Apollo Goals
One of the primary goals of the Apollo program was to beat Russia to the Moon. Some of the other
goals were establishing the technology to meet other national interests in space, achieving
superiority in space for the United States, scientific exploration of the Moon, and developing man's
capability to work in the lunar environment. In the first Apollo mission (Apollo 1), the astronauts
were Virgil Grissom, Edward Higgins and Roger Chaffee. These men all passed away during a pre–
flight test when a fire swept throughout the command module (CM) that they were in. This tragedy
happened on January 27th, 1967. They were scheduled to launch on February 27th, 1967. The
investigation of the fire and the never ending rework on the Apollo command modules

Analytical Essay: The Oracle Of Apollo At Delphi
The Oracle of Apollo at Delphi is shrouded in myth and mystery, but one thing is certain, their
prophetic influence stretched far and wide and was detrimental in shaping Greece.
Neither war nor boundary was determined without conferring the Delphic Oracle first. The Oracle of
Apollo was held in high regard by the likes of "Plutarch, Plato, Aristotle, and Diodorus" (Broad 10).
The Trojan War and Theban War were in part responses to the Oracle's forecasts (Fontenrose 4). The
Delphic Oracle shaped the decision of Spartans and consulted the "Greek states at the time of the
Persian War" (Fontenrose 6). For well over a millennium, devotees would continue to seek the
Delphic Oracle's counsel. The Greek legacy is riddled with her prophecies. ... Show more content on

The names "Pytho" and "Pythian" symbolized Apollo's victory over the creature (Scott 32). What
happened next? According to the Homeric Hymn, Apollo set out to find men to manage his new
temple. He found a ship of Cretan sailors; Apollo then turned himself into a dolphin and forced the
ship to steer "off course"(Scott 32). Apollo brought the crew into port, unveiled his true identity and
demanded the sailor's travel to Pytho (Scott 32). Once in Pytho they must build a sanctuary
dedicated to Apollo (Scott 33). Upon reaching the infertile grounds of Pytho, the Cretan sailors were
shocked (Scott 33). They questioned how they could survive in such treacherous and unforgiving
terrain (Scott 33). Apollo answered them, explaining that support would be made possible by the
gifts and donations "of all those who came to worship and consult his oracle" (Scott 33). The
Homeric myth is only one of the many parables that explain Delphi's origin, but the record of the
Oracle's prophecies at Delphi have been slightly more concrete. Polytheism was practiced in ancient
Greece. Apollo, the god of music, light, and order, was the son of Zeus. "The gods were considered
all powerful, all controlling and all knowing" (Scott 9). The Oracle of Apollo was the most steadfast
and consistent prognosticator in all of Greece. People would traverse over long distances and in
some cases wait for months on end just to seek advice from the sibyl (Scott 9). The questions

Apollo 11
From countdown to splashdown, Apollo 11 's mission was filled with some surprising twists and
turns. It took a combination of luck, determination and guts for the crew of Michael Collins, Buzz
Aldrin, and Neil Armstrong to get the Eagle to the surface of the moon with only 30 seconds of fuel
remaining! Experience the moments leading up to the lunar landing with me.
On the morning of July 16, 1969 a 60–ton Saturn 5 rocket was given a thorough inspection on
launch pad 39–A at the Kennedy Space Center. On board, Four and half tons of fuel, and a spider–
shaped spaceship covered with gold and silver foil.

Months before he blasted off, Buzz Aldrin lobbied very hard to be the first man on the Moon.
The commander of this and all subsequent Apollo missions would be the first to leave the spaceship.
Right now Aldrin 's job was to help his commander get out the door, and then fifteen minutes later
Buzz Aldrin would become the second man on the Moon.
Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin deployed some scientific experiments, collected 20 kilograms of
rocks, and took hundreds of pictures of the lunar surface. Future crews would spend several days on
the Moon. Armstrong and Aldrin spent 2 hours and 31 minutes. With their moonwalk behind them,
all that was left for the astronauts to do was get some sleep, then blast off and link up with Mike
Collins and the Command Module.
Of course, nobody had ever blasted off from the surface of the Moon before, and if there was some
kind of failure, there were very few options for two men who were now almost 400 thousand
kilometers from Earth.
Both astronauts had confidence in the spaceship that would take them from the surface of the Moon,
and a successful docking with the command module was pretty much a sure bet. Buzz Aldrin had
written the book on rendezvous in lunar orbit, so there was no one more qualified to execute that
maneuver. But Aldrin 's confidence for success was shaken just moments before he got some much–
needed rest. A breaker that if

An Essay About Apollo Flayed
Apollo
According to the Greek poet Hesiod, "Apollo is the son of the Olympian Zeus and Titan Leto who is
the goddess of dark nights. Artemis is his twin sister, who is also an Olympian"(Hesiod). He is the
god of sun, light, music, and prophecy. Besides, he is also the god for both medicine and healing.
Apollo is associated with medicine and healing through his son, Asclepius. Yet, he could bring ill
health and deadly plague (Houle 34). He is feared as he is able to bring ill health to mortals.
Apollo is often shown in playing the lyre. According to "Favorite Greek Myths", "Apollo has won
couple musical contests by playing his golden seven strings lyre, which is said to represent the seven
planets" (Hyde 17). One time, Phyrgian satyr Marsayas challenges Apollo to a music contest. At the
end, Satyr lost the contest and is flayed alive. The lyre that Apollo plays is invented by Hermes, the
messenger of Zeus. One day, Apollo notices the beautiful musical instrument that Hermes carries
and was fascinated in that. He wants to trade with Hermes for ... Show more content on

In "Ovid: love and transformation", it starts off by saying, "The very first love of Phoebus Apollo

off with Apollo joking around with Eros, the god of love, that he is a better archer than him. As a
revenge, Eros decides to take his magic arrows and shoots it at Apollo's heart to make him falls in
love with Daphne. After that, Eros pulls out another arrow and shoots it to Daphne. However, the

Analysis : Bust Of Apollo
Within the Greek pantheon, Apollo is the god of medicine, music, art, poetry, sun, light, knowledge,
oracles, and archery. When Rome adapted and slightly modified the Greek pantheon, his attributes
changed little–the Romans did not alter his name. One example of this god can be found in the
Denver Art Museum's collection. A sculpture titled Bust of Apollo, a Roman artifact made between
100 and 200 C.E. embodies this popular depiction faithfully. He is often represented akin to a
kouros, holding the signature face and body unmarked by old age and a brow clear of worry, and the
composition of sculptures of Apollo typically hold to the ideal proportions of Greek society despite
its Roman origins. In this way, while this work is made in a later century than the peak of Greek
society, it illustrates the Roman affection for such traditions. Bust of Apollo is a characteristic of
Roman style as it is strongly influenced by Greek techniques, therefore displaying the connections
between these two cultures and exemplifies naturalistic methods of sculptures. The museum placed
this work in the Discovery Room on the 6th floor, approximately six to seven feet off the ground in
a glass case. Although the work contains only a head, a neck, and a suggestion of shoulders, the
presence of smooth skin and a relaxed brow exemplify the kouros style. The sculpture is crafted
from a creamy, off–white marble but it is unknown if there are any traces of paint. Further, the
sculpture measures

Archaic Apollo Poem
Poem Commentary; Archaic Torso of Apollo
"Archaic Torso of Apollo" is a poem by Rainer Maria Rilke. Rilke was a Bohemian–Austrian poet
and the poem has been translated from German to English. The poem's literal reference is to a statue
named the Miletus Torso. The marble statue represents a male's torso with no head, arms, or legs
and is suspected to be a depiction of a Greek god. It currently resides in the Louvre Museum in
Paris. "Archaic Torso of Apollo" is a sonnet with typical stanza and rhyme scheme but Rilke uses
vivid imagery and literal references to get his message to the reader. The title is straightforward and
automatically directs readers to what the poem is about. The two main patterns of the poem are
references to the missing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, when we look at statues (of people) the first thing we notice is the face and that is
what we base beauty on. However, when you remove the face you can look at other parts and see
how they have their own allure. Rilke starts off with 'we cannot know his legendary head', stating
how the head, the main focal point of a statue, is missing. The poem then goes 'and yet his torso is
still suffused with brilliance' because the torso is all that is left to look at and is still brilliant in itself.
The strongest point is 'which his gaze, now turned to low, gleams in all its power. Otherwise the
curved breast could not dazzle you so'. The torso (and breast) is now the focal point after time has
broken the perfect face which now has no gaze to turn on viewers. But now the breast, the
shoulders, and hips can demonstrate the careful craftsmanship of the marble. These individual
elements can now be looked at in awe because they are the big picture now. Rilke makes a pattern of
pointing out missing parts from the statue and that contributes to the idea that 'beauty can be found
in each element, because the spotlight is now turned on each part in

Apollo vs. Green Arrow
Apollo and Green Arrow/ Oliver Queen When I first learned about the Greek god Apollo in my
Classical Mythology class, he reminded me of Oliver Queen. Oliver Queen is a character from one
of my favorite television show called "Smallville". He inherited a big industrial empire from his
parents when they passed away. He was a playboy who did not care to give back to the society and
only did what pleases him. One day, when Oliver was out on his boat, he was pushed overboard into
the sea by an employee. After being marooned on an island, he learned to hunt and improved his
survival skills. He later found a small settlement on the island and saw that some of the islanders
were cruelly disposed of in a nearby well. It shocked him and he became ... Show more content on

ended. After that, Oliver seemed to rekindle with an on–and–off old flame Tess Mercer, who was
also Lex Luthor's, Oliver's enemy, ex–wife. She is also very cunning and self–perseverative. She
only cared for herself and fled when Oliver came into trouble. She later came back to be a good
friend and support system for the vigilante team. Oliver also had flings with Betsy Braddock and
Adrienne Frost. Betsy Braddock was noticed by Oliver because she had psychic abilities. Oliver
came across Adrienne Frost because she seemed to have telepathic abilities. ("Smallville Season 6 –

future. While their answers are ambiguous, the oracle or the priests who interpret them still seemed
to predict well enough. (Mayerson 124) Among the superheroes,

Apollo Vs Artemis Essay
Greek mythology is a subject that has fascinated humans for millennia, that has inspired numerous
books and movies alike. While the family tree of the Gods is a huge, and slightly confusing article
of notice, full of many characters, both monstrous and beatific, two siblings are worth noting more
so than others. Apollo and Artemis, twin siblings of the moon and sun, patron of archers, have been
a subject of fascination for historians and mythology fans alike. These siblings have been known as
both ruthless and fair on many occasions in Greek literature and are believed by some to be the most
influential characters of the Ancient Greece. While they have been viewed as equal in importance,

As stated earlier, Artemis became an eternal maiden, choosing to remain celibate, she was very
protective of her and her hunter's chastity. When men witnessed her naked, bathing, she would hear
their side of the story before striking them down, such was the tale of Sipriotes, who was a child and
accidently witnessed Artemis in the nude, being innocent she transformed him into a girl so she
would not have to kill him. However, when an adult hunter, Actaeon, witnessed her nudity, he
demanded that she be his wife and bear his children, Artemis responded by transforming him into a
deer, to be eaten by his dogs. Apollo was impatient in his dealings with humans; such as, when the
Queen Niobe of Delos bragged that she was greater than Leto, the twins' mother, because she had
sixteen children instead of two, Apollo took his golden bow and struck down all of her children and
incited the citizens to tear her apart. Another instance was when Apollo had a flute contest with a
satyr, with King Midas as the sole judge. Apollo was certain he would win, being the god of music,
but the satyr was declared the winner, causing Apollo to fly into a fit of rage; he flayed the goat alive
and cursed Midas with donkey

Apollo God Of The Sun
When you think of Apollo you mainly think of music, the Sun, and poetry, but little did you know
that there is more to this young god than you thought. Apollo is a son of Zeus and Leto, and is the
twin brother to Artemis the goddess of the hunt. Apollo does possess the power of music and poetry,
but he also is the god of plague and medicine. Now the Sun? Apollo is not the god of the Sun, but he
is given the description to be driving a chariot that leads the Sun around the world. Apollo is the son
of Zeus and Leto, brother to twin sister Artemis the goddess of the hunt. It has been said that the
birth of both Apollo and Artemis were born on the island of Delos. It is told that when Hera, the
queen of all the gods, found out Leto was pregnant with Apollo and Artemis she banished Leto from
any form of shelter undertake sun. It has been said that Zeus look pity on Leto and transformed her
into a quail to give birth to the twins, but since she couldn't find shelter, there was no luck. Leto had
taken nine days and nine nights of pain until the tenth day she gave birth to Apollo's sister, Artemis,
who later acted like a midwife to help give birth to Apollo. Myth says that he grew into adulthood in

Analysis Of ' Daphne And Apollo '
In "Daphne and Apollo", a section of The Metamorphoses (Book I: 438–472 – Book I: 553–567), a
young nymph named Daphne is put in quite the situation when one of Cupid's arrows strikes Apollo,
making him fall in love with her; and another arrow pierces her heart, resulting in her wanting
nothing to do with love or affection. Apollo is unaware of the fact that Daphne is unable to feel love
because of the piercing, so he continues to fall in love with her, trying to convince her to marry him.
She convinces her father to allow her to remain single for the time being, which was a big deal,
since women were typically married at a young age at this time. Regardless, Apollo continues to

In both stories, they were both 'stalked' by men and given basically no choice about what happened
to them. In both stories, nature plays a crucial role for women, representing transformation and
growth and providing a sense of everlasting security and protection, however the occurring events

was only viewed as protection, when it all actuality, it did nothing to help their situations. Nature is

When it comes to the incorporation of nature, it seems that it is used as a sense of security or

contributes to the idea that nature is not able to protect people from everything, just that it's a belief
in people's heads. Nature is a reoccurring theme, playing a crucial role for the women in both
stories, representing transformation and growth and providing a sense of everlasting security

Apollo And The Greek God
Among all the Greek, and later on Roman gods, none reached the notoriety of Apollo. He was the
most widely worshiped god, his character extending far out of Ancient Greece, with temples
dedicated to his name as far as Anatolia, Turkey, and Egypt. His influence spread through the
ancient world through the Oracle of Delphi, as he was known to protect mankind with evil, but also
as the god of light, music and dance, poetry, healing, medicine, plagues, divination, prophecy, and
truth, as well as the patron of archers. Apollo enjoyed a myriad of domains to his name. Helios and
Apollo are often used interchangeably as the Greek god of the Sun. However, Apollo's role as the
god of light or the god of the sun was not conventional until 500 BCE, and even the notion was
rejected since Helios was technically the Greek Sun God. In the following two millennia, especially
during the Renaissance, the Sun became strongly associated with Apollo.
As a specifically Greek god, Apollo was not firmly established until around 800 BCE, which
succeeded the development his figure underwent in the dark ages, from 1100 BCE through 900
BCE. In ancient Mycenaean records from the Bronze Age, Apollo is not mentioned, while other
central Greek gods, including Zeus and Athena are. The records do describe a god named Paiawon,
thought to be an early form of Apollo's epithet, "Paian," meaning healer. Speculation suggests
Apollo originally served as the protector of herdsmen and their flocks, through his lyre,

The Launch took place at Kennedy Space Center. The crew consisted of three men, James A. Lovell,
John L. Swigert, and Fred W. Haise. "Houston, we have a problem..." was the saying that leads to
the tragic event that took place on April 11, 1970. Months before the launch, the crew went through
many obstacles in order to prepare themselves for the mission. If one mistake was made, everything
could go wrong and the crew would be killed. NASA had the crew go through every situation
possible, no matter how hard in order for them to be prepared. If they didn't master it the first time,
they had to do it over and over till it was mastered. Once everything

A Description Of Apollo 11 : Apollo 11
Apollo 11–Rough Draft Apollo 11 was a very important event in history and it changed the world
forever. This event opened many new doors and it changed the relationship between nations for just
a few minutes. This launch gave the world hope and through four articles about this event one will
see the impact it had on the world. Through viewing four articles about this event it opens the
reader's eyes to see how different authors viewed the event, how they conveyed their ideas, and the
purpose of this mission. The purpose of "Man Takes First Steps on the Moon" by The Times of
London is to convey the events of the Apollo 11 mission and to communicate the excitement it
spread through the world. "The two astronauts opened the hatch of their lunar module at 3:39 A.M.
in preparation for Neil Armstrong's walk." The author presents the reader with exact information of
what took place on the moon and what the astronauts accomplished. Even though the article
describes the events that took place on the moon, back on earth the nations were celebrating, this
was a tremendous breakthrough not only for America, but for the world. All over the world different
political leaders were congratulating the Americans for their achievement in sending men to the
moon. The Prime Minister of Britain said, "The first feeling of all in Britain is that this very
dangerous part of the mission has been safely accomplished." President Saragat of Italy said, "May

Apollo Human Condition
Without a doubt, Apollo is greatly criticized in this play. He does Creusa wrong by raping her, and
further wrongs her by abandoning her. He conceals himself due to his guilt, and even when
confronted in his own temple, he remains silent. As Louise E. Matthaei puts it,
"Apollo is the mean seducer, the cheat; Apollo is the patcher–up, who wants to gloss over the
mischief he has done with a cheap remedy of comfort for his victims; Apollo is the coward, who
does not dare face his victim, but skulks behind his sister's skirts and sends her to make al the
explanations; Apollo is even, in one place, the cunning rascal, delighted with his cleverness and the
ingenuity of his little plot."

The allegory of the cave, created by Plato, helps illustrate the human condition in which humans a
scarcely able, or willing, to look past the veil of appearance to find lasting truths. This idea of
duality is also more generally explored by Euripides, though not entirely explicit. The Ion depicts
two orders of being, the human and the divine, which struggle to gain control over the tragic plot.
The central human characters are Ion, Creusa and Xuthos, with their divine counterparts being
Hermes, Athena and Apollo (though indirectly), and their communication, or lack there of, sets up
the tragic plot. When Creusa and Xuthos decide to travel to Delphi to speak with the oracle, it is
clear that the divine exists both within and separately from the human plane of existence, and that
this other world might have some other truths hidden from our world. Communication between
these two worlds results in a complex entanglement of human and divine. When Xuthos exits the
oracular shrine to meet Ion, we see that the omen from the priestess is both true, but subject of
misinterpretation. Ion points out by his careful questioning of Xuthos that though the priestess said
that his son would be the first person he would greet, it is also true that he is not his blood relative,
but instead a gift to him. Both the literal and the metaphorical reading of the prophecy are pointed

inside the space craft odyssey to filter out the carbon dioxide and filter in oxygen for them to breath.
This filter did work successfully and the carbon dioxide was filtrated into oxygen for the three

that on top of all the problems the three astronauts Jim, Jack and Fred had they were extremely
stressed and could not think clearly. It was hard for the astronauts to concentrate on fixing the
problem because they were so worried about if they were going to make it home alive or not. In
conclusion, this obstacle greatly complicates the plot and makes events difficult for the crew
members of the Apollo 13 and Nasa Ground Control.
The movie Apollo 13 follows the monomyth plotline accurately. The first major obstacle the Apollo
13 crew encounters was when the crew found out from the Nasa Ground Control that they had to go
all the way around the moon instead of just turning around. The first reason this obstacle
complicates the plot of the movie is that when they go around the three astronauts Jim, Jack and
Fred lose radio contact with the Nasa Ground Control. This means if the

Greek God Apollo Research Paper
Greek God Apollo Research Paper "I guess darkness serves a purpose: to show us that there is
redemption through chaos. I believe in that. I think that's the basis of Greek mythology", Brendan
Fraser once said about the idea of all Greek Gods and myths. The people of ancient Greece would
look up to various gods, depending on what they were seeking. Apollo's name translates to
"strength", as he displayed this trait throughout his lifetime and had to be emotionally and physically
stronger at times for the people of Ancient Greece. Apollo was a man of trust who excelled and
supported all of the fine arts of the Greek civilization such as music, art, and poetry (God Apollo).
One of the most underestimated traits of Apollo was his healing powers, in which he helped out
many Greeks in desperate times, like the Trojan War (Cartwright). The Greek God Apollo was the
most influential among Greek people because of his recognition for music, the truth, and healing
powers. Apollo was born on the Greek island of Delios, from his parents Zeus and Leto (Regula).
Zeus was the god of the Olympians who also controlled lightning and thunder, and Leto was the
goddess of motherhood (Atsma). Apollo was a god who had a clear idea of what was right from
wrong and lived with the idea of that the Greek society could live under peace and harmony and
follows the laws that were put into motion, especially after the Trojan War (The Story of Apollo).

Subject: The Audit of....
The following memo aims to outline the results of the audit of Apollo Shoes, give recommendations
to improve the company's operations, and provide justification for our qualified opinion.
For their accounts receivable confirmation as of December 31, 2017, Mall–Warts stated that they
had entered into involuntary bankruptcy on November 3, 2017. After having adjusted their balance
due for shoes that were wrongly shipped to them in the amount of $5,765,081.85, Mall–Wart had a
balance due of $14,784,144.03. Due to the unlikeliness that this amount is to be collected, we have
proposed that this amount be written off in full to bad debt expense. However, Larry Lancaster has
decided not to record this entry in hopes that Apollo Shoes will still be able to pay the amount in
full. When ignoring the adjustment for the wrongful sales, in which Larry believes Mall–Wart will
pay, Mall–Wart accounts for 40% of the company receivables. The fact that Mall–Wart has declared
bankruptcy is too material to ignore, and we are unable to give an unqualified opinion. We disagree
with Larry's analysis of the situation, and therefore have given the 2016 financial statements a
qualified opinion.
There are a few other matters, unrelated to the qualified opinion, that we believe should be made
aware to the audit committee. They are as

The Apollo Conspiracy
There's an organization called NASA, who's done a significant job of sticking to their story. They
say Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin landed on the Moon on July 20, 1969, and set foot on the
surface 6 hours later. This same organization claims there were 5 additional missions which
successfully landed on the Moon, and a suspected total of 12 people went for a walk there.
According to them, they spent $24 billion, which is more than $150 billion in inflation adjusted
dollars. Their Apollo program employed 400,000 people, supported by more than 20,000 companies
and research institutions.

Apollo's Development Of Apollo : Apollo And The Goddess Of...
Apollo was the son of Leto and Zeus and a twin brother to Artemis. In Apollo's story we learn that
Zeus was a mischievous guy. While he had his wife whose name was Hera he had a side women
who was Leto. Leto and Zeus messed around for a bit and Leto came out to be pregnant. When
Hera, the wife of Zeus, found out the Leto was pregnant she was infuriated and she immediately
forbade any place under the sun to allow her to have her child. She was so angry that Leto had
seduced her husband that she forbade her daughter Eileithyia (goddess of childbirth) to help her out
during labor. Zeus felt dejection for Leto and turned her into a quail so that she could be able to give
birth. While in Greece " she was wandering around desperately and aimlessly" (God. Info 2017)
because Hera forbade any place on earth to allow her to have her child. To Letos luck there was an
island near Mykonos were waves and wind had destroyed the island. So the island accepted Leto
and the birth of Artemis was not painful at all but when Apollo was going to be born Leto struggled
9 days and 9 nights to give birth to him. Artemis was the midwife to help Leto have Apollo. After
this Artemis became the new goddess of birth in place of Eileithyia.
Apollo had many different kinds of duties and powers. One of the best things he was known for was
for being the god of the sun. The ancient people believed that sunlight was associated with cleansing
so they also related that Apollo was the god of truth and

There are many gods and goddess in Greek Mythology. Greek Mythology is the study of myths, so
the god and goddess are not true. Apollo is one of the many gods in Greek Mythology. Apollo is the
son of Zeus and Titan Zeto and was born in Greek islands of Delos. Apollo had a twin sister
Artemis–goddess of the hunt. Apollo apparel was attractive to women. Apollo was beardless,
athletic, and had a youthful appearance. Apollo is the god of music, poetry, prophecy, and medicine.
He is also known as "the healer." Apollo was called the healer because he represents the healing
aspect of the medical arts. Apollo forename means "bright or pure" which explains why he is the
god of light. Apollo was very truthful and had a lot of integrity so he was granted the gift of
prophecy and oracles. Apollo was very truthful to his family and that makes him have the title "god
of the light" shows he cared about people and had a lot of integrity.
Apollo does not play a major role in the story "The Odyssey." However, he kills the captain of
Menelaus' ship. The wine in which Odysseus uses against Polyphemus. The wine was a gift from
Maron, a priest Apollo. Apollo stayed true to his title in "The Odyssey" because he was saw caring

The Trials Of Apollo Book Report
The Trials Of Apollo
The Trials Of Apollo, written by Rick Riordan, is a Greek Mythology book. Often when individuals
experience hardship they often seek to fix the problems that lay ahead of them. The topic given
brings Confusion in our lives. Apollo is extremely confused about what he needs to do to get the
Oracle and survive while doing it. When Apollo woke up to falling from the sky and then landing in
some garbage he experienced extreme confusion on why he was there and what he had to do to go
back home. Apollo then looks at himself and he got changed into a teenage boy. This illustrates that
Apollo has no idea where to turn or who to trust which proves that he is confused. Apollo then
decides that he needs to go to Camp Half Blood and then figure out what he needs to do after that.
Individuals who face confusion often seek to find closure to their problems because if said
individual didn't push past their problems they would constantly be stuck with their hardship
without getting over it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

when Neil Armstrong and Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin became the first humans to land on the moon, and
then shortly after is when Neil Armstrong became the first person to walk on the moon.
The goal of the Apollo missions was to safely land humans on the moon and then to get them back

Similarities Between Apollo And Aphrodite
Both Homeric hymns to Apollo and Aphrodite feature classic mythology that explains various
situations between the god and goddess and the mortals. In particular how each god and goddess
elude mortals into behavior that both favors each party and has negative consequences. Apollo and
Aphrodite have similarities and differences in which they manipulate the humans in the stories that
lead to very different outcomes. A similarity between the manipulation on Apollo's and Aphrodite's
part is that they each have a clear motive before their actions begin and some differences are that
they have very different intentions and methods of the manipulation.
A Similarity of both Apollo and Aphrodite manipulation is the revelations of the motives are
revealed before their actions take place. In the first Homeric Hymn to Aphrodite, the story describes
the beautiful, virgin goddess who falls in love with the mortal, Anchises. Aphrodite eludes the most
powerful Greek god Zeus and in retaliation, Zeus forces Aphrodite to fall in love with a mortal
which eventually leads to her falling in love with Anchises and have sex with him. Aphrodite
intentions are made clear before any actions take place and is described, "And when she saw him,
Aphrodite, lover of laughter, she loved him, and a terrifying desire seized her heart" (Aphrodite 87–
88). Comparing this hymn to the second Homeric Hymn to apollo, the story has similarities to the
story of Aphrodite. For example, Apollo also reveals his

In researching the space explorations Apollo missions, I found it very interesting and fun to learn
about what the motivation was at the time to drive them to put a man on the moon. During the
1950's and 1960's "scientific research was becoming a big business."(1) This meant that there was
some tension between scientist and those that would be working with NASA and the exploration of
the moon.
The main motivation was driven from the President John F. Kennedy. During this time there was a
struggle for power in the world. Russia was a large world power and President Kennedy wanted to
regain power and show the world that we were advanced and to be the first nation to put a human

Essay on Contrasting Apollo & Dionysus
Contrasting Apollo & Dionysus
In Greek mythology, Apollo and Dionysus are nearly opposites of one another, and as with many
opposites, life would not operate just quite right without both of them. They each played a specific
role for the Greeks. They had very different things associated with them.
Apollo was often associated with logic and the power of the mind. He was basically in charge of the
Work section of the people. Logic is something the
Greeks used often, and when they didn't, things often happened for the worst. He is also associated
with intellect. The followers of Apollo would consist of those who strongly believed in the things he
was thought to control. These ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some things attributed to Dionysus are the dithyrambs, or choral hymns, sung for him but the
people. This was how they praised him. Drama is also directly associated with him. Being the god of
wine and the god of fertility led to some very strange things in situations where Dionysus prevailed
over Apollo. Many drunken orgies took place during this time.
The Dionysion followers might be thought of as all the people who enjoyed wine, the people who
attended and enjoyed the Festival of Dionysus
(leading to perhaps all current people who enjoy the drama), and to those who prayed for fertility.
The Greeks also acknowledged the existence of Dionysus as much as they did the existence of
Apollo, so everyone who worshipped them dually would also be a follower. This means that
Dionysus probably had just as large a following as Apollo, of not more because of the social aspect
of life.
The status of Dionysus for religion is that the is the god of fertility, so the dithyrambs that were in
honor of Dionysus were also a way of praying for a good harvest or for many children. Like Osiris,
he was reborn after dying, and it is believed that these festivals may be linked to ceremonies that
took place in Egypt.
Most Greeks worshipped both Apollo and Dionysus. This acceptance of both their existences brings
about a balance of the two forces. It is

The Discovery Of The Apollo
When it comes to exploring new horizons there is always an inherent danger that comes with it.
Whether it was Christopher Columbus and his venture to the new world, Lewis and Clark and there
exploration of the American west, or the Astronauts who were the first to travel where no man had
gone before. All of these people accepted the risk that comes with the adventure they were
embarking on. The Apollo program was the world's most ambitious project ever taken on. When
John F. Kennedy proposed the idea of placing a man moon by the end of the 1960's this was an
extremely bold ultimatum too all of those involved in the space program. As we all know NASA
achieved the goal when Apollo 11 landed on the moon in 1969. After America had accomplished
this goal and beat the Soviet Union to the moon and then repeated the result on Apollo 12,
Americans began to question why there tax dollars were being used to fund something after the goal
had already been accomplished. And then came the near disaster of Apollo 13 that re–ignited
American interest in space travel. Apollo 13 was a successful failure, while it did not achieve its
goal of landing on the moon, it showed how good NASA's people as well as their space crafts were,
in that they were able to return the crew safely after such a catastrophic failure on the space craft,
which was the NASA's finest hour.

God of Olympians: Apollo
To be a prophet is to see the future with the same intention as God himself while being seen as the
one who speaks for Him. Apollo, a God of Olympians, is known as a God of Prophecy. As well as
being the God of Prophecy, he was known as the God of Poetry, Archery, Healing, Protection of the
Young, and Light. Apollo, also known as Apollon and in another case, Phoebus, is known to be one
of the most complex gods. Apollo plays many different roles in Greek Mythology which in turn
make the role of Apollo himself, one of the most important.
As the God of Prophecy, Apollo is seen as one who knows and views the same intentions willed by
God and is able to communicate them to others as they ask. When Apollo is seen in the role of God
of Light, he is known as Phoebus. Later on, Apollo then became associated with Helios, the God of
Sun, and became known as Apollo Helios. Under the role of God of Spiritual Healing, Apollo would
allow purification to those who have committed sins and immoral conduct such as murder. As for
being the God of Archery and Protection of the Young, he is known for carrying arrows and bows to
ward off evil. Apollo is the son of Zeus and Leto as well as the twin brother of Artemis. Apollo, also
known by the name Apollon, and Phoebus when seen as the God of Light, was described to be a

However, in 2008, the Mythbusters debunked this aspect of the Apollo Eleven conspiracy.
Mythbusters Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman proposed that the moon 's atmosphere is identical to

The absolute pinnacle of Greek idealism and realism, the Apollo Belvedere, is incredibly life–like,
looking more like an actual human being than a solid, immobile statue. Much like other Greek
sculptures of the past, the Apollo Belvedere is meant to represent the ideal form of masculinity, and
chooses the Greek god Apollo as the embodiment of these traits. The sculpture depicts Apollo,
aiming a bow at an unnamed foe, while still remaining incredibly beautiful, calm, and composed.

Apollo God
Sun god Apollo/his haikus are terrible/but he thinks they're great. Apollo is a unique god because he
acts the most human, is one of the most powerful gods, and has a terrible love life. Born on the
island of Delos, with help and assistance of his twin sister Artemis, Apollo is the god of several
things: the sun, archery, prophecy, music, poetry, and medicine, plague and disease. He glowed and
shimmered like the sun and at laurel leaves in his hair. He's also the patron of bachelors, so he's had
quite a few lovers (James). Apollo's the most human out of the Olympians. He acts on urges and
feelings like most people do. His origin story is where most of these feelings take root. As
mentioned briefly in the previous paragraph, Apollo was born on the island of Delos to the Titan
Leto and the king of the gods Zeus. Hera was furious when she found out that Leto was pregnant
with twins, so she told all the lands that were rooted to the earth that they would be cursed if they
sheltered Leto, and she held back her daughter Eileithyia, who's the goddess of childbirth, from
going and helping Leto in her labor. She was turned away again and again, and even chased by the
monster Python until she came to the floating island Delos. The island welcomed her since it had no
roots in the earth. She laid down and gave birth to Artemis, the goddess of the hunt and moon (and
several other things, but this isn't about her.). Artemis then acted as a midwife and helped her mother

Art Analysis : Apollo And Daphne
Part One: Apollo and Daphne, a Baroque sculpture, was chiseled by Bernini during the time of the
Catholic Reformation, or Counter–Reformation. The Catholic Reformation was when the Catholic
Church began a movement to gain a larger following of Catholicism and reclaim power. As a result,
church leaders (in this case Cardinal Borghese) commissioned works of art that had a sensory appeal
and could evoke a more emotional response by capturing the attention of its observer. For this
reason, Apollo and Daphne, a marble sculpture, engages the observer with its movement and
dynamic portrayal of human bodies. With its attention to details such as texture and near life–like
portrayal, Apollo and Daphne draws in the viewer just as the Catholic Reformation aimed to draw in
followers of the church.
Part Two:
O: Apollo and Daphne, sculpted by Bernini, is a detailed marble sculpture capturing the moment
when the God Apollo makes contact with Daphne, who is being transformed into a tree.
P: Important parts of the sculpture are Apollo's body, Daphne's body, the ground, a tree and its laurel
leaves, drapery, and Apollo's signature shoes. Specific parts of Apollo's body that are significant are
his facial expression, his right arm reaching behind him with his wrist flexed, his legs in a running
position, and his eyes. Likewise, essential parts of Daphne's body are her facial expression, her eyes,
her torso of bark, her fingers turning into branches and leaves, her toes forming into roots,

The Apollo 1 : The Disaster Of Apollo 1
Apollo 1 was a big disaster for NASA, and tragic for their mission of going to space. Many things
could have been prevented from the accident ever occurring, and no one would have died. The
disaster of Apollo 1 was the first accident for NASA, because of them not looking at each equipment
Apollo 1 was NASA first attempt at going to space. Three astronauts were set to take place. Apollo 1
was set to take off in December 1966, but that never happened(history nasa gov). 15 minutes before
the spaceship would lift off, the spaceship switched to internal power. The Americans started the
Apollo project, there were three in the spaceship breathing oxygen. Ground Control realized that all
their heart rates were going up. The spaceship pointed to a short in the technology, and later Roger
Chaffee yelled "It was a fire." Their spaceship had no cameras, but a camera was watching the
spaceships porthole. The operator saw the fire coming from the porthole, and he also saw Edwards
hand trying to open the hatch. The Men started to freak out about the fire, and started to grad the
hatch quickly but the hatch was strong. The hatch was not going to be easy to open, and would not
have helped them escaped. After the accident security was sent to the Complex 34(When
Technology Fails). They were sent to check the power switches, and to take pictures of what
happened. The reports said that even if they got the hatch open they still would not have escaped the
fire. Not long after the report of the fire, a call was made to the fire office. From log records, it gave
the idea that the fire contraption, and staff were sent. The specialist observing the test from the brick
house close to the cushion had just continued to the base of the umbilical pinnacle. The hatch was
almost impossible to undo due to it not being screwed on right(history nasa gov). Help was close to
being there, but the explosion made them not able to get there in time. They recorded that the
accident could have been avoided, and Nasa suspended the next project. Since the fire of Apollo 1
many changes were made to the next Apollo like, Stainless steel, and Making it harder for the

Apollo Goals

  • 1. Apollo Goals One of the primary goals of the Apollo program was to beat Russia to the Moon. Some of the other goals were establishing the technology to meet other national interests in space, achieving superiority in space for the United States, scientific exploration of the Moon, and developing man's capability to work in the lunar environment. In the first Apollo mission (Apollo 1), the astronauts were Virgil Grissom, Edward Higgins and Roger Chaffee. These men all passed away during a pre– flight test when a fire swept throughout the command module (CM) that they were in. This tragedy happened on January 27th, 1967. They were scheduled to launch on February 27th, 1967. The investigation of the fire and the never ending rework on the Apollo command modules ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Analytical Essay: The Oracle Of Apollo At Delphi The Oracle of Apollo at Delphi is shrouded in myth and mystery, but one thing is certain, their prophetic influence stretched far and wide and was detrimental in shaping Greece. Neither war nor boundary was determined without conferring the Delphic Oracle first. The Oracle of Apollo was held in high regard by the likes of "Plutarch, Plato, Aristotle, and Diodorus" (Broad 10). The Trojan War and Theban War were in part responses to the Oracle's forecasts (Fontenrose 4). The Delphic Oracle shaped the decision of Spartans and consulted the "Greek states at the time of the Persian War" (Fontenrose 6). For well over a millennium, devotees would continue to seek the Delphic Oracle's counsel. The Greek legacy is riddled with her prophecies. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The names "Pytho" and "Pythian" symbolized Apollo's victory over the creature (Scott 32). What happened next? According to the Homeric Hymn, Apollo set out to find men to manage his new temple. He found a ship of Cretan sailors; Apollo then turned himself into a dolphin and forced the ship to steer "off course"(Scott 32). Apollo brought the crew into port, unveiled his true identity and demanded the sailor's travel to Pytho (Scott 32). Once in Pytho they must build a sanctuary dedicated to Apollo (Scott 33). Upon reaching the infertile grounds of Pytho, the Cretan sailors were shocked (Scott 33). They questioned how they could survive in such treacherous and unforgiving terrain (Scott 33). Apollo answered them, explaining that support would be made possible by the gifts and donations "of all those who came to worship and consult his oracle" (Scott 33). The Homeric myth is only one of the many parables that explain Delphi's origin, but the record of the Oracle's prophecies at Delphi have been slightly more concrete. Polytheism was practiced in ancient Greece. Apollo, the god of music, light, and order, was the son of Zeus. "The gods were considered all powerful, all controlling and all knowing" (Scott 9). The Oracle of Apollo was the most steadfast and consistent prognosticator in all of Greece. People would traverse over long distances and in some cases wait for months on end just to seek advice from the sibyl (Scott 9). The questions ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Apollo 11 Apollo 11 From countdown to splashdown, Apollo 11 's mission was filled with some surprising twists and turns. It took a combination of luck, determination and guts for the crew of Michael Collins, Buzz Aldrin, and Neil Armstrong to get the Eagle to the surface of the moon with only 30 seconds of fuel remaining! Experience the moments leading up to the lunar landing with me. On the morning of July 16, 1969 a 60–ton Saturn 5 rocket was given a thorough inspection on launch pad 39–A at the Kennedy Space Center. On board, Four and half tons of fuel, and a spider– shaped spaceship covered with gold and silver foil. The goal of Apollo 11 was stated very simply. Perform manned lunar landing and return mission safely. Simply stated, but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Months before he blasted off, Buzz Aldrin lobbied very hard to be the first man on the Moon. The commander of this and all subsequent Apollo missions would be the first to leave the spaceship. Right now Aldrin 's job was to help his commander get out the door, and then fifteen minutes later Buzz Aldrin would become the second man on the Moon. Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin deployed some scientific experiments, collected 20 kilograms of rocks, and took hundreds of pictures of the lunar surface. Future crews would spend several days on the Moon. Armstrong and Aldrin spent 2 hours and 31 minutes. With their moonwalk behind them, all that was left for the astronauts to do was get some sleep, then blast off and link up with Mike Collins and the Command Module. Of course, nobody had ever blasted off from the surface of the Moon before, and if there was some kind of failure, there were very few options for two men who were now almost 400 thousand kilometers from Earth. Both astronauts had confidence in the spaceship that would take them from the surface of the Moon, and a successful docking with the command module was pretty much a sure bet. Buzz Aldrin had written the book on rendezvous in lunar orbit, so there was no one more qualified to execute that maneuver. But Aldrin 's confidence for success was shaken just moments before he got some much– needed rest. A breaker that if ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. An Essay About Apollo Flayed Apollo According to the Greek poet Hesiod, "Apollo is the son of the Olympian Zeus and Titan Leto who is the goddess of dark nights. Artemis is his twin sister, who is also an Olympian"(Hesiod). He is the god of sun, light, music, and prophecy. Besides, he is also the god for both medicine and healing. Apollo is associated with medicine and healing through his son, Asclepius. Yet, he could bring ill health and deadly plague (Houle 34). He is feared as he is able to bring ill health to mortals. Apollo is often shown in playing the lyre. According to "Favorite Greek Myths", "Apollo has won couple musical contests by playing his golden seven strings lyre, which is said to represent the seven planets" (Hyde 17). One time, Phyrgian satyr Marsayas challenges Apollo to a music contest. At the end, Satyr lost the contest and is flayed alive. The lyre that Apollo plays is invented by Hermes, the messenger of Zeus. One day, Apollo notices the beautiful musical instrument that Hermes carries and was fascinated in that. In "Ovid: love and transformation", it starts off by saying, "The very first love of Phoebus Apollo was Daphne, daughter of the river–god Penues" (Ovid). As a revenge, Eros decides to take his magic arrows and shoots it at Apollo's heart to make him falls in love with Daphne. After that, Eros pulls out another arrow and shoots it to Daphne. • 9. Analysis : Bust Of Apollo Within the Greek pantheon, Apollo is the god of medicine, music, art, poetry, sun, light, knowledge, oracles, and archery. When Rome adapted and slightly modified the Greek pantheon, his attributes changed little–the Romans did not alter his name. One example of this god can be found in the Denver Art Museum's collection. A sculpture titled Bust of Apollo, a Roman artifact made between 100 and 200 C.E. embodies this popular depiction faithfully. He is often represented akin to a kouros, holding the signature face and body unmarked by old age and a brow clear of worry, and the composition of sculptures of Apollo typically hold to the ideal proportions of Greek society despite its Roman origins. In this way, while this work is made in a later century than the peak of Greek society, it illustrates the Roman affection for such traditions. Bust of Apollo is a characteristic of Roman style as it is strongly influenced by Greek techniques, therefore displaying the connections between these two cultures and exemplifies naturalistic methods of sculptures. The museum placed this work in the Discovery Room on the 6th floor, approximately six to seven feet off the ground in a glass case. Although the work contains only a head, a neck, and a suggestion of shoulders, the presence of smooth skin and a relaxed brow exemplify the kouros style. The sculpture is crafted from a creamy, off–white marble but it is unknown if there are any traces of paint. Further, the sculpture measures ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Archaic Apollo Poem Poem Commentary; Archaic Torso of Apollo "Archaic Torso of Apollo" is a poem by Rainer Maria Rilke. Rilke was a Bohemian–Austrian poet and the poem has been translated from German to English. The poem's literal reference is to a statue named the Miletus Torso. The marble statue represents a male's torso with no head, arms, or legs and is suspected to be a depiction of a Greek god. It currently resides in the Louvre Museum in Paris. "Archaic Torso of Apollo" is a sonnet with typical stanza and rhyme scheme but Rilke uses vivid imagery and literal references to get his message to the reader. The title is straightforward and automatically directs readers to what the poem is about. The two main patterns of the poem are references to the missing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, when we look at statues (of people) the first thing we notice is the face and that is what we base beauty on. However, when you remove the face you can look at other parts and see how they have their own allure. Rilke starts off with 'we cannot know his legendary head', stating how the head, the main focal point of a statue, is missing. The poem then goes 'and yet his torso is still suffused with brilliance' because the torso is all that is left to look at and is still brilliant in itself. The strongest point is 'which his gaze, now turned to low, gleams in all its power. Otherwise the curved breast could not dazzle you so'. The torso (and breast) is now the focal point after time has broken the perfect face which now has no gaze to turn on viewers. But now the breast, the shoulders, and hips can demonstrate the careful craftsmanship of the marble. These individual elements can now be looked at in awe because they are the big picture now. Rilke makes a pattern of pointing out missing parts from the statue and that contributes to the idea that 'beauty can be found in each element, because the spotlight is now turned on each part in ... • 13. Apollo vs. Green Arrow Apollo and Green Arrow/ Oliver Queen When I first learned about the Greek god Apollo in my Classical Mythology class, he reminded me of Oliver Queen. Oliver Queen is a character from one of my favorite television show called "Smallville". He inherited a big industrial empire from his parents when they passed away. He was a playboy who did not care to give back to the society and only did what pleases him. One day, when Oliver was out on his boat, he was pushed overboard into the sea by an employee. After being marooned on an island, he learned to hunt and improved his survival skills. He later found a small settlement on the island and saw that some of the islanders were cruelly disposed of in a nearby well. It shocked him and he became ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They had differences that cannot be overcome and their relationship ended. After that, Oliver seemed to rekindle with an on–and–off old flame Tess Mercer, who was also Lex Luthor's, Oliver's enemy, ex–wife. She is also very cunning and self–perseverative. She only cared for herself and fled when Oliver came into trouble. She later came back to be a good friend and support system for the vigilante team. Oliver also had flings with Betsy Braddock and Adrienne Frost. Betsy Braddock was noticed by Oliver because she had psychic abilities. Oliver came across Adrienne Frost because she seemed to have telepathic abilities. Oliver's latest and last known relationship is with Chole Sullivan and they have a child together. While there are many similarities between Apollo and Oliver Queen, there are also several differences. • 15. Apollo Vs Artemis Essay Greek mythology is a subject that has fascinated humans for millennia, that has inspired numerous books and movies alike. While the family tree of the Gods is a huge, and slightly confusing article of notice, full of many characters, both monstrous and beatific, two siblings are worth noting more so than others. Apollo and Artemis, twin siblings of the moon and sun, patron of archers, have been a subject of fascination for historians and mythology fans alike. These siblings have been known as both ruthless and fair on many occasions in Greek literature and are believed by some to be the most influential characters of the Ancient Greece. As stated earlier, Artemis became an eternal maiden, choosing to remain celibate, she was very protective of her and her hunter's chastity. When men witnessed her naked, bathing, she would hear their side of the story before striking them down, such was the tale of Sipriotes, who was a child and accidently witnessed Artemis in the nude, being innocent she transformed him into a girl so she would not have to kill him. However, when an adult hunter, Actaeon, witnessed her nudity, he demanded that she be his wife and bear his children, Artemis responded by transforming him into a deer, to be eaten by his dogs. Apollo was impatient in his dealings with humans; such as, when the Queen Niobe of Delos bragged that she was greater than Leto, the twins' mother, because she had sixteen children instead of two, Apollo took his golden bow and struck down all of her children and incited the citizens to tear her apart. Another instance was when Apollo had a flute contest with a satyr, with King Midas as the sole judge. Apollo was certain he would win, being the god of music, but the satyr was declared the winner, causing Apollo to fly into a fit of rage; he flayed the goat alive and cursed Midas with donkey ... • 17. Apollo God Of The Sun When you think of Apollo you mainly think of music, the Sun, and poetry, but little did you know that there is more to this young god than you thought. Apollo is a son of Zeus and Leto, and is the twin brother to Artemis the goddess of the hunt. Apollo does possess the power of music and poetry, but he also is the god of plague and medicine. Now the Sun? Apollo is not the god of the Sun, but he is given the description to be driving a chariot that leads the Sun around the world. Apollo is the son of Zeus and Leto, brother to twin sister Artemis the goddess of the hunt. It has been said that the birth of both Apollo and Artemis were born on the island of Delos. It is told that when Hera, the queen of all the gods, found out Leto was pregnant with Apollo and Artemis she banished Leto from any form of shelter undertake sun. It has been said that Zeus look pity on Leto and transformed her into a quail to give birth to the twins, but since she couldn't find shelter, there was no luck. Leto had taken nine days and nine nights of pain until the tenth day she gave birth to Apollo's sister, Artemis, who later acted like a midwife to help give birth to Apollo. Analysis Of ' Daphne And Apollo ' In "Daphne and Apollo", a section of The Metamorphoses (Book I: 438–472 – Book I: 553–567), a young nymph named Daphne is put in quite the situation when one of Cupid's arrows strikes Apollo, making him fall in love with her; and another arrow pierces her heart, resulting in her wanting nothing to do with love or affection. Apollo is unaware of the fact that Daphne is unable to feel love because of the piercing, so he continues to fall in love with her, trying to convince her to marry him. She convinces her father to allow her to remain single for the time being, which was a big deal, since women were typically married at a young age at this time. In both stories, nature plays a crucial role for women, representing transformation and growth and providing a sense of everlasting security and protection, however the occurring events prove that nature is not necessarily a security blanket for the women, it adds to the idea that nature was only viewed as protection, when it all actuality, it did nothing to help their situations. Nature is definitely crucial to their transformations, whether it be a physical or emotional metamorphoses. When it comes to the incorporation of nature, it seems that it is used as a sense of security or protection, whether it be before the inflicted pain, or after. Daphne is transformed into a beautiful tree, for everlasting security and protection, as well as to avoid the feeling of love she is unable to feel. Prosperine has her everlasting flowers, which are destroyed after the rape occurs, which contributes to the idea that nature is not able to protect people from everything, just that it's a belief in people's heads. • 24. Apollo And The Greek God Among all the Greek, and later on Roman gods, none reached the notoriety of Apollo. He was the most widely worshiped god, his character extending far out of Ancient Greece, with temples dedicated to his name as far as Anatolia, Turkey, and Egypt. His influence spread through the ancient world through the Oracle of Delphi, as he was known to protect mankind with evil, but also as the god of light, music and dance, poetry, healing, medicine, plagues, divination, prophecy, and truth, as well as the patron of archers. Apollo enjoyed a myriad of domains to his name. Helios and Apollo are often used interchangeably as the Greek god of the Sun. However, Apollo's role as the god of light or the god of the sun was not conventional until 500 BCE, and even the notion was rejected since Helios was technically the Greek Sun God. In the following two millennia, especially during the Renaissance, the Sun became strongly associated with Apollo. As a specifically Greek god, Apollo was not firmly established until around 800 BCE, which succeeded the development his figure underwent in the dark ages, from 1100 BCE through 900 BCE. In ancient Mycenaean records from the Bronze Age, Apollo is not mentioned, while other central Greek gods, including Zeus and Athena are. The records do describe a god named Paiawon, thought to be an early form of Apollo's epithet, "Paian," meaning healer. Speculation suggests Apollo originally served as the protector of herdsmen and their flocks, through his lyre, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He conceals himself due to his guilt, and even when confronted in his own temple, he remains silent. As Louise E. Matthaei puts it, "Apollo is the mean seducer, the cheat; Apollo is the patcher–up, who wants to gloss over the mischief he has done with a cheap remedy of comfort for his victims; Apollo is the coward, who does not dare face his victim, but skulks behind his sister's skirts and sends her to make al the explanations; Apollo is even, in one place, the cunning rascal, delighted with his cleverness and the ingenuity of his little plot." The allegory of the cave, created by Plato, helps illustrate the human condition in which humans a scarcely able, or willing, to look past the veil of appearance to find lasting truths. This idea of duality is also more generally explored by Euripides, though not entirely explicit. The Ion depicts two orders of being, the human and the divine, which struggle to gain control over the tragic plot. The central human characters are Ion, Creusa and Xuthos, with their divine counterparts being Hermes, Athena and Apollo (though indirectly), and their communication, or lack there of, sets up the tragic plot. When Creusa and Xuthos decide to travel to Delphi to speak with the oracle, it is clear that the divine exists both within and separately from the human plane of existence, and that this other world might have some other truths hidden from our world. Communication between these two worlds results in a complex entanglement of human and divine. When Xuthos exits the oracular shrine to meet Ion, we see that the omen from the priestess is both true, but subject of misinterpretation. Ion points out by his careful questioning of Xuthos that though the priestess said that his son would be the first person he would greet, it is also true that he is not his blood relative, but instead a gift to him. I think that's the basis of Greek mythology", Brendan Fraser once said about the idea of all Greek Gods and myths. The people of ancient Greece would look up to various gods, depending on what they were seeking. Apollo's name translates to "strength", as he displayed this trait throughout his lifetime and had to be emotionally and physically stronger at times for the people of Ancient Greece. Apollo was a man of trust who excelled and supported all of the fine arts of the Greek civilization such as music, art, and poetry (God Apollo). One of the most underestimated traits of Apollo was his healing powers, in which he helped out many Greeks in desperate times, like the Trojan War (Cartwright). The Greek God Apollo was the most influential among Greek people because of his recognition for music, the truth, and healing powers. Apollo was born on the Greek island of Delios, from his parents Zeus and Leto (Regula). Zeus was the god of the Olympians who also controlled lightning and thunder, and Leto was the goddess of motherhood (Atsma). Apollo was a god who had a clear idea of what was right from wrong and lived with the idea of that the Greek society could live under peace and harmony and follows the laws that were put into motion, especially after the Trojan War (The Story of Apollo). For their accounts receivable confirmation as of December 31, 2017, Mall–Warts stated that they had entered into involuntary bankruptcy on November 3, 2017. After having adjusted their balance due for shoes that were wrongly shipped to them in the amount of $5,765,081.85, Mall–Wart had a balance due of $14,784,144.03. The fact that Mall–Wart has declared bankruptcy is too material to ignore, and we are unable to give an unqualified opinion. Apollo and Aphrodite have similarities and differences in which they manipulate the humans in the stories that lead to very different outcomes. A similarity between the manipulation on Apollo's and Aphrodite's part is that they each have a clear motive before their actions begin and some differences are that they have very different intentions and methods of the manipulation. A Similarity of both Apollo and Aphrodite manipulation is the revelations of the motives are revealed before their actions take place. In the first Homeric Hymn to Aphrodite, the story describes the beautiful, virgin goddess who falls in love with the mortal, Anchises. Aphrodite eludes the most powerful Greek god Zeus and in retaliation, Zeus forces Aphrodite to fall in love with a mortal which eventually leads to her falling in love with Anchises and have sex with him. Aphrodite intentions are made clear before any actions take place and is described, "And when she saw him, Aphrodite, lover of laughter, she loved him, and a terrifying desire seized her heart" (Aphrodite 87– 88). Comparing this hymn to the second Homeric Hymn to apollo, the story has similarities to the story of Aphrodite. For example, Apollo also reveals his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 60. Apollo Motivation In researching the space explorations Apollo missions, I found it very interesting and fun to learn about what the motivation was at the time to drive them to put a man on the moon. During the 1950's and 1960's "scientific research was becoming a big business."(1) This meant that there was some tension between scientist and those that would be working with NASA and the exploration of the moon. The main motivation was driven from the President John F. Kennedy. During this time there was a struggle for power in the world. Russia was a large world power and President Kennedy wanted to regain power and show the world that we were advanced and to be the first nation to put a human being on the moon. • 62. Essay on Contrasting Apollo & Dionysus Contrasting Apollo & Dionysus In Greek mythology, Apollo and Dionysus are nearly opposites of one another, and as with many opposites, life would not operate just quite right without both of them. They each played a specific role for the Greeks. They had very different things associated with them. Apollo was often associated with logic and the power of the mind. He was basically in charge of the Work section of the people. Logic is something the Greeks used often, and when they didn't, things often happened for the worst. He is also associated with intellect. The followers of Apollo would consist of those who strongly believed in the things he was thought to control. These ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some things attributed to Dionysus are the dithyrambs, or choral hymns, sung for him but the people. This was how they praised him. Drama is also directly associated with him. Being the god of wine and the god of fertility led to some very strange things in situations where Dionysus prevailed over Apollo. Many drunken orgies took place during this time. The Dionysion followers might be thought of as all the people who enjoyed wine, the people who attended and enjoyed the Festival of Dionysus (leading to perhaps all current people who enjoy the drama), and to those who prayed for fertility. The Greeks also acknowledged the existence of Dionysus as much as they did the existence of Apollo, so everyone who worshipped them dually would also be a follower. This means that Dionysus probably had just as large a following as Apollo, of not more because of the social aspect of life. The status of Dionysus for religion is that the is the god of fertility, so the dithyrambs that were in honor of Dionysus were also a way of praying for a good harvest or for many children. Like Osiris, he was reborn after dying, and it is believed that these festivals may be linked to ceremonies that took place in Egypt. Most Greeks worshipped both Apollo and Dionysus. This acceptance of both their existences brings about a balance of the two forces. It is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 64. The Discovery Of The Apollo When it comes to exploring new horizons there is always an inherent danger that comes with it. Whether it was Christopher Columbus and his venture to the new world, Lewis and Clark and there exploration of the American west, or the Astronauts who were the first to travel where no man had gone before. All of these people accepted the risk that comes with the adventure they were embarking on. The Apollo program was the world's most ambitious project ever taken on. When John F. Kennedy proposed the idea of placing a man moon by the end of the 1960's this was an extremely bold ultimatum too all of those involved in the space program. As we all know NASA achieved the goal when Apollo 11 landed on the moon in 1969. After America had accomplished this goal and beat the Soviet Union to the moon and then repeated the result on Apollo 12, Americans began to question why there tax dollars were being used to fund something after the goal had already been accomplished. And then came the near disaster of Apollo 13 that re–ignited American interest in space travel. Apollo 13 was a successful failure, while it did not achieve its goal of landing on the moon, it showed how good NASA's people as well as their space crafts were, in that they were able to return the crew safely after such a catastrophic failure on the space craft, which was the NASA's finest hour. Pre–Launch Apollo 13 was set to launch on April 11, 1970 at 1:13 pm or 13:13 in military time. The mission was to land and explore ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 66. Apollo Greek God Research Paper God of Olympians: Apollo To be a prophet is to see the future with the same intention as God himself while being seen as the one who speaks for Him. Apollo, a God of Olympians, is known as a God of Prophecy. As well as being the God of Prophecy, he was known as the God of Poetry, Archery, Healing, Protection of the Young, and Light. Apollo, also known as Apollon and in another case, Phoebus, is known to be one of the most complex gods. Apollo plays many different roles in Greek Mythology which in turn make the role of Apollo himself, one of the most important. As the God of Prophecy, Apollo is seen as one who knows and views the same intentions willed by God and is able to communicate them to others as they ask. When Apollo is seen in the role of God of Light, he is known as Phoebus. Later on, Apollo then became associated with Helios, the God of Sun, and became known as Apollo Helios. Under the role of God of Spiritual Healing, Apollo would allow purification to those who have committed sins and immoral conduct such as murder. As for being the God of Archery and Protection of the Young, he is known for carrying arrows and bows to ward off evil. Apollo is the son of Zeus and Leto as well as the twin brother of Artemis. Apollo, also known by the name Apollon, and Phoebus when seen as the God of Light, was described to be a very handsome, young man with long hair. Apollo is said to be present with a wreath on his head, bows and arrows, a raven, which is a sacred animal of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 68. Apollo Twelve Of The Apollo Ben McCoy Mrs. Jugan College Writing 9 February 2015 Apollo Eleven Despite clear photographs, realistic videos, and government documentation, twenty percent of Americans believe the Apollo Eleven moon landing was a hoax. On July 20th, 1969, Apollo Eleven became the first manned mission to land on the moon. Several photographs were taken of Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin exiting the Lunar Module. However, many Americans do not believe this to be true. They claim that the US government faked the landing and that the photographs were shot in a movie studio. conspiracy theorists criticize the picture of the waving American flag. since the moon has no atmosphere, there cannot be any air to blow the flag around. However, in 2008, the Mythbusters debunked this aspect of the Apollo Eleven conspiracy. Mythbusters Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman proposed that the moon 's atmosphere is identical to a vacuum chamber. They then took a replica flag to NASA headquarters. NASA headquarters had access to a large vacuum chamber which the Mythbusters placed the flag in. To conspiracy theorists shock, the flag began to wave back and forth as if the wind was blowing it. Another photograph that conspiracy theorists love to criticize is the picture of one astronaut in the reflection of the other astronaut's space helmet. The suspicious thing about this picture is that neither astronaut is holding a camera, so who took the photograph? The answer to this question is embarrassing simple. According ... • 70. Apollo Belvedere Gender The absolute pinnacle of Greek idealism and realism, the Apollo Belvedere, is incredibly life–like, looking more like an actual human being than a solid, immobile statue. Much like other Greek sculptures of the past, the Apollo Belvedere is meant to represent the ideal form of masculinity, and chooses the Greek god Apollo as the embodiment of these traits. The sculpture depicts Apollo, aiming a bow at an unnamed foe, while still remaining incredibly beautiful, calm, and composed. The figure embodies what the Greek people felt a Greek should be, poised no matter the circumstances, while still maintaining a level of grace unattainable for those unlucky enough to find themselves not being Greek. Whereas the Farnese Hercules represented an almost ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 74. Apollo God Sun god Apollo/his haikus are terrible/but he thinks they're great. Apollo is a unique god because he acts the most human, is one of the most powerful gods, and has a terrible love life. Born on the island of Delos, with help and assistance of his twin sister Artemis, Apollo is the god of several things: the sun, archery, prophecy, music, poetry, and medicine, plague and disease. He glowed and shimmered like the sun and at laurel leaves in his hair. He's also the patron of bachelors, so he's had quite a few lovers (James). Apollo's the most human out of the Olympians. He acts on urges and feelings like most people do. His origin story is where most of these feelings take root. As mentioned briefly in the previous paragraph, Apollo was born on the island of Delos to the Titan Leto and the king of the gods Zeus. Hera was furious when she found out that Leto was pregnant with twins, so she told all the lands that were rooted to the earth that they would be cursed if they sheltered Leto, and she held back her daughter Eileithyia, who's the goddess of childbirth, from going and helping Leto in her labor. She was turned away again and again, and even chased by the monster Python until she came to the floating island Delos. The island welcomed her since it had no roots in the earth. She laid down and gave birth to Artemis, the goddess of the hunt and moon (and several other things, but this isn't about her.). Artemis then acted as a midwife and helped her mother give birth to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 76. Art Analysis : Apollo And Daphne Part One: Apollo and Daphne, a Baroque sculpture, was chiseled by Bernini during the time of the Catholic Reformation, or Counter–Reformation. The Catholic Reformation was when the Catholic Church began a movement to gain a larger following of Catholicism and reclaim power. As a result, church leaders (in this case Cardinal Borghese) commissioned works of art that had a sensory appeal and could evoke a more emotional response by capturing the attention of its observer. For this reason, Apollo and Daphne, a marble sculpture, engages the observer with its movement and dynamic portrayal of human bodies. With its attention to details such as texture and near life–like portrayal, Apollo and Daphne draws in the viewer just as the Catholic Reformation aimed to draw in followers of the church. Part Two: O: Apollo and Daphne, sculpted by Bernini, is a detailed marble sculpture capturing the moment when the God Apollo makes contact with Daphne, who is being transformed into a tree. P: Important parts of the sculpture are Apollo's body, Daphne's body, the ground, a tree and its laurel leaves, drapery, and Apollo's signature shoes. Specific parts of Apollo's body that are significant are his facial expression, his right arm reaching behind him with his wrist flexed, his legs in a running position, and his eyes. Likewise, essential parts of Daphne's body are her facial expression, her eyes, her torso of bark, her fingers turning into branches and leaves, her toes forming into roots, ... • 78. The Apollo 1 : The Disaster Of Apollo 1 Apollo 1 was a big disaster for NASA, and tragic for their mission of going to space. Many things could have been prevented from the accident ever occurring, and no one would have died. The disaster of Apollo 1 was the first accident for NASA, because of them not looking at each equipment Apollo 1 was NASA first attempt at going to space. Three astronauts were set to take place. Apollo 1 was set to take off in December 1966, but that never happened(history nasa gov). 15 minutes before the spaceship would lift off, the spaceship switched to internal power. The Americans started the Apollo project, there were three in the spaceship breathing oxygen. Ground Control realized that all their heart rates were going up. The spaceship pointed to a short in the technology, and later Roger Chaffee yelled "It was a fire." Their spaceship had no cameras, but a camera was watching the spaceships porthole. The operator saw the fire coming from the porthole, and he also saw Edwards hand trying to open the hatch. The Men started to freak out about the fire, and started to grad the hatch quickly but the hatch was strong. The hatch was not going to be easy to open, and would not have helped them escaped. After the accident security was sent to the Complex 34(When Technology Fails). They were sent to check the power switches, and to take pictures of what happened. The reports said that even if they got the hatch open they still would not have escaped the fire. Not long after the report of the fire, a call was made to the fire office. From log records, it gave the idea that the fire contraption, and staff were sent. The specialist observing the test from the brick house close to the cushion had just continued to the base of the umbilical pinnacle. The hatch was almost impossible to undo due to it not being screwed on right(history nasa gov). Help was close to being there, but the explosion made them not able to get there in time. They recorded that the accident could have been avoided, and Nasa suspended the next project. Since the fire of Apollo 1 many changes were made to the next Apollo like, Stainless steel, and Making it harder for the spaceship to catch on fire again. While they were waiting for pictures, and a full ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
