Geoff, . I’M Looking Forward To Meeting With You Tomorrow.
Geoff,
I'm looking forward to meeting with you tomorrow. I wanted to use this email to clarify what I'd like to cover tomorrow. Last time we talked about
marriage, I feel like the conclusion of the conversation was that I have the freedom to marry, and you gave me some passages in scripture to look at to
start thinking about marriage. When I talked to you last Sunday, I told you that I want to get engaged to Katie and that we're both eager to get
engaged. We're feeling pretty confident in our relationship but there are a few things that we would like to work on. We discussed getting engaged in
February and getting married this summer. I want to get engaged in February and I don't want to wait but I still have reservation. My reservation ...

5. Is sexual desire plating to big (or too small) a role in part of your decision? Sexual desire does not play too big of a role in our relationship, but I am
sexually attracted to Katie.
6. Do you have a track record of solving problems biblically? We couldn't decide how to answer this question because we have not had any
problems in our relationship yet. As far as individually, she said that one of her big problems is that she likes to hold problems in until she blows,
and that she's kind of a people pleaser. I tend to be a little more abrasive with my problems, and I like to rip the wound open. We'll see how that works
out.
7. We agreed that we are very much heading the same direction in life. We agree on having children, I'm not sure if we agree on Church involvement,
and I'm not sure if we agree on missions, but I think that those can be continuing discussions.
8. We couldn't think of any cultural differences that we have.
9. Do either of you have any complicating entanglements from past marriages or relationships?
We were sitting in my car discussing these questions after deciding that it was too brisk to go for a walk. An elephant was sitting on my chest as I tried
to fill my lungs with air, I wasn't sure If I could get the words out. I decided to begin with the lesser of my two sins. I told Katie about the girl that I
had made out with in a dark room when I was 13 or 14. I

Evolution Of Dating Research Paper
Is dating a thing of the past? How comfortable would someone feel if he or she had to go on a date with the entire family of the person he or she
was attracted to? Several decades ago dating was quite different from today; people rarely dated someone they would not consider marrying. Going
out on a date was a big deal; generally people didn't go out on a date without meeting the entire family first and if the family didn't approve the dating
was stopped before it even began. Nevertheless, if the family approved, then the dating became almost a ritualistic process in which several dates with
the family would take place before the person could even be trusted to be alone with the perspective date.
The dating of decades past was intended to lead into something serious with the idea that marriage would ultimately take place in the end; this being
said, the dating process could sometimes take years. Dating has changed drastically today as compared to 20 years ago; control in a relationship is
more of an issue and domestic violence is increasing. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Imagine dating that dream person during the 1950s, and 1960s––this would require a great deal of patience. The concept of dating, in those days,
focused on the entire family and not just one person. They wanted the first impression on the family to be perfect. If the family didn't like you, you
weren't getting close to their daughter. For example, it was expected for the young man to spend time with the family before going on a date with the
young lady even then, they were not alone. Today, meeting parents or family isn't a major factor in dating anymore. It is very common that people
will date multiple people and the family won't even know about it. The reason for dating has changed, back then it would lead to marriage and now
this generation does it for pleasure and a good

Paper Pills: The Cure for Doctor Reefy
"Paper Pills" is a short story written by Sherwood Anderson in his most recognized book, Winesburg, Ohio, which has several interrelated stories
(Belasco 859). The story is about an older physician, named Dr. Reefy, who is distanced from society, and only expresses his thoughts on pieces of
paper, which he stuffs into his pockets (Bort). Eventually, he meets a younger woman who he marries and shares those crumbled pieces of paper with
for a brief period before her death. The story is recounted by an unknown narrator, which is the same narrator throughout the book–using several
instances of imagery and symbolism to describe Dr. Reefy's hands, truths, and his courtship and relationship with the younger woman. The description
of Dr. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, once the papers–or thoughts–become hard and overflowing in Doctor Reefy's pocket they become synonymous to the creation of a
"pyramid of truth" (867). And once a "pyramid" is created, Doctor Reefy destroys it (867). The manner in which he destroys the "pyramid" is when
he dumps the hardened paper balls out of his coat pocket on to the floor (867).
Symbolism and imagery is also used to describe the relationship Doctor Reefy has with his only friend John Spaniard, "who owned a tree nursery"
(867). The narrator says, "...in Doctor Reefy there were the seeds of something very fine," which the seeds could be interpreted as thoughts since
Doctor Reefy's hands are described as "gnarled apples" (867). Furthermore, John's occupation could have deeper meaning, and be construed as John
being a tree since he is called a "sentimentalist" by Doctor Reefy (857). And when he calls John a "sentimentalist" he means John has become someone
who "lives his life by" a truth, and, therefore, a grotesque as described in the aforementioned story (862). Thus, when Doctor Reefy throws the hardened
paper balls at John, and says, "'That is to confound you, you blithering old sentimentalist,'" he is trying to suggest John detach himself from whatever
truth he has adopted.
Another relationship of Doctor Reefy's that also uses

Social Rules For Dating
The social rules for dating have drastically changed over the years. In today's society, dating has lost all of its' meaning and has been overruled by the
term "hooking up". Social media and texting have taken over the means of communicating face to face and made our generation socially awkward.
Since the arrival of new technologies and the changing definitions of traditional dating, "dating" has become a more loosely used term. According to
"The History of Dating", between the timeframe of 1900 and 1910 was the start of the dating era. As mentioned in the History of Dating, men would
address young women, who they were interested in, by stopping by their house for a visit. The parents of the woman would oversee the couple's
visitation and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

have to meet in person and after meeting, they would then decide if they wanted to continue the relationship. They did not have the option of going

Change Of Heart: The Evolution Of Online Dating
Change of Heart Although the practice of dating has transpired for innumerable years: the customs surrounding this pastime have evolved from
courting to casual dating into the more prevalent online dating, thus revealing the many traditions that have been lost throughout time.
Dating has evolved in many directions over the last several hundred years. Dating prior to the 20th century consisted of two people of opposite sexes
finding out about the opposite person with the common goal of marriage. The man and woman typically grew up in the same area and the interactions
took place primarily in the girl's home "under the watchful eye" of her mother and male siblings. Multiple partners were not a practice prior to meeting
at the alter. The rules ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Transportation also played a significant role during this period because couples had more privacy and intimacy. Men picked the women up in a car
and took her to various places which usually called for money; which was the responsibility of the man. (dating, mating, relating)
Dating has changed drastically over the past few generations through pre–marital sex and many other interactions. Sex, which used to be a disdained
practice before marriage, is now a more accepted interaction. The media has created the thought for young teens and adults that pureness is not that
big of a deal. Young men and women now think that this great gift can be lost if it is lost for the sake of entertainment.(Sex and dating in the
Christian life) With this in mind it has created what is now known as "friends with benefits." This has come about because men now know that they
do not need to be within a marriage to get a great advantage of a married couple.(Boundless) If a couple chooses to partake in sexual intercourse they
have many repercussions to ponder. Sex can cause pregnancies or sexual transmitted diseases.(Everything you need to

A Relationship Between Hero And Her Eventual Suitor
In this passage, the reader is exposed to two distinct categories of relationships, one of which being the relationship between Hero and her eventual
suitor which is a type of relationship borne out of necessity and social conformity. Both Anthony's and Leonato's statements in this passage support this
traditional ideal of marriage and love by dictating to Hero her answer in regards to the impending proposal from whom Hero's family believes to be
Don Pedro rather than granting her the power of choice. Anthony blatantly assumes that Hero will adhere to the course of action her father wishes
saying, "Well, niece, I trust you will be ruled by your father" (2.1.42–43). If Hero is being "ruled" by the desires of her father, it makes her decision to
say yes one of necessity in that she must give the answer of her father and not that in her own heart for fear of some sort of retribution. Leonato later
reinforces this notion about relationships in stating, "Daughter remember what I told you. If the Prince do solicit you in that kind, you know your
answer" (2.1.56–57). Alone this statement is somewhat vague leaving it available to some interpretation, one of which being that Leonato is reassuring
Hero that she discovered the response that best fits her desires in a conversation held offstage and that she should not second guess herself. However, if
this reminder is applied within the context of Anthony's previous statement it takes on a different meaning that reinforces this

Spira's Argument
There is no one–size fit for all scenarios in considering the best practice between online and offline dating, but rather, both should be embraced with
discrete moderation.
An alternative
An alternative argument to the Spira's view point is that offline dating can be more beneficial than offline dating, especially at times when one is
searching for the perfect partner. An alternative gives a different view point on a given topic.
Conclusion and Premises from the 4 articles
The first premise is that offline dating was found to lead to more marriages than online dating according to a research conducted. Secondly, marriages
that resulted from offline dating were seen to have lasted. The third premise is that online dating was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Scene:
Hinata was walking home from the academy and just made her way to the main entrance of the Hyuuga compound. As she started making her way
through the Hyuuga compound's hall to her room, Neji appeared.
"Hinata–sama, Hiashi–sama summons you", Neji said coldly and practically spitting out –sama.

"Are you sure? You have not even heard, who the suitor is", Hiashi replied trying to hide a grin. He knew that his daughter was already in love with
someone else from the academy. The suitor Hiashi has picked would be someone worthy of courting his daughter.
"Y–Yes, father.", Hinata weakly retorted. Hiashi expecting the response began to hide a maliciously playful grin behind his mask. He summoned a
branch family member. Hiashi began reaching for the arranged marriage contract and was very slowly attempting to hand it to the branch member while
saying, "Tell Uzumaki–san that my daughter refuses".
Hinata eyes widened and she suddenly came to the realization who her suitor was. Before, the branch family member could grab the contract, in a blur,
she swiped the contract from her father's hand.
"Hinata, I thought you decided that you did not want the suitor I proposed", Hiashi said while failing to hold back his laughter.
Hinata's face began turning a dark crimson color, and she attempted to find her voice.
"I–I–I changed my mind, I accept the proposal", Hinata managed to contort. She grabbed the tucked the

'Arranged Marriage' By Sanjay Kali
Did you know, in some cultures such as India, Korea, and Orthodox Jews allow arranged marriages? Arranged marriage is when two families agree
to marry their kids, usually without the child's consent. In the article "Arranged Marriage" by Sanjay Kali, it talks about the positive and negative
things about arranged marriages. I strongly believe that arranged marriages are a negative idea since the majority of arranged marriages never end
well. In arranged marriages there are many negative things. Such as making the decision to marry someone who you have only met, and is a complete
stranger to you. Another negative thing is not knowing much about the person, such as what their dislikes and likes are. Sanjay Kali said "There is no

Sexual Deprivation Increases Ethanol Intake in Drosophila
G. Shohat–Ophir, K. R. Kaun, R. Azanchi, U. Heberlein
There is scientific consensus today that addiction is a chronic disease that changes both brain structure and function, as abnormal functioning of the
brain's reward system (the nucleus accumbens) has been associated with addictive behavior, originating either from a psychoactive drug, a monetary
reward, a sexual encounter, or a satisfying meal. Drosophila melanogaster, a fruit fly was used in these experiments to further explain attraction for
alcohol–containing foods, and the effect of social experiences on behavior.
The researchers used two different sexual experiences to generate two cohorts of male flies. The first cohort, rejected–isolated, was subjected to
courtship conditioning; they experienced 1–hour sessions of sexual rejection by mated females, three times a day, for 4 days. Such conditioning
suppresses future male courtship behavior, even toward receptive virgin females. The second cohort of mated–grouped flies experienced 6–hour
sessions of mating with multiple receptive virgin females at a ratio of 1:5 for 4 days. Flies from each cohort were then tested in a two–choice
preference assay, in which they deliberately choose to consume food with or without 15% ethanol supplementation.
There was a significant difference between the 2 cohorts of drosophila in different respects such as exposure to the social experience

Female Characters Of The Play By William Shakespeare 's '...
First impressions of any play or novel are largely gained from its title. In this case, the title also happens to be the concluding line of the play itself; "
'Tis Pity She's a Whore" suggests the play is based around a woman and her promiscuous actions. This instantly places women in a bad light before the
play even commences suggesting that there was a woman in a shameful situation due to her 'whore' like actions towards men and how things could
have been different if she did not allow her promiscuous side to take over control. This title makes women appear to be inferior to men as if this
would not have happened to a man as they would never have found themselves in a situation such as this woman has found herself in. There are a
vast variety of female characters in the play with many diverse personality types. Ford writes most of the female characters to be weak and inferior to
men to fit with the Victorian audiences idea of how women were to be perceived – 'powerless and at the mercy of men'. There are also certain female
characters such as Putana and Hippolita who appear to go against the stereotypical idea of how women should act and behave during the Victorian era,
these characters would have been extremely shocking for a 19th century audience. At the end of the play all of the women die nasty deaths and in all
situations are due to their actions that surround men. They all die or are murdered for different reasons but in all circumstances involve being

Marriage And Arranged Marriages
So this topic that I have been wanting to address for awhile. I was talking to a friend the other day about the whole dating aspect of BYU–Idaho as
well as just in the Mormon community. Now my friend grew up outside of the church and so she has seen both the Mormon culture of dating as well
as the way that the world does it. Now she pointed out to me something that I never really thought of before. She told me that it almost seems like we
are so focused on the aspect of dating and getting married because in our culture that is something that we strongly believe in because of the covenants
that we make with marriage. She said that we are in a sense having these arranged type of marriages, in the sense that everyone around us is telling
us to date this person or that person or get married because it is a commandment and we are making these decisions not because we truly love this
person or we even truly believe that we want to get married, or even fully understand the promises we will be making to that person and also to God.
We aren't fully making this decision because we truly believe that it is a good choice but because others around us think so and to me that does seem a
little bit like an arranged marriage.
I'm not totally knocking arranged marriages because there are a lot of people out there who make them work, even more than people who choose the
person that they marry. The only thing I disagree with arranged marriages is the fact that agency is taken out of marriage,

The Importance of Being Earnest Essay
AThe Importance of Being Earnest a play written by Oscar Wilde is set in England in the late Victorian era. Wilde uses obvious situational and
dramatic irony within the play to satirize his time period. According to Roger Sale in Being Ernest the title has a double meaning to it and is certainly
another example of satire used by Wilde. With a comedic approach, Wilde ridicules the absurdities of the character's courtship rituals, their false faces,
and their secrets. (Sale, 478) In the Victorian era, courtship rituals were slightly different from modern time courtships. It started with couples speaking
first, going out together, and finally they would keep each other company after mutual attraction was confirmed. The character ... Show more content on

"Pardon me, you are not engaged to anyone. When you do become engaged to someone, I, or your father, should his health permit him, will inform
you of the fact. An engagement should come on a young girl as a surprise, pleasant or unpleasant, as the case may be. It is hardly a matter that she
could be allowed to arrange for herself" (Wilde, 622). Lady Bracknell's harsh criticism and stubborn ways are customary of upper–class mothers in the
era. Ironically enough, Algernon later develops a kind of forbidden love. The object of his affection is young and being taught to be unimaginative and
serious. One thing that Jack and Algernon have in common is that they both have these false faces. Algernon's alter ego Bunbury is a version of himself
used in the country but he uses Ernest to marry Cecily. The story deals with Ernest, this immorally imaginary man that both Cecily and Gwendolyn
become engaged to, it exemplifies the irony within the name. Most of the irony comes from this character. One of Wilde's satiric targets is romantic
and sentimental love, which he ridicules by having the women fall in love with a man because of his name rather than more personal attributes.
Gwendolyn said "No, there is very little music in the name Jack, if any at all, indeed. It does not thrill. It produces

Functionalist Perspective on Dating, Courting, and Other...
Dating, courting, and other pre–marriage arrangements are practices that are influenced by the time period, social conditions and constructs, biology,
cultural norms, and institutional structures that surround people. Dating has changed a lot in the past century. In the 1920's to 1940's, dating involved
a more informal dating. For the first time there were no chaperones on dates between males and females. The dates required no formal commitment to
each other and there was more freedom. Previously the community and church established the dating rules, but now peers institute the rules. Instead of

To understand dating, courting, and other pre–marriage arrangements we must look at a particular time and place to understand the ways in which a
society works and therefore how the people in that society go about activities like dating. In modern America, dating has emerged as an activity that is
not often regulated by adults as it once had been. There are many explanations for this change including the change in lifestyle that industry and
technological advances have brought about. Sociologists point out that the idea of romantic love did not even exist prior to the industrial revolution.
Marriage was an institution that allowed a man and woman to enhance their chances of survival and quality of life with one another. Romantic love
as we now know it did not exist as a concept. After the industrial revolution when people did not depend on each other as much to survive, the idea
of romantic love first appeared. After this time some feminists and sociologists point out that marriage and motherhood was used to subjugate women
to men and to keep them out of the work force. Dating at a young age is characterized as fun and is done for companionship rather than as a serious
activity for the purpose of finding a lifelong mate. Group dating is a way in which students have been able to move away from traditional, two–person
dating which implies intimacy to them. Doing things in groups saves

Teenage Dating in the 1950s
Teenagers in the 1950's are so iconic that, for some, they represent the last generation of innocence before it is "lost" in the sixties. When asked to
imagine this lost group, images of bobbysoxers, letterman jackets, malt shops and sock hops come instantly to mind. Images like these are so
classic, they, for a number of people, are "as American as apple pie." They are produced and perpetuated by the media, through films like Grease and
Pleasantville and television shows like Happy Days, The Donna Reed Show, and Leave It to Beaver. Because of these entertainment forums, these
images will continue to be a pop cultural symbol of the 1950's. After the second World War, teenagers became much more noticeable in... Show more

She then is given the option of accepting his call by letting him in or rejecting it by making up an excuse as to why she cannot see him. Refreshments
were often served (though not always), and the entertainment was primarily piano playing in the parlor. But because the lower classes were not so
well–endowed so that they own pianos or even parlors, they started their own form of "courtship" which soon became known as dating. This practice
was soon picked up by the upper classes, and from there it progressed into the middle class, with which it is still inherently associated today (Bailey 17).
Calling and dating are so intrinsically different it is hard to imagine how the transition from one to another was even made. Firstly, calling was
practiced with the intention of finding a suitable husband for a young lady; whereas, in dating, this was, and still is, not the primary goal. People date
because it is "enjoyable, pleasant, and valuable" (Merrill 62), and they thought that they could gain rewarding experiences from it. In the fifties and
surrounding decades, handbooks and other books exploring relationships described dating as a fun activity in which teens are allowed to meet and
mingle with many members of the opposite sex. Besides, dating allowed young people to be with each other without their parents interfering. Secondly,

Analysis Of Alfred Hitchcock 's Rear Window
It is a Trap
It is just as easy to fall into the trap of our voyeuristic society today as it was for the people of the 1950's. In Alfred Hitchcock's, "Rear Window"
voyeurism is a major theme conveyed throughout the movie. J.B. Jefferies, Lisa, and Stella prove that human fascination with voyeurism is not only
addicting, but over time becomes contagious and emotionally detrimental.
In the beginning of the movie the audience is introduced to the main character, J.B. Jeffries. After an injury at work, Jefferies is stuck in his apartment
with little to do. This is when the idea of voyeurism is first seen in the movie. According to Google Books, voyeurism is "the observation of another
person doing a private act." J.B. spends his time looking out his window doing just that. He peers into his neighbors' apartments and watches as
they live their everyday lives. He thinks he has each of his neighbors figured out just by watching them through their windows. By the middle of
the movie Jefferies becomes so addicted to being a voyeur that he feels the need to be closer. He therefore achieves this need by using his camera
lens and telescope to look closer into the other rooms. When this addiction of Jefferies first starts off, both Stella, his nurse, and Lisa, his girlfriend,
did not approve. Lisa and Stella find it extremely odd of Jeffries to have become so hooked to being a voyeur that he needs to stay up late into the
night just to watch his neighbors' lives unfold. By the end of

Disagreeing With Online Dating

When it comes to dating certain individual never dealt with the awful feelings of unreciprocated affection; either they have never been rejected or

individuals used the Internet as an alternative to dating. In order to find their acquaintances, they use various social media platforms to engage in a mass

The Suitors and Disloyal Servants in the Odyssey Get What...
'The Suitors and the disloyal servants get what they deserve.' How far do you agree with this statement?
In the closing passages of the Odyssey, the suitors and disloyal servants are punished for their crimes against Odysseus, and it does indeed seem
that the death penalty doled out by Odysseus is harsh. However, at this particular period of Greek history, it was expected that each man take his
own vengeance against his trespassers as there was no judicial system in place to deal with these problems at the time, therefore it seems justified
that as their crimes stretched over a period of nearly 20 years and were directly against xenia, the law of Zeus, that Odysseus take his revenge as he

The attitudes of the teenagers.
Not all teenagers will be rude or disrespectful, but some disrespect is a normal part of teenage growth and development. They are learning to express
and test out his/her own independent ideas. Developing independence is a key part of growing up.
A teenager's mood can change quickly. Because of how teenage brains develop, teenagers are not always able to quickly handle their changing feelings
and reactions to everyday or unexpected things, Sometimes this can lead to over–sensitivity.

Today's generation is really different from before. 48 out 50 have agreed that the attitude of this generation's teenagers have changed. We can say that
this generation became corrupted. Filipino teenagers before doesn't act this way. They were polite and respectful. Most of the teenagers before are
really well trained and disciplined.
The main reason that made the teenagers today different from before is the influence of technology. Back then there were no high tech gadgets. Not
like today that we are exposed to many things good or bad. We have the internet, media, and technology. They don't have that before. We can say that
everything they did was through hard work. We teenager grew up in this generation and we got used to it, so if we try to imagine that we lived in the
same way they did before, it would be hard. No cellphone, no internet, no computers? We might think that it would be a disaster. The influence of

Courtship Rituals
In my opinion courtship rituals have drastically changed over time but have also still held onto some aspects of romance, dating, and traditions that
couples set early on. Courtship rituals are the traditions during a certain period of time where two people get to know each other before striving to
marry their significant other. Courtship rituals can vary depending on the culture and the people using it. Many have mixed opinions on the topic.
Nowadays, relationships can be tricky and are nothing like the movies. Dating practices differ now from the late 1900's and early 2000's. For this essay
I have decided to interview my younger cousin, who is fourteen years old. Through the interview process she gave me the insight of younger teens and
preteens dating. Communication, social presence, and technology have changed the ways relationships are viewed and acted upon.
"Dating had almost completely replaced the old system of calling by the mid–1920s – and, in so doing, had transformed American courtship." An

Keeping in touch, when it comes to good or bad news or just wanting to talk to the other technology have made it incalculably easier now. For
committed couples, this is a good thing because before in earlier time periods when one was gone for vacation for the entire summer they had no way
to talk to make sure their relationship is still steady. Technology has also led to long distance relationships. With the advancement of technology
couples who either met online or had to split up due to college, job transfers, or for family reasons the use of electronics could keep the two together.

How far do you agree with the opinion that courtship and marriage are undermined and ridiculed in "The Taming of the Shrew"?
Shakespeare's drama "The Taming of the Shrew" is set in the Elizabethan era, and marriage and courtship was very different than how it is in the
present. Back then it was the parents who picked suitors for their daughters. This choice would be final for the daughters but often women rebelled
against the decision as they wanted to choose their own suitors. "Romeo and Juliet" is an example of this. In our "Taming of the Shrew" this is no
different as Baptista Minola chooses the suitors in which marry his daughters.
We first see this undermining of courtship and marriage when Petruchio speaks of his view on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Petruchio takes away the whole aspect of "falling in love" from Katherina as he forces her to marry him and her father happily abides, "will you,
nill you, I will marry you". This again makes a charade of marriage. I agree when CoppГ©lia Kahn says "The overt force Petruchio wields over Kate
by marrying her against her will in the first place, and then by denying her every wish and comfort, stamping, shouting, reducing her to exhaustion,
etc., is but a farcical representation of the psychological realities of marriage..." as the audience would definitely find it funny and is a perfect example
of Shakespeare's attempts to ridicule the sanctity of marriage.
As Robert Heilman demonstrates, the taming is best viewed as farce which "carries out our desire to simplify life by a selective anesthetizing of the
whole person; man retains all his energy yet never really gets hurt" and this is shown as the drama is a comedy of mocking the institution of marriage.
Another negative outlook against marriage and courtship is when we find of Hortensio's plans to disguise himself as a "schoolmaster well seen in
music to instruct Bianca". Lucentio also disguises himself by swapping clothes and identities with Tranio so that he may "woo" Bianca secretly. This
shows courtship to be a mockery as when you court someone, you are opening up and showing the person who you are and that you've nothing to hide.
Hortensio is doing the complete opposite as

Young People Not Dating Research Paper
Webster dictionary defines the word courtship as the "Activities that occur when people are developing a romantic relationship that could lead to
marriage or the period of time when such activities occur". Today's generation is unfamiliar with the term "Courtship" we refer to it as "Dating". The
average young person ranging from late teen to early thirties has not been on an actual date. Young people losing traditions that were instill in older
generation, traditions that are the reason we all are here today. Singles growing tired of the stages of dating has only added to this issue. Lacks of
integrity, originality, and selfishness have young people not dating which cause it to be outdated. Young people of this generation lack integrity
because quite a few do not know the meaning of the word. Integrity means "the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles; moral
uprightness". Today's young people have thrown every inch of moral's and honesty right out the door. Lying has become a second language to some of
us, that we do it without even knowing it. For instance if a young woman and young man have intentions on being in a relationship, but the conflict

Arranging A Marriage In India Summary
"Arranging a Marriage in India" by Serena Nanda is an insightful article in my opinion. As an American, our culture regarding marriage is very
basic with searching for love on our own and then deciding for ourselves who we should marry or even if we shall marry at all. This article gives
insight into how this process is viewed as acceptable and the complex process of arranging a marriage for a son.
The author begins with the basics of marriages in India, explaining that arranged marriages are so common that marriages not setup have a special
term. She goes on to speak of how the couples set to wed usually do not meet before the ceremony and that if they do, it is for only a momentary
conversation after the decisions have been made. However, she points out, that if one person objects to the match that the parents agreed to, they do not
have to wed.
The author then leads into her own opinions and cultural biases. She finds the tradition unjust and questions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sita gives her own view point and justifies how she so readily hands over this responsibility to her parents. In Sita's culture, parents are highly
respected and are seen as experienced enough to offer guidance in such an important decision. Sita goes on to explain how in India young persons do
not date and have minimal social interaction with the opposite sex. Sita then reasons that instead of wasting all their time searching for the right
person like Americans, young people readily give up this duty to their parents so that they can enjoy their lives and let their parents worry. Sita's next
justification on how she knows she will marry a good man is that her parents investigate their background, checks their social standing, and various
other particulars. Her final defense against the author's questioning about how she marries a stranger is that she has a lifetime to get to know and love

What Is The Theme Of Isang Tikbalang Ka Lang

"Isang Tikbalang Ka Lang" By Eros Atalia is a story which provided a short narrative that explains the unrevealed attitude of one of the variables in
the story. Once, a tikbalang fell in love with a woman which at the end, gave him a comprehension that makes him think of his unconsciousness
because of a possessive woman knowing him well, on the other hand, he doesn't know the actual character of hers.
Specifically, there was tikbalang, who is an openhanded lover. Moreover, the loved one is the attractive, engaging woman. They both have the
capabilities to love, but in different ways and principles. The duwende, as an extra variable, is described as an old, wealthy man which is a contrast to

There is a lot of lesson can be learned in this Atalio's story. Although tikbalang is known to be the hopeless one, the purpose of the author in creating
this character is to give advice and remind people, both of the men and women. Maybe, the reason of the author in conveying the messages is: first; to
present the uniqueness and importance in the human history of the different ways of Filipino courtships; to give lesson that love isn't about wealth;
and of course, the importance and unlikeness of the Philippine Mythology. I conclude that maybe there are really some other girls like the mortal girl

Cultural Culture Courtship And Marriage
Cultural relativism says that we must examine cultural practices within a cultural context, seeking to understand different practices from the eye of
those who practice them. It is sometimes hard to understand other cultures from an emic perspective, and there is a tendency to favor your culture,
viewing it as superior. It is helpful to change your perspective, assuming an outside view towards your culture and taking an inside look at another.
Over the course of this paper, I will explain my American Culture courtship and marriage traditions through the etic eye to show the perspective to an
outsider, and I will examine an aspect of the Sub–Saharan African polygyny marriage from an emic perspective to become familiar with this lifestyle.
In this section, I will examine the American culture in courtship and marriage from an etic perspective. As Crapo(2013) describes etic as "etic models
invariably describe cultures in ways that seem alien to its participants but facilitate comparisons between cultures and the discovery of universal
principles in the structure and functioning of cultures" (p.27). In the article Body Ritual among the Nacierema, Miner(1956) describes an aspect of the
"Nacierema" culture from an etic perspective, allowing readers to realize the Nacierema are Americans. From an etic eye, Americans practice probably
seems as strange to an outsider, as their culture is to ours. In American culture, there is courtship and marriage. Courtship in

Social Dating is a Modern Phenomenon in our Society
Most people, especially teenagers, are influenced by their peers, parents and social media. Whether it is what is in style or what the kids are doing
these days, it seems like everyone is following each other either through a social network such as Facebook or through face to face interactions. One
of the areas in which they are influenced most is dating. Dating is a modern phenomenon which has only recently been brought up in the last century.
Not only is dating the norm in the United States, but also in many other modern societies around the world. Courting has become a thing of the past
and society has become more and more aware of the idea of dating.
Dating is not only recent, but looking throughout history we see that in most cases ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many times we see the unpopular girls at school trying to go out with a popular guy in order to gain a higher social status. We have exchanged the
survival of the fittest view of acquiring a mate in order to have a higher survival rate for the higher social status acquired from dating someone popular.
Our daily lives are bombarded with pop culture and societal pressure of many sorts. This pressure may come in various forms such as peer pressure,
or even as simple as television shows or ads. It is unusual that a high school or even a middle school student is unaware of what happens during a date.
Many of these students have even attended a date or have carried a relationship with someone intimately. Their idea of a relationship is making out, and
putting out. Engaging in sexual intercourse before marriage almost never came up before in the era before dating, but what has changed in today's
culture that has made this topic bearable in recent times? Steven E. Roahds argues that, "The collegiate women are available because most of the
women's movement has insisted that sexual liberation is an important part of women's liberation and because the Pill seemed to make sexual liberation
costless" (515). In this example we see that Roahds claims that the social influences of women activists has swayed today's society into being immune
to the taboo that sexual intercourse had on the general public long ago with "The Pill" (515).

Assisted Marriage: A Potential benefit to western society.
Arranged Marriage is perhaps one of the most shocking and stark affronts to western sensibilities. American minds, with their concepts of freedom and
choice, would seem unable to grasp any benefit in a system which does not involve the complete free will and consent of both parties in a romantic
relationship. The darkest images of arranged marriage paint in our minds the vision of two strangers meeting for the first time on their wedding day.
Sometimes we envision children forced to wed each other, other times we picture the even more abhorrent idea of a wedding between a much older
adult and an under aged child. News stories over the past few years have shown perhaps one of the most universally heart wrenching examples in the
public's memory, the case of Pastor Warren Jeffs in his polygamous marriage, as well as sexual assault, of teenage and pre–teen girls (State v. Jeffs). Is
it possible arranged marriage could be anything more than a barbarous institution, a healthy marriage and well–adjusted children could result from such
a union? Can Americans possibly be able to adapt such a foreign and arcane concept into a 21st century lifestyle? Many factors go into the defining
of a successful marriage. Divorce rates are one of the most common sets of statistics referred to in order to gauge the success of marriage in a nation or
place, as are marriage

Courtship in Much Ado About Nothing by William Shakespeare
The themes of love, marriage and courtship are an important part of 'Much Ado about nothing'; they are presented in a way that reflects the attitudes of
the society at that time. I will explore the different attitudes of modern audiences and Shakespeare's audience towards these themes in the play.
The two examples of relationships I have chosen are Beatrice and Benedick's and Hero and Claudio's. This is because I think they are in contrast with
each other, at the beginning of the play it appears that Hero and Claudio will be the perfect couple formed in a conventional way, Claudio goes through

Although Shakespeare's plays present love as unpredictable, as there are many images of cupid in 'Much Ado' as well as love at first sight in his other
plays such as in Romeo and Juliet.
Beatrice and Benedick's relationship appeals more to a modern audience, they are direct and confident in expressing their own opinions and the opinion
that they have of each other. Even when Beatrice and Benedick are in agreement with each other that is, that they are against marriage, they cannot help
but quarrel.
Benedick: God keep your ladyship in that mind so some gentlemen or other shall scape a predestinate scratched face
Beatrice: scratching could not make it worse and t'were such a face as yours.
This constant bickering between Beatrice and Benedick is a passion which their relationship is built upon, each are intuitive they echo the others
language. They are not wooing in the expected ways because their relationship is one of equals. This is in contrast to the way that Hero and Claudio
court; he cannot imagine Hero as a passionate and sexual being 'but as a brother to a sister showed bashful sincerity'.
The way in which the two couples communicate with each other gives the audience a useful insight into how well they know each other. Early on in
the play we realise Beatrice and Benedick have known each other for a while, 'I know you of old' says Beatrice, they

Compare And Contrast Marriage And Marriage
Do you know a couple that has been dating for years, but has never really taken the next step to becoming married? Many couples have settled with
just dating in today's world. This may be because they haven't become ready for that next stage in life. Maybe they know how different dating is
from being married, how big of a change it'll be for them. A lot of adults who have kids are not even married, this stems from generations of
non–marital relationships. As a result, their kids see no reason for marriage or they may think that marriage is a bad thing because they have been
scarred seeing that their parents have divorced. Both dating and being married have their positives as well as negatives.
Commitment to a marriage and in just dating is totally different. In a marriage, the commitment between the two people is supposed to be a lifelong
commitment, "till death do you part". It is also a very sacred form of commitment in that it shows your relationship with God as well as your family. If
you were to commit adultery, which means to cheat or lie on your partner, within your marriage it could cause not only legal problems but, far more
serious problems as well. On the contrary, dating is just the beginning stages. Although it is best to stay committed, it is not as big as a marriage. In a
regular relationship, a person can cheat and not be held accountable for their actions because it is not as serious as a marriage. Partners are still
technically allowed to do as

DATING IN VIET. AMER. CULTURE2
Abstract
This paper focuses on one of the prevalent aspects of the life–experience of young people in modern urban Vietnamese American culture. This includes
their courting practices, behavior, and attitudes within a theoretical context that emphasizes relationships, sexuality and social evolution in a
modernizing and continuously evolving society.
DATING IN VIET. AMER. CULTURE3
Dating in Vietnamese–American culture
With the decay of the arranged marriage tradition in Vietnamese culture, both males and females are left to seek out a suitable partner on their own.
However, given that the ideals and values of respect, family, and honor are still of major importance within the Vietnamese culture, proper etiquette
standards for courtship are assumed and practiced. (Nguyen, 2008). This is to help men and women find partners who also value respect, take pride in
strict virtues, and see the importance of family principles. These societal expectations within the American Vietnamese families run true to their roots
but have since developed a more modern attitude over the course of time.

How College Dating Has Changed My Life
College dating has changed a lot since my parents went to school. Courtship and chivalry are dead, or extremely hard to find, and a majority of
college students are involved in the 'hookup culture.' "A 'hookup' is a nonromantic encounter with a friend or acquaintance that involves an unspecified
degree of sexual interaction," (Carpenter and DeLamater 129). When I first started college, I had a very nice relationship that lasted about 3 months.
When we both decided to just be friends, it dawned on me that I could sleep with whomever I wanted to. During my second semester in college, I
more than doubled the amount of guys I slept with in high school and I know why I did it. I let myself engage in hookup culture because I wanted to
rebel against my parents, have some sense of intimacy without commitment, experience new things, and it was so much fun to brag about with my
girlfriends. However, after a while I began to miss what I had during my first semester, someone who actually cared about me and wanted to be with
me for more than just sex. I often hear numerous complaints in college about not being able to find a significant other. This new style ofdating, or
hookup culture, lacks a sense of respect and doesn't allow for an emotional closeness with those students find attractive. It encourages college students
to suppress their emotions in order to gain sexual intimacy and that wanting a committed relationship is a thing of the past. Why has courtship and

Critique Of Isang Tikbalang

The story "Isang Tikbalang Ka Lang". This was written by Eros Atalia and is about a tikbalang who fell in love with a human being that he
eventually courted. Even though tikbalang did everything he could to make the girl happy she eventually fell for a guy who is a rich duwende. The
story shows the two types of persons in this world: people who love for them to gain riches and the people who love because they see something very
beautiful in the personality of that person.
Tikbalang shows us the virtue of a typical man who falls in love. He's willing to do give anything to make the girl fall in love with him. The
tikbalang gave her countless gifts of fruits but the she wanted more than just fruits because she came from a poor family and she wanted money. In the
end, tikbalang's efforts were to no avail when the girl no longer visited him and eventually he received news that the girl married an old rich duwende.

Rhetorical Devices In The Coquette
Meghan Michalski 19 October 2017
"From a scene of constraint and confinement, ill–suited to my years and inclination, I have just launched into society. My heart beats high in
expectation of its fancied joys. My sanguine imagination paints, in alluring colors, the charms of youth and freedom, regulated by virtue and
innocence. Of these, I wish to partake. While I own myself under obligations for the esteem which you are pleased to profess for me, and in return,
acknowledge, that neither your person nor manners are disagreeable to me, I recoil at the thought of immediately forming a connection, which must
confine me to the duties of domestic life, and make me dependent for happiness, perhaps too, for subsistence, upon a class of people, who will claim
the right of scrutinizing every part of my conduct; and by censuring those foibles, which I am conscious of not having prudence to avoid, may render
me completely miserable" (Foster, 29).
Through rhetorical devices, dramatic language, and tone, Foster manipulates the readers perspectives and opinions of her characters and provides them
with the information to predict Eliza's inevitable demise before she knows it herself.
Eliza Wharton's yearning for freedom is a fundamental underlying theme to Foster's novel, "The Coquette". Eliza views freedom as the ability to
partake in the pleasures and joys of youth without the restrictions and obligations that come with a commitment to marriage. Furthermore, freedom is

Teen Dating Boundaries
If there are any gray areas when it comes to dating, the arena of how much physical touch is appropriate for dating would certainly be a frontrunner.
Certainly, there is a whole range of views from those who believe that there should be no form of intimate touching whatsoever before marriage to
those who believe that there are no such thing as physical boundaries in a dating relationship. Unfortunately it is all too clear that not having any
boundaries can be a very dangerous thing. One study on teen dating violence reported that one out of five adolescents experience physical violence and
one out of ten experience sexual violence (Wincentak, Connolly, and Card, "Teen Dating Violence."). Clearly there is wisdom in setting boundaries, but

The first lesson that we can learn is that sex before marriage is wrong. This is supported by a multitude of verses such as Hebrews 13:4 (NIV) which
says, "Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral." Sexual
immorality is obviously applicable in the context of marriage and Paul actually single out sexual immorality as completely different from all other sins,
so it is nothing that we should treat lightly. He says in 1 Corinthians 6:18–20, "Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside
the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body. Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you,

Toulmin Analysis of Attraction Essay
Toulmin Analysis of "Attraction"
In "The Mystery of Attraction," Harville Hendrix claims that attraction between human beings is based on a number of factors that ultimately leave
human beings baffled on exactly how humans experience such intense emotions as seen in romantic love and why so many couples tend to have
complementary characteristics. He supports this claim by explaining several theories of attraction. His biological theory of courtship states that "we
instinctively select mates who will enhance the survival of the species" (483). This theory suggests instinctive evolutionary attraction such as a female's

The backing for his warrants takes the form of a list which depicts ten main characteristics of a marriage. Most of the characteristics are based around
the subconscious mind of humans, placing much emphasis on the basic needs and desires of a person. The results of a poll are also included at the end
of the essay which reinforces the author's exchange theory.
As a qualifier, Hendrix states that "Although these three theories help explain some aspects of romantic love, we are still left with our original
questions" (484). He says that despite a plentitude of research, the answers remain a mystery.
Critique: I found this essay to be enlightening in several ways. Not only was the information presented in an organized way, but it was also very
interesting. I agree with the author's statements about the trials and tribulations of relationships, and I find myself agreeing most with his biological
theory of attraction. I especially liked the psychological direction of the essay, as it remained fairly objective and scientific while still presenting new
and different ideas as witnessed by his inclusion of historical facts with the addition of his own unique analysis and commentary

The appropriate age to start dating is always a debate. People have diverse views on the age which someone should date. Dating can be a magnificent
social experience, it can also be a negative social experience. A person needs to be mature enough to understand the feelings that go with dating a
significant other. Most importantly, the goal is to have fun, find a compatible mate, and keep the heart break to a minimum To begin, each generation
had an unlike view on dating and when to start dating. For example, Marcia Cullom a mother, grandmother, and a great grandmother states, "Things

A child's first heartbreak could be very scaring and emotional. When going through a heartbreak at an older age, it is known that they do not last
forever and the heart will be healed, but at a younger aged people believe that the hurt and pain is bottomless. Parents need to treat these
heartbreaking feelings seriously and be very sensitive when dealing with them. Moms and dads could do a number of things to help their child
through heartbreak. First, they could acknowledge that their child is in pain and they will be happy again. Second, they should let their child feel sad
and to cry about their break–up. Letting them express their feelings is very important because next time they will know it is okay to express their
feelings and they should not keep them bottled up. Third, the parent should encourage them to spend time with their friends, but not push them to
spend time with their friends. When the child is ready to socialize, they will without hesitation. Lastly, the parent should share a story about their young
dating experiences. Sharing these stories shows the child that everyone goes through it, and the heartbreak does not last forever. These helpful ideas

Geoff, . I’M Looking Forward To Meeting With You Tomorrow.

  • 1. Geoff, . I’M Looking Forward To Meeting With You Tomorrow. Geoff, I'm looking forward to meeting with you tomorrow. I wanted to use this email to clarify what I'd like to cover tomorrow. Last time we talked about marriage, I feel like the conclusion of the conversation was that I have the freedom to marry, and you gave me some passages in scripture to look at to start thinking about marriage. When I talked to you last Sunday, I told you that I want to get engaged to Katie and that we're both eager to get engaged. We're feeling pretty confident in our relationship but there are a few things that we would like to work on. We discussed getting engaged in February and getting married this summer. I want to get engaged in February and I don't want to wait but I still have reservation. My reservation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 5. Is sexual desire plating to big (or too small) a role in part of your decision? Sexual desire does not play too big of a role in our relationship, but I am sexually attracted to Katie. 6. Do you have a track record of solving problems biblically? We couldn't decide how to answer this question because we have not had any problems in our relationship yet. As far as individually, she said that one of her big problems is that she likes to hold problems in until she blows, and that she's kind of a people pleaser. I tend to be a little more abrasive with my problems, and I like to rip the wound open. We'll see how that works out. 7. We agreed that we are very much heading the same direction in life. We agree on having children, I'm not sure if we agree on Church involvement, and I'm not sure if we agree on missions, but I think that those can be continuing discussions. 8. We couldn't think of any cultural differences that we have. 9. Do either of you have any complicating entanglements from past marriages or relationships? We were sitting in my car discussing these questions after deciding that it was too brisk to go for a walk. An elephant was sitting on my chest as I tried to fill my lungs with air, I wasn't sure If I could get the words out. I decided to begin with the lesser of my two sins. I told Katie about the girl that I had made out with in a dark room when I was 13 or 14. I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Evolution Of Dating Research Paper Is dating a thing of the past? How comfortable would someone feel if he or she had to go on a date with the entire family of the person he or she was attracted to? Several decades ago dating was quite different from today; people rarely dated someone they would not consider marrying. Going out on a date was a big deal; generally people didn't go out on a date without meeting the entire family first and if the family didn't approve the dating was stopped before it even began. Nevertheless, if the family approved, then the dating became almost a ritualistic process in which several dates with the family would take place before the person could even be trusted to be alone with the perspective date. The dating of decades past was intended to lead into something serious with the idea that marriage would ultimately take place in the end; this being said, the dating process could sometimes take years. Dating has changed drastically today as compared to 20 years ago; control in a relationship is more of an issue and domestic violence is increasing. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Imagine dating that dream person during the 1950s, and 1960s––this would require a great deal of patience. The concept of dating, in those days, focused on the entire family and not just one person. They wanted the first impression on the family to be perfect. If the family didn't like you, you weren't getting close to their daughter. For example, it was expected for the young man to spend time with the family before going on a date with the young lady even then, they were not alone. Today, meeting parents or family isn't a major factor in dating anymore. It is very common that people will date multiple people and the family won't even know about it. The reason for dating has changed, back then it would lead to marriage and now this generation does it for pleasure and a good ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Paper Pills: The Cure for Doctor Reefy "Paper Pills" is a short story written by Sherwood Anderson in his most recognized book, Winesburg, Ohio, which has several interrelated stories (Belasco 859). The story is about an older physician, named Dr. Reefy, who is distanced from society, and only expresses his thoughts on pieces of paper, which he stuffs into his pockets (Bort). Eventually, he meets a younger woman who he marries and shares those crumbled pieces of paper with for a brief period before her death. The story is recounted by an unknown narrator, which is the same narrator throughout the book–using several instances of imagery and symbolism to describe Dr. Reefy's hands, truths, and his courtship and relationship with the younger woman. The description of Dr. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore, once the papers–or thoughts–become hard and overflowing in Doctor Reefy's pocket they become synonymous to the creation of a "pyramid of truth" (867). And once a "pyramid" is created, Doctor Reefy destroys it (867). The manner in which he destroys the "pyramid" is when he dumps the hardened paper balls out of his coat pocket on to the floor (867). Symbolism and imagery is also used to describe the relationship Doctor Reefy has with his only friend John Spaniard, "who owned a tree nursery" (867). The narrator says, "...in Doctor Reefy there were the seeds of something very fine," which the seeds could be interpreted as thoughts since Doctor Reefy's hands are described as "gnarled apples" (867). Furthermore, John's occupation could have deeper meaning, and be construed as John being a tree since he is called a "sentimentalist" by Doctor Reefy (857). And when he calls John a "sentimentalist" he means John has become someone who "lives his life by" a truth, and, therefore, a grotesque as described in the aforementioned story (862). Thus, when Doctor Reefy throws the hardened paper balls at John, and says, "'That is to confound you, you blithering old sentimentalist,'" he is trying to suggest John detach himself from whatever truth he has adopted. • 4. Social Rules For Dating The social rules for dating have drastically changed over the years. In today's society, dating has lost all of its' meaning and has been overruled by the term "hooking up". Social media and texting have taken over the means of communicating face to face and made our generation socially awkward. Since the arrival of new technologies and the changing definitions of traditional dating, "dating" has become a more loosely used term. According to "The History of Dating", between the timeframe of 1900 and 1910 was the start of the dating era. As mentioned in the History of Dating, men would address young women, who they were interested in, by stopping by their house for a visit. Change Of Heart: The Evolution Of Online Dating Change of Heart Although the practice of dating has transpired for innumerable years: the customs surrounding this pastime have evolved from courting to casual dating into the more prevalent online dating, thus revealing the many traditions that have been lost throughout time. Dating has evolved in many directions over the last several hundred years. Dating prior to the 20th century consisted of two people of opposite sexes finding out about the opposite person with the common goal of marriage. The man and woman typically grew up in the same area and the interactions took place primarily in the girl's home "under the watchful eye" of her mother and male siblings. Sex, which used to be a disdained practice before marriage, is now a more accepted interaction. The media has created the thought for young teens and adults that pureness is not that big of a deal. Young men and women now think that this great gift can be lost if it is lost for the sake of entertainment.(Sex and dating in the Christian life) With this in mind it has created what is now known as "friends with benefits." • 6. A Relationship Between Hero And Her Eventual Suitor In this passage, the reader is exposed to two distinct categories of relationships, one of which being the relationship between Hero and her eventual suitor which is a type of relationship borne out of necessity and social conformity. Both Anthony's and Leonato's statements in this passage support this traditional ideal of marriage and love by dictating to Hero her answer in regards to the impending proposal from whom Hero's family believes to be Don Pedro rather than granting her the power of choice. Anthony blatantly assumes that Hero will adhere to the course of action her father wishes saying, "Well, niece, I trust you will be ruled by your father" (2.1.42–43). If Hero is being "ruled" by the desires of her father, it makes her decision to say yes one of necessity in that she must give the answer of her father and not that in her own heart for fear of some sort of retribution. Leonato later reinforces this notion about relationships in stating, "Daughter remember what I told you. If the Prince do solicit you in that kind, you know your answer" (2.1.56–57). Alone this statement is somewhat vague leaving it available to some interpretation, one of which being that Leonato is reassuring Hero that she discovered the response that best fits her desires in a conversation held offstage and that she should not second guess herself. However, if this reminder is applied within the context of Anthony's previous statement it takes on a different meaning that reinforces this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Hiashi stared back at his daughter and saw the determination in her eyes. "Are you sure? You have not even heard, who the suitor is", Hiashi replied trying to hide a grin. He knew that his daughter was already in love with someone else from the academy. The suitor Hiashi has picked would be someone worthy of courting his daughter. "Y–Yes, father.", Hinata weakly retorted. Hiashi expecting the response began to hide a maliciously playful grin behind his mask. He summoned a branch family member. Hiashi began reaching for the arranged marriage contract and was very slowly attempting to hand it to the branch member while saying, "Tell Uzumaki–san that my daughter refuses". Hinata eyes widened and she suddenly came to the realization who her suitor was. Before, the branch family member could grab the contract, in a blur, she swiped the contract from her father's hand. "Hinata, I thought you decided that you did not want the suitor I proposed", Hiashi said while failing to hold back his laughter. Arranged marriage is when two families agree to marry their kids, usually without the child's consent. In the article "Arranged Marriage" by Sanjay Kali, it talks about the positive and negative things about arranged marriages. I strongly believe that arranged marriages are a negative idea since the majority of arranged marriages never end well. In arranged marriages there are many negative things. Such as making the decision to marry someone who you have only met, and is a complete stranger to you. Another negative thing is not knowing much about the person, such as what their dislikes and likes are. Sanjay Kali said "There is no work involved ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Sexual Deprivation Increases Ethanol Intake Yolande Megni APPL 601 Homework 2 Sexual Deprivation Increases Ethanol Intake in Drosophila G. Shohat–Ophir, K. R. Kaun, R. Azanchi, U. Heberlein There is scientific consensus today that addiction is a chronic disease that changes both brain structure and function, as abnormal functioning of the brain's reward system (the nucleus accumbens) has been associated with addictive behavior, originating either from a psychoactive drug, a monetary reward, a sexual encounter, or a satisfying meal. Drosophila melanogaster, a fruit fly was used in these experiments to further explain attraction for alcohol–containing foods, and the effect of social experiences on behavior. The researchers used two different sexual experiences to generate two cohorts of male flies. The first cohort, rejected–isolated, was subjected to courtship conditioning; they experienced 1–hour sessions of sexual rejection by mated females, three times a day, for 4 days. Such conditioning suppresses future male courtship behavior, even toward receptive virgin females. The second cohort of mated–grouped flies experienced 6–hour sessions of mating with multiple receptive virgin females at a ratio of 1:5 for 4 days. Flies from each cohort were then tested in a two–choice preference assay, in which they deliberately choose to consume food with or without 15% ethanol supplementation. There was a significant difference between the 2 cohorts of drosophila in different respects such as exposure to the social experience ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Female Characters Of The Play By William Shakespeare 's '... First impressions of any play or novel are largely gained from its title. In this case, the title also happens to be the concluding line of the play itself; " 'Tis Pity She's a Whore" suggests the play is based around a woman and her promiscuous actions. This instantly places women in a bad light before the play even commences suggesting that there was a woman in a shameful situation due to her 'whore' like actions towards men and how things could have been different if she did not allow her promiscuous side to take over control. This title makes women appear to be inferior to men as if this would not have happened to a man as they would never have found themselves in a situation such as this woman has found herself in. There are a vast variety of female characters in the play with many diverse personality types. Ford writes most of the female characters to be weak and inferior to men to fit with the Victorian audiences idea of how women were to be perceived – 'powerless and at the mercy of men'. There are also certain female characters such as Putana and Hippolita who appear to go against the stereotypical idea of how women should act and behave during the Victorian era, these characters would have been extremely shocking for a 19th century audience. At the end of the play all of the women die nasty deaths and in all situations are due to their actions that surround men. They all die or are murdered for different reasons but in all circumstances involve being misunderstood ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. Marriage And Arranged Marriages So this topic that I have been wanting to address for awhile. I was talking to a friend the other day about the whole dating aspect of BYU–Idaho as well as just in the Mormon community. Now my friend grew up outside of the church and so she has seen both the Mormon culture of dating as well as the way that the world does it. Now she pointed out to me something that I never really thought of before. She told me that it almost seems like we are so focused on the aspect of dating and getting married because in our culture that is something that we strongly believe in because of the covenants that we make with marriage. She said that we are in a sense having these arranged type of marriages, in the sense that everyone around us is telling us to date this person or that person or get married because it is a commandment and we are making these decisions not because we truly love this person or we even truly believe that we want to get married, or even fully understand the promises we will be making to that person and also to God. We aren't fully making this decision because we truly believe that it is a good choice but because others around us think so and to me that does seem a little bit like an arranged marriage. I'm not totally knocking arranged marriages because there are a lot of people out there who make them work, even more than people who choose the person that they marry. The only thing I disagree with arranged marriages is the fact that agency is taken out of marriage, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Wilde uses obvious situational and dramatic irony within the play to satirize his time period. According to Roger Sale in Being Ernest the title has a double meaning to it and is certainly another example of satire used by Wilde. With a comedic approach, Wilde ridicules the absurdities of the character's courtship rituals, their false faces, and their secrets. (Sale, 478) In the Victorian era, courtship rituals were slightly different from modern time courtships. It started with couples speaking first, going out together, and finally they would keep each other company after mutual attraction was confirmed. The character ... Lady Bracknell's harsh criticism and stubborn ways are customary of upper–class mothers in the era. Ironically enough, Algernon later develops a kind of forbidden love. The object of his affection is young and being taught to be unimaginative and serious. One thing that Jack and Algernon have in common is that they both have these false faces. Algernon's alter ego Bunbury is a version of himself used in the country but he uses Ernest to marry Cecily. The story deals with Ernest, this immorally imaginary man that both Cecily and Gwendolyn become engaged to, it exemplifies the irony within the name. Most of the irony comes from this character. One of Wilde's satiric targets is romantic and sentimental love, which he ridicules by having the women fall in love with a man because of his name rather than more personal attributes. Dating, courting, and other pre–marriage arrangements are practices that are influenced by the time period, social conditions and constructs, biology, cultural norms, and institutional structures that surround people. Dating has changed a lot in the past century. In the 1920's to 1940's, dating involved a more informal dating. For the first time there were no chaperones on dates between males and females. The dates required no formal commitment to each other and there was more freedom. Previously the community and church established the dating rules, but now peers institute the rules. To understand dating, courting, and other pre–marriage arrangements we must look at a particular time and place to understand the ways in which a society works and therefore how the people in that society go about activities like dating. In modern America, dating has emerged as an activity that is not often regulated by adults as it once had been. There are many explanations for this change including the change in lifestyle that industry and technological advances have brought about. Sociologists point out that the idea of romantic love did not even exist prior to the industrial revolution. Marriage was an institution that allowed a man and woman to enhance their chances of survival and quality of life with one another. Romantic love as we now know it did not exist as a concept. After the industrial revolution when people did not depend on each other as much to survive, the idea of romantic love first appeared. After this time some feminists and sociologists point out that marriage and motherhood was used to subjugate women to men and to keep them out of the work force. Dating at a young age is characterized as fun and is done for companionship rather than as a serious activity for the purpose of finding a lifelong mate. Group dating is a way in which students have been able to move away from traditional, two–person dating which implies intimacy to them. Doing things in groups saves ... Teenage Dating in the 1950s Essay examples Teenage Dating in the 1950s Teenagers in the 1950's are so iconic that, for some, they represent the last generation of innocence before it is "lost" in the sixties. When asked to imagine this lost group, images of bobbysoxers, letterman jackets, malt shops and sock hops come instantly to mind. Images like these are so classic, they, for a number of people, are "as American as apple pie." They are produced and perpetuated by the media, through films like Grease and Pleasantville and television shows like Happy Days, The Donna Reed Show, and Leave It to Beaver. Refreshments were often served (though not always), and the entertainment was primarily piano playing in the parlor. But because the lower classes were not so well–endowed so that they own pianos or even parlors, they started their own form of "courtship" which soon became known as dating. This practice was soon picked up by the upper classes, and from there it progressed into the middle class, with which it is still inherently associated today (Bailey 17). Calling and dating are so intrinsically different it is hard to imagine how the transition from one to another was even made. Firstly, calling was practiced with the intention of finding a suitable husband for a young lady; whereas, in dating, this was, and still is, not the primary goal. People date because it is "enjoyable, pleasant, and valuable" (Merrill 62), and they thought that they could gain rewarding experiences from it. In the fifties and surrounding decades, handbooks and other books exploring relationships described dating as a fun activity in which teens are allowed to meet and mingle with many members of the opposite sex. In Alfred Hitchcock's, "Rear Window" voyeurism is a major theme conveyed throughout the movie. J.B. Jefferies, Lisa, and Stella prove that human fascination with voyeurism is not only addicting, but over time becomes contagious and emotionally detrimental. In the beginning of the movie the audience is introduced to the main character, J.B. Jeffries. After an injury at work, Jefferies is stuck in his apartment with little to do. This is when the idea of voyeurism is first seen in the movie. According to Google Books, voyeurism is "the observation of another person doing a private act." J.B. spends his time looking out his window doing just that. He peers into his neighbors' apartments and watches as they live their everyday lives. He thinks he has each of his neighbors figured out just by watching them through their windows. By the middle of the movie Jefferies becomes so addicted to being a voyeur that he feels the need to be closer. He therefore achieves this need by using his camera lens and telescope to look closer into the other rooms. When this addiction of Jefferies first starts off, both Stella, his nurse, and Lisa, his girlfriend, did not approve. Shakespeare's drama "The Taming of the Shrew" is set in the Elizabethan era, and marriage and courtship was very different than how it is in the present. Back then it was the parents who picked suitors for their daughters. This choice would be final for the daughters but often women rebelled against the decision as they wanted to choose their own suitors. "Romeo and Juliet" is an example of this. Petruchio takes away the whole aspect of "falling in love" from Katherina as he forces her to marry him and her father happily abides, "will you, nill you, I will marry you". I agree when CoppГ©lia Kahn says "The overt force Petruchio wields over Kate by marrying her against her will in the first place, and then by denying her every wish and comfort, stamping, shouting, reducing her to exhaustion, etc., is but a farcical representation of the psychological realities of marriage..." as the audience would definitely find it funny and is a perfect example of Shakespeare's attempts to ridicule the sanctity of marriage. As Robert Heilman demonstrates, the taming is best viewed as farce which "carries out our desire to simplify life by a selective anesthetizing of the whole person; man retains all his energy yet never really gets hurt" and this is shown as the drama is a comedy of mocking the institution of marriage. Another negative outlook against marriage and courtship is when we find of Hortensio's plans to disguise himself as a "schoolmaster well seen in music to instruct Bianca". Lucentio also disguises himself by swapping clothes and identities with Tranio so that he may "woo" Bianca secretly. Arranged Marriage is perhaps one of the most shocking and stark affronts to western sensibilities. American minds, with their concepts of freedom and choice, would seem unable to grasp any benefit in a system which does not involve the complete free will and consent of both parties in a romantic relationship. The darkest images of arranged marriage paint in our minds the vision of two strangers meeting for the first time on their wedding day. Sometimes we envision children forced to wed each other, other times we picture the even more abhorrent idea of a wedding between a much older adult and an under aged child. News stories over the past few years have shown perhaps one of the most universally heart wrenching examples in the public's memory, the case of Pastor Warren Jeffs in his polygamous marriage, as well as sexual assault, of teenage and pre–teen girls (State v. Many couples have settled with just dating in today's world. This may be because they haven't become ready for that next stage in life. A lot of adults who have kids are not even married, this stems from generations of non–marital relationships. When I first started college, I had a very nice relationship that lasted about 3 months. When we both decided to just be friends, it dawned on me that I could sleep with whomever I wanted to. Even though tikbalang did everything he could to make the girl happy she eventually fell for a guy who is a rich duwende. Tikbalang shows us the virtue of a typical man who falls in love. He's willing to do give anything to make the girl fall in love with him. The tikbalang gave her countless gifts of fruits but the she wanted more than just fruits because she came from a poor family and she wanted money. • 39. Rhetorical Devices In The Coquette Meghan Michalski 19 October 2017 "From a scene of constraint and confinement, ill–suited to my years and inclination, I have just launched into society. My heart beats high in expectation of its fancied joys. My sanguine imagination paints, in alluring colors, the charms of youth and freedom, regulated by virtue and innocence. Of these, I wish to partake. While I own myself under obligations for the esteem which you are pleased to profess for me, and in return, acknowledge, that neither your person nor manners are disagreeable to me, I recoil at the thought of immediately forming a connection, which must confine me to the duties of domestic life, and make me dependent for happiness, perhaps too, for subsistence, upon a class of people, who will claim the right of scrutinizing every part of my conduct; and by censuring those foibles, which I am conscious of not having prudence to avoid, may render me completely miserable" (Foster, 29). Through rhetorical devices, dramatic language, and tone, Foster manipulates the readers perspectives and opinions of her characters and provides them with the information to predict Eliza's inevitable demise before she knows it herself. Eliza Wharton's yearning for freedom is a fundamental underlying theme to Foster's novel, "The Coquette". Eliza views freedom as the ability to partake in the pleasures and joys of youth without the restrictions and obligations that come with a commitment to marriage. Furthermore, freedom is the choice to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Teen Dating Boundaries If there are any gray areas when it comes to dating, the arena of how much physical touch is appropriate for dating would certainly be a frontrunner. Certainly, there is a whole range of views from those who believe that there should be no form of intimate touching whatsoever before marriage to those who believe that there are no such thing as physical boundaries in a dating relationship. Unfortunately it is all too clear that not having any boundaries can be a very dangerous thing. One study on teen dating violence reported that one out of five adolescents experience physical violence and one out of ten experience sexual violence (Wincentak, Connolly, and Card, "Teen Dating Violence."). Clearly there is wisdom in setting boundaries, but what boundaries should be set? And why?... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first lesson that we can learn is that sex before marriage is wrong. This is supported by a multitude of verses such as Hebrews 13:4 (NIV) which says, "Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral." Sexual immorality is obviously applicable in the context of marriage and Paul actually single out sexual immorality as completely different from all other sins, so it is nothing that we should treat lightly. He says in 1 Corinthians 6:18–20, "Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body. Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your ... • 41. Toulmin Analysis of Attraction Essay Toulmin Analysis of "Attraction" In "The Mystery of Attraction," Harville Hendrix claims that attraction between human beings is based on a number of factors that ultimately leave human beings baffled on exactly how humans experience such intense emotions as seen in romantic love and why so many couples tend to have complementary characteristics. He supports this claim by explaining several theories of attraction. His biological theory of courtship states that "we instinctively select mates who will enhance the survival of the species" (483). This theory suggests instinctive evolutionary attraction such as a female's rosy cheeks on a slender frame and a male's muscular physique ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The backing for his warrants takes the form of a list which depicts ten main characteristics of a marriage. Most of the characteristics are based around the subconscious mind of humans, placing much emphasis on the basic needs and desires of a person. The results of a poll are also included at the end of the essay which reinforces the author's exchange theory. As a qualifier, Hendrix states that "Although these three theories help explain some aspects of romantic love, we are still left with our original questions" (484). He says that despite a plentitude of research, the answers remain a mystery. Critique: I found this essay to be enlightening in several ways. Not only was the information presented in an organized way, but it was also very interesting. I agree with the author's statements about the trials and tribulations of relationships, and I find myself agreeing most with his biological theory of attraction. I especially liked the psychological direction of the essay, as it remained fairly objective and scientific while still presenting new and different ideas as witnessed by his inclusion of historical facts with the addition of his own unique analysis and commentary ... • 42. Dating Research The appropriate age to start dating is always a debate. People have diverse views on the age which someone should date. Dating can be a magnificent social experience, it can also be a negative social experience. A person needs to be mature enough to understand the feelings that go with dating a significant other. Most importantly, the goal is to have fun, find a compatible mate, and keep the heart break to a minimum To begin, each generation had an unlike view on dating and when to start dating. For example, Marcia Cullom a mother, grandmother, and a great grandmother states, "Things were different back when I started dating compared to how people date these days" (Cullom). When going through a heartbreak at an older age, it is known that they do not last forever and the heart will be healed, but at a younger aged people believe that the hurt and pain is bottomless. Parents need to treat these heartbreaking feelings seriously and be very sensitive when dealing with them. Moms and dads could do a number of things to help their child through heartbreak. First, they could acknowledge that their child is in pain and they will be happy again. Second, they should let their child feel sad and to cry about their break–up. Letting them express their feelings is very important because next time they will know it is okay to express their feelings and they should not keep them bottled up. Third, the parent should encourage them to spend time with their friends, but not push them to spend time with their friends. When the child is ready to socialize, they will without hesitation.
