An Introduction to Business Essay
An Introduction to Business
Business plays a major role within our society. It is a creative and competitive activity that
continuously contributes to the shaping of our society. By satisfying the needs and wants people
cannot satisfy themselves, businesses improve the quality of life for people and create a higher
standard of living.
It is a way for individuals to provide goods and services to consumers, and at the same time, produce
a profit for themselves. Businesses are not only important because they provide goods and services
for consumers, but they also improve the economy and increase jobs for people within society
which is an additional fact producing a higher standard of living. To measure our societies standard of

Finally, the conservation of energy is so that there are a sufficient amount of natural resources
necessary to produce goods. General economic growth or stagnation also has an important influence
on business within our society. Many factors can affect it's condition, such as war, new inventions
and technology, political assassinations, the discovery of physical and natural resources, labor
negotiations, government action, and many others. When the economy is strong and the demand is
high, businesses can prosper. Regardless of how great the economy may become, businesses still
must compete with other firms for scarce raw materials and labor.
A businesses environment creates many opportunities as well as problems for prospering businesses.
The environment determines what a business can do by shaping and channeling its development.
Businesses function within an environment by allowing entrepreneurs to raise capital and create
profits freely. The supply of money available within a business as well as the economic stability
through times of growth and recession have strong effects on businesses. Not only is the physical
environment, including natural resources, pollution and energy as discussed previously, important,
but many other

Business Communication Essay example
Business communication needs to become interpersonal again. No matter how we believe our
human forms came into existence, we were built to need personal contact and function best with
face–to–face communication. As children, we desired comfort from touch, a hug from our mothers.
As teenagers, we held hands with our boyfriend or girlfriend. As adults in the workforce, we still
need to feel that connection and comfort with our families and the people we work with. As Susan
RoAne (2008), owner of a speaking, consulting, and coaching business, discusses one way we feel
this connection is through getting to know and building trust by communicating in–person. Through
this interpersonal interaction, we not only feel more comfortable around...show more content...
For the greatest success of the business, employees need interpersonal communication to connect
with their co–workers. A leadership expert, John C. Maxwell (2010) says: "Connecting goes beyond
words." (p. 41). Physically being in the same room, verbally speaking thoughts, engaging in eye
contact, and being able to see nonverbal responses are all important and add to a person's
understanding of the message being communicated and feeling a connection. Overall,
communicating face–to–face is more natural for employees. An employee knows who is hearing
what they are saying and seeing their nonverbal gestures. The employee can either get immediate
feedback whether or not the person understands or agrees or disagrees. The communication does not
have to be formatted as it does on paper. An employee should still present themselves professionally,
but communicating face–to–face is a process, instead of format.
Through in–person communication, employees will be able to not only build needed connections,
but relationships and trust with co–workers in the business. Maslow's hierarchy of needs is like a
staircase, a person needs to satisfy the lower stairs to easily reach and fulfill the higher staircases.

Reflection
It is important to know how to do well at business writing, because we will use this kind of writing
skills when we are working as business man or woman. Professor Thieme shares many useful key
points about how to write, imparting her knowledge so patience to us. I learned a lot knowledge in
ENG 302, and I am so proud of being one of student in this class.
Our first project is to write a claim email, it is an email about a phone can't work as usual, I should
complain this problem to the Quality Electronics company. In the first draft I did not well, because I
not read the evaluation of complaint email, and I just wrote what I want. After professor Thieme
helped me to revise my first project, then I know I did many mistakes in structure and content of
body paragraph. So, I revised and learned the body paragraph is an important part of a claim letter,
because it contains what happened and what the results I want to get. It is hard to write a good essay
before take ENG 302, even I don't know how to build an appropriate structure. Therefore, I try my
best to practice how to write a good structure essay.
Another problem that I did not very well in claim letter is I used to much negative words. From the
instruction of the claim letter, "The tone of the claim letter is important. The most effective
complaint letters do not sound complaining, angry, or annoyed". So, do not use negative words is
the second key point I learned in how to write a good business essay.

Lesson 14
Business Correspondence
In our day to–day life we exchange our ideas, thoughts and other information with our friends,
relatives and other people. Sometimes we directly talk to them and sometimes we also write letters
to them. In letters we express our feelings in a few words, we may ask for any information or we
may write about a complaint in connection with our problems. Similarly businessmen also exchange
ideas, information by writing letters. They communicate business information to customers,
suppliers and others and at the same time receive a variety of letters from them. In this lesson let us
know about different types of letters used in the process of business transactions.

Business requires information regarding competing products, prevailing prices, promotion, market
activities, etc. If the trader has to run from place to place to get information, he will end up doing
nothing. It will simply result in loss of time. But through business letters, he can make all enquiries
about the products and the markets. He can also receive orders from different countries and, thus
enhance sales.

Essay about A Good Business
A Good Business What the characteristics of a good business looks like?
The basic element of a good business is derived from good management. It is true since business is
run by individuals known as managers that perform specific business functions, such as
manufacturing and production, finance and accounting, sales and marketing, and human resource
departments. Identifying a good business is not an easy job; an understanding of Managerial
Economics is needed because it provides some tools, techniques of analysis and Economic concepts
to make good managerial decisions. The purpose of this paper is to identify some characteristics of a
good business and list names of the companies having these certain characteristics.

When a firm's sales reach its peak, it works as a signal that new firms start to enter the markets and
the firm's sales and profit will start to decline. In this case, the role of management is very essential.
The firm has to manage its expansion plan, such as launch new products and entrance a new market
in order to compete with its competitors.
The most common and useful measurement of a good business is by calculating its profit through
return on stockholder's equity (ROE). ROE shows how much return that stockholders have earned
on the capital that have been invested by stockholders into a business. Net Income ROE =
________________ Stockholder's Equity
High rates of return on stockholder's equity indicate a good business performance and also high
growth rate of sales.
Besides steady growth of sales and high rates of return on equity, a good business must also have
strong brand equity. It is important for a firm to create an image of its products on buyer's mind so
that buyers become loyal to the firm's brand. Strong brand equity also generates higher profit since
consumers want to pay more because of the reputation that the product have; moreover, it works as a

Essay on The Complaint Letter
Service is the most important aspect when it comes to handling a hotel. A hotel's main objective is
to provide the best service and tend to all of the guests' needs and requirements. If there is no service
then there would be no business. When running a business, the costumer is always placed first. Poor
services can results in a complaint from a guest. But that complaint can be used to better the business
in the future.
There are many issues that Mr. Metz should be concerned with when it comes to running the ATMI
hotel. It is the general manager's job to make sure the guests are being pampered and taken cared of.
The most apparent issue that the guests; Dr. Hankins and his wife had was the lack of cleanliness in
the room. A hotel's...show more content...
Hankins did not even want to speak with the manager; he just wanted a room. Further poor
customer service was displayed when the operator did not tend to Dr. Hankins' needs, and forcefully
insisted his opinion that Dr. Hankins should talk to his manager. Mr. Metz needs to review the rules
of how to properly deal with the guests and their requirements to the employees. Aside from the
operator's lack of responsibility, the manager did not show any professional behaviour towards the
guests. After listening to Dr. Hankins' problem, the night manager did not approach him with a
resolution as he promised. As a result of inadequate service and unprofessional behaviour, the
Hankins wasted their time in waiting for a solution. An additional problematic area that should be
looked into is the way the members in the staff treat each other. When Dr. Hankins brought the
predicament up with the receptionist, the receptionist went and yelled at his/her co–worker in front
of the guests. This surely shows how poorly behaved the receptionist have conducted him/herself. It
was not solved in a mannerly order and for that reason alone, is a problem.
The evidence in the letter is credible because Dr. Hankins certainly did testify the problems that
have occurred during his stay at the hotel. Dr. Hankins presented and expressed himself rationally
from beginning to end of the letter. In the letter, he did not sound angry nor did he sound like he
wanted compensation for his bad

and creative thinker, and for you to write essays that are finished products of high quality.
An essay must turn a question into a quest, to borrow the words of the writer John Fowles. A truly
engaging essay shows the movement of the writer's thinking–every new piece of evidence becomes

In order to receive a grade for each final essay, you must complete the writing assignments that lead
up to the essay. In other words, assigned writing exercises are a prerequisite to writing each final
essay.
Grades:
A work gives the reader a positive impression of excellence in all listed standards.
B work gives the reader a positive impression of general superiority in all listed standards.
C work is average in each standard.
D or F work is seriously deficient in one or more of the listed standards.
Final Grade:

Class participation/portfolio: 10%
Due Dates and Late Papers: Late papers will lose half a letter grade per class until they're turned
in (more than two weeks late will result in an F). At the end of each progression, please put all
exercises and drafts in a folder with your final essay on top, and turn the whole thing in
portfolio–style.
Attendance and Participation: Preparation, attendance, and speaking during discussions are all
important parts of the class. Much of the learning in writing courses occurs through active discussion
and in–class writing rather than through lectures. Therefore, to do well, you'll need to show up
literally and figuratively. More than two un–excused absences will most likely lower your final
grade; more than four absences will put you at a severe disadvantage in the course, because the work

How To Start A Business Essay
In this report, I will discuss what it takes to own your own business and what factors go into it.
My overall dream some day is to own my own business and with this comes a great deal of
responsibility. I will help you understand what you can to do to become a successful business owner.
Finding a consistent well paying job has been getting harder and harder in recent years. A number of
new and great business opportunities are available to the public. These opportunities only cash in if
you run a well rounded business plan. Anything from wholesaling vehicles to owning your own
pizza parlor are great starts in business. Although, owning and operating a business is a great burden
on a person, it can turn out to be very profitable.

With all of these challenges their come failure at the job as well, which can lead to disciplinary
action, arguments, transfers, dismissals, or legal actions. So are you ready to own your own
business yet? Not quite! Some things you really need to remember.
Say goodbye to a reliable and predictable income. No job is 100% secure and there is a good
argument that being in control of your income via your own small business is more secure than a job
however it doesn't feel like that, especially when you start out. You can have great months and bad
months and the only constant is unpredictability. Many business owners don't know that they will
never make real money until they sell their business.
Unfortunately many business owners often don't make much more than an average salary, even
sometimes less. Many business owners don't make a big windfall until they sell their business and
often by the time they are making the sale they will be using the money for retirement. Although it is
also true that the only way to become really wealthy, besides inheritance and lotto, is by starting your
own business.
The reality is that only a small percentage of businesses make their owner really wealthy, the rest
stumble along earning an average wage. Of course many of those owners earning an average wage
love their lifestyle and only wok as hard as they want to. Running your own business has the greatest
potential to make you rich and my never make you rich,

Cultures surrounding businesses also play a major role. Abusiness must adapt to a changing society
with age, lifestyle, culture and location. When a business learns to adapt to these changes, it will be
profitable for both the business and consumers. Economic systems can be classified into three
categories. These include capitalism, socialism and communism. Pure capitalism is an unrestrained
freedom to buy, sell and compete. Private enterprises allow entrepreneurs to run businesses without
central government control and can operate within a free market. Capitalism is a system of true
private enterprise. Some aspects of capitalism are free choice, private ownership, private profit and
free competition. The only drawback of this type of system is that a company can operate with no
competition thereby creating a monopoly unfavorable for consumers. Socialism, on the other hand,
is a system where the production and distribution of industries are owned and operated by the
government. Officials directly manage some or all of the extraction of raw materials, manufacturing,
communication and transportation. This system is loosely regulated by the government. Finally,
communism replaces the operation of a free market almost entirely. Most of the rights enjoyed
within the capitalist system are denied and private ownership is prohibited. Business are controlled
by state planners and competition is almost

Starting a Business Online Essay
1.Identify the advantages and disadvantages of taking your small business online by performing a
SWOT analysis. Include 2–4 items in each category.
What is a SWOT analysis? It is an evaluation of strengths and weaknesses of a business unit and
identification of opportunities presented by the markets of business units and threats posed by
competitors. Strength, Weakness, Opportunities and Threats is what the letters of SWOT resemble
(Schneider 2001 page 32).. Inside a business are where the strengths and weaknesses are found and
what each business is capable of handling. Opportunities and threats are located outside a company
and are based on the real world (Zahorsky 2011). Starting a business online and moving forward is a

One is forcing organizations to accumulate lists of how to achieve certain objectives. Making
uncritical lists without clear prioritization is an example of how weak opportunities might appear to
balance long threats. Most times a simple list may not be presented critical (Haughey 2000–2011).
2.Because the Internet connects computers all over the world, any business that engages in e–
Commerce instantly becomes an international business. The key issues that any company faces
when it conducts international commerce include trust, culture, language, government, and
infrastructure. Explain how you would address each of these issues.
To create trust in a business the customer needs to rely on their own name brands. As a new
business begins and starts online they face many difficulties. Due to the kind of anonymity that
exists for companies trying to establish a web presence, customers sometimes lack the trust that is
expected because people have been doing business with their neighbors not strangers for many
years. As a company begins to take in the growing aspect to become a larger corporation with
multinational operations the reputation of the company grows too. In order for a company to do
business as it grows it should prove to the customers the trustworthiness as it continues to grow. In
favor of a business to be successful they need to rapidly find away to produce trust (Schneider 2011
page 34–35).

Essay about Business Challenges
1. The most significant challenge to business success you see in this rapidly changing global
economy;
One significant challenge to business success in this rapidly changing global economy is that
many business are focused on efficiency and economic of scales. Just like the example provided by
Michael H. Hugo on Chapter 1, many companies are focused on lowering operating cost as much as
possible. This is causing for executives not leave any room for unpredicted changes limiting the
company's ability to respond to customer's changing needs.
2. An organization that has been successful in the global marketplace using virtual teams and the
best practices it used (as discussed in Chapter 7 of Business Agility: A Sustainable...show more

While this is a practice enforced throughout the company, it was necessary to make sure that this
communications were clear to the virtual team in order to maintain morale and the team's trust in the
company.
3. How the Marketplace simulation incorporates these challenges into simulation game play;
The Marketplace simulation incorporates these challenges by providing student with real–world
business problems and roles. Team members are challenged to make decisions and used critical
thinking in order to solve this problems virtually. While The Marketplace gives the team the tolls
necessary to have effective communication, ultimately each team members contributes to the overall
success of the team, just like in a real business situation.
4. How your readings and individual self–assessment work provide potential solutions to these
challenges.
The unit's readings have provided many solutions to the challenges businesses encounter nowadays.
To this day, there are many companies that have business plans that concentrate strictly in lowering
operating cost, cut budgets as much as possible and overwork workers that already are overworked.
Some of this solutions include: * Thinking of the costumer's needs and being able to respond to their
ever changing needs * Management needs to be transparent and make sure to communicate with
employees, especially when the organizations is making

should open more restaurants because, if opening more restaurants it would benefit by reducing the
lines at restaurants, bring in a lot more money to increase business, people could benefit by getting
more jobs.
First, if we open more restaurants it will benefit by reducing the lines. We won't have to wait so
long to get our food. For example, most of the time I have been to Chick–Fil–A I have had to wait in
a long line to get my food. It will bring in a lot more money so that we can have better things in our
community. You will have better customer service because the lines aren't as long. People won't get

Business Leadership Essay
In corporate America the term used to describe a person in a position of power is "Manager". A
leader can be a manager, but a manager is not necessarily a leader. Leaders motivate, challenge,
and influence others to achieve goals. Great leaders have the necessary skills and attributes
which allow them to connect with the team and organization. Being a leader is not the same as
managing an organization. Leader's posses the interpersonal skills needed to influence others to
achieve a goal willingly. Leading is a major part of a manager's job. Leaders do not need to be a
manager to lead people, but managers must know how to lead as well as manage. Each person in a
company brings his or her own experiences, values, and beliefs to the...show more content...
Bova (2008) states that the following four characteristics are found in good leaders: they believe in
open communication, they do not stick with the status quo, they are selective in what they measure,
and they have passion for values and culture. Each characteristic is essential to a healthy
organizational culture. When an employee feels he or she has open communication with a leader,
they are more inclined to share if problems arise whether or not work related. Non–work related
issues may eventually take a toll on an employee's performance at work. However, with open
communication, an employee feels comfortable in apprising the leader of a situation so that
future problems are avoided. Not all managers are leaders and not all leaders are managers. The
biggest difference between management and leadership is people skills. In determining if a
person is a leader or a manager, Bova (2008) lists some differences with which many a person
would agree. One difference is that a manager directs people. Managers essentially tell employees
to get the job done. Many people work on autopilot until their work shift ends. However, people will
follow a leader. Leaders inspire others to want to strive for their best and to go beyond their normal
duties. Another difference between managers and leaders is that managers tend to control or
micromanage their department. Such management style causes employees to be unhappy and
possibly rebel. Under these types of

 Keep the entire letter brief – no more than one page with three to five paragraphs.

  • 1. An Introduction to Business Essay An Introduction to Business Business plays a major role within our society. It is a creative and competitive activity that continuously contributes to the shaping of our society. By satisfying the needs and wants people cannot satisfy themselves, businesses improve the quality of life for people and create a higher standard of living. It is a way for individuals to provide goods and services to consumers, and at the same time, produce a profit for themselves. Businesses are not only important because they provide goods and services for consumers, but they also improve the economy and increase jobs for people within society which is an additional fact producing a higher standard of living. The Decline of Smokestack America is when there is a change from an industrial to a post–industrial economy. Finally, the conservation of energy is so that there are a sufficient amount of natural resources necessary to produce goods. General economic growth or stagnation also has an important influence on business within our society. Many factors can affect it's condition, such as war, new inventions and technology, political assassinations, the discovery of physical and natural resources, labor negotiations, government action, and many others. When the economy is strong and the demand is high, businesses can prosper. Regardless of how great the economy may become, businesses still must compete with other firms for scarce raw materials and labor. A businesses environment creates many opportunities as well as problems for prospering businesses. The environment determines what a business can do by shaping and channeling its development. Businesses function within an environment by allowing entrepreneurs to raise capital and create profits freely. The supply of money available within a business as well as the economic stability through times of growth and recession have strong effects on businesses. • 2. Business Communication Essay example Business communication needs to become interpersonal again. No matter how we believe our human forms came into existence, we were built to need personal contact and function best with face–to–face communication. As children, we desired comfort from touch, a hug from our mothers. As teenagers, we held hands with our boyfriend or girlfriend. As adults in the workforce, we still need to feel that connection and comfort with our families and the people we work with. As Susan RoAne (2008), owner of a speaking, consulting, and coaching business, discusses one way we feel this connection is through getting to know and building trust by communicating in–person. Through this interpersonal interaction, we not only feel more comfortable around...show more content... For the greatest success of the business, employees need interpersonal communication to connect with their co–workers. A leadership expert, John C. Maxwell (2010) says: "Connecting goes beyond words." (p. 41). Physically being in the same room, verbally speaking thoughts, engaging in eye contact, and being able to see nonverbal responses are all important and add to a person's understanding of the message being communicated and feeling a connection. Overall, communicating face–to–face is more natural for employees. An employee knows who is hearing what they are saying and seeing their nonverbal gestures. The employee can either get immediate feedback whether or not the person understands or agrees or disagrees. The communication does not have to be formatted as it does on paper. An employee should still present themselves professionally, but communicating face–to–face is a process, instead of format. Through in–person communication, employees will be able to not only build needed connections, but relationships and trust with co–workers in the business. Maslow's hierarchy of needs is like a staircase, a person needs to satisfy the lower stairs to easily reach and fulfill the higher staircases. • 3. Essay On Business Writing Reflection It is important to know how to do well at business writing, because we will use this kind of writing skills when we are working as business man or woman. Professor Thieme shares many useful key points about how to write, imparting her knowledge so patience to us. I learned a lot knowledge in ENG 302, and I am so proud of being one of student in this class. Our first project is to write a claim email, it is an email about a phone can't work as usual, I should complain this problem to the Quality Electronics company. In the first draft I did not well, because I not read the evaluation of complaint email, and I just wrote what I want. After professor Thieme helped me to revise my first project, then I know I did many mistakes in structure and content of body paragraph. So, I revised and learned the body paragraph is an important part of a claim letter, because it contains what happened and what the results I want to get. It is hard to write a good essay before take ENG 302, even I don't know how to build an appropriate structure. Therefore, I try my best to practice how to write a good structure essay. Another problem that I did not very well in claim letter is I used to much negative words. From the instruction of the claim letter, "The tone of the claim letter is important. The most effective complaint letters do not sound complaining, angry, or annoyed". So, do not use negative words is the second key point I learned in how to write a good business essay. A hotel's main objective is to provide the best service and tend to all of the guests' needs and requirements. If there is no service then there would be no business. When running a business, the costumer is always placed first. Poor services can results in a complaint from a guest. But that complaint can be used to better the business in the future. There are many issues that Mr. Metz should be concerned with when it comes to running the ATMI hotel. It is the general manager's job to make sure the guests are being pampered and taken cared of. Further poor customer service was displayed when the operator did not tend to Dr. Hankins' needs, and forcefully insisted his opinion that Dr. Hankins should talk to his manager. Mr. Metz needs to review the rules of how to properly deal with the guests and their requirements to the employees. Aside from the operator's lack of responsibility, the manager did not show any professional behaviour towards the guests. After listening to Dr. Hankins' problem, the night manager did not approach him with a resolution as he promised. As a result of inadequate service and unprofessional behaviour, the Hankins wasted their time in waiting for a solution. An additional problematic area that should be looked into is the way the members in the staff treat each other. When Dr. Hankins brought the predicament up with the receptionist, the receptionist went and yelled at his/her co–worker in front of the guests. This surely shows how poorly behaved the receptionist have conducted him/herself. It was not solved in a mannerly order and for that reason alone, is a problem. The evidence in the letter is credible because Dr. Hankins certainly did testify the problems that have occurred during his stay at the hotel. Dr. Hankins presented and expressed himself rationally from beginning to end of the letter. Private enterprises allow entrepreneurs to run businesses without central government control and can operate within a free market. Capitalism is a system of true private enterprise. Some aspects of capitalism are free choice, private ownership, private profit and free competition. The only drawback of this type of system is that a company can operate with no competition thereby creating a monopoly unfavorable for consumers. Officials directly manage some or all of the extraction of raw materials, manufacturing, communication and transportation. This system is loosely regulated by the government. Leaders motivate, challenge, and influence others to achieve goals. Great leaders have the necessary skills and attributes which allow them to connect with the team and organization. Being a leader is not the same as managing an organization. Leader's posses the interpersonal skills needed to influence others to achieve a goal willingly. Bova (2008) states that the following four characteristics are found in good leaders: they believe in open communication, they do not stick with the status quo, they are selective in what they measure, and they have passion for values and culture. Each characteristic is essential to a healthy organizational culture. When an employee feels he or she has open communication with a leader, they are more inclined to share if problems arise whether or not work related. Non–work related issues may eventually take a toll on an employee's performance at work. However, with open communication, an employee feels comfortable in apprising the leader of a situation so that future problems are avoided. Not all managers are leaders and not all leaders are managers. The biggest difference between management and leadership is people skills. In determining if a person is a leader or a manager, Bova (2008) lists some differences with which many a person would agree. One difference is that a manager directs people. Managers essentially tell employees to get the job done. Many people work on autopilot until their work shift ends. However, people will follow a leader. Leaders inspire others to want to strive for their best and to go beyond their normal duties. Another difference between managers and leaders is that managers tend to control or micromanage their department. Such management style causes employees to be unhappy and possibly rebel.
