2. How did you come to Thailand?
• Obvious!! By a nice aircraft, Right?
– There are a lot of things that are behind the
screen for us to fly safe and comfortable.
– We remember MH370? – How not?
• A Sad ending to Air Asia flight was certainly not
expected when I prepared this PPT.
– This talk will get you a clear pic on security related
terminologies and threats for the security.

4. Problem Statement
• What is TTL (Total Technical Life)?
• No means to measure the actual stress of an
aircraft by capturing various parameters and
thereby enhancing the useful life.
• Not many outputs have been proven fruitful
from this research area.
• For achieving the best utilization to enhance
TTL, various tools are required in a totally
ensured security environment

5. The most important parameter of
better TTL is Security!!
• Internal Security
and
External Security

6. How can TTL be enhanced?
• By leveraging components like sensors, exhaustion meters, gravity
readers during design stage of planes
• Introduction of much effective mechanisms for monitoring
parameters
• Conducting maintenance activities periodically so as to retrieve
additional inputs for future analysis
• Temperature, wind and moisture conditions combine together
create weather conditions that reduce the performance of the
flight. So, such aspects needs to be evaluated as features of flight
parameters and should be captured in any form
• Introduction of stronger on board condition and monitoring
systems
• In case should the main systems of flying equipment fails auto
change stand by systems should be ensured as backup
• Periodic activities must be performed to check whether the
designed values are similar to actual values

7. Internal Security
• Birds hits
• FOD check
• Working Tools misplacing
• Maintenance related issues /Human error
Aircrew
• External environment influence (Example :
aircraft parking)

8. External Security
• Sabotage (disrupt, a sample being bomb being
kept in a cargo package)
• Communication system Failure (Land base or
airbase) - Example Airline aircraft
• IFF (identification Friend or Foe)
• Security while flying in non radar coverage area.
• Weather
• Unidentified technical failures while flying.

9. Contd.,
• “An important and neglected arena is the environment.
From the days that the first MiG flew with Indian
colours in 1964, till today, the environment around our
air bases has become increasingly hostile. Housing
colonies and industry have mushroomed around Air
Force stations. This has increased bird activity in the
form of vultures and kites that circle around looking for
garbage to feed on. Slaughter houses have come up at
locations that are smack in the middle of the take off
path or landing approach. Proliferating industry brings
with it migrant labour who live in juggins and generate
garbage that is never removed by local municipalities.”
