The Poison Tree by Andres Medina
The Poison Tree by Andres Medina
The poison tree the author speaks about the containment of emotion. The author is angry at his friend
but forgives him so his anger ends."I was angry with my friend:I told my wrath, my wrath did end."
(Blake)."I was angry with my foe:I told it not, my wrath did grow."(Blake)The author gets angry
with his enemy but doesn't tell him so it doesn't end , and grows into a tree. The tree then produces a
fruit, "Till it bore an apple bright."(Blake)The enemy steals the apple, and eats it.The foe who ate
the apple lies died under the tree of poison "My foe outstretched beneath the tree." (Blake) .This
poem main theme is the containment of emotions.William Blake uses tone, metaphors, and other
literary devices to express the theme of emotions in his poem.
The tone of the poison tree switches from being able to forgive to anger."I was angry with my
friend:I told my wrath, my wrath did end."(Blake) He forgives his friend and the anger ends
immediately. Then he talks about his enemy "I was angry with my foe:I told it not, my wrath did
grow."(Blake) This shows that the tone has changed. The author was able to forgive his friend but
not his enemy. This leads to his anger to keep growing my wrath did grow."(Blake) This brings us
back on the theme of containment of emotions. The author has a change of tone we he speaks of his
foe.His foe is the reason of his anger. If the speaker would to talk to his foe it might just end.The

Turkey Research Paper
In this essay, I will be talking about a turkey for an animal and an apple tree for a plant. Turkeys and
apple trees are both Eukarya. Eukarya is a domain of organisms having cells each with a distinct
nucleus. Turkeys are apart of the Animalia Kingdom. The Animalia Kingdom includes organisms
such as fish, birds, mammals, and many more. Apple trees belong to the Plantae Kingdom. The
Plantae Kingdom is the source of food for all other living thing creatures present on Earth. The
Plantae Kingdom is key for our survival. Turkeys are part of the Chordate phylum. The Chordate
phylum includes all animals that possess a hollow nerve cord and a notochord. This is a flexible rod

They nest on the ground. They are the largest game birds found in this part of the world. They spend
most of their time finding food such as acorns, seeds, small insects and berries. Male turkeys weigh
about 18 pounds. Females are smaller. They weigh between 8 to 10 pounds. A male bird can stand 5
feet tall. Both male and female turkeys have a long neck, featherless blue head, spurred legs, and a
fan–shaped tail. Males have what is called red wattles on the throat. They also have a dark tuft
suspended from the breast, this is often called a "beard." Males can have a variety of colors on their
feathers such as red, green, copper, bronze and gold. Females usually have brown or gray feathers.
Turkeys usually eat fruits, nuts, and insects. Turkeys reproduce by sexual reproduction and lay eggs.
Turkeys may seem insignificant but they are apart of our food chain and without them our food
chain would go down hill. Apple trees are small trees that can reach 25 feet in height. The leaves are
oval. White five petaled blossoms are found on the tree in spring. The apples mature through the
summer and are ready to eat in the fall. Ripe apples range in color from green to yellow to a red or a
mixture of these

Individuality In The Giving Tree By Shel Silverstein
One similarity that subsists between humans and trees is that of their sense of individuality. In
diverse ways, each human and tree display their unique sense of character. No two trees display the
same characteristics, just as no two humans ever display the same personality. Both humans and
trees are a source of their roots. However, the branch of similarity between humans and trees doesn't
only extend between their source of individuality. Throughout the story The Giving Tree, written by
Shel Silverstein, both a human and a tree display similarity as they neglect the Categorical
Imperative devised by Immanuel Kant.
Within Kant's Groundwork of the Metaphysic of Morals, the Categorical Imperative states that
rational beings should "Act

Comparing Song Of Songs And Sappho's Love Poems
Both the Song of Songs and Sappho's love poems stem from the core concept of the overall intimacy
and indescribable nature of love. Both reach to describe love by comparing to the beauty of nature
and the underlying feelings presented by nature; however, the two differ in their specific context of
love. The Song of Songs covers what would be today called the "honeymoon phase" where the love
is sweet, perfect and what the world envisions, whereas Sappho takes the melancholic side of love,
focused on entrapment, and overall heartbreak. These differences create completely different stories
of love, one of life long happiness, and one of chasing love. The Song of Songs develops a theme of
love with its use of naturalistic comparisons. Throughout the song, both the bride and bridegroom ...

Allusions to the environment are also present in Sappho's love poems, in fact, using many of the
same comparisons used in the Song of Songs, seemingly for the same purpose; to paint a picture of
love. Under the surface though, Sappho is painting a beautiful picture of love to win over the help of
Aphrodite to help satisfy her need for a fulfilling love, as is a common theme in her poems. Present
in both Song of Songs and Sappho's love poems, is the comparison of the rushing feeling of love to
a stream of water, a protective, but fruitful apple tree, all placed within a pleasant garden. The
stream in the Song of Songs is "a spring shut up" (132), representing a love that wishes to flow/be
consummated, but ultimately cannot because of societal limitations, whereas

Fat: A Fictional Narrative Essay
Snow was blown bits of metal that would dot your face with blood if you rode your bike fast
enough. Rain became hard splats of gum and a breeze was something that could rip hair out of your
head. Sue Lynn had raced him down a hill so high it seemed to be a mountain. They called it Sack

Rockies where she grew up. As if you could compare them. One was stone teeth in the sky and the
other a mound of grass and gravel that blocked everything until you reached the top. One was
warmed with green and gold leaves of oak, the other blue and sterilized by cold. It was like running

Biblical Archetypes In A Separate Peace By John Knowles
In the book A Separate Peace by John Knowles there are several biblical archetypes. These biblical
archetypes give the reader an insight into the deeper meaning of the text. This adds a greater
significance to the story, and gives the reader a greater understanding. Some examples of these
biblical archetypes are the garden of Eden, baptism, and Judas and Jesus. The garden of Eden is a
paradise, in which there is the tree of the knowledge of good in evil. Adam and Eve both live in
Eden, and God tells them not to eat the apples that grow on the tree. In the beginning, Adam and
Eve are innocent, but Eve is persuaded to eat an apple form the tree by a serpent, and Eve convinces
Adam to eat the fruit too. This causes them both to gain knowledge and lose their innocence, this is
known as the fall of man. Next, baptism is a ritual of sprinkling water onto a person's forehead, or
immersing them in water. This is supposed to purify the person getting baptized. It is also used for
regeneration. Baptism's are also used to initiate or admit someone into a church. Finally, Judas was
one of the twelve disciples of Jesus, but he ended up betraying Jesus. While Jesus was pure and
innocent, Judas was immoral and not innocent, and betrayed someone who he pretended was his
friend. The connection between these stories and the book give the reader a better understanding of
the book. The biblical archetypes in A Separate Peace include the garden of Eden, baptism, and
Judas and Jesus.

Analysis Of Edgar Allen Poe And The Cask Of Amontillado
The famous author Austin O'Malley stated, "Revenge is often like biting a dog because the dog bit
you." O'Malley's point of view is seen in classic and modern literature about humanity. The Cask of
Amontillado, a classic short story by Edgar Allen Poe is about the narrator Montresor who is going
to get revenge on his 'friend' during a festival in Italy. Montresor uses his wit to lure Fortunato to his
awful demise. A Poison Tree, a classic poem by William Blake is based on a man who holds in all of
his anger to release on his foe. The narrator uses his pain and sorrow to finally attack his foe to his
death. Because of events of verbal irony and treachery, Poe and Blake use their narrators of The
Cask of Amontillado and A Poison Tree to reveal their enemies' disloyalty doesn't get a free pass;
rather betrayal can lead to thoughts and ideas of vengeance carefully planned out.
Blake and Poe use dramatic irony to convey that enemies oblivious of the truth are often put in peril.
In "The Cask of Amontillado", Montresor's 'friend' Fortunato constantly offends him, without
knowing the harm he is causing. He vows revenge against Fortunato to avenge himself, but makes it
clear that no one will know he is causing harm. He continually "smile[d] in his face, and he did not
perceive that my smile now was at the thought of his immolation." (Poe 5). Since Fortunato never
knew that he was causing harm, he kept making fun of Montresor without knowing Montresor's real
feelings. Ever since, Montresor has sworn vengeance, but Fortunato never knew of the plan.
Fortunato doesn't know his enemy is planning for harm to come to him later. Only Montresor is
aware of the fate of his old friend Fortunato. In "A Poison Tree", the speaker never expresses to his
friend that he was causing harm to him. Since there was no communication between the two, "I told
it [harm caused] not, my wrath did grow." (Blake 3–4). There was no way for him to let go of his
rage, so it grew and grew inside of him until it eventually burst. In the beginning, the narrator tells
his friend of the harm he has caused and ends his anger. Later his foe causes him harm, but he never
informs his foe. His anger keeps growing and growing inside of him, but his enemy is

What Does The Giving Tree Mean
The Giving Tree is a poem which entails various meanings and context. Many people dispute about
exactly what it signifies, however, one thing for certain is the demonstration of emotion. The tree's
devotion and affection for the boy. This poem portrays the selfless tree giving all she is able to, not
keeping score, or how the boy focuses more on want than need, and ultimately, how being there for
your loved one can lead to destruction or a long–lasting relationship.
No one could compare to the generosity shown by the tree; being able to give everything and not
asking for anything, but happiness, in return. On many occasions, the boy comes back and tell his
troubles to the tree. Subsequently, the tree volunteers to help assist the boy on every

The Boogey Man
It was 5:00 in the morning when Andre's boat was ready to go to from New York to California so

Apple Vs Orange Trees
Handfuls of differences come with caring for apple and orange trees, for both are unique species that
have totally different needs when it comes to growing them. To start off all different kinds of trees
grow better in different climates. The average apple tree is hardyer and can grow in the colder
climate with less humidity. However, the orange tree needs a relatively warm temperature year
round or it will die because the ground temperature is too cold for it to sustain life. Another issue
related to climate is pests and diseases, which has an ability to hinder a tree's growth or even kill it.
Since the orange trees live in such a warm environment most of the pest are out of the sun and the
diseases are carried off in the breezes there is

Shel Silverstein The Giving Tree Analysis
The gnarly brown obelisk with its wide spreading frail branches stands mute, gray and lifeless in a
quiet retreat. It's thick and dense branches and leaves, that once yielded a pleasant shade were
stripped off, leaving its limbs barren and jagged. As even the birds no longer favored the dry and
brittle tree for shelter, the weak tree, lonely and yearning for love, waits patiently for the boy to
return.
The Giving Tree is a children's picture book written and illustrated by Shel Silverstein. To recap this
book, a boy takes advantage of a pushover tree who does not have an opinion of her own to fill his
necessitous conditions The young boy first starts off by eating her apples and using her for shade
when he was tired. But as the boy grows older ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
"But the boy stayed away for a long time....and the tree was sad." The tree's happiness and bliss is
entirely depended on the boy. Although many are sad when they are not with someone they love, the
tree can't find her happiness without the boy and is portrayed to be lonely all throughout the book
without the boy. Another one of her weakness also starts to show as the story goes on. "And so the
boy climbed up the tree and gathered her apples and carried them away. And the tree was happy."
The tree cannot say reject the boy on his offers. She is willing to give everything she has for the boy.
"And so the boy cut down her trunk and made a boat and sailed away. And the tree was happy... but
not really." Although by the end of the story the tree is merely an old stump, the boy still asks the
tree for a quiet place to sit and rest. Some may portray the giving tree to be strong due to her strong
character, of giving something without expecting something in return. Although loving someone
unconditionally is important the tree doesn't learn to stop. The boy and tree have a similar
relationship as to a parent and its child. The difference between the two is that a parent knows when
it is enough. Parents set boundaries and rules for their child in order to be self–reliant later in life.
The tree, however, gave everything away freely developing a weak character in the boy

Who Is The Old Apple Tree In Purdy's Detail
Purdy's "Detail" delineates an old apple tree grown near a ruined stone house, with descriptive
details that capture the tree's symbolic meaning of nature's durability. This symbolism is exhibited in
the tree's endurance to the winter storm, its apple's durability, and its progress deprived of human
care. The apple tree endures the harsh upbringing of the winter storm, withstanding the harsh
elements of nature against its own nature roots. The polarization of the durability of artificial and
natural substances is expressed, as "in spite of hurricane winds," the apple tree still produced "little
golden bells" and are "perhaps none of the other" varieties of apples raised in a "civil" environment.
The speaker's notice of "how the apples clung"

Summary Of The Story Of The Three Little Pigs
In England, 1890 there was a tale named "The Story of the Three Little Pigs". In this tale, an old
sow sends her three little pigs into the world to seek their fortune. The pig's meet a man; he supplies
them with building materials such as: straws, sticks, and bricks. Each pig uses one of the materials
to build their house with. The first pig builds his house with straws and the second with sticks; only
to get devoured by a hungry wolf who "huffed and puffed" and blew their houses down. However,
the third pig who built his house with bricks survived the mischievous wolf. The wolf thought to
himself, "Well! If I can't get to him, then I'll have to find a way to bring him to me". So, the wolf
tried to lure the pig out of his home. He tried three various places the: turnip field, apple tree, and
fair. But, the pig outsmarted him by going one hour earlier. The wolf was angry and decided to
climb down the pig's chimney. Subsequently, the wolf was unaware of what the pig had in store for
him on the other side; a big pot of scorching water. The pig celebrated his victory by eating the wolf
for dinner. Throughout "The Story of the Three Little Pigs" the third little pig outwitted his brothers
by exemplifying astute qualities that allowed him to further his quest against the wolf. There was a
plethora of different events that showcased the third pig's intelligence. To name a few: building his
house with bricks, surviving the apple tree incident, the fair and cooking the wolf

Response Essay: The Giving Tree
There was a tree that really loved a little boy a lot. The boy also loved the tree. Every day the boy
would come and play with the tree. In this children's story, the main character is always taking from
this tree and never giving back. The giving tree is a story about greed.
The little boy in the story would always take from the tree and the tree would always give to him
without taking back. The kid in the story would take the fruit from the tree and rest in it's shade.
Every day he would make crowns out of her leaves. In the story, it says that every day that a little
boy would come up and play with leaves, eat fruit, and play hide and seek. He would make the tree
happy every day. While making the tree happy, he is also growing older.

The tree said to the boy, "Take my apples, Boy, and sell them in the city." When she told him this, he
gathered the apples and walked away for many years. By having the apples, he would be able to sell
them and get money. The only reason he came back was for the money. He didn't have an intention
to make the tree happy. All he has done is made himself happy while taking from the tree.
Even as the boy turned into an old man, he still wanted more from the tree. He came back and
needed a house. The tree told him to climb her branches and be happy. His reply was "I am too busy
to climb trees, I want a house to keep me warm, I want a wife and I want children, and so I need a
house. Can you give me a house?" The tree told him to take her branches a build a house out of
them. So he cut her down and left with the branches to build himself a house. He visited the tree to
get more from the tree. The boy always took from the tree, never returning favor.
During the whole story of The Giving Tree, the boy was avarice.
Avarice is an extreme want for more. For example he took her branches and apples to get money and
a house. All the boy ever wanted from the tree was more to try and make himself

Every single fall–either as September is saying goodbye, or as October is saying hello–my family

When a composition is written at the right time its words will be warm and sweet, just like warm
apple pie coming out of the oven. Once the climb is over and the reward has been reached, the essay
is finished. Once an essay is finished it's journey is not done. The essay, if written at the right time,
will provoke different branches of thought and feeling. These deeper feelings are like the leaves on
the tree. They will pull away from the branches, gracefully fall to the ground and feed the roots of
the tree. After the leaves fall, the vicious cycle will repeat. If the reader feels compelled to use the
information in some way it is like the branches and leaves growing on a tree. What determines if it
is the right time to write about a subject? If it is the right time the words will flow onto paper like
the juices of a ripe apple flowing into your mouth after you take a bite. The words will blend
together, telling a story and a message for the reader to take away. If it is truly the right time, then
the essay will take little time to write. However, if it is the wrong time to write, every word put on
the paper can feel like trying to run a marathon with a hundred pound bag of rocks: every step is
slow, stuttered and stilted. When it is the wrong time to write the essay, no matter how carefully

Most mythologies contain borrowed aspects from older accounts of the same stories. Myths serve to
answer the questions mankind was and is unable to answer simply. Because of the yearning for
knowledge mankind has always held, those who were looked towards for answers often had similar
explanations based on what they were once told. This sharing of information has given historians an
array of mythologies from across the world that can be placed on a semi–clear time line as they
adapted and parts changed to better suit a single cultures demands. These oral traditions, later to be

The similarities between the two myths lead to the conclusion that Heracles Eleventh Labor along
with the second portion of Genesis are not typical creation myths. The myth itself is not so much a
creation myth as it serves a greater purpose than to tell how the world and man came to exist. It's
purpose is to demonstrate being and the relationship man has with mortality and his surroundings.
Genesis and The Eleventh Labor both feature some very major aspects. Both involve the male
intelligent hero, innocent naïve female(s), and a serpent that complicates matters and dwells in the
forbidden apple tree. The most clear comparison comes from the garden itself. Genesis places
civilization to the east of the Garden of Eden, thus placing the garden itself in the west. The Garden
of Hesperides is described as being on Mount Atlas, "...where the panting chariot–horses of the Sun
complete their journey...", also placing the garden in the far west. In addition to the description the
Greek word Hespere means evening, when the sun sets in the west. Along with sharing a location,
the gardens both symbolize a paradise characterized by carelessness, happiness, and tranquility. The
Hesperides are easily thought of as guardians of the garden, but on closer evaluation they are simply
portrayed as virginal innocence that comes with living in a paradise as such. The apple tree of the

European Crab Apple Tree Research Paper
European Crab Apple: The native Crab Apple is occasional in southern Illinois, yet uncommon or
absent in the central and northern sections of the state . Habitats include open woodlands, savannas,
and thickets. Crab Apple's can be found in both upland and bottomland areas where other deciduous
shrubs and trees are present, particularly where there has been some reduction in the overhead
canopy of dominant trees. The apple will fall from the tree and decompose on the ground leaving the
seed. The seed will work its way down into the soil below it. The seed will need water to help it
grow. Over time, the seed will grow into a plant which will eventually grow into a tree! The apple

Each medium–green leaf is deeply cut with five–pointed lobes. As the trade name suggests, the
foliage turns into an autumn blaze of orange–red to scarlet–red fall color. Flowers and fruit for this
hybrid are very sparse. Maple trees produce copious amounts of pollen, an essential component of
the continued existence of honey bees. The bees depend largely on this pollen. In addition to
supporting honey bees, maple trees also support pancake lovers across the continent. The ratio of
sap to syrup is rather surprising; sometimes, it can take up to 30 gallons of sap to produce only 1
gallon of syrup. The sugary sap is also used to produce maple taffy, maple cream, and maple sugar.
The biggest issue for maples is spacing. Fortunately, these trees are not as picky about sunlight and
can successfully grow in both sunny and shady spots. Partial shade may be preferable to full sun or
full shade, however. They need a thorough soaking as soon as the soil starts going dry. Fertilizer is
not a necessity for maple trees. Applying a layer of compost as mulch can add nutrients to the soil,
but these maples are not particularly

Literary Devices In Neglect By R. T. Smith
Neglect: to fail to care for properly. This one word can give one feelings of despair, wretchedness,
desolation, and even more. What a perfect word to describe the destruction of something loved most
dearly. R.T. Smith is an award–winning poet, author, and editor. In Smith's "Neglect", a man is
sharing his sorrows with the reader because of the death of his beloved Red Delicious apple tree.
Throughout this poem, the author is attempting to explain his emotions of regret and sorrow by
using different literary devices such as imagery and metaphors to compare the death of his apple tree
to the death of a family member or close friend. Towards the beginning of the poem, the speaker
uses imagery when he says, "Is the scent of apple boughs smoking in the woodstove ... Show more

The speaker knows that the smoke from the burning applewood and the red apples from the tree are
all he has left to remember of it. In the sentence "...and Red Delicious apples redder/ than a passing

crest and cinders from the woodstove, therefore using a metaphor to describe his feeling of loss. He
won't ever get to see the bring red apples from his own apple tree, so he's lamenting the fact that the
last few are all that he has left. Overall, this poem could have several different meanings. However,
the speaker seems to be despairing over the loss of his red apple tree, and because of the little
metaphors placed carefully throughout the poem, I feel that he is comparing the emotions of a
human death to this death. This poem just goes to prove that very different circumstances can lead to
the same types of emotions. In a poem like this, where we know nothing but the event that took
place, it allows us to interpret the words in our own ways, allowing room for anything to happen.

Creative Writing On Homelessness
I walk along the bumpy sidewalk as I begin the daily search for food. This morning, like all others I
can remember, I woke to darkness, crawled from the hill, and made the usual trek to this harsh, gray
strip. Everyday, I have to forage for food for the colony. I don't complain, though. Life could be
worse. One day, I was scavenging by a red flower bush when a terrible shadow came over me and a
massive, white object came down and crushed two legs of one of my co–workers. The white object
continued down the sidewalk, alternating with another. They were attached to the bottom of one of
the tan beasts we call "hoarders". I had to help my co–worker back to the hill and then we had to

right and head towards my commander. When I reach the spherical chamber with many tunnels
leading from it, I go towards that of the food commander. He tells workers where to go to find food
and makes sure that the food goes where it should when it arrives. When I enter his chamber, I see
him conversing with another worker who soon curries away. I walk up to the commander and click
my pincers in such a way to tell him of the location of the apples. He tells me he understands before

Research Paper On The Giving Tree
Who does everything for you? Who provides for you? Your mom right? Your mom does things and
probably will sacrifice anything she needs to just to make you happy.
In "The Giving Tree" the tree acts like a mother to the boy. She plays with him, and she lets him eat
her apples. The boy swings on her branches and they would play hide and go seek. This gives an
example of a mother and her child because when you're a mother you play with your child and you
want to make them happy.
Time passes and the boy hasn't come to see the tree in a while so the tree is upset. He got older and
when kids get older they tend to want to go out more and want to spend time with their friends and

Symbolism Of Trees In Speak By Laurie Halse Anderson
Throughout the novel, Speak, by Laurie Halse Anderson, there are many examples of symbolism.
The one symbol that certainly stands out the most is trees. Trees appear more than once in the novel.
First, there is the object she drew for her art project. The trees she tried to create in her art class
create a lot of symbolism. Publishers Weekly states that after Melinda's trauma she is barely able to
speak, but "only through her work in art class, and with the support of a compassionate teacher
there, does she begin to reach out to others and eventually find her voice" (para. 1). There is also the
apple that Melinda cuts open in her biology class. Lastly, there was the dying tree in her parent's

When Melinda draws the word tree she says "Tree? It's too easy" (Anderson, p.12). Melinda thought
that making an art project of a tree that had emotion would be easy. She came to find out that it was
harder than she had expected. After a week of trying to create her tree out of watercolors, Melinda
creates trees that have been hit by lightning. She tries to "paint them so they are nearly dead, but not
totally" (Anderson, pp.30–31). This statement reflects how Melinda feels towards life. After she was
raped, she felt as if she was dead. She had no one to confide in and all her friends, and even people
who were not her friends, were angry with her for calling the cops. She did not have the courage to
tell them the reason she called the cops, because she feared they would no longer think of her the

completely dead, but was not living her life to the fullest either. The trees she painted with

no known religious intention. It was first published in 1964 by Harper & Row and was written and

connection with Playboy and his lack of patience around families. Despite this, Silverstein sold
more than ten million copies of The Giving Tree, as it still remains a classic picture book. It has a

The apple leaving the tree's branches shows a foreshowing of the sacrifice the tree will give. The
boy is looking up at the tree, smiling in anticipation for what is about to come down. Apples and
trees are constant symbols in The Bible. There are a few tufts of grass growing around the bottom of
the tree and initials that are carved by the boy. These two things never go away, even when just a
stump is left. The ever–budding grass and the permanent letters can be seen as a love that never dies
for the boy even when the tree is stripped of life. Psalm 1:3 states " He will be like a tree firmly
planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in its season and its leaf does not wither" (Holy
Bible: King James Version). This quote from The Bible shows that Jesus Christ is compared to a tree
and will always flourish and be willing to give fruit if possible. The tree that is the main character in

Comparing Faulkner's The Sound And The Fury
Random insignificant detail or symbolic motif? Often times in William Faulkner's The Sound and
the Fury, the two are difficult to distinguish. However, when one takes a closer look outside Caddy's
and/or Quinton's window, the fruit tree that "grew near to the house" reveals itself to be more
significant than just another aspect of the setting. The tree symbolizes the growth of the Compson
family, but is also, at least in part, ironically responsible for the destruction of the Compson name. It
has religious and historical significance, and without it, the story could not have began or ended as it
did. The tree, which has stood next to the Compson house for generations, is central to to the
unethical behaviors of the two main female characters ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Is the fact that this convenience lead both to loose their innocence also a coincidence? Did Faulkner
just forget what kind of fruit grew on his tree when speaking of it in relation to each women? Is it
too much of a stretch to connect the fruits to their corresponding religious relevance? The evidence
is there to argue that the answer to all of these questions is no. But one cannot know with complete
certainty without input from the author, which thankfully, exists, "[The Sound and the Fury] began
with the–the picture of the–the little girl's muddy drawers, climbing that tree to look in the parlor
window with her brothers that didn't have the courage to climb the tree waiting to see what she saw."
Faulkner went on to say that "perhaps the only thing in literature which would ever move me very
much: Caddy climbing the pear tree." Knowing that the image of the tree, in particular when Caddy
climbed it, captured and inspired Falkner, tells the audience to take a closer look at the significance
of the tree in relation to Cady, and to the story as a whole. In the above quote, Faulkner specifically
calls it a pear tree, which indicates that the pear is the more important symbol than the apple, or he
would have called it an apple tree. This fits, because ultimately, it is the women's sexual activity, for
which the pear is a symbol of, that brings the family name

What Does A Poison Tree Mean
William Blake, born on November 28, 1757 in London, United Kingdom, wrote "A Poison Tree" to
explain to everyone the wrong doings of the Church by teaching people to suppress their anger and
the "evil" within them as that will only enhance their resentment furthermore. Inspired by his
religion, "A Poison Tree" was written as an attempt to inform people about the problems that are
created when one does not address the issue or their anger when it is still minor and resolvable.
When grudges are kept unresolved, the person and the people around them are negatively impacted
by the consequences of the grudge. He wanted to teach people that holding grudges hinders personal

The author 'finding' his enemy underneath his tree means that he wasn't in control of what he was
doing when he had killed or hurt his enemy, proving Blake's point that suppressing rage can cause
people to do things that they would not usually do. The imagery in the poem allows the reader to
better comprehend the significance and meaning behind Blake's words.
In addition to imagery, Blake incorporates symbolism in his poem numerous times to emphasize that
the suppressing of anger will cause it to grow eventually and later, cause an eruption with all of the
animosity within. The title symbolizes how rage and the evil within a person can develop further just
like a tree when it is given the proper conditions. The audience can assume that the "tree" in the
poem symbolizes the anger of the speaker as the poem explains how hard the speaker works to keep
the anger from showing, but that just makes it easier for his true feelings to reveal as the size of his
anger was too much for him to bare. The growth of the tree increases to the extent of it actually
"bore[ing] an apple" (Blake). Blake was specific to choose an apple tree because the tree alludes to
the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Bad in the Bible. Although, it isn't specified that the tree is an
apple tree, traditionally it is assumed that it is. In the Bible, the story of the forbidden apple relates

Personal Narrative Essay : My Mother's Apple Tree
I saw the tree as I rounded the corner of the street, my mother's apple tree, with its boughs stooping
low and leaves twirling in the light autumn breeze. It was shorter than I remembered, its branches no
longer reached towards the stars, nor did its roots stretch beyond horizons. Instead it was like any
other old tree, confined to the tiny front yard of my mother's antiquated Victorian cottage, trapped
between the cobbled footpath and the peeling picket fences.
Once upon a time a swing swayed from its branches, I remember painting the seat green in spring
and red in autumn, to match the apples. In those years long gone, my mother and I would drag out
that rickety stool and take turns picking the delicious fruits, scrambling to savour their sweetness
before the birds got ahead. Yet I don't quite remember which year it was the tree stopped flowering –
ten or fifteen years ago? Perhaps even longer than that.
Now, with its barren branches overhanging at peculiar angles, it looked as though it could no longer
bear its own weight. Now, without its luscious green foliage and abounding fruit, it had no more to
give.
Shame my mother would never let me cut it down.
Emptying her letterbox on my way to the front door, I tossed out the stack of obnoxiously colourful
advertisements and open the only piece of official correspondence. Another invitation, this time
requesting Professor Silverstein's presence at the International Conference on Psychology and

Essay about Neglect Poem Analysis
Feelings of "Neglect"
"Neglect" by R.T Smith explains the feelings of neglect by using imagery, metaphor, and
connotation. This poem talks about a path of neglect that a man followed that led to the destruction
of his red apple tree. The narrator put too much of his time and attention on his other marvels to not
put it into the apple tree as well. Therefore his red apple tree, though thought to be inevitable, died
and filled the narrator with regret. A regret that appears to haunt the author, and fills him with
sorrow. One of the literacy devices used in "Neglect" is imagery. Towards the beginning of the
poem, the author uses it in the following quote, " skew the sap's / passage, blacken leaves, dry the
bark and heart" (lines 5–6). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A second example of a metaphor is found when the author writes, "Smoke is all, ... ,/ I've been given
to remember" (21–22). This is an example of a metaphor because it is comparing the "smoke" to
death and how he was too blinded by the other blessings he had received, and now regrets it. It
connects with the meaning of the poem because it shows how if something is neglected too much, it
will eventually disappear and come back to haunt the neglecter, and the only memories that will be
left to remember it by is the "smoke" that it leaves behind. The third literacy device that was found
throughout the poem is connotation, which the author uses frequently in the poem. The first quote is,
"Is the scent of apple boughs smoking in the woodstove what I will remember..." (1–4). The word
"smoke" in this poem is a connotation because it carries a meaning of sadness and death. In every
quote the author has it in it brings a feeling of sadness and how he was too blind to see that death
was on the verge for his loved apple tree. It connects with the poem with its ability to change the
mood from what seemed to be the author becoming happier, back to the depressing tone that was
throughout the poem. It kept reminding the reader of the fateful death that the tree went through and
the author's sadness. The second connotation is later in the same sentence, "... of the Red Delicious I
brought down..." (1–4). The phrase "Red Delicious" is said twice

How Does The Poison Tree Rhyme Scheme
The poem is metaphorical in nature. The title 'poison tree' is a metaphor used to describe anger
which is a harmful emotion, likened to poison. The apple fruit, borne from the watered poison tree,
depicts revenge. Once the poison tree was all grown it bore the apple fruit which was an evil plan of
vengeance. The writer also uses a regular rhyme scheme in the poem to create rhythm. The rhyme
scheme is such that the last words in every two lines in each stanza sound the same. For example, in
the first stanza, the words 'friend' and 'end', 'foe' and 'grow'. In the second stanza: 'fears' and 'tears',
'smiles' and 'wiles'. In the third stanza: 'night' and 'bright', 'shine' and 'mine'. In the last verse: 'stole'
and 'pole', 'see' and 'tree'. Symbolism

A Poison Tree Figurative Language Essay
Mark Twain once said, "anger is an acid that can do more harm to the vessel in which it is stored to
anything on which it is poured." What he was saying is that anger harms the person holding it in
more than it would if the anger was acknowledged. Mark Twain was not the only person to
understand this concept. Through figurative language, diction, and structure, William Blake's "A
Poison Tree" demonstrates how bottled anger creates bitterness.
Blake uses figurative language to illustrate how anger, when kept inside, creates bitterness within a
person. In the poem Blake specifically uses metaphors to illustrate his point, therefore Blake utilizes
the growth of an apple tree, in line ten of the poem he says, "And it grew both day and night./Till ...

More specifically Blake uses the title, which is "A Poison Tree," to further present his theme. In the
poem his foe became dead to the speaker because of an apple from the tree. Bitterness is poisonous
and in the poem it is because of his bottled anger that the "tree" grew therefore by titling the poem
"A Poison Tree" Blake is suggesting that bitterness grows out of bottled anger. The title is also taken
as a reference to the biblical story of Adam and Eve. In Genesis it says that Eve ate from the
forbidden tree and Adam and Eve were separated from the garden of eden. Similarly when the
speakers foe 'ate' the apple from the tree, his foe was dead to him. In addition to using the title,
Blake also uses the movement of the poem. In the first 2 lines of the poem the speaker tells his anger
and the problem is resolved, but as the speaker does not resolve his anger it just keeps growing
eventually into bitterness. In the poem when the speaker tells his anger that part of the poem ends
quickly with only two lines before shifting over to the opposite. Therefore when he does not tell his
anger the poem gets longer and longer representing how anger keeps growing into bitterness when
not acknowledged. It is shown throughout the structure of the poem that bottled anger creates

Literary Analysis Of After Apple-Picking By Robert Frost
From "After Apple–Picking" by Robert Frost Lines 1–8
"My long two–pointed ladder's sticking through a tree

And there's a barrel that I didn't fill
Beside it, and there may be two or three
Apples I didn't pick upon some bough.
But I am done with apple–picking now.
Essence of winter sleep is on the night,
The scent of apples: I am drowsing off." In the selected lines from Robert Frost's "After Apple–
Picking," Frost creates the setting for the poem through time indicators, while also relaying the idea
that this is not simply a poem about only apple picking, but it is metaphor about life and death where
"apple picking" means collecting and life experiences. Line one states "My long two–pointed

The barrel that is not filled represents the capacity to do things before an end of some kind, and the
space that could occupy the barrel is empty. In other words, the empty barrel represents missed
opportunity: in the case of apple picking, it could be filled with apples, but is not at the end of the
day. When this concept is related the life itself, it means that ones life could be filled with memories
or life experiences, but at the end, they have not occurred. Then Frost tells us, "Beside it, and there
may be two or three– Apples I didn't pick upon some bough"(4–5). With these lines we get more
information relating to the "barrel that is not filled," which says that there is apples to be picked to
fill the barrel but the narrator does not pick them. With the analogy relating the missed apple to
missed life experiences, it can be inferred that there are two or three life experiences that have or
will be missed. The word "bough"(5) literally means the main branch of a tree. The missed apples
while apple picking were not missed because they were on a small limb; they were missed
seemingly on purpose, because if they were on a small hidden limb it would be understandable if
they were missed on accident. This tells us that the theoretical life experiences, represented as
apples, were not small in nature but large. This is a representation of Frost's feelings toward the
ending of life before one is done experiencing normal life steps.

What Does The Poison Tree Represent
A symbol is a person, a place, a creature, an article, or an occasion inside of a bit of composing that
exists on a literal level additionally alludes to something on a figurative level. In relationship with
William Blake's the poison tree, the idea of a tree that is toxic take us back to the Tree of Knowledge
of good and evil from the book of Genesis. Likewise the title of this poem represents its central
symbol. That the speaker sustains his anger against a foe, and it develops into a tree bearing
poisonous fruit. typically, Poison reveals death, malicious; it is normally given to somebody with a
specific end goal to murder them. Tree reveals growth, nature, or an image of rot. Evil is being
embodied on a tree.

The paper, Induction of Decision Trees, briefly discusses the history of machine learning algorithms,
the decision tree family of algorithms and their various use cases before giving an in depth
explanation of the ID3 algorithm. This essay focuses on a couple of central ideas behind induction
on decision trees. The first section will contain general background information and context leading
up to the creation of decision trees. Once the context is established, there will be a quick
introduction into the ID3 algorithm. This will be followed by a more rigorous discussion of the
concepts of shannon's entropy and information gain. Following the discussion on entropy there will
be a quick overview on the proposed methods of handling noisy data. The last section will contain a
critique of the paper.
The field of artificial intelligence gained in popularity during the twentieth century, accompanying
the rise in ubiquity of computers. During this time, the main goal of research was to use computers
to solve problems in an intelligent manner. In other words, researchers sought to develop algorithms
that learn how to solve problems. Quinlan mentions that one group of researchers focused on
creating programs that learn through a feedback cycle of self–testing and "adjusting internal
parameters." A good example of this would be a program written to play checkers against itself
many thousands of times. Each time a sequences of moves produces a winning result, that sequence
is given a

  • 1. The Poison Tree by Andres Medina The Poison Tree by Andres Medina The poison tree the author speaks about the containment of emotion. The author is angry at his friend but forgives him so his anger ends."I was angry with my friend:I told my wrath, my wrath did end." (Blake)."I was angry with my foe:I told it not, my wrath did grow."(Blake)The author gets angry with his enemy but doesn't tell him so it doesn't end , and grows into a tree. The tree then produces a fruit, "Till it bore an apple bright."(Blake)The enemy steals the apple, and eats it.The foe who ate the apple lies died under the tree of poison "My foe outstretched beneath the tree." (Blake) .This poem main theme is the containment of emotions.William Blake uses tone, metaphors, and other literary devices to express the theme of emotions in his poem. The tone of the poison tree switches from being able to forgive to anger."I was angry with my friend:I told my wrath, my wrath did end."(Blake) He forgives his friend and the anger ends immediately. Then he talks about his enemy "I was angry with my foe:I told it not, my wrath did grow."(Blake) This shows that the tone has changed. The author was able to forgive his friend but not his enemy. This leads to his anger to keep growing my wrath did grow."(Blake) This brings us back on the theme of containment of emotions. The author has a change of tone we he speaks of his foe.His foe is the reason of his anger. If the speaker would to talk to his foe it might just end.The containment of emotion ... The Animalia Kingdom includes organisms such as fish, birds, mammals, and many more. Apple trees belong to the Plantae Kingdom. The Plantae Kingdom is the source of food for all other living thing creatures present on Earth. The Plantae Kingdom is key for our survival. Turkeys are part of the Chordate phylum. A male bird can stand 5 feet tall. Both male and female turkeys have a long neck, featherless blue head, spurred legs, and a fan–shaped tail. Males have what is called red wattles on the throat. They also have a dark tuft suspended from the breast, this is often called a "beard." Males can have a variety of colors on their feathers such as red, green, copper, bronze and gold. Females usually have brown or gray feathers. Turkeys usually eat fruits, nuts, and insects. Turkeys reproduce by sexual reproduction and lay eggs. Turkeys may seem insignificant but they are apart of our food chain and without them our food chain would go down hill. Apple trees are small trees that can reach 25 feet in height. The leaves are oval. White five petaled blossoms are found on the tree in spring. The apples mature through the summer and are ready to eat in the fall. • 5. Individuality In The Giving Tree By Shel Silverstein One similarity that subsists between humans and trees is that of their sense of individuality. In diverse ways, each human and tree display their unique sense of character. No two trees display the same characteristics, just as no two humans ever display the same personality. Both humans and trees are a source of their roots. However, the branch of similarity between humans and trees doesn't only extend between their source of individuality. Throughout the story The Giving Tree, written by Shel Silverstein, both a human and a tree display similarity as they neglect the Categorical Imperative devised by Immanuel Kant. Within Kant's Groundwork of the Metaphysic of Morals, the Categorical Imperative states that rational beings should "Act ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Comparing Song Of Songs And Sappho's Love Poems Both the Song of Songs and Sappho's love poems stem from the core concept of the overall intimacy and indescribable nature of love. Both reach to describe love by comparing to the beauty of nature and the underlying feelings presented by nature; however, the two differ in their specific context of love. The Song of Songs covers what would be today called the "honeymoon phase" where the love is sweet, perfect and what the world envisions, whereas Sappho takes the melancholic side of love, focused on entrapment, and overall heartbreak. These differences create completely different stories of love, one of life long happiness, and one of chasing love. The Song of Songs develops a theme of love with its use of naturalistic comparisons. Throughout the song, both the bride and bridegroom ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Allusions to the environment are also present in Sappho's love poems, in fact, using many of the same comparisons used in the Song of Songs, seemingly for the same purpose; to paint a picture of love. Under the surface though, Sappho is painting a beautiful picture of love to win over the help of Aphrodite to help satisfy her need for a fulfilling love, as is a common theme in her poems. Present in both Song of Songs and Sappho's love poems, is the comparison of the rushing feeling of love to a stream of water, a protective, but fruitful apple tree, all placed within a pleasant garden. The stream in the Song of Songs is "a spring shut up" (132), representing a love that wishes to flow/be consummated, but ultimately cannot because of societal limitations, whereas ... • 16. Biblical Archetypes In A Separate Peace By John Knowles In the book A Separate Peace by John Knowles there are several biblical archetypes. These biblical archetypes give the reader an insight into the deeper meaning of the text. This adds a greater significance to the story, and gives the reader a greater understanding. Some examples of these biblical archetypes are the garden of Eden, baptism, and Judas and Jesus. The garden of Eden is a paradise, in which there is the tree of the knowledge of good in evil. Adam and Eve both live in Eden, and God tells them not to eat the apples that grow on the tree. In the beginning, Adam and Eve are innocent, but Eve is persuaded to eat an apple form the tree by a serpent, and Eve convinces Adam to eat the fruit too. This causes them both to gain knowledge and lose their innocence, this is known as the fall of man. Next, baptism is a ritual of sprinkling water onto a person's forehead, or immersing them in water. This is supposed to purify the person getting baptized. It is also used for regeneration. Baptism's are also used to initiate or admit someone into a church. Finally, Judas was one of the twelve disciples of Jesus, but he ended up betraying Jesus. While Jesus was pure and innocent, Judas was immoral and not innocent, and betrayed someone who he pretended was his friend. The connection between these stories and the book give the reader a better understanding of the book. • 18. Analysis Of Edgar Allen Poe And The Cask Of Amontillado The famous author Austin O'Malley stated, "Revenge is often like biting a dog because the dog bit you." O'Malley's point of view is seen in classic and modern literature about humanity. The Cask of Amontillado, a classic short story by Edgar Allen Poe is about the narrator Montresor who is going to get revenge on his 'friend' during a festival in Italy. Montresor uses his wit to lure Fortunato to his awful demise. A Poison Tree, a classic poem by William Blake is based on a man who holds in all of his anger to release on his foe. The narrator uses his pain and sorrow to finally attack his foe to his death. Because of events of verbal irony and treachery, Poe and Blake use their narrators of The Cask of Amontillado and A Poison Tree to reveal their enemies' disloyalty doesn't get a free pass; rather betrayal can lead to thoughts and ideas of vengeance carefully planned out. Blake and Poe use dramatic irony to convey that enemies oblivious of the truth are often put in peril. In "The Cask of Amontillado", Montresor's 'friend' Fortunato constantly offends him, without knowing the harm he is causing. He vows revenge against Fortunato to avenge himself, but makes it clear that no one will know he is causing harm. He continually "smile[d] in his face, and he did not perceive that my smile now was at the thought of his immolation." (Poe 5). Since Fortunato never knew that he was causing harm, he kept making fun of Montresor without knowing Montresor's real feelings. Ever since, Montresor has sworn vengeance, but Fortunato never knew of the plan. Fortunato doesn't know his enemy is planning for harm to come to him later. Only Montresor is aware of the fate of his old friend Fortunato. In "A Poison Tree", the speaker never expresses to his friend that he was causing harm to him. Since there was no communication between the two, "I told it [harm caused] not, my wrath did grow." (Blake 3–4). There was no way for him to let go of his rage, so it grew and grew inside of him until it eventually burst. In the beginning, the narrator tells his friend of the harm he has caused and ends his anger. Later his foe causes him harm, but he never informs his foe. To start off all different kinds of trees grow better in different climates. The average apple tree is hardyer and can grow in the colder climate with less humidity. However, the orange tree needs a relatively warm temperature year round or it will die because the ground temperature is too cold for it to sustain life. Another issue related to climate is pests and diseases, which has an ability to hinder a tree's growth or even kill it. It's thick and dense branches and leaves, that once yielded a pleasant shade were stripped off, leaving its limbs barren and jagged. As even the birds no longer favored the dry and brittle tree for shelter, the weak tree, lonely and yearning for love, waits patiently for the boy to return. The Giving Tree is a children's picture book written and illustrated by Shel Silverstein. To recap this book, a boy takes advantage of a pushover tree who does not have an opinion of her own to fill his necessitous conditions The young boy first starts off by eating her apples and using her for shade when he was tired. But as the boy grows older ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... "But the boy stayed away for a long time....and the tree was sad." The tree's happiness and bliss is entirely depended on the boy. Although many are sad when they are not with someone they love, the tree can't find her happiness without the boy and is portrayed to be lonely all throughout the book without the boy. Another one of her weakness also starts to show as the story goes on. "And so the boy climbed up the tree and gathered her apples and carried them away. And the tree was happy." The tree cannot say reject the boy on his offers. She is willing to give everything she has for the boy. "And so the boy cut down her trunk and made a boat and sailed away. And the tree was happy... but not really." Although by the end of the story the tree is merely an old stump, the boy still asks the tree for a quiet place to sit and rest. Some may portray the giving tree to be strong due to her strong character, of giving something without expecting something in return. Although loving someone unconditionally is important the tree doesn't learn to stop. The boy and tree have a similar relationship as to a parent and its child. The difference between the two is that a parent knows when it is enough. Parents set boundaries and rules for their child in order to be self–reliant later in life. The tree, however, gave everything away freely developing a weak character in the boy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Who Is The Old Apple Tree In Purdy's Detail Purdy's "Detail" delineates an old apple tree grown near a ruined stone house, with descriptive details that capture the tree's symbolic meaning of nature's durability. This symbolism is exhibited in the tree's endurance to the winter storm, its apple's durability, and its progress deprived of human care. The apple tree endures the harsh upbringing of the winter storm, withstanding the harsh elements of nature against its own nature roots. The polarization of the durability of artificial and natural substances is expressed, as "in spite of hurricane winds," the apple tree still produced "little golden bells" and are "perhaps none of the other" varieties of apples raised in a "civil" environment. Myths serve to answer the questions mankind was and is unable to answer simply. This sharing of information has given historians an array of mythologies from across the world that can be placed on a semi–clear time line as they adapted and parts changed to better suit a single cultures demands. The similarities between the two myths lead to the conclusion that Heracles Eleventh Labor along with the second portion of Genesis are not typical creation myths. The myth itself is not so much a creation myth as it serves a greater purpose than to tell how the world and man came to exist. It's purpose is to demonstrate being and the relationship man has with mortality and his surroundings. Genesis and The Eleventh Labor both feature some very major aspects. Both involve the male intelligent hero, innocent naïve female(s), and a serpent that complicates matters and dwells in the forbidden apple tree. The most clear comparison comes from the garden itself. Genesis places civilization to the east of the Garden of Eden, thus placing the garden itself in the west. The Garden of Hesperides is described as being on Mount Atlas, "...where the panting chariot–horses of the Sun complete their journey...", also placing the garden in the far west. In addition to the description the Greek word Hespere means evening, when the sun sets in the west. Along with sharing a location, the gardens both symbolize a paradise characterized by carelessness, happiness, and tranquility. However, the speaker seems to be despairing over the loss of his red apple tree, and because of the little metaphors placed carefully throughout the poem, I feel that he is comparing the emotions of a human death to this death. This poem just goes to prove that very different circumstances can lead to the same types of emotions. However, when one takes a closer look outside Caddy's and/or Quinton's window, the fruit tree that "grew near to the house" reveals itself to be more significant than just another aspect of the setting. The tree symbolizes the growth of the Compson family, but is also, at least in part, ironically responsible for the destruction of the Compson name. Is the fact that this convenience lead both to loose their innocence also a coincidence? Did Faulkner just forget what kind of fruit grew on his tree when speaking of it in relation to each women? Is it too much of a stretch to connect the fruits to their corresponding religious relevance? The evidence is there to argue that the answer to all of these questions is no. But one cannot know with complete certainty without input from the author, which thankfully, exists, "[The Sound and the Fury] began with the–the picture of the–the little girl's muddy drawers, climbing that tree to look in the parlor window with her brothers that didn't have the courage to climb the tree waiting to see what she saw." Knowing that the image of the tree, in particular when Caddy climbed it, captured and inspired Falkner, tells the audience to take a closer look at the significance of the tree in relation to Cady, and to the story as a whole. In the above quote, Faulkner specifically calls it a pear tree, which indicates that the pear is the more important symbol than the apple, or he would have called it an apple tree. Inspired by his religion, "A Poison Tree" was written as an attempt to inform people about the problems that are created when one does not address the issue or their anger when it is still minor and resolvable. When grudges are kept unresolved, the person and the people around them are negatively impacted by the consequences of the grudge. He wanted to teach people that holding grudges hinders personal growth by making one bitter and creating a need for vengeance. In order ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The author 'finding' his enemy underneath his tree means that he wasn't in control of what he was doing when he had killed or hurt his enemy, proving Blake's point that suppressing rage can cause people to do things that they would not usually do. The imagery in the poem allows the reader to better comprehend the significance and meaning behind Blake's words. In addition to imagery, Blake incorporates symbolism in his poem numerous times to emphasize that the suppressing of anger will cause it to grow eventually and later, cause an eruption with all of the animosity within. The title symbolizes how rage and the evil within a person can develop further just like a tree when it is given the proper conditions. The audience can assume that the "tree" in the poem symbolizes the anger of the speaker as the poem explains how hard the speaker works to keep the anger from showing, but that just makes it easier for his true feelings to reveal as the size of his anger was too much for him to bare. The growth of the tree increases to the extent of it actually "bore[ing] an apple" (Blake). Blake was specific to choose an apple tree because the tree alludes to the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Bad in the Bible. Although, it isn't specified that the tree is an apple tree, traditionally it is assumed that it is. In the Bible, the story of the forbidden apple relates to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Shel Silverstein's The Giving Tree Has someone ever loved you so much that they would lose everything just to have your presence In the book the giving tree, Shel Silverstein expresses the feelings of a tree to a boy. The main idea is "don't take from someone until they have nothing left to give you". Providing time and protection of the child is a major part. But the most important thing is that they do not become lonely and forgotten. When being a parent, this is their job, to keep them welcomed and to never forget about them. • 64. Personal Narrative Essay : My Mother's Apple Tree I saw the tree as I rounded the corner of the street, my mother's apple tree, with its boughs stooping low and leaves twirling in the light autumn breeze. It was shorter than I remembered, its branches no longer reached towards the stars, nor did its roots stretch beyond horizons. Instead it was like any other old tree, confined to the tiny front yard of my mother's antiquated Victorian cottage, trapped between the cobbled footpath and the peeling picket fences. Once upon a time a swing swayed from its branches, I remember painting the seat green in spring and red in autumn, to match the apples. In those years long gone, my mother and I would drag out that rickety stool and take turns picking the delicious fruits, scrambling to savour their sweetness before the birds got ahead. Yet I don't quite remember which year it was the tree stopped flowering – ten or fifteen years ago? Perhaps even longer than that. Now, with its barren branches overhanging at peculiar angles, it looked as though it could no longer bear its own weight. Now, without its luscious green foliage and abounding fruit, it had no more to give. Shame my mother would never let me cut it down. Emptying her letterbox on my way to the front door, I tossed out the stack of obnoxiously colourful advertisements and open the only piece of official correspondence. • 66. Essay about Neglect Poem Analysis Feelings of "Neglect" "Neglect" by R.T Smith explains the feelings of neglect by using imagery, metaphor, and connotation. This poem talks about a path of neglect that a man followed that led to the destruction of his red apple tree. The narrator put too much of his time and attention on his other marvels to not put it into the apple tree as well. Therefore his red apple tree, though thought to be inevitable, died and filled the narrator with regret. A regret that appears to haunt the author, and fills him with sorrow. One of the literacy devices used in "Neglect" is imagery. Towards the beginning of the poem, the author uses it in the following quote, " skew the sap's / passage, blacken leaves, dry the bark and heart" (lines 5–6). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A second example of a metaphor is found when the author writes, "Smoke is all, ... ,/ I've been given to remember" (21–22). This is an example of a metaphor because it is comparing the "smoke" to death and how he was too blinded by the other blessings he had received, and now regrets it. It connects with the meaning of the poem because it shows how if something is neglected too much, it will eventually disappear and come back to haunt the neglecter, and the only memories that will be left to remember it by is the "smoke" that it leaves behind. The third literacy device that was found throughout the poem is connotation, which the author uses frequently in the poem. The first quote is, "Is the scent of apple boughs smoking in the woodstove what I will remember..." (1–4). The word "smoke" in this poem is a connotation because it carries a meaning of sadness and death. In every quote the author has it in it brings a feeling of sadness and how he was too blind to see that death was on the verge for his loved apple tree. It connects with the poem with its ability to change the mood from what seemed to be the author becoming happier, back to the depressing tone that was throughout the poem. It kept reminding the reader of the fateful death that the tree went through and the author's sadness. The second connotation is later in the same sentence, "... of the Red Delicious I brought down..." (1–4). The phrase "Red Delicious" is said twice ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 68. How Does The Poison Tree Rhyme Scheme The poem is metaphorical in nature. The title 'poison tree' is a metaphor used to describe anger which is a harmful emotion, likened to poison. The apple fruit, borne from the watered poison tree, depicts revenge. Once the poison tree was all grown it bore the apple fruit which was an evil plan of vengeance. The writer also uses a regular rhyme scheme in the poem to create rhythm. The rhyme scheme is such that the last words in every two lines in each stanza sound the same. For example, in the first stanza, the words 'friend' and 'end', 'foe' and 'grow'. In the second stanza: 'fears' and 'tears', 'smiles' and 'wiles'. In the third stanza: 'night' and 'bright', 'shine' and 'mine'. In the last verse: 'stole' and 'pole', 'see' and 'tree'. Symbolism ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 70. A Poison Tree Figurative Language Essay Mark Twain once said, "anger is an acid that can do more harm to the vessel in which it is stored to anything on which it is poured." What he was saying is that anger harms the person holding it in more than it would if the anger was acknowledged. Mark Twain was not the only person to understand this concept. Through figurative language, diction, and structure, William Blake's "A Poison Tree" demonstrates how bottled anger creates bitterness. Blake uses figurative language to illustrate how anger, when kept inside, creates bitterness within a person. In the poem Blake specifically uses metaphors to illustrate his point, therefore Blake utilizes the growth of an apple tree, in line ten of the poem he says, "And it grew both day and night./Till ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... More specifically Blake uses the title, which is "A Poison Tree," to further present his theme. In the poem his foe became dead to the speaker because of an apple from the tree. Bitterness is poisonous and in the poem it is because of his bottled anger that the "tree" grew therefore by titling the poem "A Poison Tree" Blake is suggesting that bitterness grows out of bottled anger. The title is also taken as a reference to the biblical story of Adam and Eve. In Genesis it says that Eve ate from the forbidden tree and Adam and Eve were separated from the garden of eden. Similarly when the speakers foe 'ate' the apple from the tree, his foe was dead to him. In addition to using the title, Blake also uses the movement of the poem. In the first 2 lines of the poem the speaker tells his anger and the problem is resolved, but as the speaker does not resolve his anger it just keeps growing eventually into bitterness. In the poem when the speaker tells his anger that part of the poem ends quickly with only two lines before shifting over to the opposite. Therefore when he does not tell his anger the poem gets longer and longer representing how anger keeps growing into bitterness when not acknowledged. It is shown throughout the structure of the poem that bottled anger creates ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 72. Literary Analysis Of After Apple-Picking By Robert Frost From "After Apple–Picking" by Robert Frost Lines 1–8 "My long two–pointed ladder's sticking through a tree Toward heaven still, And there's a barrel that I didn't fill Beside it, and there may be two or three Apples I didn't pick upon some bough. But I am done with apple–picking now. Essence of winter sleep is on the night, The scent of apples: I am drowsing off." In the selected lines from Robert Frost's "After Apple– Picking," Frost creates the setting for the poem through time indicators, while also relaying the idea that this is not simply a poem about only apple picking, but it is metaphor about life and death where "apple picking" means collecting and life experiences. Line one states "My long two–pointed ladder's sticking through ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The barrel that is not filled represents the capacity to do things before an end of some kind, and the space that could occupy the barrel is empty. In other words, the empty barrel represents missed opportunity: in the case of apple picking, it could be filled with apples, but is not at the end of the day. When this concept is related the life itself, it means that ones life could be filled with memories or life experiences, but at the end, they have not occurred. Then Frost tells us, "Beside it, and there may be two or three– Apples I didn't pick upon some bough"(4–5). With these lines we get more information relating to the "barrel that is not filled," which says that there is apples to be picked to fill the barrel but the narrator does not pick them. With the analogy relating the missed apple to missed life experiences, it can be inferred that there are two or three life experiences that have or will be missed. The word "bough"(5) literally means the main branch of a tree. The missed apples while apple picking were not missed because they were on a small limb; they were missed seemingly on purpose, because if they were on a small hidden limb it would be understandable if they were missed on accident. This tells us that the theoretical life experiences, represented as apples, were not small in nature but large. This is a representation of Frost's feelings toward the ending of life before one is done experiencing normal life steps. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 74. Literary Devices In Neglect By R. T. Smith Neglect: to fail to care for properly. This one word can give one feelings of despair, wretchedness, desolation, and even more. What a perfect word to describe the destruction of something loved most dearly. R.T. Smith is an award–winning poet, author, and editor. In Smith's "Neglect", a man is sharing his sorrows with the reader because of the death of his beloved Red Delicious apple tree. Throughout this poem, the author is attempting to explain his emotions of regret and sorrow by using different literary devices such as imagery and metaphors to compare the death of his apple tree to the death of a family member or close friend. Towards the beginning of the poem, the speaker uses imagery when he says, "Is the scent of apple boughs smoking in the woodstove ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The speaker knows that the smoke from the burning applewood and the red apples from the tree are all he has left to remember of it. In the sentence "...and Red Delicious apples redder/ than a passing cardinal's crest or cinders." (lines 23–24), the protagonist is comparing the apples to a cardinal's crest and cinders from the woodstove, therefore using a metaphor to describe his feeling of loss. He won't ever get to see the bring red apples from his own apple tree, so he's lamenting the fact that the last few are all that he has left. Overall, this poem could have several different meanings. However, the speaker seems to be despairing over the loss of his red apple tree, and because of the little metaphors placed carefully throughout the poem, I feel that he is comparing the emotions of a human death to this death. This poem just goes to prove that very different circumstances can lead to the same types of emotions. In a poem like this, where we know nothing but the event that took place, it allows us to interpret the words in our own ways, allowing room for anything to happen. What Does The Poison Tree Represent A symbol is a person, a place, a creature, an article, or an occasion inside of a bit of composing that exists on a literal level additionally alludes to something on a figurative level. In relationship with William Blake's the poison tree, the idea of a tree that is toxic take us back to the Tree of Knowledge of good and evil from the book of Genesis. Likewise the title of this poem represents its central symbol. That the speaker sustains his anger against a foe, and it develops into a tree bearing poisonous fruit. typically, Poison reveals death, malicious; it is normally given to somebody with a specific end goal to murder them. Tree reveals growth, nature, or an image of rot. Evil is being embodied on a tree. In line 4, the speaker said that his anger grows on the grounds that he didn't say anything in regards to it. In line 13, the garden as a symbol alludes to the Garden of Eden and the Tree of Knowledge which the apple was eaten and prompted the fall of Adam and Eve. Plus, the garden here resembles an image of the spot in our brain where we let our resentment develop and get to be damaging. Induction Of Decision Trees : Analysis The paper, Induction of Decision Trees, briefly discusses the history of machine learning algorithms, the decision tree family of algorithms and their various use cases before giving an in depth explanation of the ID3 algorithm. This essay focuses on a couple of central ideas behind induction on decision trees. The first section will contain general background information and context leading up to the creation of decision trees. Once the context is established, there will be a quick introduction into the ID3 algorithm. This will be followed by a more rigorous discussion of the concepts of shannon's entropy and information gain. Following the discussion on entropy there will be a quick overview on the proposed methods of handling noisy data. The last section will contain a critique of the paper. The field of artificial intelligence gained in popularity during the twentieth century, accompanying the rise in ubiquity of computers. During this time, the main goal of research was to use computers to solve problems in an intelligent manner. In other words, researchers sought to develop algorithms that learn how to solve problems. Quinlan mentions that one group of researchers focused on creating programs that learn through a feedback cycle of self–testing and "adjusting internal parameters." A good example of this would be a program written to play checkers against itself many thousands of times. Each time a sequences of moves produces a winning result, that sequence is given a ...
