Deployment and the Military Family
Deployment and the Military Family

Deployments are a difficult time for military families. Deployment of a loved one affects the whole family. The service member may worry about
how his family may fare without him or even miss milestones in his children's lives. The spouse has to function as a single parent and take on
responsibilities left behind by the service member. The children may suffer from behavioral problems and not adjust well to having a parent deployed.
Few studies have been done to examine the affects of deployment on military families. There are many hardships faced by military families. Unless you
have experienced the demanding lifestyle of the families you ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Speaking from the perspective of a military spouse, my opinion is this; we are proud of our service to the United States as a family. The sacrifices that
have been made are worth keeping our children and fellow citizens safe. We are a living and working part of the organism called society.
The military family may very well fit into the conflict perspective. The military family is constantly battling to protect the power of the nation from
other nations. Families are a constant state of conflict with each other. The service member deploys. The children begin to experience behavioral
problems. The spouse takes on extra roles acts as single parents.
With military families in a constant state of conflict there are now research groups doing studies to find out what the effects of deployment are on the
whole family. As these groups release their findings we can offer families resources to help combat the conflicts of deployment. Some resources now
being offered to improve quality of life are parenting classes adapted to military life style, child care, and mental health resources. Operation Purple
Camp is one example of the studies that is helping military families. The program gave children to meet other children like them. It also surveyed the
families on several different occasions to gather data (http://www.rand.org/pubs/working_papers/2008/RAND_WR566.pdf).

The Battle Of War And War
There are many different components to war, far beyond the soldiers and battlefields. Soldiers at war may make the ultimate sacrifice in the sequence
of battle, but societies at war deal with the compromise. War requires more non–renewable resources than any other industry in the world, the most
abundant of those resources being humans. Since July 4, 1776 the US has been in some sort of conflict for 222 of the 239 years since that day.
Humans require more basic necessities than any other living organism on the planet. The resources necessary to support a war are endless and can
have massive affects on industry, geopolitical structure, populations, educational institutions, and much, much more. With The US having actively
participated in war almost the entirety of its existence, war has been impacting everyone and everything in existence be it living or not. Humans
alone, without the resources necessary to participate in war, require at least sustenance and shelter just to sustain life. Beyond that there are human
needs such as clothing and skills to sustain life within a society. For each of these individuals it is mandatory to obtain one outfit of clothing, one
meal a day that is sufficient enough to avoid poor nutrition, one place to sleep. For the women and women of our armed forces these needs are met
and merely more. At three meals a day, a place to sleep usually four or more to one room, and three daily outfits including footwear, we can see the
military is rather

Military Drinking Age
Drinking Age of the Military: Should it be Lowered
Jason M. Stoudt
DeVry University
The drinking age in the military is currently set at 21 years old as it is set for the rest of the country. There has been an age old statement widely
used by those in the military, "If I am old enough to fight and die for my country, I should be old enough to drink". The debate is out there that the
drinking age should be lowered for all young adults from 18 years old to 21 years old. The idea behind the fact that younger people tend to have less
responsibility and are not good candidates for being allowed to drink is a valid point. Those serving in the military are different in that respect for the
fact that they have more responsibilities than that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the examples that is used to show that lowering the drinking age to 18 years of age is a bad thing is a panel that was done in 1975 to 1993.
In this panel they surveyed 39 states that had lowered the drinking age to 18 yrs old between the 1970's and the 1980's. The mortality rate for
those states included in the study showed that once the drinking age was lowered the fatality rate from motor vehicle accidents had risen
substantially; most of the fatal accidents were at night. When the drinking age was raised back to 21 years old the fatality rate had dropped back to
a lower level as it had before the age was lowered. The documentation shows that when those that are 18 to 21 years old are allowed to drink the
death rate from alcohol consumption in motor vehicle accidents are raised. Now the death rate for those that are over the age of 21 years old has
increased slightly only due to the fact that the younger population now allowed to drink has been introduced into the equation (Carpenter–Dobkin,
2011). Simply stating that because they are allowed to drink at 18 years old and that some of them get into accidents with motor vehicles while
intoxicated on alcohol is irrelevant in the case that there is evidence in the report that those that are over 21 years old are still getting into the same
type of accidents. Also considering the level of technology that is current in the world today

A Memo to the President from a Military Base
This is a memo is in response the recent events at the San Onofre nuclear facility and the military's capabilities in the region and potential responses to
the problem. In the tri state area California, Nevada, Arizona. We have 29 military bases with several others in the surrounding states (Colorado, New
Mexico and Oregon). This disaster is, depending on the wind, a serious threat to at least: southern California, central Arizona and northern Mexico.
However we have reason to believe that this could affect southern Nevada and central California as well. It is for tis reason that our first and foremost
priority should be evacuation and containment of contamination. For this task all four military branches and the coast guard are equipped and willing
to asset in these two tasks; however some of the military bases in the region must be evacuated first so that they may return to help in the evacuation.
This evacuation of military personal would also allow for military bases to be used as evacuation centers for a more smooth, coordinated and
centralized evacuation. Mr. President, the military is at your complete disposal and is prepared to do what is necessary to help in the evacuation
process. While we (the military) have 29 bases in the region several of our largest bases are in close proximity to the blast and could be/ are in
habitable and inoperable. Camp/ Marine Air station Pendleton are both in such a close proximity that it is in operable, inhabitable, and for all

When I Met The Next Best Thing
I was going through a rough period in my marriage and had started attending a local church with the hope that I 'd find peace in serving God. That
's where I met the next best thing: Connie. Connie arrived on the scene when I needed her most and upon talking with her, I found out her husband
was in the air force. Surprisingly, most of the church 's congregation consisted of military families, many of them who lived on base. While I 'd had
grandparents, my father, cousins and friends who had served our country, I 'd never actually been on an air force base before and while I 'd heard
plenty of war stories through the years, my new–found introduction with the military lifestyle surprised me. Accustomed to watching men or women
leave their homes and take off for duty, this time I had a rare glimpse into the military families who get transferred along with their loved ones. Connie
and her husband moved off–base where they managed an apartment complex several blocks away from where I lived. On fair–weather days, she 'd
make the somewhat lengthy trip by foot and stop and visit with me. At that time I was married to my first husband who openly disapproved of
Connie, but that didn 't discourage her visits. She 'd smile at my husband and say, "Hello, how are you?" Then, innocently ignoring the scowl on his
face she 'd stay and chat for a while. She took an interest in me, and often invited me over for herbal tea. We shared everything with each other and I

U.s. Military Bases From Okinawa
The US should withdraw it 's military bases from Okinawa
This paper explores and confirms the idea for The United States of America to withdraw all bases from Okinawa. This resolution is affirmed because
not only is the U.S. military presence unnecessary but also it degrades the local population and environment. Thus to end such an undesirable state the
US ought to withdraw the military bases from Okinawa.
The first contention is that the US presence in Okinawa is unnecessary. TheUnited States only has the base in the region so that they are able to defend
from a possible Chinese or North Korean advancement. Concerns about China's influence are centered in the South and East Asian Sea. To reduce the
burden on Okinawa, the United ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It also has some 80 anti–submarine warfare or maritime patrol aircraft. Given the potential threat from North Korea 's missile arsenal, Japan has a
growing interest in ballistic missile defense. The country hosts two highly sophisticated US radars to track such weapons. It currently has four
destroyers capable of shooting down ballistic missiles along with land–based PAC–3 missile interceptors. More are planned. This year, Japan 's
Maritime Self–Defense Force commissioned its largest vessel yet – a new helicopter carrier – the JS Izumo. This could potentially embark a number of
V–22 Osprey vertical lift aircraft that can be directed into the unlikely situation of a confliction.3 Given Japan's military plans and the location of
other bases, the US Okinawan bases are completely unnecessary and will only be a waste of not only space and resources but US military power as well.
Secondly, the island poorly handles the weight of the bases and Okinawa opposes a U.S. military presence. Over 30,000 citizens have protested the
U.S. base due to its infringement on sovereignty and its vast damages to the local population. Certain official protests have lasted over hundreds of
days.4 Clearly, such a large population determined to protest continuously for such a long time, can show that the people of Okinawa passionately

Racism in Hampton Roads
Racism in Hampton Roads
Axia College of University of Phoenix
As a resident of Langley Air Force Base, we have been living in Hampton Virginia for just over two years now. This area of VA is predominately black,
and while I am from South Texas and lived with mixed races there, I have never seen racism the way I have here. When I am on base to go shopping
we have a lot of retired military people and they are always pleasant and smiling and telling you to have a nice day. Off base is a different story, people
are rude, give you dirty looks and basically look at me the white girl, like what are you doing here. We live in base housing so we have people of all
races and nationalities living ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is the first time since we lived here that I have not felt safe in my home.
With my husband being in the military I tend to stick to going to the base for things I need. Work manuals that I have seen do pertain to people like
me and other military members and spouses. The local media focuses a lot on the military and the military community. There are six or eight
military bases in the Hampton Roads area so we see a lot of coverage on the local news channels as well as in the newspaper. The air shows that are
put on by the Air Force Thunderbirds and the Navy Blue Angels are big things around here and we get great coverage on the shows and show times.
I do feel that the minority groups' interests are represented in our community. Most of the time that I hear about it is during a sports season, without
sounding like a stereotype, most of the athletes that we hear about are black and are very good at what they do, and that is when I notice the news
talking about minorities. I think it is great that they athletes get scholarships for higher education, because I know there are some families who could
not afford it otherwise.
If I could resolve any inequities in my community it would be for everyone to treat everyone the same, sure if we lived in a perfect world that would
happen,

The Pros And Cons Of Aliens
Do you believe In Unidentified flying objects? Unidentified flying objects or UFOs are suspected to house aliens. I believe that UFOs and aliens are
real and should be investigated by scientists. Aliens are the beings that are the ones who fly these UFOs. There are many people that believe in UFO
and Aliens because of events that have happened. These events are the Roswell incident, crop circles, the secret surrounding area 51, Stonehenge and
the great pyramids.
Area 51 is one of the most secret places concerning aliens and UFOs. Area 51 is located in the Nevada Desert. It is supposed to be a military base, but
many people believe it has more to deal with aliens and UFOs because of it being so secretive. "The patch of fenced off land, measuring six by ten

California has the highest number of sightings with 11,202. I believe that most of the sightings in California aren't actually, UFO sightings. I
believe that it is maybe it is just aircrafts flying overhead. One of the most controversial event that has happened over the years. Tis event happened
in July of 1947. This event was so controversial because the Army Air force recovered a flat disc that was flying and crashed in Roswell, New
Mexico. A New Mexico congressman attempted to find the documents where this UFO was removed but it was unable to be found. This incident
wasn't even considered a UFO incident until the year 1978. The Army Air Force dismissed the evidence of it being related to a UFO by saying it
was a weather balloon. Some authors of books wrote that the debris was not from a weather balloon at all but from a UFO and bodies of aliens. The
claims of the UFO debris and bodies found on the site went on and everyone was saying that the army Air Force was covering the scene up. The
records showed nothing of a cover–up. After all the commotion down about the Roswell situation the Army Air Force got away with hiding

The Pros And Cons Of US Military Bases
The Pros and Cons of US military bases overseas

POLS 260
16 December 2016
According to Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense James R. Blaker, military bases are "installations routinely used by military forces" that supply
their personnel with the means and equipment to respond to a threat within the land it occupies (The Editors, 2011). As the world's only superpower,
the US possesses more military bases in foreign countries than any other state in the entire world. In the year 2015, it was reported that the US had
approximately 800 military bases in more than 70 countries worldwide (Vine, 2015). By projecting power abroad, the US influences transnational and
global actors in an effort to maintain ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To answer this we must look at the stability and political environments that encompass a state because they play a large role in the ability of other
actors to occupy land that it controls. For this reason, the US should only associate with countries that follow their same beliefs. The US must be
cautious as to what countries that they decide to ally themselves with in order to analyze potential political outcomes (Lostumbo, Michael J.,
McNerney, Michael J., Peltz, Eric, 2013). Factors that can play a role can include a countries economic growth, annual GDP, or if there is ethnic
conflict within the territory. If analyzed in an efficient way, the argument can be made to allow for the structuring and development of overseas bases

Off Base Living Vs Military Life Essay
Military Life: On–base Versus Off–base Living
Sacrificing their lives serving the United States of America, military personnel at least deserve a worthy home. It is common for military families to
move every few years and each time comes with a decision of living in a civilian home of their choice or an assigned family–sized home on the military
base to which they are assigned. Both options have their pros and cons: for instance, their differences in privacy, cost effectiveness, and security are all
major factors in which home location is the better option.
A lack of privacy can be a significant issue for many who are raised modestly, but others may not think it is a big deal. On base, it is common to live in
tight nit communities with co–workers who can literally hear their neighbor's toilet flush; that's embarrassing! It may be convenient to have an on–base
commissary, hospital, school, and shopping mall; however, usually everyone living there takes advantage of these amenities and gets to know each
other very well, so the latest gossip spreads like wildfire. Unlike on–base, there are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is extremely common for military personnel to inevitably be re–stationed every few years, so moving and saving money would be a smart choice.
Renting or buying homes off–base grants more freedom and creativity in the home, like painting pretty murals and adding construction projects; but
investing all that money into something that will be left behind appears pointless. As well as the home investment costs, the commute for living
off–base is also pricey to get to work and everywhere else depending on the distance. The traffic hasn't even been taken into account and everyone
knows how irritating it is. Fortunately, the military provides a housing allowance for those who choose to live off–base, and pays for the house and
utilities for those who choose to live

Personal Statement: A Career As A Public Affairs Officer
I want to become an expert in my field. In May of 2016 I graduated from the A.Q. Miller School of Journalism and Mass Communications and
immediately began my career as an Air Force Public Affairs Officer. Part of my job as a Public Affairs Officer is to give advice and counsel to the
commanders of the base when communicating with the public, the media or internal audiences. My commanders need to know they can trust my
advice and that I have had the training necessary to make the right call. I want to further my education in mass communications to gain a deeper

He met with Mr. Appleby and the league about the possibilities of the land use. Earlier that year, (August 1916) there was a bill that was passed by
the U.S. Senate that allowed the Secretary of War to accept land that was donated tomilitary for a supply station, mobilization, training, and other
strategic military purposes. The General and the appointed members from Washington State took their proposal to Washington D.C. and met with the
Secretary of War, Chief of Staff, and President Woodrow Wilson to discuss the possibility of a military post in the Nisqually area of Pierce County.
Part of the agreement for establishing the post was that Washington State would donate 140 square miles to the military. Mr. Appleby and his league
now had the daunting task of convincing the community members that purchasing and donating the land to the Army was the beneficial thing to do
for Pierce County and the Puget Sound area. "On 6 January 1917, 86 percent of the Pierce County Electorate voted to bond themselves for 20 years
for $2,000,000 to purchase 70,000 acres to be donated to the federal government for use as a military base" Lewis Army Museum (2015). The
community agreed to the terms but could not donate the land until the United States was officially at war. Once the U.S. entered World War I, Pierce

involving informational versus normative information, it opened my eyes further to understand how influenced society is as a whole. Another similar
example that has been growing recently is social media. Instead of flipping on the news stations, it is just as popular now for individuals to look up
information on the internet. Although just like how news stations are biased and only hold true to the sources they support, as do websites on the

Background And Setting Of An Air Force Base Essay
Comments: Extra stuff is here about the background and setting. For people not familiar with the setting of an Air Force Base, I've written background
and setting descriptions.
Skip to the Observation section if desired.
I was disappointed that my hypothesis did not prove correct. However, by walking through the store after the observation time some of my hypothesis
was vindicated when I found people forming groups inside the store.
I like to watch group dynamics. The interactions between people draw my eyes' attention. The human dynamic makes this interesting, but only if they
are interacting. As far as my lens goes, if people aren't interacting, there's nothing happening.
Background. When people agree to defend the United States by putting on a military uniform, they are commonly referred to as being "in" the
military. Many papers have been written about being "in" the military, but I think the meaning is unique and personal to each member of the armed
forces. To me, after 17 years of being on active duty wearing the Air Force uniform, I am "in" the military just as a non–military person is "in" society.
The military lifestyle is a microcosm of the larger American way of life. In our ranks we have upstanding citizens, caring parents, honest and
hard–working men and women as our airmen, soldiers, sailors and marines. We have married, single, homosexual and heterosexual people. We have
pedophiles, wife–beaters, thieves and embezzlers. The services draw from the population of

A Social Worker Coordinator On The United States
Upon learning from a Connecticut National Guard recruiter that I was ineligible to enlist in any branch of the United States Armed Forces due to a
chronic illness that will require medication indefinitely, I was devastated. However, despite this devastation, it was my desire to serve and to be a part
of the military culture that became the driving force behind the decision to become a certified Military Service Members, Veterans and Their Families
– Advanced Social Worker (MVF–ASW). Even though this career does not involve being on the front lines, I can still provide direct services to the
children of active duty service members as they navigate the extended deployments, frequent moves and strained familial relationships. Even though
this particular credential is not mandatory to work as a youth services coordinator on a military base, it is recommended because it will provide me
with the specialized knowledge and understanding of military culture that can help me to be a more effective social worker in this particular field.
In order to become a licensed social worker in the United States, one must hold at least a Bachelor's in Social Work (BSW) from an accredited
program. With a BSW or a degree in a related field, the individual is able to provide the most basic of services to their clients such as casework or

Essay On Military Gear Shootings
In the past 45 years, there have been 27 shootings on various military installations with an approximate total of 78 killed and 120 injured. (Rothschild)
Of those, six were prior to the 1992–gun policy directive set up by Department of Defense Deputy Director, Donald J. Atwood under President George
H. W. Bush and modified by President William Clinton, restrictingmilitary personnel – with the exception of military and DoD police officers along
with sentries – from carrying weapons on base (Darcy). Subsequently, there has been a rise in shootings on military installations, most of which
could have undoubtedly been avoided if soldiers could properly protect themselves by having the choice to conceal or open carry on duty and off
when on an installation. To avoid more bloodshed on bases, personnel must be properly equipped and ready at all times. Before men and women
ship off to boot camp, they must demonstrate that they are eligible for enlistment by completing a series of tests. These tests are comprised of
multiple drug screenings and tests, physical fitness tests, aptitude tests, an extensive background test and a pregnancy test for women. However, if

I was about ten years old when this happened. It was in the fall of fifth grade, and I had just gotten settled into the new school year. My dad was
deployed to Kuwait, and so for the time being it was just my mom, my brother, and I. He had been deployed previously, so I was used to him being
away for months at a time. One thing that helped me get through the times he was deployed was my school who offered a special class called TDY
on Friday mornings before the bell rang. TDY (Temporary Duty) was specifically for students whose parent(s) was deployed and also offered support
for the children who needed help coping.

This of course upset me, as I knew my dad could still be in danger, regardless of his job in the military. I told Linnea as much, but she still did not

decided to ignore her and continue on with my day.
That night, I brought up the conversation with my mother and she reassured me that my dad's job was just as important. She also informed me that
without the Air Force, the Army would not have any planes to fly. This made me feel a bit better about the situation, but it was not until a few years
later that I realized that military youth have certain expectations they are to uphold.
Analysis
After this event I realized that being called a "military brat" is part of having a parent in the military. Military youth are often subjected to this term
as they are seen as spoiled and well off. This is due to the fact that many people think military families are always moving around and experiencing
new places. My family has never been stationed anywhere else, we lived on the same base for twelve years until my father retired in 2011. I have no
clue where the idea of military families being rich comes from but it was certainly not the case when I was growing up. Just because one

11 years, due to the rules governing how many credits can be claimed in the first year of the credit period). Thus, the $70,000 of annual credits
described in the illustration will yield a total of $700,000 of credits over the credit period. Three examples of LIHTC properties in Chicago are Jade
Gardens, East Park SRO, and Riverside. Jade Garden is three 3–story apartment buildings with a total of 72 units that was placed in service in 1996.
The project cost about $7.4 million and received $2.7 million in tax credits allocated at about $500,000 per year. The project received $.54 in tax
credits per every dollar used in the project. East Park SRO cost about $7.1 million and has 152 units that were placed in service in 1995. This project
received $2.9 million in tax credits which is about $.53 on every dollar. Lastly, Riverside has 258 units and was put in service in 2007. This project cost
about $33.7 million and received about $11.3 million in tax credits which is $.94 on every dollar. These projects are examples of how tax credits are
encouraging developers to create housing for low–income families. These homes are very modern and blend easily with the surrounding communities.
Future studies should compare military housing model and public housing to determine which is more successful and why. Although

The Concept Of Organizational Learning
Employing professionals and engaging them in organizational learning not only strengthens their skills and mastery of their professions, but also
creates a competitive advantage. Organizations do not magically develop into learning organizations. As organizations mature over time, they often
lose their ability to be innovative as their structure and ways of thinking become set. Changes developed to remedy problems more often than not
become temporary only to re–emerge in the future. In order to create competitive advantage, organizations must learn faster than their competition and
develop an environment that is ready to respond to customer requirements. This paper defines the concept of organizational learning and applies it to a

In summary, a learning organization is one that cultivates an environment that supports learning, places emphasis on learning practices and processes,
and includes leaders who advocates, drives and models continues learning. (Garvin, Edmondson, & Gino, 2008) The Naval Station Weapons Center
(NSWC) Crane Division, Indiana, is a prime example of a learning organization. NSWC Crane provides United States warfighters with engineering
and total lifecycle support for many of their strategic missions, electronic warfare and special missions systems. NSWC Crane employees are some of
the highest trained, educated and skilled professionals. NSWC Crane is the third largest United States Naval base in the world. (Naval, 2016) NSWC
Crane fosters an environment that supports both formal and informal continuous learning. Learning begins for their employees on their first working
day. All new government employees are sent through a two–week training course called onboarding. This indoctrination course sets the tone for all
new employees. During this intense training employees are introduced to the myriad of learning opportunities offered to them, which will allow them
to grow and work on their own goals. One such program is the Defense Acquisition University (DAU) Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement
Act (DAWIA) Program. (DOD, 2016) This program is a process in which all acquisition workforce employees are required to be certified in which
ensures that its acquisition,

A Veteran Banned From Military Housing
Doberman Pinschers and German Shepherd dogs mark 100 years with the AKC. Both German Shepherds and Dobermans were the Devil Dogs in
WWII (Mahood). Both dog breeds have given years of service to the military. Both dogs have been faithful loyal companions and incredibly
intelligent. Both dogs are ranked in the top five for obedience and working intelligence ("Dog intelligence rankings"). Yet, the German Shepherd is
currently the military police's working dog and its veteran companion, the Doberman Pinscher, is currently banned from living in military bases. How
is breed banning fair or even effective? In January 5th 2009, the Department of the Army released a memorandum announcing a new pet policy for
families living on military base ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
U.S. Army Veterinary Command (VETCOM) and the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) as well as many other organizations, believe
that breed bans are not the answer and is an inadequate solution to reducing dog bite fatalities on military installations. They believe that "a
comprehensive approach versus breed bans is a more realistic method of controlling dog bites within a community" (Rolfe). Banning breeds is a
knee–jerk response that is inappropriate and ineffective. Any breed can be dangerous; there was a case where a Dachshund was involved in killing an
87–year–old woman ("2005 dog bite fatalities"). This policy assumes that all dogs of a certain breed is considered dangerous and will bite, instead
of acknowledging that most dogs will not. Another issue is breed identification. According to the memorandum, the dog will be not be allowed if
officials think it looks like one of the banned breeds. That makes the policy unfair even to dogs that are not from the so called "dangerous" breeds.
For example, a Labrador–Boxer mix, the result looks a lot like a Pit Bull, but are in no way related. Or certain black and tan Labradors that look like
Rottweilers. The deciding factor is not breed, it is ownership. Irresponsible ownership in the form of poor care, neglect, etc. results in a potentially
dangerous dog. Irresponsible owners will just get a dog that is not banned

Zombie Movies By George A. Romero
If zombie movies have taught me anything, it 's that a zombie outbreak can happen at any minute. Who knows how the outbreak will start: maybe the
outbreak begins from a fragment of meteorite carrying some disease being hurled onto the earth, a government experiment gone wrong or a hell has
ran out of room. No matter how it happens, it's up to you to prepare and to be ready for when such outbreak occurs.
Zombie Types:
Classic Zombies:
Popularized by George A. Romero, the classic zombie is characterized by its slow rigor mortis like movements and the carnal desire of consuming
human flesh. The primary means of infection is through their bite. Although not very intelligent and slow moving, zombies are not to be
underestimated. Often ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Again, take a look at your surroundings, looking for places suitable enough to protect you. Try looking for something that will last as this can end up
being home base for some time.
Home –
If your lucky, the outbreak occurs when you 're at home. This is your territory, your home turf. Make sure to fortify the premises using what ever
materials you have at home, making sure to take care of any weak point such as windows. Once when everything is fortified, do an inventory check
and start devising rations. Devise a means to leave the premises just in case you need to escape or when you need to leave for supplies.
Mall –
A common trope in zombie movies, its not hard to see why malls would make for a great makeshift fortress against the mobs of zombies. Most stores
in the malls have metal gates that can be pulled down, making it difficult for zombies to break through. Behind the stores you may even find a tunnel
system, making trips from store to store or even outside possible.
Be careful, if the outbreak occurs during your time at the mall. An attack made from a zombie may spread panic among the populace, at this point in
time you need to worry more about being pushed or trampled by the on coming masses then zombies. When you have the chance, keep an eye out for
any areas not containing too many people and find your means of escape or shelter.

My Life That Influenced My Development During The...
Martin Luther King Jr. (1965) once said, "We must learn to live together as brothers or perish together as fools." This quote stuck has always stuck
with me and that is because of living in many places and experiencing different cultures and societal norms; I cam to learn no matter where someone
came from or where they have been, being part of the military no matter the branch is part of one big family. Throughout an individuals life they
experience events, which have great influence on their development, whether it is good or bad. In this paper I will be covering various aspects
about events in my life that influenced my development at during this point in my life. This point is going to be at the ages of 14 to 17, also known
as adolescence. Before I talk about this point in my life I am first going to cover certain relevant background information, family influences,
sociocultural and environmental influences, and finally I will discuss my own personal development during the adolescent stage, specifically that of
the ages 14 to 17. To start this paper it is best to being with any relevant background information during this period in adolescence. During this point
of life I was a brother, a son, a friend, and a student. Both my parents were working; my father was active duty Air Force and my mother worked on

Port Operations Naval Station Norfolk SWOT Analysis
Naval Station Norfolk is home to over 150 vessels with frequent visits from ships throughout the world. Port Operations is one of many departments
onboard Naval Station Norfolk, and its mission is to provide service and support to more than 150 ships in the US Atlantic fleet (CNIC, n.d.). Naval
Station Norfolk recently celebrated its 100–year anniversary. Although the base is quite seasoned, its commitment to excellence has never wavered. In
1908, the first bill sent to Congress for the construction of Naval Station Norfolk failed to find its way through the halls of Washington (KГјrsener,
2010). In fact, it was not until 1917, after the start of World War II, that a bill was approved to begin constructing the world's largest naval station
(KГјrsener, 2010). The ability to provide support to numerous afloat assets requires the involvement on many activities at the naval station. Naval
Station Norfolk supports more than ten primary mission functions while providing a number of other services such as a medical and dental treatment
facility designed to meet the needs of thousands of service members in the Hampton Roads area. Additionally, the naval base routinely hosts personnel
for the Marine Corps, Coast Guard, Army, and Air Force

Military Bases Analysis
I believe the primary purpose of having military bases in different countries such as colombia or afghanistan is so that the United States will be able
to respond to events that could arise but would take longer to respond to from the United States itself.I think they mainly focus on a more quick
response time but they do also contribute to peace and stability by being that close to a certain place. I think the bases are less important in the
modern day since we have missiles capable of traveling miles and the ability to communicate around the world in an instant. I think the amount of
bases should be cut down but be more equipped with more people and be evenly spread out between countries to raise potential response times to
certain events.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Conflict against North Korea may also rise although I don't think so since terrorism isn't a tactic they could use being isolated and the United States
would use Massive Retaliation if that would happen. Army should always have the most budget since it's the most common form of conflict at least for
now. It was 1940–1970 I would oppose family to serve even though though that was the most needed time of people but nowadays conflict is a lot
lower than it was and I think it would be fine for someone to serve. As far as military i would say that they do share my views but the political impact
on the military, I would say that they don't. It's beginning to get less patriotic to serve the Military just because of the ending of the Cold War in 1990
and the decline of terrorism but that's not to say that serving the United States does bring a certain pride for your country. Patriotism for me means
that you are willing to give up your time and custom to serve a country that you really believe in. unfortunately patriotism is decreasing i feel like
since events such as the 9/11 have been more and more forgotten. We shouldn't rely on specific regions of the country to supply troops because that
would be unfair but of course there will be less volunteering troops

Military Base Personnel and the Use of Samsung Wireless Phone
Military Base Personnel and Use of the Samsung Wireless Phone
Objective
The objective of this study is to investigate the use of the Samsung wireless phone among military base personnel.
Introduction
This study intends to examine the use of the Samsung wireless phone among military base personnel and to determine their satisfaction with the use of
the Samsung wireless phone.
Methodology
The methodology used in the research is of a qualitative nature and will involve the use of the instrument of a questionnaire devised to ascertain the
level of satisfaction of military personnel with the use of the Samsung wireless phone
Literature Review
In a May, 2005, report Samsung was reported to hold the place for the wireless phone manufacturer whose devices consumers are most likely to
purchase during the next 18 to 24 months for four years straight and was reported by the American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI) study to be the
leader in customer satisfaction among cell phone manufacturers for the second year in a row. (Sprint Users, 2005, p.1)
In a recent report by Bloomberg Business Week on May 21, 2013 that Apple Inc.'siPhone "lost ground to Samsung Electronics Co. and Google Inc.'s
Motorola in an annual study measuring the satisfaction of consumers"В¦" (Moritz, 2013, p.1) The report states that Samsung has witnessed a "surge in
demand for its devices." (Moritz, 2013, p.1) Samsung is reported to have "climbed 7 percent to 76 from 71." (Moritz, 2013, p.1) According

Jacksonville, North Carolina, and the surrounding area is full of military bases. The biggest base is a United States Marine Corps (USMC) base
called Camp Lejeune. Some of the other bases: Air Station New River (USMC), Camp Geiger (USMC), Air Station Cherry Point, smaller adjacent
posts, and reserve stations (Google, n.d.). Every military personal that separates from their given branch is required to turn in their individual
issue gear. Camp Lejeune's Consolidated Issue Facility (CIF) states "Dirty, cracked, missing or broken gear is the last thing on the mind of a
Marine returning from Iraq" (Muth, 2006). This can be a challenging thing for Marines to accomplish the CIF department at Lejeune explains just
one of the challenges that they face "The only thing about cleaning the gear is that Marines are taking the flak jackets apart and drying them in a
dryer. The problem with that is that the outer shell will shrink so it's harder to get the SAPI (Small Arms Protective Inserts) plates back into them. If
you wash it you have to let the outer shell air dry" (Muth, 2006). This causes an extra amount of stress while trying to transition out of the military.
The gear has to be clean, undamaged and the correct generation that the service member was issued. A private origination that is dedicated to helping
with the military to civilian transition is USMC IIF they warn "Again there is no reason to have dirty gear. Take your time and take care of business.

My Childhood Memories Of Puerto Rico
Puerto Rico held many of my most cherished childhood memories. The 3 years my family spent there were some of the best years of my life. I
remember the day we arrived there and settled into a hotel to live temporarily. I wasn't sure why I couldn't understand my favorite cartoons
anymore. A man with a daughter my age took me to school during the first week and I couldn't understand that man either. My parents explained to
me that they spoke Spanish and soon enough in school, I was learning the language. We lived in a small house on a Navy base on the east side of
the island in a city called Ceiba. All of the houses were nearly identical, all of them small, grey and made of concrete to protect against hurricanes.
There was a park in my backyard that all the kids from the neighborhood would come to play at, but even better for me, there was a mysterious
patch of woods behind that park. I would spend most of my days there walking along the trail and looking for interesting flowers, eat wild bananas
straight from the tree, and sometimes finding iguana eggs. Nature played a big role in my life during those years. During the night, I would call asleep
the sweet sounds of CoquГ, a small tree frog that has a beautiful call, outside of my bedroom window. Sometimes, I was brave enough to attempt to
catch a wild iguana. I would ready my pillow case and creep slowly toward the animal, only to get spotted by it and slapped harshly by its tail. I still
hold a grudge against

Life on a Military Base
As we sat on the sea wall, I noticed the look of discomfort in Jackson's eyes. Ever since he had moved from Fort Bragg to my hometown, we had
been best friends. It was the summer of 7th grade and we were preparing to go on a school sponsored fishing trip. As we stepped aboard the boat,
Jackson pulled me away from the other kids and in a hushed tone muttered, "There's something I want to talk to you about. It's my dad."
In that instant I knew. The mix of gravity and sorrow in his expression revealed everything. Jackson explained that his father, a lieutenant colonel in the
United States Army, had been ordered to relocate to Germany for a new assignment. Like many of my friends from military families, Jackson would
move out of my life within weeks, swept away by the needs of the United States military.
Growing up near Macdill Air Force Base in Tampa, I met and befriended many children like Jackson with military parents. To the average civilian,
they were just normal kids from military families, but to those familiar with military culture, they were more commonly known as "military brats".
Used as a term of endearment and respect within the military community, "military brat" is defined by Mary Edwards Wertsch, author of the book
Military Brats: Legacies of Childhood Inside the Fortress, as the children of a military parent or parents who have served full–time in the United States
armed forces. The term extends to both former and current children of such parents, and is often

U.s. Military Bases Economic Benefits Essay
Despite the numerous amounts of struggles Okinawa has to face with the presence of U.S. military bases, there are some benefits for Okinawa. First of
all, the U.S. military bases bring economic benefits to Okinawa. After large portions of Okinawa 's land was taken by the U.S. military, the agricultural
industry in Okinawa, which was the main industry in Okinawa, suffered catastrophically. In response, the U.S.military increased the pay for the local
workers they hire and urged the Okinawans in the agricultural industries to come work for the U.S. military. Approximately 70,000 local workers were
hired by the U.S. military at most in the 1960s. In 2014, the U.S. military base employs about 8,600 people from Okinawa and is considered as the
second largest employer in Okinawa, which is right below the Okinawan Prefectural government. (The United States Marine Corps) The population of
Okinawa in 2014 was approximately 1,400,000, excluding the U.S. service men and their family members. (Okinawa Prefecture Planning
Department Statistics Division) Though the number of Okinawan workers hired to work in the military has decreased to less than one percent of the
population, there are several benefits for the workers. For example, the economic fluctuation does not have a large impact on their job because as
long as the military bases are present, the demand for workers will not disappear. Some of the work contents for Okinawans hired to work on base are

When I Met The Next Best Thing
During a rough period in my marriage, I started attending a local church with the hope that I 'd find peace in serving God. That 's where I met the
next best thing: Connie. Connie arrived on the scene when I needed her most and upon talking with her, I found out her husband was in the air force.
Surprisingly, most of the church 's congregation consisted of military families, many of which lived on base. Although I had grandparents, my father,
cousins and friends who had served our country, I 'd never actually been on an air force base before and while I 'd heard plenty of war stories through
the years, my new–found introduction to the military lifestyle surprised me. Accustomed to watching sons or daughters leave their homes and take off
for duty, this time I had a rare glimpse into the military families who traveled along with their loved ones. Connie and her husband moved off–base
where they managed an apartment complex several blocks away from where I lived. On fair–weather days, she 'd make the somewhat lengthy trip by
foot and stop to visit with me. At that time I was married to my first husband who for some reason openly disapproved of Connie, but that didn 't
discourage her visits. She 'd smile at my husband and say, "Hello, how are you?" Then, innocently ignoring the scowl on his face, she 'd stay and chat
for a while. We shared everything with each other and I knew no matter how weird or strange I sounded with my crazy ideas, Connie never once

The Stress Of Military Life Styles
Military life styles can be extremely challenging for those involved and the stress from this job can become an everyday thing. The stressors of
military life are not only present during the time a person is enlisted, but even after their service. Upon exiting the military, there are no given
handouts for any sort of help. With that being said it is not unusual for a lot of ex service personnel to never seek help on their own. Military careers put
many different burdens on those enlisted and their families. Relocation is a common topic of trouble in these settings. When families are forced to
relocate it can often times be very hard for every member. It is very common for those in the service to only stay in one place for a few years and ...

Military work is very hard work and it can take a toll on everyone. A lot of people worry about their loved ones that they have serving for many
reasons. Family members are not sure how to deal with the employment or deployment of the ones they love. Often times they start to act out and
create problems while trying to find ways to deal with this. Children with at least one military parent tend to act out, especially at school. When the
children act up in school it can be disruptive to everyone else not just the upset student.
There are a few options out there for someone who might be going through the stressors of having a military family member. Seeking out a

idea is just having someone who isn't family to go and talk to and get everything off their chest and also have another input to put into perspective on
the situation. Another option these families have is a military life and family counselor. Military life and family counseling started a little over ten
years ago when the rate of suicides within the military increased. Social workers sought out a way to help members of the military and their families
deal with the stressors of military life. A lot of times these families struggle with deployments and moving from different states and even

The United States Military Bases
For roughly 1% of the United States population, the past 10 years have been an ever changing experience serving across the world. On September 11,
2001, the United States was attacked by a terrorist organization residing in Afghanistan. The United States Armed forces were called upon to fight a
war against terrorism. In May 2003, this conflict extended to Iraq, which was acting as a safe zone for many of the world's terrorists. Since that time,
more than 70,000 contractors and sub–contractors have been hired by the Department of the Defense, in order to assist the United States military in their
mission against terrorism. These individuals known as the TCN's or 'third country nationals,' take part in everything from base security to cooking and
laundry. However, since these individuals are not United States citizens and the government has turned its back to them. Personal knowledge,
department of defense reports, and official law reviews contain a wide variety of information that give a look inside what has been happening on the
United States military bases. Allegations of human trafficking, sexual assault, and indentured servitude are all common issues these TCN's have
endured.
In 2001, the Pentagon began taking in contract offers from companies around the United States. Private contracting firms such as KBR Inc. or Prime
Project International began receiving over 15 billion dollars a year. Foreign conflicts can be very profitable for large businesses that invest time

The Stafford act is the "backbone" to any assistance provided by the federal government in the aftermath of a disaster, specifically in this case the
Military Support to Civil Authorities (MSCA). Originally amended from its predecessor, the Disaster Relief act of 1974, the Stafford act was
implemented in 1988. In the case of the Oklahoma City bombing, there is an exception to the use of military resources through solely the authority
provided from the Stafford Act, and that is the Immediate Response Authority based under the MSCA. This exception allows a local military
commander to provide assistance through resources and personnel to civil authorities before authorization was handed down. According to the U.S.
Army, "At the scene, some 100 Guardmembers immediately helped the search for survivors. They set up an emergency operations center and reported
to the state 's civil emergency management agency" (Smith, 2010). Hastily following these actions, assistance came from two local military bases,

where they are happy and successful, while filling a manning requirement. Their job involves skill in sales techniques and principles in many ways,
however, their pay is not reflective of most salesperson's jobs. They are not paid on commission or any other incentive program. Their pay is only

Reasons Behind Joining the Military Essay

that is a fast and easy choice for them. The military gives everyone a wide variety of options. College for instance, the military allows you to serve

When people realize that they can travel the world with the military, and have many career options to choose from, they realize that by joining military
they would have the opportunity to travel the world doing a job they love.
For some people that have a reason they do not want to go to college right out of high school is because they may be tired of going school. When
people look at the economy today, it is tough to get a job that they would want to make a career of without some kind of college credits or even a
degree. That is one thing that the military can offer to anyone that does not necessarily want to take that destination in their life. First, they will go to
the branch of their choice and attend their boot camp and learning the foundation of the basic knowledge recruits will need to know. Recruits then go to
a school, also called A school, but it is a lot faster than taking the time you would to go to college. It is very similar to fast track classes they offer at
college except you will go to school for about a month, learning everything you will need to know about your selected job. Once the recruits graduate
from A–School it is time for them to deploy to their first duty station and that is where they begin their career. When the service members reach the end
of their contract to the military it is the members decision on whether or not they will extend that contract and continue their work for the military, or
end their military career and start back

Deployment And The Military Family

  • 1. Deployment and the Military Family Deployment and the Military Family Amanda Meadows SOC 101 Susan Fouriner August 6, 2010 Deployments are a difficult time for military families. Deployment of a loved one affects the whole family. The service member may worry about how his family may fare without him or even miss milestones in his children's lives. The spouse has to function as a single parent and take on responsibilities left behind by the service member. The children may suffer from behavioral problems and not adjust well to having a parent deployed. Few studies have been done to examine the affects of deployment on military families. There are many hardships faced by military families. Unless you have experienced the demanding lifestyle of the families you ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Speaking from the perspective of a military spouse, my opinion is this; we are proud of our service to the United States as a family. The sacrifices that have been made are worth keeping our children and fellow citizens safe. We are a living and working part of the organism called society. The military family may very well fit into the conflict perspective. The military family is constantly battling to protect the power of the nation from other nations. Families are a constant state of conflict with each other. The service member deploys. The children begin to experience behavioral problems. The spouse takes on extra roles acts as single parents. With military families in a constant state of conflict there are now research groups doing studies to find out what the effects of deployment are on the whole family. As these groups release their findings we can offer families resources to help combat the conflicts of deployment. Some resources now being offered to improve quality of life are parenting classes adapted to military life style, child care, and mental health resources. Operation Purple Camp is one example of the studies that is helping military families. The program gave children to meet other children like them. It also surveyed the families on several different occasions to gather data (http://www.rand.org/pubs/working_papers/2008/RAND_WR566.pdf). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. The Battle Of War And War There are many different components to war, far beyond the soldiers and battlefields. Soldiers at war may make the ultimate sacrifice in the sequence of battle, but societies at war deal with the compromise. War requires more non–renewable resources than any other industry in the world, the most abundant of those resources being humans. Since July 4, 1776 the US has been in some sort of conflict for 222 of the 239 years since that day. Humans require more basic necessities than any other living organism on the planet. The resources necessary to support a war are endless and can have massive affects on industry, geopolitical structure, populations, educational institutions, and much, much more. With The US having actively participated in war almost the entirety of its existence, war has been impacting everyone and everything in existence be it living or not. Humans alone, without the resources necessary to participate in war, require at least sustenance and shelter just to sustain life. Beyond that there are human needs such as clothing and skills to sustain life within a society. For each of these individuals it is mandatory to obtain one outfit of clothing, one meal a day that is sufficient enough to avoid poor nutrition, one place to sleep. For the women and women of our armed forces these needs are met and merely more. At three meals a day, a place to sleep usually four or more to one room, and three daily outfits including footwear, we can see the military is rather ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Military Drinking Age Drinking Age of the Military: Should it be Lowered Jason M. Stoudt DeVry University The drinking age in the military is currently set at 21 years old as it is set for the rest of the country. There has been an age old statement widely used by those in the military, "If I am old enough to fight and die for my country, I should be old enough to drink". The debate is out there that the drinking age should be lowered for all young adults from 18 years old to 21 years old. The idea behind the fact that younger people tend to have less responsibility and are not good candidates for being allowed to drink is a valid point. Those serving in the military are different in that respect for the fact that they have more responsibilities than that ... The mortality rate for those states included in the study showed that once the drinking age was lowered the fatality rate from motor vehicle accidents had risen substantially; most of the fatal accidents were at night. When the drinking age was raised back to 21 years old the fatality rate had dropped back to a lower level as it had before the age was lowered. The documentation shows that when those that are 18 to 21 years old are allowed to drink the death rate from alcohol consumption in motor vehicle accidents are raised. Now the death rate for those that are over the age of 21 years old has increased slightly only due to the fact that the younger population now allowed to drink has been introduced into the equation (Carpenter–Dobkin, 2011). Simply stating that because they are allowed to drink at 18 years old and that some of them get into accidents with motor vehicles while intoxicated on alcohol is irrelevant in the case that there is evidence in the report that those that are over 21 years old are still getting into the same type of accidents. Also considering the level of technology that is current in the world today ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. A Memo to the President from a Military Base This is a memo is in response the recent events at the San Onofre nuclear facility and the military's capabilities in the region and potential responses to the problem. In the tri state area California, Nevada, Arizona. We have 29 military bases with several others in the surrounding states (Colorado, New Mexico and Oregon). This disaster is, depending on the wind, a serious threat to at least: southern California, central Arizona and northern Mexico. However we have reason to believe that this could affect southern Nevada and central California as well. It is for tis reason that our first and foremost priority should be evacuation and containment of contamination. For this task all four military branches and the coast guard are equipped and willing to asset in these two tasks; however some of the military bases in the region must be evacuated first so that they may return to help in the evacuation. This evacuation of military personal would also allow for military bases to be used as evacuation centers for a more smooth, coordinated and centralized evacuation. Mr. President, the military is at your complete disposal and is prepared to do what is necessary to help in the evacuation process. While we (the military) have 29 bases in the region several of our largest bases are in close proximity to the blast and could be/ are in habitable and inoperable. • 5. When I Met The Next Best Thing I was going through a rough period in my marriage and had started attending a local church with the hope that I 'd find peace in serving God. That 's where I met the next best thing: Connie. Connie arrived on the scene when I needed her most and upon talking with her, I found out her husband was in the air force. Surprisingly, most of the church 's congregation consisted of military families, many of them who lived on base. While I 'd had grandparents, my father, cousins and friends who had served our country, I 'd never actually been on an air force base before and while I 'd heard plenty of war stories through the years, my new–found introduction with the military lifestyle surprised me. Accustomed to watching men or women leave their homes and take off for duty, this time I had a rare glimpse into the military families who get transferred along with their loved ones. Connie and her husband moved off–base where they managed an apartment complex several blocks away from where I lived. On fair–weather days, she 'd make the somewhat lengthy trip by foot and stop and visit with me. At that time I was married to my first husband who openly disapproved of Connie, but that didn 't discourage her visits. She 'd smile at my husband and say, "Hello, how are you?" Then, innocently ignoring the scowl on his face she 'd stay and chat for a while. She took an interest in me, and often invited me over for herbal tea. We shared everything with each other and I knew no ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. U.s. Military Bases From Okinawa The US should withdraw it 's military bases from Okinawa This paper explores and confirms the idea for The United States of America to withdraw all bases from Okinawa. This resolution is affirmed because not only is the U.S. military presence unnecessary but also it degrades the local population and environment. Thus to end such an undesirable state the US ought to withdraw the military bases from Okinawa. The first contention is that the US presence in Okinawa is unnecessary. TheUnited States only has the base in the region so that they are able to defend from a possible Chinese or North Korean advancement. Concerns about China's influence are centered in the South and East Asian Sea. To reduce the burden on Okinawa, the United ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It also has some 80 anti–submarine warfare or maritime patrol aircraft. Given the potential threat from North Korea 's missile arsenal, Japan has a growing interest in ballistic missile defense. The country hosts two highly sophisticated US radars to track such weapons. It currently has four destroyers capable of shooting down ballistic missiles along with land–based PAC–3 missile interceptors. More are planned. This year, Japan 's Maritime Self–Defense Force commissioned its largest vessel yet – a new helicopter carrier – the JS Izumo. This could potentially embark a number of V–22 Osprey vertical lift aircraft that can be directed into the unlikely situation of a confliction.3 Given Japan's military plans and the location of other bases, the US Okinawan bases are completely unnecessary and will only be a waste of not only space and resources but US military power as well. Secondly, the island poorly handles the weight of the bases and Okinawa opposes a U.S. military presence. Over 30,000 citizens have protested the U.S. base due to its infringement on sovereignty and its vast damages to the local population. Certain official protests have lasted over hundreds of days.4 Clearly, such a large population determined to protest continuously for such a long time, can show that the people of Okinawa passionately wishes for the ... Racism in Hampton Roads Racism in Hampton Roads Axia College of University of Phoenix As a resident of Langley Air Force Base, we have been living in Hampton Virginia for just over two years now. This area of VA is predominately black, and while I am from South Texas and lived with mixed races there, I have never seen racism the way I have here. When I am on base to go shopping we have a lot of retired military people and they are always pleasant and smiling and telling you to have a nice day. Off base is a different story, people are rude, give you dirty looks and basically look at me the white girl, like what are you doing here. This is the first time since we lived here that I have not felt safe in my home. With my husband being in the military I tend to stick to going to the base for things I need. Work manuals that I have seen do pertain to people like me and other military members and spouses. The local media focuses a lot on the military and the military community. There are six or eight military bases in the Hampton Roads area so we see a lot of coverage on the local news channels as well as in the newspaper. The air shows that are put on by the Air Force Thunderbirds and the Navy Blue Angels are big things around here and we get great coverage on the shows and show times. I do feel that the minority groups' interests are represented in our community. Most of the time that I hear about it is during a sports season, without sounding like a stereotype, most of the athletes that we hear about are black and are very good at what they do, and that is when I notice the news talking about minorities. I think it is great that they athletes get scholarships for higher education, because I know there are some families who could not afford it otherwise. I believe that UFOs and aliens are real and should be investigated by scientists. Aliens are the beings that are the ones who fly these UFOs. There are many people that believe in UFO and Aliens because of events that have happened. These events are the Roswell incident, crop circles, the secret surrounding area 51, Stonehenge and the great pyramids. Area 51 is one of the most secret places concerning aliens and UFOs. This event was so controversial because the Army Air force recovered a flat disc that was flying and crashed in Roswell, New Mexico. A New Mexico congressman attempted to find the documents where this UFO was removed but it was unable to be found. This incident wasn't even considered a UFO incident until the year 1978. The Army Air Force dismissed the evidence of it being related to a UFO by saying it was a weather balloon. Some authors of books wrote that the debris was not from a weather balloon at all but from a UFO and bodies of aliens. The claims of the UFO debris and bodies found on the site went on and everyone was saying that the army Air Force was covering the scene up. The records showed nothing of a cover–up. • 9. The Pros And Cons Of US Military Bases The Pros and Cons of US military bases overseas Lee Mueller Dr. Sooh–Rhee Ryu POLS 260 16 December 2016 According to Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense James R. Blaker, military bases are "installations routinely used by military forces" that supply their personnel with the means and equipment to respond to a threat within the land it occupies (The Editors, 2011). As the world's only superpower, the US possesses more military bases in foreign countries than any other state in the entire world. In the year 2015, it was reported that the US had approximately 800 military bases in more than 70 countries worldwide (Vine, 2015). To answer this we must look at the stability and political environments that encompass a state because they play a large role in the ability of other actors to occupy land that it controls. For this reason, the US should only associate with countries that follow their same beliefs. The US must be cautious as to what countries that they decide to ally themselves with in order to analyze potential political outcomes (Lostumbo, Michael J., McNerney, Michael J., Peltz, Eric, 2013). Factors that can play a role can include a countries economic growth, annual GDP, or if there is ethnic conflict within the territory. • 10. Off Base Living Vs Military Life Essay Military Life: On–base Versus Off–base Living Sacrificing their lives serving the United States of America, military personnel at least deserve a worthy home. It is common for military families to move every few years and each time comes with a decision of living in a civilian home of their choice or an assigned family–sized home on the military base to which they are assigned. Both options have their pros and cons: for instance, their differences in privacy, cost effectiveness, and security are all major factors in which home location is the better option. A lack of privacy can be a significant issue for many who are raised modestly, but others may not think it is a big deal. On base, it is common to live in tight nit communities with co–workers who can literally hear their neighbor's toilet flush; that's embarrassing! It may be convenient to have an on–base commissary, hospital, school, and shopping mall; however, usually everyone living there takes advantage of these amenities and gets to know each other very well, so the latest gossip spreads like wildfire. As well as the home investment costs, the commute for living off–base is also pricey to get to work and everywhere else depending on the distance. While talking about the history and establishment of Camp Lewis is not as important as preparing for war, it is important in that the knowledge of our past will help posture and mold the future of tomorrow. The idea for Camp Lewis was fought for by the civilian populace of Pierce County in Washington State. Late in the year of 1916 the "Battle of the Somme" was at full force when a private group of concerned citizens got together at American Lake to organize a training program that was designed for non–enlistment personnel. Mr. Appleby and his league now had the daunting task of convincing the community members that purchasing and donating the land to the Army was the beneficial thing to do for Pierce County and the Puget Sound area. "On 6 January 1917, 86 percent of the Pierce County Electorate voted to bond themselves for 20 years for $2,000,000 to purchase 70,000 acres to be donated to the federal government for use as a military base" Lewis Army Museum (2015). The community agreed to the terms but could not donate the land until the United States was officially at war. Yet after recently learning about conformity involving informational versus normative information, it opened my eyes further to understand how influenced society is as a whole. Another similar example that has been growing recently is social media. Instead of flipping on the news stations, it is just as popular now for individuals to look up information on the internet. While the history and establishment of Camp Lewis is not as important as preparing for war, it is important to know the past in order to help posture and mold the future of tomorrow. The idea for Camp Lewis was fought for by the civilian populace of Pierce County in Washington State. Late in1916, as war continued to escalate in Europe, a private group of concerned citizens gathered at American Lake to organize a training program designed for civilian personnel. The program was designed to encourage readiness among the community in preparation for the possibility of going to war in Europe. One of the attending civilians was a cadet named Stephen Appleby. Mr. Appleby (a former Captain in the Minnesota National Guard) was vice –president of the Northwest Business Men's Preparedness League and a bank cashier for Tacoma Washington. He was informed that the Army was sending out a survey team to the Northwest in search of establishing an Army Post. Mr. Appleby contacted the commander of the survey team and asked him to make a site visit of the camp that the community had established as possibility of use for the Army. • 15. Background And Setting Of An Air Force Base Essay Comments: Extra stuff is here about the background and setting. For people not familiar with the setting of an Air Force Base, I've written background and setting descriptions. Skip to the Observation section if desired. I was disappointed that my hypothesis did not prove correct. However, by walking through the store after the observation time some of my hypothesis was vindicated when I found people forming groups inside the store. I like to watch group dynamics. The interactions between people draw my eyes' attention. The human dynamic makes this interesting, but only if they are interacting. As far as my lens goes, if people aren't interacting, there's nothing happening. Background. When people agree to defend the United States by putting on a military uniform, they are commonly referred to as being "in" the military. Many papers have been written about being "in" the military, but I think the meaning is unique and personal to each member of the armed forces. To me, after 17 years of being on active duty wearing the Air Force uniform, I am "in" the military just as a non–military person is "in" society. The military lifestyle is a microcosm of the larger American way of life. In our ranks we have upstanding citizens, caring parents, honest and hard–working men and women as our airmen, soldiers, sailors and marines. We have married, single, homosexual and heterosexual people. We have pedophiles, wife–beaters, thieves and embezzlers. The services draw from the population of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A Social Worker Coordinator On The United States Upon learning from a Connecticut National Guard recruiter that I was ineligible to enlist in any branch of the United States Armed Forces due to a chronic illness that will require medication indefinitely, I was devastated. However, despite this devastation, it was my desire to serve and to be a part of the military culture that became the driving force behind the decision to become a certified Military Service Members, Veterans and Their Families – Advanced Social Worker (MVF–ASW). Even though this career does not involve being on the front lines, I can still provide direct services to the children of active duty service members as they navigate the extended deployments, frequent moves and strained familial relationships. Even though this particular credential is not mandatory to work as a youth services coordinator on a military base, it is recommended because it will provide me with the specialized knowledge and understanding of military culture that can help me to be a more effective social worker in this particular field. In order to become a licensed social worker in the United States, one must hold at least a Bachelor's in Social Work (BSW) from an accredited program. The Value Of The Credits The credits are not provided in a lump sum but instead are claimed in equal amounts over a 10–year "credit period" (many projects claim credits over 11 years, due to the rules governing how many credits can be claimed in the first year of the credit period). Thus, the $70,000 of annual credits described in the illustration will yield a total of $700,000 of credits over the credit period. Three examples of LIHTC properties in Chicago are Jade Gardens, East Park SRO, and Riverside. Jade Garden is three 3–story apartment buildings with a total of 72 units that was placed in service in 1996. The project cost about $7.4 million and received $2.7 million in tax credits allocated at about $500,000 per year. The project received $.54 in tax credits per every dollar used in the project. East Park SRO cost about $7.1 million and has 152 units that were placed in service in 1995. This project received $2.9 million in tax credits which is about $.53 on every dollar. Lastly, Riverside has 258 units and was put in service in 2007. This project cost about $33.7 million and received about $11.3 million in tax credits which is $.94 on every dollar. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... U.S. Army Veterinary Command (VETCOM) and the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) as well as many other organizations, believe that breed bans are not the answer and is an inadequate solution to reducing dog bite fatalities on military installations. They believe that "a comprehensive approach versus breed bans is a more realistic method of controlling dog bites within a community" (Rolfe). Banning breeds is a knee–jerk response that is inappropriate and ineffective. Any breed can be dangerous; there was a case where a Dachshund was involved in killing an 87–year–old woman ("2005 dog bite fatalities"). This policy assumes that all dogs of a certain breed is considered dangerous and will bite, instead of acknowledging that most dogs will not. Another issue is breed identification. According to the memorandum, the dog will be not be allowed if officials think it looks like one of the banned breeds. That makes the policy unfair even to dogs that are not from the so called "dangerous" breeds. For example, a Labrador–Boxer mix, the result looks a lot like a Pit Bull, but are in no way related. Or certain black and tan Labradors that look like Rottweilers. The deciding factor is not breed, it is ownership. I think the bases are less important in the modern day since we have missiles capable of traveling miles and the ability to communicate around the world in an instant. The biggest base is a United States Marine Corps (USMC) base called Camp Lejeune. Some of the other bases: Air Station New River (USMC), Camp Geiger (USMC), Air Station Cherry Point, smaller adjacent posts, and reserve stations (Google, n.d.). Every military personal that separates from their given branch is required to turn in their individual issue gear. Camp Lejeune's Consolidated Issue Facility (CIF) states "Dirty, cracked, missing or broken gear is the last thing on the mind of a Marine returning from Iraq" (Muth, 2006). This can be a challenging thing for Marines to accomplish the CIF department at Lejeune explains just one of the challenges that they face "The only thing about cleaning the gear is that Marines are taking the flak jackets apart and drying them in a dryer. As we stepped aboard the boat, Jackson pulled me away from the other kids and in a hushed tone muttered, "There's something I want to talk to you about. It's my dad." In that instant I knew. The mix of gravity and sorrow in his expression revealed everything. First of all, the U.S. military bases bring economic benefits to Okinawa. After large portions of Okinawa 's land was taken by the U.S. military, the agricultural industry in Okinawa, which was the main industry in Okinawa, suffered catastrophically. In response, the U.S.military increased the pay for the local workers they hire and urged the Okinawans in the agricultural industries to come work for the U.S. military. Approximately 70,000 local workers were hired by the U.S. military at most in the 1960s. In 2014, the U.S. military base employs about 8,600 people from Okinawa and is considered as the second largest employer in Okinawa, which is right below the Okinawan Prefectural government. Although I had grandparents, my father, cousins and friends who had served our country, I 'd never actually been on an air force base before and while I 'd heard plenty of war stories through the years, my new–found introduction to the military lifestyle surprised me. Accustomed to watching sons or daughters leave their homes and take off for duty, this time I had a rare glimpse into the military families who traveled along with their loved ones. Connie and her husband moved off–base where they managed an apartment complex several blocks away from where I lived. On fair–weather days, she 'd make the somewhat lengthy trip by foot and stop to visit with me. At that time I was married to my first husband who for some reason openly disapproved of Connie, but that didn 't discourage her visits. She 'd smile at my husband and say, "Hello, how are you?" Then, innocently ignoring the scowl on his face, she 'd stay and chat for a while. On September 11, 2001, the United States was attacked by a terrorist organization residing in Afghanistan. The United States Armed forces were called upon to fight a war against terrorism. In May 2003, this conflict extended to Iraq, which was acting as a safe zone for many of the world's terrorists. Since that time, more than 70,000 contractors and sub–contractors have been hired by the Department of the Defense, in order to assist the United States military in their mission against terrorism. These individuals known as the TCN's or 'third country nationals,' take part in everything from base security to cooking and laundry. However, since these individuals are not United States citizens and the government has turned its back to them. Personal knowledge, department of defense reports, and official law reviews contain a wide variety of information that give a look inside what has been happening on the United States military bases. Allegations of human trafficking, sexual assault, and indentured servitude are all common issues these TCN's have endured. The Stafford act is the "backbone" to any assistance provided by the federal government in the aftermath of a disaster, specifically in this case the Military Support to Civil Authorities (MSCA). Originally amended from its predecessor, the Disaster Relief act of 1974, the Stafford act was implemented in 1988. In the case of the Oklahoma City bombing, there is an exception to the use of military resources through solely the authority provided from the Stafford Act, and that is the Immediate Response Authority based under the MSCA. This exception allows a local military commander to provide assistance through resources and personnel to civil authorities before authorization was handed down. According to the U.S. Army, "At the scene, some 100 Guardmembers immediately helped the search for survivors. They set up an emergency operations center and reported to the state 's civil emergency management agency" (Smith, 2010). Hastily following these actions, assistance came from two local military bases, Fort Sill and Tinker Air Force Base, where the commanding officers authorized a variety of equipment and personnel to assist before the federal government authorized assistance.
