So where did we start? Students no access to mobile devices. Decided to start with parents. Created a poster to hang in lobby where they pick up students. Takes them to school calendar.\n
Explanation. QR App suggestions. Brief directions.\n
Calendar now accessible to parents on the go. Next step? Involving students.\n
Requested the Gifted teacher for access to her kids. Wanted to choose books in the library. Gave them a Guide for book talks. Recorded using GarageBand. Had book reports. Needed somewhere to host them? \n
We have our a Wordpress server in the district, so we created a school blog site and hosted the booktalks there. So now we had the booktalks, we had them posted, time to share! How do you get a QR code? Copy & Paste\n
\n
The longer the URL the more complex the code is - if you use a URL shortening site, you get a cleaner code.\n
If you have a Google account - keeps record, stats for day/week/month/all time. click Details:\n
Keeps track of the long URL, short URL, Code, scroll down...\n
Browsers & Platforms - good to see if where you’re promoting is good. This one was a class project we posted and sent a slip of paper announcement with the short url and the code on it.\n
So getting back to the book talks - now that we had the recordings posted we coded them and put them on the books...\n
\n
\n
As I mentioned in the beginning, we do not have access to mobile devices in school, so our solution was to set up a QR Coding station with a laptop. So now if the kids want to preview a book they can scan and read/see/hear about the book first.\n
\n
\n
We’ve started to see some of this with an iPad pilot we’re currently involved in\n
\n
Where are we headed - some things I’d like to see us do. I would love to move this into the classroom instead of me taking care of it all. Ideas for them I think are simple.\n
