last possible root of xenophobia in children is schools. First, classmates may treat each other differently according to what they learn at home, leading to insults. Teachers may also influence this attitude by not helping children to understand cultural differences. • 33. The Voting Rights Act 42 SUMMARY The Voting Rights Act 42 U.S.C. §§ 1973 et seq., decision is important regarding the laws governing voting rights and their relationship to minority voters. Its implication and effects however does not end within the legal realms and dimensions but continues through to society, culture, and human rights. The Voting Rights Act initially established in 1965 under Lyndon B. Johnson's administration protected "racial minorities" from biased voting practices. It was a huge stride in the civil rights movement and a victory over harmful, archaic, and biased voting practices and traditions. In 1973 Congress amended the Voting Rights Act and extended protections to members of "languages minorities." The new language minorities' classification meant that the act's protection now extended to voters non–English speaking minorities. These classifications included those who spoke Spanish, Native American languages, Native Alaskan languages, and Asian languages. Some of the changes to the new amendment within the Voting Rights Act prohibited literacy tests as a requirement for voter registration. It also required jurisdictions with large minority language speaking populations to have non–English speaking ballots as well as oral voting instructions that conformed to the language minorities within their districts. Additionally, the new amendments to the Voting Rights Act also protected minorities from voter dilution (the nullification of minority group votes through a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

She expresses her longing attitude towards her lost loves by employing melancholic diction, contrasting seasonal imagery, and natural metaphors. The melancholic diction creates the longing attitude toward the speakers past loves in the poem. Words such as "forgotten" (line 2) and "unremembered" (7) all stress the speaker's attitude because they have negative connations that convey the remorseful and longing feelings. These words also are in the past tense which portray the speaker's gloomy feelings when she reflects on the past and her love interests back then. Thus the winter images add further to the longing attitude of the speaker. Then, the author contrasts the winter imagery with summer images. Christians are instructed to be ever vigilant for the second coming of Christ because it is not known when He will come. The story illustrated in this passage compares Christ's coming to that of a thief in the night, and compares the followers of Christ to a homeowner. The homeowner is commanded to keep watch because if the homeowner knew what time the thief would come, the homeowner could always be ready. However, Christ's coming, like the thief, will be unexpected, therefore Christians should always be ready. This passage reveals Christ's love for us in warning us to always be ready for His return. He cares about us enough to prepare us for what is to come, even though He cannot give us the day and the hour of His return. In the passage immediately preceding Matthew 24:42–44, the theme of care and concern is emphasized. Analysis Of The Movie 42 The movie 42 is a story about Jackie Robinson's life as a baseball player, and how he broke the baseball color barrier by becoming the first African American player in the league. The story begins with Wendell Smith giving the audience background information about the United States and their segregation laws, and he brings it in comparison with baseball. He discusses how baseball was made up of 16 professional teams of all white players, but then Robinson comes in the picture. The movie then goes on to talk about Robinson's career on the Brooklyn Dodgers, but mentioning before his time on the Kansas City Monarchs and the Montreal Royals. When Robinson advances to play with the Dodgers some of his fellow players sign a petition saying they refuse to play with him, but as the season progresses they become close friends with Robinson. Some examples of their kindness to him include backing him up when the manager of the Phillies said some racial slurs to Robinson. Another is when a Pittsburgh player hit him in the head, and his teammates stood up for him. The movie ends with some facts about other African American players joining the league, and a summary of the rest of Robinson's career. 42 enhances the audience's knowledge on what life was like in the late 1940s in the United States for a black man, and it displays the brutal treatment they received. The movie is based during the year 1947, which can be considered as the peck of racial discrimination. The movie displays scenes of Jackie's life and the struggle of a black individual in America. As I was watching this film Du Bois's theories are a perfect fit for this movie. With that being said, the first theory presented in the film was color line. For instance, in the film there are various of scenes in which there are signs where it states, "white only" and "colored". One particular scene that stood out to me was when Jackie and his wife were in the airport and she had to use the restroom. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, the cycle of oppression is presented throughout the movie as well. Throughout the film Jackie was called a nigger which refers to an African American. One particular scene that stood out to me was when he was up to bat and the opposing team's manager kept stereotyping him and using the phrase "nigger against him. During this particle time, the word nigger was used in public towards all African American's. In today's society, it is rare to hear that word especially towards an African American. With that being said, it demonstrates our nation is moving away from discrimination. Another particular scene that stood out to me was when Jackie was in Florida for a baseball game. During this scene, he was housed with a team associate. While he was asleep a group of white males arrived at the place Jackie was resting and threated them before things get worse. Another import situation that occurred in the film was when Jackie's team arrived to check into hotels they were denied because Jackie was black. Although Jackie was the only black player they were still denied since they were supporting Jackie. Hence, the film "42" displays various of Du Bois theories. For instance, the color line, the cycle of oppression and the double consciousness ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 62. Social Sin In The Movie 42 The movie, 42, displays multiple examples of social sin in the late 1940s. Jackie Robinson is the first African American to play in the Major Leagues, which had a huge part in breaking the color barrier in sports. Because of his courageous act, he was discriminated and verbally abused. These hurtful abuses that targeted Robinson are known as social sin. Social sin is a buildup of sins that are harmful to society and to individuals. In fact, many social sins present themselves in this film. For example, when the Dodgers played multiple teams, the fans would shout vulgar comments at Robinson. When one person would shout something at Robinson, more people would join them. I will be looking specifically at Matthew 5:38–42, a passage that preaches peace and love in the face of violence, but may also have a deeper underlying message. Although these verses are a part of the broader section known as the Sermon on the Mount, a teaching that deals with many issues of community living and faith, I believe this specific passage was an encouragement to the Jewish Christian converts to not strike out against a dominant Roman power, but to instead embrace a different path; a path of peace. The Jews who identified with the new movement of Jesus followers were in the midst of a great change at the time the Gospel of Matthew was written. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The heavy burden of Rome was seen as an insult to those who saw this land as rightly theirs. But the author of Matthew did not want to add to the conflict. He records Jesus' words to help ease tensions between the two groups. "And if anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, hand over your coat as well." (Matthew 5:40) The author wanted these Jews to do the same. Give everything you own if that's what it takes to reach peace and safety, even the land that is so sacred to you. • 66. Jackie Robinson Movie 42 The new film chronicling the rise of Jackie Robinson,42, was released to positive reviews but mediocre box office results. The film kicks off with a scene of Robinson lighting a fire under the Negro Leagues as a member of the Kansas City Monarchs. With Brooklyn Dodgers GM Branch Rickey looking to put people in the seats with a pennant–contender taking the field, he breaks baseball's color barrier and selects Robinson to be the vessel for social change, making sure he realizes the gravity of his circumstances before agreeing. The film is half–heartedly kind to baseball history, portraying events accurately, but only to the degree it chose to portray them, but the issue lies within the lack of courage of writer and director Brian Helgeland, who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He was hounded on a daily basis from city to city, but instead of letting this drive the film, Helgeland merely touches on it by dragging out a few relatively minor events. The scenes of Philadelphia Phillies manager Ben Chapman taunting Robinson were not special in and of themselves, as they were truly one in a million, but Helgeland drew them out to compensate for the lack of focus on historical perspective. Had Helgeland not copped out and taken a more Disney approach, where big blasts and slick swipes of second are the clichéd focus, Robinson's mental state and struggle to deal with continual hounding, fear, and severe racism while staying true to himself and his family could have taken center stage and made a more personal and powerful take on his early career. Aside from this, Helgeland seemed unclear how to best tackle the material. The film runs for just over two hours, without any concise direction or focus ever established, and, because of this, there's no point ever being made. The movie leaps from Robinson's minor league debut to his call to the majors without any attention to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In Brian Helgeland film "42" it played a huge role which demonstrated what happened after World War II ended. In the film "42" actor Harrison Ford played the role of Rickey Branch, who was the manager of the Brooklyn Dodgers. Rickey recruited Chadwick Boseman who played the role of the first African American major league baseball player known as Jackie Robinson. Rickey was all about the money which meant he did not see black or white, he only saw green. Segregation in sports was major and it only got worse the day Branch Rickey recruited Robeson. For example, in the film there was a scene that shows a white man yelling at Jackie, calling him a "Nigger" with his son right beside him. The man's son soon caught on at began to call Jackie a "Nigger" as well but when the boys favorite team member hugged Jackie you could notice the guilt or confusion the young boy had because the man he looked up to was hugging on a "Nigger". Another example was the rule that was set to prevent colored people to play baseball with the white, that role was like what happened in real life baseball. • 72. Case 42 Essay Introduction Sierra Capital Partners is an investment company in Albuquerque, New Mexico. They were organized in 1974 as a hedge fund, and quickly grew over the years with great success in private equity investments. Sierra focused primarily on the life sciences sector. In the early 2000's, Sierra was burned by many young firms' new discoveries that failed to work out. Their new motto for evaluating investments became, "NRDO: no research, development only." Arcadian Microarray Technologies was founded in 2003 by research scientists, some of whom were previously involved in a very successful project called the Human Genome Project. Those scientists helped find links between variations in a person's genetic code and their predisposition ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Problem Statement What price should Sierra partners offer for a 60% equity stake in Microarray technologies, or what percentage of equity interest should they receive to be profitable if they pay $40 million? Decision Criteria Chu is willing to invest cash on the basis of his expectations for the cash flows. Arcadian's management believes they can grow at a rate of 7% to infinity, but Chu believes a lower rate is more likely. The price that Sierra offers to pay for the 60% equity interest in Arcadian must be pleasing to management of Arcadian while not involving too much risk on Sierra's part. Our decision criterion for the case is that our solution must have a return no less than our WACC of 20%. Alternative Solutions Arcadian's management has used a very optimistic cash flow for their future sales through 2015, but Chu had a much more pessimistic view on their upcoming cash flows. For our solutions, we decided to look at the return that Sierra would receive on Arcadian using 3 different purchase prices. Instead of using the optimistic 7% rate that Arcadian had forecasted, we cut the growth rate back to 4% to allow for inflation and growth in a more conservative manner. • 78. Racism In The Movie 42 In the movie 42, there were many scenes that demonstrated blatant racism in which derogatory comments were made toward Jackie Robinson. One of the most uncomfortable as well as captivating scenes is one that involved a Caucasian man and his son. During one of the games when Jackie's character entered the field, the father of the young boy was shown calling Jackie a contemptuous term used for African Americans, which I prefer not to say. The father then went on ranting, amongst other Dodger fans, that Robinson was not wanted nor welcomed to play in Cincinnati where the game was being hosted. The son, after observing the responses of everyone else followed suit by repeating everything that he heard his father say. In order to explain this event, the concept of social learning is of great importance. As discussed in class, around ages 4–5 explicit awareness for black and white racial groups are developed in children. The social learning theory suggest that individuals learn by simply observing the actions of others.
