Reflections On Personal Learning And Process Of Writing
Introduction
Ian Frazer is a Scottish–born Australian scientist, renal physician, clinical immunologist;
specializing in viral immunology and autoimmunity. Frazer's ground–breaking discovery of vaccine
for cervical cancer was one of medicine's great breakthroughs, for it was the first live–saving
vaccine designed to prevent cancer.
This report concentrates on Frazer's life, discoveries in immunology by considering his significant
contributions to the discipline, as well as critically evaluating how these achievements have become
apparent and how they have impacted modern medicine. Reflections on personal learning and
process of writing this report will also be included.

In 1981, Frazer continued his clinical training and furthered his studies in viral immunology and
autoimmunity in Walter and Eliza Hall Institute. He shifted to the Princess Alexandra Hospital near
downtown Brisbane in 1985 to study HPV and was appointed as director of clinical immunology in
the hospital. He was granted an MD from the University of Melbourne in 1988. Frazer is currently
CEO and Director of Research at the Translational Research Institute (TRI) (Frazer, 2010).
Discipline of Immunology
Immunology is the study of the immune system, including its responses to microbial pathogens and
damaged tissues and its role in disease (Abbas & Lichtman, 2009). Based on my understanding,
immunology is a branch of science that deals with all aspects of the immune system.
Knowledge before Contribution
Prior to Frazer's contribution, Harald zur Hausen in Germany was awarded the 2008 Nobel Prize for
Medicine for his discovery that HPVs responsible for cancer were not rare viruses. These
widespread infections are harmless for most people, but persistent infection can lead to cancer (Zur
Hausen, 1977).
Frazer's Research Focus
Ian Frazer, together with the late Dr Jian Zhou have been examining the role of HPV in the
development of cervical cancer for the past two decades. In their visit to the laboratory of Dr Lionel
Crawford in 1898 in Cambridge, England, they used some new

What Is The Positive Effects Of The Royal Ballet?
The revolution led by the Khmer Rouge did not only have a direct impact on the Royal Ballet like
previously analysed. There have also been indirect aspects that resulted in safeguarding issues. The
Khmer Rouge left Cambodia behind in a poor condition.
An end to war doesn't necessarily erase the damage of decades of poverty, international isolation,
and social, cultural and ecological devastation; an AIDS epidemic, pervasive violence, and poor
quality education and health care systems, among other problems, fuel contemporary strife.
(Shapiro–Phim 2007, 5)
Therefore, it is not surprising that "culture and the arts is considered under–funded in Cambodia"
(Carmichael 2001). This in turn hinders the development of the Royal University of Fine ... Show

Moreover, it can be added that external support in form of expertise or funding always involves the
risk of serving the hidden agendas of others. As a matter of fact, these – presumably economic –
agendas "don't easily agree with traditional values and existent methodologies of Asia" (Yu n.d., 8).
However, the overall dimension of the consequences for the Royal Ballet remains unpredictable to
this point. Therefore, the author of this work will give a more detailed analysis of the positive and
negative impact of various initiatives on the basis of three case studies in the following chapter.
In summary, it can be stated that the Khmer Rouge had a tremendous direct and indirect impact on
the Royal Ballet. Safeguarding measures have been taken by individuals as well as national and
international authorities and organisations. Yet, the consequences are difficult to overcome and the
involvement of various stakeholders is necessary but not without risks. A lot of efforts are needed to
overcome the atrocious period that Cambodia's culture is still suffering

Lovato's Acting Career
Both Lovato's mother and father were involved in the music industry, so it only made sense she
would one day fall in love with music as well. Not only was her mother a Dallas Cowboys
cheerleader, she was also a recording country music artist (Cruz, 2015). Her father, Patrick Lovato,
was a musician and a sound engineer. Lovato, herself, got into music at a young age, when she sang
Celine Dion's, My Heart Will Go On, at her kindergarten talent show. From then on, her mother and
sisters knew she was gifted, and music would have a major impact on her life. Lovato's music and
acting career initially began in the pageant industry (Lovato et al., & Davis, 2017). Both she and her
sister, Dallas, were in pageants growing up, thus providing her first taste of the spotlight. From
there, Lovato got into the acting business. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This initial acting part sparked many other small character roles for Lovato. After Barney & Friends,
she was cast in small parts in television shows such as Prison Break and Just Jordan (Cruz, 2015).
These led to her being casted as Charlotte in the Disney Channel show, As the Bell Rings, this
would become her first larger character role (Cruz, 2015; Lovato et al., & Davis, 2017). Being
casted in the Disney Channel show, As the Bell Rings, would crack the door for Lovato to one day
become a Disney celebrity. However, Lovato would not become well–known until she landed the
leading role of Mitchie Torres in the Disney movie, Camp Rock, which premiered in June of 2008

Daughters Of The Leper Research Paper
Daughters of the Lepers
Many historians, writers, and health practitioners, still remain curious to know and seek stories of
the Lepers of Kalaupapa. According to the Hawaiian Journal of History, in 1865, the Hawaiian
Kingdom established the isolation settlement for any individuals infected with leprosy. Numerous
stories have been told of the Leper parents on Kalaupapa however; my focus towards this research is
the many children who was taken and separated from their Leper parents. Children who was not
infected by the disease (who was considered clean) was either taken from their parents at
segregation, or was born on Kalaupapa and later removed from their parents. When the Kingdom of
Hawaii passed the Segregation Act in1865, and all who were medically pronounced to be lepers
were to be exiled immediately to Molokaʻi (HJoH). No provisions were made for the children who
were not infected. Not even for the children being born on Molokaʻi. Later this would have caused a
much bigger problem, by allowing the clean to be mixed with the sick. The Hawaiʻi Kingdoms

strangely refused to support the needed. I did appreciate as a reader, the amount of content the

Feminism Vs 3rd Wave Feminism
3: The first obvious difference between 2nd and 3rd wave feminism is time: 2nd wave occurred
mostly in the 1960s and 1970s, while 3rd wave is generally considered to take place in the 1990s
and later. Additionally, 3rd wave focuses more on the individual experience and possible
intersectionality, as opposed to 2nd wave, which focused more on women receiving legal rights.
Chapter 1 of Women's Studies discusses the advances the 2nd wave movement brought about,
particularly in the cases of Roe v. Wade, adding Gender and Women's Studies to a number of
colleges and universities, the Equal Pay Act in 1963, Title VII, as well as a commission to enforce
these anti–discriminatory laws (Shaw and Lee, 7). While this did make a difference in the lives of
many women, legal change without societal change (as those who enforce the legal system are still
socialized in our culture) can be unproductive.
This is where 3rd wave feminism seeks to improve upon their predecessors. While 2nd wave
feminism concentrated on collective action and measurable results, 3rd wave focuses on the
individual experience, and particularly the experiences of queer women. 2nd wave feminism's goals
were more concrete, and so it is easy to imply that their goal was reached, and that women are equal
to men. However, 3rd wave feminism's agenda is vaguer and focuses on systemic issues, making it
harder to determine what a mutually agreed upon solution would look like. Because of this
ambiguity, a prominent weakness is

Prosecution Intimidation And Witness Intimidation
There are many reasons victims do no want to testify in court. Legal cynicism and witness
intimidation are a couple of the top reasons. One reason I feel is overlooked is witness intimidation.
Witness Intimidation is when threats are made by defendants to discourage victims or witnesses of a
crime from reporting or testifying. (Connick and Davis 439) If a victim feels threatened, they often
become hesitant to testify sometimes even to report the crime. With the right incentives, victims and
witnesses would be more likely to participate in the process of testifying against a defendant.
Witness intimidation happens in many forms, such as: looks, threats of violence, physical violence,
property damage, etc. "If you commit a crime, you will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These programs are still new in the eyes of the justice system. "Victims and witnesses receiving help
were more likely to appear when summoned than those who had not been aided." (Neubauer and
Fradella 236) Victims who are testifying against a defendant are authorized to receive protection,
whether inside or outside of court.
There are services provided to protect the victims or witnesses. When waiting in the courtroom, they
are entitled to a special waiting room, away and out of sight from the defendant and the defendant's
friends and family. By separating the defendant from the victims and witnesses, it lessens the
change of intimidation within the courtroom. Even victims and witnesses that are incarcerated have
the option and availability to be separated from others to keep them safe. By separating from certain
groups, gangs are not able to finish hits on a victim or witness.
Another way to keep a victim or witness in testifying is ensuring that everyone coming in and out of
the courthouse will be on video surveillance. By taping everyone coming into the courthouse,
hopefully it would discourage any intimidation within the courthouse. Also by having surveillance,
it would give the victims and witnesses a sense of security, knowing that anybody coming near them
in the courthouse is on camera.
One program to motivate victims to participate in testifying helps with compensating the victims or
witnesses. During the process of the trial and even before when

The Network's Creation And Evolution Of Powerful Girl...
Via textual analysis, content analysis, discourse analysis, interviews, and primary and secondary
sources, this study used a cultural studies and historical lens to explore and comprehend the
representation of tween girls on Disney Channel television series. This research project sought to
answer questions about meanings of the network's creation and evolution of powerful girl
characters. In so doing, it examined culture–particularly dominant American ideologies about girls–
and industry, mainly, Disney as an institution that serves as an instrument of dominant ideology by
pressing its views upon its audience. This dissertation has identified the reasons and motivations for
presentations of girls with hidden magical powers, and the decade's social, historical, and industrial
influence and impact on Disney programming. This dissertation has also shown how Disney has
influenced society and history too with its persistent and sometimes pervasive portrayals of tween
girls resulting in a tween marketing frenzy and more attention being paid to girl's issues. This study
has come up with an enhanced understanding of Disney Channel within concrete social, historical,
and institutional contexts. The process of historicizing Disney Channel in chapter one by finding
connections between national events and the various series studied effectively addressed the
intertwined cultural and commercial dynamics of the network. This analysis has firmly established

In September 2013, a male Saudi cleric, Sheikh Saleh Al–Loheidan, claimed that women who drive
will have reproductive issues and their babies will be born with clinical problems (Jamjoom, 2013).
This is believed to be in response to a movement protesting the laws against women driving. The
fact that women are banned from driving themselves where they need to go hinders the ability to get
to medical appointments without a chaperone, or walking. On October 26, 2013, a demonstration
was planned for women activists to post video of themselves driving to protest the ban. Women are
serving jail time for violating these laws (Jamjoom, 2013).
As is custom, women must be accompanied by a male chaperone from her family, such as, her
husband, father, brother, or son. This is for the women's protection. Where this becomes problematic
in the healthcare setting is during the patient interview and exam. In 1993, a physician from Canada,

the difficulties he faced are still relevant today. Dr. Sullivan was unable to obtain a health history

due to the veils covering their faces. The doctor made a diagnosis of thyrotoxicosis from reviewing

The Pros And Cons Of Mandatory Military Service?
Many of the opinions of the present day admit not to resort to compulsory military service because
this idea is not important and that it is far from human rights democracy, but mandatory military
service has been present since ancient times. In addition, each country has a strategy to turn civilian
citizens into soldiers who are used at times of war and fight for state protection. In ancient times,
specifically in 221 BC, the Chinese Empire resorted to forced conscription and set some strategic
plans at the time to avoid any danger that might adversely affect the Empire, also during the French
Revolution in 1970, it drafted a law to recruit citizens for fear of war and strife. (10 Meaningful Pros

Summary Of Human Trafficking In Little Princess
In Little Princess, Conor Grennan goes on a journey to Nepal for a year. His mission was at first just
to have something on his resume and to help him figure out his life. He was going to Nepal to
volunteer at an orphanage. Nepal was in a critical time, a brutal Civil War. On entering the
orphanage his perceptive of volunteering was nothing too deep. He begins to bond with the orphans
and understand their stories. Many of the children had been taken away from their families and
tricked into thinking they were going to a better place. When he departs from Nepal, he realizes how
much he misses the kids and wants to go back. In Part II, he returns to the orphanage but leaves for
two months to go volunteer around the globe. Through–out the book, he searches for the orphan's
families, opens his own children's home and changes his life.
Human trafficking is a modern–day multibillion slavery business, involving victims who are

Gender Roles Are Defined By The Roles Or Behaviours Learned
Gender roles are defined by the roles or behaviours learned by a person as appropriate to their
gender, determined by the prevailing cultural norms. Gender roles are based on norms or standards,
created by society. In American culture masculine roles have traditionally been linked with strength,
aggression, and dominance, while feminine roles have traditionally been associated with passivity,
nurturing, and being submissive. Gender socialization starts and occurs throughout the four major

both spouses generate income. That before the rise of feminism in the 1960s and 1970s and the

Essay about Princess Diana and Voyeurism
Princess Diana and Voyeurism
Perhaps the best way to think of it is as a war. On one side are the Hollywood stars with their armies
of agents, managers, lawyers, publicists, handlers, personal assistants and, of course, bodyguards.
And on the other side are the paparazzi – guerrilla warriors armed with cameras, whose job it is to
break through the stars' defenses, steal small parts of their souls and sell them to the highest bidder.
The lengths to which paparazzi will go to get "the shot" are legendary – hiding out in trees, digging
through garbage and spitting on the stars in order to shoot their reactions. Car chases and helicopter
surveillance seem to be routine. And there's very little the stars can do about it. Even the ... Show

However, one must question the reasoning behind Charles Spencer's statement, for when the issue at
stake, celebrities and there relationship with paparazzi and public voyeurism, is really examined, the
topic becomes rather complicated.
Princess Diana had a very complex and sometimes symbiotic relationship with the paparazzi who
covered her. In fact one reason why she was so loved, so followed and so revered is because the
paparazzi constantly kept her image in the public eye. She was constantly portrayed as a sort of fairy
tale princess, a lady of elegance and class who somehow connected with the poor and downtrodden
people – regular everyday people – and in this way she gained the publics admiration and
unfortunately their desire to know all the details about her life, including her personal agenda.
There's no doubt Diana cultivated and used the press to her advantage during her life in the
spotlight. "A woman who's been followed by the press as much as she has does not embrace her
Egyptian lover in public on a boat where she knows there are going to be people floating around
offshore taking pictures unless she means to make a statement" (Levine, 52). She, like many other

1920 American Gangsters
Gangs have existed in the United States for over 200 years. It all started when the first immigrants
came to the U.S.A. Most of them came for a better life but many of them ended up in poverty. The
first gangs were formed among poor adolescents who grouped together for the sake of socialisation
and protection. They were of the same race or the same ethnic background. The first known gang
specialized in crimes was called "The Five Points". They consisted of Irish immigrants and was
established in New York City. They dressed in a specific way and used monikers or nicknames.
Another early gang were the "Forty Thieves". Their gang leader was Edward Coleman and they
formed in 1826. New York City's early gangs had an easy time of it because of ... Show more

While they might sport the tattoos, the jackets, colors, and signs, often these members are only
tangentially affiliated. According to much of the available literature, tattoos also serve as a badge of
protection against coercion from other gangs (Jackson and McBride 1985). In the current study,
tattoos signify a number of different and personal matters, only one of which gang membership and
a warning to others. At any rate, it is very clear that some youths engage in more gang activity than
others; some might be called "the wannabes" who move out of the influence of the gang on the basis
of whether or not a program of interest intercepts drawing them completely away from the gang.
Within the "wannabes" there are many little brothers and sisters, sometimes referred to as "pee
wees." However, on separate and certain occasions they are sent home by their older siblings when
something was about to happen for which only older members were being mobilized. Moreover, I
am going to go into explicit detail on two Hispanic gangs The Mexican Mafia, the Nuestra Familia,
and the Latin Kings. The Mexican Mafia started in late 1957. Gangs that participate in the Mexican
Mafia (EME) politics and put to work for the gang on and off the street are given a "red light". They
are not to be assaulted. Gang members who do not kick back drug profits to the gang or do not take
care of business are given a "green light" and their names

Halloween, 300, And Frozen
Criticism is the practice of judging the qualities and faults of something, such as movies in this case.
Literary exchanges contain three participants, the text, the source, and the receiver. The analysis for
literary work is classified into three modes of schools of criticism and theory. These are the
emphasis on the text, emphasis on the source, and emphasis on the receiver; each school acting as
an umbrella for various types of criticism in which they focus on one of the three participants of
literary relations in a unique way. The type of criticism that best fits the movie reviews of
Halloween, 300, and Frozen are reader response criticism, new criticism, and structuralism
respectively. Reader response criticism, a branch under the emphasis ... Show more content on

Formalism is a type of criticism that "foreground[s] the design of the text itself above all or most
other consideration." New criticism is a type of formalism that overlooks the source and receiver for
the most part, "emphasizing instead the intrinsic qualities of a unified literary work" (Mays 1973–
1974). A common saying among new critics is that "the keys to understanding a text exist within 'the
text itself'" (Brizee). Honest Trailers video review of the film 300 points out many elements in the
movie that make it what it is. Cornet and Murrell first introduce the protagonist Leonidas, who is
"cinema's yelliest king." They follow this by presenting the antagonist Xerxes, who is a "hairless
giant with an entire jewelry store on his face and a voice that sounds like he is in the witness
protection program." The critics then provide evidence of the homoerotic undertones they took away
from the movie. The video review notes how the movie consists of "overused visual tricks featuring
dramatic falling stuff, Instagram filters, and super slow motion" (Cornet). Cornet and Murrell use
this emphasis on the text to pay close attention to the movie details and structure in order to discover
the meaning and performance of the film. Hence, Honest Trailers use new criticism to review 300 as
they satirically criticize the film's overuse of dramatic intrinsic features such as imagery, tone,

Abolition Of Slavery In Brazil Essay
The Abolition of Slavery in Brazil, 13 May 1888
Next year sees the 120th anniversary of the abolition of slavery in Brazil. Some contemporary
writers saw the period as an horrific maltreatment of our fellow human beings while others saw
through this and viewed the patriarchal and familial advantages that society, especially slaves
received. Whichever way one sees it, the period before its abolition saw a huge boost in Brazil's
economy, mainly down to its vast manpower – 37% of all African slaves traded – a massive 3
million men, women and children.
Brazil is famous for its three main exports – sugar, gold and coffee and the discovery, production
and distribution of these materials was mainly down to African slaves. After the ... Show more

Since the rich autocrats who owned slaves were looking to be recognised with titles, such as
marquises and dukes, they were willing to cooperate with the Royal Family. However, many rich
nobles did not believe the threat from Empire to abolish slavery since the predicted effects were
well known and well documented in the press. So, when Princess Isabel passed Law 3353 in 1888,
the monarchy began to feel the pressure of the influential nobles who, feeling that the abolition had
created too much freedom in Brazil staged a military coup on 15th November 1889, just over a year
after the passing of Law 3353. Some might say that the overthrow of the monarchy was down to the
surprisingly long and expensive Paraguayan War. However, it can be no consequence that a republic
was born only a year after slavery was abolished.
Former slaves discovered a deep feeling of insecurity after the downfall of the monarchy. Since
Brazil had always been a paternalistic culture (an Emperor and an autocrat of a patriarchal house to
protect them), it even led to some men and women becoming nostalgic of their former 'big houses',
as they were known, and were desperate for the patriarchal assistance they once had in abundance.
Yet, the popular president Getulio Vargas finally understood the sociological and psychological
situation of the former slaves and gave a large part of the Brazilian labour population protection
against exploitation from commercial

The First Polynesian At New Zealand Near 800 A.d
Kupe is thought to be the first Polynesian to arrive at New Zealand near 800 A.D. Upon arrival the
Polynesian Maori people named the land "Aotearoa" which translates to "Land of the long white
cloud." He used waka hourua canoes (translates to double canoes), and sailed from an island in the
South Pacific Ocean area known as Hawaiki near the Cook islands, Tahiti and Hawaii. The Maori
trace their people back to seven tribes through a whakapapa, or genealogy. There were conflicts
between tribes, but they were not in constant battle. To defend their tribes, they built structures

simpler in its rules and structures than the English language. It has 15 letters in its alphabet, 5 of the

traditions with them throughout the years. A few of the main traditions include performances, art,

literal meanings of the performances is to form a kapa (line) and haka (dance). The main purposes
of the haka is to welcome distinguished guests, celebrate an achievement, or a pre–battle challenge

Mob 's Target Nicely Conveys The Premise Of This Crime...
The title MOB'S TARGET nicely conveys the premise of this crime thriller. The plot focuses on an
insecure and fearful accountant who testifies against a major mobster, sending him to prison. The
mob wants revenge and she's the target. She enters a Witness Protection program, but an enforcer
tracks her down.
The goal of survival is clear and the stakes are life and death. There are several themes incorporated
into the script about trust, revenge, justice, survival, and second chances.
The script also poses some intriguing moral questions, especially for the police chief Joe. He has to
struggle with the moral argument of family vs. justice. He clearly has a moral dilemma.

The plot also offers another coincidence with the idea that Megan's father was murdered and that
Brown investigated it. Again, too many coincidences cause one to question the credibility of the
plot.
In this case, it's not clear how Megan's dad being murdered is relevant, or how it connects to the
plotline. The backstory is left dangling for the audience. It's a serious backstory to have a parent
murdered; yet there's no payoff for the reveal.
Normally, a backstory has some emotional affect on the current storyline. For example, if Megan
were home when her dad was killed and she was unable to protect and save him, then this could be a
relevant inner conflict for her. She could carry the guilt about her father and now she has to learn to
protect herself. Or in another example, if Megan were home when her dad was murdered, maybe
she saw the killer and now years later he reappears. Regardless, the idea of the connection to Brown
isn't clear and it's suggested to eliminate this connection unless there's a solid link to the present day
storyline and the past.
The opening sets the tone for a mobster story. It establishes that Nick is deadly. However, the scene
isn't as tense or suspenseful as it could be. One reason for this is that the audience isn't emotionally
invested in the owner of the bookshop and the dialogue and action doesn't create compelling enough
tension.
The other concern about the tone is that, in

The Adolescent Family Life Act ( Afla ) Essay
In 1981, the Adolescent Family Life Act (AFLA) was signed into law by President Reagan. Through
the act, the federal government first invested in sexual education programs, all of which encouraged
"chastity and self–discipline." After this came the Title V abstinence–only–until–marriage program,
which was created in 1996 as part of the welfare reform legislation. Finally, the Community–Based

debating whether the original approach of teaching abstinence should be kept or if schools should

infections.
I believe that all schools should teach an inclusive form of sexual education. I believe that teaching
abstinence is not working in the slightest because the rate of teenagers who are sexually active is

The Use Of Dogs And Cats On The Human Society And Income
The year 10,000 BC was the beginning of domesticated dogs and cats in the United States and over
the past 12,000 years there are now between 144 million to 176 million owned companions in the
United States. Due to all of the economic and income growth over the past 12,000 years the purpose
for these well–known companions has expanded gradually. Dogs and cats have been a beloved
companion in families for centuries, but has it ever occurred to you how these animals became
domesticated and how they have impacted the human society and income? Today, we as a society
are familiar with the concept of dogs and cats being owned and used as companions. These domestic
creatures give humans love, affection, comfort, and security when in need, but what about their
original purpose for domestication? Before a cat was ever considered something to cuddle up next
to late at night they were mainly purposed to hunt mice and other little rodents that crept into
granaries at night and soon store owners began to feed the cats or served them leftover foods mainly
around Egypt and China.(Domestic Cat). Dogs were domesticated in a different manner than our
feline friends. To hunter–gatherer societies, dogs acted as protectors of the society and foods
towards any outside predators and also later became a "hunting partner" alongside humans when
they ventured near campsites. Soon after livestock became domesticated dogs began to act as
herders and guardians of sheep, goats and cattle.(Dog).

inequality is the increased fear of violence for women. Women are often portrayed as weak and

friends; it is something without help have all been exposed to. Yet, a few humans examine criticism
as a negative view for the reason that it may demoralize a person. What's more, others recognize
criticism has a tool to improve since it lets a person notice their mistakes. With this in mind as
individuals, privately initiate the decision to let criticism disturb us or embrace it. Furthermore,
criticism has also been included in literary work. For this purpose, the three videos Frasure has
provided shown many types of criticism being used in the following ... Show more content on

There are two types of criticism being used by the critics which are Reader–Response and Feminist
Criticism. Halloween movie is a horror film about Michael Myers who is killing people in his
hometown. However, the critics here are justifying how the women and the music being played in
the background make this movie scary, since, the horror films played today are becoming more
disturbing then scary. In addition, Mays describes reader–response critic observes the expectations
aroused by a text and how they are satisfied or modified (1985). In the movie, the music in the
background highlights the scene where the lady is being attacked. Siskel and Ebert mention that the
music is what lays the theme to be good. In addition, the two critics also use Feminist Criticism
when explaining what the women represent. As stated by Mays, Contemporary feminist criticism
emerged from a second wave of feminist activism in the 1960s and 1970 which was associated with
the civil rights and antiwar movements (1988). The two critics mention that the women symbolize
as independent, intelligent women who is spunky and interesting. Furthermore, in the 300–review

The Slavery Of The United States
Modern Day Slavery
In early 17th century, European settlers used slaves as cheap servants. Slaves were the personal
property of their owners, and slave masters had absolute authority over them as human property.
Chattel slaves, as they were traditionally referred to in the past, were bought and sold as if they were
possessions. Even though owning a person as property was lawfully protected in the United States,
enslaved individuals were not protected from mistreatment and abuse they endured. Historically,
slaves experienced abuse at the hands of their masters. Slaves were chained, whipped and were
often beaten while withstanding days of hard labor. Although we are taught that slavery ended
centuries ago and the 13th amendment ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These individuals are forced into marriages, hard labor, prostitution or other compelled situations.
The most widely accepted definition of human trafficking comes from the State of California
Department of Justice as "the recruitment, transportation, transfer, harboring or receipt of persons,
by means of the threat or use of force or other forms of coercion, of abduction, of fraud, of
deception, of the abuse of power or of a position of vulnerability or of the giving or receiving of
payments or benefits to achieve the consent of a person having control over another person, for the
purpose of exploitation." Victims of human trafficking are considered today as modern day slaves.
The International Labor Organizations (ILO) estimates the number of enslaved victims in the world
today is at around 21 million. It is estimated that over 4 million people fall prey to trafficking each
year, which is considered to be a conservative estimate according to the Federal Bureau of
Investigations (FBI) because not all victims come forward about their situations due to fear of their
lives. Traffickers control their victims through physical threats, similar to the abuse chattel slaves
endured in American history. According to the Polaris Project, one of the most well–known anti–
trafficking organizations, most victims of human trafficking are often mistreated, handcuffed,
beaten, and raped if they do not comply with their traffickers demands.
Furthermore, if traffickers know of the

The Cinderella Complex : How Cinderella Complex Affects...
Introduction
Since the 1950s, many princess movies have similar Cinderella Complex where Prince Charming

Cinderella Overview
In the movie Cinderella, Cinderella lives with her Wicked stepmother and two jealous stepsisters.
They keep Cinderella enslaved and doesn't get a chance to attend the royal ball. Later her fairy
godmother shows up magically transforms her look into a dream come true. Cinderella then sees the

sister when the spell wears off at night. In this movie it shows how Cinderella was treated horribly,
and one day the godmother came and changed her into the most beautiful princess, which made the
prince fall in love with her. In the article Disney and Freud: Walt Meets the Id, Berland mentioned,
"In Cinderella he eliminates

Reflections On Personal Learning And Process Of Writing

  • 1. Reflections On Personal Learning And Process Of Writing Introduction Ian Frazer is a Scottish–born Australian scientist, renal physician, clinical immunologist; specializing in viral immunology and autoimmunity. Frazer's ground–breaking discovery of vaccine for cervical cancer was one of medicine's great breakthroughs, for it was the first live–saving vaccine designed to prevent cancer. This report concentrates on Frazer's life, discoveries in immunology by considering his significant contributions to the discipline, as well as critically evaluating how these achievements have become apparent and how they have impacted modern medicine. Reflections on personal learning and process of writing this report will also be included. Ian Frazer Ian Frazer is an immunologist renowned for winning the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In 1981, Frazer continued his clinical training and furthered his studies in viral immunology and autoimmunity in Walter and Eliza Hall Institute. He shifted to the Princess Alexandra Hospital near downtown Brisbane in 1985 to study HPV and was appointed as director of clinical immunology in the hospital. He was granted an MD from the University of Melbourne in 1988. Frazer is currently CEO and Director of Research at the Translational Research Institute (TRI) (Frazer, 2010). Discipline of Immunology Immunology is the study of the immune system, including its responses to microbial pathogens and damaged tissues and its role in disease (Abbas & Lichtman, 2009). Based on my understanding, immunology is a branch of science that deals with all aspects of the immune system. Knowledge before Contribution Prior to Frazer's contribution, Harald zur Hausen in Germany was awarded the 2008 Nobel Prize for Medicine for his discovery that HPVs responsible for cancer were not rare viruses. These widespread infections are harmless for most people, but persistent infection can lead to cancer (Zur Hausen, 1977). Frazer's Research Focus Ian Frazer, together with the late Dr Jian Zhou have been examining the role of HPV in the development of cervical cancer for the past two decades. • 2. What Is The Positive Effects Of The Royal Ballet? The revolution led by the Khmer Rouge did not only have a direct impact on the Royal Ballet like previously analysed. There have also been indirect aspects that resulted in safeguarding issues. The Khmer Rouge left Cambodia behind in a poor condition. An end to war doesn't necessarily erase the damage of decades of poverty, international isolation, and social, cultural and ecological devastation; an AIDS epidemic, pervasive violence, and poor quality education and health care systems, among other problems, fuel contemporary strife. (Shapiro–Phim 2007, 5) Therefore, it is not surprising that "culture and the arts is considered under–funded in Cambodia" (Carmichael 2001). This in turn hinders the development of the Royal University of Fine ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Moreover, it can be added that external support in form of expertise or funding always involves the risk of serving the hidden agendas of others. As a matter of fact, these – presumably economic – agendas "don't easily agree with traditional values and existent methodologies of Asia" (Yu n.d., 8). However, the overall dimension of the consequences for the Royal Ballet remains unpredictable to this point. Therefore, the author of this work will give a more detailed analysis of the positive and negative impact of various initiatives on the basis of three case studies in the following chapter. In summary, it can be stated that the Khmer Rouge had a tremendous direct and indirect impact on the Royal Ballet. Safeguarding measures have been taken by individuals as well as national and international authorities and organisations. Yet, the consequences are difficult to overcome and the involvement of various stakeholders is necessary but not without risks. A lot of efforts are needed to overcome the atrocious period that Cambodia's culture is still suffering ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Lovato's Acting Career Both Lovato's mother and father were involved in the music industry, so it only made sense she would one day fall in love with music as well. Not only was her mother a Dallas Cowboys cheerleader, she was also a recording country music artist (Cruz, 2015). Her father, Patrick Lovato, was a musician and a sound engineer. Lovato, herself, got into music at a young age, when she sang Celine Dion's, My Heart Will Go On, at her kindergarten talent show. From then on, her mother and sisters knew she was gifted, and music would have a major impact on her life. Lovato's music and acting career initially began in the pageant industry (Lovato et al., & Davis, 2017). Both she and her sister, Dallas, were in pageants growing up, thus providing her first taste of the spotlight. From there, Lovato got into the acting business. ... Being casted in the Disney Channel show, As the Bell Rings, would crack the door for Lovato to one day become a Disney celebrity. However, Lovato would not become well–known until she landed the leading role of Mitchie Torres in the Disney movie, Camp Rock, which premiered in June of 2008 (Lovato et al., & Davis, 2017). According to the Hawaiian Journal of History, in 1865, the Hawaiian Kingdom established the isolation settlement for any individuals infected with leprosy. Numerous stories have been told of the Leper parents on Kalaupapa however; my focus towards this research is the many children who was taken and separated from their Leper parents. Children who was not infected by the disease (who was considered clean) was either taken from their parents at segregation, or was born on Kalaupapa and later removed from their parents. When the Kingdom of Hawaii passed the Segregation Act in1865, and all who were medically pronounced to be lepers were to be exiled immediately to Molokaʻi (HJoH). No provisions were made for the children who were not infected. Not even for the children being born on Molokaʻi. Feminism Vs 3rd Wave Feminism 3: The first obvious difference between 2nd and 3rd wave feminism is time: 2nd wave occurred mostly in the 1960s and 1970s, while 3rd wave is generally considered to take place in the 1990s and later. Additionally, 3rd wave focuses more on the individual experience and possible intersectionality, as opposed to 2nd wave, which focused more on women receiving legal rights. Chapter 1 of Women's Studies discusses the advances the 2nd wave movement brought about, particularly in the cases of Roe v. Wade, adding Gender and Women's Studies to a number of colleges and universities, the Equal Pay Act in 1963, Title VII, as well as a commission to enforce these anti–discriminatory laws (Shaw and Lee, 7). While this did make a difference in the lives of many women, legal change without societal change (as those who enforce the legal system are still socialized in our culture) can be unproductive. This is where 3rd wave feminism seeks to improve upon their predecessors. While 2nd wave feminism concentrated on collective action and measurable results, 3rd wave focuses on the individual experience, and particularly the experiences of queer women. 2nd wave feminism's goals were more concrete, and so it is easy to imply that their goal was reached, and that women are equal to men. However, 3rd wave feminism's agenda is vaguer and focuses on systemic issues, making it harder to determine what a mutually agreed upon solution would look like. Because of this ambiguity, a prominent weakness is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Prosecution Intimidation And Witness Intimidation There are many reasons victims do no want to testify in court. Legal cynicism and witness intimidation are a couple of the top reasons. One reason I feel is overlooked is witness intimidation. Witness Intimidation is when threats are made by defendants to discourage victims or witnesses of a crime from reporting or testifying. (Connick and Davis 439) If a victim feels threatened, they often become hesitant to testify sometimes even to report the crime. With the right incentives, victims and witnesses would be more likely to participate in the process of testifying against a defendant. Witness intimidation happens in many forms, such as: looks, threats of violence, physical violence, property damage, etc. "If you commit a crime, you will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These programs are still new in the eyes of the justice system. "Victims and witnesses receiving help were more likely to appear when summoned than those who had not been aided." (Neubauer and Fradella 236) Victims who are testifying against a defendant are authorized to receive protection, whether inside or outside of court. There are services provided to protect the victims or witnesses. When waiting in the courtroom, they are entitled to a special waiting room, away and out of sight from the defendant and the defendant's friends and family. By separating the defendant from the victims and witnesses, it lessens the change of intimidation within the courtroom. Even victims and witnesses that are incarcerated have the option and availability to be separated from others to keep them safe. By separating from certain groups, gangs are not able to finish hits on a victim or witness. Another way to keep a victim or witness in testifying is ensuring that everyone coming in and out of the courthouse will be on video surveillance. By taping everyone coming into the courthouse, hopefully it would discourage any intimidation within the courthouse. Also by having surveillance, it would give the victims and witnesses a sense of security, knowing that anybody coming near them in the courthouse is on camera. One program to motivate victims to participate in testifying helps with compensating the victims or witnesses. During the process of the trial and even before when ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Via textual analysis, content analysis, discourse analysis, interviews, and primary and secondary sources, this study used a cultural studies and historical lens to explore and comprehend the representation of tween girls on Disney Channel television series. This research project sought to answer questions about meanings of the network's creation and evolution of powerful girl characters. In so doing, it examined culture–particularly dominant American ideologies about girls– and industry, mainly, Disney as an institution that serves as an instrument of dominant ideology by pressing its views upon its audience. This dissertation has identified the reasons and motivations for presentations of girls with hidden magical powers, and the decade's social, historical, and industrial influence and impact on Disney programming. This dissertation has also shown how Disney has influenced society and history too with its persistent and sometimes pervasive portrayals of tween girls resulting in a tween marketing frenzy and more attention being paid to girl's issues. This study has come up with an enhanced understanding of Disney Channel within concrete social, historical, and institutional contexts. The process of historicizing Disney Channel in chapter one by finding connections between national events and the various series studied effectively addressed the intertwined cultural and commercial dynamics of the network. In fact one reason why she was so loved, so followed and so revered is because the paparazzi constantly kept her image in the public eye. She was constantly portrayed as a sort of fairy tale princess, a lady of elegance and class who somehow connected with the poor and downtrodden people – regular everyday people – and in this way she gained the publics admiration and unfortunately their desire to know all the details about her life, including her personal agenda. • 23. Abolition Of Slavery In Brazil Essay The Abolition of Slavery in Brazil, 13 May 1888 Next year sees the 120th anniversary of the abolition of slavery in Brazil. Some contemporary writers saw the period as an horrific maltreatment of our fellow human beings while others saw through this and viewed the patriarchal and familial advantages that society, especially slaves received. Whichever way one sees it, the period before its abolition saw a huge boost in Brazil's economy, mainly down to its vast manpower – 37% of all African slaves traded – a massive 3 million men, women and children. Brazil is famous for its three main exports – sugar, gold and coffee and the discovery, production and distribution of these materials was mainly down to African slaves. After the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since the rich autocrats who owned slaves were looking to be recognised with titles, such as marquises and dukes, they were willing to cooperate with the Royal Family. However, many rich nobles did not believe the threat from Empire to abolish slavery since the predicted effects were well known and well documented in the press. So, when Princess Isabel passed Law 3353 in 1888, the monarchy began to feel the pressure of the influential nobles who, feeling that the abolition had created too much freedom in Brazil staged a military coup on 15th November 1889, just over a year after the passing of Law 3353. Some might say that the overthrow of the monarchy was down to the surprisingly long and expensive Paraguayan War. However, it can be no consequence that a republic was born only a year after slavery was abolished. Former slaves discovered a deep feeling of insecurity after the downfall of the monarchy. Since Brazil had always been a paternalistic culture (an Emperor and an autocrat of a patriarchal house to protect them), it even led to some men and women becoming nostalgic of their former 'big houses', as they were known, and were desperate for the patriarchal assistance they once had in abundance. Yet, the popular president Getulio Vargas finally understood the sociological and psychological situation of the former slaves and gave a large part of the Brazilian labour population protection against exploitation from commercial ... She enters a Witness Protection program, but an enforcer tracks her down. The goal of survival is clear and the stakes are life and death. There are several themes incorporated into the script about trust, revenge, justice, survival, and second chances. The plot also offers another coincidence with the idea that Megan's father was murdered and that Brown investigated it. Again, too many coincidences cause one to question the credibility of the plot. In this case, it's not clear how Megan's dad being murdered is relevant, or how it connects to the plotline. The backstory is left dangling for the audience. It's a serious backstory to have a parent murdered; yet there's no payoff for the reveal. Normally, a backstory has some emotional affect on the current storyline. For example, if Megan were home when her dad was killed and she was unable to protect and save him, then this could be a relevant inner conflict for her. She could carry the guilt about her father and now she has to learn to protect herself. Or in another example, if Megan were home when her dad was murdered, maybe she saw the killer and now years later he reappears. Regardless, the idea of the connection to Brown isn't clear and it's suggested to eliminate this connection unless there's a solid link to the present day storyline and the past. The opening sets the tone for a mobster story. It establishes that Nick is deadly. However, the scene isn't as tense or suspenseful as it could be. One reason for this is that the audience isn't emotionally invested in the owner of the bookshop and the dialogue and action doesn't create compelling enough tension. Due to all of the economic and income growth over the past 12,000 years the purpose for these well–known companions has expanded gradually. Dogs and cats have been a beloved companion in families for centuries, but has it ever occurred to you how these animals became domesticated and how they have impacted the human society and income? Today, we as a society are familiar with the concept of dogs and cats being owned and used as companions. These domestic creatures give humans love, affection, comfort, and security when in need, but what about their original purpose for domestication? Before a cat was ever considered something to cuddle up next to late at night they were mainly purposed to hunt mice and other little rodents that crept into granaries at night and soon store owners began to feed the cats or served them leftover foods mainly around Egypt and China.(Domestic Cat). Dogs were domesticated in a different manner than our feline friends. To hunter–gatherer societies, dogs acted as protectors of the society and foods towards any outside predators and also later became a "hunting partner" alongside humans when they ventured near campsites.
