From the Desk of the Head of the Department
~ Dilip Barad
Amidst the ethereal dreams of a future world driven by Artificial Intelligence, we now find
ourselves living in the very revolution we once imagined. The present is a surreal reality, and its
sheer brilliance leaves us in awe. A mere glimpse of AI's eloquence with the English language is
enough to make one's heart skip a beat. As we contemplate the digital revolution, we're reminded
of Wordsworth's iconic words in Book XI of the Prelude1
:
"Bliss was it in that dawn to be alive,
But to be young was very heaven! - Oh! Times!"
These lines, written for the fervent enthusiasts of the French
Revolution, resonate equally with digital aficionados.
One could draw parallels between the French Revolution and
the digital age, and take the perspective of a typical Luddite2
to discern similarities between the frustration that
accompanies a trail of revolution. The Tale of Two Cities3
,
which opens with the famous lines,
" It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the
age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the
season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter
of despair, we had everything before us," echoes the tumultuous nature of our digital era.
Living on the 'threshold of
time,' we face technological
uncertainties that are
certainties, digital disruptions
that rupture the very fabric of
our being with revelry. It is
imperative that we look to the
youth to display a level of
sensibility and maturity that
surpasses that of previous
generations. Should they fail to
do so, the best of times could turn into the worst of times, this age could become a period of digital
dumbness, and despair and darkness will surely follow. The youth must tread with caution,
1
The subtitle of The Prelude is 'Growth of a Poet's Mind'. William Wordsworth (1770-1850) began writing his autobiographical
blank verse epic in 1798, working on it intermittently until 1839. It was published posthumously in 1850.
2
19C protester against technology: a worker who was involved in protests in the United Kingdom in the 1810s against new
factory methods of production and who favored traditional methods of work.
3
A Tale of Two Cities is a historical novel published in 1859 by Charles Dickens, set in London and Paris before and during the
French Revolution.

ensuring they navigate this new path with a profound understanding of the potential consequences
of Artificial Intelligence.
As students of the English language, we must come to terms with the perilous threat that AI, as a
language transformer, poses to our future job prospects. Tools such as OpenAI's ChatGPT have
already achieved an impressive level of performance, which could potentially jeopardize the
livelihoods of English language teachers. Yet, the future is not entirely bleak. Even with the advent
of these language generative tools, there will always be a demand for those who possess the skill
of identifying and rectifying errors. For those who have a natural gift for working with language,
the future is bright. This also serves as an ominous warning for those who have acquired a Masters
in English or passed competitive exams like TET or NET, for they may find themselves jobless or
unwanted if they fail to surpass AI's capabilities in terms of linguistic expertise and literary
sensibilities.
Our current batch (2021-23) has shown remarkable potential, bringing accolades and honor to the
Department of English in various ways. In 2022, many students from this batch secured top
positions in the Research Paper Writing Competition organized by the Research Facilitation Center
of Maharaja Krishnakumarsinhji Bhavnagar University. Several students delivered research paper
presentations in a Seminar of National level, exhibiting their academic prowess. In the Youth
Festival 2022, the Department exhibited an incredible performance after almost two decades of
dormancy. Participation in sports and cultural events was better than ever before, and students
shone brilliantly in other prestigious events of Bhavnagar City, such as Excel Expressions.
Let us not forget that the talents of bygone eras are but echoes of the past, and the arrival of a new
decade demands a novel set of aptitudes to be acquired. The youth of today must don the mantle
of being lifelong learners, possessing an innate ability to self-educate and adapt to the ever-shifting
digital terrain. Alas, the unrelenting onslaught of the pandemic has instilled a sense of languor in
many of you, and the youth must rise up to face not only the challenge of this slothful demeanor
but also the sundry health hazards that accompany unpredictable weather changes, engendering an
array of allergic afflictions.
In these trying times, the virtues of mental and physical well-being will be akin to precious pearls,
coveted and treasured above all else. Hence, it is never too late to cultivate a healthy routine of
engaging in outdoor activities, be it at the break of dawn or the fall of dusk.
Our department strives to cultivate students to not only possess a mature understanding of life and
human nature through the prism of literature but also possess the digital acumen needed to excel
in the contemporary world.
We believe that learning literature helps students gain a deeper understanding of life and human
nature through the prism of different literary works. It enables them to analyze complex ideas,
identify different perspectives, and make informed judgments. By studying literature, students can
develop empathy and sensitivity towards people from diverse cultures and backgrounds, as they
are exposed to various literary works that reflect the human experience.

On the other hand, in today's digital age, having digital skills has become essential for personal
and professional growth. Digital skills are required in almost every field, and students who possess
them are more likely to excel in their careers. By acquiring digital skills, students can improve
their problem-solving abilities, enhance their creativity, and increase their efficiency in performing
various tasks. Additionally, digital skills are in high
demand in the job market, and possessing them can
significantly increase students' employability.
Therefore, the combination of literature and digital
skills creates a well-rounded individual who can
navigate the contemporary world with ease. Students
who possess both can analyze complex issues, think
critically, communicate effectively, and excel in their
careers. The department's aim to cultivate such
students, who can soar high and realize their
aspirations, is commendable as it recognizes the
importance of holistic education that prepares students
for the challenges and opportunities of the 21st
century.
We fervently hope that by the time you graduate, you will have grown wings to soar high and
realize your aspirations with ease.
As we journey through the digital revolution, let us not forget the hopes and aspirations that fuel
our dreams. May we rise to meet the challenges of this new era with Wordsworthian zeal, ever
mindful of the beauty and wonder that surrounds us. Like a butterfly emerging from its cocoon, let
us spread our wings and take flight, soaring towards a future filled with infinite possibilities.
Yet, as we strive for success and fulfillment, let us not be blinded by the bright lights of progress.
Let us heed the warning of Dickensian dichotomies and tales of Hard Times, which remind us of
the dark side of our existence. For in this world of light, there are shadows that lurk in the corners,
waiting to pounce on unsuspecting prey. Let us be vigilant and cautious, ever mindful of the pitfalls
and dangers that lie in wait.
So, my dear friends, let us move forward with optimism and hope, embracing the duality of our
existence. For in this balance lies the key to a successful and fulfilling life. May your hopes and
aspirations remain unscathed, even as we navigate the ever-changing landscape of the digital age.

The Documentation Committee of the Department of English plays a crucial role in documenting
the various events and activities that take place throughout the academic year. In today's digital
age, documentation has become an essential part of our lives. It helps us remember and cherish the
moments that we have lived, and it allows us to share our experiences with the world. The
Documentation Committee understands the importance of documentation and works tirelessly to
ensure that every event, big or small, is recorded for posterity.
The Department of English is a place where students come to learn, grow and develop their skills.
The committee recognizes that learning is not limited to the classroom and that students must be
given opportunities to interact and communicate with each other. To this end, the department has
set up 12 committees, each led by a group of students. These committees are responsible for

planning and organizing various events throughout the year. The Documentation Committee is the
head of all these committees, and it is responsible for keeping track of all the activities and events
that take place.
Throughout the year, the Documentation Committee collects data and information about all the
events and activities that take place. This data includes details such as the date and time of the
event, the number of participants, the objectives of the event, and any feedback or comments
received from the participants. The committee also takes photographs and videos of the events to
create a visual record of the activities.
At the end of the academic year, the Documentation Committee uses all the data collected to
prepare the department's memorabilia. The memorabilia is a record of all the academic and non-
academic achievements of the students. It includes photographs, videos, and written accounts of
the various events and activities that took place throughout the year. The memorabilia is a
testament to the hard work and dedication of the students and serves as a valuable resource for
future generations of students.
The Documentation Committee uses social media platforms such as Facebook to share the
department's activities and events with the wider community. Social media has become an essential
tool for documentation, as it allows us to reach a wider audience and share our experiences with
people who may not have been present at the events. The committee also encourages students to
share their experiences and thoughts about the events on social media, as this helps to create a
sense of community and belonging within the department.
Documentation is an essential part of our lives, and the Documentation Committee of the
Department of English at MKBU recognizes its importance. The committee works tirelessly to
document every event and activity that takes place throughout the year, and uses this data to create
a valuable record of the department's achievements. The memorabilia created by the committee
serves as a testament to the hard work and dedication of the students and is a valuable resource for
future generations. The committee's use of social media helps to create a sense of community and
belonging within the department and allows us to share our experiences with the wider world.
Documentation, the written word,
A vessel for knowledge, undeterred,
A record of truths, a map of progress,
A legacy left for those to possess.

Art can be defined as the expression of human creativity and imagination through various forms
and mediums, such as painting, sculpture, music, dance, literature, theatre, film, and photography.

Art is often used as a means of communication, allowing artists to express their emotions, ideas,
and perceptions of the world around them. It can also be used to challenge social norms, provoke
thought and discussion, and bring about social and political change. Art can be appreciated for its
beauty, technical skill, and originality, as well as for its ability to evoke an emotional response
from the viewer or audience. It is often subjective and open to interpretation, allowing each
individual to have their own unique experience and understanding of a particular work of art.
"Art is not what you see, but what you make others see." - Edgar Degas
"Art is the queen of all sciences communicating knowledge to all the generations of the world." -
Leonardo da Vinci
Degas suggests that art is not just about capturing what is seen visually but also about creating a
particular perception or emotion in the viewer. Art should evoke something in the viewer that goes
beyond the mere depiction of the subject matter. This is why he believes that art is about making
others see - not just what the artist sees but what the artist wants to communicate to the audience.
Leonardo da Vinci views art as a powerful tool for transmitting knowledge across generations. He
sees it as a science that can communicate complex ideas in a way that is accessible to people of all
ages and cultures. In this sense, art is not just a creative expression but also an educational tool
that can convey important ideas and insights.
Youth Festival
Maharaja Krishnakumarsinhji Bhavnagar University organised a four day long (18,19,20,21
September 2022) Youth festival under the campaign ‘Aazadi ka Amrut Mahotsav’. This whole
event is hosted by Takshshila Institute of Science and Commerce. The theme of 2022 youth Fest
is ‘યુવા ઊર્જા મહોત્સવ’ . Due to the corona pandemic this grand intercollege youth festival wasn’t
possible. This year again with the same enthusiasm university, host, institutes and students are
being part of this event. Every year youth fest is declared around 2 month earlier and all the
institutes used to prepare for 2 months but this time due to Gujarat State level youth, MKBU
Youth festival was declared just 15-20 days prior and was performed by the students.

Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has revolutionized the way we learn literature
and language. It has become the backbone of various digital gadgets, providing endless facilities
for students to enhance their learning experience. ICT has opened up a whole new world of digital
tools that help students improve their knowledge of digitization in literature and language.
The impact of ICT on education has been immense, transforming the traditional form of education
into a more modern and dynamic one. In the past, students used to learn from a chalkboard and
blackboard, but now, with the advent of laptops and glass boards, the era has changed dramatically.
The integration of technology into education has made learning more engaging, interactive, and
interesting.
Students are now able to access a vast array of digital learning tools, including e-books, online
courses, educational videos, and interactive quizzes. They can learn at their own pace, using

technology to support their individual learning styles. This has made learning more personalized
and tailored to the needs of each student.
Technology is a rapidly evolving field, and as such, ICT is continuously being updated with the
latest advancements. This means that students can stay up-to-date with the latest trends and
innovations in literature and language. They can also learn from a range of online resources,

Maharaja Krishnakumarsinhji Bhavnagar University granted two View Boards per class to every
department. The Department of English installed view boards in both classrooms in November
2022. It is argued by the sellers that -"Some of the biggest advantages of Interactive Flat Panels
are versatility, interactivity, ease of use, flexibility and variety of tools to help both teachers and
students alike. In today’s interconnected world teachers can share the work of the classroom and
assignments with just a click of a button. Similarly, students can respond and share their
assignments all without connecting even a single wire." - Prof.Dr.Dilip Barad FB
The Department of English has a 10-year-old practice of utilizing ICT tools and incorporating
technology in the academic journey of their students. The journey commences with scanning a QR
code during an Online Entrance Test and culminates in the final year with the submission of an E-
portfolio. This portfolio is a digital record of the student's academic activities during the previous
two years.
Professor Dr.Dilip Barad sir has extensive expertise in utilizing ICT tools, particularly for
enhancing Language and Literature Learning. Under his guidance, students use a variety of ICT
tools throughout the year to make their learning more captivating and fruitful. In addition to the
Academic Syllabus, students display their literary abilities through several ICT tools such as

"Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today."
- Malcolm X
Malcolm X was an American civil rights leader who believed that education was essential for
empowering African Americans and promoting social justice. His quote emphasizes the
importance of education as a means of preparing for the future and creating a better world.
In today's rapidly changing world, education is more important than ever. As technology advances
and the job market evolves, individuals need to be equipped with the skills, knowledge, and
attitudes necessary to succeed in the future. Education provides individuals with the tools they
need to navigate this changing landscape, whether it be through formal schooling or through
lifelong learning opportunities.

breaking down barriers to success. Education can help individuals to overcome poverty,
discrimination, and other obstacles, and to achieve their full potential. Malcolm X's quote
highlights the transformative power of education, both for individuals and for society as a whole.
It emphasizes the need for individuals to invest in their own education, and for societies to invest
in education as a means of creating a better future.
The Department of English provides opportunities for students to develop their intellectual
capabilities and communication skills. One such opportunity is participation in DS, a program that
allows students to hone their critical thinking and public speaking abilities. This program has
become a treasured tradition within our department, and we are grateful for the chance to work as
leaders and inspire our peers to reach their full potential. Our department's daily schedule revolves
around fostering an environment of growth and development, and we take pride in our commitment
to this mission. We believe that by nurturing our students' intellectual curiosity and providing them
with the tools they need to succeed, we can make a meaningful impact on their lives and empower
them to become future leaders in their respective fields.
Daily assemblies are an essential component of educational institutes, and they provide various
benefits that significantly impact the students, staff, and the overall school environment. Daily
assemblies allow for a unified start to the day, promoting a sense of community and togetherness.

a positive outlook, gratitude, and a sense of connection with others, leading to a more fulfilling
and satisfying life.
Celebration refers to a joyful and festive occasion that marks a significant event or milestone.
Celebrations can take many forms, such as parties, ceremonies, festivals, or gatherings, and are
usually accompanied by activities that bring people together and create a sense of happiness,
excitement, and community.
The purpose of celebrations varies depending on the occasion and culture, but generally, they are
meant to commemorate or honour an achievement, a milestone, a tradition, a cultural or religious
event, or simply to have fun and enjoy life. Celebrations can be personal, such as birthdays,
weddings, or graduations, or communal, such as national holidays, religious festivals, or cultural
events.
Celebrations are a way of expressing joy, happiness, and gratitude for life's milestones and
achievements. They bring people together, create shared experiences and memories, and reinforce
our sense of belonging and community.
A Celebration Committee is a group of individuals responsible for organising and coordinating
celebrations and events within an organisation or community. The committee can consist of
volunteers or appointed members, depending on the structure and needs of the organisation.
The role of the Celebration Committee is to plan, organise, and execute various events and
celebrations such as Festivals, Academic days and Birthday of writers and all. The committee
members are responsible for selecting the venue, managing the budget, coordinating vendors,
creating event themes, and ensuring that the event runs smoothly.
To ensure the success of the event, the Celebration Committee typically divides tasks among
members and creates a timeline for planning and execution. Regular meetings and communication
among committee members are essential to ensuring that everyone is informed and on track with
their tasks.
The Celebration Committee plays a crucial role in fostering a positive and engaging workplace
culture by organising events that bring people together and promote a sense of community. This

On 26th January 2023, our university, Maharaja Krishnakumarsinhji Bhavnagar University
celebrated its 74th Republic Day with great enthusiasm. The M.Com department organised the
event, which began with the flag-hoisting ceremony. It was a proud moment for all of us to see the
tricolour soaring high in the air. The event then proceeded with the students from the M.Com and
Department of English performing patriotic songs that filled everyone's hearts with pride and
patriotism. The performances were well-coordinated and thoroughly enjoyed by all. The
University Vice-Chancellor then addressed the gathering, sharing information related to the
university's future plans and the progress made so far. It was inspiring to hear about the various

initiatives undertaken by the university to enhance the quality of education and provide better
opportunities to the students. After the speeches, we all took group photos, capturing the
memorable moments of the event.

There is a well-known quote from Jorge Luis Borges - "I have always imagined that Paradise will
be a kind of a Library." We are fortunate to have a library in our department. Himanshi Parmar
and Hinaba Sarvaiya are the leaders of the library committee at the Department of English, MKBU.
In the year 2022-23 library Committee organized numerous events and visits such as Central
Library Visit, Barton Library Visit, Gandhi Smruti Museum and Library Visit, Bookpratha visit,
and a reading event named 'I am a Storyteller' was organized. The library committee also organized
a visit to BookPratha and purchased many books from the funds provided to the Library
Committee.
One can consider the library as a hub of any educational institute and it is very important to check
its arrangement so the Library Committee rearranged the entire library and reset all the books
chronologically. Along with the rearrangement of the Department library, the Library Committee
made digital entries of all the books. The Library Committee also developed its own online library.
Apart from this, a new practice of blurb writing was also started.
Library Rearrangement:
Memorabilia 2023
86
Under the label of library work, Batch One students started rearranging our library on 15 July
2022, Saturday and successfully completed the task on 4 August 2022, Thursday. It took 20 days
to reorganize the library. The library consists of more than 1061 English Books, 8 Dictionaries,
and more than 100 Gujarati books. We alphabetized all the books, relabeled them, set them
accordingly, and made a digital entry of all the books.
The task was very difficult, we faced many difficulties. As many books were missing so we had
to find those books, and sometimes we mislabeled the books and had to relabel them, we had many
other activities in between library work like a welcome party and other tasks so we had to prepare
for that also, usually, we did library work after study hours so sometimes it became boring as
everyone was tired. But while doing that we learned a lot of things like we got to know about many
authors and books that we didn't know about, we also got to know about different genres, and
encountered many unexpected difficulties and learned to overcome them. And especially learned
how to work with patience.

88
Under the guidance of Dilip Barad sir and Yesha Bhatt ma'am, on August 30, 2022, the Library
Committee organized a reading event named 'I am a Storyteller'. The event location was the
department garden. We all sat around nature and listened to stories. In that event, students from
semesters one and three participated in storytelling. Two Gujarati short stories and two English
short stories were recited by participants. Also, two Gujarati poems or songs were sung well by
the students. The event was hosted by library leaders Himanshi Parmar and Hinaba Sarvaiya. Here
is the list of storytellers.

The 1st February 2023 was indeed a remarkable day in the annals of the Library Committee, the
Library committee masterfully organized a spectacular visit to the central library, a repository of
knowledge that has been the backbone of our university for countless years. With the permission
of Dilip Barad sir Students of semesters Two and Four visited the university library. They learned
how to borrow, renew and return books, how to get a library I card, check the digital availability
of books, how to search for books from the digital library, and got to know about hundreds of
books available in the library.

  • 6. Memorabilia 2023 4 From the Desk of the Head of the Department ~ Dilip Barad Amidst the ethereal dreams of a future world driven by Artificial Intelligence, we now find ourselves living in the very revolution we once imagined. The present is a surreal reality, and its sheer brilliance leaves us in awe. A mere glimpse of AI's eloquence with the English language is enough to make one's heart skip a beat. As we contemplate the digital revolution, we're reminded of Wordsworth's iconic words in Book XI of the Prelude1 : "Bliss was it in that dawn to be alive, But to be young was very heaven! - Oh! Times!" These lines, written for the fervent enthusiasts of the French Revolution, resonate equally with digital aficionados. One could draw parallels between the French Revolution and the digital age, and take the perspective of a typical Luddite2 to discern similarities between the frustration that accompanies a trail of revolution. The Tale of Two Cities3 , which opens with the famous lines, " It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us," echoes the tumultuous nature of our digital era. Living on the 'threshold of time,' we face technological uncertainties that are certainties, digital disruptions that rupture the very fabric of our being with revelry. It is imperative that we look to the youth to display a level of sensibility and maturity that surpasses that of previous generations. Should they fail to do so, the best of times could turn into the worst of times, this age could become a period of digital dumbness, and despair and darkness will surely follow. The youth must tread with caution, 1 The subtitle of The Prelude is 'Growth of a Poet's Mind'. William Wordsworth (1770-1850) began writing his autobiographical blank verse epic in 1798, working on it intermittently until 1839. It was published posthumously in 1850. 2 19C protester against technology: a worker who was involved in protests in the United Kingdom in the 1810s against new factory methods of production and who favored traditional methods of work. 3 A Tale of Two Cities is a historical novel published in 1859 by Charles Dickens, set in London and Paris before and during the French Revolution.
  • 7. Memorabilia 2023 5 ensuring they navigate this new path with a profound understanding of the potential consequences of Artificial Intelligence. As students of the English language, we must come to terms with the perilous threat that AI, as a language transformer, poses to our future job prospects. Tools such as OpenAI's ChatGPT have already achieved an impressive level of performance, which could potentially jeopardize the livelihoods of English language teachers. Yet, the future is not entirely bleak. Even with the advent of these language generative tools, there will always be a demand for those who possess the skill of identifying and rectifying errors. For those who have a natural gift for working with language, the future is bright. This also serves as an ominous warning for those who have acquired a Masters in English or passed competitive exams like TET or NET, for they may find themselves jobless or unwanted if they fail to surpass AI's capabilities in terms of linguistic expertise and literary sensibilities. Our current batch (2021-23) has shown remarkable potential, bringing accolades and honor to the Department of English in various ways. In 2022, many students from this batch secured top positions in the Research Paper Writing Competition organized by the Research Facilitation Center of Maharaja Krishnakumarsinhji Bhavnagar University. Several students delivered research paper presentations in a Seminar of National level, exhibiting their academic prowess. In the Youth Festival 2022, the Department exhibited an incredible performance after almost two decades of dormancy. Participation in sports and cultural events was better than ever before, and students shone brilliantly in other prestigious events of Bhavnagar City, such as Excel Expressions. Let us not forget that the talents of bygone eras are but echoes of the past, and the arrival of a new decade demands a novel set of aptitudes to be acquired. The youth of today must don the mantle of being lifelong learners, possessing an innate ability to self-educate and adapt to the ever-shifting digital terrain. Alas, the unrelenting onslaught of the pandemic has instilled a sense of languor in many of you, and the youth must rise up to face not only the challenge of this slothful demeanor but also the sundry health hazards that accompany unpredictable weather changes, engendering an array of allergic afflictions. In these trying times, the virtues of mental and physical well-being will be akin to precious pearls, coveted and treasured above all else. Hence, it is never too late to cultivate a healthy routine of engaging in outdoor activities, be it at the break of dawn or the fall of dusk. Our department strives to cultivate students to not only possess a mature understanding of life and human nature through the prism of literature but also possess the digital acumen needed to excel in the contemporary world. We believe that learning literature helps students gain a deeper understanding of life and human nature through the prism of different literary works. It enables them to analyze complex ideas, identify different perspectives, and make informed judgments. By studying literature, students can develop empathy and sensitivity towards people from diverse cultures and backgrounds, as they are exposed to various literary works that reflect the human experience.
  • 8. Memorabilia 2023 6 On the other hand, in today's digital age, having digital skills has become essential for personal and professional growth. Digital skills are required in almost every field, and students who possess them are more likely to excel in their careers. By acquiring digital skills, students can improve their problem-solving abilities, enhance their creativity, and increase their efficiency in performing various tasks. Additionally, digital skills are in high demand in the job market, and possessing them can significantly increase students' employability. Therefore, the combination of literature and digital skills creates a well-rounded individual who can navigate the contemporary world with ease. Students who possess both can analyze complex issues, think critically, communicate effectively, and excel in their careers. The department's aim to cultivate such students, who can soar high and realize their aspirations, is commendable as it recognizes the importance of holistic education that prepares students for the challenges and opportunities of the 21st century. We fervently hope that by the time you graduate, you will have grown wings to soar high and realize your aspirations with ease. As we journey through the digital revolution, let us not forget the hopes and aspirations that fuel our dreams. May we rise to meet the challenges of this new era with Wordsworthian zeal, ever mindful of the beauty and wonder that surrounds us. Like a butterfly emerging from its cocoon, let us spread our wings and take flight, soaring towards a future filled with infinite possibilities. Yet, as we strive for success and fulfillment, let us not be blinded by the bright lights of progress. Let us heed the warning of Dickensian dichotomies and tales of Hard Times, which remind us of the dark side of our existence. For in this world of light, there are shadows that lurk in the corners, waiting to pounce on unsuspecting prey. Let us be vigilant and cautious, ever mindful of the pitfalls and dangers that lie in wait. So, my dear friends, let us move forward with optimism and hope, embracing the duality of our existence. For in this balance lies the key to a successful and fulfilling life. May your hopes and aspirations remain unscathed, even as we navigate the ever-changing landscape of the digital age.

  • 32. Memorabilia 2023 30 Art is often used as a means of communication, allowing artists to express their emotions, ideas, and perceptions of the world around them. It can also be used to challenge social norms, provoke thought and discussion, and bring about social and political change. Art can be appreciated for its beauty, technical skill, and originality, as well as for its ability to evoke an emotional response from the viewer or audience. It is often subjective and open to interpretation, allowing each individual to have their own unique experience and understanding of a particular work of art. "Art is not what you see, but what you make others see." - Edgar Degas "Art is the queen of all sciences communicating knowledge to all the generations of the world." - Leonardo da Vinci Degas suggests that art is not just about capturing what is seen visually but also about creating a particular perception or emotion in the viewer. Art should evoke something in the viewer that goes beyond the mere depiction of the subject matter. This is why he believes that art is about making others see - not just what the artist sees but what the artist wants to communicate to the audience. Leonardo da Vinci views art as a powerful tool for transmitting knowledge across generations. He sees it as a science that can communicate complex ideas in a way that is accessible to people of all ages and cultures. In this sense, art is not just a creative expression but also an educational tool that can convey important ideas and insights. • 87. Memorabilia 2023 85 There is a well-known quote from Jorge Luis Borges - "I have always imagined that Paradise will be a kind of a Library." We are fortunate to have a library in our department. Himanshi Parmar and Hinaba Sarvaiya are the leaders of the library committee at the Department of English, MKBU. In the year 2022-23 library Committee organized numerous events and visits such as Central Library Visit, Barton Library Visit, Gandhi Smruti Museum and Library Visit, Bookpratha visit, and a reading event named 'I am a Storyteller' was organized. The library committee also organized a visit to BookPratha and purchased many books from the funds provided to the Library Committee. One can consider the library as a hub of any educational institute and it is very important to check its arrangement so the Library Committee rearranged the entire library and reset all the books chronologically. Along with the rearrangement of the Department library, the Library Committee made digital entries of all the books. The Library Committee also developed its own online library. Apart from this, a new practice of blurb writing was also started. Library Rearrangement:
  • 88. Memorabilia 2023 86 Under the label of library work, Batch One students started rearranging our library on 15 July 2022, Saturday and successfully completed the task on 4 August 2022, Thursday. It took 20 days to reorganize the library. The library consists of more than 1061 English Books, 8 Dictionaries, and more than 100 Gujarati books. We alphabetized all the books, relabeled them, set them accordingly, and made a digital entry of all the books. The task was very difficult, we faced many difficulties. As many books were missing so we had to find those books, and sometimes we mislabeled the books and had to relabel them, we had many other activities in between library work like a welcome party and other tasks so we had to prepare for that also, usually, we did library work after study hours so sometimes it became boring as everyone was tired. But while doing that we learned a lot of things like we got to know about many authors and books that we didn't know about, we also got to know about different genres, and encountered many unexpected difficulties and learned to overcome them. And especially learned how to work with patience.
