3. Engagement-Related Goals
• Demonstrate the value of our
collections to modern-day research
• Facilitate engagements with our
collections that:
– Allow our audiences to share their expertise
related to our collections
– Provide ways for our audiences to enhance our
collections
4. Tools to Facilitate Engagement
• The Institute of Museum and Library
Services-funded Mining Biodiversity Project
aims to transform BHL into a next-
generation social digital library to facilitate
the study and discussion of biodiversity
literature.
• 2 tools added to support this objective:
7. Looking Forward
• Continue to monitor to find more use
cases
• Continue to monitor to inform outreach
strategies and collections development
• See if there’s a way to use this data to
demonstrate to existing and potential
partners the impact of having their
content in BHL
12. Looking Forward
• Currently– sharing finds on social
media
• In the future:
– How can we use this information to directly
improve our library?
• add scientific names; correct scientific names; map
synonym relationships; ingest crowdsourced
transcriptions directly into BHL.
