2. Hostility
The relationship between China and the USSR began
to cool in 1956 when the new Soviet leader, Nikita
Khrushchev, began to develop relations with the U.S
and other capitalist nations
The Chinese intensely disliked this “bonding” of a
Communist nation with a Capitalist one, and numerous
armed clashes started between them and the USSR
along their borders (Amur River.)
3. Deeper Hostility
Eventually the Soviets, infuriated, stopped all economic
aid to China by the year 1960.
Tension became much worse when China tested its
own atomic bomb in 1964.
Further armed-clashed occurred throughout the years
of 1969-1978, and signs of war were inherent in the two
nations
