 Learn how to create a Google Hangout
 Learn the features of the Hangout platform
 Identify Hangouts as a tool for teaching
 Learn about Hangouts On Air (HOA)

7. What is it?
 It is essentially a group live video chat done
right…can have up to 10 participants (possible
15 on Google Apps)
 Google+ platform and Hangouts were launched
June 28, 2011
 Cost: $585 million, 500 employees to build
 Communication tool to collaborate with people

8. What can Hangouts do?
 Messaging (chat room IM)
 Video Calls (1 person or 10…up to 15 with G+ Apps)
 Hangouts On Air ( “Live Show”on YouTube or other
site like Facebook, Edmodo that is also recorded for
later viewing)

9. How can I use it?
 Meetings with colleagues or parents
 Live video lectures
 Flipped Classroom lecture w/ HOA
 Virtual office hours
 Demonstrate software
 Collaborate on a Google document
 Watch a YouTube video and discuss
 Video announcement and share

 Age requirements for Google+ = 13 up
 Hangouts On Air participants = 18 up
Anyone can watch a HOA broadcast
 All you need is a computer with
sound, web cam, and the Internet
Hangout also on iPad, iPhone or Android
