The Barcelona Activa Incubator Network is made up of a total of four
facilities, all of which are environments for innovation, provided with
the most advanced infrastructures and services to support business
projects in the process of creation and growth.
Three of the four incubators in the network are located in 22@,
Barcelona’s innovation district. A strategic space for business
stimulation where various members of the city’s business and innovation
ecosystem coexist: large enterprises, universities, research centres and
start-ups.
Companies selected
Priority will be given to those projects that:
• Bring value to the city (generating jobs, social and/or environmental
impact, etc.).
• Have an ethical management model (hiring people with special needs,
considerate of work/life balance, etc.).
• Are led by women.
Entry requirements
• Over 50% of their share capital must be held by people who are working
in them.
• Present an executive summary to assess the feasibility and the degree
of compliance with the specific criteria of each incubator.
• To have a registered office in Barcelona.
Services
Logistics and administrative services
The incubators have open-plan modules available at a public price
according to the area occupied. Incubated businesses can increase and
decrease their space during the incubation period, depending on their
needs.

In addition, a permanent security service
allows access to the facilities 24 hours a day,
365 days a year.

Since its creation in 2011, the aim of the Almogàvers Incubator has
been to collaborate with other organisations to boost the city’s business
ecosystem. This collaborative effort is currently carried out with
organisations that promote businesses that have a positive social impact
and institutions that support entrepreneurship.
The projects hosted by the Almogàvers Incubator must be linked to
one of the collaborating organisations, who are in charge of processing
and evaluating the entry applications, as well as defining the entry
requirements of incubated companies.
Coworking Space
In addition to the work modules allocated for private use for business projects,
the Almogàvers Incubator has coworking spaces.These consist of spaces which
are equipped with the necessary furnishings for the group of self-employed
professionals and micro-businesses who have been active for no longer than a
year and who wish to have an independent but shared work space that fosters
relationships with other companies and teams of professionals.
The Glòries Incubator, located in the main Barcelona Activa complex,
is a space for business growth designed to support highly innovative
start-ups. It began to operate in 1988 as the first business incubator in
Spain and one of the first in Europe, and it is currently an international
benchmark for this type of facility.
Companies wishing to settle in this incubator must be in their first year
of commercial activity and they can stay for a maximum of three years,
which is considered the average period of time for a business to grow and
begin its consolidation process.
Within the framework of the new Digital Economy, the MediaTIC Incubator
was established in mid-2017, with a three-fold objective: to offer the
necessary tools to facilitate the growth of technology-intensive companies,
to promote and strengthen the digital economic ecosystem and fabric, and
to foster the technological transfer of knowledge and results obtained in
research aimed at businesses and society.
This incubator is aimed at development-intensive companies, which have
been active for no longer than two years and have a high technological
impact. In this sense, it is geared towards companies that are developing
technology in the fields of Artificial Intelligence, the Internet of Things,
space technologies, Big Data and robotics.
ESABIC Barcelona is promoted by Barcelona Activa, the European Space
Agency, the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC), the Barcelona
Provincial Council, the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona, the Baix Llobregat
Regional Council and “la Caixa”, and is located in the RDIT building of the
UPC, in the Castelldefels Mediterranean Technology Park.
The ESABIC is part of the European Space Agency’s network of incubators
(ESA BIC Network) and aims to make products and services based on
space technologies and knowledge, applied to any non-space related
industry, accessible to the public and to businesses.
Business projects with a maximum of five years since the start of their
activity that meet the specific programme requirements and which are
linked to geo-localization, satellite communication, space materials,
critical software, big data, power management, energy and robotic
efficiency, among others, can join.
The incubated projects will receive, along with all the mentoring and
support of Barcelona Activa, technological guidance from the UPC and
the ESA itself, and an economic incentive for the development of products
and services co-financed by the ESA and the other the local partners in
the programme.
UXLAB
A space dedicated to test processes and user experience in order to improve
product design, usability and accessibility and therefore increase companies
chance of success.
