Comparison Of Mariam In A Thousand Splendid Suns
In the story "A Thousand Splendid Suns", we follow the life of two different girls, Mariam and
Laila. They both lead two very different lives that spiral into two entirely different directions. They
had different education, different influences throughout their lives, and
One important difference between the two girls lives is their education. In the book, education is a
big theme in this story, especially surrounding these two characters. Thanks to the soviets, Laila was
able to go to a school and learn, something that was only privileged for men and boys. Mariam on
the other hand, was poor and considered illegitimate and not able to attend school like she wanted.
In the book, Laila states "Babi had made it clear to Laila from a young age that the most important
thing in his life, after safety, was her schooling." Laila's father, Babi, had always valued education.
He had made sure Laila got the most out of her chance at education while she could before it was
taken from her. After all, he had firmly believed that women could and should do what man can do
as well. Mariam's mother, Nana, never allowed her to go to school or bothered educating her. She
said how horrible school was and how learning was a waste of time. Though Mariam didn't see it
this way, this was her mother's way of protecting her from having the same bad experiences as she
had. Her intentions were good, but this only drove Mariam further away from her.
Another important difference between the two girls

1. What went well today? Provide 3 specific examples of children's actions/comments that occurred
during self–selected activities. What evidence do you have for your conclusion? DO NOT use the
words, "loved, liked, enjoyed;" rather describe the evidence of children's reactions to the learning
experience. Today we went on a field trip to the gardens and it went really well. The children ran,
jumped, screamed, and explored all throughout the gardens. I was so happy we all had the chance to
enjoy nature! At the beginning of the day several children and I climbed up some rocks. One child
exclaimed, "I am jumping on the rocks!" Another child fell, but quickly got up and said, "I am fine!"
As the children were climbing the rocks they took it slow. A few seemed a little hesitated to climb
the rocks because it was very unstable, but all of the children I was with, climbed to the top of the
rocky hill! After snack time a child wanted me to wrap him up in the blanket we had out to sit on.
He pretended he was a caterpillar and I wrapped him up in a cocoon. Then once he was wrapped up
in the blanket he said he was eating a lot of food and then he squirmed out of the blanket and started
flapping his wings, he said, "look I am a butterfly!" At another point in the day I was by water with
two children and we had sticks and we were fishing in the water. The children exclaimed that they
were trying to catch all the trash in the water, which consisted

Language in Jamaica Kincaid's Autobiography of My Mother...
Use of Language in The Autobiography of My Mother
Language. It is the way words flow into sentences, which flow into paragraphs, which flow into
novels. It is the ability of the author to create an intricate web of plot, emotion, symbolism, and
relationships through only words. In The Autobiography of My Mother , Jamaica Kincaid uses
language in a way that is very simplistic, yet highly effective. Her writing is direct and to the point.
There is neither flowery wording not complex sentence structure. Without the distractions of
overflowing language, the depth of Kincaid's material comes through with particular effectiveness.
It is the simplest of writing elements, that of repetition and opposition, that Kincaid uses to create a

Xuela is seen as she wants to be seen. There is no objectivity. The only way the reader comes to
know and understand Xuela is through her own words and her descriptions of the world around her
(Schine 5).
Another distinctive aspect of Kincaid's writing is the author's relentless use of repetition. It is hard to
find even a single page of the novel that is not deeply woven with repetition. The phrases "I know"
and "I did not know" constantly resonate throughout the novel. As Xuela comments on her father,
"That I was a burden to him, I know; that he did not know how to take care of me by himself, or
how to clean his own clothes himself, I know" (Kincaid 4). Xuela defines herself by what it is that
she knows and what it is she does not know. For her, there is no median. Xuela says she "would
rather be all dead or all alive, but never half of one and half of the other" (106). Those around her
are either kind or unkind; they are native, or they are foreign; they are sensual, or they are repulsive.
It is one way, or the other. There is no "gray" area. Kincaid uses the repetition to emphasize this
polarizing characteristic of Xuela.
However, it is the things that Xuela does not know that are truly definitive of her nature. She
comments:
At that moment there were so many things I did not know, not including the big thing I did not
know, my mother. I did not know my father; I did not know where he was from or whom or what he

Personal Statement : Pharmacy Tech
I feel like as humans we tend to make a routine for ourselves and before we know it we cannot go
beyond it. The effort to learn something or do something different becomes tiresome. Our lives are
conditioned to be a routine; eat, sleep, go to school (college now) and most dreadful of all, learn. It
is not come as a surprised as when school is over we come home and toss our book bags anywhere,
but, near. We do not want to be reminded of learning (until the next morning). So, for me my life
became a sort of routine and I was totally fine with that. I was okay with my typical boring high
school life with seeing the same friends and teachers and doing basically the same thing everyday.
Apparently, a certain someone had a different idea in mind for me. I have always wanted to pursue
nursing and my school did not have a class dedicated entirely to nursing, so I thought of the next
best thing...pharmacy tech? Little did I know, the teacher, Mr. Williams who teaches the class is a
total nutcase (in a good way) and he was definitely passionate about his profession. He was a tall
man that always had a goofy expression on his face, seems harmless, but he was a tough nut to
crack. He was a great teacher, but he had a way of getting students out of their shell, and I was at the
time very comfortable in my little turtle shell. So, I did my atypical routine and just did what I had
too, nothing more or any less. Mr. Williams was the type of teacher who liked to pick on students
and put them

West Point 's Character Development Essay
West Point is a place in which the development of one's self and one's character is among its top
priorities. So much so that there is an article titled West Point's Character Development Strategy
which outlines the way in which West Point aims to achieve this development. In one of this
document's first few pages it states that, "Every team, club, department, and directorate has an
overarching responsibility to build character or facilitate character development in each individual
throughout the course of the 47–month cadet experience." By making this statement, the
administration at West Point truly drives home how invested they are in the character development
of each individual cadet throughout their time at the academy in all facets of West Point life. To do
this, West Point narrowed the focus of the broad topic of character development on the individual
level down into five key facets; Moral, Performance, Civic, Leadership, and Social. Through my
time at the academy, I can truthfully say that the focus on my individual character development was
a priority and did fall in line with the five facets stated above. Throughout this development, it was
made blatantly obvious that I have some flaws and some strengths in my character. Of both areas, it
is easily discernable that my strongest facet is Leadership, while my weakest being Social. Despite
some flaws within their design, I was able to determine these strengths and weaknesses using the
systems that West Point has

The Need For Classification By Brian C. Vickery
In The Need for Classification the author Vickery (1975) introduces us to faceted classification and
gives his argument for the need for this classification. The author of the article Brian C. Vickery was
a librarian, academic and member of the Classification Research Group which was responsible for a
substantial amount of the work we have on faceted classification (Broughtan, 2015, p.301–302).
Vickery shows that the importance of classificcaiton cannot be denied as "Classification enables us
to select, from a whole universe of known entities, the one that best matches one newly
encountered" (Vickery, 1975, p.3).The chapter focuses on explaining classification and its feature,
illustrating the need for it in information retrieval and addresses some complications with the
different methods. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Subjects are divided into fields, field into facets, facets into hierarchies. Vickery illustrates this with
a diagram of an inverted tree (1975, p.1), the tree representing the field of study with branches for
different facets, twigs on each branch for different hierarchies. This way like entities are grouped
closer together than other entities in a particular fields. Taxonomic classification seeks "to arrange
all entities . . . into a single hierarchy" (Vickery, 1975, pg. 10). Vickery contrasts taxonomy with
subject classification which allows for an entity to occupy more than one hierarchy (1975, p.9). As
these methods of classification are giving explanation and Vickery also discusses the complications
that may arise with these different

Essay about Cinema and Religion
Cinema and Religion
Entertainment media are contributing to the emergence of new and novel forms of spiritual and
religious phenomena in our contemporary (and past) culture. The essays in this issue explore diverse
facets of the morphing relationship between entertainment, spirituality and culture. Over the last
century, the cinema has played a vital role in the expression and representation of Judeo–Christian
religious practices and beliefs. Early cinema told the life of Christ in the Passion Play and Cecil B
DeMille produced two spectacular versions of The Ten Commandments in 1923 and 1956. While
cinema represented religious themes and figures, religious institutions also shaped the emergence of
this moving image technology and its ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In our Post–Millennial era the Heavens are the home for satellites rather than angels and the New
Age emphasis upon the paranormal and extraterrestrial as alternative avenues for spiritual
expression and self–transformation melds with the prevalent sense of an impending apocalypse that
was reactivated by the spectacular disappearance of the Twin Towers on our television screens on 9–
11, 2001. Where once God may have been a singular entity that designed the world in seven days,
the multi–dimensional relationship between new and existing media technologies now activates
multiple worlds and multiple entities. The God/s of the Multi–verse take many and multifarious
forms from Elvis to Lara Croft and the signs of the Heaven or Hell emerge in the shopping mall, the
television screen, the web site and the comic book panel. Our media heroes are worshipped and our
creations come to life.
The task of media research and theory is to articulate how these Post–Millennial forms of religiosity
– how the uncanny spaces and the gods in the multiverse – are shaped by the media. How are these
spaces of dread or icons of worship articulated? This issue provides a collection of original research
and writing on entertainment forms – past and present. It presents an interdisciplinary focus by
collating material from historians, theorists, philosophers and practitioners involved in the study and
teaching of art, cinema, literature and new media. However, the advantage of Gods in the

How Business And Maximum Efficiency?
So, the topic that you wanted to discuss for today, innovations for technology that are helping
franchisers and franchises with their businesses and obviously that could span a lot of things from
efficiency and information sharing. So, I just wanted to hear your initial thoughts on this. What are
the advances that you have seen recently that are having an impact on how franchises do business
and maximum efficiency?
First, based on my observations with individuals that are currently operating in the quick service
food area is that they are seeing evolution 's in technology that are having as much of an impact on
the business today as drive–throughs did when they were introduced in the 60 's and 70 's. For

It was in New Hampshire and I purchased a 2 acre piece of property there and built a beautiful 4,500
square foot Burger King with a NASCAR theme and it had a gorgeous fountain in the front. It also
had a playground and it was not a big outlet. If I were still operating and building Burger Kings
today I would not build something that big because there is no need for it. I would buy a piece of
land that is probably a quarter of the size, maybe a half acre. The restaurant outlet would be 2,000–
2,200 square feet. It would have about 20 seats in it. It would only have about 20–25 seats in it but,
it would have a super high efficiency kitchen and I would be pushing as many sales as I possibly
could through the drive–through and the returns on that sort of an operation would be phenomenal.
You could take that as old technology and how it can be applied to things today.
Now, if we fast forward to 2015 talked about the impact of technology and how it is affecting the
"normal" for the quick service industry. Right now it is all about the app. Companies like Panera
Bread and Star Bucks whom are pushing the use of their app. Say you are someone who wants the
Pick Two from Panera Bread and you do not want to wait in line. You can pay for it and order it on
the Panera Bread app. The app tells you when it will be ready and then you go to the store and there
it is sitting there ready for you. The beauty of that is that it makes it more convenient for the guest. It

In Simply: The Use Of Persuasive Techniques In Advertising
Advertising In Simply
This product is the best thing that you will buy all in your life for the low cost of just. That is one
example of the ways advertisement try to convince you to buy their products or service. To that it is
within our bearings to understand what these advertisements are doing to make us want to buy their
product. With using different types of language and strategies advertisers are able to sell their
product to you the consumer in a multitude of persuasive techniques. So some of the most
commonly used techniques include factual advertising, personal emotions, comparative, and social
advertisements to persuade you into buys the company's product or service.
One of the many ways of persuasion in advertising is through the use of factual language. Factual
being on the matter that the ad product has some astounding numbers to it as of big importance in

among the others." Some prime examples of this technique in use are some old Pepsi ad they a kid
drinks Coca–cola first the haves a Pepsi and enjoys it more than the Coca–cola. Another example is
a Geico commercial where people drank the liquid and the better one was the Geico drink. This is
not the best of ads for the fact that it does not prove much, but it's a competitive ad so it works in
some matter. Lastly is on how these ads work towards making you want to buy or use the company's

When i was 14 i met someone who was quite older than me and very smart. Ever since then we have
been so close and we have been best friends. After this day i knew there was always gonna be
someone there at the end of the day that was there to listen to me and give me better advice than my
friends could. Josh was way more then a best friend he was family he was like a older brother i
never had, and so much more. He taught me to live life on the fly, by the second. He always knew
that the next day, hour, or minute was never promised. But along with josh's happiness and positivity
came the bad days also the days josh needed someone to be there for him for a chance so he could
have help with the problems that have been building up while he was pushing them aside to help
others. He drank to help cope with the pain that his "demons" put him through. This was a bad
choice on his part.. But we all have something that takes the pain away. We shared the same happy
place the beach. We could stay there from when the sun came up to when she sun goes down and not
have to say a word. I could tell josh was hurting for a while he quit coming around and he quit
texting me and this wasn't like him. Come to find out he fell at work off a ladder because of his
drinking and had broken his leg. He finally texted me and told me what happened and he said he
was sorry. And my life changed in the blink of an eye.

The Many Facets of Sexual Assault Essay
A model of sexual violence risk proposed by Abbey, McAuslan, and Ross (1998) posits a central
role for sexual misperception (i.e., perception of sexual interest or sexual attraction in a potential
partner when that partner has not intended to communicate interest). Normatively it has been well
documented that male college students perceive more female sexual interest than was intended to be
conveyed. Whether viewing still images, video, or live interactions, men tend to perceive women as
displaying more sexual interest than women view the female actor displaying and more sexual
interest than the female actor intended to display (Abbey, 1982; Abbey & Harnish, 1995; Edmonson

A man who implements an exercise program receives the cardiac benefit (Choo et al., 2010); a
woman who regularly uses barrier methods during sexual intercourse is rewarded with a reduced
probability of HIV infection (Davis & Weller, 1999). In some cases, there may be secondary actors
who also benefit (e.g., children are exposed to less second–hand smoke when a parent stops using
cigarettes), but the person making the change nonetheless also receives direct "compensation".
Sexual violence prevention, on the other hand, is unique in that it targets behavioral change in one
individual (men at risk for violence) in order to benefit a different group of people (potential
victims).
Approximately 20% of American women have been sexually assaulted (Koss, 1993). Of these
women, one quarter require medical attention for their injuries (Horton, 1992), which most often
include vaginal tearing and bruising, head injuries and other trauma to the mouth, throat, breasts and
thighs (Banks, Ackerman, & Corbett, 1995; Marchbanks, Lui, and Mercy, 1990). Long–term
consequences include pregnancy, sexually transmitted diseases, dyspareunia, increased incidence of
psychiatric disorders such as post–traumatic stress disorder, and a three–fold increase in suicide
attempts (Fanslow & Robinson, 2004). Immediate medical costs are estimated at $516 per victim;
however, health care utilization increases by 56% annually, and this increase persists for at least

Characterism In Our Twisted Hero, By Yi Munyol
Twisted Hero Essay Terrorism, one of the most twisted causes in the world, is seen as heroic to a
some people. And when considering cultural ways of viewing heros, we generally put them on the
highest pedestals for what they do. They are seen as admirable and an image people strive to be.
But, a twisted hero is not some who is put on that pedestal. They are not admired and look upon as
great. By definition twisted means unpleasantly, or unhealthily abnormal. Also, if you just think
about it, twisted is something grotesque in nature and not desired upon being. Therefore, a twisted
hero is someone who although they use unconventional and undesirable methods to advance a
cause, but by the fruit of their actions they are heroic. When looking at the book Our Twisted Hero,
by Yi Munyol, he presents a number of different characters within a classroom setting to be a
twisted hero. Within the story the twisted hero is the 6th grade teacher, who broke up Om's rule over
the class. He did this by beating the class into submission saying "I wouldn't have laid a hand on you
unless absolutely necessary"(Munyol 95). This shows how the teacher used an unorthodox and harsh
method to produce his results. He explains how he was disappointed in them and how they so easily
gave in. He did the unpopular thing. He stood up to Om and beat that class into submission. This
example ties back into how a twisted hero is not someone desired upon being for being and using
objectionable standards,

My Experience In High School
A sudden adaption of life High School is a place where " if opportunity doesn't knock build a door."
. For many of us, high school is that daunting step where students go from a small fish in a small
pond, to a slightly larger fish in a much bigger pond. It explains that how students start their career
from "a small fish" meaning in the first year they are very new to high school, they have plenty of
new and great things to learn and also many more ways to go through in their life. They will face
some problems, will go through some positive and maybe some bad experiences, and also
understand the importance of study. From these experiences everyday they grasp learning power. As
they go further, they learn many things, which are interesting and beneficial to them with their
career or future. I had to transition from 600 students k–8 to 3,200 students in high school.
These four years of journey makes a student to learn about how to achieve all goals that a student
has made for their bright future. It also makes a student able to see their future and which path they
want to accomplish, also provides knowledge and guides throughout every situation. Talking about
high school, I am wondering how student's first day would be at a new and an inexperience path,
which leads them to a bright future? I think it would be a great experience for many of them but also
not as great for some of them. I had just moved from Gujarat, India, where everything seemed so

surprising. These three individuals came together to create a masterpiece. The three of them ranged
in age, style, and stature. Darin, young and athletic, with an outgoing personality, is the first group
member we will get to read about. Ella, the youngest of the group, is kind hearted, a little sarcastic,
and full of life. Vivacious might be the best way to describe Ella. Nikki, however, is young but not
quite as young as Darin and Ella. Nikki is strong, caring, and passionate. Prepare to look into the

The Cunningic Character Traits Of Odysseus
I think the one heroic character trait that fits Odysseus best is "cunning". There are many stories
from "The Wanderings" that shows just how cunning Odysseus is; from tricking monsters like the
cyclops, to pretending to be a beggar so he could reclaim his kingdom. Some of these stories may
not sound like much but without Odysseus's cunning trait things would have ended up completely
different. If Odysseus didn't have his cunning trait he wouldn't have been able to trick the suitors
into thinking he was a beggar, but because Odysseus is such a cunning hero he is able to have much
more power than others. One great example to show just how cunning Odysseus is, is the story
about the cyclops, who had planned to eat Odysseus and his shipmates. One of the ideas that
Odysseus had to get rid of the cyclops was to have him drink so much wine that he wouldn't be able
to focus and so he could be knocked out. Tricking the cyclops gave Odysseus and his shipmates
another chance to get away from the cyclops. A piece of evidence from the cyclops story that shows
Odysseus's cunning trait is a quote from the story, it says "My moment was at hand, and I went
forward holding an ivy bowl of my dark drink," this quote shows Odysseus's idea of giving the
cyclops the wine so he would be knocked out and so Odysseus could have a better chance at killing
him and getting away. Another very interesting story that showed Odysseus's cunning trait is the
story of "The Cattle of the Sun God." Odysseus

Analyzing The Many Facets We Face
The purpose of this commentary paper is to explain and describe the many facets we face in our
working day. I work for a company that makes aftermarket parts for mining dragline shovels,
extensive cutting spades, parts for railroad rail cars, undercarriages for TRAC type equipment, and
the notorious NASA Space Shuttle program in which we built the shuttle crawler which transported
the Space Shuttle to the launch pad. Our environment is very dynamic and spans across different

Have you ever thought about how companies maintain a working relationship with other countries
working in the same line of business? Let me tell you, that we are not all that different, as we share
rather the same goals and results. A working environment that is motivated by the mining industry is
both dynamic and exciting. Our company is based out of Gillette, Wyoming and has a population of
29,000 people. The resources and availability factors skilled labor and education in the mining
industry with a communication infrastructure. The mining industry follows a code of law which is
strongly influenced by OSHA's rules and regulations, which sometimes are policed by political
processes. Today, many companies if not most, are driven by digital access. We rely on connectivity
to ensure a strong infrastructure, keeping connectivity reliable and consistent supporting a precise

Mcbride's Characters In The Color Of Water By James Mcbride
In the book The Color of Water, the author, James McBride not only takes us through his own
journey, but also gives us a perspective on the life of his mother, Ruth. James' admiration for his
mom reflects throughout the story while showing the readers the growth and development her
character experienced as she went through life. Ruth McBride–Jordan endured many heartbreaking
hardships throughout her life, but nevertheless, had an innumerable amount of cheerful and zestful
moments. She grew to be a remarkable woman; however, it was a long journey before she became
that woman. Separating from her family, and leaving the South was one of the hardest choices she
ever made, yet it was best for her, in order to move on and adjust her future for the better. A main
factor in Ruth's life prosperity was her first husband, Andrew Dennis McBride, who taught her many
important things and, in a sense, changed her entire lifestyle and outlook on the world. The last large
impression that altered her life immensely in a way that led her character to mature, was the death of
her beloved "Dennis". These elements all highlight a point in this woman's life that caused a
development in her personality.
In her younger years, being a part of the Shilsky family was no easy task for Ruth. In those times,
her father, Fishel, was a heartless man with no sense of appreciation or love for his faithful and
obedient Jewish family. In fact, Fishel was so cruel to his three children that Ruth reports having

have continued the practice of naming something they are thankful for every night before dinner.
They look forward to it.
Then one day last week, while driving home during rush hour traffic I heard a story on the radio
about a monk named David Steindl–Rast who believes that gratitude is the key to happiness. He was
quoted as saying, "We all know people who have lots of misfortunes that we ourselves would not
want to have, and they are deeply happy, they radiate happiness," he says. Why are they like this?
"Because they are grateful. It is not happiness that makes us grateful, but gratefulness that makes us
happy."
I had just finished reading a book set in World War I, in which one of the characters was a soldier
who served as an ambulance driver. His job was to drive into the middle of the battlefield, pick up
wounded soldiers, and take them to the army field hospital. In the midst of all the horror, pain, and
death of war, this man tasked himself with finding beauty in the otherwise bleak and dismal
landscape of war. When he found something beautiful, he wrote it down in a notebook he carried.
He had noted a flower struggling to poke through the trampled earth, a soldier's

Persuasive Speech : The Value Of A College Education
College Arc
If there is one rhetoric that every child is taught nowadays is the value of a college education. We
are told it's the only way to guarantee your future, I'm here to tell you it's the truth. College has such
a tremendous value that employers will drop their mouths in awe of your internship and piece of
paper, that you call your degree. They see hundreds of resumes just like yours a year, but you're you,
so diversification is not required to stay competitive. Afterall, It's not like 83% of graduates end up
in a career outside their major. So diversification like traveling the world, learning about the real
world, and studying real–world subjects, isn't necessary to get your foot in the door of your chosen
career path. Why would you want your resume to say world traveler when it could say down and out
graduate.
Although college has a tremendous value, for some of us we see value as a contrived concept, in that
respect going to college just to accumulate thousands of dollars in debt is arbitrary. What these
people don't realize is that 44 million people in the USA have student loan debt, each with an
average debt of $37,172, if you aren't accumulating thousands of dollars of debt you are outside of a
trend, therefore you are a loser. Given this fact why would you ever consider any other possibility
than going to college, graduating, and grinding away at your debt? You might think you are going to
be miserable in college, and that misery breeds failure, but I'm here to tell you that if you don't have
thousands of dollars in debt you will look at your at your friends who do with envy. Yes, you could
travel the world for a year or more, but why would you do something so stupid, reckless, or even
life–changing, when you could be stuck in a job grinding away at unbearable debt. Forget about
passion, that's childish, gather all your friends and jump off the student debt bridge.
I don't believe that it can be denied that college and travel both are great tools for teaching
independence. In college, you learn to do so many things that your mother was already doing for
you. You learn how to do your own laundry, cook your own meals, go to bed and wake up on your
own, and a semblance financial independence.

Narrative Essay About Moving To Canada
As I walked to the parking lot where my mom had arrived to pick me up from school, my sister ran
out of the car, ran towards me and yelled excitedly, "We're going to Canada!" Having grown up in
Kuwait for my whole life of 15 years, I could hardly believe my sister's words. Going to Canada! I
had only been out of the country twice, each time just to vacation and visit family in the Philippines
where both my parents are from. I had always imagined what life would be like outside of Kuwait,
and now it was finally going to be real. My 15–year old self was devastated – We were leaving the
only home I had known for 15 years. It did not take long for my sisters' excitement to die when we
realized that we would be leaving our friends and everything we've ever known and not returning for
a long time. Life in Kuwait for 15 years was comfortable and we were more than financially stable.
Moving to Canada without a job offer in place meant that we would have to start from the beginning
all over again. Goodbyes were hard but my parents encouraged us to see the joys of moving to a
place where we could start over and become accepted citizens of a country. Arriving in Canada, I
experienced the biggest culture shock of my life. Vancouver, BC was cold, wet, and loud. I had
thought adjusting would be relatively easy; I spoke English with a slight accent but I was very shy
that it confused some of the other kids to think I couldn't speak English. I did not understand the
culture, which took a

Question 7. Question : (TCO B) List three organizational factors that can prevent a firm from fully
realizing the benefits of a new information system, and provide examples of each. Student Answer:
You will not be able to design new systems successfully without understanding the culture, politics,
and structure of the organization. Culture is the fundamental set of assumptions, values and ways of
doing things, that is accepted by most at the company. Parts of an org's culture can be found
embedded in their information systems. If this changes and has a negative effect on the overall
culture, much resistance will be found. For example, my employer currently doesn't monitor email
usage, but if they began to do it many would feel untrusted and would resist the change. Politics
within an organization is the head of the conflict line. So many perspectives, conflicts and
compromises are given when it comes to information systems. As people in organizations occupy
different positions at various levels and with different specialties, each has a naturally varied opinion

Ice Pick Scars Research Paper
How to Get Rid of Ice Pick Acne Scars
Most people would have experienced a spot outbreak during their teenage years, desperately trying
to cover up those infuriating blackheads. However the damage caused by a few spots will fade to a
distant memory in late life, whereas unfortunately the damage cause be acne has a tendency to stick
around like a clingy child, and ice pick scars are the clingiest of children. The reason that ice pick
scars are so prominent is because the acne has permeated do a much deeper dermal layer, because
they are so deep many treatment methods don't work and the skin is left looking pitted with an
almost orange peel appearance. Nobody wants their face compared to a fruit and you shouldn't be

The device is referred to as the punch hence the name of the procedure. It works by cutting the
edges of the scar and stitching them back together in an attempt to eradicate the pit, in most cases
this does work although there will be still be scars from the stitching. However this procedure is
now being conducted alongside skin regenerating accelerators so the new scars are smoothed out
quickly.
Skin Grafting
Skin grafting is a seriously impressive surgical technique that can correct all number of skin issues.
You may be most aware of it being used to treat burn victims, however recently it has been used to
help acne sufferers as well. The ice pick scar pits left by acne are filled using the patient's own skin,
mostly the skin is taken from inconspicuous areas such as around the ear. The closer the skin is to
the affected area the better as this will mean it should take less time to blend in.
Laser Resurfacing
Laser resurfacing is another treatment which has taken the cosmetic world by storm in recent years.
While it might be more recognisable as a wrinkle eliminator or a tattoo remover, the use of it to treat
acne sufferers is remarkable. The laser beams essentially destroy the epidermal layer of the skin, this
then allows new skin to generate and fill the pits created from acne

Wedding Reception At A Orthodox Baptism
Over the weekend I had the opportunity to go to a greek orthodox baptism. I am agnostic so outside
of weddings I do not attend religious ceremonies and have never attended a baptism before. I am not
very comfortable in church settings but this is was an important event because it was a close friends
event and I knew is was very important to her.
The event was on sunday so on saturday evening I called the mother of the baby to ask what the
dress code was, if I should bring anything outside the gift and to get a little idea of what to expect.
My friend Breanna mother of Alex who was being baptised told me to dress in a nice cocktail dress
and wear comfortable shoes because there is a lot standing during the ceremony. I was not sure what
to expect but I certainly did not realize that this was an all day event and as lavish as a wedding
reception.
The baptism itself lasted an hour and was so different from anything I had experienced. I knew that
it was a religious service, that the baby would be splashed with water to absolve the original sin but
beyond that everything was new. The priest was really wonderful and before the service began gave
a speech that explained what would happen during the service and what it all symbolically meant so
that those who were unfamiliar (like me) with this process would feel more included or at the very
least at ease. Most of the ceremony was spoken in the greek language but because the priest gave the

Baptized in the Lutheran Church as a baby, religion was always something I had known. Growing
up, my family and I went to church weekly. From the time of being born, to my last year of
elementary school, a semi–contemporary, Lutheran Church was my home. My first year of middle
school, my family decided to switched to a more traditional church. Filled with the smell of senior
citizens and old hymnals, church was no longer enjoyable. My Dad decided to not attend to church
anymore (besides occasional holidays), as my siblings and I were older and he felt as if he did not
need to pretend to advocate church anymore. On the other hand, my other three family members and

God was something I had stored into a box and opened as needed. My prayer life consisted of my
Confirmation class teacher praying and when I really wanted something. I know now that God does
not work that way. My middle school years as a Christian was everything less than desired. Going to
a Christian school, I did not mind God but I did not want to put in the effort of having a relationship
with Him. Christianity was just a bunch of impossible rules to follow and I was just a rebellious

Why People Should Stay In Stillness Research Paper
Let's say, I ask you to sit for 10 minutes in the room without doing anything . Not do anything
physically, not check your phone, not think of things you need to do, not plan. Just be.
There are probably two things that could happen. Either you won't be able to sit still for 10 minutes.
If you can, you will want to know why you need to sit in stillness when you have so many things to
do.
We live in a world where our to–do lists are long and our time and energy are limited. It is then not

without even judging the if their child really needs it. We also do things to keep up with society,

Mandela Effect Speech
I. Introduction
Attention Gainer–( I am going to show pictures of popular brands that make you test your memory,
and ask the audience, "Have you ever seen everyday brands spelled a certain way, and you look at it
again. And it was never as you saw it."
Reason To Listen/Credibility– (Then I will Say) Can you imagine yourself at a store, and looking
through the candy, food, whichever section you are at, and all of a sudden you see that the popular
brand "Febreze" was never spelled "Febreeze", or "Kit Kat" was never spelled with a dash, "Kit–
Kat". It blows your mind, and you can only help, but wonder how can this be. It test your memory
quite a bit and makes you think about how it could've changed from the last time you saw that brand
to the time it was seen differently in the store that day. The explanation to this phenomena would be
"The Mandela Effect." My interest in this topic came to me when I was walking into an H.E.B, and I
saw a Febreze bottle that caught my eye. The Febreze bottle was spelled "Febreze", and I have
always remembered "Febreeze". When I Got home I went straight to my computer and searched up
"Febreze or Febreeze." The first thing that popped up was the Mandela Effect, and ever since then I
have been hooked on this "effect" and its logic. As of right now, I have been looking and searching
for more and more theories of this "effect" for a good amount of time, and I believe with my
research and study I can show what The Mandela Effect is all about.

Twisted Heroes In Our Twisted Hero
Terrorism, one of the most twisted causes in the world, yet it is seen as heroic to some people. When
considering cultural ways of viewing heros, we generally put them on the highest pedestals for what
they do. They are seen as admirable and an image people strive to be. But, a twisted hero is not
someone who is put on that pedestal. They are not admired and look upon as great. By definition
twisted means unpleasantly, or unhealthily abnormal. Also, if you just think about it, twisted is
something grotesque in nature and not desired upon being. Therefore, a twisted hero is someone
who, although they use unconventional and undesirable methods to advance a cause, by the fruit of
their actions they are heroic. When looking at the book Our Twisted Hero, by Yi Munyol, he
presents a number of different characters within a classroom setting to be a twisted hero. Within the
story the twisted hero is the 6th grade teacher, who broke up Om's rule over the class. He did this by
beating the class into submission saying "I wouldn't have laid a hand on you unless absolutely
necessary"(Munyol 95). This shows how the teacher used an unorthodox and harsh method to
produce his results. He explains how he was disappointed in them and how they so easily gave in.
He did the unpopular thing. Like an army does to its adversary he beat that class into submission.
This example ties back into how a twisted hero is not some one desired upon being for being and
using objectionable standards,

Character Analysis Of The Storyteller By Antonia Michaelis
The book I choose to read was The Storyteller by Antonia Michaelis. Anna is a girl who likes to
dream and was quite an innocent child despite being in highschool realty hasn't hit her yet, that was
until she meet Abel also known as the polish peddler. He is a drug dealer and that was who Anna
soon came to love. Throughout this novel there is chaos and love. The main characters who went
through the most character development was Anna becoming strong, Abel becoming unstable, and
Micha losing her innocence. Anna is an innocent teenager. She is able to block out all of the bad and
focus on what matters to her. Even if her best friends do drugs and aren't the best of people she was
still able to dream big and stay out of trouble. "Anna stayed outside. She felt stupid. She wanted to
think about the old sled with the red stripe, but instead she thought "soap bubble." I live in a soap
bubble. The whole school knows things I don't. But maybe I don't want to know them."(Michalis 7)
As the story progressed she began to change. She meet the Abel also known as the polish peddler.
Abel is the definition of a bad guy and with that Anna began to change. Instead of dreaming for
herself she wanted her polish peddler to have a better life. He is the "bad boy" for a reason but that
doesn't mean he is when he gets home. Anna realizes that he has a little sister named Micha. Anna
begins to see things that she shouldn't have and learns new scary facts. While at the same time she is

The Issue of Loss Essay
Elizabeth Bishop's poem "One Art" deals with the issue of "loss." Describing "loss" as an art,
Bishop depicts events, originating with common affairs –such as losing a key. As the poem goes on,
the losses Bishop mentions surely grow in importance. As they gradually become more emotional,
Bishop's idea of loss as easily "mastered" becomes vaguely delusional. In her poem, Elizabeth
Bishop focuses the simple losses in her life in attempts to conceal the true emotion of loss.
From the simplicity of losing a door key to the heartbreak of losing a home or someone dear, Bishop
states and restates that loss isn't difficult to acquire. Loss is, in fact, a commodity in life –things are
lost every day. The loss of a possession is expected, as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
"The art of losing isn't hard to master."
This reoccurring line at first hinted that loss is easily gained. Though, as Bishop's poem progresses,
its meaning shifts into a masquerade, as a mere coping mechanism, that Bishop uses to convince
herself of. Coping with loss morphs into state of denial at this point –similar to situations in which
one promises not to cry, even though they indeed end up crying. By saying "the art of losing isn't
hard to master" she also contrarily prompting that "the art of losing" is genuinely arduous.
In the last two stanzas, Bishop targets more substantial loses, such as cities where she lived (such as
Santos, Brazil, which she inhabited for over a decade), and the loss of a lover. Focusing on the loss
of departing a city, or places with attachment, Bishop forges ahead, aiming to dilute the emotional
pain that follows loss. In the previous stanzas, Bishop has sowed and reaped the hallucinatory
thought that loss can easily be overcome.
"–––Even losing you (the joking voice, a gesture
I love) I shan't have lied. It's evident the art of losing's not too hard to master though it may look like
(Write it!) like disaster."
The last stanza seeps with hidden emotion. By fondly commenting after "you" Bishop,

Takeda's Chem-Barons-Personal Narrative
aito Takeda leaned his elbows upon the lacquered surface of his desk, the thick leather of his gloves
creaking as he steepled his fingers. What had once been heavy slabs of muscle in years gone by had
slowly given way to fat, but he was still a big, intimidating man. His gaze was inscrutable, his eyes
having long been replaced with soulless, reflective black lenses. A pair of heavily augmented
bodyguards stood to either side of him. They were the best money could buy, their bodies having
been turned into brutal chem–tech weapons by the brilliant, albeit deranged, scientist Singed.

limbs in unease. Takeda glanced left and right, trying to discern her location. Nothing. She was
simply gone, vanished completely, as if she had been swallowed by the darkness. "Not bad," he said.
He'd heard of her power, of course, but such things are often over–exaggerated. He was pleased to

and forcibly turned his head to expose his thick neck. Her grasp was ice–cold, as if warm blood no

A Rhetorical Analysis Of Billy Mays
Before his tragic death, Billy Mays was regarded the world over as the consummate pitchman. He
leapt out of televisions all over the world advertising dozens of products with his classic beard, blue
shirt, and khaki pants. In the early 2000s Mays appeared in an ad for shoe inserts called Impact
Gel®. The ad proved to be a major success, and one that put Impact Gel Co. on the map as a
company. As with any advertisement, the goal is clear: sell the product. In this particular case, the
exigence that led to the ad is equally clear: "ankles, knees, and back" aches are everywhere. The ad
skillfully targets middle class Americans who often suffer such aches and therefore identify well
with the ad, and does so to great fanfare and effect. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first second of the ad immediately gets your attention. The reason is simple: the man speaking
isn't speaking, he's screaming. Mr. Mays screams and shouts for the first one and a half minutes of
his two minute commercial. It's all part of his character, the pitch–perfect pitchman persona he takes
on in all of these commercials. Every commercial is the same: he has a beard, shouts a lot, and
wears a blue shirt with khaki pants. The man is energetic, even spastic, but he is consistent. That
consistency lends his product legitimacy. This man, Mr. Mays, is no unprofessional street vendor. If
the salesman is reliably excellent, then his wares must be just as excellent. His actions speak even
louder than his booming words. Watching his body language reveals several key gestures. The one
he repeats over and over resembles a hug. He reaches out with one or both hands, palms open, and
then in one smooth motion pulls his hands back and closes his hands into fists (with a bright smile).
In fact, it doesn't just resemble a hug, it is as close as one gets to hugging through a television
screen. As silly as it sounds, standing in front of a camera pretending to hug empty space makes
Mays seem much friendlier, and people listen to friends. It is just another way for Mays to make
himself seem like one of his audience, or said another way it gets his audience to identify with him.

Essay Similarities Between Night And The Book Night
Introduction Imagine that your family is uprooted from where they have been living for your whole
life, and are moved to a small space with 50 other people surrounded by death, suffering, disease
and starvation. This scenario was very real in both the novel Night and the movie "Life is beautiful".
Furthermore, these two stories from the holocaust are similar and different in many ways. They are
both from the same point of view which is from the son, the development of Elie and Joshua
throughout the story, the characterization of the father, and God's provisions in there lives while they
were in the concentration camp. Although, there are many things that are alike in both of these
stories, there are many things that are different. Which consist of the mood of sadness, the fathers
different ways of showing love, and how God protected them both but in different ways. In the

fell into a good Kommando"..." (Wiesel, pg. 50). This is just one of the many ways how God
showed his grace toward Elie in his time or need and how he provided for him and his father
throughout this suffering. In addition to Elie getting provisions from God, Joshua did also. Joshua
was provided with the provision of hating to take showers. As the boy in the movie is portrayed, he
hates to take showers. Furthermore, because he hates to take showers he does not go into the
showers with the other boys, thus, saving his life (Gray, 2000). These provisions from God are

The Many Facets Of Policing
The Many Facets of Policing in America
Ashley Robinson
Southern New Hampshire University
Abstract
For the final project for this American Policing course I've created a research paper on Policing in
America. Throughout the contents of this paper I have identified whether the current policing
philosophies have a positive or negative impact on the communities and how I've arrived at this
conclusion. I have provided this critical assessment and recommendation based on text readings,
scholarly research, and personal experience, in and out of the bonds of this course.
The main elements of this piece are as follows:
1. History of policing in America
2. The evolution of policing in America
3. The civil rights era of policing
4. Community policing
5. Modern police tactics and philosophies
The History and Evolution of Policing in America
Every aspect of modern society grew into what we know now as civilized. The American Police
organization history and evolution can be explained by detailing the 3 eras of American policing.
The Political Era, the Reform Era and the Community Integration Era.
The political Era of American policing
1840–1930
The political Era, or the "good ol boy" era of American Policing was established in 1840, long after
the establishment of the 1st watch system in Boston Massachusetts in 1631, This Era implemented,
authorized and funded by the local elected political officials, the early policing concept frequently
struggled with the need to be unified and

Much Ado About Nothing Essay: Many Facets of Love Explored
Many Facets of Love Explored in Much Ado About Nothing
In Shakespeare's romantic comedy Much Ado About Nothing, Shakespeare focuses a great deal of
time to the ideas of young, lustful, and intellectual love. Claudio and Hero, Borachio and Margaret,
and Benedick and Beatrice, respectively, each represent one of the basic aspects of love.
Shakespeare is careful to point out that not one path is better than another. The paths are merely
different, and all end happily. Shakespeare also explores the different aspects of courtship,

Hero's father, Leonato, is the rich mayor of the town and his house appears to be the center of it.
Don Pedro starts the ball rolling when he encourages Claudio to ask Hero to marry him: "I will but
teach them to sing and restore them to the owner" (II. i. 222).
Don Pedro continues on to orchestrate the paring up of Claudio and Hero: "Here, Claudio, I have
wooed in thy name, and fair Hero is won" (II. i. 284). All seems to be going perfect until Don John
introduces his plot to disgrace Hero with an onerous plot that will break the marriage and make a
fool of Claudio: "Grow this to what adverse issue it can, I will put in practice" (II. iii. 49). When the
marriage does come around, Claudio and Don Pedro are convinced that Hero is cheating on Claudio.
Claudio blatantly confronts Hero about it and accuses her of adultery in front of the entire wedding
procession. Hero, knowing that she did not do such a deed, and the rest of her family decide to make
Claudio pay by making him believe that Hero died over the grief he caused her. During this period,
Dogberry, the constable, finds Borachio and tells Leonato what has transpired. The conceptual
wedding starts out perfectly but slowly, through treachery and deception, tumbles down in status
until the original wedding is the biggest blunder of the play.
The crudest relationship in Much Ado About Nothing is

My Personal Experience : My Experiences And Aspects Of My...
When you meet a young teen, you don't expect them to have such huge responsibilities. There are
people that go through situations at such young age that may not be because of their own actions,
but because of someone else's. This is somehow seen as an example of a secondary victim. My sister
and I are a good example of that. I was 13 years old when I first met my brother's girlfriend at my
younger sister's birthday party, who by surprise, was expecting already. My family and I were in
shock, and of course that was his big way of dropping the bomb. As a young guy from a very
religious family this was bad and seen as a big disappointment towards my family. Once I saw her
stomach and realized she was expecting, everything changed, my life, my childhood. As soon as my
brother, Joe, brought her to move in to the house, she automatically became another member of the
family, whether we liked her or not. She was not who we expected her to be. Joe started having
problems with his lady and led him to desire to run away from her and move to another state. He left
5 months before the baby, Anthony, was born and still until today he lives in another state.
Meanwhile then, the rest of the family interacted with her and tried to make her feel as comfortable
as we could even though we did not like her, especially my sister and I. There were times where
things got real awkward because of our differences but somehow my mother always found a way to
break the ice. Through so many problems

Comparison Of Mariam In A Thousand Splendid Suns

  • 1. Comparison Of Mariam In A Thousand Splendid Suns In the story "A Thousand Splendid Suns", we follow the life of two different girls, Mariam and Laila. They both lead two very different lives that spiral into two entirely different directions. They had different education, different influences throughout their lives, and One important difference between the two girls lives is their education. In the book, education is a big theme in this story, especially surrounding these two characters. Thanks to the soviets, Laila was able to go to a school and learn, something that was only privileged for men and boys. Mariam on the other hand, was poor and considered illegitimate and not able to attend school like she wanted. In the book, Laila states "Babi had made it clear to Laila from a young age that the most important thing in his life, after safety, was her schooling." Laila's father, Babi, had always valued education. He had made sure Laila got the most out of her chance at education while she could before it was taken from her. After all, he had firmly believed that women could and should do what man can do as well. Mariam's mother, Nana, never allowed her to go to school or bothered educating her. She said how horrible school was and how learning was a waste of time. Though Mariam didn't see it this way, this was her mother's way of protecting her from having the same bad experiences as she had. Her intentions were good, but this only drove Mariam further away from her. Another important difference between the two girls ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Teacher Reflection Lead Teacher Reflection #2 1. What went well today? Provide 3 specific examples of children's actions/comments that occurred during self–selected activities. What evidence do you have for your conclusion? DO NOT use the words, "loved, liked, enjoyed;" rather describe the evidence of children's reactions to the learning experience. Today we went on a field trip to the gardens and it went really well. The children ran, jumped, screamed, and explored all throughout the gardens. I was so happy we all had the chance to enjoy nature! At the beginning of the day several children and I climbed up some rocks. One child exclaimed, "I am jumping on the rocks!" Another child fell, but quickly got up and said, "I am fine!" As the children were climbing the rocks they took it slow. A few seemed a little hesitated to climb the rocks because it was very unstable, but all of the children I was with, climbed to the top of the rocky hill! After snack time a child wanted me to wrap him up in the blanket we had out to sit on. He pretended he was a caterpillar and I wrapped him up in a cocoon. Then once he was wrapped up in the blanket he said he was eating a lot of food and then he squirmed out of the blanket and started flapping his wings, he said, "look I am a butterfly!" At another point in the day I was by water with two children and we had sticks and we were fishing in the water. The children exclaimed that they were trying to catch all the trash in the water, which consisted ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Language in Jamaica Kincaid's Autobiography of My Mother... Use of Language in The Autobiography of My Mother Language. It is the way words flow into sentences, which flow into paragraphs, which flow into novels. It is the ability of the author to create an intricate web of plot, emotion, symbolism, and relationships through only words. In The Autobiography of My Mother , Jamaica Kincaid uses language in a way that is very simplistic, yet highly effective. Her writing is direct and to the point. There is neither flowery wording not complex sentence structure. Without the distractions of overflowing language, the depth of Kincaid's material comes through with particular effectiveness. It is the simplest of writing elements, that of repetition and opposition, that Kincaid uses to create a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Xuela is seen as she wants to be seen. There is no objectivity. The only way the reader comes to know and understand Xuela is through her own words and her descriptions of the world around her (Schine 5). Another distinctive aspect of Kincaid's writing is the author's relentless use of repetition. It is hard to find even a single page of the novel that is not deeply woven with repetition. The phrases "I know" and "I did not know" constantly resonate throughout the novel. As Xuela comments on her father, "That I was a burden to him, I know; that he did not know how to take care of me by himself, or how to clean his own clothes himself, I know" (Kincaid 4). Xuela defines herself by what it is that she knows and what it is she does not know. For her, there is no median. Xuela says she "would rather be all dead or all alive, but never half of one and half of the other" (106). Those around her are either kind or unkind; they are native, or they are foreign; they are sensual, or they are repulsive. It is one way, or the other. There is no "gray" area. Kincaid uses the repetition to emphasize this polarizing characteristic of Xuela. However, it is the things that Xuela does not know that are truly definitive of her nature. She comments: At that moment there were so many things I did not know, not including the big thing I did not know, my mother. I did not know my father; I did not know where he was from or whom or what he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Personal Statement : Pharmacy Tech I feel like as humans we tend to make a routine for ourselves and before we know it we cannot go beyond it. The effort to learn something or do something different becomes tiresome. Our lives are conditioned to be a routine; eat, sleep, go to school (college now) and most dreadful of all, learn. It is not come as a surprised as when school is over we come home and toss our book bags anywhere, but, near. We do not want to be reminded of learning (until the next morning). So, for me my life became a sort of routine and I was totally fine with that. I was okay with my typical boring high school life with seeing the same friends and teachers and doing basically the same thing everyday. Apparently, a certain someone had a different idea in mind for me. I have always wanted to pursue nursing and my school did not have a class dedicated entirely to nursing, so I thought of the next best thing...pharmacy tech? Little did I know, the teacher, Mr. Williams who teaches the class is a total nutcase (in a good way) and he was definitely passionate about his profession. He was a tall man that always had a goofy expression on his face, seems harmless, but he was a tough nut to crack. He was a great teacher, but he had a way of getting students out of their shell, and I was at the time very comfortable in my little turtle shell. So, I did my atypical routine and just did what I had too, nothing more or any less. Mr. Williams was the type of teacher who liked to pick on students and put them ... • 9. West Point 's Character Development Essay West Point is a place in which the development of one's self and one's character is among its top priorities. So much so that there is an article titled West Point's Character Development Strategy which outlines the way in which West Point aims to achieve this development. In one of this document's first few pages it states that, "Every team, club, department, and directorate has an overarching responsibility to build character or facilitate character development in each individual throughout the course of the 47–month cadet experience." By making this statement, the administration at West Point truly drives home how invested they are in the character development of each individual cadet throughout their time at the academy in all facets of West Point life. To do this, West Point narrowed the focus of the broad topic of character development on the individual level down into five key facets; Moral, Performance, Civic, Leadership, and Social. Through my time at the academy, I can truthfully say that the focus on my individual character development was a priority and did fall in line with the five facets stated above. Throughout this development, it was made blatantly obvious that I have some flaws and some strengths in my character. Of both areas, it is easily discernable that my strongest facet is Leadership, while my weakest being Social. Despite some flaws within their design, I was able to determine these strengths and weaknesses using the systems that West Point has ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. The Need For Classification By Brian C. Vickery In The Need for Classification the author Vickery (1975) introduces us to faceted classification and gives his argument for the need for this classification. The author of the article Brian C. Vickery was a librarian, academic and member of the Classification Research Group which was responsible for a substantial amount of the work we have on faceted classification (Broughtan, 2015, p.301–302). Vickery shows that the importance of classificcaiton cannot be denied as "Classification enables us to select, from a whole universe of known entities, the one that best matches one newly encountered" (Vickery, 1975, p.3).The chapter focuses on explaining classification and its feature, illustrating the need for it in information retrieval and addresses some complications with the different methods. ... Vickery illustrates this with a diagram of an inverted tree (1975, p.1), the tree representing the field of study with branches for different facets, twigs on each branch for different hierarchies. This way like entities are grouped closer together than other entities in a particular fields. Taxonomic classification seeks "to arrange all entities . . . into a single hierarchy" (Vickery, 1975, pg. 10). Vickery contrasts taxonomy with subject classification which allows for an entity to occupy more than one hierarchy (1975, p.9). • 13. Essay about Cinema and Religion Cinema and Religion Entertainment media are contributing to the emergence of new and novel forms of spiritual and religious phenomena in our contemporary (and past) culture. The essays in this issue explore diverse facets of the morphing relationship between entertainment, spirituality and culture. Over the last century, the cinema has played a vital role in the expression and representation of Judeo–Christian religious practices and beliefs. Early cinema told the life of Christ in the Passion Play and Cecil B DeMille produced two spectacular versions of The Ten Commandments in 1923 and 1956. While cinema represented religious themes and figures, religious institutions also shaped the emergence of this moving image technology and its ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In our Post–Millennial era the Heavens are the home for satellites rather than angels and the New Age emphasis upon the paranormal and extraterrestrial as alternative avenues for spiritual expression and self–transformation melds with the prevalent sense of an impending apocalypse that was reactivated by the spectacular disappearance of the Twin Towers on our television screens on 9– 11, 2001. Where once God may have been a singular entity that designed the world in seven days, the multi–dimensional relationship between new and existing media technologies now activates multiple worlds and multiple entities. The God/s of the Multi–verse take many and multifarious forms from Elvis to Lara Croft and the signs of the Heaven or Hell emerge in the shopping mall, the television screen, the web site and the comic book panel. Our media heroes are worshipped and our creations come to life. The task of media research and theory is to articulate how these Post–Millennial forms of religiosity – how the uncanny spaces and the gods in the multiverse – are shaped by the media. How are these spaces of dread or icons of worship articulated? This issue provides a collection of original research and writing on entertainment forms – past and present. It presents an interdisciplinary focus by collating material from historians, theorists, philosophers and practitioners involved in the study and teaching of art, cinema, literature and new media. First, based on my observations with individuals that are currently operating in the quick service food area is that they are seeing evolution 's in technology that are having as much of an impact on the business today as drive–throughs did when they were introduced in the 60 's and 70 's. For example, When we sold our first ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was in New Hampshire and I purchased a 2 acre piece of property there and built a beautiful 4,500 square foot Burger King with a NASCAR theme and it had a gorgeous fountain in the front. It also had a playground and it was not a big outlet. If I were still operating and building Burger Kings today I would not build something that big because there is no need for it. I would buy a piece of land that is probably a quarter of the size, maybe a half acre. The restaurant outlet would be 2,000– 2,200 square feet. It would have about 20 seats in it. It would only have about 20–25 seats in it but, it would have a super high efficiency kitchen and I would be pushing as many sales as I possibly could through the drive–through and the returns on that sort of an operation would be phenomenal. You could take that as old technology and how it can be applied to things today. Now, if we fast forward to 2015 talked about the impact of technology and how it is affecting the "normal" for the quick service industry. Right now it is all about the app. Companies like Panera Bread and Star Bucks whom are pushing the use of their app. Say you are someone who wants the Pick Two from Panera Bread and you do not want to wait in line. You can pay for it and order it on the Panera Bread app. The app tells you when it will be ready and then you go to the store and there it is sitting there ready for you. • 23. The Many Facets of Sexual Assault Essay A model of sexual violence risk proposed by Abbey, McAuslan, and Ross (1998) posits a central role for sexual misperception (i.e., perception of sexual interest or sexual attraction in a potential partner when that partner has not intended to communicate interest). Normatively it has been well documented that male college students perceive more female sexual interest than was intended to be conveyed. Whether viewing still images, video, or live interactions, men tend to perceive women as displaying more sexual interest than women view the female actor displaying and more sexual interest than the female actor intended to display (Abbey, 1982; Abbey & Harnish, 1995; Edmonson & Conger, 1995; Saal, Johnson, & Weber, 1989; Shotland & Craig, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A man who implements an exercise program receives the cardiac benefit (Choo et al., 2010); a woman who regularly uses barrier methods during sexual intercourse is rewarded with a reduced probability of HIV infection (Davis & Weller, 1999). In some cases, there may be secondary actors who also benefit (e.g., children are exposed to less second–hand smoke when a parent stops using cigarettes), but the person making the change nonetheless also receives direct "compensation". Sexual violence prevention, on the other hand, is unique in that it targets behavioral change in one individual (men at risk for violence) in order to benefit a different group of people (potential victims). Approximately 20% of American women have been sexually assaulted (Koss, 1993). Of these women, one quarter require medical attention for their injuries (Horton, 1992), which most often include vaginal tearing and bruising, head injuries and other trauma to the mouth, throat, breasts and thighs (Banks, Ackerman, & Corbett, 1995; Marchbanks, Lui, and Mercy, 1990). Long–term consequences include pregnancy, sexually transmitted diseases, dyspareunia, increased incidence of psychiatric disorders such as post–traumatic stress disorder, and a three–fold increase in suicide attempts (Fanslow & Robinson, 2004). Immediate medical costs are estimated at $516 per victim; however, health care utilization increases by 56% annually, and this increase persists for at least three years ... • 25. Characterism In Our Twisted Hero, By Yi Munyol Twisted Hero Essay Terrorism, one of the most twisted causes in the world, is seen as heroic to a some people. And when considering cultural ways of viewing heros, we generally put them on the highest pedestals for what they do. They are seen as admirable and an image people strive to be. But, a twisted hero is not some who is put on that pedestal. They are not admired and look upon as great. By definition twisted means unpleasantly, or unhealthily abnormal. Also, if you just think about it, twisted is something grotesque in nature and not desired upon being. Therefore, a twisted hero is someone who although they use unconventional and undesirable methods to advance a cause, but by the fruit of their actions they are heroic. When looking at the book Our Twisted Hero, by Yi Munyol, he presents a number of different characters within a classroom setting to be a twisted hero. Within the story the twisted hero is the 6th grade teacher, who broke up Om's rule over the class. He did this by beating the class into submission saying "I wouldn't have laid a hand on you unless absolutely necessary"(Munyol 95). This shows how the teacher used an unorthodox and harsh method to produce his results. He explains how he was disappointed in them and how they so easily gave in. He did the unpopular thing. He stood up to Om and beat that class into submission. This example ties back into how a twisted hero is not someone desired upon being for being and using objectionable standards, ... For many of us, high school is that daunting step where students go from a small fish in a small pond, to a slightly larger fish in a much bigger pond. It explains that how students start their career from "a small fish" meaning in the first year they are very new to high school, they have plenty of new and great things to learn and also many more ways to go through in their life. They will face some problems, will go through some positive and maybe some bad experiences, and also understand the importance of study. From these experiences everyday they grasp learning power. As they go further, they learn many things, which are interesting and beneficial to them with their career or future. I had to transition from 600 students k–8 to 3,200 students in high school. These four years of journey makes a student to learn about how to achieve all goals that a student has made for their bright future. It also makes a student able to see their future and which path they want to accomplish, also provides knowledge and guides throughout every situation. Talking about high school, I am wondering how student's first day would be at a new and an inexperience path, which leads them to a bright future? The essay was simple. Get to know one another and write an essay about yourselves. The task allowed them to get to know one another inside and outside of the classroom. Getting to know each other creates tolerance of all diverse types of people and their respective backgrounds, possibly even lifelong friendships. Every group coming together to see they are more alike than they perceived. One of these four groups consisted of Darin, Ella, and Nikki. The three of them began talking. Many of the things they discovered were surprising. These three individuals came together to create a masterpiece. The three of them ranged in age, style, and stature. Darin, young and athletic, with an outgoing personality, is the first group member we will get to read about. Ella, the youngest of the group, is kind hearted, a little sarcastic, and full of life. Vivacious might be the best way to describe Ella. Nikki, however, is young but not quite as young as Darin and Ella. Nikki is strong, caring, and passionate. Prepare to look into the lives of Darin, Ella, and Nikki, possibly even step into someone else's shoes for a moment. • 31. The Cunningic Character Traits Of Odysseus I think the one heroic character trait that fits Odysseus best is "cunning". There are many stories from "The Wanderings" that shows just how cunning Odysseus is; from tricking monsters like the cyclops, to pretending to be a beggar so he could reclaim his kingdom. Some of these stories may not sound like much but without Odysseus's cunning trait things would have ended up completely different. If Odysseus didn't have his cunning trait he wouldn't have been able to trick the suitors into thinking he was a beggar, but because Odysseus is such a cunning hero he is able to have much more power than others. One great example to show just how cunning Odysseus is, is the story about the cyclops, who had planned to eat Odysseus and his shipmates. One of the ideas that Odysseus had to get rid of the cyclops was to have him drink so much wine that he wouldn't be able to focus and so he could be knocked out. Tricking the cyclops gave Odysseus and his shipmates another chance to get away from the cyclops. A piece of evidence from the cyclops story that shows Odysseus's cunning trait is a quote from the story, it says "My moment was at hand, and I went forward holding an ivy bowl of my dark drink," this quote shows Odysseus's idea of giving the cyclops the wine so he would be knocked out and so Odysseus could have a better chance at killing him and getting away. Another very interesting story that showed Odysseus's cunning trait is the story of "The Cattle of the Sun God." Odysseus ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 35. Mcbride's Characters In The Color Of Water By James Mcbride In the book The Color of Water, the author, James McBride not only takes us through his own journey, but also gives us a perspective on the life of his mother, Ruth. James' admiration for his mom reflects throughout the story while showing the readers the growth and development her character experienced as she went through life. Ruth McBride–Jordan endured many heartbreaking hardships throughout her life, but nevertheless, had an innumerable amount of cheerful and zestful moments. She grew to be a remarkable woman; however, it was a long journey before she became that woman. Separating from her family, and leaving the South was one of the hardest choices she ever made, yet it was best for her, in order to move on and adjust her future for the better. A main factor in Ruth's life prosperity was her first husband, Andrew Dennis McBride, who taught her many important things and, in a sense, changed her entire lifestyle and outlook on the world. The last large impression that altered her life immensely in a way that led her character to mature, was the death of her beloved "Dennis". These elements all highlight a point in this woman's life that caused a development in her personality. In her younger years, being a part of the Shilsky family was no easy task for Ruth. In those times, her father, Fishel, was a heartless man with no sense of appreciation or love for his faithful and obedient Jewish family. In fact, Fishel was so cruel to his three children that Ruth reports having ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 39. Too Much Thankfulness I've been hearing a lot about this thankfulness thing. I can't get away from it. It started with Thanksgiving. Before digging in to a big Thanksgiving feast at my daughter's house, we all took turns saying something for which we were thankful. My grandkids loved the idea so much, that they have continued the practice of naming something they are thankful for every night before dinner. They look forward to it. Then one day last week, while driving home during rush hour traffic I heard a story on the radio about a monk named David Steindl–Rast who believes that gratitude is the key to happiness. He was quoted as saying, "We all know people who have lots of misfortunes that we ourselves would not want to have, and they are deeply happy, they radiate happiness," he says. Why are they like this? "Because they are grateful. It is not happiness that makes us grateful, but gratefulness that makes us happy." I had just finished reading a book set in World War I, in which one of the characters was a soldier who served as an ambulance driver. His job was to drive into the middle of the battlefield, pick up wounded soldiers, and take them to the army field hospital. In the midst of all the horror, pain, and death of war, this man tasked himself with finding beauty in the otherwise bleak and dismal landscape of war. • 41. Persuasive Speech : The Value Of A College Education College Arc If there is one rhetoric that every child is taught nowadays is the value of a college education. We are told it's the only way to guarantee your future, I'm here to tell you it's the truth. College has such a tremendous value that employers will drop their mouths in awe of your internship and piece of paper, that you call your degree. They see hundreds of resumes just like yours a year, but you're you, so diversification is not required to stay competitive. Afterall, It's not like 83% of graduates end up in a career outside their major. So diversification like traveling the world, learning about the real world, and studying real–world subjects, isn't necessary to get your foot in the door of your chosen career path. Why would you want your resume to say world traveler when it could say down and out graduate. Although college has a tremendous value, for some of us we see value as a contrived concept, in that respect going to college just to accumulate thousands of dollars in debt is arbitrary. What these people don't realize is that 44 million people in the USA have student loan debt, each with an average debt of $37,172, if you aren't accumulating thousands of dollars of debt you are outside of a trend, therefore you are a loser. Given this fact why would you ever consider any other possibility than going to college, graduating, and grinding away at your debt? You might think you are going to be miserable in college, and that misery breeds failure, but I'm here to tell you that if you don't have thousands of dollars in debt you will look at your at your friends who do with envy. Yes, you could travel the world for a year or more, but why would you do something so stupid, reckless, or even life–changing, when you could be stuck in a job grinding away at unbearable debt. Forget about passion, that's childish, gather all your friends and jump off the student debt bridge. I don't believe that it can be denied that college and travel both are great tools for teaching independence. In college, you learn to do so many things that your mother was already doing for you. You learn how to do your own laundry, cook your own meals, go to bed and wake up on your own, and a semblance financial independence. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Narrative Essay About Moving To Canada As I walked to the parking lot where my mom had arrived to pick me up from school, my sister ran out of the car, ran towards me and yelled excitedly, "We're going to Canada!" Having grown up in Kuwait for my whole life of 15 years, I could hardly believe my sister's words. Going to Canada! I had only been out of the country twice, each time just to vacation and visit family in the Philippines where both my parents are from. Arriving in Canada, I experienced the biggest culture shock of my life. Vancouver, BC was cold, wet, and loud. I am agnostic so outside of weddings I do not attend religious ceremonies and have never attended a baptism before. I am not very comfortable in church settings but this is was an important event because it was a close friends event and I knew is was very important to her. The event was on sunday so on saturday evening I called the mother of the baby to ask what the dress code was, if I should bring anything outside the gift and to get a little idea of what to expect. My friend Breanna mother of Alex who was being baptised told me to dress in a nice cocktail dress and wear comfortable shoes because there is a lot standing during the ceremony. I was not sure what to expect but I certainly did not realize that this was an all day event and as lavish as a wedding reception. The baptism itself lasted an hour and was so different from anything I had experienced. I knew that it was a religious service, that the baby would be splashed with water to absolve the original sin but beyond that everything was new. The priest was really wonderful and before the service began gave a speech that explained what would happen during the service and what it all symbolically meant so that those who were unfamiliar (like me) with this process would feel more included or at the very least at ease. From the time of being born, to my last year of elementary school, a semi–contemporary, Lutheran Church was my home. • 55. Why People Should Stay In Stillness Research Paper Let's say, I ask you to sit for 10 minutes in the room without doing anything . Not do anything physically, not check your phone, not think of things you need to do, not plan. Just be. There are probably two things that could happen. Either you won't be able to sit still for 10 minutes. If you can, you will want to know why you need to sit in stillness when you have so many things to do. We live in a world where our to–do lists are long and our time and energy are limited. It is then not surprising then that we are surrounded by people who feel that they are constantly running against the clock. Keeping busy. Trying to get more done. And constantly struggling to do so. Sometimes when we see others around us do something we start to believe we need to do it too. Because it is the right thing or the "in" thing, or the appropriate thing to do. I know of parents who cram their child's day with so many extracurricular activities because they believe it is important without even judging the if their child really needs it. We also do things to keep up with society, friends, and family even if it involves doing things that hold no meaning for us or give us any satisfaction. We refuse to prioritize, let go and accept things and mostly live off others beliefs of what we need/want. Success and busyness can be the tortoise and hare story Contrary to what most people believe being busy is not the same as being an achiever. Yes, some achievers are busy people but they are focussed on doing only things that are a priority. Long term success is also strongly linked to being able to think clearly and deeply about your plans and ideas. Its not enough to be busy, so are the ants. • 57. Personal Narrative: My First College-Level Communication... As the semester comes to a close, my mind goes back to where I started. There are so many things I have learned and so many opportunities I was able to take advantage of. I am very thankful for these experiences and the many people I have had the privilege to meet during this semester. Though some of this learning was related to the courses I was taking, some of the learning was discovering things about myself. Someone once said "You will never always be motivated. You have to learn to be disciplined," and, this semester, I found this to be true. When the initial excitement of being a college student began to fade away, the work did not. Learning is definitely not something to take for granted, but it is still work–sometimes really hard work. There were nights I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Through this course, I am hoping to become a more effective communicator and to gain valuable experience that will help me in my future career. Introduction Attention Gainer–( I am going to show pictures of popular brands that make you test your memory, and ask the audience, "Have you ever seen everyday brands spelled a certain way, and you look at it again. And it was never as you saw it." Reason To Listen/Credibility– (Then I will Say) Can you imagine yourself at a store, and looking through the candy, food, whichever section you are at, and all of a sudden you see that the popular brand "Febreze" was never spelled "Febreeze", or "Kit Kat" was never spelled with a dash, "Kit– Kat". It blows your mind, and you can only help, but wonder how can this be. It test your memory quite a bit and makes you think about how it could've changed from the last time you saw that brand to the time it was seen differently in the store that day. The explanation to this phenomena would be "The Mandela Effect." My interest in this topic came to me when I was walking into an H.E.B, and I saw a Febreze bottle that caught my eye. The Febreze bottle was spelled "Febreze", and I have always remembered "Febreeze". When I Got home I went straight to my computer and searched up "Febreze or Febreeze." The first thing that popped up was the Mandela Effect, and ever since then I have been hooked on this "effect" and its logic. As of right now, I have been looking and searching for more and more theories of this "effect" for a good amount of time, and I believe with my research and study I can show what The Mandela Effect is all about. • 61. Twisted Heroes In Our Twisted Hero Terrorism, one of the most twisted causes in the world, yet it is seen as heroic to some people. When considering cultural ways of viewing heros, we generally put them on the highest pedestals for what they do. They are seen as admirable and an image people strive to be. But, a twisted hero is not someone who is put on that pedestal. They are not admired and look upon as great. By definition twisted means unpleasantly, or unhealthily abnormal. Also, if you just think about it, twisted is something grotesque in nature and not desired upon being. Therefore, a twisted hero is someone who, although they use unconventional and undesirable methods to advance a cause, by the fruit of their actions they are heroic. Like an army does to its adversary he beat that class into submission. This example ties back into how a twisted hero is not some one desired upon being for being and using objectionable standards, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Anna is a girl who likes to dream and was quite an innocent child despite being in highschool realty hasn't hit her yet, that was until she meet Abel also known as the polish peddler. He is a drug dealer and that was who Anna soon came to love. Throughout this novel there is chaos and love. The main characters who went through the most character development was Anna becoming strong, Abel becoming unstable, and Micha losing her innocence. Anna is an innocent teenager. She is able to block out all of the bad and focus on what matters to her. Even if her best friends do drugs and aren't the best of people she was still able to dream big and stay out of trouble. "Anna stayed outside. She felt stupid. She wanted to think about the old sled with the red stripe, but instead she thought "soap bubble." I live in a soap bubble. The whole school knows things I don't. But maybe I don't want to know them."(Michalis 7) As the story progressed she began to change. She meet the Abel also known as the polish peddler. Abel is the definition of a bad guy and with that Anna began to change. Instead of dreaming for herself she wanted her polish peddler to have a better life. • 65. The Issue of Loss Essay Elizabeth Bishop's poem "One Art" deals with the issue of "loss." Describing "loss" as an art, Bishop depicts events, originating with common affairs –such as losing a key. As the poem goes on, the losses Bishop mentions surely grow in importance. As they gradually become more emotional, Bishop's idea of loss as easily "mastered" becomes vaguely delusional. In her poem, Elizabeth Bishop focuses the simple losses in her life in attempts to conceal the true emotion of loss. From the simplicity of losing a door key to the heartbreak of losing a home or someone dear, Bishop states and restates that loss isn't difficult to acquire. Loss is, in fact, a commodity in life –things are lost every day. The loss of a possession is expected, as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... "The art of losing isn't hard to master." This reoccurring line at first hinted that loss is easily gained. Though, as Bishop's poem progresses, its meaning shifts into a masquerade, as a mere coping mechanism, that Bishop uses to convince herself of. Coping with loss morphs into state of denial at this point –similar to situations in which one promises not to cry, even though they indeed end up crying. By saying "the art of losing isn't hard to master" she also contrarily prompting that "the art of losing" is genuinely arduous. In the last two stanzas, Bishop targets more substantial loses, such as cities where she lived (such as Santos, Brazil, which she inhabited for over a decade), and the loss of a lover. Focusing on the loss of departing a city, or places with attachment, Bishop forges ahead, aiming to dilute the emotional pain that follows loss. In the previous stanzas, Bishop has sowed and reaped the hallucinatory thought that loss can easily be overcome. "–––Even losing you (the joking voice, a gesture I love) I shan't have lied. It's evident the art of losing's not too hard to master though it may look like (Write it!) like disaster." The last stanza seeps with hidden emotion. By fondly commenting after "you" Bishop, ... What had once been heavy slabs of muscle in years gone by had slowly given way to fat, but he was still a big, intimidating man. His gaze was inscrutable, his eyes having long been replaced with soulless, reflective black lenses. A pair of heavily augmented bodyguards stood to either side of him. They were the best money could buy, their bodies having been turned into brutal chem–tech weapons by the brilliant, albeit deranged, scientist Singed. Takeda's inherent violence and ambition had seen him rise from humble beginnings to become one of Zaun's most powerful chem–barons, the infamous rulers of the undercity. ... Takeda's bodyguards tensed, flexing their piston–strengthened limbs in unease. Takeda glanced left and right, trying to discern her location. Nothing. She was simply gone, vanished completely, as if she had been swallowed by the darkness. "Not bad," he said. He'd heard of her power, of course, but such things are often over–exaggerated. He was pleased to see that in this case, the rumors were true. Taloned hands grabbed him from behind, blood red nails digging into his flesh as Evelynn emerged from the shadows. She was far stronger than she looked, and forcibly turned his head to expose his thick neck. Her grasp was ice–cold, as if warm blood no longer flowed in her veins, and her fangs were inches from his jugular. • 69. A Rhetorical Analysis Of Billy Mays Before his tragic death, Billy Mays was regarded the world over as the consummate pitchman. He leapt out of televisions all over the world advertising dozens of products with his classic beard, blue shirt, and khaki pants. In the early 2000s Mays appeared in an ad for shoe inserts called Impact Gel®. The ad proved to be a major success, and one that put Impact Gel Co. on the map as a company. As with any advertisement, the goal is clear: sell the product. In this particular case, the exigence that led to the ad is equally clear: "ankles, knees, and back" aches are everywhere. The ad skillfully targets middle class Americans who often suffer such aches and therefore identify well with the ad, and does so to great fanfare and effect. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first second of the ad immediately gets your attention. The reason is simple: the man speaking isn't speaking, he's screaming. Mr. Mays screams and shouts for the first one and a half minutes of his two minute commercial. It's all part of his character, the pitch–perfect pitchman persona he takes on in all of these commercials. Every commercial is the same: he has a beard, shouts a lot, and wears a blue shirt with khaki pants. The man is energetic, even spastic, but he is consistent. That consistency lends his product legitimacy. This man, Mr. Mays, is no unprofessional street vendor. If the salesman is reliably excellent, then his wares must be just as excellent. His actions speak even louder than his booming words. Watching his body language reveals several key gestures. The one he repeats over and over resembles a hug. He reaches out with one or both hands, palms open, and then in one smooth motion pulls his hands back and closes his hands into fists (with a bright smile). In fact, it doesn't just resemble a hug, it is as close as one gets to hugging through a television screen. As silly as it sounds, standing in front of a camera pretending to hug empty space makes Mays seem much friendlier, and people listen to friends. It is just another way for Mays to make himself seem like one of his audience, or said another way it gets his audience to identify with him. Even his shouting ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Essay Similarities Between Night And The Book Night Introduction Imagine that your family is uprooted from where they have been living for your whole life, and are moved to a small space with 50 other people surrounded by death, suffering, disease and starvation. This scenario was very real in both the novel Night and the movie "Life is beautiful". Furthermore, these two stories from the holocaust are similar and different in many ways. They are both from the same point of view which is from the son, the development of Elie and Joshua throughout the story, the characterization of the father, and God's provisions in there lives while they were in the concentration camp. Although, there are many things that are alike in both of these stories, there are many things that are different. This is just one of the many ways how God showed his grace toward Elie in his time or need and how he provided for him and his father throughout this suffering. In addition to Elie getting provisions from God, Joshua did also. Joshua was provided with the provision of hating to take showers. As the boy in the movie is portrayed, he hates to take showers. The Many Facets Of Policing The Many Facets of Policing in America Ashley Robinson Southern New Hampshire University Abstract For the final project for this American Policing course I've created a research paper on Policing in America. Throughout the contents of this paper I have identified whether the current policing philosophies have a positive or negative impact on the communities and how I've arrived at this conclusion. I have provided this critical assessment and recommendation based on text readings, scholarly research, and personal experience, in and out of the bonds of this course. The main elements of this piece are as follows: 1. History of policing in America 2. The evolution of policing in America 3. The civil rights era of policing 4. Community policing 5. Modern police tactics and philosophies The History and Evolution of Policing in America Every aspect of modern society grew into what we know now as civilized. The American Police organization history and evolution can be explained by detailing the 3 eras of American policing. The Political Era, the Reform Era and the Community Integration Era. The political Era of American policing 1840–1930 The political Era, or the "good ol boy" era of American Policing was established in 1840, long after the establishment of the 1st watch system in Boston Massachusetts in 1631, This Era implemented, authorized and funded by the local elected political officials, the early policing concept frequently struggled with the need to be unified and ... Much Ado About Nothing Essay: Many Facets of Love Explored Many Facets of Love Explored in Much Ado About Nothing In Shakespeare's romantic comedy Much Ado About Nothing, Shakespeare focuses a great deal of time to the ideas of young, lustful, and intellectual love. Claudio and Hero, Borachio and Margaret, and Benedick and Beatrice, respectively, each represent one of the basic aspects of love. Shakespeare is careful to point out that not one path is better than another. The paths are merely different, and all end happily. Shakespeare also explores the different aspects of courtship, weddings, and the different facets of love. The aspect of courtship in Much Ado About Nothing plays a crucial role in the development of the characters and in the evolution of the play as a whole. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 77. My Personal Experience : My Experiences And Aspects Of My... When you meet a young teen, you don't expect them to have such huge responsibilities. There are people that go through situations at such young age that may not be because of their own actions, but because of someone else's. This is somehow seen as an example of a secondary victim. My sister and I are a good example of that. I was 13 years old when I first met my brother's girlfriend at my younger sister's birthday party, who by surprise, was expecting already. My family and I were in shock, and of course that was his big way of dropping the bomb. As a young guy from a very religious family this was bad and seen as a big disappointment towards my family. Once I saw her stomach and realized she was expecting, everything changed, my life, my childhood. As soon as my brother, Joe, brought her to move in to the house, she automatically became another member of the family, whether we liked her or not. She was not who we expected her to be. Joe started having problems with his lady and led him to desire to run away from her and move to another state. He left 5 months before the baby, Anthony, was born and still until today he lives in another state. Meanwhile then, the rest of the family interacted with her and tried to make her feel as comfortable as we could even though we did not like her, especially my sister and I. There were times where things got real awkward because of our differences but somehow my mother always found a way to break the ice. Through so many problems ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
