As a child I really enjoyed reading books, this may been because my mother and father would try to
read to me each night before bed. One of my favorite bedtime stories would be Aesop 's fable
particularly the Tortoise and the Hare. Although the Hare was talented and had all the fittings to be a
champion, despite that his arrogance made him lose the race when he decided to sleep during the
race. To this day I have personally resonated with the idea of the underdog overcoming any
obstacles, and that is what the tortoise signifies. The tortoise understood that although he was not in
the best position to win the race instead of giving up and not competing he took his neck out of
shell, tried his best, and persevered which caused him the victory.
I truly resonate with the Tortoise in this fable because of their idealistic, dedicated, and hardworking
personality. Another reason would be the tortoise 's ability to be able to retreat into their shell when
ever they pleased. Depending on the situation and how uncomfortable I am I can pull into my shell
for protection and comfort. In addition tortoises are difficult to get to know because of their shell
and they come off as private, reserved, and self conscious. Even though I believe that all people are

Waknuk is the hometown of David, Petra and Rosalind; the three had to flee their home by night
when they got news of Sally and Katherine being captured. David and Petra left home and travelled
down a path to the riverbank, where they met up with Rosalind. For their travel they utilized two
great horses owned by Rosalind's father to go on their journey for safety. David, Petra and Rosalind

Despite an increase in the amount of mediums used to communicate with other people, humans have
lost the ability to adequately socialize in an effective manner. In Sherry Turkle's Alone Together, the

2. I have a retail job, which requires me to put on a performance for the audience also known as the
customers. Goffman states that life is like a theater, which has different regions in which we must
act in order for our performance to be deemed as successful by the audience (Goffman, 1959). A
performance is defined as the act that one puts on for the audience, which has some influence on the
actor (Goffman, 1959). Regarding my retail job I must put on an act of helpfulness and caring in the
product that I am selling, I must change my approach according to each person. If I approach a
customer and ask if they need assistance and they state they do not, then I must respect their
decision. On the other hand if I have a person that need my assistance I must make myself available
to this customer; therefor my attentiveness changes depending on costumers and their needs. For my

David Hume's Philosophy
One would think that the human thought and ideas are some things that have no boundaries
containing them, and no limitations stopping them. David Hume's philosophy has essentially argued
the exact opposite of what most humans believe about their own thoughts and ideas. Hume makes a
distinction between impressions and ideas, where impressions are lively and vivid, while ideas are
from memory making them less lively and vivid. David Hume's argument is that we have no innate
ideas rather our ideas come from us reflecting upon our impressions, while Hume does bring up one
objection I think that his objection can be argued against, thus making Hume's argument more
plausible. Hume characterizes impressions as our lively perceptions, he says that these perceptions
are what we feel, see, hear, taste, smell or even emotions like love, and hate. Our ideas are only our
reflection on these impressions, meaning they are less lively and vivid. "A man in a fit of anger, is
actuated in a very different manner from one who only thinks of that emotion."(p.10) This follows
Hume's argument because while the man who is in the fit of anger is feeling that emotion at that
point, the person looking on can only compare the feeling of anger that the other person is feeling to
a time that they felt anger. The person looking on is only reflecting on the feeling of anger that they
have felt before, they are not actually feeling or experiencing any anger like the other person. Hume

Over a period of ten days, Alan Merriam takes his readers on a journey through the Basongye Bala
tribe on their quest to create the perfect drum. Drum creation and music in general is an important
element to the Basongye culture, this can be "witnessed" through this study by how detailed and
extensive the process for drum making actually is, the Basongye people ensure every groove and
nook is in its correct place. Additionally, the author reminds his readers that even though the purpose
of this article is to show how the Basongye Bala folks create drums, that it is not the only
investigation that will occur. Any ethnographic investigation can lead to almost anything else; one
study can inevitably build upon itself (Merriam 74). This ethnographic study was done through
observations of the Bala people. As mentioned previously, the purpose of this study is to illustrate
drum creation within the Basongye Bala tribe of Lupupa Ngye; it is an ethnographic, as well as, an
ethnomusical study. The author clarifies the disparity between Basongye people, how there are
actually three groups of the same people. This happened because the original Basongye people of
the Democratic Republic of the Congo were temporarily dispersed by the Arabian Slave Wars then

Problem Deconstruction. Deconstructed Listening and Questions. Deconstructed listening and
questions are based on the philosophical works of Jacques Derrid, narrative therapists use this
technique to help their clients track how dominate discourses are affecting them and enable them to
choose which discourses they will allow to affect their lives (Gehart, 2014). "In deconstructive
listening, the therapist listens for "gaps" in the client's understanding and ask them to fill in the
details or has them explain the ambiguities in their stories"(Gehart, 2014, p. 408). Deconstructive
questions help the client breakdown the story to see how it was constructed in the first place and to
help identify which discourse is influencing them (Gehart, 2014).
Scaffolding Conversations. Vygotsky's zone of proximal development concept is the basis of this
intervention. This concept is based on Vygotsky's theory that learning is relational so in order for
children to learn, they need to be able to interact with the new material. This concept can also apply

Community life and civic engagement are a huge responsibility of citizens, although it is not
required by citizens, it is an important aspect of a proper citizen. Residents of a community have the
constant responsibility of making the society around them reflect an advance in the eminence of
lives in the community. The simple duty of any citizen is to give to the common good. Civic
responsibilities are achieved by volunteering and choice. Volunteering, involving in positive
organizations and aids, or tutoring people in certain subjects, are all ways that people can subsidize
to the good of the community. Small deeds that seem to prosper someone in some way or the other
is still a way of helping. To learn something from the assistance that one does to another, the deed

Types Of Conflict Spiral And Avoidance Spiral
Since conflict is made up of individuals with their own perceptions it only makes sense that there lie
different paths that conflict can take. Some of the different paths that are destructive in nature are
the "escalatory spiral" (Hocker & Wilmot 29) and "avoidance spiral" (Hocker & Wilmot 32). These
spirals are made up of not only speech but physical actions that mean to damage another or seek to
lessen the relationship between themselves. It is important to recognize what type of conflict spiral
is happening so you may view the situation clearly and see what the next step is to possibly fix this
problem before it escalates past the point of repair. Recognizing that you are in an escalatory spiral
is simple because it is categorized as a state where both parties involved take action to "get even"
(qtd. in Hocker & Wilmot 31) with the other person(s) involved. An escalatory spiral is a destructive

(Hocker & Wilmot 30). The interaction between those in conflict during an escalatory spiral

Hunters in the Snow I decided to do my essay on the Hunters in the Snow by Tobias Wolff. The
reason I chose this story is because winter is my favorite time of the year; I absolutely love snow.
The title of this story itself caught my attention. In this paper I will be talking about how the
characters interact with each other and how the environment or the setting effects the characters.
While talking about the setting, I will also talk about the symbols and the themes. I think the theme
of this story is about deception, and it's about how people can put you down and think nothing of it,
but when someone is in the other person's shoes they finally see what they have done to that person.
There are three main characters in this story, and they are Tub, Frank, and Kenny. They are the
"hunters in the snow". They all play a role in the theme of deception. The setting of this story is in
the winter. I found many symbols in the setting itself and the characters. The protagonist in this
story is Tub while the antagonist is Kenny. Frank is there to support the person who is in control or
the leader in the situations they may face. One of the first symbols I found in the story interesting
was the snow. While the snow may be pretty, it is often unforgiving and also an obstacle for the

It's a high pass and should enable you to speed up the game. This pass requires lots of power to
make it travel faster; if it's slow and loopy a defender could intercept it. For me the power comes

from behind the ball. I spread my fingers around the ball, bend my arms and try to keep my elbows
close to my body. I then lift the ball above my right shoulder (as I'm right–handed) and let it drop
back slightly. This gives me extra power when I go to release the ball. To make it go through the air
faster I put one foot forward, this also helps me to lean into the pass. I think when you throw a
shoulder pass it's best to aim for your team–mates head and chest (this will make it easier for them
to catch the ball). In my opinion to master a shoulder pass you have to follow the directions above
and finally when you release the ball I think you should follow through the pass (basically stretching
out your arms and fingertips after releasing the ball.

The first text that I analyzed, which is Nikki's portfolio, I decided that the audience could be anyone
that either enjoys photography or maybe her future employers. Her purpose was to create an "eye" to

I don't understand why people decided not to take a second to see another person's point of view and
try to understand where they're coming from. Too much negativity is being spread throughout the
nation and I think it's time to change that. I believe in order to stop such negativity, we first must
take and moment and reflect on what we believe in and why. Then we should place ourselves in the
opposite opinion's shoes and try to understand what makes them feel that way. Next, we can start to

rampage claiming that they were seeking justice? The main character claims to seek justice when all
they are doing is trying to claim revenge. Revenge and justice are two words of completely different
meanings and yet are constantly confused for each other. A common question that is asked by people
these days is "what is the difference between justice and revenge"? There are many aspects besides
the definition of the words that show how different they are, however the strongest answers come
from inside a person. In order to find an answer to this question we must look at how each of these
words affect people who could be involved. When it comes to people that are looking to gain justice

When you talk to or about your opponent, what might you be tempted to say that would be harmful
or worthless?
People tend to pull out the worst with those that are trying to assist them with situations in their
lives. When that happens, one may get the notion to say something that is harmful or out of order
that could hurt their feelings. One such incident was when I was talking with my step dad about his
brother. He stated that his brother is stubborn and does not want to take instruction very well. My
dad stated that he is tempted to tell him that he is, "hard headed," when it comes to instructions, to

I always try to imagine a situation from different perspectives. When observing someone's actions, I
try to understand the overall situation until I can say to myself "I see where they're coming from." In
order to do that you need to have some background information on that person. In most cases this
involves making some intuitive assumptions, but you must be careful, as wrong assumptions can
make a situation worse. With some background information and careful assumptions you can try to
put yourself in their shoes as the saying goes, and then judge people by their actions. I'm not saying
this would be a functional design for a court of law, but this is how I deal with small social
problems.
For the most part I believe that this is an effective method for dealing with small conflicts because
usually I can understand a person's motives, and that is a step towards finding a solution. With small
conflicts it's usually a matter of conflicting personalities. These problems tend to be harder to solve
than similar problems generated from conflicting interests, as people with conflicting personalities
will do things just in spite of the other person. Such actions tend to create a perpetual problem.
I like my ability to see the other side of a situation, but only for small, insignificant problems. When
I look at larger social issues, a sense of hopeless pessimism spreads through me.

Everyone at one time or another has felt the clock crunch. The minutes tick away as the deadline
looms. A sense of panic begins to surround you as you realize time is running out. How can that be?

Taking a Look at Vulnerability
People say that being vulnerable is bad and that if you are vulnerable that means that you are weak
or just stupid. The idea of being vulnerable scares people so much that they try to avoid it at all costs
even the loss of a relationship. I see it all the time with my friends, they are having issues with
someone but they don't want to tell them how they feel because they are afraid of how it will make
them look or how the other person will react. Its sad though because both sides have this issue so

also the spiritually. When a person is mentally and/or physically as a child, the person is not able to
connect to God. They are not able to understand what God is trying to communicate, and God is

This was a new experience for all of us and an important one as the session would be evaluated as
part of the course. I was feeling anxious about the Team Teach and no doubt so were the other
members of the group. I am still unsure as what really set this outburst off but have accepted more
why it might have happened.
Conclusion
I considered the impact this might have on the success of the team exercise and came to the
conclusion that I had to speak with the other person at our next meeting. I didn't want answers to
why she had behaved in the way she did but neither did I want this episode to be destructive to the

start again.
Future Action
I would like to think that this would never happen again! I am pleased with myself in not reverting
to my usual type in rushing in to 'bite back'. This upon reflection would have been the worst thing to
do as it would undoubtedly escalate the situation. And this is what I have learnt from this
