Andy Johnson Missions Summary
We know several people who have been on short–term mission trips. Perhaps you've even been on
one yourself and proclaimed to others that you gained more from that trip than the people you went
to serve. Maybe you're a full–time missionary living in another nation (at least for the majority of
the year). Most likely, you're an average church member who knows the Great Commission but
doesn't feel called to long–term overseas ministry. Regardless of where you stand, "Missions" by
Andy Johnson is an excellent introduction to missions. Johnson provides readers with ways to be
mission–minded, live missional lifestyles, and serve those who are on mission at home and abroad.
Starting with a biblical foundation of missions, readers are called to make

The Mission Movie Essay
This film "The Mission" depicts what happened during the campaign of Jesuit missionaries to
missionaries in the Spanish occupied country to mission Christianity to Aboriginal people. It is
Rodrigo Mendoza who appeared after the scene of the martyrdom of Julian. As a former mercenary
and slave, he plays a swordsmanship match with his half–brother who has an affair with his lover.
Rodrigo's brother first applied for a duel, but he tried to reconcile with Rodrigo. However, his
dueling attitude began to duel with traditional dueling practices in which his face was hit with angry
or gloves, and his half–brother died as a result. Rodrigo, who had felt guilty awaiting death for
nearly half a year after the incident, became influenced by Father Gabriel and decided to join his
mission. Because Rodrigo had previously hunted the Guaraní and sold them as slaves, he nailed all
his armor, weapons, and swords that he had used in the sense of repenting his sins, and made
chunks. He takes it around and visits the Guaraní with priest Fielding and Gabriel. The Guaraní,
who are familiar with Rodrigo there, are excited at first and put their swords on Rodrigo's neck, but
they forgive Rodrigo and cut off the rope with a knife and throw the armor and weapon sphere in the
net into the river. So, Rodrigo was crying and rejoicing, and Gabriel played a beautiful oboe melody.

The mission of Father Gabriel was to make the Guaraní villages a new sanctuary and a place of
education. Rodrigo and Gabriel set up a new town and a cathedral. Father Gabriel gave the Bible to
Rodrigo who wanted to help his mission, and Rodrigo learned the Bible and became deeply
religious. In the play, Rodrigo's Bible passages are Corinthians 1 love clause, and he then formally

I am going to compare Patagonia Outdoor Clothing's and Columbia Sportswear's mission
statements. Both of these companies' focus provides clothing for the outdoorsman. A mission
statement is an important message from the company to all of their stakeholders. (King D. C., 2012)
Patagonia Outdoor Clothing's mission statement is to build the best product, cause no unnecessary
harm, use business to inspire and implement solutions to the environmental crisis. Columbia
Sportswear's mission statement is to design and deliver authentic, outdoor, high–value products for
active consumers of all ages. Both of these mission statements are different but do have ... Show

This is clearly stated in both of their mission statements, the best product and high–value product.
Aside from that, I do not feel that both companies are heading in the same direction. Patagonia
Outdoor Clothing clearly positions itself to consider what effects on the environment they will have
in the future. This is telling both the employees and stakeholders not only are they proving the best
product, they care about the future of the planet and to ensure it will still be here for our family and
friends. Columbia Sportswear does not mention or even elude caring about the environment in their
mission statement.
A company's social responsibility is now a focus not only by investors but to consumers as well.
Social responsibility is for organizations to behave ethically and show consideration regarding
social, cultural, economic and environmental issues. (What is Social Responsibility? Why is it
Important, 2008) Patagonia Outdoor Clothing takes this head on. When the company opened its first
store in Boston, Massachusetts all of the employees were experiencing headaches. Upon a thorough
investigation, it was discovered that their inventory of cotton based clothing in the basement was
generating toxic fumes. They used conventional cotton, which is the use of insecticides and other
chemicals to grow the cotton. This incidence led Patagonia Outdoor Clothing switch to the use of
only organic

The Short Term Mission Trips
Think about the poverty and problems that all countries around the world are facing today and every
day. As Americans we have an urge to go into these countries to help as much as possible because of
that we have begun a revolution. Americans began going on mission trips around the 1960s but did
not really pick up until the 1990s. The trend grew after multiple natural disasters, Americans saw
and need and went, since then short term mission trips show no sign stopping anytime soon. As the
popularity of leaving our comfort zones, many people have found issues with the way the trips are
led to the extent of questioning whether or not these trips are really worth the amount of money and
time that they consume. Through periodicals, interviews, narratives, and articles, I will show the
issues and improvements that could be made to the living situations, attitude of the Americans, and
relationships that are acquired during the short term mission trips.
In October of 1998, Hurricane Mitch slammed onto the coasts of multiple South American
countries. Countless people lost their homes, over eleven thousand people lost their lives, and the
hurricane left five billion dollars' worth of damage in its wake ("Hurricane Mitch"). This event
caused a new wave of events also of short term mission trips. Americans seeing the cities torn to
shreds decided to act. For a couple of weeks at a time, different groups would go clean up, rebuild,
and show love to the people of these devastated

The Mission Movie Analysis
The movie The Mission brought to light many of the issues that the developing world has faced in
the past and continues to face today. The indigenous people of Paraguay and Southern Brazil, the
Guarani, faced terrifying encounters with the powerful European colonizers during the period of
European colonialism. Many innocent people on both sides of the battle lost their lives. The Jesuits
were a Christian missionary group that brought the Good News of Jesus Christ, all the while helping
to defend the indigenous people by respecting their culture and human dignity, also referred to as
"inculturation". The Jesuit presence paved the way for later ideas such as liberation theology and the
post–colonial theory. The Commonweal article, "What We Can and Cannot Fix: Rewatching The
Mission prompts viewers to reassess the film and notice other possible issues that were related to the
Jesuit's presence.
The Jesuits had a huge presence during the brutal attacks that occurred between the European
colonists and the Guarani. The Jesuits always sided with the indigenous people and worked to
protect their safety and human dignity. However, the main goal of the missionary enterprise as stated
by Fr. Gabriel, the leader of the Jesuits, was "to make Christians out of these people." At first, this
statement appears to be a genuine act of kindness attempting o present the Jesuit Christian faith to
the Guarani to show them the love and hope that their God could provide to them. However, the

Mission, Vision, and Values

Mission, Vision, and Values An organization's vision is based on what it feels is possible to achieve,
all about the potential it possesses. The organization's mission is the process it employs to make that
vision a reality. An organization's values are the fundamental principles that are established by the
stakeholders in an effort to guide the organization. An organization's core values must match up with
the mission and its vision to contribute to the overall success of the organization. The core values
are what management practices and expect the employees to practice as well in order to fulfill the
company mission and achieve its vision. This paper will present ... Show more content on

It provides direction to let the employees and stakeholders know "where the company is going".
When forming a vision, the leadership must be realistic about their market, competition, economic
climate, and regulatory conditions and properly ascertain and espouse the values of management,
employees, and stakeholders (Schoemaker, 1992). A company's mission is its statement that
communicates the purpose of the organization. It gives the who, what, and why of the business. This
successful completion of the strategic planning and execution process allows for the public and the
organization's members to see that the vision was established to be reality and not simply rhetoric,
as is the case with many organizations that suffers from confrontations between management and a
lack of commitment to the organization's vision and values (Fiegener, Brown, Prince & File,1996).
The three organizations listed all took steps towards strategic planning and execution in the
formation of their vision, mission, and values statements. Creating The Future was by far the poorest
example of strategic planning and execution. Their mission, vision and values are too ambiguous to
properly inform or inspire its members or supporters. On the other end of the spectrum, Oxfam and

Vision and Mission
2.1 Vision and Mission
Vision and mission statements summarize strategy of a company in a form that can be communicate
and understand easily by management and stockholder. A vision statement should not be confused
with mission statement as both statements taking part in two distinctive aspects.
As indicated in the strategic management model, vision and mission are indispensable. A vision
statement describes as a blueprint of what an organization sees itself to be in the future. Therefore, a
vision statement must able to answer the question, "What do we want to become?" because main
function of vision statement is to communicate to the stakeholder where the organization desires and
aspires to be. Generally an effective vision statement ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Products or services
Products or services are the main business activity of a firm. Products and services can be tangible
or intangible in form; offering for sale to the market in order to satisfy a need, want or demand. As
such, the firm must clearly describes the types of products it offered or ranges of services it rendered
to its customers. 3. Markets
Market is a place where buyers and sellers transact goods and services for a monetary value. The
organization has to define its place of business and operations geographically, so that customers
know how to get access to the organization. 4. Technology
The advancement of technology has altered the way businesses are conducted in the world today.
Therefore, the organization has to address the question of whether the firm is using cutting–edge
technology, environmental friendly technology or obsolete technology in conducting its business. 5.
Concern for survival, growth and profitability
It is undeniable that the primary corporate driver is profit. As such, the firm must exhibit a
commitment towards achieving sound and healthy financial position, ensuring potential ability for
future growthand maintaining the sustainability of a business environment. 6. Philosophy
Theorganization also has to lay down the core values, beliefs, ethical priorities and fundamental
principles thatshape the underlying foundation and culture of an organization. This element sends a

Christian Mission Book Review Essay
Christian Mission Book Review Part two begins with David Livingstone, a Scottish missionary, and
a professional doctor. He was very interested in exploration and his main goal was to stop
Portuguese and Arab slave trade, he believed in human self–worth. He got his men and his supplies
and started his voyage to Africa to map Africa, he was successful at mapping most of Zambezi.
Livingstone was accused of not being a "real" missionary and he was too political but he always
made sure he was working with God in mind. Livingstone died at the age of 60 in 1873 defending
the African's freedom. His people cut out his heart and buried it, the rest of his body was mummified
and taken to Westminster Abbey to be buried, as he wished. A statue was built in his honor with the
base reading, "Missionary, Explorer, Liberator". Livingstone is one example of how much political
and economic power a Christian missionary can have. He also encouraged the work of the Jesuits in
China. The western power and missionaries have created bad names for the social/cultural changes
or for being connected with colonialism, imperialism, westernity, and modernity mostly by the
missionaries. Some say that Christianity has challenged or strengthened the local power. "Scientific
racism" first came up in the 1850s Joseph–Arthur de Gobineu's book called Essi sur l'inegalite des
races humanines. He believed that the African and Asian people could be a part of the Christian
religion or culture because

Therefore, the organization needs to place a focus on the long–term desires that they may never
achieve. More or less, keep the brass ring just out of reach in order to continue to strive for the next
level while inspiring the team that is vested. The Honeywell FM&T vision statement does place
some focus on a few of the elements of an effective vision. These elements are outlined in the
lecture as future oriented, compelling, bold, aspiring, inspiring, believable, and achievable (Lecture).
The elements that are easy to notice are the onese the focus on being compelling, bold, and aspiring.
The message does a great job by captivating individuals with words like, "world's most trusted
source" and "providing exceptional solutions". When we look at inspiring, believable and
achievable, the organization can more or less hang its hat on the same elements with an additional
focus on "talented employees". A vision statement is designed to paint a picture and sort of play on
the emotions of those involved. Therefore, I think that there are aspects of the Honeywell vision that
do exactly that. However, the element that appears to be lacking is a focus on future oriented. The
vision statement seems to focus solely on where they are now and leaves no room for growth.
Honeywell has done a great job of showing confidence in their abilities, just not the next

The Mission Movie Essay
The movie "The Mission" takes place during the Jesuit Reduction, which was a program that set up
Jesuit missionaries to teach Christianity to the natives. It tells a story of Father Gabriel ,a Spanish
Jesuit priest, who goes on to a quest to the South America Jungle to convert the community of
Guarani Indians to Christians. The film starts off by Father Gabriel making a journey to the Guarani
community. Once, he reaches the tribe they prepare to kill him but spare his life because he plays an
beautiful solo on his oboe. After a while Father Gabriel gains their trust and is accepted into their
tribe. On the other hand, Rodrigo Mendoza, a mercenary and slaver, catches his younger half–

Jesuit under Father Gabriel and Fielding. The Jesuit mission was safe under the Spanish law but the
1750 Treaty of Madrid, reassign the land in South America to the Portuguese. Since, the portuguese
law allows slavery, they wanted to enslave the Guarani. The Jesuits mission was upset and fought

The Mission And Mission Of The Church's Global Outreach
Mission refers to an individual or group of people being sent out to complete a specific task or
purpose, such as ministering to those who lack the knowledge of Christ. Culbertson and Gailey
define missions as the "attempt to fulfill God 's call to make disciples of all people" (Culbertson
224). In Discovering Missions, Culbertson and Gailey speak on the countless aspects of missions
and the importance of global mission. The term mission means "sending out" or "assigned task"
(Culbertson 9). Missiology is a reflection upon the practice of Christian mission (Culbertson 9). The
difference between mission and missions is that mission is simply a "response to God's calling" and
the term missions are referring to "specific ways and organizational structures in which the Church's
global outreach is carried out" (Culbertson 11). The ultimate mission is discipleship. A strong
foundation is required to accept such a calling and to be effective in it.
"If God's people today want to be covenant partakers, they must view global mission as something
more than optional or tangential" (Culbertson 35). Not everyone is called to do global mission. In
other words, not everyone has the foundation required to answer to such a calling. In accepting a
call to missionary work, one must put themselves aside for the sake of others. The ultimate mission
is discipleship. The church is to reach people and win souls. Through winning souls, the believers
are to be built up and equipped for the work of

It Is Just A Business With A Mission
It is just a business with a mission
In the hospitality industry, the purpose of the company's mission statement is clear, as the day when
a new employee is hired, but sometimes it can be lost in translation as time passes on. It is a
standard practice in this industry when companies' hires a food service worker their new employers
go over the rules, regulations, along with reviewing the company's handbook. Within that handbook,
there is a paragraph or two that explains the mission statement. Some companies mission statements
are rather long and tedious while others are short and sweet. However, the general concept of the
mission statements is to provide great dining, atmosphere, and service to each and every one of their
customers. However, most employees only see their companies mission statement when they are
hired, and that can lead to an employee forgetting the purpose of their company. Nevertheless, this
forgetfulness is troubling and a problem to most food service managers. As manager of my parent's
liquor establishment developing a clear formal mission statement, understanding, and executing our
mission statement was a top priority of mine when I was hired. Upon my hiring, I noticed that the
business did not have a mission statement. I developed a mission statement that states, "A passion to
serve." This mission statement is simple, easy to memorize, and very useful. This mission statement
is a formal statement, but ties into the vision, core values, and

The Mission Journey
In 1986, the film "The Mission" was released. "The Mission" focuses on the journey of Jesuit Priest,
Father Gabriel, as he enters South America. Father Gabriel traveled to the Guarani lands to convert
the natives to Christianity. The title of the movie comes into play with the Priest joining Rodrigo
Mendoza, who was a reformed slave trader, on a mission in South America. A treaty is formed
between the Spanish and Portuguese that gave the Spanish territory to be ruled under Portuguese
jurisdiction. Father Gabriel and Mendoza take it upon themselves to defend the priest's mission.
Starting in the eighteenth century, the Jesuits began to fall under attack. These attacks occurred
because other nations believed the Jesuits had gained too much power. It was believed that the
Jesuits gained power from counseling during confessional, since they were confessors to some of
the most powerful nations in Europe. As the Enlightenment occurred, it came to show that religion
and the Church were not helping the progress of the economy. Because Spain and Portugal were in a
political decline, the one goal was to get rid of the Jesuits. With the disagreements between Spain

In order to preserve the Jesuit's order, the emissary orders the Jesuits to close their mission and give
the land to the Portuguese. Since Altamirano rejected the priest's appeal, Father Gabriel and
Mendoza decided to go on the mission to defend it. Altamirano is conflicted in his decisions because
he has to choose the lesser of two evils. If he decides in favor of the colonists, the indigenous
peoples will become enslaved; but if he rules in favor of the missions, the entire Jesuit Order may be
condemned by the Portuguese, causing the Church to fall apart as well. In his visits to the missions,
he is amazed at their industry and success. This causes Cardinal Altamirano to become more

Jean-Jacques Rousseau's The Mission
The Mission, a film set in 1507, reflects on a Jesuit mission settlement, torn apart by Spanish and
Portuguese government. With the papacy caught in the midst of this turmoil, conflicting ideas of
injustice and moral sense drive the message of the film. In connection to the Enlightenment, an era
of new philosophical ideas from the 1400s up until the 1600s, Jean–Jacques Rousseau's ideas of
individuality, human nature and corruption are best represented through the films.
As a philosopher in France, Rousseau focused heavily on human nature and what led human beings
to change. From innocence to malice, Rousseau believed people became corrupted by society; their
impure actions resulted from societal expectations. In one of his works, Rousseau ... Show more

He felt that people lived too naively, listening to everything Church and state told them was right
and obliged. He says, "...in the midst of so much philosophy, humanity, and civilization, and of such
sublime codes of morality, we have nothing to show for ourselves but a frivolous and deceitful
appearance, humor without virtue, reason without wisdom, and pleasure without happiness." () To
him, government expected everyone to present themselves as copies, with little room for originality
and individuality. Those in positions of power had crooked values, only wanting to benefit
themselves. Because the government was power hungry and constantly feening for more land and
power, they held too much control. In the film, as the Cardinal visits the missions, he sees their
beauty and falls in love with their complexity and peaceful structure. Even though he sees the good
in the missions and understands that they protect and convert Indians to his religion, he feels as if
money is more important. Caught in the middle of a dispute between the Spanish and the
Portuguese, the Cardinals tears peaceful living apart, all for an expansion of territory. Rousseau had
caught on to the game the Church and government played, he urged people to speak out. One of the
most corrupt figures in the film was Don Cabeza, a slave only. Yearning for more land and riches,
Don Cabeza actively tried to lure the

impossible challenge. The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the mission statements of Home
Depot and Nike. The evaluation starts with an explanation of criteria for a quality mission statement;
then assesses whether Home Depot and Nike meet such criteria. The assessment will show that the
mission statement of Nike is much more effective than that of Home Depot. Nike's mission

In the scholarly article entitled "The Relevance of Mission Statements: Analysing the Antecedents of
Perceived Message Quality and Its Relationship to Employee Mission Engagement," Desmidt
(2016) proclaims that high levels of mission comprehension ambiguity in mission statements cause
a detrimental impact on motivational power (pp. 898–899). The ambiguity and length of the mission
statement fails to meet the criteria for clarity. The sheer length of space taken in the previous
paragraph to cite the mission statement serves as evidence of its failure to meet criteria for
shortness, sharpness, and specificity. In the textbook Strategic Management for Organizations,
Abraham (2012) defines a mission statement as a concise statement and declares, "It should not
contain statements of values, strategies, or objectives (although many companies make this error)"
(p. 40). Home Depot is one of those many companies who made this error by openly incorporating
eight core values. Furthermore, the length and vagueness also make the mission statement quite
forgettable. The term broad is used to describe the company's selection of products, but can also be
used to describe its mission statement. In illustrating the criteria to be realistic, Kotler affirms, "The
company should avoid making the mission too narrow or too broad" (as cited in Olsen, 2010,

Mission Work as a Group
Social groups describe who we are as individuals. Every person is involved in multiple social groups
whether they realize it or not. Some social groups can be determined by a broad spectrum or a
narrow spectrum. Social groups can be spread out throughout different regions as well as an entire
nation as a whole. Every person who attends North Carolina State University is part of the same
social group. That social group can be broken down into many smaller groups, such as the
individual colleges in the University. Within those smaller groups of the different colleges, the
groups can even be divided into smaller groups by major, and then again by concentration. Every
person belongs to dozens of social groups without even realizing.
The social group that has played a huge role in my life is the one of people who has participated in
mission work. Mission work is something that has been very vital in my life ever since I was a little
girl in middle school. I do not know what my life would be today without being part of groups that
did service projects, and volunteer work as well as on many occasions spreading the knowledge of
Christianity. I have been a part of two groups in particular that have truly changed the way I look at
life and how I view other people. Tungsten Baptist Church and First Baptist Youth Group have both

Dehumanization In The Movie The Mission
In the movie, The Mission, the Jesuit Priest, Father Gabriel, played by Jeremy Lyons, in an effort to
liberate the Guarani people by proselytizing them to Christianity, becomes their oppressor by
changing their natural beliefs and practices. While his intentions are meritorious, they display
another form of colonialism and oppression. He does learn the Guarani' language. However, this
appears to be only as an attempt to teach them his way or the Jesuit way. Instead of learning the
Guarani culture and assimilating therein, he attempts to convert them to European culture. As an
example he teaches them music, which they had no knowledge of prior to his coming. He decides
what is best for the people and what they should learn. In one of the earliest scenes in the movie the
people did not wear clothes. Later on, we see the Guarani fully clothed, which was an indication that
the priests taught them that they should wear clothes. Prior to his coming, the Guarani could be said
to be in a "Garden of Eden" state ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He did not view the Guarani as human beings. In the Pedagogy of the Oppressed, Paulo Freire uses

considered fully human during the period of slavery and for much of the 20th century. In the United
States, oppression of African Americans and other minorities continues today. I disagree with Freire
that oppression affects both the oppressor and the oppressed. He says that "the oppressor, who is
him or herself dehumanized because he/she dehumanizes others" (Freire 47.) In my opinion, the
oppressor does not view him or herself as dehumanized. The oppressors see themselves as fully
vindicated because they are superior

Mission Statements : A Mission Statement Essay
Evaluating Mission Statements Most successful companies have a mission statement. But, why is it
important for a company to develop a mission statement? The purpose of the mission statement is to
describe what a business provides and to whom they are providing for. A company's mission
statement is usually developed by those in upper management positions, the top leaders of the
company. The mission statement is concise and it is used to communicate to the company's
customers, employees, and to anyone else what their business is all about; why they exist. However,
there are good and bad examples of mission statements lurking about in the business world. The
purpose of this paper will be to examine the mission statements of two companies, Home Depot and
Nike, and to evaluate the effectiveness of each based on the criteria set by Erica Olsen's article,
"Mission Statements." Hopefully, after reading this paper, you will be able to identify the differences
between an effective and non–effective mission statement. According to Olsen (2016), "Your
Mission Statement is the foundation to good strategy. It is a statement of the company's purpose. A
mission statement is a logical vantage point from which to look down the road." An effective
mission statement can be evaluated by asking the following questions:
Is the mission statement focused on satisfying customer needs rather than on the product?
Does the mission statement tell who the company's customers are?
Does the

Mission Trip To Brazil
The Word of God contains numerous scriptures pertaining to servitude. The last shall be first, well
done my good and faithful servant, and even the purpose of the Lord's Christ, to serve and give his
life a ransom for many. At one point in time or another, we have all had the opportunity to minister
to those weaker, less fortunate, confused, tired and heavy laden, or just people in our path. From the
miniscule of helps to the grandeur of provisions, anything we have done to the least of these, we
have done unto our Savior (Matthew 25:40). My pearls of serving others have carried me to the
uttermost parts of the world in the form of mission trips with ample opportunity to share the gospel.
Our marching orders known as the great commission is laid out in Acts, "But you will receive power
when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be my witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in
all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth." God hollered and I answered,

We have spent some unbelievable time in Brazil, Nicaragua (X 5), Honduras (X 5), Africa, and
Hungary. We are rolling to Mexico this June, and I am looking forward to serving in Haiti in the
very near future. During these trips, my ministry focused on women and children. I have been called
to be a carpenter, painter, roofer, journalist, photographer, teacher, evangelist, pharmacist, concrete
mixer, story teller, clown, softball/soccer coach, and singer to name a few. God called me to be an
ambassador for Christ, and He has never failed to be my provision. Any menial task that was my
responsibility, He smiled as I enthusiastically performed my calling. From dodging scorpions and
poisonous toads to running from a brood of chickens, I never had a dull moment on mission with
God. My travels began in 1999, and the following pages are stories

Mission Statement and Code of Ethics For this assignment I choose to look at two companies I am
currently working for. I have been with these companies for a few years and I have worked in
different positions within the companies. I feel I have a sense of how they are managed and can
compare my experiences with them to their goals of the mission statements and code of ethics.
The Home Depot Mission Statement The first company is The Home Depot. After reading the
mission statement I feel that it fits the company. It points out clearly being in the home improvement
business and the main focuses are pleasing the customers, having the better price and more products
than competitors. Working in my store I have experienced management ... Show more content on

Overall they were generalized. As an employee for the company I had not seen this until just
recently when the district manager brought them to our store so I read through it and signed a
document confirming I had. I do think we live these values each day through our working habits in
the workplace but I feel the company is slacking with giving the information or expectations of the
code to the employees. If the company doesn't provide the knowledge and training really necessary
to work by the company's code of ethics then what is the point of having one?
In conclusion The Home Depot mission statement and code of ethics were relatively good and the
company does walk the talk they are giving out. With Burger King the company's mission statement
follows their main goal but I feel they are slacking with the code of ethics and not exposing the
employees to it. Overall I think both companies are good places to work and I have enjoyed being
with them and feel I'm doing my part to contribute to their goals.

Taking A Look At The Film The Mission
The Mission is a film based on the colonization of South America through missionaries. The
Mission demonstrates how many influential philosophers' ideas live on and hold a long lasting
legacy. The film clearly showed traits from Martin Luther, Jean Jacques Rousseau, and Niccolo
Machiavelli. These three philosophers are among the most prominent in history, and their thoughts
and ideas are seen in great amount. The Mission predominantly showcased Machiavellian traits
including, but not limited to: "[...]the ends justifies the means[...]", the "general" welfare, and the
"absolute" power of the state (Machiavelli, The Prince). Despite some of the few appearances of the
other philosopher's ideas, "The Mission" fundamentally executed Niccolo Machiavelli's ... Show

As the head of the church in the colonies, he is forced to make decisions with other components in
mind other than his beliefs (The Mission 49–50). One of Niccolo Machiavelli's most defining traits,
is putting the general welfare before that of the minority. In order to keep peace throughout his
expansive territory, the Cardinal makes the final decision to: stop funding the missions, this in turn,
left many Guarani people without and doubting their faith (The Mission 82–83). The Cardinal had to
think of the general welfare rather than simply the missions. By making this decision, the Cardinal
carried out the peace and political relationships with both Portugal and Spain. The Cardinal's
reputation goes unscathed, and the territory he is responsible for is protected (The Mission 113–
114). Because of the actions seen by the Cardinal, it is clear that he cares about the "general" welfare
more than the minority. In essence, the Cardinal showed Machiavelli's ideas throughout the

Mission Statement : Developing A Vision And Mission
Recently, I was consulting a company, and the discussion came up on mission statements. This
particular company, as well as others I have consulted, lacked a mission and vision statement. They
are both successful organizations, however, there was lacking the critical element of what we do and
why we do it for their employees, and more importantly, for their customers.
An important theme connects the visions statement (the leader's strategic plan for the organization)
coupled and certainly interdependent is the mission statement (what we do, how do we do it, and
whom do we serve?). Creating your organization 's vision and mission statements are the first two
steps in developing the planning process. Developing a vision and mission statement is crucial to the
success of organizational initiatives. These statements explain your group 's aspirations in a concise
manner, help your organization focus on what is really important, and provide a basis for developing
other aspects of your strategic plan. "Mission statement help clarify what business you are in, your
goals and your objectives," says Rhonda Abrams, author of "The Successful Business Plan: Secrets
and Strategies."
Additionally, Abrams advocates your mission statement should reflect your business ' special niche.
However, studying other companies ' statements can fuel your creativity. Specially, and listed below
are useful tips to assist your organization in developing and crafting a unique and purposeful

slavery, but a few Jesuits are trying to stop them. To try to make the slave traders, and
representatives for the Spanish to change their thoughts, the Jesuits had a young Guaraní boy sing.
His singing was truly wonderful but a Spanish states man, and plantation owner named Don Cabeza
had a much more harsh attitude towards the boy. Cabeza said, "The Guaraní are jungle creatures
with human voices." (Don Cabeza, The Mission). As sad as it may be Cabeza's attitude was
indicative on how many felt about the natives. Natives in Africa were very rarely respected. They

The Mission Station Of Spain
The main theme of the story in the mission is about a group of Jesuits who established a mission
station around the borderland of Argentina, Paraguay and Brazil around 1750. Meanwhile, they
converted the local Indians to Christianity. At the end, Cardinal Altamirano ordered Jesuits to leave
the mission. Without the protection of the church, the local Indians were killed or slaved by
Portuguese. The script of the movie was written from a real historic event in 1754–1756, the
Guarani War, which Guarani communities defend their homeland against Spanish–Portuguese for
almost three years. The fuse of the war was ignited by the Treaty of Madrid in 1750, which was
signed by the king of Spain and Portugal to completely determine the border between Spain and
Portugal in South America by the area around Uruguay river. Around that time, the Jesuit mission
stations and the local Indians were growing rapidly both economically and regionally with their
outstanding plantations, which was much better than those in Portugal's own territory. As a
consequence, the Portuguese wanted to take over control the land and slave the Indians. They forced
the Catholic church to dissemble their mission station and did the massacre right after they leaved.
The paradigm that director used was carefully selected. The story of the movie was told from a
vision of Cardinal Altamirano, who was writing a letter to the pop for explaining what had
happened. Within the story, the two main narratives were not on

The Mission Movie Essay
The 1986 film, The Mission tells a story of a Jesuit priest, Father Gabriel enters the Guarani lands in
South America of wanting to convert the natives to Christianity. He builds a mission, where he is
joined by Rodrigo Mendoza, a reformed slave trader seeking redemption on a missionary. When a
treaty transfers the land from Spain to Portugal, the Portuguese government wants to capture the
natives for slave labor. Mendoza and Gabriel resolve to defend the mission, but disagree on how to
accomplish the task of the mission.
The treaty impacted the Guaraní Indians because Spain and Portugal signed the Treaty of Madrid
that redefined the borders of their colonies in South America. A lot of people that were part of Spain
and Portugal were very racist towards the Guaraní Indians. They called them animals and would not
allow them to live on their land. The Indians are indigenous to the land. I believe that all humans are
equal and should be treated the same. It is wrong to impose your own beliefs on another
cultural/ethnical group of people. Spain and Portugal are both imperialist. They are strong nations
that seek to dominate other countries. At one point in The Mission, a little Indian boy is singing for
the pope, cardinal and papacy. The Papal headquarters is located in Rome called Vatican in Vatican

their land from Spain to Portugal, Mendoza and Gabriel become determined to defend the mission,
even if they disagreed on the way they would accomplish the complex task. Machiavelli's teaching
are heavily present throughout the film, copiously reflecting his beliefs within each community

The Mission is about the missionaries in South America in the 18th century, with the main
characters being Mendoza and Father Gabriel. Mendoza evolves from a slave trader to a missionary
partnered with Father Gabriel. Their goal is to have a society with the Guarani and not have conflict
with either the Portuguese or Spanish. There are also governors who find them dangerous. Working
as opponents, they make it a goal to shut down missionaries and capture or kill the Guarani. In the
end, they are successful and the movie documents the fall of the mission, and the deaths of Mendezo
and Father Gabriel.

The Mission Movie Analysis
"The Mission" is a film that gives a historically accurate depiction of the events that took place in
South America around 1750, displaying the jesuit missions and their attempt at expanding
missionary ventures in the area. These missions foresaw the Jesuits going to uncharted areas of the
jungle inhabited by the Guarani people, demonstrating the significance assimilating the Guarani
people meant to the Jesuits. Additionally, the Guarani people were accurately displayed as a self–
sustained society where basic components such as: productivity, protection, justice regulations and a
form of a leader was evident in the form of their King. Nonetheless, the Guarani were an isolated
group of individuals who were secluded to the outside world; their only contact with outside
personnelles were slave traders who would put them into forced slavery for personal benefits. Not to
mention the "Treaty of Madrid", which resulted in the social and political disputes between the,
Portuguese, Spanish and Catholic community; manifesting in the form of territorial conflicts and
misunderstandings amongst the three vigorous societies, where each have a different purpose for the
Guarani people.
The opening scenes in the movie shows a man tied to a cross who is set to float down the river and
eventually falls over the robust waterfall. He was a man sent by the jesuits to assimilate the Guarani
people, however his death is unjustified in the movie which leads us to consequently assume that the
Guarani people were at fault for his death. Correspondingly, father Gabriel comes to deliver the
message of christianity to the Guarani people and establish a mission on their land. Most Jesuit
missions served as a form of protection for the Guarani natives from slave traders, owing to the fact
that the Jesuit missions had strict regulations about visiting outsiders. By means of enforcement
Jesuits only allowed the spanish or Portuguese to spend a maximum of three days in their
community. Nonetheless, Jesuit beliefs were conflicted by the actions of the Portuguese and the
spanish that conflicted with their impact on societal function, coming into the new world.
Considering the circumstances the, the Jesuits were compelled to make decisions

"The Mission" is a motion picture, directed by Roland Joffe in 1986, about a Jesuit mission that is
threatened by greed and imperialism in the late 18th century in the Brazilian jungle. Father Gabriel,
played by Jeremy Irons, climbs the mountains of Brazil to bring Christianity to the natives. He is
successful and brings about a golden age among them. Mendoza, played by Robert De Niro, a slave
trader, kills his brother, Felipe played by Aidan Quinn, in a fit of rage over a woman named Carlotta,

Mendoza to work at his mission with the natives, and Mendoza finds peace and asks to become a

In this movie, that translates into, how the Portuguese only wanted to gain these lands for profit.
Since natives lived there the Portuguese wanted to gain the land so they could trade slaves there.
This was the whole reason Mendoza disregarded his vows and fought against the Portuguese. The
other reason, imperialism, is the policy of extending a nation's authority by territorial acquisition or
by the establishment of economic and political domination over other nations. In this case, the
Portuguese wanted to acquire the lands belonging to the natives because of economic reasons.
The major theme of this movie is represented in a quote. This quote is, "The church is the bride of
Christ, she is also the cross on which he is daily crucified." The Bride of Jesus Christ is not a what,
it's a who. She is the many membered body of Jesus Christ that is carrying on the Message sent to
her from God, she is the Church. "For the marriage of the Lamb is come, And His wife hath made
herself ready." –Revelation 19:7, and "And there came unto me one of the seven angels which had
the seven vials full of the seven last plagues, and talked with me, saying, Come hither, I will shew
thee the bride, the Lamb's wife."–Revelation 21:9, are two quotes from the Bible including the word
"bride", this bride referred to is the Church. When we say "it is the cross on which he is daily
crucified," to me seems to be talking about the Eucharist and mass. Everyday the

Mission Trip Narrative
(The last suitcase was shoved into the back of the bus, and our next stop would be Winchester,
Virginia.) My youth group and I were headed to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania for a mission trip. We
would be involved with a program called P–2 mission, which partnered us with a local church,
Calvary Christian. During the day we would be doing street outreach and during the night we would
be hosting a Vacation Bible School. There was an urgency to have this church up and running
because the community around it was crumbling. The church itself was located in a shanty town.
Violence was on the rise and the community was in desperate need of a strong foundation. The
corruption was spreading so rapidly that the church's basketball court was becoming a place where
sexual predators would prey on young children. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Mission: A Misrepresentation Of History
A Misrepresentation of History
The Mission was filmed in 1986, was directed by Roland Joffé and written by Robert Bolt. The film,
set in the year 1758, depicts the story of the building of the missionaries in South America. The film
stars an award–winning cast and most of the filming locations are historically accurate (e.g.,
Argentina, Paraguay and Brazil). However, the movie presents an unrealistic portrayal of the three
main groups, those groups being the native Guaranís, the Jesuits and the Catholic Church
(represented by the Cardinal). In the film, the Guaranís are ready to abandon their beliefs when
father Gabriel and the Jesuits arrive. At the same time, the Jesuits are portrayed as gentle, peaceful
men who care about the Guaranís, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The next time we see the natives come in contact with a Jesuit it is when Father Gabriel makes his
way over the falls into their land and begins playing his music. The Guaraní in the film are
seemingly enchanted with the music father Gabriel plays from his oboe, so much so that they don't
kill him and they accept him. Realistically, this wouldn't make the natives accept the missionaries (p.
397). The natives only welcomed the Jesuits for their iron tools (e.g, hatchets, machetes, knives) and
their protection (p. 395). The Guaraní in the film are portrayed as typical Hollywood natives, most
of the men are covered with paint and the women are half nude. In the film the Jesuits seem to be
fine with this female nudity but logically, real Jesuits wouldn't have accepted this display of
sexuality and would have seen it as a lack of modesty (p. 400). One of the most nonsensical things
about the native characters is their blind acceptance of Christianity. In truth, most Guaranís rejected
Christianity for several decades (p. 400). The Guaraní are also referred to as free in the film, father
Gabriel states that "they come to us of their own free will" when in certainty natives weren't free in
real missionaries and were even subject to beatings (p. 402–403). The combination of these things is
what makes the Guaraní in the film appear as incapable of protecting themselves, inferior to the

My Mission Trip From The United States
I have never known a time in my life where I have not gone to church. With that being said, it's not
my largest priority. I tend to get distracted during the school year with deadlines and hanging out
with friends. It's when I'm able to go on a mission trip that I can truly show and see what I believe
in. I have been on four mission trips altogether and this summer I took a leap of faith and left the
country for the first time to serve. Nicaragua held the same focuses as trips in the United States, but
what I consider a mission trip from my experience in the past was not what this trip had in store. My
first mission trip was five years ago when I was in eighth grade. Both my sisters and brother had
gone on various mission trips and the one to Detroit was my first opportunity. On that trip we
worked on fixing up a couple churches that held youth group events. My team and I weeded,
painted, planted flowers, organized and cleaned the churches different offices and activity rooms
during the first couple days of the week long trip, the second half of the week, my team and I
consisting of middle schoolers, put on a day camp for the kids around the area to play games, do
crafts, eat lunch, listen to worship music and a message. It was a great experience because the adults
gave the responsibility of leading the camp to us kids. As far as cultural differences, they were mild
as Detroit is only a few hours away. The housing many families were living in was not to the

A Summary Of The Movie The Mission
The 1986 film The Mission depicts the relation of the Jesuits as a type of enlightening force for the
Guarani people, that is able to organized theses people in way that was not before possible. The
representation of the priest as these great liberators of knowledge by the movie is flattery, the
natives where indeed capable of organizing themselves as a society that the films choses to ignore.
The Guarani where not the pure molds that the movie presents, they contained there own original
and optioned ideas on how society works after contact with the Jesuits and in the missions, a notable
example of their ideas can be seen in religion. The natives are shown throughout the film of having
weak constitution to their traditional spirituality, and this was not the cause in history. My argument
is, the Guarini where not the passive molds for Christianity presented in the film, but where actually
relatively organized in them believes of spirituality and held strong options on the subject.
Supporting the argument against the films take will include: Ruiz de Montoya's The Spiritual
Conquest, a primary source form the prospective of a Jesuit priest during the time of The Mission;
James Schofield Seager's The Mission and Historical Missions: Film and the Writing of History,
focuses on the historical issues riddled within the film; and lecture notes form Dr. Austin, discussing
the actuality of what occurred in during the time period of The Mission. A scene in the film worthy

The First Half Of Discovering Missions
The first half of Discovering Missions written by Culbertson and Gailey introduce the countless
aspects of missions and related terminology in reference to missions. Throughout the book, the
focus is then directed to the important factors that play a part in missions. Chapters eight through
fourteen covers the importance of intercultural communication, volunteerism in mission,
development of missionaries, the contrasting philosophies and strategies of mission, the new
contexts from missions, the importance of mobilizing the local church and the changes affecting
mission today. From this reading, I have learned the important factors that have an effect on
missions and various ways in which they effect missions.
Intercultural communication is a form of communication that aims to share information across
different cultures and social groups. A form of communication is language. It is often viewed as an
important factor in relation to the cultural perspective. The cultural perspective refers to the way that
individuals are shaped by their environments as well as social and cultural factors. It affects how
people relate to one another and their ability to communicate. Language is essential in the study and
practice of global mission.
It is of great importance in the study and practice of global mission that we are able to communicate
effectively through having the knowledge of various languages. Being able to effectively
communicate enables us to reach those who we are

Andy Johnson's Guide to Missions Summarized

  • 1. Andy Johnson Missions Summary We know several people who have been on short–term mission trips. Perhaps you've even been on one yourself and proclaimed to others that you gained more from that trip than the people you went to serve. Maybe you're a full–time missionary living in another nation (at least for the majority of the year). Most likely, you're an average church member who knows the Great Commission but doesn't feel called to long–term overseas ministry. Regardless of where you stand, "Missions" by Andy Johnson is an excellent introduction to missions. Johnson provides readers with ways to be mission–minded, live missional lifestyles, and serve those who are on mission at home and abroad. Starting with a biblical foundation of missions, readers are called to make ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. The Mission Movie Essay This film "The Mission" depicts what happened during the campaign of Jesuit missionaries to missionaries in the Spanish occupied country to mission Christianity to Aboriginal people. It is Rodrigo Mendoza who appeared after the scene of the martyrdom of Julian. As a former mercenary and slave, he plays a swordsmanship match with his half–brother who has an affair with his lover. Rodrigo's brother first applied for a duel, but he tried to reconcile with Rodrigo. However, his dueling attitude began to duel with traditional dueling practices in which his face was hit with angry or gloves, and his half–brother died as a result. Rodrigo, who had felt guilty awaiting death for nearly half a year after the incident, became influenced by Father Gabriel and decided to join his mission. Because Rodrigo had previously hunted the Guaraní and sold them as slaves, he nailed all his armor, weapons, and swords that he had used in the sense of repenting his sins, and made chunks. He takes it around and visits the Guaraní with priest Fielding and Gabriel. The Guaraní, who are familiar with Rodrigo there, are excited at first and put their swords on Rodrigo's neck, but they forgive Rodrigo and cut off the rope with a knife and throw the armor and weapon sphere in the net into the river. So, Rodrigo was crying and rejoicing, and Gabriel played a beautiful oboe melody. Aboriginal people who perceive them as peaceful ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The mission of Father Gabriel was to make the Guaraní villages a new sanctuary and a place of education. Rodrigo and Gabriel set up a new town and a cathedral. Both of these companies' focus provides clothing for the outdoorsman. A mission statement is an important message from the company to all of their stakeholders. (King D. C., 2012) Patagonia Outdoor Clothing's mission statement is to build the best product, cause no unnecessary harm, use business to inspire and implement solutions to the environmental crisis. Columbia Sportswear's mission statement is to design and deliver authentic, outdoor, high–value products for active consumers of all ages. Both of these mission statements are different but do have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is clearly stated in both of their mission statements, the best product and high–value product. Aside from that, I do not feel that both companies are heading in the same direction. Patagonia Outdoor Clothing clearly positions itself to consider what effects on the environment they will have in the future. This is telling both the employees and stakeholders not only are they proving the best product, they care about the future of the planet and to ensure it will still be here for our family and friends. Columbia Sportswear does not mention or even elude caring about the environment in their mission statement. A company's social responsibility is now a focus not only by investors but to consumers as well. Social responsibility is for organizations to behave ethically and show consideration regarding social, cultural, economic and environmental issues. (What is Social Responsibility? Why is it Important, 2008) Patagonia Outdoor Clothing takes this head on. When the company opened its first store in Boston, Massachusetts all of the employees were experiencing headaches. Upon a thorough investigation, it was discovered that their inventory of cotton based clothing in the basement was generating toxic fumes. They used conventional cotton, which is the use of insecticides and other chemicals to grow the cotton. This incidence led Patagonia Outdoor Clothing switch to the use of only organic ... • 13. The Short Term Mission Trips Think about the poverty and problems that all countries around the world are facing today and every day. As Americans we have an urge to go into these countries to help as much as possible because of that we have begun a revolution. Americans began going on mission trips around the 1960s but did not really pick up until the 1990s. The trend grew after multiple natural disasters, Americans saw and need and went, since then short term mission trips show no sign stopping anytime soon. As the popularity of leaving our comfort zones, many people have found issues with the way the trips are led to the extent of questioning whether or not these trips are really worth the amount of money and time that they consume. Through periodicals, interviews, narratives, and articles, I will show the issues and improvements that could be made to the living situations, attitude of the Americans, and relationships that are acquired during the short term mission trips. In October of 1998, Hurricane Mitch slammed onto the coasts of multiple South American countries. Countless people lost their homes, over eleven thousand people lost their lives, and the hurricane left five billion dollars' worth of damage in its wake ("Hurricane Mitch"). This event caused a new wave of events also of short term mission trips. Americans seeing the cities torn to shreds decided to act. For a couple of weeks at a time, different groups would go clean up, rebuild, and show love to the people of these devastated ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. The Mission Movie Analysis The movie The Mission brought to light many of the issues that the developing world has faced in the past and continues to face today. The indigenous people of Paraguay and Southern Brazil, the Guarani, faced terrifying encounters with the powerful European colonizers during the period of European colonialism. Many innocent people on both sides of the battle lost their lives. The Jesuits were a Christian missionary group that brought the Good News of Jesus Christ, all the while helping to defend the indigenous people by respecting their culture and human dignity, also referred to as "inculturation". The Jesuit presence paved the way for later ideas such as liberation theology and the post–colonial theory. The Commonweal article, "What We Can and Cannot Fix: Rewatching The Mission prompts viewers to reassess the film and notice other possible issues that were related to the Jesuit's presence. The Jesuits had a huge presence during the brutal attacks that occurred between the European colonists and the Guarani. The Jesuits always sided with the indigenous people and worked to protect their safety and human dignity. However, the main goal of the missionary enterprise as stated by Fr. Gabriel, the leader of the Jesuits, was "to make Christians out of these people." At first, this statement appears to be a genuine act of kindness attempting o present the Jesuit Christian faith to the Guarani to show them the love and hope that their God could provide to them. Wimbish American Military University Mission, Vision, and Values An organization's vision is based on what it feels is possible to achieve, all about the potential it possesses. The organization's mission is the process it employs to make that vision a reality. An organization's values are the fundamental principles that are established by the stakeholders in an effort to guide the organization. An organization's core values must match up with the mission and its vision to contribute to the overall success of the organization. The core values are what management practices and expect the employees to practice as well in order to fulfill the company mission and achieve its vision. This paper will present ... When forming a vision, the leadership must be realistic about their market, competition, economic climate, and regulatory conditions and properly ascertain and espouse the values of management, employees, and stakeholders (Schoemaker, 1992). A company's mission is its statement that communicates the purpose of the organization. It gives the who, what, and why of the business. This successful completion of the strategic planning and execution process allows for the public and the organization's members to see that the vision was established to be reality and not simply rhetoric, as is the case with many organizations that suffers from confrontations between management and a lack of commitment to the organization's vision and values (Fiegener, Brown, Prince & File,1996). The three organizations listed all took steps towards strategic planning and execution in the formation of their vision, mission, and values statements. Creating The Future was by far the poorest example of strategic planning and execution. Their mission, vision and values are too ambiguous to properly inform or inspire its members or supporters. On the other end of the spectrum, Oxfam and The Diaper Bank have strong, clear visions, and mission and they are supported by a good set of core ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A vision statement should not be confused with mission statement as both statements taking part in two distinctive aspects. As indicated in the strategic management model, vision and mission are indispensable. A vision statement describes as a blueprint of what an organization sees itself to be in the future. Therefore, a vision statement must able to answer the question, "What do we want to become?" because main function of vision statement is to communicate to the stakeholder where the organization desires and aspires to be. • 29. Christian Mission Book Review Essay Christian Mission Book Review Part two begins with David Livingstone, a Scottish missionary, and a professional doctor. He was very interested in exploration and his main goal was to stop Portuguese and Arab slave trade, he believed in human self–worth. He got his men and his supplies and started his voyage to Africa to map Africa, he was successful at mapping most of Zambezi. Livingstone was accused of not being a "real" missionary and he was too political but he always made sure he was working with God in mind. Livingstone died at the age of 60 in 1873 defending the African's freedom. His people cut out his heart and buried it, the rest of his body was mummified and taken to Westminster Abbey to be buried, as he wished. A statue was built in his honor with the base reading, "Missionary, Explorer, Liberator". Livingstone is one example of how much political and economic power a Christian missionary can have. He also encouraged the work of the Jesuits in China. The western power and missionaries have created bad names for the social/cultural changes or for being connected with colonialism, imperialism, westernity, and modernity mostly by the missionaries. Some say that Christianity has challenged or strengthened the local power. "Scientific racism" first came up in the 1850s Joseph–Arthur de Gobineu's book called Essi sur l'inegalite des races humanines. More or less, keep the brass ring just out of reach in order to continue to strive for the next level while inspiring the team that is vested. The Honeywell FM&T vision statement does place some focus on a few of the elements of an effective vision. These elements are outlined in the lecture as future oriented, compelling, bold, aspiring, inspiring, believable, and achievable (Lecture). The elements that are easy to notice are the onese the focus on being compelling, bold, and aspiring. The message does a great job by captivating individuals with words like, "world's most trusted source" and "providing exceptional solutions". When we look at inspiring, believable and achievable, the organization can more or less hang its hat on the same elements with an additional focus on "talented employees". A vision statement is designed to paint a picture and sort of play on the emotions of those involved. Therefore, I think that there are aspects of the Honeywell vision that do exactly that. However, the element that appears to be lacking is a focus on future oriented. The vision statement seems to focus solely on where they are now and leaves no room for growth. • 41. The Mission And Mission Of The Church's Global Outreach Mission refers to an individual or group of people being sent out to complete a specific task or purpose, such as ministering to those who lack the knowledge of Christ. Culbertson and Gailey define missions as the "attempt to fulfill God 's call to make disciples of all people" (Culbertson 224). In Discovering Missions, Culbertson and Gailey speak on the countless aspects of missions and the importance of global mission. The term mission means "sending out" or "assigned task" (Culbertson 9). Missiology is a reflection upon the practice of Christian mission (Culbertson 9). The difference between mission and missions is that mission is simply a "response to God's calling" and the term missions are referring to "specific ways and organizational structures in which the Church's global outreach is carried out" (Culbertson 11). The ultimate mission is discipleship. A strong foundation is required to accept such a calling and to be effective in it. "If God's people today want to be covenant partakers, they must view global mission as something more than optional or tangential" (Culbertson 35). Not everyone is called to do global mission. In other words, not everyone has the foundation required to answer to such a calling. In accepting a call to missionary work, one must put themselves aside for the sake of others. The ultimate mission is discipleship. The church is to reach people and win souls. Through winning souls, the believers are to be built up and equipped for the work of ... It is a standard practice in this industry when companies' hires a food service worker their new employers go over the rules, regulations, along with reviewing the company's handbook. Within that handbook, there is a paragraph or two that explains the mission statement. Some companies mission statements are rather long and tedious while others are short and sweet. However, the general concept of the mission statements is to provide great dining, atmosphere, and service to each and every one of their customers. However, most employees only see their companies mission statement when they are hired, and that can lead to an employee forgetting the purpose of their company. Nevertheless, this forgetfulness is troubling and a problem to most food service managers. As manager of my parent's liquor establishment developing a clear formal mission statement, understanding, and executing our mission statement was a top priority of mine when I was hired. Upon my hiring, I noticed that the business did not have a mission statement. I developed a mission statement that states, "A passion to serve." This mission statement is simple, easy to memorize, and very useful. This mission statement is a formal statement, but ties into the vision, core values, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 49. The Mission Journey In 1986, the film "The Mission" was released. "The Mission" focuses on the journey of Jesuit Priest, Father Gabriel, as he enters South America. Father Gabriel traveled to the Guarani lands to convert the natives to Christianity. The title of the movie comes into play with the Priest joining Rodrigo Mendoza, who was a reformed slave trader, on a mission in South America. A treaty is formed between the Spanish and Portuguese that gave the Spanish territory to be ruled under Portuguese jurisdiction. Father Gabriel and Mendoza take it upon themselves to defend the priest's mission. Starting in the eighteenth century, the Jesuits began to fall under attack. These attacks occurred because other nations believed the Jesuits had gained too much power. It was believed that the Jesuits gained power from counseling during confessional, since they were confessors to some of the most powerful nations in Europe. As the Enlightenment occurred, it came to show that religion and the Church were not helping the progress of the economy. Because Spain and Portugal were in a political decline, the one goal was to get rid of the Jesuits. With the disagreements between Spain and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 53. Jean-Jacques Rousseau's The Mission The Mission, a film set in 1507, reflects on a Jesuit mission settlement, torn apart by Spanish and Portuguese government. With the papacy caught in the midst of this turmoil, conflicting ideas of injustice and moral sense drive the message of the film. In connection to the Enlightenment, an era of new philosophical ideas from the 1400s up until the 1600s, Jean–Jacques Rousseau's ideas of individuality, human nature and corruption are best represented through the films. As a philosopher in France, Rousseau focused heavily on human nature and what led human beings to change. From innocence to malice, Rousseau believed people became corrupted by society; their impure actions resulted from societal expectations. In one of his works, Rousseau ... () To him, government expected everyone to present themselves as copies, with little room for originality and individuality. Those in positions of power had crooked values, only wanting to benefit themselves. Because the government was power hungry and constantly feening for more land and power, they held too much control. In the film, as the Cardinal visits the missions, he sees their beauty and falls in love with their complexity and peaceful structure. Even though he sees the good in the missions and understands that they protect and convert Indians to his religion, he feels as if money is more important. Caught in the middle of a dispute between the Spanish and the Portuguese, the Cardinals tears peaceful living apart, all for an expansion of territory. The ambiguity and length of the mission statement fails to meet the criteria for clarity. The sheer length of space taken in the previous paragraph to cite the mission statement serves as evidence of its failure to meet criteria for shortness, sharpness, and specificity. In the textbook Strategic Management for Organizations, Abraham (2012) defines a mission statement as a concise statement and declares, "It should not contain statements of values, strategies, or objectives (although many companies make this error)" (p. 40). Home Depot is one of those many companies who made this error by openly incorporating eight core values. Furthermore, the length and vagueness also make the mission statement quite forgettable. The term broad is used to describe the company's selection of products, but can also be used to describe its mission statement. Everyone expected everything to be the same as last year but everything was different this time. There were very many problems this time. Every person who attends North Carolina State University is part of the same social group. Dehumanization In The Movie The Mission In the movie, The Mission, the Jesuit Priest, Father Gabriel, played by Jeremy Lyons, in an effort to liberate the Guarani people by proselytizing them to Christianity, becomes their oppressor by changing their natural beliefs and practices. While his intentions are meritorious, they display another form of colonialism and oppression. He does learn the Guarani' language. However, this appears to be only as an attempt to teach them his way or the Jesuit way. Instead of learning the Guarani culture and assimilating therein, he attempts to convert them to European culture. As an example he teaches them music, which they had no knowledge of prior to his coming. He decides what is best for the people and what they should learn. In one of the earliest scenes in the movie the people did not wear clothes. • 85. Mission Statements : A Mission Statement Essay Evaluating Mission Statements Most successful companies have a mission statement. But, why is it important for a company to develop a mission statement? The purpose of the mission statement is to describe what a business provides and to whom they are providing for. A company's mission statement is usually developed by those in upper management positions, the top leaders of the company. The mission statement is concise and it is used to communicate to the company's customers, employees, and to anyone else what their business is all about; why they exist. However, there are good and bad examples of mission statements lurking about in the business world. The purpose of this paper will be to examine the mission statements of two companies, Home Depot and Nike, and to evaluate the effectiveness of each based on the criteria set by Erica Olsen's article, "Mission Statements." Hopefully, after reading this paper, you will be able to identify the differences between an effective and non–effective mission statement. According to Olsen (2016), "Your Mission Statement is the foundation to good strategy. It is a statement of the company's purpose. A mission statement is a logical vantage point from which to look down the road." An effective mission statement can be evaluated by asking the following questions: Is the mission statement focused on satisfying customer needs rather than on the product? Does the mission statement tell who the company's customers are? Does the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Mission Station Of Spain The main theme of the story in the mission is about a group of Jesuits who established a mission station around the borderland of Argentina, Paraguay and Brazil around 1750. Meanwhile, they converted the local Indians to Christianity. At the end, Cardinal Altamirano ordered Jesuits to leave the mission. Without the protection of the church, the local Indians were killed or slaved by Portuguese. The script of the movie was written from a real historic event in 1754–1756, the Guarani War, which Guarani communities defend their homeland against Spanish–Portuguese for almost three years. The fuse of the war was ignited by the Treaty of Madrid in 1750, which was signed by the king of Spain and Portugal to completely determine the border between Spain and Portugal in South America by the area around Uruguay river. Around that time, the Jesuit mission stations and the local Indians were growing rapidly both economically and regionally with their outstanding plantations, which was much better than those in Portugal's own territory. As a consequence, the Portuguese wanted to take over control the land and slave the Indians. They forced the Catholic church to dissemble their mission station and did the massacre right after they leaved. The paradigm that director used was carefully selected. When a treaty transfers the land from Spain to Portugal, the Portuguese government wants to capture the natives for slave labor. • 125. The Mission Movie Analysis "The Mission" is a film that gives a historically accurate depiction of the events that took place in South America around 1750, displaying the jesuit missions and their attempt at expanding missionary ventures in the area. These missions foresaw the Jesuits going to uncharted areas of the jungle inhabited by the Guarani people, demonstrating the significance assimilating the Guarani people meant to the Jesuits. Additionally, the Guarani people were accurately displayed as a self– sustained society where basic components such as: productivity, protection, justice regulations and a form of a leader was evident in the form of their King. Nonetheless, the Guarani were an isolated group of individuals who were secluded to the outside world; their only contact with outside personnelles were slave traders who would put them into forced slavery for personal benefits. Not to mention the "Treaty of Madrid", which resulted in the social and political disputes between the, Portuguese, Spanish and Catholic community; manifesting in the form of territorial conflicts and misunderstandings amongst the three vigorous societies, where each have a different purpose for the Guarani people. The opening scenes in the movie shows a man tied to a cross who is set to float down the river and eventually falls over the robust waterfall. He was a man sent by the jesuits to assimilate the Guarani people, however his death is unjustified in the movie which leads us to consequently assume that the Guarani people were at fault for his death. Correspondingly, father Gabriel comes to deliver the message of christianity to the Guarani people and establish a mission on their land. Most Jesuit missions served as a form of protection for the Guarani natives from slave traders, owing to the fact that the Jesuit missions had strict regulations about visiting outsiders. By means of enforcement Jesuits only allowed the spanish or Portuguese to spend a maximum of three days in their community. Nonetheless, Jesuit beliefs were conflicted by the actions of the Portuguese and the spanish that conflicted with their impact on societal function, coming into the new world. The Mission Essay "The Mission" is a motion picture, directed by Roland Joffe in 1986, about a Jesuit mission that is threatened by greed and imperialism in the late 18th century in the Brazilian jungle. Father Gabriel, played by Jeremy Irons, climbs the mountains of Brazil to bring Christianity to the natives. He is successful and brings about a golden age among them. Mendoza, played by Robert De Niro, a slave trader, kills his brother, Felipe played by Aidan Quinn, in a fit of rage over a woman named Carlotta, played by Cherie Lunghi. Only Fr. Gabriel's leadership prevents his suicide. Gabriel brings Mendoza to work at his mission with the natives, and Mendoza finds peace and asks to become a priest. The Church, under pressure, gives the land up to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this movie, that translates into, how the Portuguese only wanted to gain these lands for profit. Since natives lived there the Portuguese wanted to gain the land so they could trade slaves there. This was the whole reason Mendoza disregarded his vows and fought against the Portuguese. The other reason, imperialism, is the policy of extending a nation's authority by territorial acquisition or by the establishment of economic and political domination over other nations. In this case, the Portuguese wanted to acquire the lands belonging to the natives because of economic reasons. The major theme of this movie is represented in a quote. This quote is, "The church is the bride of Christ, she is also the cross on which he is daily crucified." The Bride of Jesus Christ is not a what, it's a who. She is the many membered body of Jesus Christ that is carrying on the Message sent to her from God, she is the Church. "For the marriage of the Lamb is come, And His wife hath made herself ready." –Revelation 19:7, and "And there came unto me one of the seven angels which had the seven vials full of the seven last plagues, and talked with me, saying, Come hither, I will shew thee the bride, the Lamb's wife."–Revelation 21:9, are two quotes from the Bible including the word "bride", this bride referred to is the Church. When we say "it is the cross on which he is daily crucified," to me seems to be talking about the Eucharist and mass. Everyday the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 133. Mission Trip Narrative (The last suitcase was shoved into the back of the bus, and our next stop would be Winchester, Virginia.) My youth group and I were headed to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania for a mission trip. We would be involved with a program called P–2 mission, which partnered us with a local church, Calvary Christian. During the day we would be doing street outreach and during the night we would be hosting a Vacation Bible School. There was an urgency to have this church up and running because the community around it was crumbling. The church itself was located in a shanty town. Violence was on the rise and the community was in desperate need of a strong foundation. The corruption was spreading so rapidly that the church's basketball court was becoming a place where sexual predators would prey on young children. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Our bus broke down, our hotel rooms were given away, we had no air conditioning for a majority of the trip, and what we thought would take us 11 hours ended up taking 26. We finally arrive at the school, where we would be sleeping for the remainder of the week. We stepped foot off the bus and we were immediately aghast at how sweltering the air was. Apparently, Philadelphia was in the midst of a heat wave, bringing in record highest of 105F. After such a long journey the feeling of failure was weighing upon us. At the end of the day we were all exhausted and ready to fall into a deep slumber. Then we realized our room, just like the bus, had no air conditioning. We lay there sweating against the plastic filled air mattress dreading the proceeding day when we would be hiking the melting streets of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 137. The Mission: A Misrepresentation Of History A Misrepresentation of History The Mission was filmed in 1986, was directed by Roland Joffé and written by Robert Bolt. The film, set in the year 1758, depicts the story of the building of the missionaries in South America. The film stars an award–winning cast and most of the filming locations are historically accurate (e.g., Argentina, Paraguay and Brazil). However, the movie presents an unrealistic portrayal of the three main groups, those groups being the native Guaranís, the Jesuits and the Catholic Church (represented by the Cardinal). In the film, the Guaranís are ready to abandon their beliefs when father Gabriel and the Jesuits arrive. At the same time, the Jesuits are portrayed as gentle, peaceful men who care about the Guaranís, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The next time we see the natives come in contact with a Jesuit it is when Father Gabriel makes his way over the falls into their land and begins playing his music. The Guaraní in the film are seemingly enchanted with the music father Gabriel plays from his oboe, so much so that they don't kill him and they accept him. Realistically, this wouldn't make the natives accept the missionaries (p. 397). The natives only welcomed the Jesuits for their iron tools (e.g, hatchets, machetes, knives) and their protection (p. 395). The Guaraní in the film are portrayed as typical Hollywood natives, most of the men are covered with paint and the women are half nude. In the film the Jesuits seem to be fine with this female nudity but logically, real Jesuits wouldn't have accepted this display of sexuality and would have seen it as a lack of modesty (p. 400). One of the most nonsensical things about the native characters is their blind acceptance of Christianity. In truth, most Guaranís rejected Christianity for several decades (p. 400). The Guaraní are also referred to as free in the film, father Gabriel states that "they come to us of their own free will" when in certainty natives weren't free in real missionaries and were even subject to beatings (p. 402–403). The combination of these things is what makes the Guaraní in the film appear as incapable of protecting themselves, inferior to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 141. My Mission Trip From The United States I have never known a time in my life where I have not gone to church. With that being said, it's not my largest priority. I tend to get distracted during the school year with deadlines and hanging out with friends. It's when I'm able to go on a mission trip that I can truly show and see what I believe in. I have been on four mission trips altogether and this summer I took a leap of faith and left the country for the first time to serve. Nicaragua held the same focuses as trips in the United States, but what I consider a mission trip from my experience in the past was not what this trip had in store. My first mission trip was five years ago when I was in eighth grade. Both my sisters and brother had gone on various mission trips and the one to Detroit was my first opportunity. On that trip we worked on fixing up a couple churches that held youth group events. My team and I weeded, painted, planted flowers, organized and cleaned the churches different offices and activity rooms during the first couple days of the week long trip, the second half of the week, my team and I consisting of middle schoolers, put on a day camp for the kids around the area to play games, do crafts, eat lunch, listen to worship music and a message. It was a great experience because the adults gave the responsibility of leading the camp to us kids. As far as cultural differences, they were mild as Detroit is only a few hours away. The housing many families were living in was not to the standard ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 145. A Summary Of The Movie The Mission The 1986 film The Mission depicts the relation of the Jesuits as a type of enlightening force for the Guarani people, that is able to organized theses people in way that was not before possible. The representation of the priest as these great liberators of knowledge by the movie is flattery, the natives where indeed capable of organizing themselves as a society that the films choses to ignore. The Guarani where not the pure molds that the movie presents, they contained there own original and optioned ideas on how society works after contact with the Jesuits and in the missions, a notable example of their ideas can be seen in religion. The natives are shown throughout the film of having weak constitution to their traditional spirituality, and this was not the cause in history. My argument is, the Guarini where not the passive molds for Christianity presented in the film, but where actually relatively organized in them believes of spirituality and held strong options on the subject. Supporting the argument against the films take will include: Ruiz de Montoya's The Spiritual Conquest, a primary source form the prospective of a Jesuit priest during the time of The Mission; James Schofield Seager's The Mission and Historical Missions: Film and the Writing of History, focuses on the historical issues riddled within the film; and lecture notes form Dr. Austin, discussing the actuality of what occurred in during the time period of The Mission. Consequently, nonprofits face major challenges in a constantly changing environment. This type of environment has created a battle amongst other nonprofits as they struggle to obtain similar resources. In this memorandum, the topic of strategy formulation in the not–for–profit area and its application to nonprofits are touched on. What does the Literature have to say? The foundation and essence of an organization lies in its mission statement. A mission statement is an opportunity for an organization to set themselves apart from other organizations. • 153. The First Half Of Discovering Missions The first half of Discovering Missions written by Culbertson and Gailey introduce the countless aspects of missions and related terminology in reference to missions. Throughout the book, the focus is then directed to the important factors that play a part in missions. Chapters eight through fourteen covers the importance of intercultural communication, volunteerism in mission, development of missionaries, the contrasting philosophies and strategies of mission, the new contexts from missions, the importance of mobilizing the local church and the changes affecting mission today. From this reading, I have learned the important factors that have an effect on missions and various ways in which they effect missions. Intercultural communication is a form of communication that aims to share information across different cultures and social groups. A form of communication is language. It is often viewed as an important factor in relation to the cultural perspective. The cultural perspective refers to the way that individuals are shaped by their environments as well as social and cultural factors. It affects how people relate to one another and their ability to communicate. Language is essential in the study and practice of global mission. It is of great importance in the study and practice of global mission that we are able to communicate effectively through having the knowledge of various languages. Being able to effectively communicate enables us to reach those who we are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
