The International Classification of Diseases, 10th Revision (ICD-10) is a medical coding system used by healthcare providers to classify and report diagnoses and procedures. The ICD-10 codes are updated regularly to reflect changes in medical technology, procedures, and diagnostic criteria. The 2023 ICD-10 coding updates for home health and hospice are expected to bring several changes that will affect the way these services are coded and billed. One of the major updates for home health in 2023 is the addition of new codes for telehealth services. Another significant update for home health in 2023 is the addition of new codes for virtual therapy services. The new codes will allow home health providers to bill for virtual therapy services, such as occupational and physical therapy, in the same way as in-person therapy. For hospice, in 2023, ICD-10 codes will be added to reflect the new technologies and treatments that have been developed for end-of-life care. The new codes will allow hospice providers to bill for these new technologies and treatments, such as palliative care and symptom management.
