INTRODUCTION
Wind power captures natural wind and converts it into mechanical energy and then electricity. Wind energy is the fastest
growing energy source in the world; aiming to produce 20% of its electricity by wind power by 2030. We started using
wind power centuries ago with windmills, they pumped water, grounded grain and so much more. Wind turbines today
are a much more evolved version of a windmill. They range in size at 80 feet tall and can power a single home. And a
utility scale turbine can power hundreds of homes. It is a renewable, clean source of energy that doesn't generate any
greenhouse gases. It can possibly improve (or not) our lives at home and work.

Wind energy is a renewable source of energy, that is harnessed through wind turbines. Wind turbines are placed in wind
farms, which consists of multiple wind turbines aligned in a row, that are built in certain locations in order to take
advantage of local wind patterns. The use of wind energy can be traced back to Ancient Egypt time. The people would
use wind energy to power their sailboats along the Nile River. The first windmills were used in Persia, in the Middle East
Region, 1500 years ago. Windmills were mainly used to for drawing water from wells and grinding grain("Wind Energy."
). Western Europe later modified it and made the commonly known propeller style with blades made out of blades. Wind
turbines today are strong, sleek, and well suited for converting wind into energy. The rotor blades are aerodynamically
shaped to make them more efficient. As the rotor blades rotate they convert energy into a rotation energy called torque.
The amount of torque produced depends on wind density, wind speed , and the length of the rotor blade. A generator in
the wind turbines converts the movement into electricity. Electricity is then sent through power lines. The widely used
wind turbines in the U.S. is the GE 1.5 megawatt model. It is a two hundred feet tower with one hundred sixteen blades
atop, coming in at a humongous height of three hundred twenty–eight feet("Wind Energy." ). Although wind energy is a
renewable energy source which means an unlimited amount of, there is a downside. The electricity generated by wind

The argument behind this logic being that nuclear power can be produced all the time and does not rely on variabilities of
the wind. They would also assert that wind turbines produce at a level of only twenty percent of their assessed potential

Over the past decades renewable energy has grown from a niche idea that money was skeptical of energy source to an
energy source that deliver a significant part of our country's needs. Clean energy is now one of the world fastest growing
industry. Despite its continued growth, renewable energy generation decreased in 2016 by 1% not because of decrease in
infrastructure but because there was less wind that year at the altitude of the conventional wind turbine. This paper
focuses on how we can harness the wind energy at the altitude higher than the conventional wind turbine by using a kite
power system which operate at altitude of 300m and the wind speed is about 200mph to generate more power.

The dissertation is divided into three main parts. In the first part, we proposed the hierarchical communication network
architectures that consist of a turbine area network (TAN), farm area network (FAN), and control area network (CAN) for
WPFs. The wind turbines are modelled based on the logical nodes (LN) concepts of the IEC 61400–25 standard. The
WPF communication network is configured with a switch–based architecture where each wind turbine has a dedicated
link to the wind farm main switch. Servers at the control center are used to store and process the data received from the
WPF. The network architecture is modelled and evaluated via OPNET. We investigated the end–to–end (ETE) delay for
different WPF applications, and our network architecture is validated by analyzing the simulation results.
In order to meet the growing demand of large–scale WPFs, integration of high reliability, high speed, cost effectiveness
and secure communication networks are needed. In the second part of this dissertation, we proposed the Ethernet passive
optical network (EPON) as one of promising candidates for next generation WPF. Critical communication network
characteristics such as reliability, mean downtime, optical power budget, path loss and network cost are evaluated and
compared with conventional switched–based architectures for five different architectures.

the wind turbines increase steadily, the wind power starts to have significant impacts to the power grid system. Therefore,
more advanced generators, power electronic systems, and control solutions have to be introduced to improve the
characteristics of the wind power plant and make it more suitable to be integrated into the power grid. Meanwhile, there
are also some emerging technology challenges, which need to be further clarified and investigated. The global electrical
energy consumption is still rising and there is a steady demand to increase the power capacity. The production,
distribution and the use of the energy should be as technological efficient as possible and incentives to save energy at the
end–user should be set up. The deregulation of energy has lowered the investment in larger power plants, which means

been one of the most recent developments in the field of renewable energy in the last several years. Wind farms seem to
be essential in our society to the continued push to reduce fossil fuel usage and greenhouse gas emissions. A cheaper
form of energy that also emits less pollution than traditional forms of energy production sounds perfect. We would never
know about the issues with it though, as far as most people know, wind turbines are helping produce productive energy

Wind Energy Significance in Global Health and Drawback in the Ecosystem
Abstract
Renewable energy is essential to the health of the environment. The U.S. alone puts 6.6 billion tons of CO2 into the
atmosphere yearly. This fossil fuel output is detrimental to human health and quality of life on earth. Wind energy is an
ideal renewable source of energy since it contributes trifling amounts of carbon emissions and is a cheap source of
energy. However, a major disadvantage of wind power usage is the resulting death of birds and bats. These avian species
are essential to the environment in the form of insectivores. Without these creatures the insect populations increase,
which results in greater plant leaf damage. This is specifically imperative in agricultural settings. However, the increase
in global temperature, as a consequence of fossil fuel usage and carbon emissions, is also harmful for the avian species.
Just a small rise in temperature displaces many birds and bats from their prospective habitats and acts to lower habitat
ranges. This is considerably more dangerous and may result in a drop in biodiversity of avian species globally. Therefore,
the global initiative must be to increase the utilization of renewable energy, more specifically wind energy.
