2. Continuous fibre reinforced thermoplastic (CFRT) is a composite material that contains high-performance continuous fibre, such
as carbon fibre, glass fibre, or aramid fibre that is impregnated in a matrix of thermoplastics like polycarbonates.
CFRT – Advantages
Short process time: Thermoplastic composites are easier to process and can have
much shorter cycle time than thermoset composites, what offers significant cost
benefits
Quality: High quality and precise alignment of the continuous fibres make
these tapes ideal for use in highly stressed, fibre-reinforced, lightweight structures.
Lightweight material: Fibre-reinforced thermoplastics are ~40% lighter than
aluminium and up to 80% lighter than steel making them ideal for use in highly
loaded fibre-reinforced lightweight structures
Recyclability: Thermoplastic composites can be recycled due to the possibility of
remelting
High mechanical performance: CFRT offers very good mechanical performance
related to density
