The Is An Individual Feel Expressed
Overgeneralizing is thinking that there is a pattern happening after only one event and/or being
overly broad in conclusions. Overgeneralizing can make an individual feel stressed. Feeling stressed
can cause negative thoughts, which will cause negative performances. With overgeneralizing comes
neurotic perfectionism. Since the athlete is not getting the results they want right away, they start to
believe that they will not get the outcome they would like to see. For example, if an athlete does not
perform as well as they thought they could in one practice, when they usually perform very well,
they may come to a conclusion that nothing is going right and nothing will go right. They will begin
to determine that they are not going to play in their upcoming game just because they practiced
poorly once. This can begin to cause stress on the person, which will mentally weaken their
performance.
Although I am not involved in a sport here at Drake, I found overgeneralizing in myself when it
came to academics. I did poorly on one of my first tests this semester, and I started to overgeneralize
and begin to think that I am going to perform poorly on all the professors' exams because I did
poorly on one. This caused my body a great deal of stress and caused me to do just about the same
on the second test. Once I started to look at the whole picture, I began to stress less and perform
better on their exams. If an athlete is feeling the same way about their sport as I did about my

What Causes Romeo And Juliet To Blame
Blame is when a person assigns blame to others. People resort to blame because it soften the blow
for them and helps relieve them from feeling guilty. In the play Romeo and Juliet, blame plays the
factor of placing the deaths of Romeo and Juliet into someone's hand so their families could have
peace. Blame is placed when people know they are wrong but no not want the guilt. Romeo and
Juliet are both to blame for their deaths. Both of them together made rash decisions and did not wait
to tell the other person their plans to stay together. In the play Juliet went to Friar Laurence hoping
to protect herself from her father. She took a drink from a substance he gave her without Romeo
knowing and Romeo saw her after thinking she was dead so he drank poison to be with her. It
caused the ripple effect of them wanted to do everything to be together but they did one thing after
another and caused their own death. Following this, Romeo got himself in trouble for Juliet because
he was not thinking through situations. He always put himself first before thinking about Juliet and
Juliet would always put Romeo before her. This caused them to both ... Show more content on

He caused a boundary between him and Juliet which made Juliet distance and because he wanted to
arrange her marriage she went to the enemy, who she loved, to get away from her father. When
Juliet's father found out about her not wanting to marry Paris, he wanted to injure her by saying "my
figures ich". Instead of Juliet listening to her father she wanted to get away from him more and went
to Friar laurence to get the Substance. This caused her still sleep through the set wedding day but
Romeo did not know this so he drank the poison and Juliet stabbed herself after seeing Romeo dead
to be with him. This showed Capulet that his daughter was gone because of the feud between him
and the Montagues. He could have stopped the feud but chose to keep it alive so he caused the

The Friar Is To Blame In Shakespeare's Romeo And Juliet
To blame is to assign responsibility for a fault or wrong that has been done. People may resort to
blame as a form of defense. When someone is accused, it is suggested that something bad has
happened and it is now their responsibility. Following, in Romeo and Juliet, the two teens commit
suicide for their love. Many people were accused for their sudden deaths, but do not take the blame
or responsibility for it. When something bad happens, the first thing people look for is who to
blame. In Romeo and Juliet, the friar has a lot of the blame put on him, but is quickly forgiven
because of his place with God. The friar is at fault because he was the one to bring Romeo and Juliet
together in marriage. Romeo ran to the friar and asked if he could marry him and Juliet. The friar ...

If the friar said no and refused to marry them, Romeo and Juliet would not have gotten together and
Juliet would be forced to marry Paris.
The Capulet parents are condemned as well. If their family was nice, respectful and loving to Juliet
then there would be no reason for her to run off and disobey her family's rules. In the movie, Juliet's
father treats Juliet like garbage and Juliet's nurse is wildly inappropriate to Juliet and her mother.
Juliet's mother, lady Capulet, does not acknowledge Juliet as much as a mother should, and typically
ignores Juliet's presence. Juliet's father is known to sexually harass her and known for being an
alcoholic. In the movie, Juliet is having a nervous breakdown because Romeo had been banished.
The Capulet parents are fed up with Juliet's behavior and force her to marry Paris, but when Juliet
refuses, Capulet comes barging in and yells that she is worthless and to never talk to him again if
she does not do what is asked of her. Juliet gets pushed around the room by her father until the nurse
steps between them to break it up. The Capulet parents are just looking for a way

Victor Frankenstein Reflection
Victor Frankenstein, an egocentric scientist, decides to defy the laws of nature and act as if he was
God. When he successfully creates life, the moment he looks at the creature he shrieks in horror.
The hideousness of the creature causes Victor to run away in fear leaving the "newborn" to survive
by itself. When Victor returns back to an empty apartment, he rejoices and thinks his problem has
vanished. Between Victor Frankenstein and the creature, Victor is the bigger monster because he
feels no remorse for his actions while the creature regrets many of his wrong doings despite both
seeking revenge.
The creature, born with "feelings of happiness and affection", is a reflection of Victor as a young
boy, full of joy and love. The creature and Victor share these uplifting traits in the beginning of their
lives, but their spirits drastically change when one wrongs the other. The selfishness and
irresponsibility rushing through Victors veins lead to the destruction of the creature's heart. Due to
Victor's resignation of being the father figure of the creature; the creature seeks vengeance on Victor
indirectly. Both Victor and the creature become obsessed with seeking revenge on the other to cause
everlasting pain. They both get so ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, "I am content to suffer alone while my sufferings shall endure.." This shows the
overpowering guilt the creature has to battle and as he undergoes this misery, he concludes it's an
acceptable punishment for the deaths, and agony he has caused. Victor's opinion was vastly different
stating, " he devoted to destruction," which shows the displacement of blame from himself to the
creature. Victors megalomaniac self believes his "duty" to the human race was to create life not to
care for it. The arrogance inside of Victor overpowers all his favorable traits, eliminating the loyal
man, leaving a

The Consequences Of Blame In Romeo And Juliet
Blame is the action of placing fault on someone else's shoulders in order to take responsibility off of
ours. People resort to blame because they do not want to own up to the responsibility and the
consequences following the fault. The quote,"We live in a culture of blame. People will blame
anyone or anything for their misery sooner than to take responsibility to own it and make it better,"
is an excerpt of a book written by psychologists Dr. Henry Cloud and Dr. John Townsend. Blame
comes into play during Romeo and Juliet, because the fault of the couple's death rests on the
shoulders of King Capulet and Friar Laurence. Capulet and Friar Laurence are to blame for Romeo
and Juliet's deaths, because the Friar marries them in the first place, ... Show more content on

The Friar's decision to marry Romeo and Juliet is significant, because that is what caused Romeo to
aggravate Tybalt, eventually leading into two deaths of royalty. In Romeo and Juliet, although the
priest easily could have decided not to marry the two, whom originate from warring sides of a city,
marries them anyway. The Friar was fully aware of the inevitable consequences foreshadowed to
come. This is illustrated when Romeo pleads to the Friar to marry the pair, to which the priest
fiercely denies. Over the course of only a few minutes, the Friar sees an image of God and has the
divine inspiration to marry them. This piece of the play creates a ripple effect, in which Romeo
emerges from the church in an excited, happy manner, escalating the situation between Mercutio and
Tybalt, which then eventually fell into a downward spiral towards Romeo and Juliet's graves.
Moreover, the priest's settlement to marry Romeo and Juliet signifies importance, because his
loyalty to his overall conclusion to marry them ultimately lead to their deaths. This is expressed in
the scene where he provides a solution to Juliet to delay her marriage. As Juliet comes crying to the
Friar after everyone in her household has betrayed her, he offers her a solution in which she will
sleep for 48 hours. Juliet impulsively agrees and snatches the bottle, quickly thanking him and
running home to sleep. By handing her the potion first, the priest sets their graves in stone by not
telling Romeo the plan, causing confusion, and ultimately,

Examples Of Fear In Purple Hibiscus
Imagine living in dramatic fear, someone who loves you, puts you through abuse, depression, and
demolishing your self–esteem. How does a person grow from such a traumatic experience and
become brave? Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie was born on September 15, 1977 in Enugu, Nigeria.
During her senior year at Eastern, she started working on her first novel, Purple Hibiscus, which was
released in October 2003. Adichie demonstrates bravery and growth in humanity. Kambili and her
family's lives are followed throughout Purple Hibiscus. Kambili and her family live through fear of
Papa, they are silent and are afraid to stand up for themselves. Fear suppresses our individuality and
confidence– thus; it controls humanity and hinders us from bravery and growth.
Fear can have complete control, accustoming one to feel complacent with their status quo. Kambili
and her family are frightened their whole life– they're afraid of change as well their father's strict
ideals that stops them from letting go and growing as an individual. "This cannot go on, nwunye m,'
Aunty Ifeoma said. 'When a house is on fire, you run out before the roof collapses on your head."
(213). Theoretically speaking, Aunty uses a metaphor that if a house is on fire, we must run out
before the roof crumbles. She is relating this to the Achike household, proving that the pain that the
family is enduring must end. Aunty Ifeoma was ashamed of Mama for going back to Eugene, even
though he was the cause of her miscarriage. In the

Treatment of Eve in Paradise Lost Essay
The treatment of eve in Paradise Lost
We can see the poem deals with the entire story of man's fall from grace, including background for
Satan's motives. In Paradise Lost, Eve was tricked by Satan, who assumed the form of a serpent,
into eating from the Tree of Knowledge. Satan had whispered into her ear when she was asleep, and
when he spoke to her later, he used his cunning to mislead her:
He ended, and his words replete with guile
Into her heart too easy entrance won.
Fixed on the fruit she gazed, which to behold
Might tempt alone, and in her ears the sound
Yet rung of his persuasive words, impregned
With reason, to her seeming, and with truth,
(Paradise Lost, 733–739).

Eve's speech affects Adam. He becomes calm, consoling her and sharing responsibility for their fall.
They must stop blaming each other, he says. They must live with their mistakes and make the most
out of their fallen state.
We can also see that god punished Eve and all women that they will give birth in pain, and must
submit to their husbands.
Now I will talk about how milton portrayed eve in his writing. Milton sees Eve as Narcissus. For
many hundreds of years, the female has been seen as the weaker sex the gentle sex, the docile sex,
even the less intelligent sex. And this is because, for many hundreds of years, the societies that
humanity lived in were based mainly on survival. Necessity of women remained in the home in
order to further the mere survival of the species, while men were in charge of providing for this
family unit. Through this situation, men developed an egocentric view of life, seeing themselves as
the centers of their own microcosms. Humans always look for someone else on whom to place the
blame any man would be pleased if he were able to place all of the evil of humanity on to a poor
decision made by a woman. This view of Eve makes her a flat and undeveloped character. She is
vain, falls in love with herself at first sight in the glimmering pool, and can barely stand to tear
herself away from the water to be with Adam. As usual, this episode of her self–absorbed conceit
only contributes to the already growing compassion for Adam,

Tragic Definitions
Mary cannot be blamed for being introduced to morphine and Tyrone cannot be condemned for his
poor Irish upbringing. However, Tyrone chose to postpone dealing with his son's tuberculosis until it
was too late, which put a strain on their relationship. And, Mary voluntarily chastises her sons as a
means to distract from her erratic behavior causing a riff in their relationships. The Tyrones' are the
writers of their own tragedy. They cannot blame anyone but themselves for the sorry sight that is
their reality. In Eugene O'Neill's Long Day's Journey Into Night, the characters have no control over
the obstacles they face, but it's their use of deceit and aversion tactics in dealing with their state of
affairs that defines their tragic fate.

The family is constantly "inching forward and moving backward,"(Brustein 195). As soon as they
get to the point of conceding they back down and forget. "But even at the moment that the truth is
being blurted out, an apologetic retraction is being formed," says Sewall in his analysis. They may
try to face their problems but not to an extent of actually resolving anything. It's as though the
family believes but ignoring their problems they are better helping the family, yet it is this that leads
to the family's breaking of bonds. The Tyrones' make themselves out to be prisoners of their pasts by
using excuses to cover–up their faults which ultimately lead to their failed relationships. The men in
the family never explicitly tell Mary they are concerned about her, her addiction, and that they wish
to help her. They take no responsibility in helping Mary yet constantly complain about how her
addiction has affected the family. Their lives are tragic but they are the sole writers of their tragedy.
The Tyrones' continually use their circumstances as a patsy for the failed familial relationships that
are caused by their deceitful nature. The Tyrones' are in a constant state of denial, as they never once
acknowledge that their reactions have an impact on their lives. They believe that by averting the
blame for their actions they can avoid the consequences, but they ultimately find out that

Youth Violence Essay
Youth Violence
Youth violence is an escalating problem in American society today. There are many different factors
that can be blamed for this problem. During the last decade of the twentieth century people began
searching for answers to this dilemma which is haunting America. Many tragic school shootings
have taken place within the last decade that have gained the attention of the public. As of now, no
one can give the right answer to the problem or the reason that it happens because there is no right
answer yet and nobody can be sure that they know the cause. All we have to go by are the opinions
of different people. The most popular cause of the problem of youth violence is the media. In "The

This statement brings up another opinion, the opinion that children's behavior stems from their
parents' or elders' behaviors. A young male, who is brought up in a violent household, is more likely
to be violent outside of the home. This idea brings us back to the saying monkey see, monkey do;
what children see is what they will do. Among our many solutions to youth violence is the idea that
too many guns are not the problem, but too few guns is the problem. "The Colorado Legislature is
currently debating a bill to further enhance the state's conceal–carry statute. Those backing the
measure say that a teacher or administrator with a concealed gun could have stopped, or greatly
minimized, the Littleton tragedy." (Lee 255) Lee says, "Blaming guns for such incidents...is
ludicrous." His solution to our rising problem of youth violence is not censoring the media, but is
bringing more guns in the mainstream. This does not mean children walking around school armed. It
means putting more guns into the right hands. At first glance this proposals sounds pretty good.
When one puts some thought into it, it somewhat changes their perspective on the issue. Does this
solution seem ethical; giving guns

Scapegoat Research Paper
A scapegoat is someone or something that receives all the blame for when something goes wrong.
Scapegoats have been humanity's way of pointing the finger and ignoring any wrongdoing that may
have led to a failure. No one ever wants to take responsibility when a failure occurs, but there's
always someone around to take the glory if success is achieved. Historically speaking, scapegoats
were more of a reason people used to do bad things. Hitler, for instance, used the Jewish religion
and people who practiced it in his country as his scapegoat for trying to achieve domination. No one
wants to gain the responsibility and criticism that comes with failure, but appointing a scapegoat
seems to be the easy way of dealing with it. In ancient societies, scapegoats were very popular and
there were even specific animals and people who would be sacrificed if something went wrong. I
think that was done more as part of religious practice, but the idea of a scapegoat taking the blame
still stands. The people would most likely have been criminals or problematic people in the society
and who would easily be accepted as a scapegoat for any failures experienced. As time continued,
scapegoats were not as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Analysis Of Under The Influence By Scott Russell Sanders
After reading "Under the Influence " by Scott Russell Sanders I was able to write about certain
criteria's in task three which was to identify the exact purpose/intent/objective of the essay. Also, I
was able to identify what the essay should have accomplished in the reader after it has been read.
Other things that I was able to identify, and state were the main idea (thesis, claim, premise) of the
essay. The final thing that I was able to identify, and state were ideas related to the thesis idea, either
stated, explicitly or suggested, that would help develop and support the thesis and the purpose of the
essay. The exact purpose/ intent/ objective of the essay "Under the Influence" is to state that in life
there will be many hardships, and some may have it rougher than others, but there are better ways to
cope with certain things in a more positive way then just a negative way. Coping in a positive way
benefits the person themselves and the loved ones around them. For example, when coping with
certain things there's always alternatives than taking the negative of way and getting a drinking or
drug problem. Scott Russell Sanders talks about his stress and coping mechanism he uses for his
own benefit and his family's benefit. He states that "And that crushing sense of responsibility is
exactly what I felt at the age of ten in the face of my father's drinking. My son wonders if I too, am
possessed. I write, therefore, to drag into light what eats at me– the fear, the guilt,

Blame In Romeo And Juliet
Blame is to put someone else at fault for something he or she did. In life people resort to blame,
because it's easier on the person who's at fault to relieve some of that fault on another person. Blame
plays a factor in Romeo and Juliet when both Tybalt and Mercutio were fighting and they both
ended up dying and the Prince ends up putting the blame of their deaths on Romeo to make sure
both sides come to a stand point. The factors to blame for both Romeo and Juliet's death was Friar
Lawrence. The quote by Dr. Henry Cloud and Dr. John Townsend ties in with this, because Friar
Lawrence was the main reason they ended up killing themselves. Friar Lawrence not being able to
notify Romeo in time about Juliet faking her death is an example of the

Analysis Of Hillbilly Elegy : A Memoir Of A Family And...
Every year, there are millions of people that suffer from mental illness, addiction, or both. Not only
do the people who have a mental illness or addiction suffer, but so do their families, friends, and
loved ones. Therefore, mental illness and addiction are two topics that can easily spark controversy
when it comes to two areas of concern: blame and solutions. Many people have strong feelings
when it comes to the institutions and processes surrounding mental illness and addiction. Ex–

Throughout the conclusion of the memoir, he makes his views on the existence of issues in the
hillbilly community very prominent. For example, Vance directly states his views on the state of
despair within the community of the hill people in this quote: "These problems were not created by
the government or corporations or anyone else. We created them, and only we can fix them."
Another quote that showcases this ideology is "I don 't know what the answer is, precisely, but I
know it starts when we stop blaming Obama or Bush or faceless companies and ask ourselves what
we can do to make things better." The fact that Vance consistently reiterates this idea in the
conclusion shows that there is an extremely likely chance that Vance strongly believes that issues
such as addiction and mental illness and the processes in which they develop are not the result of
wrong–doings of the government, but the self–inflicted consequences of a, not only hillbilly, but
human tradition of making bad choices. However, direct statements in the conclusion is not the only
way that Vance insinuates this belief.
Even though Vance directly states his stance in the conclusion, throughout the entirety of the
memoir, he uses some of the tools of rhetoric, the art of persuasion, to try to persuade his audience
to agree with him. One rhetoric tool that he uses very well is issue control. The three sub–tools of
issue control are blame, values, and choice; all of which Vance uses. For

Who Is To Blame For The Muslim Reaction By Ibn Al-Athir
There is always two sides to every story and when in comes to war people always pass the blame to
the other side. When going through "The Muslim Reaction" by Ibn al–Athir the goal was to discover
which people were responsible for what different events, which led up to the conquering of
Jerusalem by the Franks. There is always more player behind the scenes and more stories than are
told in the broad histories. There are questions that have to be answered first is why do the Franks
go to Jerusalem, second which of their own failures the Muslims are actually responsible for, and
lastly what happens in Jerusalem. The Franks original plan was to go to Africa after having
conquering Sicily. However, King Roger "raised one leg and farted loudly" because of all the
damage this would do for him. If the Franks were to go to Africa Roger would lose money, supplies,
troops, resources, and would be breaking a treaty. This would all be if the Franks succeeded, if they
failed Roger would be blamed for the failure by his people and would not be able to push that blame
onto King Baldwin (the king with the Franks). "Africa will always be there. When we are strong ...

Causes Of Mistakes And Blame Come Hand In Hand
Mistakes and Blame Come Hand–in–Hand
Blaming others for things they did not commit is something everyone undertakes at least once in
their life. There is always going to be a few individuals who address their mistakes on everyone, but
themselves. It is a mainstream issue that whenever a person does something wrong they will try to
shift the blame to other people, so they would not hold the responsibility anymore. This is
something which is repeatedly inattentively thought out. Whereas, some people are intentional about
their behavior, they will often be referred to, as the 'blame–shifters'. Blaming someone innocent will
not always be simple, and at the same time they have to convince their inner selves that they are
right, whether or not, they would be valid in reality. There are several major reasons and causes why
a person shifts the blame to others, but some people have it in their nature or have adopted it from
their former life experiences, and it is so universal that several films and literature have adopted it as
a theme.

incapable or helpless to admit their own mistakes, so in return they will approach the obvious way
and become 'blame–shifters', and blame others. However, some people are naturally more likely to
blame others and develop the qualities needed for it, because of their personality. Nevertheless,

The God of Small Things by Arundhati Roy
From what I have read so far in the book, "The God of small Things," there are many major themes
that have captivated my attention. Those include "The Love Laws," how the relationship between
Chacko and Margaret got to the point of love, the blame and guilt between the characters, and of
course "Communism." Based on four these themes many things have gone wrong for the lives of the
characters, especially with, "Blame and Guiltiness."
Love and rules (Love Laws), are constantly butting heads in the book. Ammu and Velutha's love is
forbidden because of their social status differences. Rahel and Estha's love is also expressed.
Mammachi's feelings toward, Chacko, also blur the lines between familial and romantic love. The
breaking of the, "Love Laws" by Velutha, leaded to his death, a punished dead man. In the
adulthood, Estha and Rahel were two of the ones that broke it too. "Only that once again they broke
the Love Laws." "That lay down who should be loved. And how. And how much."
Another theme in the book is based on Communism in Ayemenem. The author Arundhati Roy seems
to suggest that even, Communist's is not faultless as it seems in the assumption that workers, "have
nothing to lose but their chains." But the fact remains that the job they have is a privilege, something
that is not available to many people in the Indian population. The India shown in the book, have a

Aritotle's Voluntary and Involuntary Actions Essay
Aristotle's "Nicomachean Ethics" generally focuses on living a virtuous life and having virtuous
characteristics. In Book III Chapter II of "Nicomachean Ethics", Aristotle focuses on different types
of actions. He divides actions into three categories: voluntary, involuntary and nonvoluntary.
Aristotle makes this distinction mainly because his evaluation of someone's actions depends
primarily on whether their actions are voluntary, involuntary, or nonvoluntary. Aristotle describes
voluntary actions as those actions driven by an individual's ambition, passions or desires. "It is only
voluntary feelings and actions for which praise and blame are given" (Book.III Ch.I). Praise and
blame presuppose that our actions are done voluntarily. The ... Show more content on

The man did not voluntarily fall on the gardener, which make his actions involuntary. In this case,
the man had no control over the outcome and was not fully aware of the circumstances surrounding
his actions. Aristotle also explains that an act committed because of ignorance or force that is later
regretted would be classified as involuntary. Aristotle makes a fine distinction between involuntary
and nonvoluntary actions. According to Aristotle, ignorance of the particular facts of a given
situation may be excused; however, ignorance of acceptable versus unacceptable behavior is evil
and cannot be excused. Also if someone commits an act, then that action's classification is based on
the person's response to the consequences of the action. For instance a woman swinging a bat, and
unbeknownst to her, a little boy walks directly behind her and is then struck in the head. The
woman, overcome with regret, acted involuntarily; however if the woman saw the consequences act
without regret, her act would be classified as non voluntary. The situation is not voluntary, but how
the woman responded was voluntary. " and the man who does not repent may, since he is different,
be called a not voluntary agent; for, since he differs from the other, it is better that he should have a
name of his own" (Book III Ch. I). Aristotle examined voluntary, involuntary, and no voluntary
actions, primarily to set the stage for

Comparison Of The Project Who's To Blame In Romeo And Juliet
DBQ Project Who's to Blame Blame is a word used to describe those who have some type of fault in
a situation. Love can cause great emotions, yet it can also cause tragedies. When your love is strong
enough it can also be dangerous, Romeo and Juliet caused the death of six people in a course of
three days just so they can be together. In Romeo and Juliet there are many to blame for the cause of
each death, but the most responsible for this situation are those who follow: Juliet, Nurse, and Friar
Lawrence. Juliet could have stopped the death of six people if she only told the truth. The Nurse,
also one to blame, could have spoke out and helped out in the situation. At last, Friar Lawrence, he
could have made the choice not to marry Romeo and Juliet, yet all he wanted was for the Capulets

Victims and Creators in My Life Essay
The way a person act can really determine the way another person perceives them as an individual.
A person can either be judged as a victim or a creator in every situation. A victim is a person who
always has an excuse for everything. They never take full responsibility for their actions, it's always
somebody else fault for their problem. A creator is someone that's a leader. They play as role models
in lives. They always find a solution and try their very best ion every situation to succeed. Every
person is defined by one or the other personality trait.
A person I know that's a victim is a young coworker of mine. Every time something goes wrong and

ways that I do things in my everyday life. I will start hanging around more positive people that are

to be successful in college this semester. To change that I am going to start getting in bed at a decent

When I rush through my homework I don't put forth my best effort. That when I make mistakes that
I wouldn't have made if I was taking my time. Another thing I can do to be successful this semester
is get negative thoughts out of my mind when it comes to certain classes. If I tell myself that I can
do well and actually put forth the time and effort to pass the class then I will do good in the class. I
will keep positive thoughts flowing throughout my brain. Being a creator is a more positive outlook

Positive Reflection On Divorce
Linda is a 36–year–old newly–divorced woman. Her early childhood experiences include her
parents' divorce. Due to her parents' divorce and the following feelings of pressure to conform and
agree to each parent, Linda has developed strong beliefs about her life, particularly her marriage.
These are expressed through Linda's dislike of divorce and her desire to keep her children happy and
innocent, Linda feels that she has failed in both cases and feels guilty and responsible for 'failing'.
However, Linda did admit that her mother's general disapproval and opinion that Linda was to
blame for the divorce may have influenced her thoughts. Due to the sudden divorced her
(ex)husband has imposed, Linda feels very confused and alone, and she has furthered that by
sending her children away and not clearing things with her husband. Linda also does not know how
to move forward in her life, and is hesitant to do anything if it may affect her children. As a result,
Linda is very confused and mildly frustrated with the situation. Linda recognises that her memories
and previous feelings about parents' divorce may also be effecting her thoughts and feelings
currently.
In reviewing my practice, I can see that I used several skills very well, in particular the use of
empathetic silences and positive reflection.
An example of the positive reflection is when the client described how her mother was less
supportive and blamed the client for the divorce, in response I said:
"On the other hand, at least, your father, it sounds like he was very positive and supportive of you,
like her would be there for you...?" (17:58). Linda response was "Yeah, he was pretty great, and we
just talked about the future, and what I was going to do with my kids". Later in the practice (7:08)
after the client expressed feelings of helplessness, I asked her "As you said, you've been through
something similar, did you pick up an activities that helped?" in response she talked about drawing
and about her friends being supportive. I used empathetic silences regularly throughout the practice,
especially in the beginning of the video from 00:41 3:33 where I allowed the client to talk introduce
her original reason for coming, and again at 10:00 to 10:50,

Blame And Shame : Causes And Effects Of Bad Behavior
Many of us have heard the messages "shame on you" or "you should be ashamed of yourself."
Say this or are told this with positive intent of correcting "bad" behavior.
Shame motives people to correct bad behavior.
"The act of blaming, especially when it involves shaming, frequently results in behavioral responses
that inhibit the positive change we hope for" (Kelley, 83).
People can feel shame towards themselves because of poor decisions they have made and knowing
that others are looking down on them.
This can lead someone to make necessary changes to improve their lives, but can also make people
have resentment, anger and blame others (becomes a downward spiral).
Shame can lead to protecting oneself through anger and control.  When these strategies do not
work or are inappropriate one withdraws themselves and avoids.
Guilt usually motivates people to make things right, to restore the relationship and change future
behavior.
"Blame and shame are just concepts that often create a distance between ourselves and others, and
work against the eventual establishment of just relationships" (Kelley, 86).
"Blaming creates, and reflects, a relationship frame that is often not useful in creating and
maintaining just relationships" (Kelley, 86).
Attribution theory focuses on our needs, as human beings, to make sense of our world, ask why?
Why things happen the way they do, we need answers. Is someone to blame?

Comparing John Stuart Mill's The Subjection of Women and Florence Nightingale's Cassandra
For thousands of years, women have struggled under the domination of men. In a great many
societies around the world, men hold the power and women have to fight for their roles as equals in
these patriarchal societies. Florence Nightingale wrote about such a society in her piece, Cassandra,
and John Stuart Mill wrote further on the subject in his essay The Subjection of Women. These two
pieces explore the same basic idea, but there are differences as well. While they both recognize its
presence, Mill blames the subjection of women on custom, and Nightingale blames it on society.
These appear to be different arguments, but they may be more ... Show more content on

He feels that because women have been in this position for so many years, it would feel irregular to
deviate from it. "The subjection of women to men being a universal custom, any departure from it
quite naturally appears unnatural" (Mill 1157). As he continues, he reveals his thoughts on the
matter to the reader: "this relic of the past is discordant with the future, and must necessarily
disappear" (Mill 1159). Mill explores many aspects of the issue. He attempts to uncover the
differences between the sexes to provide maybe another solution to the problem, but to no avail,
"nothing final can be known" (Mill 1162); nothing is as strongly stated as when he places the blame
on custom. Later in his essay, while exploring the systems of past societies, he comes to the same
conclusion as earlier. Only this time, he states that there has been some improvement in the system
as time went by; however, equality has not yet been reached. He believes that the small increase in
power over time is enough to suggest that equality is the solution: "Through all...human history, the
condition of women has been approaching nearer to equality with men. This does not itself prove
that the assimilation must go on to complete equality; but it assuredly affords some presumption that
such is the case" (Mill 1160). This quote is yet another contribution to the blame of custom. In the
past, societies lacked equality

Analysis Of Lucky By Alice Sebold
Summary
Lucky by Alice Sebold's is a memoir in which she speaks about her traumatic experience that she
went through during her freshman year at Syracuse University in New York. Alice was beaten and
raped one night when she was walking alone back to her dorm. A black male grabbed her from
behind with a knife and told her that he would kill her if she screamed. The black male took Alice
into a tunnel where he beat her up and forced her to perform oral sex on him. Alice was still a virgin
prior to the rape. After the black male raped Alice, he showed feelings of remorse, he helped Alice
put her clothes back on. Alice lied and told him that it was okay and that she forgave him. Alice
reports the incident to the police and the officer tells Alice that she should consider herself lucky
because a girl had been killed in the same place where she was raped. The rape took a toll on Alice
because she seemed to pretend like it was okay when it was not. She started seeing everything
differently, every black male she came across she would be reminded of her rapist. Alice also
experienced trouble in relationships with men because she did not consider herself to be worthy of
any good guy because no guy would want her since she was a rape victim. Alice expressed anger
towards her rapist when she runs into him again one afternoon and he approaches her and says that
she looked familiar. Alice speaks about wanting to kill her rapist. Alice's rapist is taken into custody

The Crucible By Arthur Miller
Scapegoating Throughout Society

Crucible¨an essay by Arthur Miller, and ¨Half–Hanged Mary¨ a poem by Margaret Atwood, it shows
that a society under stress will always scapegoat a person or a group of people. Defending this
statement, people from each of these sources have felt betrayed by being blamed and persecuted for
actions they have not done. In The Crucible, Abigail and her friends choose to scapegoat people in
their society to push the attention away from them. In "Why I Wrote The Crucible", Arthur shares
with us about the communists and how it was a scapegoating society. In "Half–Hanged Mary", Mary
is blamed for witchcraft and hung for having land and being an independent woman. The Crucible,
by Arthur Miller, shows many situations where people have been accused of things they have not
done. Tituba, a slave owned by Reverend Parris is one of many to be accused of witchcraft. Abigail
felt under pressure for being found dancing naked in the woods, so she uses Tituba and blames her
for the entire scenario. "She sends her spirit on me in church; she makes me laugh at prayer!" (page

themselves and place it on people who are easy to blame. One of the girls, Mary Warren,

Demagoguery
Throughout history, when it comes to a national crisis, many leaders and politicians tend to advance
towards what the people want to hear. In order to gain their audience's support, most political
leaders and public speakers use the practice of demagoguery to have useful influence held towards
their argument. In Patricia Roberts–Miller's article "Democracy, Demagoguery, and Critical
Rhetoric," analyzes what demagoguery is and how it affects the audience. Speakers or authoritative
figures that engage with demagoguery use strategies such as scapegoating and polarization in order
to establish a separation between in–groups and out–groups; in–groups tend to form hateful
discrimination on out–groups and define them with negative features. An example of demagoguery
that Roberts–Miller uses is in Adolf Hitler's speech about how he wanted German people to change
their views and beliefs on the Jewish. Her article however, also consists of several fallacies and may
seem somewhat unethical. Throughout Wayne LaPierre's speech on the Newtown Tragedy in 2012,
there is usage of what Roberts–Miller claims to be demagoguery. Wayne LaPierre is the Vice
President of the National Rifle Association (NRA). After the shooting that occurred at Sandy Hook
elementary, LaPierre expresses his sympathy for the families of the loss and he then gathers the
attention of parents who may be uneasy about their children's safety at school. Throughout

Comparing Lord Of The Flies And To Kill A Mockingbird
Lord of the Flies vs To Kill a Mockingbird
In Lord of the Flies, British schoolboys are stranded on a tropical island. In an attempt to recreate
the civilization they left behind, they nominate Ralph as their leader, with the smart and rational
Piggy by his side. But Jack wants to lead, too, and one–by–one, he lures the boys from reason and
humanity to savagery and a survival and inhuman state; they become the hunters. In Lord of the
Flies, William Golding gives us a glimpse of the savagery that controls even the most civilized
human beings. In To Kill a Mockingbird, author Harper Lee uses interesting characters to explore
civil rights and racism in the segregated Southern United States of the 1930s. Narrated by Scout
Finch, you learn about her father Atticus Finch, an attorney who hopelessly fights to prove the
innocence of a black man wrongly accused of rape; and about Boo Radley, a mysterious neighbour
who saves Scout and her brother Jem from being killed.
Lord of the Flies and To Kill a Mockingbird are still relevant today, the events and themes are still
reflected in today's society such as scapegoating; blaming a person for the wrongdoings, mistakes,
or faults of others, especially for reasons of practicality. Piggy, Simon and the beast are examples of
scapegoats in Lord of the Flies and Tom Robinson and Boo Radley are scapegoats in To Kill a

The Aids Epidemic Of Haiti Essay
When a fatal disease becomes known to a society but lacks explanation our instinct as humans is to
jump to conclusions, whether they are logical or not. We bargain with our faith, we search for any
evidence to support our conjectures, we deny the truth of the disease, and we place blame on each
other. All of these desperate acts of justification are driven by fear–fear of the unknown. The
combination of fear and ignorance that pushes people to make conclusions is readily notable in the
AIDS epidemic of Haiti. Haitians reacted to AIDS in a similar manner as other cultures, but there
are also differences that are specific to their community. Like many cultures, Haitians reasoned the
occurrence of AIDS with explanations beyond the scope of medicine, with diseases that were known
to them, or were instead in complete denial. The uniqueness of the occurrence of AIDS in Haiti was
that there was no direct cause that could be addressed. Thus, while under significant scrutiny as the
origin of AIDS, Haitians reacted to the epidemic by blaming the existence of AIDS on poor
socioeconomic status, on sorcery, and on other people or countries.
As part of their reaction to AIDS, Haitians had a propensity to attribute the existence of AIDS to
poor populations. AIDS is indeed more prevalent among the lower socioeconomic class in Haiti, but
the perception as to why this pattern occurred went beyond the simple interpretation that AIDS was
a disease of the poor. In The Exotic and The

Blame In Romeo And Juliet Research Paper
Blame is defined as the allocation of responsibility for a wrongdoing. Individuals take it upon
themselves to blame others for a fault in order to avoid criticism from others and justify the errors
they have made themselves. Within the The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, a play written by William
Shakespeare, Romeo and Juliet blame their parents' feud for not allowing them to be together as if it
was a completely uncontrollable external source, killing themselves as a way to take control. In turn,
their deaths cause those living to question the reasoning behind their death, blaming each other to
divert attention to themselves as being responsible. The couple's death is primarily due to Friar
Laurence and Romeo and Juliet themselves.
The details of the plan Friar Laurence developed revolving Juliet's faux death were not explained to

Who Is To Blame In Romeo And Juliet
To blame someone means you accuse someone for an action that occurred and assign responsibility
for a fault or wrong that happened. In some cases, who to blame is a simple answer. In other cases, it
is extremely difficult to hold someone accountable, when in fact there are multiple people who are at
fault. In the case of Romeo and Juliet, countless people add to the tragedy that grew throughout the
story. Although, the main person who is at fault for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet, is Friar
Lawrence. Throughout the play, you see Friar Lawrence become more and more irresponsible in
many ways. The Friar made impulsive decisions without thinking and it caused a major disaster
throughout the town. Cause and effect scenarios occur from the beginning of the play to the end.
The biggest mistake the Friar made was marrying young Romeo and Juliet in secrecy. Not only
could the two lovers be punished by their families, but the Friar could have been executed or

Blame In Shakespeare's Romeo And Juliet
Blame is to find fault with or to hold responsible. Habitually, people resort to holding

In a way, Romeo and Juliet are to blame for their own death. Impulsiveness, such as that displayed

such as she still loves Romeo. As Capulet hears of Juliet's decline to marriage, he bursts into a rage,
calling Juliet worthless for being his only child and not doing anything for the sake of his status.
Capulet's anger goes to extreme lengths as he threatens to drag her to the church and expresses his
anger at Juliet by announcing he feels the urge to hurt her. As a result of experiencing this damage
throughout her childhood, Juliet may have viewed Romeo as a way to escape her father and his
abusive ways. In this case, Juliet stabbed herself after seeing Romeo dead, because she could not

Examples Of Catholism In Chronicle Of A Death Foretold
How is Catholicism critiqued in Chronicle of a Death Foretold through the character of Father
Amador In Chronicle of a Death Foretold, Márquez's characterisation of Father Carmen Amador, the
town's priest, as a ritualistic, incompetent and hypocritical man reveals and critiques the hollowness
of Colombian Catholicism. Though a minor character, Amador, a representation of the Church in a
predominantly Catholic society, is integral to an acute understanding of the novel.
"Amador", a Spanish name that translates to "lover of God", ostensibly portrays Father Amador as a
paragon of piety. In his role as a mediatory agent between man and God, the priest is responsible for
providing religious guidance and leadership in the town. Reflecting a consensus of his authority and
moral responsibility to prevent the murder, several townspeople send "peremptory" warnings of the

Animal Farm: The Three Things a Dictator Needs to Succeed...
A dictator is an authoritarian, often totalitarian ruler who assumes sole power over his state. They
have an extraordinary amount of personal power, especially the power to make laws without

There are three elements that the dictator, Napoleon has in the society in Animal Farm. The three
essential elements that a dictator needs to succeed are loyal supporters, followers who are ignorant,
and a scapegoat. First of all, a dictator needs loyal supporters. Loyal supporters are people (animals)

They never turn on Napoleon, because they are faithful to him. Those are the reasons why dictators
need loyal supporters. Secondly, a dictator needs followers who are ignorant. Those are peopling
who are not very smart, and ever question, or stand up to the dictator. They always follow him no
matter what he does to them, or to anyone else, and no matter if it's good or bad. Napoleon has many
followers who are ignorant. Some of them are Boxer, Clover, the sheep, and Muriel. No matter what
Napoleon says, commands, or makes them do, they always follow him without asking questions.
They are dumb enough to go along with everything that Napoleon is doing, and they always think
that he is always right, and everything they think or remember is always wrong. Some examples are
like the Battle of the Cowshed, and the seven commandments. When all the animals remembered
that Snowball fought bravely in the battle of the Cowshed, Napoleon told them that it was a part of
his plan, and he was always bad. Also, when Squealer kept changing the commandments by adding
details that all the animals thought were wrong, Napoleon always assured them that what they
remembered was wrong, and that those were how the commandments had always been. But, when
any of those things happened and all the animals thought they remembered correctly, they were
dumb enough to not ask questions, and speak up about what they remembered. That is why it is

the prince, or forbidden her from seeing Romeo, she may not have faked her death. She may have
not faked her death and would have actually not caused Romeo's death if she was not forced to
marry the prince. Another person that could be to blame is Juliet's nurse. Juliet's Nurse could have
guided Juliet instead of pressuring her and guiding her to do wrong. The nurse was joyful when
Juliet would disobey her parents and did not marry the prince. She encourages Juliet to fully become
committed to the marriage to Romeo. Although she also conflicts Juliet by Telling her to marry the

Aristotle Voluntary And Involuntary Act Summary
In Book III Chapter one of The Nicomachean Ethnics, Aristotle has his explanation of the meaning
of the voluntary act and involuntary act. He thinks the criterion for judging whether a man should be
held accountable for one of his actions was whether he had acted voluntarily. As the main idea of
book three–moral virtue, Aristotle starts his discussion from point out the issue of moral
responsibility, which can be considered as a basis of moral virtue, because if a man cannot be
responsible for the action he did, then theoretically the discussion is superfluous. For example, the
person was carried by the wind; then his behavior does not have any moral significance. Therefore,
Aristotle wants to make a distinction between the voluntary actions and the involuntary actions, that
is, for the moral responsibility to draw a piece of their territory, as a basis to talk about other ...

if it is in a different situation, then it against our wills. In this case, A should be praise; B should be
blamed because Aristotle thinks this is characteristic of wicked; C cannot get the praise, but because
of the pressure, it can get away from the blame. However, that does not mean the action is right; D.
cannot be forgiven because the fear we have of this kind of evil action should greater than anything

The Is An Individual Feel Expressed

  • 1. The Is An Individual Feel Expressed Overgeneralizing is thinking that there is a pattern happening after only one event and/or being overly broad in conclusions. Overgeneralizing can make an individual feel stressed. Feeling stressed can cause negative thoughts, which will cause negative performances. With overgeneralizing comes neurotic perfectionism. Since the athlete is not getting the results they want right away, they start to believe that they will not get the outcome they would like to see. For example, if an athlete does not perform as well as they thought they could in one practice, when they usually perform very well, they may come to a conclusion that nothing is going right and nothing will go right. They will begin to determine that they are not going to play in their upcoming game just because they practiced poorly once. This can begin to cause stress on the person, which will mentally weaken their performance. Although I am not involved in a sport here at Drake, I found overgeneralizing in myself when it came to academics. I did poorly on one of my first tests this semester, and I started to overgeneralize and begin to think that I am going to perform poorly on all the professors' exams because I did poorly on one. This caused my body a great deal of stress and caused me to do just about the same on the second test. Once I started to look at the whole picture, I began to stress less and perform better on their exams. If an athlete is feeling the same way about their sport as I did about my ... • 3. What Causes Romeo And Juliet To Blame Blame is when a person assigns blame to others. People resort to blame because it soften the blow for them and helps relieve them from feeling guilty. In the play Romeo and Juliet, blame plays the factor of placing the deaths of Romeo and Juliet into someone's hand so their families could have peace. Blame is placed when people know they are wrong but no not want the guilt. Romeo and Juliet are both to blame for their deaths. Both of them together made rash decisions and did not wait to tell the other person their plans to stay together. In the play Juliet went to Friar Laurence hoping to protect herself from her father. She took a drink from a substance he gave her without Romeo knowing and Romeo saw her after thinking she was dead so he drank poison to be with her. It caused the ripple effect of them wanted to do everything to be together but they did one thing after another and caused their own death. Following this, Romeo got himself in trouble for Juliet because he was not thinking through situations. He caused a boundary between him and Juliet which made Juliet distance and because he wanted to arrange her marriage she went to the enemy, who she loved, to get away from her father. Instead of Juliet listening to her father she wanted to get away from him more and went to Friar laurence to get the Substance. This caused her still sleep through the set wedding day but Romeo did not know this so he drank the poison and Juliet stabbed herself after seeing Romeo dead to be with him. • 5. The Friar Is To Blame In Shakespeare's Romeo And Juliet To blame is to assign responsibility for a fault or wrong that has been done. People may resort to blame as a form of defense. When someone is accused, it is suggested that something bad has happened and it is now their responsibility. Following, in Romeo and Juliet, the two teens commit suicide for their love. Many people were accused for their sudden deaths, but do not take the blame or responsibility for it. When something bad happens, the first thing people look for is who to blame. In Romeo and Juliet, the friar has a lot of the blame put on him, but is quickly forgiven because of his place with God. The friar is at fault because he was the one to bring Romeo and Juliet together in marriage. Romeo ran to the friar and asked if he could marry him and Juliet. The friar ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If the friar said no and refused to marry them, Romeo and Juliet would not have gotten together and Juliet would be forced to marry Paris. The Capulet parents are condemned as well. If their family was nice, respectful and loving to Juliet then there would be no reason for her to run off and disobey her family's rules. In the movie, Juliet's father treats Juliet like garbage and Juliet's nurse is wildly inappropriate to Juliet and her mother. Juliet's mother, lady Capulet, does not acknowledge Juliet as much as a mother should, and typically ignores Juliet's presence. Juliet's father is known to sexually harass her and known for being an alcoholic. In the movie, Juliet is having a nervous breakdown because Romeo had been banished. The Capulet parents are fed up with Juliet's behavior and force her to marry Paris, but when Juliet refuses, Capulet comes barging in and yells that she is worthless and to never talk to him again if she does not do what is asked of her. Juliet gets pushed around the room by her father until the nurse steps between them to break it up. The Capulet parents are just looking for a way ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When he successfully creates life, the moment he looks at the creature he shrieks in horror. The hideousness of the creature causes Victor to run away in fear leaving the "newborn" to survive by itself. When Victor returns back to an empty apartment, he rejoices and thinks his problem has vanished. Between Victor Frankenstein and the creature, Victor is the bigger monster because he feels no remorse for his actions while the creature regrets many of his wrong doings despite both seeking revenge. The creature, born with "feelings of happiness and affection", is a reflection of Victor as a young boy, full of joy and love. The creature and Victor share these uplifting traits in the beginning of their lives, but their spirits drastically change when one wrongs the other. The selfishness and irresponsibility rushing through Victors veins lead to the destruction of the creature's heart. Due to Victor's resignation of being the father figure of the creature; the creature seeks vengeance on Victor indirectly. Furthermore, "I am content to suffer alone while my sufferings shall endure.." This shows the overpowering guilt the creature has to battle and as he undergoes this misery, he concludes it's an acceptable punishment for the deaths, and agony he has caused. Victor's opinion was vastly different stating, " he devoted to destruction," which shows the displacement of blame from himself to the creature. • 9. The Consequences Of Blame In Romeo And Juliet Blame is the action of placing fault on someone else's shoulders in order to take responsibility off of ours. People resort to blame because they do not want to own up to the responsibility and the consequences following the fault. The quote,"We live in a culture of blame. People will blame anyone or anything for their misery sooner than to take responsibility to own it and make it better," is an excerpt of a book written by psychologists Dr. Henry Cloud and Dr. John Townsend. Blame comes into play during Romeo and Juliet, because the fault of the couple's death rests on the shoulders of King Capulet and Friar Laurence. Capulet and Friar Laurence are to blame for Romeo and Juliet's deaths, because the Friar marries them in the first place, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Friar's decision to marry Romeo and Juliet is significant, because that is what caused Romeo to aggravate Tybalt, eventually leading into two deaths of royalty. In Romeo and Juliet, although the priest easily could have decided not to marry the two, whom originate from warring sides of a city, marries them anyway. The Friar was fully aware of the inevitable consequences foreshadowed to come. This is illustrated when Romeo pleads to the Friar to marry the pair, to which the priest fiercely denies. Over the course of only a few minutes, the Friar sees an image of God and has the divine inspiration to marry them. This piece of the play creates a ripple effect, in which Romeo emerges from the church in an excited, happy manner, escalating the situation between Mercutio and Tybalt, which then eventually fell into a downward spiral towards Romeo and Juliet's graves. Moreover, the priest's settlement to marry Romeo and Juliet signifies importance, because his loyalty to his overall conclusion to marry them ultimately lead to their deaths. This is expressed in the scene where he provides a solution to Juliet to delay her marriage. As Juliet comes crying to the Friar after everyone in her household has betrayed her, he offers her a solution in which she will sleep for 48 hours. Juliet impulsively agrees and snatches the bottle, quickly thanking him and running home to sleep. By handing her the potion first, the priest sets their graves in stone by not telling Romeo the plan, causing confusion, and ultimately, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Examples Of Fear In Purple Hibiscus Imagine living in dramatic fear, someone who loves you, puts you through abuse, depression, and demolishing your self–esteem. How does a person grow from such a traumatic experience and become brave? Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie was born on September 15, 1977 in Enugu, Nigeria. During her senior year at Eastern, she started working on her first novel, Purple Hibiscus, which was released in October 2003. Adichie demonstrates bravery and growth in humanity. Kambili and her family's lives are followed throughout Purple Hibiscus. Kambili and her family live through fear of Papa, they are silent and are afraid to stand up for themselves. Fear suppresses our individuality and confidence– thus; it controls humanity and hinders us from bravery and growth. Fear can have complete control, accustoming one to feel complacent with their status quo. Kambili and her family are frightened their whole life– they're afraid of change as well their father's strict ideals that stops them from letting go and growing as an individual. "This cannot go on, nwunye m,' Aunty Ifeoma said. 'When a house is on fire, you run out before the roof collapses on your head." (213). Theoretically speaking, Aunty uses a metaphor that if a house is on fire, we must run out before the roof crumbles. She is relating this to the Achike household, proving that the pain that the family is enduring must end. Treatment of Eve in Paradise Lost Essay The treatment of eve in Paradise Lost We can see the poem deals with the entire story of man's fall from grace, including background for Satan's motives. In Paradise Lost, Eve was tricked by Satan, who assumed the form of a serpent, into eating from the Tree of Knowledge. Satan had whispered into her ear when she was asleep, and when he spoke to her later, he used his cunning to mislead her: He ended, and his words replete with guile Into her heart too easy entrance won. They must stop blaming each other, he says. They must live with their mistakes and make the most out of their fallen state. We can also see that god punished Eve and all women that they will give birth in pain, and must submit to their husbands. Now I will talk about how milton portrayed eve in his writing. Milton sees Eve as Narcissus. For many hundreds of years, the female has been seen as the weaker sex the gentle sex, the docile sex, even the less intelligent sex. And this is because, for many hundreds of years, the societies that humanity lived in were based mainly on survival. Necessity of women remained in the home in order to further the mere survival of the species, while men were in charge of providing for this family unit. Through this situation, men developed an egocentric view of life, seeing themselves as the centers of their own microcosms. Humans always look for someone else on whom to place the blame any man would be pleased if he were able to place all of the evil of humanity on to a poor

  • 20. Youth Violence Essay Youth Violence Youth violence is an escalating problem in American society today. There are many different factors that can be blamed for this problem. During the last decade of the twentieth century people began searching for answers to this dilemma which is haunting America. Many tragic school shootings have taken place within the last decade that have gained the attention of the public. As of now, no one can give the right answer to the problem or the reason that it happens because there is no right answer yet and nobody can be sure that they know the cause. A young male, who is brought up in a violent household, is more likely to be violent outside of the home. This idea brings us back to the saying monkey see, monkey do; what children see is what they will do. Among our many solutions to youth violence is the idea that too many guns are not the problem, but too few guns is the problem. Those backing the measure say that a teacher or administrator with a concealed gun could have stopped, or greatly minimized, the Littleton tragedy." Scapegoats have been humanity's way of pointing the finger and ignoring any wrongdoing that may have led to a failure. No one ever wants to take responsibility when a failure occurs, but there's always someone around to take the glory if success is achieved. Historically speaking, scapegoats were more of a reason people used to do bad things. Hitler, for instance, used the Jewish religion and people who practiced it in his country as his scapegoat for trying to achieve domination. No one wants to gain the responsibility and criticism that comes with failure, but appointing a scapegoat seems to be the easy way of dealing with it. In ancient societies, scapegoats were very popular and there were even specific animals and people who would be sacrificed if something went wrong. I think that was done more as part of religious practice, but the idea of a scapegoat taking the blame still stands. Analysis Of Under The Influence By Scott Russell Sanders After reading "Under the Influence " by Scott Russell Sanders I was able to write about certain criteria's in task three which was to identify the exact purpose/intent/objective of the essay. Also, I was able to identify what the essay should have accomplished in the reader after it has been read. Other things that I was able to identify, and state were the main idea (thesis, claim, premise) of the essay. The final thing that I was able to identify, and state were ideas related to the thesis idea, either stated, explicitly or suggested, that would help develop and support the thesis and the purpose of the essay. The exact purpose/ intent/ objective of the essay "Under the Influence" is to state that in life there will be many hardships, and some may have it rougher than others, but there are better ways to cope with certain things in a more positive way then just a negative way. Coping in a positive way benefits the person themselves and the loved ones around them. For example, when coping with certain things there's always alternatives than taking the negative of way and getting a drinking or drug problem. Scott Russell Sanders talks about his stress and coping mechanism he uses for his own benefit and his family's benefit. Many people have strong feelings when it comes to the institutions and processes surrounding mental illness and addiction. Ex– marine, Yale Law School Graduate, and hillbilly–at–heart J.D. We created them, and only we can fix them." Another quote that showcases this ideology is "I don 't know what the answer is, precisely, but I know it starts when we stop blaming Obama or Bush or faceless companies and ask ourselves what we can do to make things better." The fact that Vance consistently reiterates this idea in the conclusion shows that there is an extremely likely chance that Vance strongly believes that issues such as addiction and mental illness and the processes in which they develop are not the result of wrong–doings of the government, but the self–inflicted consequences of a, not only hillbilly, but human tradition of making bad choices. However, direct statements in the conclusion is not the only way that Vance insinuates this belief. Even though Vance directly states his stance in the conclusion, throughout the entirety of the memoir, he uses some of the tools of rhetoric, the art of persuasion, to try to persuade his audience to agree with him. When going through "The Muslim Reaction" by Ibn al–Athir the goal was to discover which people were responsible for what different events, which led up to the conquering of Jerusalem by the Franks. There is always more player behind the scenes and more stories than are told in the broad histories. The Franks original plan was to go to Africa after having conquering Sicily. However, King Roger "raised one leg and farted loudly" because of all the damage this would do for him. If the Franks were to go to Africa Roger would lose money, supplies, troops, resources, and would be breaking a treaty. There is always going to be a few individuals who address their mistakes on everyone, but themselves. It is a mainstream issue that whenever a person does something wrong they will try to shift the blame to other people, so they would not hold the responsibility anymore. Those include "The Love Laws," how the relationship between Chacko and Margaret got to the point of love, the blame and guilt between the characters, and of course "Communism." Based on four these themes many things have gone wrong for the lives of the characters, especially with, "Blame and Guiltiness." Love and rules (Love Laws), are constantly butting heads in the book. Ammu and Velutha's love is forbidden because of their social status differences. Rahel and Estha's love is also expressed. Mammachi's feelings toward, Chacko, also blur the lines between familial and romantic love. The breaking of the, "Love Laws" by Velutha, leaded to his death, a punished dead man. In the adulthood, Estha and Rahel were two of the ones that broke it too. "Only that once again they broke the Love Laws." "That lay down who should be loved. And how. And how much." Another theme in the book is based on Communism in Ayemenem. The author Arundhati Roy seems to suggest that even, Communist's is not faultless as it seems in the assumption that workers, "have nothing to lose but their chains." In Book III Chapter II of "Nicomachean Ethics", Aristotle focuses on different types of actions. He divides actions into three categories: voluntary, involuntary and nonvoluntary. Aristotle makes this distinction mainly because his evaluation of someone's actions depends primarily on whether their actions are voluntary, involuntary, or nonvoluntary. Aristotle describes voluntary actions as those actions driven by an individual's ambition, passions or desires. "It is only voluntary feelings and actions for which praise and blame are given" (Book.III Ch.I). Praise and blame presuppose that our actions are done voluntarily. The ... In this case, the man had no control over the outcome and was not fully aware of the circumstances surrounding his actions. Aristotle also explains that an act committed because of ignorance or force that is later regretted would be classified as involuntary. Aristotle makes a fine distinction between involuntary and nonvoluntary actions. According to Aristotle, ignorance of the particular facts of a given situation may be excused; however, ignorance of acceptable versus unacceptable behavior is evil and cannot be excused. Also if someone commits an act, then that action's classification is based on the person's response to the consequences of the action. For instance a woman swinging a bat, and unbeknownst to her, a little boy walks directly behind her and is then struck in the head. The woman, overcome with regret, acted involuntarily; however if the woman saw the consequences act without regret, her act would be classified as non voluntary. The situation is not voluntary, but how the woman responded was voluntary. " and the man who does not repent may, since he is different, be called a not voluntary agent; for, since he differs from the other, it is better that he should have a name of his own" (Book III Ch. I). Aristotle examined voluntary, involuntary, and no voluntary actions, primarily to set the stage for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Love can cause great emotions, yet it can also cause tragedies. When your love is strong enough it can also be dangerous, Romeo and Juliet caused the death of six people in a course of three days just so they can be together. In Romeo and Juliet there are many to blame for the cause of each death, but the most responsible for this situation are those who follow: Juliet, Nurse, and Friar Lawrence. • 42. Positive Reflection On Divorce Linda is a 36–year–old newly–divorced woman. Her early childhood experiences include her parents' divorce. Due to her parents' divorce and the following feelings of pressure to conform and agree to each parent, Linda has developed strong beliefs about her life, particularly her marriage. These are expressed through Linda's dislike of divorce and her desire to keep her children happy and innocent, Linda feels that she has failed in both cases and feels guilty and responsible for 'failing'. However, Linda did admit that her mother's general disapproval and opinion that Linda was to blame for the divorce may have influenced her thoughts. Due to the sudden divorced her (ex)husband has imposed, Linda feels very confused and alone, and she has furthered that by sending her children away and not clearing things with her husband. Linda also does not know how to move forward in her life, and is hesitant to do anything if it may affect her children. As a result, Linda is very confused and mildly frustrated with the situation. Linda recognises that her memories and previous feelings about parents' divorce may also be effecting her thoughts and feelings currently. In reviewing my practice, I can see that I used several skills very well, in particular the use of empathetic silences and positive reflection. An example of the positive reflection is when the client described how her mother was less supportive and blamed the client for the divorce, in response I said: "On the other hand, at least, your father, it sounds like he was very positive and supportive of you, like her would be there for you...?" (17:58). Linda response was "Yeah, he was pretty great, and we just talked about the future, and what I was going to do with my kids". Later in the practice (7:08) after the client expressed feelings of helplessness, I asked her "As you said, you've been through something similar, did you pick up an activities that helped?" in response she talked about drawing and about her friends being supportive. • 44. Blame And Shame : Causes And Effects Of Bad Behavior Many of us have heard the messages "shame on you" or "you should be ashamed of yourself." Say this or are told this with positive intent of correcting "bad" behavior. Shame motives people to correct bad behavior. "The act of blaming, especially when it involves shaming, frequently results in behavioral responses that inhibit the positive change we hope for" (Kelley, 83). People can feel shame towards themselves because of poor decisions they have made and knowing that others are looking down on them. This can lead someone to make necessary changes to improve their lives, but can also make people have resentment, anger and blame others (becomes a downward spiral). Shame can lead to protecting oneself through anger and control.  When these strategies do not work or are inappropriate one withdraws themselves and avoids. Guilt usually motivates people to make things right, to restore the relationship and change future behavior. "Blame and shame are just concepts that often create a distance between ourselves and others, and work against the eventual establishment of just relationships" (Kelley, 86). "Blaming creates, and reflects, a relationship frame that is often not useful in creating and maintaining just relationships" (Kelley, 86). Florence Nightingale wrote about such a society in her piece, Cassandra, and John Stuart Mill wrote further on the subject in his essay The Subjection of Women. Mill explores many aspects of the issue. He attempts to uncover the differences between the sexes to provide maybe another solution to the problem, but to no avail, "nothing final can be known" (Mill 1162); nothing is as strongly stated as when he places the blame on custom. Only this time, he states that there has been some improvement in the system as time went by; however, equality has not yet been reached. He believes that the small increase in power over time is enough to suggest that equality is the solution: "Through all...human history, the condition of women has been approaching nearer to equality with men. Analysis Of Lucky By Alice Sebold Summary Lucky by Alice Sebold's is a memoir in which she speaks about her traumatic experience that she went through during her freshman year at Syracuse University in New York. Alice was beaten and raped one night when she was walking alone back to her dorm. A black male grabbed her from behind with a knife and told her that he would kill her if she screamed. The black male took Alice into a tunnel where he beat her up and forced her to perform oral sex on him. Alice was still a virgin prior to the rape. After the black male raped Alice, he showed feelings of remorse, he helped Alice put her clothes back on. Alice lied and told him that it was okay and that she forgave him. Alice reports the incident to the police and the officer tells Alice that she should consider herself lucky because a girl had been killed in the same place where she was raped. The rape took a toll on Alice because she seemed to pretend like it was okay when it was not. She started seeing everything differently, every black male she came across she would be reminded of her rapist. Alice also experienced trouble in relationships with men because she did not consider herself to be worthy of any good guy because no guy would want her since she was a rape victim. In The Crucible by Arthur Miller, ¨Why I Wrote The Crucible¨an essay by Arthur Miller, and ¨Half–Hanged Mary¨ a poem by Margaret Atwood, it shows that a society under stress will always scapegoat a person or a group of people. Defending this statement, people from each of these sources have felt betrayed by being blamed and persecuted for actions they have not done. In The Crucible, Abigail and her friends choose to scapegoat people in their society to push the attention away from them. In Patricia Roberts–Miller's article "Democracy, Demagoguery, and Critical Rhetoric," analyzes what demagoguery is and how it affects the audience. Speakers or authoritative figures that engage with demagoguery use strategies such as scapegoating and polarization in order to establish a separation between in–groups and out–groups; in–groups tend to form hateful discrimination on out–groups and define them with negative features. An example of demagoguery that Roberts–Miller uses is in Adolf Hitler's speech about how he wanted German people to change their views and beliefs on the Jewish. Her article however, also consists of several fallacies and may seem somewhat unethical. Throughout Wayne LaPierre's speech on the Newtown Tragedy in 2012, there is usage of what Roberts–Miller claims to be demagoguery. Wayne LaPierre is the Vice President of the National Rifle Association (NRA). After the shooting that occurred at Sandy Hook elementary, LaPierre expresses his sympathy for the families of the loss and he then gathers the attention of parents who may be uneasy about their children's safety at school. In an attempt to recreate the civilization they left behind, they nominate Ralph as their leader, with the smart and rational Piggy by his side. But Jack wants to lead, too, and one–by–one, he lures the boys from reason and humanity to savagery and a survival and inhuman state; they become the hunters. In Lord of the Flies, William Golding gives us a glimpse of the savagery that controls even the most civilized human beings. In To Kill a Mockingbird, author Harper Lee uses interesting characters to explore civil rights and racism in the segregated Southern United States of the 1930s. Narrated by Scout Finch, you learn about her father Atticus Finch, an attorney who hopelessly fights to prove the innocence of a black man wrongly accused of rape; and about Boo Radley, a mysterious neighbour who saves Scout and her brother Jem from being killed. Lord of the Flies and To Kill a Mockingbird are still relevant today, the events and themes are still reflected in today's society such as scapegoating; blaming a person for the wrongdoings, mistakes, or faults of others, especially for reasons of practicality. Piggy, Simon and the beast are examples of scapegoats in Lord of the Flies and Tom Robinson and Boo Radley are scapegoats in To Kill a Mockingbird. • 56. The Aids Epidemic Of Haiti Essay When a fatal disease becomes known to a society but lacks explanation our instinct as humans is to jump to conclusions, whether they are logical or not. We bargain with our faith, we search for any evidence to support our conjectures, we deny the truth of the disease, and we place blame on each other. All of these desperate acts of justification are driven by fear–fear of the unknown. The combination of fear and ignorance that pushes people to make conclusions is readily notable in the AIDS epidemic of Haiti. Haitians reacted to AIDS in a similar manner as other cultures, but there are also differences that are specific to their community. Like many cultures, Haitians reasoned the occurrence of AIDS with explanations beyond the scope of medicine, with diseases that were known to them, or were instead in complete denial. The uniqueness of the occurrence of AIDS in Haiti was that there was no direct cause that could be addressed. Thus, while under significant scrutiny as the origin of AIDS, Haitians reacted to the epidemic by blaming the existence of AIDS on poor socioeconomic status, on sorcery, and on other people or countries. As part of their reaction to AIDS, Haitians had a propensity to attribute the existence of AIDS to poor populations. AIDS is indeed more prevalent among the lower socioeconomic class in Haiti, but the perception as to why this pattern occurred went beyond the simple interpretation that AIDS was a disease of the poor. In some cases, who to blame is a simple answer. In other cases, it is extremely difficult to hold someone accountable, when in fact there are multiple people who are at fault. In the case of Romeo and Juliet, countless people add to the tragedy that grew throughout the story. Although, the main person who is at fault for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet, is Friar Lawrence. Throughout the play, you see Friar Lawrence become more and more irresponsible in many ways. The Friar made impulsive decisions without thinking and it caused a major disaster throughout the town. Examples Of Catholism In Chronicle Of A Death Foretold How is Catholicism critiqued in Chronicle of a Death Foretold through the character of Father Amador In Chronicle of a Death Foretold, Márquez's characterisation of Father Carmen Amador, the town's priest, as a ritualistic, incompetent and hypocritical man reveals and critiques the hollowness of Colombian Catholicism. Though a minor character, Amador, a representation of the Church in a predominantly Catholic society, is integral to an acute understanding of the novel. "Amador", a Spanish name that translates to "lover of God", ostensibly portrays Father Amador as a paragon of piety. In his role as a mediatory agent between man and God, the priest is responsible for providing religious guidance and leadership in the town. Reflecting a consensus of his authority and moral responsibility to prevent the murder, several townspeople send "peremptory" warnings of the twin's threats to Father Amador. Some of them are Boxer, Clover, the sheep, and Muriel. No matter what Napoleon says, commands, or makes them do, they always follow him without asking questions. They are dumb enough to go along with everything that Napoleon is doing, and they always think that he is always right, and everything they think or remember is always wrong. When all the animals remembered that Snowball fought bravely in the battle of the Cowshed, Napoleon told them that it was a part of his plan, and he was always bad. Also, when Squealer kept changing the commandments by adding details that all the animals thought were wrong, Napoleon always assured them that what they remembered was wrong, and that those were how the commandments had always been. As the main idea of book three–moral virtue, Aristotle starts his discussion from point out the issue of moral responsibility, which can be considered as a basis of moral virtue, because if a man cannot be responsible for the action he did, then theoretically the discussion is superfluous.
