Case Study Of SF Express
Introduction
SF Express established in 1993, at Shunde port SF Express has been committed to improving
service quality and satisfying market demands. It has set up nationwide service network and is now
actively expanding its overseas business. S.F. Express has launched services in mainland China,
Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, the U.S., Singapore, South Korea, Malaysia, Japan, Thailand, Vietnam
and lately Australia. Due to competition is increasing; I am going to propose a way for SF Express
to improve its competitiveness. According to my observation and also the information from the
internet the warehouse managing is very important for this type of company like SF Express. I am
going to know more about SF Express's warehouse management and find ... Show more content on

Because the new system is not enough for SF Express compete with other companies like Fedex and
DHL, etc. The facility updating is also important for SF Express. If the system is updated, it means
the software is suitable for the new trend. But the hardware of SF Express still needs to be
improved. No matter how updated version software is, it still needs hardware support it. So updating
the hardware is also required for using the new warehouse management system. The new warehouse
management system is not going to replace all the human works. Therefore, training for the staffs to
manage the warehouse is very important for SF Express. If the staffs can be more familiar the new
system, the most efficiency will be gained. The skills of the staffs need to improve at the beginning.
Also, SF Express needs to set up a new department for the warehouse management. Between the
department conferences need to be held for improving the performance. One of the important
principles for this kind of company is protecting the stocks that the customer has been given to you.
SF Express needs to have some ways to protect the stocks. The warehouse needs more skillful
workers to operate it. The warehouse will become more efficient when different aspects have been
improved. The new system will help to build up the warehouse network for SF Express which is the
global trend. SF Express needs to be patient for updating the warehouse management system since
at the beginning there will be many difficulties need to overcome. But for long term updating the
warehouse management system is still beneficial for SF

Data Warehousing : A Data Warehouse
I am sure that use of this technology will grow radically in next few years.
Data warehouse:
Data warehousing is an efficient system which store the past as well as current data used for creating
reports. Data warehousing system is used for decision making by analyzing the reports. A data
warehouse is a relational database, which is designed for analysis and query. It helps an organization
to consolidate and analyze data from different sources and make decision. A data warehouse
environment consists of OLAP (On–Line Analytical Processing) engine, ETL (Extraction,
Transformation and Loading) process, client analysis tools and other applications that manage
gathering and delivering the data.
A data warehouse allows you to perform many types ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What are the products that are frequently bought by best customers? ". In this case 'sales' is the
subject, thus a data warehouse can be defined by any subject like purchase, inventory, finance,
marketing etc..,
Integrated:
Data is gathered from disparate sources and stored r uploaded into data warehouse, so the data must
be in consistent format. Problems such as inconsistency among units of measure and naming
conflicts must be resolved. When there are no conflicts and inconsistency then it is said to be
integrated.
Nonvolatile:
Once the data is loaded into the warehouse, it should not be changed because this data allows us to
analyze what has happened. In general data warehouse provides read only access and once the data
loaded into these systems, changes are very rare.
Time Variant:
Analytics need huge amount of data to make a decision. In OLTP systems current data is maintained
and historic data will be moved to an archive where as a warehouse stores all the historic as well as
current data. When compared to operational systems data in a warehouse has longer time horizon.
Derived and aggregated data are common in data warehouse. A data warehouse is a demoralized or
partially demoralized database management system. Data warehouse is suitable for ad hoc queries
and it can perform a variety of possible query operations. Using bulk data modification techniques,
on a regular basis a data warehouse is updated. It depends on the requirement

The Challenges of Big Data and Extreme Workload
The Challenges of Big Data and Extreme Workload:
Big Data has gained massive importance in IT and Business today. A report recently published state
that use of big data by a retailer could increase its operating margin by more than 60 percent and it
also states that US health care sector could make more than $300 billion profit with the use of big
data. There are many other sectors that could profit largely by proper analysis and usage of big data.
Although big data promises better margin's, more revenue and improvised operations it also brings
new challenges to the It infrastructure which is "extreme data management" .At the same time these
companies should also need to look at workload automation and make sure it is robust enough to
make to handle the needs that the big data is associated to as well as the needs of the business
intelligence it there to serve.
File transfers require to be scheduled for data to be moved to a central database or data–warehouse.
This by far involves an Extract, Transform and Load (ETL) workflow as data is usually gathered
from different types of database. Once the data is brought to a central database, to determine
patterns in the data queries are scheduled from a variety of users using various applications. The
frequency of the queries varies from business to business – it can be continuous, once a day or
hourly. And of course, as data gets added to the database and moved to new databases, there is the
routine task of database

Improving the Inventory Process Essay
Improving the Inventory Process Abstract
MMAS manufactures and distributes high–accuracy metering products to the North American
utility, sub–metering and industrial markets. The company recently revamped its procurement
processes, switching from offshore to domestic parts suppliers for some components to provide
more flexibility in its supply chain. Workers at its 100,000 sq ft manufacturing and distribution
facility were bogged down with a paper based, manual inventory management process. All
inventory moves were written down and key entered into MAPICS on stationary desktop PCs, a
time–consuming process that made it difficult to manage the company's inventory of parts and
finished products. Annual physical inventories took ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is an ERP (Enterprise resource planning) which is a business support system that maintains in a
single database the data needed for a variety of business functions such as Manufacturing, Supply
Chain Management, Financials, Projects, Human Resources and Customer Relationship
Management. An annual inventory takes upward of 2 days to complete.
The company found a technology solution to help its distribution operations keep pace with the
company's growth – QuikTrac. With QuikTrac MMAS will be able to cut the time it takes to
complete its physical inventory process in half and significantly improve inventory accuracy and
warehouse efficiency using a wireless data collection solution that communicates in real time with
its MAPICS enterprise resource planning system. Using label printers, MMAS has deployed bar
coded location labels throughout its warehouse. Workers scan the location labels with the mobile
computers, and key enter quantities during inventory moves. Warehouse employees will also use the
devices for cycle counting, and annual physical inventories.
In order for QuikTrac to be functional several system updates had to occur, software had to be
updated and new servers had to be installed in order to hold the abundance of information that
would now be input via wireless devices. QuikTrac system requires at least 2.0 GHz with 20 GB

The role of warehousing in logistics system
A warehouse is the building for storing goods while warehousing refers to the place or building
where goods are stored. Warehousing plays the role of consolidation in the logistics system.
Consolidation is the process of reducing the costs of transportation by consolidating the movement
(Ross, 2004). Most of the companies supply their client with the same goods through a warehouse.
From the warehouse; commodities are sent in a bulk shipment to the consumer. Therefore, rather
than transporting the products in small shipment, it is economical having a consolidation ... Show

Automated warehouses are another type of warehouse. The advances in the robotics and computer
technology have enabled most of the warehouses to have automated capabilities. The level of
automation of these kinds of warehouses ranges from a little conveyor belt to fully automated
facility in which only a few individual are required to handle the store activity of thousands of
kilograms of a commodity (Altekar, 2005). Most of the warehouses use the machine in dealing with
all the physical distribution activities in a company.
Climate controlled warehouses were those that change with the climate. The warehouses store
various types of goods including those that require special handling. The commodities that need
special handling include freezers, which tore the frozen products (Altekar, 2005). These types of
delicate products need humidity controlled environments. Furthermore, a dirt free facility may be
used in handling the products that are highly computer sensitive.
The pros of public warehouse over private warehouse and vice versa
Public warehouses are beneficial as compared to the private warehouses in that there is no capital
one should invest in the warehouse. Furthermore, this type of warehouse offers the ability to expand
the market. It offers practical and economical ways of reaching the new markets (Altekar, 2005).
Furthermore, it is easy to adjust to the seasonality. It enables the user to rent a big space during the

Implementing Integrated Financial Management Systems Essay
1.0 Introduction
1.1 Background of the study
Developing countries in Africa began to focus on the improvement of public finance, in particular
on budget and expenditure management reforms in the early 1990s.Governments started to critically
review the existing systems and processes mainly as a response to concerns from the donor
community. Due to inadequate and outdated systems, governments decided to introduce of
integrated financial management systems (FMS) along the experience of developed countries in the
'70s and '80s (Heidenof et al., 2002).
In Tanzania ambitions to reform program to improve public sector financial management, which
initially focused on introducing effective and efficient budget formulation and expenditure
management systems started in 1994 .Two, projects financed by Swedish International Development
Agency(SIDA) ,the Government Accounting Development Project (GADP) and the Interim Budget
Development Project (IBDP) were formed to pursue a solution for efficient and effective budget
formulation and expenditure (IMF,2005)
In 1998/99, the government introduced an Integrated Financial Management
System (IFMS) in ten selected Ministries, Department and Agencies (MDAs). A central server was
placed at the treasury (in the Office of the Accountant General (AG)). Users were connected by a
dedicated network. Each MDA had its own database held in the omnibus database in the central
server. Updates of MDAs' transactions automatically in the database were in

The Placement Of Product Warehouses
Placement of Product Warehouses
The placement of product warehouses has become a key instrumental feature in today's world of
logistics. The placement of product warehouses does not only play a significant role in safeguarding
the product before it reaches its final destination, but with the right location strategy the product will
arrive at its destination in on a timely manner; satisfying both the retailer and consumer. Together
with a well–organized strategy, retailers, suppliers, and manufactures can benefit greatly by the
placement of product warehouses in terms of generating long–term capital. As previously stated the
key to placement of product warehouses is having a strategy that fits the organization's needs. A
strategy will be composed of the following factors location, efficiency, inventory, and the use of
advanced technologies. Determining the location involves taking in consideration of the product,
travel time, and cost of labor to restock the warehouse. A good example of this is Amazon and
Walmart both of these retailers have revolutionized the placement of product warehouses suitable
their products and consumers; in order to maximize their profit while maintaining their market
share. In 2005, Walmart made drastic changes in order to manage their 300,000 stock keeping units
(SKUs), by opening 40 high–velocity cross–dock distribution centers solely for the purpose of
accommodate their perishable deliveries to its store locations (Fiveash, 2016). In the

The Deployment Of Automation For An Automated Warehouse
Executive Summary The change from a manual warehouse to an automated warehouse is significant
and the impact of that change should never be under estimated. Even limited application of
automated technologies will have a dramatic effect on the processes used in the warehouse, the
management systems required to make it effective and on the people who have to adapt to accept its
use. The deployment of automation in warehouses, whether it is a fully integrated solution or an
enhancement to a manual technology, can bring competitive advantages to companies with benefits
in staffing, property or service. In staffing, we could have reduced costs, providing improved
ergonomics and an alternative to unproductive labor. Property includes saving on space, reduced
facility size and reduced costs. Service benefits include improved order accuracy, product security
and condition, and lead–times. Also, if a service provider like Amazon wants to launch its 'Prime'
services in a developing nation which hardly has any money for automation services, they would
find it very difficult to fulfil the customer requirements with their 2–day delivery system. This is
because of the drawback of having a manual warehousing. Speaking of manual warehousing, there
are numerous issues related to labor that a company might encounter in the long–run. Probably the
biggest driver is the ever increasing cost of labor. Wages are spiraling downwards due to the
financial crisis, but this may only be temporary.

The Data Warehouse Market
The data warehouse DBMS market is going through a transformation due to the rise of "big data"
and logical data Warehouses. Surprisingly, many establishments entered the data warehouse market
in 2012 for the first time, swelling demand for professional services and causing vital changes in
vendors' positions.
The different influential vendors in the Data warehouse market are detailed below
1) Teradata
Teradata offers both traditional and emerging logical data warehouse solutions. Teradata product
delivery is in such a way that it always leads and faces least competition in overall execution. It has
constantly pushed the market towards emerging best practices and product innovation. Teradata has
different form factors ranging from tiny proof of concept (POC) solutions to an all–flash–memory,
enterprise–capable solution. It is a leader in logical data warehouse with its unified data architecture
which combines Teradata, Aster and Hadoop technology.
It lags in upgrading to newer versions and there is a near absence of skilled Teradata professionals in
the market.
2) Oracle
Oracle customers have the option to choose to build a warehouse using oracles DBMS software.
Oracle offers the below mentioned data warehouse solutions. DBMS software, certified
configurations, Oracle Big Data Appliance, Oracle Exadata X3 (X3–2 and X3–8), Oracle SPARC
Super Cluster T4 systems with Oracle Exadata Storage Servers. The oracle products have an appeal
to the current data warehouse market.

Cost And Return On Investment
1.1 Cost and Return on Investment: Implementing a data warehouse to consolidate both Virtual
World Insurance Company, and Maxon Insurance Company, is probably the best way to combine
their data. As this is a new merger, comparing both company's previous performance data with the
performance after the merger will outweigh the cost of the data warehouse. Since they both use
different means to store their data as well as two different CRMs, the flexibility of a data warehouse
will be able to combine all these different types of data into one consolidated system. Both
companies could have their data integrated without using a data warehouse but there would be
multiple duplicate accounts added to preexisting ones. Having a data warehouse allows for SQL
queries that can provide easy access to important statistics such as data analytics, customer
satisfaction ratings, and financial records. Specific operations areas that will benefit from having a
data warehouse are the sales, marketing, finance, and management departments of the auto
insurance company. The sales department will be able to analyze how many new customers they are
acquiring each quarter based on customer satisfaction ratings, and market growth. Marketing and
management will be able to pin point peak times in auto sales to release more ads enticing new
customers to purchase their auto insurance from this new merger. Management will know when or if
new staff needs to be hired to compensate for times of increased sales

SAP's ERP software didn't support that way of doing business. Summit used some of the standard
functionality in the SAP software to change how it allocated materials into temporary storage
locations by creating a parent – child warehouse relationship. If, for instance, Summit's Houston
office has several temporary onsite warehouses, the warehouses are managed as subparts of its main
warehouse. That prevents someone from selling the consigned inventory in the warehouse.
Summit's old legacy systems used separate systems for orders and financials, so the data could not
be easily combined for business intelligence reporting and analysis. In 2010, Summit implemented
SAP's NetWeaver BW data warehouse and business intelligence solution to make better use of the
data in its ERP system. These tools have helped the company evaluate the profitability of its sales
channels, using what–if scenarios. For instance, Summit is now able to analyse profitability by sales
person, manufacturer, customer or branch. business intelligence findings have encouraged Summit
to focus more attention to areas such as sales order quotations and to supplier performance and
delivery times. Management has much greater visibility into how the organisation is operating and is
able to make better decisions.
Summit's SAP software also produced a significant return on investment (ROI) from automating
sales tax processing

Using Data Warehouse Systems And Human Resource Management
Due to significant growth organically and through acquisitions in recent years, Global Payments
facing many challenges connecting various data warehouse systems and applications throughout the
organization. Data sharing become a major issue. It is sometimes impossible to access certain
systems within the organization due to different technology and security. Dependency upon each
entity or individual to send their data or report can lead to greater risk of getting incorrect data
interpretation or errors. As we continue to support more internal and external customers in more
locations, the administration of our workforce has become more difficult. Many of our internal
requirements such as reporting, payroll activities, and human resource management have been done
via legacy data warehouse systems. As more demand on data collections and analytics, these
traditional data warehouse systems have become inadequate to effectively manage these
administrative activities. This inadequacy is manifested in higher costs and increased merchant
attritions. In order to more effectively manage our administration, reduce costs, and improve
customer retention, Global Payments must move to a web–based application as outlined in this
business case. By doing so, enabling the company to manage its administration from one central and

Integrity : Integrity And Integrity
Integrity constrains provide a way of ensuring that data are entered or updated in a database by
authorized users do not result in a loss of data quality. Integrity constrains could either be a
specification of uniqueness for values of column (for example, only allowing the input of "M" for
male or "F" for female in the gender field) or validation for values of a column (for example,
allowing only a specified range of values for a field that records a patient's temperature. Integrity
Constrains Referential integrity is another strategy that is used to ensure data quality in relational
databases. Referential integrity ensures that there is consistency between tables that are linked in the
relational database. HIM professionals are frequently involved in helping to develop integrity
constraints in a database. Database Management Systems Database management systems (DBMSs)
fail into two categories: a personal DBMS, which runs on a client; and a server–based DBMS,
which runs on a server. Personal DBMS A personal DBMS is used for small projects such as storing
contact information (for example, in a personal address book). It should not be used for systems that
require large amounts of storage and 24/7 access. Database Management Systems Most healthcare
systems would not use a personal DBMS. Personal DBMSs are tempting to use because (1) they are
inexpensive and (2) most people already have access to one with an office software package such as
Microsoft Office. Microsoft Access

Intel Corporation is the world 's largest corporation for semiconductor manufacturer. To meet the
customer 's' needs and wants, warehouse management is one of the important part because a
warehouse has the responsibility for customers to meet their requirements on their orders. However,
Intel warehouse J76, the global warehouse at Chandler, Arizona, was faced with some issues related
to customers. Jack Tyler, the Director of Warehousing and Logistics at Intel Chandler, had a
conversation with a critical customer regarding complaint with recent quality of shipment that may
result as the customer switches to competitor if the problem is not solved afterwards. Thus, Mr.
Tyler and other members in the team of warehouse took this ... Show more content on

Mt. Tyler thought that hiring additional employees would be an easy solution for managing demand
increasing. However, J76 wanted to keep the operating costs down so he was questionable about if
add more human resources would be a suitable solution (WAREHOUSING STRATEGY AT INTEL
CORPORATION).
IOE J76 implemented new warehousing system called IOE, Inbound and Outbound Excellence, to
improve the warehouse management in 2012. IOE is an out–of–box ERP system and manages how
to pack and labels where the finished goods to be shipped automatically. Thus, Ms. Martin strongly
supported IOE because of its benefits. Nevertheless, customer complaints are increased even after
IOE implemented. In addition, some problems were founded; the printer drivers and hardware were
not compatible with IOE, incorrect time zones configured into the new system, and the false master
data was often entered into the system incorrectly which caused delays of shipping and was
considered the biggest problem (WAREHOUSING STRATEGY AT INTEL CORPORATION).

Warehousing And Storage Of Warehousing
2.1 Warehousing and storage
Warehousing is a basic part of each logistics framework. Efficient and effective warehousing
administration plays an important role in giving great customer service for less cost. The health
section, through its diverse provincial health centres cannot sidestep warehousing in giving health
care. Warehousing is an essential connection between producers and clients. Throughout the years
warehousing has grown from a minor feature of a company 's logistics framework to one of its most
vital function. As per James R. Stock & Douglas M. Lambert, we can characterize warehousing as a
section of an organisation 's logistics framework which stores items at and between source point

Clients is a term suitable to internal (i.e. Nursing crew, administrative crew and doctors) or external
(i.e. in and outpatients) users of stocks or supplies. 2.3 Warehouse definition
A warehouse is a commercial center is built for stocking goods. They come furnished with stacking
docks to load and empty trucks; or in some cases are stacked specifically from railroads, airport
terminals, or seaports. They have cranes and forklifts for moving merchandise, which are normally
set on ISO standard pallets stacked into pallets racks Few warehouses are fully automated, without
any staff inside. The pallets and items are moved with an automated conveyors and computerized
stockpiling and recovery machines facilitated by programmable rationale controllers and PCs
running logistics automated programming. These systems are regularly installed in refrigerated
distribution centers where temperatures are kept exceptionally cool to keep the item from ruining.
These high–bay stockpiling areas are usually more than 10 meters high, with some

Transportation And Warehouse Management Essay
Transportation and Warehouse Management
SUMMARY
The report is on how transportation and warehouse management plays a vital role in the supply
chain, different modes of transports that involve in the freight movement from one location to
another. The amount of time to deliver a product to customers will show the effect on company's
future, so the company has to follow some steps to have a better mode of transportation for less cost
and delivery time. The primary objective of this project is to show how the transportation and
warehouse management systems are used to overcome the problems that are faced in transportation
and storage quickly and some of the key elements in WMS and TMS.
Transportation management:
Globalization has increased the importance and role of transportation in supply chain management.
Transportation plays a vital role in increasing the Gross Domestic product. It involves the movement
of the manufactured product from one location to the another location or the customer safely.
Transportation plays a vital role in the supply chain because the probability of using the produced
product on the same site is almost negligible. Now, transportation is one of the primary factors
which can affect the economy of the company when it is not efficient, safe and reliable. Delivering
the products on time directly to the customers has been increasing significantly in these recent years
which can be accomplished only with transportation management, resulting

Improving Logistics & Transportation Performance with Big Data Executive Summary:
Transportation and logistics industry gets tons of data each day. Data for these companies will come
in different forms and we need all of the data to move ahead from others in this industry. As the
technology got advanced we are able to receive huge data from different sources like customer
feedback, data from sensors which were installed in vehicles for their movements, positions,
weather forecast and GPS to find their locations, recording phone calls from drivers to customers for
quality improvement purposes, customer demands, social media and order processing applications.
In order to analyze, process and maintain this huge amounts of data from different sources is huge
concern for logistics and transportation industry and have to spend more money on it in order to
improve business and its operations. As the data increases from day to day it will be hard to analyze
it and also to interpret for making business decisions. As the data is generated more rapidly and data
volumes are increasing heavily results in making patterns and decisions for top management will be
difficult. For this Big data comes into picture to solve the problem. Big data provides suitable
architecture for current trends and also to meet the requirements in changing business and its
functions. Challenges faced by the industry: Most of the logistics companies use some sort of BI

This project proposes a complete asset management system for the warehouses and stores to
efficiently record, manage and track the products kept in the store. This unified solution can help the
company record appropriate need, security, and statistical data, which can be used to create more
efficient asset management protocols. This system employs multiple technologies: An RFID reader,
RS–232 communication, UART, LCD Interface, a microcontroller, EPROM, and GSM
communication; all of these technologies are described in details. When the RFID tag is in the range
of reader, asset data is read by the RFID reader and transmitted to the microcontroller via RS–232

3.1 Problem Statement
The warehouses and stores with enormous amount of packages and product management has a need
of an autonomous system that tracks and manages the inventory of the asset present in the store
along with providing security of theft and stealing. Imagine someone whose primary job function is
to ensure the products from a store successfully make their ways out to the respective consumers.
Part of this involves keeping accurate records that verify the products when they are brought to the
store or when they are taken out. The difficulty for an individual to follow every package and record
the relevant data. That person cannot possibly track each individual product manually, as they may
not be able to remember and memorize huge amount of assets kept in the store. It's a tedious job to
make inventory on paper for huge amount of assets present in the store also the probability of error
increases a lot. To better illustrate the magnitude of this

Warehouse activities have essential elements that run them and how management highlights them as
indicators is by comparing the process value with normal, standard values. (Liviu lliea, 2009) The
indicators are the key to performance improvement, and there are various ways this is done
internationally. * Colson and Dorigo, (Liviu lliea, 2009) offer an example of a software tool that is
built to measure warehouse activities. The criteria measured includes: storage surface and volume,
dangerous items, temperature control, storage area separation, distance to transportation locations,
certifications, hours of operation, customs assistance, technology integration, equipment handling,
and dock activities. * Krauth, (Liviu lliea, 2009) uses around 130 indicators to assess warehouse
performance. Some of these indicators include storage surface and volume, storage racks, dock
activities, hours of operation, customs assistance, pallets per hour, and pallets per square meter. *
John Hill, (Liviu lliea, 2009) uses just three indicators to assess warehouse performance. The three
criteria are fulfilment of orders, inventory management, and warehouse performance.
What are the challenges in calculating warehouse performance indicators? Warehouses use
performance indicators to measure the performance of their operations. Traditionally, warehouses
have used a single factor performance based method to measure operations. The single factor
methods are

Hiram Miller—a Essay
Yizhou Xu Section 002 Case: Hiram Miller–A
I, the general manager of Hiram Miller Chicago branch, am considering we should have something
done with our current warehouse on Jefferson Street. The basic problem is that the 60–year–old
warehouse is not capable for our daily business from many aspects any more as we move into the
21st century. Due to many limitations, the shortcomings to run that warehouse are overwhelming the
advantages it remains. Small size, inefficient layout, obsolete facilities, low–tech equipments and
bad working environment are dragging our company down within such an intense competition ...

The quality of the warehouse and the equipments can be improved if we whitewash the warehouse
and replace some old machines with the news. The working environment will be polished up and
make the work more efficient, meanwhile, will not change the basic operating structure. For
example, good condition elevators can eliminate the battle between the shipping and receiving
departments. The second choice is finding a third–party warehouse which meets our basic
requirements. We can utilize third party to manage the warehouse and reach our goal as well.
Finally, we can build a new warehouse near the O'Hare Airport where has ample of land so that we
can construct a warehouse fully meets our requirements. For our long–term benefits, I strongly
suggest to build a new warehouse near the airport. Renovation is a short–term solution and just
keeps our business work normally and I cannot believe how long that old–fashion building would
maintain. The core problems are the weak floor and the low ceilings which cannot be restructured.
Those will constrain heavy equipment to move in. The work needs to be done by hand which means
slow and more workers. On another hand, if we rent a warehouse rather than own by ourselves, we
will lose the control of the warehouse even though it solves our problems. Thus, the effective
communication and the specialized service may be the problems. Despite of sacrificing the
advantages of inner city location like vicinity of our

Constant technological development of the nowadays world dictates constant emergence of new
trends. One of such trends which the nowadays business world has been familiar with for several
decades is the technology called Warehouse Management System (WMS). Warehouse management
system has a purpose to automate and refine the management of the inventory in a warehouse,
warehouse space, the people who work in the warehouse and the time available to accomplish
warehouse tasks (Young 2009). In case of correct and thoughtful implementation this system allows

Therefore, the book industry, and in particular book wholesale industry is still flourishing, since they
provide possibility to distribute and resell books in smaller quantities than suppliers do.
The wholesalers whose business is connected only to books, journals and newspapers are generally
considered to be speciality wholesalers. Speciality wholesaler is the one that specializes in one
product line (or a few product lines) but carries the line or lines in considerable depth (MONASH
Marketing Dictionary 2004). This type of wholesaler can have products from various suppliers, but
the product type or industry is the same. Since the industry is specialized, such book wholesalers

For the wholesalers of books the warehouse or distribution center is the most important asset. The
main task of wholesalers is to buy the products from various suppliers and resell them to retailers,

Key Characteristics Of Data Warehouse By William H. Immon
Data warehouse does not mean just place for store data or save historical record of data, the form of
multi data source can be deceptive. Because, you can control of how big of data warehouse will be.
Data warehouse was founded by William H. Immon and he defines it as "subject–oriented,
integrated, nonvolatile, time–variant collection of data organized to support management needs" The
major of subjects is arranged in data warehouse. For example, inventory, products and customer, to
get more benefits form data warehouse it must be integrated by collecting from databases across
enterprises, the information for customers should have code or described specifically according to
departments. All departments the procedures on database are updated on a regular basis with
deletion, insertion and changes. The operations that only be in data warehouse the data can be
loaded and the data can be accessed. Once whole data forms and models are recorded, the data can
not change. The design of retrospective data warehousing is traditional, and many questions before
starting design to be work as required. What we sale? What will be the importance of our debt in the
next six months? Where is the best market for a new service? A data warehouse in the World Wide

AI and Cloud–based within WMS
Without technology supporting during the past times, companies manage their warehouse and
distribution centers only by the working labors, which was not efficient and effective approach. For
instance, workers can only work a limited hours a day that will cause the delay of information
transformation. In order to manage the warehouse more efficiently and effectively, people create the
Warehouse Management System (WMS) that I believe it could only do the simplest thing like
tracking the storage locations at first.
For now, majority of the large companies rely on the WMS to support and manage their daily

WMS vs. Cloud–based WMS Although the WMS has developed a lot for decades, there are still
some problems that we have to consider to improve and seek for the solutions. There are three main
pain points for the traditional WMS. First of all, the traditional WMS has long sales cycles and slow
payment processes. The longer the time is, the higher the costs. Secondly, the WMS actually has
long implementation periods and high costs with very poor versatility and too complicated
configurations. It is too complex and complicate that requires higher technology skills to control it.
Last but no the least, there is no suitable WMS solutions for a great number of SMEs (Small
Medium Enterprises). For a certain number of small companies, they may not have huge amount of
money to purchase the suitable WMS to fulfill their needs. Thus, it will cause the system
inadaptable to the real situation of the company. It seemed like the WMS is still not enough for
companies to manage the warehouses and distributions because it needs long time to process. Thus,
we have cloud–based WMS to easily control and manage the real–time visibility, mobility, and
functionality within the warehouses.
So, what is cloud–based WMS? The cloud is actually a technology that widely be used in our daily

How Touch And Light Technology Is A Viable Option For A...
Introduction
Touch–to–Light technology is very useful in a modern day warehouse. The technology is expansive
covering pick–to–light as well as put–to–light. The purpose of touch–to–light is to increase
productivity of workers in a warehouse by linking a system of light, button, cartons, and an ERP,
Enterprise Resource Planning, and or a WMS, Warehouse Management System. Many benefits are
associated with Touch–to–Light include increased accuracy and productivity, high pick rates,
improved safety, and much more. While these are great to have it is important to weigh them against
the negatives. Cons of this technology include difficulty in integration, costly to install, and less than
ideal utilization of warehouse space. If touch–to–light technology is deemed a viable option for a
warehouse many practical uses can be found including faster order completions, better working
conditions, and better productivity and accuracy.
Purpose of Touch–to–Light
Companies that operate high–volume, fast moving and complex warehouses are always looking for
ways to streamline the processes of their warehouses through the use of technology (Murray). The
picking and packing processes in a warehouse are the most time consuming and costliest processes
in a warehouse in terms of labor, accounting for about 50% of the total labor costs (How). Those
two activities, because of their heavy labor costs, are prime areas for a company to improve
efficiencies and reduce costs as much as possible. One way

With QuikTrac MMAS will be able to cut the time it takes to complete its physical inventory process in half and significantly improve inventory accuracy and warehouse efficiency using a wireless data collection solution that communicates in real time with its MAPICS enterprise resource planning system. Using label printers, MMAS has deployed bar coded location labels throughout its warehouse. Workers scan the location labels with the mobile computers, and key enter quantities during inventory moves. Warehouse employees will also use the devices for cycle counting, and annual physical inventories. In order for QuikTrac to be functional several system updates had to occur, software had to be updated and new servers had to be installed in order to hold the abundance of information that would now be input via wireless devices. QuikTrac system requires at least 2.0 GHz with 20 GB HD, 256 MD RAM running Windows XP Pro (Preferred), 2000, or 98 with ODBC ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 23. The Placement Of Product Warehouses Placement of Product Warehouses The placement of product warehouses has become a key instrumental feature in today's world of logistics. The placement of product warehouses does not only play a significant role in safeguarding the product before it reaches its final destination, but with the right location strategy the product will arrive at its destination in on a timely manner; satisfying both the retailer and consumer. Together with a well–organized strategy, retailers, suppliers, and manufactures can benefit greatly by the placement of product warehouses in terms of generating long–term capital. As previously stated the key to placement of product warehouses is having a strategy that fits the organization's needs. A strategy will be composed of the following factors location, efficiency, inventory, and the use of advanced technologies. Determining the location involves taking in consideration of the product, travel time, and cost of labor to restock the warehouse. A good example of this is Amazon and Walmart both of these retailers have revolutionized the placement of product warehouses suitable their products and consumers; in order to maximize their profit while maintaining their market share. In 2005, Walmart made drastic changes in order to manage their 300,000 stock keeping units (SKUs), by opening 40 high–velocity cross–dock distribution centers solely for the purpose of accommodate their perishable deliveries to its store locations (Fiveash, 2016). • 25. The Deployment Of Automation For An Automated Warehouse Executive Summary The change from a manual warehouse to an automated warehouse is significant and the impact of that change should never be under estimated. Even limited application of automated technologies will have a dramatic effect on the processes used in the warehouse, the management systems required to make it effective and on the people who have to adapt to accept its use. The deployment of automation in warehouses, whether it is a fully integrated solution or an enhancement to a manual technology, can bring competitive advantages to companies with benefits in staffing, property or service. In staffing, we could have reduced costs, providing improved ergonomics and an alternative to unproductive labor. Property includes saving on space, reduced facility size and reduced costs. Service benefits include improved order accuracy, product security and condition, and lead–times. Also, if a service provider like Amazon wants to launch its 'Prime' services in a developing nation which hardly has any money for automation services, they would find it very difficult to fulfil the customer requirements with their 2–day delivery system. This is because of the drawback of having a manual warehousing. Speaking of manual warehousing, there are numerous issues related to labor that a company might encounter in the long–run. Probably the biggest driver is the ever increasing cost of labor. Wages are spiraling downwards due to the financial crisis, but this may only be temporary. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 29. Cost And Return On Investment 1.1 Cost and Return on Investment: Implementing a data warehouse to consolidate both Virtual World Insurance Company, and Maxon Insurance Company, is probably the best way to combine their data. As this is a new merger, comparing both company's previous performance data with the performance after the merger will outweigh the cost of the data warehouse. Since they both use different means to store their data as well as two different CRMs, the flexibility of a data warehouse will be able to combine all these different types of data into one consolidated system. Both companies could have their data integrated without using a data warehouse but there would be multiple duplicate accounts added to preexisting ones. Having a data warehouse allows for SQL queries that can provide easy access to important statistics such as data analytics, customer satisfaction ratings, and financial records. Specific operations areas that will benefit from having a data warehouse are the sales, marketing, finance, and management departments of the auto insurance company. The sales department will be able to analyze how many new customers they are acquiring each quarter based on customer satisfaction ratings, and market growth. Marketing and management will be able to pin point peak times in auto sales to release more ads enticing new customers to purchase their auto insurance from this new merger. A Management System For The Warehouses And Stores 1 Abstract This project proposes a complete asset management system for the warehouses and stores to efficiently record, manage and track the products kept in the store. This unified solution can help the company record appropriate need, security, and statistical data, which can be used to create more efficient asset management protocols. This system employs multiple technologies: An RFID reader, RS–232 communication, UART, LCD Interface, a microcontroller, EPROM, and GSM communication; all of these technologies are described in details. When the RFID tag is in the range of reader, asset data is read by the RFID reader and transmitted to the microcontroller via RS–232 communication. The microcontroller takes this data and asks to store ... Imagine someone whose primary job function is to ensure the products from a store successfully make their ways out to the respective consumers. Part of this involves keeping accurate records that verify the products when they are brought to the store or when they are taken out. The difficulty for an individual to follow every package and record the relevant data. That person cannot possibly track each individual product manually, as they may not be able to remember and memorize huge amount of assets kept in the store. It's a tedious job to make inventory on paper for huge amount of assets present in the store also the probability of error increases a lot. To better illustrate the magnitude of this ... Warehouse activities have essential elements that run them and how management highlights them as indicators is by comparing the process value with normal, standard values. (Liviu lliea, 2009) The indicators are the key to performance improvement, and there are various ways this is done internationally. * Colson and Dorigo, (Liviu lliea, 2009) offer an example of a software tool that is built to measure warehouse activities. The criteria measured includes: storage surface and volume, dangerous items, temperature control, storage area separation, distance to transportation locations, certifications, hours of operation, customs assistance, technology integration, equipment handling, and dock activities. * Krauth, (Liviu lliea, 2009) uses around 130 indicators to assess warehouse performance. Some of these indicators include storage surface and volume, storage racks, dock activities, hours of operation, customs assistance, pallets per hour, and pallets per square meter. * John Hill, (Liviu lliea, 2009) uses just three indicators to assess warehouse performance. Hiram Miller—a Essay Yizhou Xu Section 002 Case: Hiram Miller–A I, the general manager of Hiram Miller Chicago branch, am considering we should have something done with our current warehouse on Jefferson Street. The basic problem is that the 60–year–old warehouse is not capable for our daily business from many aspects any more as we move into the 21st century. Due to many limitations, the shortcomings to run that warehouse are overwhelming the advantages it remains. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The quality of the warehouse and the equipments can be improved if we whitewash the warehouse and replace some old machines with the news. The working environment will be polished up and make the work more efficient, meanwhile, will not change the basic operating structure. For example, good condition elevators can eliminate the battle between the shipping and receiving departments. The second choice is finding a third–party warehouse which meets our basic requirements. We can utilize third party to manage the warehouse and reach our goal as well. Finally, we can build a new warehouse near the O'Hare Airport where has ample of land so that we can construct a warehouse fully meets our requirements. For our long–term benefits, I strongly suggest to build a new warehouse near the airport. Renovation is a short–term solution and just keeps our business work normally and I cannot believe how long that old–fashion building would maintain. The core problems are the weak floor and the low ceilings which cannot be restructured. Those will constrain heavy equipment to move in. The work needs to be done by hand which means slow and more workers. On another hand, if we rent a warehouse rather than own by ourselves, we will lose the control of the warehouse even though it solves our problems. Thus, the effective communication and the specialized service may be the problems. Despite of sacrificing the advantages of inner city location like vicinity of our ... For instance, workers can only work a limited hours a day that will cause the delay of information transformation. In order to manage the warehouse more efficiently and effectively, people create the Warehouse Management System (WMS) that I believe it could only do the simplest thing like tracking the storage locations at first. WMS vs. Cloud–based WMS Although the WMS has developed a lot for decades, there are still some problems that we have to consider to improve and seek for the solutions. There are three main pain points for the traditional WMS. First of all, the traditional WMS has long sales cycles and slow payment processes. The longer the time is, the higher the costs. Secondly, the WMS actually has long implementation periods and high costs with very poor versatility and too complicated configurations. It is too complex and complicate that requires higher technology skills to control it. Last but no the least, there is no suitable WMS solutions for a great number of SMEs (Small Medium Enterprises). For a certain number of small companies, they may not have huge amount of money to purchase the suitable WMS to fulfill their needs. Thus, it will cause the system inadaptable to the real situation of the company. It seemed like the WMS is still not enough for companies to manage the warehouses and distributions because it needs long time to process. Thus, we have cloud–based WMS to easily control and manage the real–time visibility, mobility, and functionality within the warehouses. So, what is cloud–based WMS? The technology is expansive covering pick–to–light as well as put–to–light. The purpose of touch–to–light is to increase productivity of workers in a warehouse by linking a system of light, button, cartons, and an ERP, Enterprise Resource Planning, and or a WMS, Warehouse Management System. Many benefits are associated with Touch–to–Light include increased accuracy and productivity, high pick rates, improved safety, and much more. While these are great to have it is important to weigh them against the negatives. Cons of this technology include difficulty in integration, costly to install, and less than ideal utilization of warehouse space. If touch–to–light technology is deemed a viable option for a warehouse many practical uses can be found including faster order completions, better working conditions, and better productivity and accuracy. Purpose of Touch–to–Light Companies that operate high–volume, fast moving and complex warehouses are always looking for ways to streamline the processes of their warehouses through the use of technology (Murray).
