1960-2011
Answers
1. 1966 had an 80.4% voter turnout which was the highest from
1960-2011
2. Voter loyalty to party is one reason for a high voter turnout as the
electorate would feel a sense of devotion and responsibility.
Another reason for high voter turnout could be campaign issues
which address the concerns of the electorate.
3. 2011 had the lowest voter turnout
4. One factor which may account for the low voter turnout in 2011 is
voter apathy where the electorate lack interest in the electoral
process and have no reason to vote.

Where the electorate is

If the electorate is well

Older voters think that it is
important to vote as they
believe that it is a right well
fought for & granted under
Universal Adult Suffrage.
Persons who are not
apathetic are more likely
to vote.
Party faithfuls form the base of any political
party. These people are guaranteed to vote
on election day regardless of age, education
or financial status.
Candidates who are
trustworthy, well experienced
or have a proven track record
public service are likely to
ensure a high voter turnout.
Though the low income bracket
of the electorate forms the bulk
of the population, they are
mainly likely to vote if they are
loyal to a specific party.

If the electorate has no
confidence that their concerns
will be dealt with they will see
no reason to vote
Where the electorate is
not well educated, the
electoral process appears
to be of little importance
Young people are usually
reluctant to vote especially
where they are not well
educated or do not see the
importance of the process.
An apathetic electorate is a
sign that the turnout will be
low on election day.
If the electorate loses confidence in their
party of choice they are more likely not to
vote than to voter for another party.
Candidates who are young,
inexperienced or do not appear to be
trustworthy stand a small chance of
ensuring a good voter turnout.
If the electorate is of medium to
high income they are more likely
to be engaged in the electoral
process.
