War I And Sick Of War
According to William Tecumseh Sherman, he is "tired and sick of war. It is only those who have
neither fired a shot nor heard the shrieks and groans of the wounded who cry aloud for blood, for
vengeance, for desolation. War is hell." This statement is self–explanatory; the nature of war is
reckless. Yes, when experiencing war, some soldiers may come across gratifying sounds of larks,
song–birds, which remind them of ebullient moments. Nevertheless, is brutally fighting really worth
that? Roughly ten million soldiers lost their lives in World War I, along with seven million civilians;
also, many soldiers experienced shell shock, which is a psychological disturbance caused by war. As
a result of the heinous and atrocious experiences that many were put through, this inspired many
poets to record their remembrances. Although war may bring memories of happiness because of the
pleasing sounds, war should be considered a crime regardless of how necessary or justified it seems
because war leads to mental anguish due to the memories of physical pain, soldiers being frightened
because of unexpected occurrences and ferocious deaths.
In the poem Mental Cases by Wilfred Owen, Owen describes in stark detail the ghastly physical
symptoms and memories that led to long–lasting mental torment. A few months before Owen was
killed in action in 1918, he wrote this poem that appears to draw heavily on his own experience of
being 'a mental case' at Craiglockhart War Hospital in Edinburgh where

Joe Hill Research Paper
Joe Hill is from a family of very well known writers, and has tried to get his work to stand on its
own. His father Stephen King, mother Tabitha King, brother Owen King, and sister Naomi King. All
are authors and some more successful than the others. Joe Hill has tried to get away from his father's
vision, but has eventually accepted it. It's easy to see how Joe Hill is so good at thrillers, and horror
stories. It is the family business, and writing has become a normal part of life for him. He had
listened to audiobooks since he was little and Stephen King and done this with all his children.
Unlike his father, he wanted to be out of the King spotlight and make something of his own to be
recognized. He knew that if he used the name King that he would only get published because of that
name. Hill also used comics to use in his stories. He ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although that hard work may have paid off. Joe is now said to be a better writer than even his father.
Stephen had three children and all of them had gone into writing stories, so it was bound to happen
that one of them would become a greater writer even than him. Growing up with audiobooks and his
father's stories, he had years to learn all of his father's techniques. The Kings are American writers,
and have made a successful living being authors. Joe Hill's first published work is a series of short
stories called 20th century ghosts. He has used many different fairytale "villains" as characters for
his books. You would think of characters like dracula are not as scary anymore because of new
movies and stories where they are made of flowers and sparkles. When you read the original they
are nowhere near that, and Joe is trying to bring out the scare factor in his stories, but while trying to
make it good as well. He wants his failures to be private, and thinks that is how it should be. This is
another reason for the use of a pen name to hide who he

R 'n' B soul pianist, singer, and mom–to–be (twice–over!) Alicia Keys has just released a new music
video for her single "We Are Here." Just yesterday, she posted a teaser for the new single, as well as
Tweets enticing fans to give the song a preview listen and to purchase it off of iTunes in anticipation
of her upcoming 2015 album release. Today, she made the music video for the new single public,
and will be performing it live for the first time on the The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon this
evening at 11:30pm. The single is a unifying anthem addressing all the negative happenings in the
world right now, from Baghdad, to Gaza, to Israel, to Nigeria, to the Chinatowns and Harlems of the
world.
Keys' inspiration for "We Are Here" came from a simple question put forth. She told thisisrnb.com,
"The day I wrote this song, I was sitting in a circle of people of all ages and we were asked, 'Why
are you here? Why am I here??' This really hit me on a deep level. I realized no one had ever asked
me that question before. As I prepare to give birth to a new child, I can't help and think about the

Advantages Of Granger Caausity Test
3. Methods and data
Granger causality test (Granger 1969) has been generally used to find the causality relationship
between variables. This test told that if past values of a variable (y) significantly contribute to
forecast the future value of another variable (x) then y is said to Granger cause x. Conversely, if past
values of x statistically improve the prediction of y, then we can conclude that x Granger causes y
(ibid). This paper also uses the tool of the Granger causality test to examine the causality
relationship between SDP and EC. This paper used (Oxley and Greasley1998), a three–stage
procedure to test the direction of causality which is also used by (Ghosh, S., 2002). The first step is
to tests the order of integration of the variables ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This implies that even if SDP and EC are individually non stationary but their combined effect is
stationary that is they are co–integrated. Further implies that there is long run relationship between
SDP and EC in Assam. The long–run relationship among the variables merely shows the degree of
association, but we cannot say the direction of the relationship that is whether SDP causes EC or EC
causes SDP. So, we have used Granger causality tests to examine the direction of linkage among the
variables. But for a VAR system with co–integrated variables the Granger causality test must be
conducted in a vector error correction model (VECM) setting (Greene 2008). However, the absence
of residual serial correlation, absence of heteroskedasticity of the individual equations has also
confirmed the correct order of VECM selection. Table3 shows the result of Granger causality

Thief Of Always Character Analysis
Clive Barker's The Thief of Always truly develops the story through Harvey and
Wendell's friendship. Harvey is a brave kind friend to Wendell who on the other hand, is a scaredy–
cat, and doesn't always appreciate what Harvey does for him. The two friends work together and are
on a quest to go home but when a stranger walks up onto Harvey's front porch he is forced to turn
back and defeat Mr. Hood. Harvey unlike Wendell hasn't been at the Holiday House for very long.
Wendell knows the in's and out's of the house, while Harvey and Wendell work together to defeat
Mr. Hood. Wendell shows Harvey what he knows about the house and together, take back what
Hood stole. Clive Barker truly shows the significance of the similarities, differences, and the ...

Harvey is easily the bravest person in the holiday house. The first place that Harvey shows his
bravery is when he is transmutes into a vampire. The narrator of the story admits that Harvey is
brave enough to do this prank to Wendell. "His cry became a whoop;his terror to joy"(46). This
quote explains how Harvey cares about Wendell and didn't want to harm him at first but when Jive
pushed off the roof and into the night sky he was brave. He also has a mischievous side underneath
all the sweet, caring Harvey. Harvey's joy got the best of him and turned into bravery. Wendell is a
coward compared to his best friend Harvey. Wendell truly shows his cowardness when Harvey
transforms himself into a vampire. Wendell cries for mercy and eventually gets his way. "Don't kill
me! Please, please, I beg you–don't kill me" (46)! This quote truly proves that Wendell is a coward.
It also proves he doesn't have the investigation side to this scene. Harvey knows when something is
wrong or something isn't right. And this shows that Wendell does not have what it takes to be as
brave as Harvey. This exemplifies that Wendell is not the hero but the hero's sidekick who later on,
helps Harvey a lot. This is the most important part of Harvey and Wendell's friendship. They care
about each other. Harvey is kind about Wendell's weaknesses.

Flood Tide By Clive Cussler
Winston S. Churchill once said," I have nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears and sweat". In the
novel Flood Tide by Clive Cussler, Dirk Pitt shows he is always ready for whatever may come next,
and he will attempt to accomplish the task to the best of his ability. Dirk Pitt continually exemplifies
the true meaning of having helpfulness, bravery, and intelligence in his everyday life. Dirk Pitt, a
Special Projects Director at NUMA, displays many important traits one of which is his helpfulness
towards others. In the beginning of the book, President Wallace orders Pitt to help Immigration
Service with several projects. In a secret meeting between Admiral James Sandecker, Commander

Pitt shows his helpfulness through numerous events, and he also shows his ability to be brave in a
time of need. Pitt's bravery often proves useful in his fight against Qin Shang. It is in the middle of
the book, when Pitt shows his bravery strongly for one of the first times. When Pitt is sailing out of
China on The Oregon he gets attacked by a Chinese Warship. During the fight Cabrillo, the ship's
captain, watches Pitt down on deck, "From his vantage point on the bridge wing, Cabrillo stood
rooted in awe of the unbelievable sight of Pitt contemptuously brushing aside the air filled with the
maddening clatter of the Chengdo's storm of thirty–seven–millimeter shells that scythed across The
Oregon's cargo deck" (215). This demonstrates the astonishing bravery and lack of fear of death Pitt
has. He continually amazes those around him with his bravery and determination. Earlier in the
book at Orion Lake, Pitt sneaks into Qin Shang's human prison, there he finds two guards,"
accustomed to cowering and frightened captives, the two Chinese guards were petrified with shock
at being attacked by a reckless, crazy man in a rubber suit whose body was considerably larger than
either of theirs" (83). Pitt attacks these guards in an effort to save the Chinese immigrants from their
captors. After he knocks out the guards, Pitt tries to rescue some immigrants by taking them by boat.
He takes them down the river where they are being shot at by some more guards. They are about to

Essay 2
"Hello mother, father, this is your Louie talking. This will be the first time in two years that you've
heard my voice. I am now interned at a Tokyo prisoner of war camp and I'm being treated as well as
can be expected under wartime conditions." As a viewer we can see the look of pure disgust and
longing upon Louie's face. It was evident that he wasn't eager to read what was prepared for him as
it depicted a false perception of what his wartime conditions were truly like. The fact that he had to
make it seem like he was well when in fact he was anything but. I am now able to understand that
what those in society often herd about their captured soldiers was quite often incorrect. The enemy
wanted to portray an image that hid the true conditions and circumstances the American soldiers
were subject to. I not only found this film inspiring as it showed the resilience American soldiers
had whilst confined in the prisoner of war camps but also found it interesting as it showed the truths
of war so vividly in way that could never be achieved through the use of written words. As a result
of this film I am able to see how much we owe these men for our freedom, we were never truly able
to appreciate the sacrifice made by those men and women until viewing this incredible film. They
went through so much to ensure the freedom of many generations to come and if it wasn't for these
men who knows what our lives would be like today.

The War Poems of Wilfred Owen
Contradicting the Classical Ideas of Heroism and Romanticism in Dulce et Decorum est, The Send
Off, But I Was Looking At The Permanent Stars, The Deadbeat soldier, Counter Attack, Metal Cases
and other War Poems by Wilfred Owen
Owen displays the reality of war, atypically shown in 20th century literature. By divulging the
secrecies and terrors of brutal warfare, he exposes the superficiality of valor and false heroism;
through his vivid writing, he opens the eyelids of his readers and discloses, "the old lie (Owen,
Dulce et Decorum est, 25). Owen breaks idealism, replacing it with illness, physical injuries,
exhaustion, fatigue and personal hells. Contrasting the Hemingway code hero, Owen displays the
reality of war, which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Reality equals death. Pain is in existence and the pangs of murder rip up the throats of the prayer–
less men, like toxic acid from Satan's belly. Life is but a savage beast and its harpoon is sleep. In
consciousness they have to deal with the bitter realities of war; pain and memories, the latter being
the strongest. In this eternal dream all is at peace and harsh memories are discarded. A soldier
becomes godlike granting life or death, " a creature of benevolence bestowing rest on the exhausted
soldier, a blessed relief after the stresses of war( Musil, 256)." "First sleep took him by the brow
then the second took him by the heart(257)." The death is a momentary disturbance to the forgiving
REM cycle and then life "ebbs away and stillness ensues (256)."
"Asleep.......sleep......sleeping.........sleepy(256)," the repetition magnifies a sense of peace. "Men
marched asleep (Dulce et Decorum est, 7)," the idea of sleep and fatigue are very prevalent in
Owen's works. Owen talks of "in all my dreams"/"smothering dreams (15)." The men are clumsy
and fumbling. They "turned their backs (3)" against the sheets of shelled rain. They become blink,
dead, in helpless sight. Consciousness equals pain and reality equals realization; the realization of
lost lives, unfaithful wives and fleeting youths.
Owen questions the sizing up of men through courage and bravery. In Dulce et Decorum est Owen
questions, "pro propane mori, dulce et decorum est

his humble beginnings, story of sacrifice, and dedication on the racetrack and in the fight against the

each character's morning routine in current time. Such as Chas' obsession with fitness at the gym
and how Richie still held onto his collection of his toy cars in the background as he gets ready in the

feels like he has to be a man in charge because he isn't over the death of his wife. Richie has had a

She had always been secretive since she was young and it was her thing. Robert Ebert also

Similarities Between Wilfred Owen And Siegfried Sassoon
The poet Siegfried Sassoon saw that war was destructive and it should not happen because it was a
waste of human life, Sassoon described the horror of war unsparingly, also, his poems were often
based on actual incidents. Wilfred Owen focused his poetry on the particulars of war and the men
involved: dirt, muddle, boredom etc, Owen often wrote about the horror of war and the dignity of
men. He deeply felt a sense of the appalling wastefulness of war, casualties and the human spirit.
The similarities between these two poets are they both tried to record realistic horrors of the war; to
have it stopped. They were both angry at the war's brutality, they were also showed very
compassionate studies of the circumstances of fighting men.
The connection I made between these 2 texts is that they both experienced death, these texts are
Memorial Tablet by Siegfried Sassoon and Dulce et Decorum Est by Wilfred Owen. In the poem
Memorial tablet, Siegfried Sassoon wrote about a man being forced to fight in the war, the man
fought for "two bleeding years", but this man was shot "My wound was slight, I was hobbling back;
and then a shell Burst slick upon the duckboards: so I fell Into the bottomless mud, and lost the
light.". In Dulce et Decorum Est Wilfred Owen watched a man choke to death by gas, Wilfred Owen
screamed "Gas! Gas! Quick, boys!" But he could hear someone screaming "But someone still was
yelling out and stumbling And flound'ring like a man in fire or lime... Dim, through

Tennyson & Owen
War Poems & Their Ideas The poems, The Charge of The Light Brigade and Dulce et Decorum Est,
both deal with an idea of war. The writers both have the same viewpoint about war, but the way that
they articulate those ideas on paper varies. Through literary devices in the poems, the authors show
two different wars, but the same tragic outcome – death. These two poems showcase how people
can have different outlooks on war, but in the end they all end with the same deadly outcome. These
writers, Wilfred Owen and Alfred Lord Tennyson, uses tone, metaphor or repetition, and rhyming

The tone that Alfred Lord Tennyson created for this poem has an honorable and celebratory feel to it
for those whom were lost. The overall tone of the poem capitalizes on the his idea of war and how
we should be acting towards those who have given up themselves to hopefully makes their country
better. Wilfred Owen's Dulce et Decorum Est also created a specific tone in his poem as well. His
poem takes on a completely different tone though. In his version of a war piece, Owen is showing us
how war is bad and how much he feels that it is wrong, and how we won't like the conclusion that
results from them. This war poem, about the First World War, has a more negative look on the
actions of war. An example of this tone can be seen in the first stanza. According to the Bloom's
Literary Reference Online, "The first stanza presents a scene saturated with misery." (Dulce et
Decorum Est) Throughout the entire piece Owen gives us the tone of misery, awful challenges, and
death – all negative feelings. We can see in the last couple of lines of the poem how Owen really felt
about war, "The old Lie, Dulce et Decorum est / Pro patria mori." (27–28) This roughly translates to
'it is sweet and right to die for your country.' It is a wonderful thing that one could die for their
country, the soldiers should be filled with honor to do so. But Wilfred Owen tells us

As a son of a sharecropper and grandson of a slave, Jesse Owens created History in 1936 when he

this era, the United States had limited civil rights and was approaching a World War with Hitler
rising into power in Germany. Although Owens was victorious on the track, because of the color of
his skin, He was looked down upon and unrecognized by even his own country. Through the
excessive racism, one may ask how Owens moved forward and dealt with such negativity in a
situation that should have been celebrated.

On May 25th, 1935 Jesse Owens set three world records in a span of forty–five minutes at the Big

Hydraulic Civilizations and the Philanthropic Industrialists
1. Historical Origins
For many planners and historians the origin of ancient cities has been a source of fascination and the
cause for much research and debate. One theory developed by the German–American historian Karl
Wittfogel was that of 'hydraulic civilizations' (Minnery 2010a). Hydraulic civilizations were
described as those whose agricultural system was reliant upon significant government–directed
water systems for irrigation and flood management (Encyclopædia Britannica 2010). Wittfogel
listed that Egypt, India, Mesopotamia, Northern China and pre–Columbian Mexico and Peru were
examples of hydraulic civilizations (Minnery 2010a). This paper will focus on the theories of the

One other dissimilarity is that of Brisbane's environment. It isn't arid or semi–arid in fact it was once
lined with sand covered beaches and the water was clear and blue (Our Indooroopilly 2002).
Therefore it is difficult to prove that Brisbane has similar qualities to that of a hydraulic civilization
and Wittfogel's theories can be left in the past with the 'Old World'. 3. The "Philanthropic
Industrialist"
The United Kingdom in the late eighteenth and nineteenth century was home to the bustling and
demanding Industrial Revolution. Factories emerged all over the country as technology advanced
into an era of mass production. In many of these factories the conditions were unclean, unsafe and
ultimately appalling. Some factory owners however, sought out to improve the quality of life for
their workers. These few are recognised as the 'Philanthropic Industrialists'. They implemented what
has become known as the 'company town' which saw the social and economic qualities of the
township under the control of the industrialist (Pollard 1964). This paper will discuss one UK
example in the town of New Lanark, in particular the philanthropy of Robert Owen and will

Athar Story
It was a great day in the village of Athar, everyone was busy doing their daily chores. The children
were playing with stones, the men were away hunting, and the women collecting vegetables. The
King of Athar was being a cocky man like always walking around the village ordering everyone
around and of course, everyone listened because they didn't want to be executed. Execution was
something the village was just told about. There was this story in which The King of Athar was
ordering around the town's jeweler, he disobeyed and the king killed him for it. This is how life has
always been in Athar, we follow the rules and everyone says 'happy'. But one night everything

Critique of a Website Essay
Critique of a Website
Web sites are just like magazines, newspapers, brochures, menus, or even directions on how to make
nitroglycerin from house–hold goods, in that they all have to be put together in such a manner that
whoever is reading or browsing over it will be able to clearly distinguish this from that. In this
sense, a critique of any particular web site will have justification, while carefully considering also
that this is an altogether new medium of information exchange. Now, all of this talk of togetherness
is actually a general reference to basic design principles, such as color coordination, if color is used,
text size, font choice/ style, art integration, accessibility, and just plain and simple design of the
page. For ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I'm not saying make–up is evil, but we all know what's in somewhat good taste, and what isn't. But,
hey!, I could be wrong: There could actually be a great person hiding under that crusty exterior;
most of the time there is. A balance needs to be achieved or at least strived for when designing a
web page or any page for that matter. I'm not trying to rag on Raygun or anything, because I like A
LOT of the stuff that they do, but one must not get carried away with it and ignore what one is
supposed to be doing in the first place. For this reason I have chosen to pick on the Alternative X
web site (http://www.altx.com/), for this paper. Well, not really pick on them, but you know what I
mean. So in our quest to discover the ideal web page we must look at the following things: 1) Does
it make sense? Is its layout so erratic in such a way as to render the viewer blind because of the
designers lack of vision and utter stupidity? 2) Organization. How and why were things placed in the
places they were placed, needs to be known, or at least made seemingly apparant. 3) Since this is a
web site we are critiquing, and like a Choose–Your–Own–Adventure Book one can skip to another
section with almost no fear of being inquisitioned, does its "links" lead to somewhere meaningful?
The first thing one sees when first viewing this page is a yellow screen with a single "X" in the
center with "alt" typed across it. Nice. Let me go off on a tangent here: I

Horrifying War In Dulce Et Decorum Est By Wilfred Owen
In the poem, "Dulce et Decorum Est" by Wilfred Owen, shows how truly horrifying war can be. By
using incredibly detailed imagery and effective language to show just what happened during war
time and making readers experience feelings such as pity, sorrow, and remorse. Owen describes the
many hardships that the soldiers went through even so far as describing a deadly gas attack that
claimed one of the soldiers and had burned into his mind the scaring imagery of someone he knew
choking to death because of the deadly mist that was all around them. Owens poem is very genuine
since he had participated in the bloody savagery that was World War 1. The poem begins with a
detailed description of the lifestyle and poor conditions that the soldiers had to endure on a day to
day basis which led them to age incredibly quickly. "Bent double, like old beggars under sacks,
Knock–kneed, coughing like hags, we cursed through sludge" This quote suggest that the soldiers
were like homeless people, dirty and sick. This comes as a surprise because many people believe
that the appearance of soldiers are to be muscular and alethic, not scrawny and weak but their
appearances changed drastically because the conditions they were living in were beyond
imagination (Owen, p.723). This first quote is where we get the impression that the speaker was
there during the events since he uses "we" to explain how they went through the sludge. This
imagery helps to display how hard it must have been to move yet

Compare and contrast the poems Anthem for Doomed Youth by Wilfred
Owen and The Soldier by Rupert Brooke. What are the poets' attitudes towards war and how do they
convey these attitudes?
Wilfred Owen's "Anthem for Doomed Youth" and Rupert Brooke's "The
Soldier" express opposing views towards war and matters related to it.
Owen condemns war as the cause of immense and painful loss of youths, killed like animals. He
also attacks the church, generally held to preserve human life and dignity, implying it is powerless
and irrelevant in a war situation. Brooke expresses ready acceptance (his view is meant to be the
general view) of possible death on his country's behalf in grateful return to her for having "bore,
shaped and made ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If Brooke had mentioned materialistic things like special rights, possession or power then it gives
rise to the thought that his gratitude is questionable, because he has enjoyed privileges denied to
others.
In the second stanza, Brooke whole–heartedly declares that he will return to England what he has
been given. In his poem, Brooke doesn't criticise war or religion but emphasises whole–hearted
readiness to return to England what he has been given. The spiritual being created and enriched by
England is returned gratefully. Brooke doesn't mention anything about the horrors of war. Even
death is not presented as something repulsive or of a loss but instead as a repayment to his country.
He feels indebted to England and is completely happy to settle his debt. He will return to England
what she gave him – his
"dust" and delightful "thoughts".
Brooke's poem has a confident tone of quiet conviction. The whole poem sounds proud and
dignified. Much of the time Brooke just praises
England and this makes the poem seem cheerful even. The first four lines of his poem are very
patriotic "If I should die, think only this of me In that rich earth a richer dust concealed". Brooke
says these lines in a quiet confident manner. The tone lightens from then, as he describes pleasant
things like "flowers", "love" and "rivers". The beginning of the second stanza repeats the first line,
and continues with a calm statement of returning England's

Analysis of the Film "Inside Man" Essay
Patrick Carruthers Neupert – Film Studies
The True "Inside Man" "Inside Man" was released in 2006 and would later become the highest
grossing film for the director Spike Lee. The film is a crime–drama, located primarily in a bank in
New York City run by multi billionaire Arthur Case. Although the film is a thriller and contains bits
of action and suspense, the movie focuses heavily on the difference between good and evil. The
movie begins with a shot in medias res of Clive Owen's character Dalton Russell explaining the
difference between being stuck in a tiny cell and being in prison while he moves around a small
room ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the film unfolds, the audience learns that although there were financial morals fueling the master
plan, there was also the desire to bring justice upon a man that had betrayed and cheated his way to
the top, thus giving the audience a sense of righteousness in what Russell was doing. Russell had
become not only the man literally inside the bank, but inside the lies of Case with the means to
expose them. This alignment serves to form a sort of paradoxical allegiance in which although the
audience understands he is the leader of a criminal group, he is also uncovering the secrets of an evil
man and thus somewhat proving his innocence. This same allegiance causes the audience to enjoy
the conclusion, both out of respect for the intelligence of the plan and because of his ability to
escape with the documents and potentially to uncover the awful past of Arthur Case. Although Ms.
White's thoughts are never truly expressed in the film, she plays a huge role in the formation of the
plot. Recognition of Ms. White comes easily for the fact that she is a woman, and she is of power.
An important aspect of her appearance is her clothing, being that in every shot she is shown wearing
formal clothing and more importantly; heels. The clothing and heels serve to portray her as an

Comparing Irony of War in Dulce et Decorum, Regeneration,...
Irony of War Exposed in Dulce et Decorum, Regeneration, and Quiet on the Western Front
Many of the young officers who fought in the Great War enlisted in the army with glowing
enthusiasm, believing that war was played in fancy uniforms with shiny swords. They considered
war as a noble task, an exuberant journey filled with honor and glory. Yet, after a short period on the
front, they discovered that they had been disillusioned by the war: fighting earned them nothing but
hopelessness, death and terror. They had lost their lives to the lost cause of war, which also killed
their innocence and youth. They were no longer boys but callous men. Wilfred Owen's poem "Dulce

He uses "An ecstasy of fumbling" (9) to describe the men grasping for their gas masks during the
attack. The fact that "ecstasy" is used with "fumbling" is surprising and disturbing but suggests the
difference between the society's beliefs about the war and the actuality of it. Images such as
"flound'ring like a man in fire or lime..." (12), "He plunges at me, guttering, choking, drowning."
(16), "His hanging face, like a devil's sick of sin" (20), "Come gargling from the froth–corrupted
lungs" (22) hurls the pain of war and death into the readers face. By the end of the third and last
stanza, the irony of the title has completely unfolded:
My friend, you would not tell with such high zest
To children ardent for some desperate glory,
The old lie: Dulce et decorum est
Pro patria mori. (25–29)
Through vivid imagery and compelling metaphors, Owen wants people to stop lying about how
"sweet" and "fitting" it is "to die for one's country".
Pat Barker's 1991 novel, Regeneration, represents her fictional–historical account of Rivers'
treatment of the war poet Siegfried Sassoon. The novel's anti–war message is very clear and well
argued from Barker's point of view because by emphasizing on war and madness she shows us how
the minds of her characters were damaged by the war.
The novel begins with Sassoon's letter of resignation: " I am a soldier,

Jesse Owens 1913–1980 American track and field athlete Few athletes have transcended their sports
to become a symbol of an era as did Jesse Owens. Enduring a childhood marked by grinding poverty
in Alabama, Owens became a star athlete in high school after his family moved to Cleveland, Ohio.
His achievements earned Owens several lucrative offers to attend college as a track–and–field
athlete, and he enrolled at Ohio State University in 1933. On May 25, 1935, Owens made national
headlines for setting five world records and tying another record at the Big Ten Intercollegiate

Athletic Success as a Teenager Owens enrolled in Cleveland's Fairmount Junior High School around
1927 and quickly attracted the attention of a mentor who would prove crucial in his future athletic
success. Charles Riley worked at the school as a physical education teacher and track–and–field
coach and immediately realized that Owens was a naturally gifted athlete who had not yet taken up
serious training. Riley started a rigorous training program for Owens in special morning sessions
before school. Within a year, Owens was running the 100–yard dash in eleven seconds and in 1928
he set two world records for his age group in the high jump, at six feet, and the long jump, at
twenty–two feet, eleven and three–quarters inches. Under Riley's instruction to run as though the
track were on fire, Owens also improved his times on the track. Of the seventy–nine races he
entered in high school, Owens won seventy–five of them. Owens also formed a warm personal
relationship off the track with Riley, who continued to coach him after he entered East Technical
High School in 1930. After Henry Owens suffered a traffic accident in 1929 and experienced
extended periods of unemployment in the Great Depression, Riley's role as a surrogate father was
especially important to the young athlete. Chronology 1913 Born September 12 in Danville,

Jesse Owens Essay
One of the most influential events in American history occurred when Jesse Owens won four gold
medals at the 1936 Berlin Olympics. This accomplishment and others that he would achieve in his
life time, were inspiring given the historical context in which he rose to fame. Jesse Owens created a
historic legacy not just because of his record finishes on the track, but also due to the challenging
times in which he competed.
Jesse Owens was born on September 12, 1913, in Oakville, Alabama. Jesse's father was a
sharecropper which meant he was paid to farm other peoples' land. Jesse had six siblings who
picked cotton with him on a rich man's farm in Alabama when they were young. At age nine the

That day he won four events, set three world records, and he tied a fourth record all in forty–five
minutes. He tied the world record by running the one hundred yard dash in nine point four–seconds.
He then broke a world record by jumping twenty–six feet eight and one quarter inches in the long
jump. Later, he finished the two hundred twenty yard dash in twenty point three–seconds for another
world record. That same day, he broke a third world record by finishing the two hundred twenty
yard low hurdle race in twenty–two point six seconds.(Shwartz 1) He was so outstanding at track
and field, that during his junior year of college he won every single one of the forty–two events in
which he competed. Three of those events were Olympic trials for the 1936 Olympics ("About Jesse
Owens" 3) guarantying that he would be going to Berlin to compete for a medal.
The 1936 Olympic games took place in Berlin, Germany, when Jesse Owens was twenty–two. At
that time, Adolf Hitler was the ruler of Germany. Hitler believed that the German or "Aryan" race
was superior to all others and he intended to prove it in the Olympics. He did not approve of the
Americans having black or Jewish athletes. The Olympics began on August 1, 1936.(Raatma 23)

He also shows the courage of the soldiers by writing, "Men marched asleep". Many had lost their
boots, but limped on, blood–shod". The first stanza has eight lines and follows the rhyming scheme
of A, B, A, B through out the poem.
Owen uses this stanza as a tool to build–up the story and is able to set the scene for the reader. Owen
uses many similes in this poem and writes, "Bent double, like old beggars under sacks," and
"Knock–kneed, coughing like hags, we cursed through sludge". Owen uses a number of verbs as
adjectives such as "haunting flares" and "dropping flares…" The second Stanza is six lines and it
also has the rhyming scheme A, B, A, B, C, D.
Throughout the stanza Owen uses graphic detail to emphasise the pain of the soldiers, which creates
for the reader a violent image, which is calmed down by the last line, "Of gas– shells dropping
softly behind." The next line is, "Gas! Gas! Quick, boys!" Again this changes the mood, from
peaceful to violent. The reader then becomes prepared for some action in the poem. This is a swift
build up of description into the untimely demise of one of the soldiers. There are a lot of one word
sentences and exclamation marks to show the panic and horror of the soldiers.
The soldier, who is harmed by the gas bomb, is described by Wilfred
Owen as a helpless creature through the usage of words such as
"floundering". The polluted air around him is described as "a green
sea."

Present study employs secondary data on the concerned variables such as Indian FDI flows,
structure of Indian FDI, Nepalese GDP, investment and export from FY 1988/89 to 2013/14. The
necessary data are taken from Economic Survey 2013/14 and Department of Industry, Nepal. The

Fully Modified Ordinary Least Squares (FMOLS) is the main econometric methodology used in this
paper to examine the role and impact of Indian FDI on Nepalese economic growth. The FMOLS of
economic growth of Nepal on Indian FDI augmented with level of investment and export has been
used to find the magnitude of long run relationship between the variables under study. GDP is taken
as the proxy for Nepalese economic growth.
Some attention is necessary while employing FMOLS test. The variables under study must be
cointegrated. So before applying the FMOLS we examine the cointegration by method of Johansen's

Stephen King A Memoir Of The Craft On Writing Analysis
In the presence of Stephen King's memoir called, A Memoir of the Craft: On Writing, he expresses
his inner–thoughts on how he develops his capability in order to construct the novels that exist
today. Through the failures and the prosperous moments, he still began to write and he never took a
brief moment to pause with regrets. He begins the memoir by relaying to the audience his secret
ambitions by asserting, "Horror movies, science fiction movies, movies about teenage gangs on the
prowl, movies about losers on motorcycles– this was the stuff that turned my dials up to ten" (45).
King began writing at the age of twelve by the influence of his mother, who encouraged him to

Through the failures and through the prosperous moments, he still began to write and he still did not
stop. He begins the memoir by relaying to the audience his secret ambitions by saying, "Horror
movies, science fiction movies, movies about teenage gangs on the prowl, movies about losers on
motorcycles– this was the stuff that turned my dials up to ten" (45). King began writing at the age of
twelve by the influence of his mother, who encouraged him to apply his high–capacity writing talent
into a novel. In the beginning, he went from a young boy who plagiarizes papers from movies to a
writer in his school newspaper where he broadened his understanding of the composition of
literature. Later on in his life, he had numerous amounts of rejection slips: magazines, printing
presses, and newspapers. Nevertheless, he absorbed the information piled to him and continued to
write. Stephen King's life certainly affects his works in many incomprehensible ways. This is a
highly–motivated text in order to show the true form of giving up versus not giving up in which
King's actions are primarily through

Alicia Keys Accomplishments
Alicia Keys, a multiple Grammy Award–winning singer–songwriter shows compassion in various
things and opportunities outside of music. Not only is she a Pianist, singer, and television actress,
she is extremely active in one of the most important organizations in the world "Keep A Child
Alive". Amongst her musical talent and high held reputation, Alicia keys' movements have
influenced other artist to follow in her footsteps.
The beginning of the young stars dream started as a young child. Alicia Keys was born January
25th, 1981 in the "concrete jungle" New York, New York. At just the age of 7, Alicia was
exceptional on the keys. Her talents took her heights and wound her at Manhattan's prestigious
Professional Performance Arts School. Here she ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This really hit me on a deep level. I realized no one had ever asked me that question before. As I
prepare to give birth to a new child, I can't help and think about the world I'm bringing my baby
into. No matter where we come from, when we see the state of the world today, we can all feel the
growing frustration and desire to make a difference. And we all have a voice – we just need to know
how to make it heard. I have a vision that I believe is more than a dream, that I know can be our
reality. I believe in an empowered world community built on the true meaning of equality – where
we are all considered one people, regardless of race, religion, gender, zip code, belief system or

Havana Storm Character Analysis
Havana Storm Betraying your best friend would never cross the mind of a sane person, but it did for
Henry. Well in the book Havana Storm by Clive Cussler, Henry is Dirk's best friend. After Henry
betrayed Dirk they were fighting against to get the special treasure and they are using the Rebels and
the N.U.M.A against each other. In this I will be predicting on what Henry will do. Questioning on
what Dirk will think and evaluate the situation between Henry and Dirk. In the beginning there was
a boat the blew up and with Dirk on the ship, so I believe that Henry had something to do with the
explosion. A possibility could be that Henry was never on Dirks side in the first place. For example
he could have just used Dirk to get the chest. I also predict that Henry will try to blow up another
ship that he thinks Dirk is on, but it is just a decoy by Dirk so Henry will think he is in the clear and
is able to go after the treasure, although in reality Dirk is going to be waiting to capture Henry. I
think Dirk has precisely placed the chest on an island of the bahamas, near the rebels base. So as
Henry tries to go out to the island to get the chest Dirk and Numa will be waiting for him. Another
prediction that I have is that Numa is actually a made up organization by Henry, because Henry said
"You don't know Numa,I Know Numa" (C. Cussler, 367). This statement leads me to think that
Henry is involved with Numa or Henry could be running the whole operation because the chest is
worth

West Jet Airlines Case Study Analysis
West Jet Airlines Case Analysis On February 29, 1996, WestJet Airlines came to life. They became
the face of low–cost, short–haul, point–to–point airline in Western Canada. The organization began
when entrepreneur Clive Beddoe, president of the Hanover Group of Companies purchased an
aircraft for personal use. Beddoe later made his aircraft available to other business people through
Morgan Air, owned and operated by Tim Morgan. Tim Morgan, along with Calgary businessmen
Don Bell and Mark Hill found an opportunity to start an airline. They all reached out to David
Neelman, who was president of Morris Air and asked for assistance with writing the business plan
for WestJet. They joined forces and WestJet Airlines came to life. Each of the ... Show more content

Smith was used to working with hostile unions and tried to demonstrate that in a different culture.
This behavior later led Smith to suddenly resign in September of 2000. As stated before, WestJet's
culture and their employees are one of their main reasons for their great success. If not careful, this
could be the cause of their downfall. WestJet Airlines seem to connect their culture with their hiring
process. West Jet is known as a fun, enthusiastic, and playful environment. During the hiring
process, they look for employees who have a great sense of humor and are new to the airline field.
Often employees play jokes on passengers and amongst each other. As WestJet continues to expand,
they will not be able to keep their culture as is.
WestJet is known for their nice and playful environment. They have even stated that employees tend
to play jokes on one another, this could lead to future complications. For example, the vice president
of the airlines would send the new employees to get the keys of the airplane, knowing the airplane
does not need keys to fly. This is all clean fun, however, what 's not to say that employees might
make a joke that is out of line taking into consideration they are new to this field. For example, the
legal case of Fuerschbach vs. Southwest Airlines where a prank was taken way out of line.
Southwest was also known for their fun–loving spirited company, just like WestJet. The employees
were also known to play jokes on one another. One day,

War I And Sick Of War

  • 1. War I And Sick Of War According to William Tecumseh Sherman, he is "tired and sick of war. It is only those who have neither fired a shot nor heard the shrieks and groans of the wounded who cry aloud for blood, for vengeance, for desolation. War is hell." This statement is self–explanatory; the nature of war is reckless. Yes, when experiencing war, some soldiers may come across gratifying sounds of larks, song–birds, which remind them of ebullient moments. Nevertheless, is brutally fighting really worth that? Roughly ten million soldiers lost their lives in World War I, along with seven million civilians; also, many soldiers experienced shell shock, which is a psychological disturbance caused by war. As a result of the heinous and atrocious experiences that many were put through, this inspired many poets to record their remembrances. Although war may bring memories of happiness because of the pleasing sounds, war should be considered a crime regardless of how necessary or justified it seems because war leads to mental anguish due to the memories of physical pain, soldiers being frightened because of unexpected occurrences and ferocious deaths. In the poem Mental Cases by Wilfred Owen, Owen describes in stark detail the ghastly physical symptoms and memories that led to long–lasting mental torment. A few months before Owen was killed in action in 1918, he wrote this poem that appears to draw heavily on his own experience of being 'a mental case' at Craiglockhart War Hospital in Edinburgh where ... • 5. Joe Hill Research Paper Joe Hill is from a family of very well known writers, and has tried to get his work to stand on its own. His father Stephen King, mother Tabitha King, brother Owen King, and sister Naomi King. All are authors and some more successful than the others. Joe Hill has tried to get away from his father's vision, but has eventually accepted it. It's easy to see how Joe Hill is so good at thrillers, and horror stories. It is the family business, and writing has become a normal part of life for him. He had listened to audiobooks since he was little and Stephen King and done this with all his children. Unlike his father, he wanted to be out of the King spotlight and make something of his own to be recognized. He knew that if he used the name King that he would only get published because of that name. Hill also used comics to use in his stories. He ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although that hard work may have paid off. Joe is now said to be a better writer than even his father. Stephen had three children and all of them had gone into writing stories, so it was bound to happen that one of them would become a greater writer even than him. Growing up with audiobooks and his father's stories, he had years to learn all of his father's techniques. The Kings are American writers, and have made a successful living being authors. Joe Hill's first published work is a series of short stories called 20th century ghosts. He has used many different fairytale "villains" as characters for his books. You would think of characters like dracula are not as scary anymore because of new movies and stories where they are made of flowers and sparkles. When you read the original they are nowhere near that, and Joe is trying to bring out the scare factor in his stories, but while trying to make it good as well. He wants his failures to be private, and thinks that is how it should be. This is another reason for the use of a pen name to hide who he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Advantages Of Granger Caausity Test 3. Methods and data Granger causality test (Granger 1969) has been generally used to find the causality relationship between variables. This test told that if past values of a variable (y) significantly contribute to forecast the future value of another variable (x) then y is said to Granger cause x. Conversely, if past values of x statistically improve the prediction of y, then we can conclude that x Granger causes y (ibid). This paper also uses the tool of the Granger causality test to examine the causality relationship between SDP and EC. This paper used (Oxley and Greasley1998), a three–stage procedure to test the direction of causality which is also used by (Ghosh, S., 2002). Further implies that there is long run relationship between SDP and EC in Assam. So, we have used Granger causality tests to examine the direction of linkage among the variables. But for a VAR system with co–integrated variables the Granger causality test must be conducted in a vector error correction model (VECM) setting (Greene 2008). However, the absence of residual serial correlation, absence of heteroskedasticity of the individual equations has also confirmed the correct order of VECM selection. This quote explains how Harvey cares about Wendell and didn't want to harm him at first but when Jive pushed off the roof and into the night sky he was brave. He also has a mischievous side underneath all the sweet, caring Harvey. Harvey's joy got the best of him and turned into bravery. Wendell is a coward compared to his best friend Harvey. Wendell truly shows his cowardness when Harvey transforms himself into a vampire. Wendell cries for mercy and eventually gets his way. "Don't kill me! Please, please, I beg you–don't kill me" (46)! This quote truly proves that Wendell is a coward. It also proves he doesn't have the investigation side to this scene. Harvey knows when something is wrong or something isn't right. And this shows that Wendell does not have what it takes to be as brave as Harvey. This exemplifies that Wendell is not the hero but the hero's sidekick who later on, helps Harvey a lot. This is the most important part of Harvey and Wendell's friendship. They care about each other. Harvey is kind about Wendell's weaknesses. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

During the fight Cabrillo, the ship's captain, watches Pitt down on deck, "From his vantage point on the bridge wing, Cabrillo stood rooted in awe of the unbelievable sight of Pitt contemptuously brushing aside the air filled with the maddening clatter of the Chengdo's storm of thirty–seven–millimeter shells that scythed across The Oregon's cargo deck" (215). This demonstrates the astonishing bravery and lack of fear of death Pitt has. He continually amazes those around him with his bravery and determination. Earlier in the book at Orion Lake, Pitt sneaks into Qin Shang's human prison, there he finds two guards," accustomed to cowering and frightened captives, the two Chinese guards were petrified with shock at being attacked by a reckless, crazy man in a rubber suit whose body was considerably larger than either of theirs" (83). I am now interned at a Tokyo prisoner of war camp and I'm being treated as well as can be expected under wartime conditions." As a viewer we can see the look of pure disgust and longing upon Louie's face. It was evident that he wasn't eager to read what was prepared for him as it depicted a false perception of what his wartime conditions were truly like. The fact that he had to make it seem like he was well when in fact he was anything but. I am now able to understand that what those in society often herd about their captured soldiers was quite often incorrect. The enemy wanted to portray an image that hid the true conditions and circumstances the American soldiers were subject to. I not only found this film inspiring as it showed the resilience American soldiers had whilst confined in the prisoner of war camps but also found it interesting as it showed the truths of war so vividly in way that could never be achieved through the use of written words. As a result of this film I am able to see how much we owe these men for our freedom, we were never truly able to appreciate the sacrifice made by those men and women until viewing this incredible film. Wilfred Owen focused his poetry on the particulars of war and the men involved: dirt, muddle, boredom etc, Owen often wrote about the horror of war and the dignity of men. He deeply felt a sense of the appalling wastefulness of war, casualties and the human spirit. The similarities between these two poets are they both tried to record realistic horrors of the war; to have it stopped. They were both angry at the war's brutality, they were also showed very compassionate studies of the circumstances of fighting men. The connection I made between these 2 texts is that they both experienced death, these texts are Memorial Tablet by Siegfried Sassoon and Dulce et Decorum Est by Wilfred Owen. The overall tone of the poem capitalizes on the his idea of war and how we should be acting towards those who have given up themselves to hopefully makes their country better. Wilfred Owen's Dulce et Decorum Est also created a specific tone in his poem as well. His poem takes on a completely different tone though. In his version of a war piece, Owen is showing us how war is bad and how much he feels that it is wrong, and how we won't like the conclusion that results from them. This war poem, about the First World War, has a more negative look on the actions of war. An example of this tone can be seen in the first stanza. According to the Bloom's Literary Reference Online, "The first stanza presents a scene saturated with misery." (Dulce et Decorum Est) Throughout the entire piece Owen gives us the tone of misery, awful challenges, and death – all negative feelings. We can see in the last couple of lines of the poem how Owen really felt about war, "The old Lie, Dulce et Decorum est / Pro patria mori." By using incredibly detailed imagery and effective language to show just what happened during war time and making readers experience feelings such as pity, sorrow, and remorse. Owen describes the many hardships that the soldiers went through even so far as describing a deadly gas attack that claimed one of the soldiers and had burned into his mind the scaring imagery of someone he knew choking to death because of the deadly mist that was all around them. Owens poem is very genuine since he had participated in the bloody savagery that was World War 1. The poem begins with a detailed description of the lifestyle and poor conditions that the soldiers had to endure on a day to day basis which led them to age incredibly quickly. "Bent double, like old beggars under sacks, Knock–kneed, coughing like hags, we cursed through sludge" This quote suggest that the soldiers were like homeless people, dirty and sick. This comes as a surprise because many people believe that the appearance of soldiers are to be muscular and alethic, not scrawny and weak but their appearances changed drastically because the conditions they were living in were beyond imagination (Owen, p.723). The spiritual being created and enriched by England is returned gratefully. Brooke doesn't mention anything about the horrors of war. Even death is not presented as something repulsive or of a loss but instead as a repayment to his country. He feels indebted to England and is completely happy to settle his debt. Analysis of the Film "Inside Man" Essay Patrick Carruthers Neupert – Film Studies The True "Inside Man" "Inside Man" was released in 2006 and would later become the highest grossing film for the director Spike Lee. The film is a crime–drama, located primarily in a bank in New York City run by multi billionaire Arthur Case. Although the film is a thriller and contains bits of action and suspense, the movie focuses heavily on the difference between good and evil. The movie begins with a shot in medias res of Clive Owen's character Dalton Russell explaining the difference between being stuck in a tiny cell and being in prison while he moves around a small room ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As the film unfolds, the audience learns that although there were financial morals fueling the master plan, there was also the desire to bring justice upon a man that had betrayed and cheated his way to the top, thus giving the audience a sense of righteousness in what Russell was doing. Russell had become not only the man literally inside the bank, but inside the lies of Case with the means to expose them. This alignment serves to form a sort of paradoxical allegiance in which although the audience understands he is the leader of a criminal group, he is also uncovering the secrets of an evil man and thus somewhat proving his innocence. This same allegiance causes the audience to enjoy the conclusion, both out of respect for the intelligence of the plan and because of his ability to escape with the documents and potentially to uncover the awful past of Arthur Case. Although Ms. White's thoughts are never truly expressed in the film, she plays a huge role in the formation of the plot. Recognition of Ms. White comes easily for the fact that she is a woman, and she is of power. An important aspect of her appearance is her clothing, being that in every shot she is shown wearing formal clothing and more importantly; heels. The clothing and heels serve to portray her as an ... Irony of War Exposed in Dulce et Decorum, Regeneration, and Quiet on the Western Front Many of the young officers who fought in the Great War enlisted in the army with glowing enthusiasm, believing that war was played in fancy uniforms with shiny swords. They considered war as a noble task, an exuberant journey filled with honor and glory. Yet, after a short period on the front, they discovered that they had been disillusioned by the war: fighting earned them nothing but hopelessness, death and terror. They had lost their lives to the lost cause of war, which also killed their innocence and youth. They were no longer boys but callous men. He uses "An ecstasy of fumbling" (9) to describe the men grasping for their gas masks during the attack. The fact that "ecstasy" is used with "fumbling" is surprising and disturbing but suggests the difference between the society's beliefs about the war and the actuality of it. Images such as "flound'ring like a man in fire or lime..." (12), "He plunges at me, guttering, choking, drowning." (16), "His hanging face, like a devil's sick of sin" (20), "Come gargling from the froth–corrupted lungs" (22) hurls the pain of war and death into the readers face. By the end of the third and last stanza, the irony of the title has completely unfolded: My friend, you would not tell with such high zest To children ardent for some desperate glory, The old lie: Dulce et decorum est Pro patria mori. (25–29) Through vivid imagery and compelling metaphors, Owen wants people to stop lying about how "sweet" and "fitting" it is "to die for one's country". Pat Barker's 1991 novel, Regeneration, represents her fictional–historical account of Rivers' treatment of the war poet Siegfried Sassoon. The novel's anti–war message is very clear and well argued from Barker's point of view because by emphasizing on war and madness she shows us how the minds of her characters were damaged by the war. The novel begins with Sassoon's letter of resignation: " I am a soldier,

He also shows the courage of the soldiers by writing, "Men marched asleep". Many had lost their boots, but limped on, blood–shod". The first stanza has eight lines and follows the rhyming scheme of A, B, A, B through out the poem. Owen uses this stanza as a tool to build–up the story and is able to set the scene for the reader. Owen uses many similes in this poem and writes, "Bent double, like old beggars under sacks," and "Knock–kneed, coughing like hags, we cursed through sludge". Owen uses a number of verbs as adjectives such as "haunting flares" and "dropping flares…" The second Stanza is six lines and it also has the rhyming scheme A, B, A, B, C, D. Throughout the stanza Owen uses graphic detail to emphasise the pain of the soldiers, which creates for the reader a violent image, which is calmed down by the last line, "Of gas– shells dropping softly behind." The next line is, "Gas! Gas! Quick, boys!" Again this changes the mood, from peaceful to violent. The reader then becomes prepared for some action in the poem. This is a swift build up of description into the untimely demise of one of the soldiers. There are a lot of one word sentences and exclamation marks to show the panic and horror of the soldiers. Well in the book Havana Storm by Clive Cussler, Henry is Dirk's best friend. After Henry betrayed Dirk they were fighting against to get the special treasure and they are using the Rebels and the N.U.M.A against each other. In this I will be predicting on what Henry will do. Questioning on what Dirk will think and evaluate the situation between Henry and Dirk. In the beginning there was a boat the blew up and with Dirk on the ship, so I believe that Henry had something to do with the explosion. A possibility could be that Henry was never on Dirks side in the first place. For example he could have just used Dirk to get the chest. I also predict that Henry will try to blow up another ship that he thinks Dirk is on, but it is just a decoy by Dirk so Henry will think he is in the clear and is able to go after the treasure, although in reality Dirk is going to be waiting to capture Henry. I think Dirk has precisely placed the chest on an island of the bahamas, near the rebels base. So as Henry tries to go out to the island to get the chest Dirk and Numa will be waiting for him. Another prediction that I have is that Numa is actually a made up organization by Henry, because Henry said "You don't know Numa,I Know Numa" (C. Cussler, 367).
