How Parachutes Were Used During WWI
How Parachutes were used during the war? Parachutes proved capable for more than entertainment
when they began to apply them during the First World War. During the First World War parachutes
were a valuable utility that was used to save balloonists observing during the war that had serious
problems with the balloon. Parachutes were mostly just used for balloonists since Americans
decided that if they gave parachutes to pilots, that they would jump out when unnecessary, and leave
the aircraft to be destroyed. But, only after realizing "that pilots were difficult to train and far more
valuable than aircraft" did they start to allow their pilots to begin wearing the guardian angels that
saved them from horrendous deaths. Parachutes obtained another

What Does The Parachute Symbolize In Lord Of The Flies
Lord of the Flies is one the most controversial novels ever written. It shows that people are evil by
human nature. The story displays this on different levels: literal and symbolic. In Lord of the Flies,
the parachute functions as a turning point in the story. It indirectly causes the death of Simon and it
supports the assumption that there is a beast on the island. The parachute foreshadows death,
symbolizes fear and reminds the boys about the existence of the adult world. To begin with, the
encounter with the parachutist foreshadows and symbolizes death. First of all, a suggestion could be
made that the parachute could've prevented them from being rescued. After the encounter with the
parachutist, the boys became more cautious and afraid.

Parachute Field Artillery Battalion: The Battle Of Bastogne
SIEGE OF BASTOGNE
The 463rd Parachute Field Artillery Battalion organized 21 February 1944 was Comprised of C and
D batteries from the 463rd Parachute Field Artillery Battalion, 82nd Airborne Division. Later
reflagged under 101st DIVARTY. Commanded by Major Hugh Neal (Hesler, n.d.) The 463rd
Battalion had a key role and contributed to the success of the 101st at the Battle of Bastogne.
Bastogne a small town in the Ardennes mountains of Belgium, Germany was the sight of fierce and
strategically vital battle between German and American forces. All the roads in the Ardennes
mountains met at the town of Bastogne. Making this key piece of terrain to both the German and
American forces. Also known as the siege of Bastogne this battle ... Show more content on

With the American and German infantry both in defensive positions, a battle of artillery began. The
463rd with only 16 75mm Howitzers tasked with covering a sector 360– degrees extending out over
eight kilometers. After three brutal days of fighting the German commander feeling the desperation
of the Americans, sent the terms of surrender to General McAuliffe the commander of 101st
Airborne Division, replied simply with "NUTS". The first four days of the operation, Major Neal
and his Howitzers fired over 13,000 rounds. Credited with a disputed number of enemy tanks
destroyed. Anticipating an attack from the Germans after General McAuliffe's goading response to
the terms of surrender, Major Neal began requesting much needed ammunition and rations for his
men. On 23 December severed from Allied resupply routes multiple C–47 transport planes dropped
ammunition and rations for the men of the 463rd. This resupply is the decisive factor to the
American victory at Bastogne. 25 December the German Offensive begins. With orders from
General McAuliffe to hold Bastogne at all costs Major Neal gave his guidance to repel the attack or
Die in place. Sergeant Joseph Rogan and Corporal Bryan Restor Forward Observers with the 463rd
occupied an observation post 1000 meters beyond the forward line of own troops. In the fallowing
days the two men would be responsible for spotting enemy tank movements and repelling enemy
assaulting units utilizing indirect fires. The two men called an unknown number of fire missions,
resulting in over 8,000 rounds fired and a disputed number of enemy tanks destroyed. Sergeant
Rogan received a Silver Star for his bravery and valor during the German

Bloody Sunday Essay
Bloody Sunday The events that took place on Bloody Sunday, 30th January 1972 have been
discussed frequently and certain aspects of the event highly debated. The events of the particular day
were of significant influence in further procedures in N. Ireland an on other related events. The
event began after an illegal march took place in the centre of Derry, N. Ireland; the police and
government banned the march as it was thought it would provoke violence. The march was lead by
Catholic supporters who were demonstrating for Catholic rights, the Protestant–biased government
and the internment of Catholics. As ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was thought by some that the IRA wanted a major gun battle, although others thought that if
similar events to those that took place in Magilligan, London would be shamed and therefore it
would seem that the British paratroopers would want to hold their fire against the Catholic
demonstrators. Another stance is that the Catholics were simply holding another peaceful protest.
About a week before Bloody Sunday, a two hour gunfight to place at Forkhill in County Armagh
between British troops and the IRA. About 1000 shots were fired. Because of all the violence of the
previous weeks, which was blamed on the IRA, the Protestant unionists felt that a tougher approach
must be made to stop further violence from occurring. After Bloody Sunday had taken place, the
question of who was to blame and more importunately for some, who had fired the first shot.
Different accounts of the day can give us an idea of what happened, although the evidence is far
from conclusive. The official statement released by the army and approved by Lieutenant General
Sir Harry Tuzo stated that, ¡¥The paratroopers came under nail bomb attack and a fusillade of fifty
to eighty rounds.¡¦ Although the statement simply offers the Paratroopers version of what happened,
it simply cannot be trusted as it is undoubtedly

Operation Market Garden Battle Analysis
Battle Analysis: Lesson learned Operation Market Garden was the biggest airborne operation in
history. It was a real attempt to use airborne in a strategic role in Europe. Operation Market–Garden
was unsuccessful Allied offensive that launched on 17 September 1944. The execution of the
operation consisted of two sub–operations. An airborne forces operation, code named Market, was
to seize, and secure key bridges along the Rhine river to facilitate rapid movement for British
ground forces. A ground forces operation, code named Garden, was to link up with airborne forces
at the north of Arnhem. British General Bernard Montgomery was the brain behind Operation
Market–Garden. He wanted to by–pass the Siegfried Line, German massive line of defense, by
crossing the Rhine, then into the industrial area in Northern Germany and then onto Berlin to end
the war. Allied offensive was the largest airborne operation up to that date. It consisted of 1,545
troop carriers, 478 gliders, 3,500 glider men and 16,500 paratroopers (Fox, 1994, p.1). the initial
phase of airborne forces operation was a success, however British paratroopers failed to secure the
key bridge of Arnhem. The ground forces that were supposed to link up with airborne forces, faced
fierce attacks by 88mm guns and Panzerfausts. The operation lasted nine day, in which Allied forces
fought the German forces in and around the city of Arnhem, Nijmegen, and Eindhoven. Allied
ground forces failed to advance and support the

Different Historical Interpretations of Bloody Sunday
On January 30th 1972, civil rights activists were involved in a protest march against internment
through Londonderry. British paratroopers, who were deployed on the streets, shot and killed 13 of
the marchers and wounded others. Many people have different views on what happened and why.
The main conflicting views are those of the paratroopers and their supporters and the views of the
marchers and the friends and family of those killed. Source A is a newspaper report form the Daily
Mail in September 1999. It is a report on new evidence released from the second enquiry into
Bloody Sunday, led by Lord Saville. The headline reads "PARAS IN ... Show more content on

However, this would be welcomed by the marchers and families of those killed, as they have always
insisted that those killed were innocent victims of British paratroopers. They were greatly angered at
the findings of the Widgery enquiry and believed that it was a whitewash by the British government.
This new evidence presents a new chance for those who they believe are murderers to be put on
trial. Another change, which discredits the original evidence, is that "forensic scientist Dr. John
Martin, who gave evidence to the Widgery hearing that Mr. Wray had been handling guns or
explosives, has reversed his opinion". This is bad for the Paratroopers side of the story, but could
suggest that Dr. Martin had been under pressure to support the soldiers in the enquiry, as their story
was based on the protestors firing guns at them.
Source B is another newspaper report, from the Guardian. The headline reads "BLOODY SUNDAY
REVELATION. This backs up what we have been saying all these years: the victims were
innocent." This immediately indicated that the writer of the article supports the view of the
protesters and the families of those killed. This also shows that the article may be biased. The article
also does not include the opinion of the Paratroopers or their supporters on the

NASA Budget Analysis
Using the NASA budget provided and my job of using the best materials and keeping the expenses
low for a design for a lander, I finally came down to a design. My design choices include a
parachute of 100 m. This includes having a surface area large enough that it can produce air friction.
A safety cage of a cubic capsule in where the egg has four surfaced sides in which it can land on.
Also , includes a crumple zone that has rigid lander legs .This will give a medium rigidity where it
can withstand the impact of the force acting against it but doesn't stay rigid in where the legs cannot
be used as a crumple zone . This design can offer a safe landing on Mars and support the things
inside it in a safe and compact condition. Using ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The safety has to have a capsule that keeps everything secure inside it safe in the time of impact.
This is the reason on to why I chose a cubic capsule because, I know that in the area inside there
would be an even amount of space and have an equal amount of space , not only that but as the
space lander lands it will be easier for the object to land with the parachute with a shape that has
even surfaces on four sides in case if it lands on either sides of the surfaces .The object that I chose
to use for the safety capsule is the aluminum alloy . I chose this material because not only was the
weight low but also the cost was at a medium . Although, we know that the tensile strength is only at
300 we know that if more air friction is added to the space lander it is going to have less force
applied to it as the falling is happening meaning the strength of the tensile is okay to not be too rigid
. The price of the material is also at a very cheap price we know that NASA " is to cut cost , mass ,
and risk " This is matching characteristics and with the low–cost of the other products included in
the space lander having a medium cost is not going to have a large effect on the total

The Consequences Of The Falling Of A Parachute
The falling of a parachute represents something much deeper then the written text. The pulling and
slacking of the parachutes strings shows how basic responsibilities may take priority over original
thought and pull actions in different directions. The idea of being an adult comes with many
challenges and commitments that need to be regulated. This includes balancing work, play, and a
family. Being stranded, these young boys do not have the norms of society, changing and molding
them to be adults. This lack of responsibility and actual leadership gives them a false sense of
adulthood, and what they perceive to be the freedom of age. Having responsibilities can give a
perception that adulthood is near because most children are taught that having

The factors that affect the motion of a falling object
Scientific Knowledge
When an object falls, many forces are acted upon it: gravity, friction, air resistance and, if in the
water, up thrust. When an object starts to fall, gravity over powers air resistance, however, as an
object starts to reach terminal velocity (its maximum speed) the opposite forces start to even out
until they are equal. Some people believe that if the forces are balanced then the object has stopped
moving, meanwhile they could also just be moving at a constant speed (its terminal velocity). All
free–falling objects accelerate at the same speed no matter what their mass is (9.8m/s²).
There are two calculations you need for this investigation, no matter which ... Show more content on
Helpwriting.net ...
This is because the weight increases as the cube of the size of an object, but the air resistance (drag)
only increases as the square of the size, so the bigger the object is, the faster it will fall (or to be
more precise, it has a higher terminal velocity.)
The surface area can affect the motion of the falling object because it is has more air resistance
pushing against it. Because there is more air resistance pushing against a larger object, it will fall so
because it is making the downward force (gravity) weaker since there is now a larger force
counteracting that first force. An object with a larger surface area will fall slower (have a smaller
velocity) because it means there is a large area for air to come into contact with to produce that
counteracting force called air resistance.
Another factor that can affect the motion of a falling object is the viscosity of the liquid that it is
falling through. Viscosity of liquid means how thick the liquid is. The higher the viscosity of the
liquid, the more the liquid resists the object which is falling through it. This means that it will take a
longer amount of time for the object to fall; meaning the velocity of the object will be very small.
A further factor that can affect the motion of a falling object is the height from which the object is
dropped from. Obviously, if an object is dropped from a greater height, it will take longer to reach
the ground than the same object to reach the

Flight 305 Research Paper
On November 24, 1971, a passenger like any other boarded Northwest Orient Airlines Flight 305.
The man known as D.B. Cooper, hijacked the plane with a ransom note that demanded money and
parachutes, when he got the money he jumped off the plane, never to be seen again. Many have
wondered how he succeeded the heist and if he even survived the jump.
Along with D.B. Cooper, 36 other passengers boarded the Boeing 727, that was headed from
Portland to Seattle. Soon after taking off, Cooper handed the flight attendant a note. When she
looked at the note it read, "I have a bomb in my briefcase. I will use it if necessary. I want you to sit
next to me. You are being hijacked." He then showed a glimpse of wires and red sticks in his brief
case. Cooper ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When receiving the parachutes he refused the instructions on how to use them. This concluded that
he probably had used parachutes before. Out of the parachutes he received he decided to use the
non–steerable military parachute. Tom Kaye of Citizen Sleuths reports on why this would have been
a good choice, "The military chute could better withstand the exit speed of the plane." It is believed
that Cooper jumped out of the plane above Tacoma, Washington. Prior to jumping, he told the flight
attendant to join the crew in the cockpit. Shortly after, a warning light indicated the rear door had
been opened. The crew assumed that he had jumped at this point, which was over Washington.
According to former Army Trooper Gregory Hall, D.B. Cooper made a diversion that was so
successful that people have been searching in the wrong area ever since that night. Instead of
immediately jumping out, Cooper would have waited and jumped out later when they already
thought he was gone. This distraction would've been the perfect attempt to fool the FBI in its
investigation. It seems to be no coincidence that D.B. Cooper ended up on a Boeing 727. The tie left
behind on the plane showed that he could've been a worker for the company. According to a group
of scientists selected by federal officials in Seattle, "A new analysis of the tie turned up particles of
cerium, strontium sulfide, and pure titanium." The particles found were mainly used in the
manufacture of certain aircrafts at the time. Tom Kaye of Citizen Sleuths, said the particles indicate
Cooper may have worked in one of the rare industries where they were used. Kaye also said those
substances were used in one of Boeing's plane that Cooper could've been a manger or engineer at. In
addition to the theory that Cooper's landing zone was around Reno, two letters showed up at the
Reno newspapers. A few days

Investigating a Factor that Affects the Rate of Decent of a Parachute
Aim– To investigate one factor that affects the rate of decent of a
parachute.
Plan
There are many factors that affect the rate of decent of a parachute, some of these are: The weight of
the object on the end of a parachute, the weight of the parachute, the length of the strings on the end
of the parachute, the surface area of the parachute, and the shape of the parachute. As we were only
instructed to investigate one of the factors listed above we chose to find out how the surface area of
a parachute affects it's fall. This is how we are going to carry out our experiment:
Firstly we will cut out 8 differently ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We will use sellotape to attach the string to the corners of the parachutes, we must be carefull to put
the sellotape on flat so that the binliner doesn't ruckle and turn the parachute into a funny shape so it
affects the results. We measured both the parachutes and the strings using a meter ruler.
Thirdly we will attach a lump of plasticine to the ends of the strings of each parachute. The lump of
plasticine must be put on at exactly the same point on the strings on each parachute so that the out
come isn't affected by the parachutes being pulled down awkwardly or the strings being
longer/shorter so that the parachute touches down quicker/slower. The plasticine should also be
exactly the same mass (5grams) for each parachute because if there is more weight on some of the
parachutes those parachutes will be pulled down faster and if there is less weight on some of the
parachutes those parachutes will be pulled down slower. The plasticine must also be stuck at the
same point on each of the parachute's strings so that the results aren't affected by the parachute being
pulled down awkwardly or the strings don't vary in length.
Once all of the parachutes are made we will drop each parachute from the ceiling, which is 2.5m
high, and time how long it

Essay on Media Effects
Media Effects
The Effects of Media on the Public's Opinion Mass media – have you ever taken the time to
consider two articles about the same thing? Some may be more bias against a group or idea, while
others keep a strict, non bias view. The way the media portrays events may change or even corrupt
people's thoughts on certain public matters. This paper will dissect four articles on the Woodstock
riots and show the relationships and differences between them. On a Sunday night, near the closing
song of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, there were a few bonfires were reported. The firefighters, feeling
they were under control, let these bonfires burn. Then Limp Bizkit came on, another hard–core

quote by an unknown person, Oh man they must of run out of drugs, (page 1 & 2) struck the author
so much that he made it the title. Facts may be different or changed up to help exaggerate the
authors' or companies' view points in the articles, Is Rock 'n' Rage Replacing Rock 'n' Roll? and
Woodstock Gets Ugly. In the article, Is Rock 'n' Rage Replacing Rock 'n' Roll? the author spends the
majority of his writing comparing the past two Woodstocks to the current one, barely touching on
the subject of the riot. The article only stated what happened and the fact that the blame should be
placed on the band, Limp Bizkit. The band was said to have urged the audience to break stuff. In the
other article, Woodstock Gets Ugly, it is said that placing one hard–core band after another could be
a mistake and may be the cause of the riots, or other happening, to be placed on the organizers of the
event, the bands or the audience. This shows how the companies' or authors' views can be bias
against certain groups or ideas by placing the blame on a single band, but a non bias paper places the
blame all around. The motivation in

The Mysterious D. B. Cooper's Hijacking The Parachute
Imagine it is 1971 and you are on a flight from Portland to Seattle. You take your seat and get ready
for your flight. You see an ominous man and you have your suspicions, but you think nothing of it.
Later in the flight, you see him talking to the stewardess and see him slip her a note. He then shows
her what is in his suitcase and asks her to sit with him. You start to get a bad feeling that something
is not right. The man then seems to request something as the stewardess gets up to go to the cockpit.
She appears to be anxious as she returns. After about twenty minutes your flight lands in Seattle and

dollars and get away with it for free, why not? Many people look at Cooper and see him as scum

a surface–to–air missile on his 75th combat mission. He parachuted out but was captured and spent
six years in a communist Vietnamese prison. He somehow survived the nightmare and now teaches
leadership!
Years later, when Plumb was at a restaurant, a man came up and said, "You're Charles Plumb! You

He adds, "To be a good leader, you've got to concentrate on bringing out the best in your people.
People are no different than flowers – they need to be cared for and watered all the time if not they

Fairness, Open Mindedness And Neutrality
Professionals in the United States Army stand apart from others involved in particular careers in the
civilian world. Whereas many vocations contain some of the characteristics of a professional, a lot
of careers do not include all of the necessary to differentiate themselves as being as close to a
professional as a United States soldier. Professionalism grows depending on the time and service
that the individual has in the Army.
A professional is said to have specialized knowledge and skill which can only be acquired through
persistent education and experience. Such skill and experience form the basis of objective standards
of proficient competence that separate the practicing professional from their peers and measure the
proficiency of such professionalism. This professional knowledge must also be intellectual in nature.
Soldiers are required to accept responsibility for their actions and resulting consequences. This
includes avoiding even the appearance of offensiveness. Accountability promotes careful, well–
thought–out decision making and limits thoughtless action. Fairness, open–mindedness and
neutrality are important aspects of fairness. Soldiers must be committed to justice in the
performance of their official duties. Decisions must not be illogical, impulsive, or biased.
Individuals must be treated equally and with tolerance.
Such professional is the paratrooper. Paratroopers are military parachutists – military personnel

The Golden Parachute Option for CEO's
Imagine being in a world where people are paid in cash bonuses, stock options, or generous
severance pay when fired from their job due to a company merger, are asked to leave, or choose to
retire. This happens to be a reality for many CEO's and top executives of companies. We live in an
economy where mergers and take over's have become common, and to allow this option for the
highest paid employees of a company is arguably unfair. While researching golden parachutes, I
formed questions due to the circumstances surrounding this executive option. For example, why
should CEO's, who live very comfortably, be given a compensation package for losing their position
due to a company merger or retirement when employee and shareholder's futures are ... Show more

Once executives were getting these highly substantial payments, shareholders quickly questioned
executives for their integrity and motive due to this high increase in payment amounts. There have
been many debated reasons in support of and against golden parachutes on account of the increase in
payment amounts and how the terms of their severance package were written out.
It interests me how easy someone can be opposed to golden parachutes from a middle class citizen's
view, where we all want to be paid the same dollar figures as top executives. It's strongly argued
golden parachutes give the feeling that CEO's and top executives are solely looking out for
themselves, not considering how investors and employees will be impacted by mergers. As I stated
in my opening paragraph, "Why should CEO's be given a compensation package for losing their job
due to a company merger or retirement when employee and shareholder's futures are at stake?"
Andrew Ross Sorkin supported this notion in his article Executive Pay: A Special Report; Those
Sweet Trips to the Merger Mall in which he stated, "Mergers and acquisitions can be get–rich–quick
paths for top corporate managers, providing a personal incentive to get the deal done, no matter

Unit 1 Parachute Investigation
Stage 1 Physics investigation – Parachute Investigation
The purpose of this assignment is to work out a parachute design and investigate parachute's drop
time. Parachutes are designed to fall slowly so that the person can land safely to the ground, as
shown in figure 1. Parachutes are big, but not heavy and have a larger surface area for air resistance
like traps the air from escaping out of it. This is because the air pushes the parachute back up, but
the force of gravity pulls the parachute to the earth.
Figure 1 In figure 1, the force of the gravity is pulling the person and the parachute towards the
ground because gravitational force makes the object fall quickly. However, the parachute slows the
person down because it causes air resistance as it pushes the parachute back up and creates an
opposite gravitational force. The forces "push or a pull" are called action and reaction forces, the
subject of newton's third law. During this investigation, the push force is the air resistance and
opposite (pull) force is the gravity.
It is predicted that four–sided parachute will take more time to reach the ground because the larger
the surface area, more air particles hit/collide with the parachute, as shown in diagram 2.
Nevertheless, the smaller the surface area of the parachute, fewer air particles collide and the ...

towards the ground. Think to yourself, is this a good decision?
What is BASE jumping? BASE jumping is jumping off heights with very little equipment. When
people BASE jump, they are launching without a previously inflated canopy, which makes it very
dangerous. Everything that is immobile, and or vertical, can be, or is considered BASE jumpable.
You jump, and you only have a matter of seconds before you can inflate the canopy, and land safely.
It can be considered even more dangerous than parachuting. Lots of people are experts at BASE
jumping, and would recommend trying it. BASE jumping is it's own sport. In July 1980, officials
and permits were first issued by the National Parks. Now, people enjoy it as it's own sport, and it is
very different than all of the others. It is actually more popular

The Joys of Skydiving Essay
It was a warm and sunny Saturday morning when my friend, Sivi, and I left our home to travel to the
small local airport located outside of town. Just the previous night we had received 4 hours of
classroom training in how to perform a successful "Skydive" and now we would receive 4 more
hours of practical, hands–on training.
Sivi and I have spent a lot of time talking with, and taking care of Senior Citizens on a volunteer
basis. Through many conversations, we discovered that one of the major regrets that people have, as
the near the end, is that they didn't experience everything that they wanted to when they were
younger. The major reason for this was fear. Fear that they would fail or fear that they might be
injured. Sivi ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Our group's task was to master the skill of jumping into a gravel pit from the top of a 4 foot platform
and rolling "gently" to one side, thus minimizing the force of the contact. Our instructor, a young
man of about 30, demonstrated just how easy this was. He also explained that at the end of our
"real" jump we could possibly hit the ground at a fairly high speed and that only by mastering this
"rolling" technique would we be able to avoid breaking an ankle, a leg, or even worse.
With this dire message still ringing in our ears, we proceeded to line up, one behind the other, and
jump into the gravel pit. Sivi was first and did just fine. When it was my turn, I felt pretty confident
because of my past athletic experience. Unfortunately, this past experience did me very little good. I
hit the ground too stiff legged and jammed my head right into the ground. Boy, was I glad to have
on that pink helmet. My instructor was happy to have me to use as an example of what not to do.
"See, that is how you break your ankle. Now keep practicing until you get it right." he bellowed to
my fellow jumpers.
We all jumped maybe 30 times into that gravel pit, and we were all very grateful to move on to our
next trial. Here we actually put on a parachute harness and became suspended about 5 feet in the air.
The idea of this was to get us accustomed to the feel of a parachute harness and to teach us how to

Taking a Look at the Parachute
The parachute is an invention that many people around the world use today. It can be used for
skydiving, military use and for safety on air planes. The idea came from the one and only Leonardo
Da Vinci about the1480's. He came up with the idea on paper. He actually never built the idea. But
he is noted for the first person to come up with the idea of the parachute. Some people say during
ancient Chinese age; they came up with the idea. It is written in history that Leonardo Da Vinci
made a sketch of the invention with this description; "If a man have a tent made of linen of which
the apertures (openings) have all been stopped up, and it be twelve braccia (about 23 feet) across
and twelve in depth, he will be able to throw himself down form any great height without suffering
any injury." The notion remained unmade until Sebastien Lenormand in 1783 walked off the top of
the Montpellier observatory then, a few seconds later, landed on the ground intact. It is said that he
came up with the word parachute. He crossed the French prefix paracete. Meaning to protect
against, and chute. The French word for fall; it all together it meant to describe the devise's purpose.
The next person to make an impact was a man named André–Jacques Garnerin. He was known for
taking High altitudes from a hydrogen balloon. His wife Jeanne–Genevieve; became the first female
to parachute. Unfortunately in 1823 he died in a balloon accident while preparing to test a new
parachute. Then it was until

The Organizational Management Report ( Omr ) Or Omr...
Introduction
The purpose of this assignment is to help me make a decision in my workplace on whether we
should provide the Organizational Management Report (OMR) or OMR summary or both version
reports to each organization who eligible to receive a report. There are two factors that we need to
consider before we make the decision. The first factor is time. How long will it take us to populate
five hundred and twenty full versions OMR and OMR summary? Our office has promised to
provide the report by the second week of October. The second factor is the ability to understand the
report. The majority of the managers and leaders find an OMR is a little overwhelming since the
OMR has a total of forty pages. The majority of the manager and leaders do not have much time to
spend on the report. On the other hand, there are organizations that want to have an OMR which
allow them to manipulate the data and create their own survey report.

Analysis Of Jim Mccormick's Short Story 'Breaking Through...
The two stories "Breaking through Uncertainty" and "Neighbours" are both stories about how big
the benefits are when risks have been taken. The first short story is about how a skydiver must
overcome his own uncertainty, to save himself from certain death. While the other story is still
dramatic, just in a different tone; it's about a young woman, who must decide whether or not a
friendship is worth standing up for something that's right. The protagonists in both stories, have to
take risks, and they're both rewarded for taking those risks; one with his life, and the other with a
stronger friendship. Even though the skydiver is risking his life, the protagonist in "Neighbours" had
more gut to do what she had to do, where is the skydiver just let second nature take over. Above all,
the protagonists both did experience serious risk–taking moments, and they both benefited for the
greater good.
"Breaking Through Uncertainty" by Jim McCormick is about how a skydiver is plummeting to his
death, and he has got to figure out how to save himself. All the while the skydiver must deal with his
self–doubt. In paragraph eight, we see actually how much danger the skydiver is in "I looked up to
assess my canopy and saw something I don't often see; the horizon clearly visible ABOVE the
trailing edge of my canopy." The skydiver obviously now knows what the stakes are if he messes
up, which make his self–doubt start to kick in. He starts to worry he's not going to do it, the only
thing

The Causes Of Food, Hunger, And Around The World
It is a sunny day and you are watching T.V, when a thought comes to your mind and wonder what
are other people doing around the world while you're enjoying your life? Are they happy, working,
or survive hunger? Their are millions of things at can cause hunger all over the world, and they are
still happening." 795 million people do not have enough of the food they need to live an active,
healthy life" (Mercy Corps 1) Food hunger can happen anytime or anywhere, and can be caused by
anything, too. However, some causes of hunger are by war, weather and climate, human population,
storage facilities, natural disasters and global warming. The most destructive is drought, poor or
failed harvests can turn in resulted of food scarcity and high prices available of food(harvest 1). The
other one that is more common in people is having no money. In some countries or places, men are
the only ones that have a good opportunity to a job, education, and money. Women are the opposite
of that, they have less job options women are the ones who stay in the house and taking care of
children. Lots and millions of people are suffering for food because they can't afford it or have no
way to receive some. There are campaigns helping people but not enough for this situation. Hunger
doesn't only affect one place in the world, it can spread to different locations affecting the
population that lives their. "60 percent of the world's hungry are women and girls"(Mercy Corps 1).

Evaluate The Accuracy Of Parachute Results
Overall, I think the experiment went well, but the results collected at the end were invalid and
reasonably inaccurate, however, on the other hand, errors and mistakes occurred during the
investigation. The dropping time of the parachute was not accurate because it went off course, so it
is not reliable as we could not control the factors which affected the parachute. This is because the
parachute had more air resistance, but the weight force was less and took way too much time to
reach the ground. For example; the weather and weight affected the parachute's drop time and we
could've tested the parachute from different heights to get more accurate and valid results. My
results prove my prediction correct that large surface area parachutes will take more time to land as
more air particles hit with the parachute. This explains that the parachute will take more time to
reach the ground safely. My team tried to make the surface area of the parachute as large as possible,
so there would be more air resistance because of the more the air resistance, the slower it will
descend. My team's parachutes were best at landing, but it went off course because the object was
not heavy enough, so air resistance force ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the other hand, the prediction was correct that the larger the surface area of the parachute, the
longer it will take to reach the ground safely because the purpose of the parachutes is to land people
or objects safely and slowly. After this investigation squared shaped parachutes were better because
it took the greater amount of time to land. However, the parachute went off course because more air
particles hit on the parachute, but the weight force was less. This is because unbalanced forces acted
on it. Overall, this investigation worked well because my team's parachute took the longest time (9
seconds) to reach the ground compared to other parachutes, but floated

Luke Aikins Research Paper
With more than 16,000 jumps to his credit, professional skydiver Luke Aikins has performed many
heart–stopping stunts, but his latest feat tops them all. On July 30, 2016, the 42–year–old daredevil
became the first man in the world to leap off a plane from an altitude of 25,000 feet without a
wingsuit or parachute! Instead, he relied on a net that measured 100–by–100–feet, or less than one–
third the size of a football field, to break his fall and help him land safely.
The stunt, aptly named "Heaven Sent," was so dangerous that the United States Parachute
Association (USPA) initially denied the skydiver's request to jump without a parachute. However,
the association had a change of heart just minutes before the event, which meant that Akins had no
backup during the historic leap. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the same height with the same weight would hit the same time, but when he drop a pencil and a rock

Chronicle Of A Death Foretold By Gabriel Garcia Marquez
In "Chronicle of a Death Foretold" by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, the author creates an interpretation
of a small Colombian town, which is the home of a Narrator who recalls the details of the murder of
a man named Santiago Nasar. Marquez employs a unique, non–linear narrative in order to detail the
events and outcomes of the whole ordeal of both Santiago's death; in addition to the events that were
transpiring during the matter. Spread intermittently throughout the narrative are traces of
methodical, deliberate, and almost robotic practices that are followed by the inhabitants of the town.

the sudden jolt as the parachute opened and slowed my decent. I felt weightless like a dandelion

planes in the air and tanks on the ground and small figures that were men on the ground running. It

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Golden Parachutes
Golden parachutes" get a lot of press, and they always sound like elite packages for high–level
executives. Very few people get them, and very few people know how they work.
Companies usually reserve them for executives at the top of the organization chart, and these
contracts establish an agreed–upon compensation package that the employee would immediately
receive upon termination. The benefits package usually includes a list of specific terms that explain
what the terminated employee will receive.
How a Golden Parachute Works

Expose the fact that executives may not be objective in the event of a takeover. During a merger or
any other agreement that may affect a company's future, an executive has a sworn duty to look after

objective during this process.
5. May not necessarily discourage hostile takeovers. Golden parachutes make up a small percentage
of the cost of a merger. In the scheme of things, they're not a major inhibiting factor when it comes

Classic Examples of Golden Parachutes

forces were staged to enter Germany in late summer 1944. Both Field Marshal Montgomery and
General Bradley clamored to be given the priority of effort. General Eisenhower chose
Montgomery's Operation MARKET GARDEN as the plan for action. It called for airborne forces to

his officers disagreeing with distance, Urquhart told his officers they will use the gliders to transport

shot up and damaged beyond use. It has been opined that if he had been an experienced airborne
commander, Urquhart may have been more determined to oppose the decision to land the whole
Division 8 miles from the bridge, rather than drop the parachutists much closer to it. It is a point that
those who knew the General would refute without difficulty. However it is true that his objection to
the poor air plan could have been stronger than it was, but it must be remembered that Urquhart had
to plan an entire operation in only seven days, and so when faced with stubborn opposition from
fellow commanders he had little option but to accept the situation and move on. Nevertheless, these
failings in the plan sealed the fate of Market Garden before it had begun. The initial airborne drops
caught the Germans totally by surprise, and there was little resistance. MG Urquhart, later wrote that
"ever since the first landing, General Bittrich commander of the II SS Panzer Corps and his staff had

Base Jumping Is Becoming Known As One Of The Most Extreme...
Base jumping is becoming known as one of the most extreme sports the world knows. To
successfully BASE jump one must bound from an "exit point", and free fall from very high places.
People say it's too dangerous, and should be outlawed completely. On the other hand, people like the
late Dean Potter used to successfully jump with his dog in a backpack as he would leap off cliffs
falling as much as 3000 feet towards the ground. BASE jumping is amazing, and isn't for everyone,
but it should at the least remain someone's choice to do it or not in my opinion.
Its known as BASE jumping, and BASE is an acronym that stands for buildings, antennae, spans,
and earth such as cliffs and mountains (Tara L. Allman). These are all places BASE jumpers hurdle
from. They go to these places to perform their sport, leaping off into the void and free falling.
Before smashing into the ground, they deploy their parachute. There is a high likelihood you will die
if you make any mistakes. So you are effectively saving your own life every time you do it. Simple
right? Not by a long shot. This sport is a huge undertaking. You start off a student, and only after
years learning under a mentor, do you get to wear the invisible badge of BASE Jumper. BASE
jumping is widely viewed by the public as dangerous and too risky. In many countries and states of
the US, BASE jumping is illegal. In addition, not only is the act of jumping illegal, but BASE

An Introduction to the Golden Parachute
When we talk about executive compensation, one topic that never fails to come up is the Golden
Parachute. The Golden Parachute, as the name suggest is an executive safety net of sorts that is
included in the employment contracts of senior–level executives. Basically it is a special payment –
usually a lump–sum amounting to millions, that is paid in the event of a change in control of the
company1. The reasons for the implementation of the Golden Parachute is something that has been
constantly debated, but the most common ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Alignment of Management & Shareholder Interest
As mentioned at the beginning of this paper, one of the main objectives of the Golden Parachute is
to control the behaviour of management in a acquisition event. During a acquisition event, the
bidding company or the acquirer would often bypass the executives and the management and go
straight to the shareholders, offering a premium over the current trading share price, which can be
seen as a increase to shareholder wealth5. However, often times once the acquiring company gains
control, the acquired company's management is usually either sidelined or dismissed from the
company. That being the case, there inherently exist a conflict between the interest of the
management (to preserve their source of income) and the interest of shareholders (to maximise
wealth).
Management as has been well established in the corporate world has the duty to act in a way that is
in the interest of the shareholders, and often this involves making decisions that maximise
shareholder wealth. However, in light of the prospect of losing their jobs after a acquisition,
management might not act in the best interest of the shareholders and oppose the acquisition in order
to maintain

How Parachutes Were Used During WWI

  • 1. How Parachutes Were Used During WWI How Parachutes were used during the war? Parachutes proved capable for more than entertainment when they began to apply them during the First World War. During the First World War parachutes were a valuable utility that was used to save balloonists observing during the war that had serious problems with the balloon. Parachutes were mostly just used for balloonists since Americans decided that if they gave parachutes to pilots, that they would jump out when unnecessary, and leave the aircraft to be destroyed. But, only after realizing "that pilots were difficult to train and far more valuable than aircraft" did they start to allow their pilots to begin wearing the guardian angels that saved them from horrendous deaths. • 3. What Does The Parachute Symbolize In Lord Of The Flies Lord of the Flies is one the most controversial novels ever written. It shows that people are evil by human nature. The story displays this on different levels: literal and symbolic. In Lord of the Flies, the parachute functions as a turning point in the story. It indirectly causes the death of Simon and it supports the assumption that there is a beast on the island. The parachute foreshadows death, symbolizes fear and reminds the boys about the existence of the adult world. To begin with, the encounter with the parachutist foreshadows and symbolizes death. First of all, a suggestion could be made that the parachute could've prevented them from being rescued. After the encounter with the parachutist, the boys became more cautious and afraid. ... • 5. Parachute Field Artillery Battalion: The Battle Of Bastogne SIEGE OF BASTOGNE The 463rd Parachute Field Artillery Battalion organized 21 February 1944 was Comprised of C and D batteries from the 463rd Parachute Field Artillery Battalion, 82nd Airborne Division. Later reflagged under 101st DIVARTY. Commanded by Major Hugh Neal (Hesler, n.d.) The 463rd Battalion had a key role and contributed to the success of the 101st at the Battle of Bastogne. Bastogne a small town in the Ardennes mountains of Belgium, Germany was the sight of fierce and strategically vital battle between German and American forces. All the roads in the Ardennes mountains met at the town of Bastogne. Making this key piece of terrain to both the German and American forces. Also known as the siege of Bastogne this battle ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With the American and German infantry both in defensive positions, a battle of artillery began. The 463rd with only 16 75mm Howitzers tasked with covering a sector 360– degrees extending out over eight kilometers. After three brutal days of fighting the German commander feeling the desperation of the Americans, sent the terms of surrender to General McAuliffe the commander of 101st Airborne Division, replied simply with "NUTS". The first four days of the operation, Major Neal and his Howitzers fired over 13,000 rounds. Credited with a disputed number of enemy tanks destroyed. Anticipating an attack from the Germans after General McAuliffe's goading response to the terms of surrender, Major Neal began requesting much needed ammunition and rations for his men. On 23 December severed from Allied resupply routes multiple C–47 transport planes dropped ammunition and rations for the men of the 463rd. This resupply is the decisive factor to the American victory at Bastogne. 25 December the German Offensive begins. With orders from General McAuliffe to hold Bastogne at all costs Major Neal gave his guidance to repel the attack or Die in place. Sergeant Joseph Rogan and Corporal Bryan Restor Forward Observers with the 463rd occupied an observation post 1000 meters beyond the forward line of own troops. In the fallowing days the two men would be responsible for spotting enemy tank movements and repelling enemy assaulting units utilizing indirect fires. The two men called an unknown number of fire missions, resulting in over 8,000 rounds fired and a disputed number of enemy tanks destroyed. • 7. Bloody Sunday Essay Bloody Sunday The events that took place on Bloody Sunday, 30th January 1972 have been discussed frequently and certain aspects of the event highly debated. The events of the particular day were of significant influence in further procedures in N. Ireland an on other related events. The event began after an illegal march took place in the centre of Derry, N. Ireland; the police and government banned the march as it was thought it would provoke violence. The march was lead by Catholic supporters who were demonstrating for Catholic rights, the Protestant–biased government and the internment of Catholics. As ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was thought by some that the IRA wanted a major gun battle, although others thought that if similar events to those that took place in Magilligan, London would be shamed and therefore it would seem that the British paratroopers would want to hold their fire against the Catholic demonstrators. Another stance is that the Catholics were simply holding another peaceful protest. About a week before Bloody Sunday, a two hour gunfight to place at Forkhill in County Armagh between British troops and the IRA. About 1000 shots were fired. Because of all the violence of the previous weeks, which was blamed on the IRA, the Protestant unionists felt that a tougher approach must be made to stop further violence from occurring. After Bloody Sunday had taken place, the question of who was to blame and more importunately for some, who had fired the first shot. Different accounts of the day can give us an idea of what happened, although the evidence is far from conclusive. The official statement released by the army and approved by Lieutenant General Sir Harry Tuzo stated that, ¡¥The paratroopers came under nail bomb attack and a fusillade of fifty to eighty rounds.¡¦ Although the statement simply offers the Paratroopers version of what happened, it simply cannot be trusted as it is undoubtedly ... • 9. Operation Market Garden Battle Analysis Battle Analysis: Lesson learned Operation Market Garden was the biggest airborne operation in history. It was a real attempt to use airborne in a strategic role in Europe. Operation Market–Garden was unsuccessful Allied offensive that launched on 17 September 1944. The execution of the operation consisted of two sub–operations. An airborne forces operation, code named Market, was to seize, and secure key bridges along the Rhine river to facilitate rapid movement for British ground forces. A ground forces operation, code named Garden, was to link up with airborne forces at the north of Arnhem. British General Bernard Montgomery was the brain behind Operation Market–Garden. He wanted to by–pass the Siegfried Line, German massive line of defense, by crossing the Rhine, then into the industrial area in Northern Germany and then onto Berlin to end the war. Allied offensive was the largest airborne operation up to that date. It consisted of 1,545 troop carriers, 478 gliders, 3,500 glider men and 16,500 paratroopers (Fox, 1994, p.1). the initial phase of airborne forces operation was a success, however British paratroopers failed to secure the key bridge of Arnhem. The ground forces that were supposed to link up with airborne forces, faced fierce attacks by 88mm guns and Panzerfausts. The operation lasted nine day, in which Allied forces fought the German forces in and around the city of Arnhem, Nijmegen, and Eindhoven. Allied ground forces failed to advance and support the ... • 11. Essay on Different Historical Interpretations of Bloody... Different Historical Interpretations of Bloody Sunday On January 30th 1972, civil rights activists were involved in a protest march against internment through Londonderry. British paratroopers, who were deployed on the streets, shot and killed 13 of the marchers and wounded others. Many people have different views on what happened and why. The main conflicting views are those of the paratroopers and their supporters and the views of the marchers and the friends and family of those killed. Source A is a newspaper report form the Daily Mail in September 1999. It is a report on new evidence released from the second enquiry into Bloody Sunday, led by Lord Saville. The headline reads "PARAS IN ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, this would be welcomed by the marchers and families of those killed, as they have always insisted that those killed were innocent victims of British paratroopers. They were greatly angered at the findings of the Widgery enquiry and believed that it was a whitewash by the British government. This new evidence presents a new chance for those who they believe are murderers to be put on trial. Another change, which discredits the original evidence, is that "forensic scientist Dr. John Martin, who gave evidence to the Widgery hearing that Mr. Wray had been handling guns or explosives, has reversed his opinion". This is bad for the Paratroopers side of the story, but could suggest that Dr. Martin had been under pressure to support the soldiers in the enquiry, as their story was based on the protestors firing guns at them. Source B is another newspaper report, from the Guardian. The headline reads "BLOODY SUNDAY REVELATION. This backs up what we have been saying all these years: the victims were innocent." This immediately indicated that the writer of the article supports the view of the protesters and the families of those killed. This also shows that the article may be biased. The article also does not include the opinion of the Paratroopers or their supporters on the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. NASA Budget Analysis Using the NASA budget provided and my job of using the best materials and keeping the expenses low for a design for a lander, I finally came down to a design. My design choices include a parachute of 100 m. This includes having a surface area large enough that it can produce air friction. A safety cage of a cubic capsule in where the egg has four surfaced sides in which it can land on. Also , includes a crumple zone that has rigid lander legs .This will give a medium rigidity where it can withstand the impact of the force acting against it but doesn't stay rigid in where the legs cannot be used as a crumple zone . This design can offer a safe landing on Mars and support the things inside it in a safe and compact condition. Using ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The safety has to have a capsule that keeps everything secure inside it safe in the time of impact. This is the reason on to why I chose a cubic capsule because, I know that in the area inside there would be an even amount of space and have an equal amount of space , not only that but as the space lander lands it will be easier for the object to land with the parachute with a shape that has even surfaces on four sides in case if it lands on either sides of the surfaces .The object that I chose to use for the safety capsule is the aluminum alloy . I chose this material because not only was the weight low but also the cost was at a medium . Although, we know that the tensile strength is only at 300 we know that if more air friction is added to the space lander it is going to have less force applied to it as the falling is happening meaning the strength of the tensile is okay to not be too rigid . The price of the material is also at a very cheap price we know that NASA " is to cut cost , mass , and risk " This is matching characteristics and with the low–cost of the other products included in the space lander having a medium cost is not going to have a large effect on the total ... • 15. The Consequences Of The Falling Of A Parachute The falling of a parachute represents something much deeper then the written text. The pulling and slacking of the parachutes strings shows how basic responsibilities may take priority over original thought and pull actions in different directions. The idea of being an adult comes with many challenges and commitments that need to be regulated. This includes balancing work, play, and a family. Being stranded, these young boys do not have the norms of society, changing and molding them to be adults. This lack of responsibility and actual leadership gives them a false sense of adulthood, and what they perceive to be the freedom of age. Having responsibilities can give a perception that adulthood is near because most children are taught that having ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. Essay on Physics coursework The factors that affect the motion of a falling object Scientific Knowledge When an object falls, many forces are acted upon it: gravity, friction, air resistance and, if in the water, up thrust. When an object starts to fall, gravity over powers air resistance, however, as an object starts to reach terminal velocity (its maximum speed) the opposite forces start to even out until they are equal. Some people believe that if the forces are balanced then the object has stopped moving, meanwhile they could also just be moving at a constant speed (its terminal velocity). All free–falling objects accelerate at the same speed no matter what their mass is (9.8m/s²). There are two calculations you need for this investigation, no matter which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is because the weight increases as the cube of the size of an object, but the air resistance (drag) only increases as the square of the size, so the bigger the object is, the faster it will fall (or to be more precise, it has a higher terminal velocity.) The surface area can affect the motion of the falling object because it is has more air resistance pushing against it. Because there is more air resistance pushing against a larger object, it will fall so because it is making the downward force (gravity) weaker since there is now a larger force counteracting that first force. An object with a larger surface area will fall slower (have a smaller velocity) because it means there is a large area for air to come into contact with to produce that counteracting force called air resistance. Another factor that can affect the motion of a falling object is the viscosity of the liquid that it is falling through. Viscosity of liquid means how thick the liquid is. The higher the viscosity of the liquid, the more the liquid resists the object which is falling through it. This means that it will take a longer amount of time for the object to fall; meaning the velocity of the object will be very small. A further factor that can affect the motion of a falling object is the height from which the object is dropped from. Obviously, if an object is dropped from a greater height, it will take longer to reach the ground than the same object to reach the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 19. Flight 305 Research Paper On November 24, 1971, a passenger like any other boarded Northwest Orient Airlines Flight 305. The man known as D.B. Cooper, hijacked the plane with a ransom note that demanded money and parachutes, when he got the money he jumped off the plane, never to be seen again. Many have wondered how he succeeded the heist and if he even survived the jump. Along with D.B. Cooper, 36 other passengers boarded the Boeing 727, that was headed from Portland to Seattle. Soon after taking off, Cooper handed the flight attendant a note. When she looked at the note it read, "I have a bomb in my briefcase. I will use it if necessary. I want you to sit next to me. You are being hijacked." He then showed a glimpse of wires and red sticks in his brief case. Cooper ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When receiving the parachutes he refused the instructions on how to use them. This concluded that he probably had used parachutes before. Out of the parachutes he received he decided to use the non–steerable military parachute. Tom Kaye of Citizen Sleuths reports on why this would have been a good choice, "The military chute could better withstand the exit speed of the plane." It is believed that Cooper jumped out of the plane above Tacoma, Washington. Prior to jumping, he told the flight attendant to join the crew in the cockpit. Shortly after, a warning light indicated the rear door had been opened. The crew assumed that he had jumped at this point, which was over Washington. According to former Army Trooper Gregory Hall, D.B. Cooper made a diversion that was so successful that people have been searching in the wrong area ever since that night. Instead of immediately jumping out, Cooper would have waited and jumped out later when they already thought he was gone. This distraction would've been the perfect attempt to fool the FBI in its investigation. It seems to be no coincidence that D.B. Cooper ended up on a Boeing 727. The tie left behind on the plane showed that he could've been a worker for the company. According to a group of scientists selected by federal officials in Seattle, "A new analysis of the tie turned up particles of cerium, strontium sulfide, and pure titanium." The particles found were mainly used in the manufacture of certain aircrafts at the time. Tom Kaye of Citizen Sleuths, said the particles indicate Cooper may have worked in one of the rare industries where they were used. Kaye also said those substances were used in one of Boeing's plane that Cooper could've been a manger or engineer at. In addition to the theory that Cooper's landing zone was around Reno, two letters showed up at the Reno newspapers. A few days ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Investigating a Factor that Affects the Rate of Decent of a Parachute Aim– To investigate one factor that affects the rate of decent of a parachute. Plan There are many factors that affect the rate of decent of a parachute, some of these are: The weight of the object on the end of a parachute, the weight of the parachute, the length of the strings on the end of the parachute, the surface area of the parachute, and the shape of the parachute. As we were only instructed to investigate one of the factors listed above we chose to find out how the surface area of a parachute affects it's fall. This is how we are going to carry out our experiment: Firstly we will cut out 8 differently ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We will use sellotape to attach the string to the corners of the parachutes, we must be carefull to put the sellotape on flat so that the binliner doesn't ruckle and turn the parachute into a funny shape so it affects the results. We measured both the parachutes and the strings using a meter ruler. Thirdly we will attach a lump of plasticine to the ends of the strings of each parachute. The lump of plasticine must be put on at exactly the same point on the strings on each parachute so that the out come isn't affected by the parachutes being pulled down awkwardly or the strings being longer/shorter so that the parachute touches down quicker/slower. The plasticine should also be exactly the same mass (5grams) for each parachute because if there is more weight on some of the parachutes those parachutes will be pulled down faster and if there is less weight on some of the parachutes those parachutes will be pulled down slower. The plasticine must also be stuck at the same point on each of the parachute's strings so that the results aren't affected by the parachute being pulled down awkwardly or the strings don't vary in length. Once all of the parachutes are made we will drop each parachute from the ceiling, which is 2.5m high, and time how long it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Some may be more bias against a group or idea, while others keep a strict, non bias view. The way the media portrays events may change or even corrupt people's thoughts on certain public matters. This paper will dissect four articles on the Woodstock riots and show the relationships and differences between them. On a Sunday night, near the closing song of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, there were a few bonfires were reported. The firefighters, feeling they were under control, let these bonfires burn. (Pg. 1 para. 7) Another similar quote by an unknown person, Oh man they must of run out of drugs, (page 1 & 2) struck the author so much that he made it the title. Facts may be different or changed up to help exaggerate the authors' or companies' view points in the articles, Is Rock 'n' Rage Replacing Rock 'n' Roll? and Woodstock Gets Ugly. In the article, Is Rock 'n' Rage Replacing Rock 'n' Roll? the author spends the majority of his writing comparing the past two Woodstocks to the current one, barely touching on the subject of the riot. The article only stated what happened and the fact that the blame should be placed on the band, Limp Bizkit. The band was said to have urged the audience to break stuff. In the other article, Woodstock Gets Ugly, it is said that placing one hard–core band after another could be a mistake and may be the cause of the riots, or other happening, to be placed on the organizers of the event, the bands or the audience. This shows how the companies' or authors' views can be bias against certain groups or ideas by placing the blame on a single band, but a non bias paper places the blame all around. Whereas many vocations contain some of the characteristics of a professional, a lot of careers do not include all of the necessary to differentiate themselves as being as close to a professional as a United States soldier. Professionalism grows depending on the time and service that the individual has in the Army. A professional is said to have specialized knowledge and skill which can only be acquired through persistent education and experience. Such skill and experience form the basis of objective standards of proficient competence that separate the practicing professional from their peers and measure the proficiency of such professionalism. This professional knowledge must also be intellectual in nature. Soldiers are required to accept responsibility for their actions and resulting consequences. This includes avoiding even the appearance of offensiveness. Accountability promotes careful, well– thought–out decision making and limits thoughtless action. Fairness, open–mindedness and neutrality are important aspects of fairness. Soldiers must be committed to justice in the performance of their official duties. The Golden Parachute Option for CEO's Imagine being in a world where people are paid in cash bonuses, stock options, or generous severance pay when fired from their job due to a company merger, are asked to leave, or choose to retire. This happens to be a reality for many CEO's and top executives of companies. We live in an economy where mergers and take over's have become common, and to allow this option for the highest paid employees of a company is arguably unfair. While researching golden parachutes, I formed questions due to the circumstances surrounding this executive option. For example, why should CEO's, who live very comfortably, be given a compensation package for losing their position due to a company merger or retirement when employee and shareholder's futures are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Once executives were getting these highly substantial payments, shareholders quickly questioned executives for their integrity and motive due to this high increase in payment amounts. There have been many debated reasons in support of and against golden parachutes on account of the increase in payment amounts and how the terms of their severance package were written out. It interests me how easy someone can be opposed to golden parachutes from a middle class citizen's view, where we all want to be paid the same dollar figures as top executives. It's strongly argued golden parachutes give the feeling that CEO's and top executives are solely looking out for themselves, not considering how investors and employees will be impacted by mergers. As I stated in my opening paragraph, "Why should CEO's be given a compensation package for losing their job due to a company merger or retirement when employee and shareholder's futures are at stake?" Andrew Ross Sorkin supported this notion in his article Executive Pay: A Special Report; Those Sweet Trips to the Merger Mall in which he stated, "Mergers and acquisitions can be get–rich–quick paths for top corporate managers, providing a personal incentive to get the deal done, no matter what happens to shareholders. • 35. Unit 1 Parachute Investigation Stage 1 Physics investigation – Parachute Investigation The purpose of this assignment is to work out a parachute design and investigate parachute's drop time. Parachutes are designed to fall slowly so that the person can land safely to the ground, as shown in figure 1. Parachutes are big, but not heavy and have a larger surface area for air resistance like traps the air from escaping out of it. This is because the air pushes the parachute back up, but the force of gravity pulls the parachute to the earth. Figure 1 In figure 1, the force of the gravity is pulling the person and the parachute towards the ground because gravitational force makes the object fall quickly. However, the parachute slows the person down because it causes air resistance as it pushes the parachute back up and creates an opposite gravitational force. The forces "push or a pull" are called action and reaction forces, the subject of newton's third law. During this investigation, the push force is the air resistance and opposite (pull) force is the gravity. It is predicted that four–sided parachute will take more time to reach the ground because the larger the surface area, more air particles hit/collide with the parachute, as shown in diagram 2. Nevertheless, the smaller the surface area of the parachute, fewer air particles collide and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Just make sure you know what you are doing before you jump. You will have very little time to react while you are plunging towards the ground. Think to yourself, is this a good decision? Just the previous night we had received 4 hours of classroom training in how to perform a successful "Skydive" and now we would receive 4 more hours of practical, hands–on training. Sivi and I have spent a lot of time talking with, and taking care of Senior Citizens on a volunteer basis. Through many conversations, we discovered that one of the major regrets that people have, as the near the end, is that they didn't experience everything that they wanted to when they were younger. The major reason for this was fear. Fear that they would fail or fear that they might be injured. Sivi ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Our group's task was to master the skill of jumping into a gravel pit from the top of a 4 foot platform and rolling "gently" to one side, thus minimizing the force of the contact. Our instructor, a young man of about 30, demonstrated just how easy this was. He also explained that at the end of our "real" jump we could possibly hit the ground at a fairly high speed and that only by mastering this "rolling" technique would we be able to avoid breaking an ankle, a leg, or even worse. With this dire message still ringing in our ears, we proceeded to line up, one behind the other, and jump into the gravel pit. Sivi was first and did just fine. When it was my turn, I felt pretty confident because of my past athletic experience. Unfortunately, this past experience did me very little good. I hit the ground too stiff legged and jammed my head right into the ground. Boy, was I glad to have on that pink helmet. My instructor was happy to have me to use as an example of what not to do. "See, that is how you break your ankle. Now keep practicing until you get it right." he bellowed to my fellow jumpers. We all jumped maybe 30 times into that gravel pit, and we were all very grateful to move on to our next trial. The idea came from the one and only Leonardo Da Vinci about the1480's. He came up with the idea on paper. He actually never built the idea. But he is noted for the first person to come up with the idea of the parachute. Some people say during ancient Chinese age; they came up with the idea. It is written in history that Leonardo Da Vinci made a sketch of the invention with this description; "If a man have a tent made of linen of which the apertures (openings) have all been stopped up, and it be twelve braccia (about 23 feet) across and twelve in depth, he will be able to throw himself down form any great height without suffering any injury." The notion remained unmade until Sebastien Lenormand in 1783 walked off the top of the Montpellier observatory then, a few seconds later, landed on the ground intact. It is said that he came up with the word parachute. He crossed the French prefix paracete. Meaning to protect against, and chute. The French word for fall; it all together it meant to describe the devise's purpose. The next person to make an impact was a man named André–Jacques Garnerin. He was known for taking High altitudes from a hydrogen balloon. His wife Jeanne–Genevieve; became the first female to parachute. There are two factors that we need to consider before we make the decision. The first factor is time. How long will it take us to populate five hundred and twenty full versions OMR and OMR summary? Our office has promised to provide the report by the second week of October. The second factor is the ability to understand the report. The two stories "Breaking through Uncertainty" and "Neighbours" are both stories about how big the benefits are when risks have been taken. The first short story is about how a skydiver must overcome his own uncertainty, to save himself from certain death. While the other story is still dramatic, just in a different tone; it's about a young woman, who must decide whether or not a friendship is worth standing up for something that's right. The protagonists in both stories, have to take risks, and they're both rewarded for taking those risks; one with his life, and the other with a stronger friendship. Even though the skydiver is risking his life, the protagonist in "Neighbours" had more gut to do what she had to do, where is the skydiver just let second nature take over. Above all, the protagonists both did experience serious risk–taking moments, and they both benefited for the greater good. "Breaking Through Uncertainty" by Jim McCormick is about how a skydiver is plummeting to his death, and he has got to figure out how to save himself. All the while the skydiver must deal with his self–doubt. In paragraph eight, we see actually how much danger the skydiver is in "I looked up to assess my canopy and saw something I don't often see; the horizon clearly visible ABOVE the trailing edge of my canopy." Evaluate The Accuracy Of Parachute Results Overall, I think the experiment went well, but the results collected at the end were invalid and reasonably inaccurate, however, on the other hand, errors and mistakes occurred during the investigation. The dropping time of the parachute was not accurate because it went off course, so it is not reliable as we could not control the factors which affected the parachute. This is because the parachute had more air resistance, but the weight force was less and took way too much time to reach the ground. For example; the weather and weight affected the parachute's drop time and we could've tested the parachute from different heights to get more accurate and valid results. My results prove my prediction correct that large surface area parachutes will take more time to land as more air particles hit with the parachute. This explains that the parachute will take more time to reach the ground safely. My team tried to make the surface area of the parachute as large as possible, so there would be more air resistance because of the more the air resistance, the slower it will descend. Chronicle Of A Death Foretold By Gabriel Garcia Marquez In "Chronicle of a Death Foretold" by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, the author creates an interpretation of a small Colombian town, which is the home of a Narrator who recalls the details of the murder of a man named Santiago Nasar. Marquez employs a unique, non–linear narrative in order to detail the events and outcomes of the whole ordeal of both Santiago's death; in addition to the events that were transpiring during the matter. Spread intermittently throughout the narrative are traces of methodical, deliberate, and almost robotic practices that are followed by the inhabitants of the town. To put that in simple terms, Marquez portrays each significant action that every character takes as ritualistic in nature, and is evident from a small ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... "Angela Vicario only dared hint at the inconvenience of a lack of love, but her mother demolished it with a single phrase: "Love can be learned too.""(Chapter 2 Para 19). It is evident that personality, emotions, or values are not of importance to the people of this particular cultural setting, as much higher value is placed on materialistic behaviour as the most important factors of the union of a man and woman are wealth, and family name. One could metaphorically interpret it as a delegated procedure for a course with some kind of end result or goal. Another example within the novella that highlights Angela and Bayardo's ritualistic relationship is Angela's obsessive and abnormal tendency to write lengthy letters in great volume to Bayardo San Roman. She sends him a letter every week for seventeen years, filled with her deepest feelings. However, Bayardo never once opened a single letter. "He[Bayardo] was carrying a suitcase with...almost two thousand letters that she[Angela] had written him. They were arranged by date in bundle ties with colored ribbons, and they were all unopened"(Marquez). Her display of tenacity and love is so overwhelming that it eventually convinces Bayardo to come back to her. He doesn 't need to know what the letters say; the fact that she has written them so dutifully is enough to convince him of her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Commander Johnson's Coming Parachute Jump-Personal Narrative As I clutched onto my M1917 Enfield inside the sweaty and stuffy cabin of the Douglas DC3, ready for the coming parachute jump that could possibly be the last thing I would do. I was 19 when I was selected for war in 1942 to fight my country Great Britain. As minutes came to seconds it started to bug me about what was really going to happen to me down in treacherous battlefield below me. Out of the cabin window I could see the pot marked and war ruined land below. Commander Johnson, a tall and burly figure was the commander in charge of our squadron. He shouted from the door that we had thirty seconds until we jumped. I checked my harness and made sure my gear was securely attached. I lined up along with the rest of my squadron and ... I felt the dreaded tap on my back from the commander and knew that it was my turn to leap into the battlefield below. I could feel adrenalin making its way through out my body. I began sweating and felt sweat drip from my brow as I readied myself for the jump. He tapped me again telling me to hurry up. I leapt out and felt myself accelerate through the cold air before felling the sudden jolt as the parachute opened and slowed my decent. I felt weightless like a dandelion seed floating and being caught by the wind. I looked down and studied the violent battlefield that was approaching me slowly. I could see through the clear blue sky for miles but it was the same scene in every direction. Smoke, destruction and the eyesore of decimation all around. There were planes in the air and tanks on the ground and small figures that were men on the ground running. It looked just like a sand table in action. I could hear gunshots, ear piercing explosions from this height and mortars being fired. I could smell the strong smell of smoke from fires caused by explosives. As the ground got closer and the first of the paratroopers started to touch the ground I started to prepare myself for the coming landing. Seconds later the ground touched my feet before I swiftly undid my parachute and began to run toward the trench were I would meet with the rest of my squadron. I looked around for James my friend whom I had I last seen before he jumped out of the plane ahead, but I couldn't see him. I tripped up whilst running and fell. • 71. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Golden Parachutes Golden parachutes" get a lot of press, and they always sound like elite packages for high–level executives. Very few people get them, and very few people know how they work. Companies usually reserve them for executives at the top of the organization chart, and these contracts establish an agreed–upon compensation package that the employee would immediately receive upon termination. The benefits package usually includes a list of specific terms that explain what the terminated employee will receive. How a Golden Parachute Works When someone is offered an executive position at a firm, the contract will often include a golden parachute clause. This clause states the amount of severance pay, stock options, and cash bonuses that he or she would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Expose the fact that executives may not be objective in the event of a takeover. During a merger or any other agreement that may affect a company's future, an executive has a sworn duty to look after the company's best interests. Critics argue that they shouldn't need a golden parachute to remain objective during this process. 5. May not necessarily discourage hostile takeovers. Golden parachutes make up a small percentage of the cost of a merger. In the scheme of things, they're not a major inhibiting factor when it comes to preventing hostile takeovers. Classic Examples of Golden Parachutes There are a number of famous cases involving the use of golden parachutes. Many of these cases have fueled outrage on the part of investors, the general public, and in some cases, law enforcement. Some of the most noteworthy cases include: Tony Hayward of British Petroleum Tony Hayward was the CEO of British Petroleum (BP) during one of the most infamous oil spills in history. He was subsequently fired for poor leadership, but he left with a severance package of over $1 million (the same amount he'd make in a year) and a pension close to $12 million. This agreement created headlines such as "$12M Payoff for Captain ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Mission Command Essay Mission Command Paper Operation Market Garden: Battle of Arnhem With German forces on the run following the Allied success at Normandy and the breakout and pursuit across France, Allied forces were staged to enter Germany in late summer 1944. Both Field Marshal Montgomery and General Bradley clamored to be given the priority of effort. General Eisenhower chose Montgomery's Operation MARKET GARDEN as the plan for action. It called for airborne forces to open the route for a ground force to move more than sixty miles up a single road, ending up north of the Rhine River near Arnhem, Netherlands. By accomplishing this task, the German Ruhr industrial heartland would be within easy grasp. But the operation failed. The ground force ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They decided they'll have to land in an open area eight miles (13 km) from the bridge. With more of his officers disagreeing with distance, Urquhart told his officers they will use the gliders to transport jeeps to make the travel to Arnhem. However, due to the ambush, most jeeps didn't arrive or was shot up and damaged beyond use. It has been opined that if he had been an experienced airborne commander, Urquhart may have been more determined to oppose the decision to land the whole Division 8 miles from the bridge, rather than drop the parachutists much closer to it. It is a point that those who knew the General would refute without difficulty. However it is true that his objection to the poor air plan could have been stronger than it was, but it must be remembered that Urquhart had to plan an entire operation in only seven days, and so when faced with stubborn opposition from fellow commanders he had little option but to accept the situation and move on. Nevertheless, these failings in the plan sealed the fate of Market Garden before it had begun. The initial airborne drops caught the Germans totally by surprise, and there was little resistance. MG Urquhart, later wrote that "ever since the first landing, General Bittrich commander of the II SS Panzer Corps and his staff had expected the British second lift.'' • 75. Base Jumping Is Becoming Known As One Of The Most Extreme... Base jumping is becoming known as one of the most extreme sports the world knows. To successfully BASE jump one must bound from an "exit point", and free fall from very high places. People say it's too dangerous, and should be outlawed completely. On the other hand, people like the late Dean Potter used to successfully jump with his dog in a backpack as he would leap off cliffs falling as much as 3000 feet towards the ground. BASE jumping is amazing, and isn't for everyone, but it should at the least remain someone's choice to do it or not in my opinion. Its known as BASE jumping, and BASE is an acronym that stands for buildings, antennae, spans, and earth such as cliffs and mountains (Tara L. Allman). These are all places BASE jumpers hurdle from. They go to these places to perform their sport, leaping off into the void and free falling. Before smashing into the ground, they deploy their parachute. There is a high likelihood you will die if you make any mistakes. So you are effectively saving your own life every time you do it. Simple right? Not by a long shot. This sport is a huge undertaking. You start off a student, and only after years learning under a mentor, do you get to wear the invisible badge of BASE Jumper. BASE jumping is widely viewed by the public as dangerous and too risky. In many countries and states of the US, BASE jumping is illegal. In addition, not only is the act of jumping illegal, but BASE jumpers are often trespassing on someone's property to ... The Golden Parachute MGMT 322 G1 INTERNATIONAL CORPORATE GOVERNANCE AND STRATEGY THE GOLDEN PARACHUTE Prepared for: Professor Toru Yoshikawa By: Matthew Lim Zhi Liang S9118245I An Introduction to the Golden Parachute When we talk about executive compensation, one topic that never fails to come up is the Golden Parachute. The Golden Parachute, as the name suggest is an executive safety net of sorts that is included in the employment contracts of senior–level executives. Basically it is a special payment – usually a lump–sum amounting to millions, that is paid in the event of a change in control of the company1. The reasons for the implementation of the Golden Parachute is something that has been constantly debated, but the most common ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... That could occur if a company chooses to adopt the Golden Parachute Alignment of Management & Shareholder Interest As mentioned at the beginning of this paper, one of the main objectives of the Golden Parachute is to control the behaviour of management in a acquisition event. During a acquisition event, the bidding company or the acquirer would often bypass the executives and the management and go straight to the shareholders, offering a premium over the current trading share price, which can be seen as a increase to shareholder wealth5. However, often times once the acquiring company gains control, the acquired company's management is usually either sidelined or dismissed from the company. That being the case, there inherently exist a conflict between the interest of the management (to preserve their source of income) and the interest of shareholders (to maximise wealth). Management as has been well established in the corporate world has the duty to act in a way that is in the interest of the shareholders, and often this involves making decisions that maximise shareholder wealth. However, in light of the prospect of losing their jobs after a acquisition,
