I would feel compelled to exhaust all efforts to partner with other government agencies, private
businesses and the community to raise funds in an attempt to prevent closing one of my centers. I
would have to look at potential ways to decrease my expenditures. This may mean that I had to
avoid adding any new programs or even reduce programs that I currently offer to only the most
essential and beneficial ones. I would have to determine if it would be more cost effective to
consolidate jobs and reduce workforce across the board or to close a center. Laying off a couple of

Circle K International Volunteering Report
As I have mentioned in my application I am a part of a service organization called Circle K
International. At the start, I never was really interested in doing any volunteering service. I said to
myself, "Hey, if I do community service my college applications would look better!" That was my
mentality when I joined, but it changed when I went to my first volunteering event. I went to a park
near the city of Mission Viejo, I didn't know what to expect. When I arrived, I heard that we were

Although each person is an individual, we all share common characteristics that are similar.
Formation of a community occurs when people with similar beliefs, ideas, or traditions congregate

collaboration of the members of the community was the most important concept. As community

The community organization project our research team chose was LRADAC. The process of
researching background information about the organization went well. Each team member
contributed to finding background information about LRADAC. Our project manager, Allison
Atkins, met with our research team at the beginning of the semester. We all chose Courtney to be the
liaison between Ms. Atkins and the group. Ms.Atkins stated, she had high expectations for the group
and she was willing to meet with us during the project. Initially there were not distinct roles for each
group member. Everyone's role became more defined when it was time to write the group papers.

The Security and Rights Collaborative has conducted statistical and demographic based research to
determine regions in the United States where MASA communities are growing quickly and are
relatively isolated. These findings will be used to identify MASA communities that would benefit

Going to many different private schools during my elementary and middle school years, I had the
opportunity to do many special things in my community most students did not have access to.
Though all of the schools were very different, they all had the common value of service before self
and gave their students numerous ways to help the school and community. From visiting nursing
homes, to playing with the band at school fundraisers, to being paired up as mentors with younger
students, I always had my hands busy providing someone in need. One of the biggest parts of my
community service was visits to those in assisted living. Those visits taught me an immense amount
about the importance of reaching out, especially to those who have been isolated from the outside
world. Just the act of visiting and singing Christmas carols, or simply talking to them brought so

Abstract
In this paper, we will be discussing how human services affect communities and organizations. This
will include personal and political empowerment and how human service professionals are involved
in the different social systems. We will also discuss how the social system responds to things such as
sexual abuse and delinquency. We will learn about the roles and responsibilities human service
workers have in the macro environment as well as understanding functionalism and theory to
poverty. All of these things will give us a better understanding of how the human service
professionals affect daily life.
When it comes to communities and organizations, human services professionals play a huge role.
The more help a community has to offer the better the people are. Human services professionals are
those who are in charge of helping with basic needs of clients. This could include but is not limited
to food, housing, emergency assistance, healthcare, nursing home issues, etc. Communities, who
show interest and keep up with the demands and needs of their residents, succeed far greater than
those who don't. Making sure residents are informed of services offered and where they can find the
help they need, can relieve a lot of stressful situations. Human services professionals have personal,
interpersonal and political empowerment. This means that they have the ability to help people,
whether it's an individual, family or community with what they need.

community crises is, therefore, evident and perpetual. Bill Lee (2011) suggests that a pragmatic
approach to community organizing intensifies community actions addressing community crises
associated with the problem of inequality, environmental degradation and crises, and economic

Bill Lee identifies community as "a complex notion of the way people live and connect with each

organizing should have specific objectives that include community participation, sense of

resources, and social learning in order to achieve community goal focusing upon citizen
empowerment (Lee, B., 2011, p. 94).

These offenders may form groups and teams and play different roles (Xu and Chen). These groups
and teams may have vastly different functions, such as production, transportation, distribution and
marketing of illegal goods and services, as well as the eventual laundering of the ill–gotten proceeds
from the illegal activity (Jiminez). Network analysis helps analysts determine the activities being
conducted by the criminal enterprise and who all is involved and in what capacity. In the end,
criminal network analysis integrates information from multiple crime incidents and even multiple

exhibited devastating impacts sought on by violence in conflict. As seen in the media, violence in all
forms, whether it be direct violence or structural violence, have had reoccurring themes of halted or
negative development and have been linked to psychological trauma in those who have personally
witnessed or been a victim of violent acts. Although conflict is inevitable in a world with a variety
of different cultural beliefs, political systems and resource availability, there are a variety of ways in
which conflicts can be resolved without resorting to the use of violence. Within many fragile
contexts, or "state structures that lack political will or capacity to provide the basic functions needed
for poverty reduction, development and to safeguard the security and human rights of their
population," (OECD DAC, 2007), communities have maintained impressive resiliency qualities.
Through the development of community–based peace building organizations, communities that exist
within fragile contexts would have the tools to maintain resiliency and sustainability during violent

Now with a child to take care of and no money at her disposal, she succumbed to alcohol and drugs.
During this time, practicing as a sex worker she came in contact with a social worker from Prerana
and after undergoing a health check–up discovered she is HIV/AIDS positive. She has lost all her
regular clients and was out of all options to make a living.' I began by forming a relationship with

The agency in which I wanted to research is the organization, Communities In Schools. There are
various locations where this organization has been established, one that is located in Charleston,
South Carolina. The national organization, Communities In Schools, has been around for almost

Social Isolation And Its Impact On Social Capital
Social Isolation and Its Impact on Social Capital The "surprising" finding of Rankin and Quane does
to an extent show the limits of previous research, such as Putnam, on social isolation, because it
does not take into consideration economic and race. Although, Rankin and Quane findings show
high levels of engagement among people in poorer neighborhoods the findings are not significant
enough to change the notion that social capital is eroding and therefore it is increasing social
isolation amongst Americans. In this essay I'm going to talk about how Rankin and Quane findings
actually correlate with Putnam's and other author point of view on the erosion of social capital.

Nicole: Man it would just warm my heart. I know too many people who have lost children. I know
too many people here in the Manitou Springs school district. There were two youth who took their
lives in one year. I mean it hits home across the nation of course across the globe. You study suicide
rates for a variety of other causes across the globe, but it's everywhere. El Paso County has one of
the highest rates of youth suicide so yeah I mean I would feel like I was actually providing true
public and community service by just doing as much as I possibly could to support families in order

Andrew: I think that that's huge Nicole and I think that's something that should really be talked
about and needs to be talked about. I also think as we're looking over not just messaging, but also
fundraising networks, we've certainly seen an increase in youth homelessness in Manitou and
neighboring Colorado Springs and I think as you stated there's been an increase youth suicide and
just coming from my experience as a gay man I think there's some connections there. There would
be a lot of people in the LGBTQ community interested in helping people who are = committed to
those sort of issues with first being that LGBTQ youth make up about forty percent of the homeless
population and thus are more prone to teen suicide so I mean looking for different demographic and
groups whether it be looking at the LGBTQ community or the Latino community or whatnot I think
you know it is not just good for outreach and messaging to those communities, but also potentially
fundraising bases as well.
Nicole: Absolutely. I'm so glad you brought that up because Urban Peak is an organization we have
down here. It's an amazing organization that deals with youth homelessness and I know the director
and communicate with her regularly. In fact, I just saw her at an event. Citizens Project is another
one that I attend their annual breakfast every year. I've got to know several of those folks and they
are very vocal and outspoken of the LGBTQ community so that's a great point we have several

Membership within healthcare professional organizations and community service organizations can
be very beneficial to one's career within healthcare management. In this paper, I will review and

In a situation such as this, if I were the director of a community–based human services organization
that includes sites in several towns and we were facing this crisis I would first schedule a meeting
with the head of the state–funding agency. In this meeting I would point out the significance of the

Many people get the terms service learning, volunteerism and community service mixed together.
All three were made to make a difference somewhere or in someone's life. The main difference
between these services are the primary intentions of the programs. Service learning primary purpose
is to learn from the experience and to improve their skills. By doing so, they are helping those in
need. Volunteering and community service have the most in common, except the fact that
community service can be done without a voluntary basis. Those services are done without the
purpose of learning something from it, even though they can have a learning experience. Even
though most are volunteers doing the job, many can be paid to volunteer, mainly by their job that
persuades their employees to do so.
Houston Food Bank is a private non–profit organization. They were established in 1982 and are a
certified member of Feeding America. Their focus is to help end hunger by distributing the most
meals possible to those in need. They can provide 83,000,000 meals a year, which they are trying to
improve in. Most of the meals they pack up are sent to pantries and other organizations that need
food for individuals and families. Usually, food banks do not distribute their meals, but Houston
Food Bank does. With the help of volunteers, they can sort, pack and distribute food. Most of the
food given to them are provided from donors, local companies around the city, and USDA. The food
given to them would go to waste without their help and the volunteers who make the meals happen.
I attended the Houston Food Bank, and while I was there, I could tell they have strong teamwork
within the organization. All the employees knew what to do and how to handle that many
volunteers. They all communicated with the volunteers with a professional, friendly way. They
could get everyone who came in to sign in and get everything set up to start the day. I was not able
to tell one thing that went wrong. It was impressive how neatly and organized they had the building.
The atmosphere, at least for me, made me feel involved and wanting to come back.
