11. Reminder: Cloud, Why? Price Minimal entry cost Pay per use Focus on your own business Let someone else maintain servers, networks, storage, licensing, … Focus on the Application (your business) Flexibility Now! Change with a click of a button
23. Technology under the hood You need to know, it will influence , and you don’t want to learn about it when things do not work .. What virtualization technology is used? Are there additional abstraction layers? Am I able to load my own VM’s? Run software installations? How fast is the local network? What is the storage architecture? Usually storage will be the slowest link
24. Security Seems scary as we are not in control Not necessarily bad .. SalesForce.com has over 50 full time employees in their security group, how many does your company has? Follow your industry regulations Government, Health & Finance You are part of it as a Cloud citizen 123qwe is a bad password
25. Content Ready made VMs Windows, Linux Licenses should be part of it Ready made environments e.g., Microsoft Information Worker Supporting tools Active Directory integration User management
26. Accessibility Is the environment available on the internet? directly or only through a unique interface application Is tunneling into the Cloud possible? Is secure access enabled? Can I start just from my browser or do I need some fat client? What access protocols are available? RDP, VNC, ICA, Console, SSH, ..Also over non standard ports?
27. Flexibility What is my ability to change the setup – Addemove servers, memory, storage, public IPs How easy it is to keep old versions of setups? Can I have multiple environments per user? Am I able to archive an environment and access it again six month later?
28. Collaboration Work over multiple campuses, with multiple organizations How easy it is to create another Clone? How can others get this clone? Can several people access the same environment in parallel? Can we assign DNS record to enable joint work Am I able to trace who was using my setup?
29. Simplicity Keep it simple .. Is it a turn key solution? e.g., Software Licenses How easy it is to decipher the monthly bill .. Is there a simple billing system? Do I click a machine and open an RDP session into it or do I need to create pair of public-private key that will than be used by rsh ..
30. Support your own business need Did we say SharePoint? Ready made content (SQL Server, SP 2010, Information Worker, …) Business workflows that support my needs – Upgrade from 2007 to 2010 Training Dev and Test … Cost matches the value for you
