Abstract
We have built the Global Seed vault (also known as Doomsday vault) at
Spitsbergen, part of Norway’s Svalbard archipelago to ensure the future of
humanity in case of catastrophe caused by pandemic or nuclear war. There are
discussions how we can bring back the civilization using the plough that kick
started our civilization. This paper proposes how we can bring back the
civilization faster by safekeeping all the patents, formulas, and important
theories that have shaped our economy and way of life through global
consortium which we must establish to secure the future of humanity.

4. Doomsday scenario: How we should prepare to be able to rebuild our civilization faster.
It is not doomsday yet, but the catastrophic effect brought by pandemic such as Covid-19 showed
how unprepared each nation in handling a highly infectious disease. Confirmed cases are closed to 4.5
million and death counts exceed three hundred thousand in less than 5 months.1 The economic cost
estimated by United Nation brought by covid-19 pandemic has one trillion US dollars price tag for the year
2020 alone2 and there is no end in sight as the number of death and the economic cost due to the covid-
19 pandemic are still increasing.
Now imagine this pandemic end in catastrophe. The end of civilization. This modern civilization of ours
is finished brought by mutation of coronavirus. No grocery food, no transportation, no electricity, no
internet, no fuel, and no means of communication. How we can start to rebuild the civilization if we are
one of the lucky survivors?
The answer is a plough as stated by science historian named James Burke according to Tim Harford.
Accordingly, it is appropriate because the plough kick started our civilization in the first place. Because as
our ancestors become productive in farming, they could able to feed others so that they can be free to do
other things such as cutting trees, building houses, paving roads, and inventing things to build the
civilization.3

Another aspect why the plough is appropriate, the plough is the immediate tool we need to make use
of the 930,000 variety of seeds we are keeping inside the Global Seed vault (also known as Doomsday
vault) at Spitsbergen, part of Norway’s Svalbard archipelago.4 While the plough and doomsday vault can
kick start the farming revolution once again, we should not start from nothing. Instead, we should have
global consortium to keep all the patents and important theories and principles to secure the future of
humanity like the constitution, laws, and best management theories and practices that have transformed
our economy and way of life because it may take several thousands of years to have another Plato,
Aristotle, Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Edison, Nikola Tesla, Albert Einstein, Alexander Fleming, William
Shockley, Robert Noyce, Steve Jobs, and Bill Gates. In this way, we can bring back the civilization faster.
