Good Ideas In The Circle By Dave Eggers
Have you ever had that creepy feeling that someone is watching you, but when you look around no
one is there? Or wonder how everyone seems to know your every move? That could be how we
would feel on a daily basis if we really were to implement some of the ideas Dave Eggers puts forth
in his book, The Circle. Concepts such as "secrets are lies", undisclosed ideas can be a detriment to
the company; "sharing is caring", every aspect of your life should be "shared" with others; and
"privacy is theft", concealment of ideas is robbing "everyone" of advancement. The impact to our
society if these "fictional" ideas were fully developed and mandated could be devastating. Some of
the ideas Eggers' explores are not all that far fetched. It is known that ... Show more content on

In this day and age, privacy is almost becoming a luxury, and it is almost impossible to go "online"
without your every move being tracked. While companies feel they have a right to invade your
privacy for the betterment of all, who is it really helping? It's no surprise some companies sell their
user's information to other companies to generate targeted ads to specific users; however, not many
people know Microsoft does this on all computers that run Windows 10, which turns out to be just
over 25% of the PC market. "...Finally, we will access, disclose and preserve personal data,
including your content (such as the content of your emails, other private communications or files in
private folders)..." This excerpt is taken from the Windows 10 privacy agreement, which every user
must agree to and abide by, states that Microsoft can lawfully collect data they deem useful. This
data includes basic personal information, buying preferences, email or video communications, and
much more. Microsoft also tracks and records, each keystroke, duration of use, and telemetry of
every one of its Window 10 users. They say this information is vital to the company for "fixing
bugs, and improving the performance of the operating system and associated services" Lenovo is
another company that has been caught installing spyware such as Superfish malware, a program that

A Good Idea For The Green Party
There is clear evidence that invasive species of plants and animals can cause grave consequences to
native organisms. Charles Mann talks about this a lot in his book 1493, and provides his readers
with several examples of this problem. Some people believe that strict laws should be enforced
when it comes to the movement of plants, animals, and people between distant places. I'm an
environmental–friendly person and even support the Green Party, but I completely disagree with
this. I realize that this problem exists, but I do not believe that strictly enforcing laws against the
movement of live organisms is a good idea. I believe that we should loosely limit and control
organisms being moved. In Charles Mann's book, 1493, he talks about several problems throughout
the world including the movement of organisms from one location to a foreign location. One
example that Mann provides his readers with was, worms killing terraces in Ifugao (Mann 495). The
worm species Pheretima and Polypheretima are invading terraces and killing them because of their
hungry appetite. These giant earthworms came from oversees and can grow up to two feet in size.
They leave huge tunnels and water sluices out of them, killing the rice plants at the same time
(Mann 495). These worms are causing the terraces to become porous and sponge–like, which should
never be terms used for a terrace. Another example that Mann uses is, the golden apple snail
(Pomacea canaliculata) which was sent to Taiwan from

HITTINGER'S CRITIQUE ON JOHN FINNIS'S IDEA OF BASIC GOODS 11
INTRODUCTION
JohnFinnis commences his analysis with a defence of naturalist jurisprudence and then offers new
insights into what positivism is and what is its relationship with natural law theories. He
convincingly and forcefully shows that positivists opposition to natural law is redundant because
what positivsts see as realities to be affirmed are already affirmed by natural law theory, and what
they describe as illusions to be affirmed are not part of natural law.
JohnFinnis work is urging us to return to more classical as well as individual richer notion of natural
law espoused by St. Thomas Acquinas that builds on the work of Aristotile and Cicero. This means
an idea of natural law which is basically focused on achievement of good and ultimately on
achievement on what, from social perspective by which we came to a conclusion of common goods.
This creates an idea of although law and morality are not exactly the same but it is almost
impossible to separate law completely from morality. All rights either legal or natural are aimed at
enhancing some good. Some of the goods may be said to be intermediate or that is to say

Are Friends Working Together A Good Idea?
Are friends working together a good idea?
When first starting this module I made the group with four other good friends, thinking that it would
be a good idea because we will all get along. I don't think I have ever been more wrong. From the
first assignment there was clashes between members of the group for multiple different reasons and
this ultimately lead to the group splitting. This module has revealed different qualities in my so–
called friends/team members and really leads to the loss of friendship between us. So are friends
working together really a good idea?
For the first assignment this module we shot '2002: An Interstellar Gravitational Space Trek'. While
shooting this short film I should have realised then that the group was doomed to fail. One member
lied about how big his house was so the green screen wouldn't work properly as we couldn't light it.
While the other two sat round laughing and joking for the whole time and refused to help out with
the actual production. The other team member was great and just wanted to get the short film
completed, like me but we where slowed down by the other members of the group. What should
have took and hour maybe two at most took us nearly seven hours to complete with a lot of the
footage missing. We managed to salvage what we shot and made something half decent. Admittedly
we did have a good laugh filming but we knew we could not film the same way for the next task if
we wanted to do well. Along came our next endeavor

Is It Not Always A Good Idea? Essay
1.Why is it not always a good idea to describe a population by its average size? In other words, how
do any of the individual simulations differ from the average of all simulations, and why might this
difference be important to realise?
It may not be a good idea to describe a population by its average (blue line on trajectory summery),
as the model takes into account the standard deviation (indicated by upper and lower error bar
thresholds). This standard deviation displays the equal probability that a population will reach these
upper and lower abundances over the course of the population model. It is important to realise this
difference as over the course of a population model (25 years), the standard deviation error
thresholds may allow the population to become extinct or it may allow it to explode to excessive
numbers which is a huge population range between upper and lower figures. Each time a model is
simulated, the average abundances will be different but will remain within the standard deviation
outliers.

The northern spotted owl should be considered critically endangered based on Mace and Lande

extinction over five years. As the trajectory summary

Is Donald Trump A Good Idea
Is voting for Donald Trump a good idea? Many people have varying opinions about Donald Trump;
but statistically, 53.3% of people do not like him due to many reasons. Some of which are: first,
many people do not want him to become president because he was committed to building a wall
through the Mexico and U.S. border; secondly, he is not going to be taking any money out of the
U.S. tax payers but is going to force the Mexican government to pay for the wall which will cost
nearly $25 billion; lastly, he stole money out of a charity just to purchase a portrait of himself. These
are a few reasons why many people think it is ludicrous for Donald Trump to become the new
President of America. However, many people are in agreement to his intentions ... Show more

Donald Trump was running a foundation that collected money for research on breast cancer.
Astonishingly, he used around $25,000 from the collection to purchase a portrait of himself, painted
on the spot by a speed painter. The portrait is now on a wall of one of his golf course buildings.
Donald Trump also scammed the Charles Evans Foundation. This foundation was collecting money
and donated a large amount of $1 million. Donald Trump was a part of this foundation and got an
award for "Selfless Support"; he used the kind donations made by the people of around 150,000
dollars, took all the credit, and declared worldwide that he donated all of that money. There was only
one person involved in these scandals, which was Donald Trump. All of his decisions caused
outrages and anger in many countries, but his supporters overpowered the haters and helped Donald
Trump win the U.S elections. Donald Trump should have been defeated easily, but the people of
racist mindsets voted for him and were victorious.Ultimately, Donald Trump's scandals have
impacted many people and places across the word. First the Mexico–U.S wall scandal will provide a
strong barrier against the entry of illegal immigrants, illegal drugs and businesses in to the U.S.
Second, Mexico will not be paying the staggering amount for the wall as Donald Trump demanded.
Finally, the charity scandals of Donald Trump had absolutely no affect on the

Analysis Of Where Good Ideas Come From By Steven Johnson
In the book Where Good Ideas Come From by Steven Johnson, he shows his readers that great ideas
come from ordinary involvement and he uses the history of inventions/innovations to back up his
theories. Steven Johnson's writing is meant to explain how to achieve good ideas and what we can
do to advance the ingenuity of our environment. Throughout this piece of work, Johnson illustrates
seven theories of innovation of how inventions happen, these consist of; The Adjacent Possible,
Liquid Networks, The Slow Hunch, Serendipity, Error, Exaptation, and Platforms. Where Good
Ideas Come From advises that in the end sincerity and connection may be more respected to
innovation than to a full extent competitive humans.

A specific constellation of neurons– thousands of them– fire in sync with each other for the first
time in your brain, and an idea pops into your consciousness. A new idea is a network of cells
exploring the adjacent possible of connections that they can make in your mind" (45). Ideas aren't
alone elements, they are not flashed by the networks between different essentials. For ideas to occur,
you have to place the essentials at your removal in surroundings where more networks can occur in
the right way. The best networks have two features: they make it possible for its essentials to make
as many networks as possible, and they offer a casual environment that inspires continuous
"collisions" among all of its essentials. They offer more steadiness than gas, where there's not
enough time for important networks to happen, and less stiffness than solids, where there's not
enough casualness. In the book, Johnson speaks about ideas as hunches. He says that hunches come
fast and slow. Persistence and reflection are major aspects of innovation. If it feels totally fresh,
chances are it's not that appreciated. Johnson says, "Williams had a hunch about terrorist groups and
flight schools, and that hunch on its own would not have been enough to prevent the attacks of
September 11" (71). Perhaps if something before Williams came up and they used that with his
hunch, they could have prevented the attack of

Summary Of The Book 'A Good Idea'
Finley, main character, says,"What if I'm not sure now" (Moracho 189). In my last reading response
I explained how Finley and Serena are trying to turn everyone against Calder, who they suspect is
their best friend's murderer, but now suddenly are doubting their friend if she is even dead. The
quote at the beginning gives a perfect example how the author, of the book A Good Idea, keeps the
reader hooked into the story by using suspense, and allusion. The author does an excellent job by
keeping the reader interested in the book by using suspensive quotes. For example, " Tell him what?
I know what I saw, but it's not like I got a picture of her" (Moracho 165). This quote made me doubt
Betty because her dead body was never found. This quote

Drinking Age : A Good Idea
Drinking Age Who could possibly think it's smart to lower the national minimum age requirement to
buy and consume alcohol? Richard Marron, State Representative of Vermont, thinks it's a good idea.
Ruth C. Engs, Professor of Applied Health Sciences at Indiana University, thinks it's a good idea.
Dwight B. Heath, Professor of Anthropology at Brown University, thinks it's a good idea. I think it's
a good idea. Wouldn't lowering the Minimum Legal Drinking Age (MLDA) result in more cases of
drunk driving? Overall, no. The number of DUIs among people between the ages of 18–20 would
most likely increase, but this increase would be offset by a decrease in DUIs among people between
the ages of 21–24. In a study published in Southern Economic ... Show more content on

How many videos have you seen online of a college student, completely wasted, doing something
incredibly stupid? If this person had started drinking at a younger age, in an appropriate setting, and
in the presence of responsible adults, this would happen much less frequently. Unfortunately, it isn't
possible to learn to drink in a safe place when under 21 because you have to drink in a secluded area
to avoid being caught. It isn't possible to drink in the presence of responsible adults because these
are the same people trained to not allow you to drink. Instead, young adults either binge drink with
their friends at an unsafe location away from supervision, or they wait until they get to college
where there aren't any parents around and drink too much too fast due to a lack of experience.
Currently, the National Minimum Drinking Age Act prevents states from lowering their MLDA
below 21 by threatening to cut 10% of federal highway funding if they do so.
This needs to change.
With the correct legislation, the state would not only maintain funding, but would actually gain
money. With a lower MLDA, more people would be able buy alcohol at liquor stores and drink
alcohol in restaurants, bars, and other licensed establishments. Revenue for these businesses would
increase, resulting in more tax money for the federal and state government. Teenagers get a rush
from breaking the law. It's a fact.

Humorous Wedding Speech: How To Be A Good Ideas
Hi guys and welcome back to my blog!
I know it has been SOOO long since I have posted I am really sorry!
*apologizes*
Anyway, like this (vote) if you are feeling FESTIVE AF!!!! I really am feeling festive!
I know you are like supposed to start blogmas at the beginning of December but school had been
very pressurising as we have had lots of tests, and I wouldn't have time.
So, my blogmas is going to be 25 days, which will take us up to new year (sort of idk??)
Anyway, so today as I received and gave some presents today, I thought it would be a good idea, as
there is BARELY ENOUGH TIME TO GET PRESENTS IT IS LIKE 10 DAYS and, since I am a
hugely unorganized person when it comes to this kind of thing, I though I could share some
experiences/ideas on last minute Christmas presents.
I know not everyone has lots of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Now, bare in mind that most people get their Christmas gifts bought early as you can get it
discounted and everything so there is limited things this time. You can still pick up some good
bargains , if you know where to look (amazon, eBay etc.)
My first honourable mention is Candles. They can be expensive (however this can be prevented if
bought in a sale) and these are mainly a girly gift. Candles are really nice and, when buying one,
think about the person– buy a scent that sort of reflects their personality/a memory you have had.
For example, if you went to a bonfire night together, buy a bonfire scented candle, to remind you of
the memories. Candles are a great gift and can cost range from £5–£30.
Bath/Beauty Products for girls, these are foolproof. The good thing is that they am also be relatively
cheap, if you go to places like TX Max (a discount store) and also, a lot of thought can be put in.
Ask the person what their favourite scent is, and buy them a bath set, or buy a nice eyeshadow
pallet. Also, these are very easy to find, however late you are buying!! For men, thanks like
deodorants and skincare are a nice

Is Child Vaccination A Good Idea?
Is Child Vaccination a Good Idea?
Today, there are many controversial topics around the world that people cannot seem to agree on.
One such topic is whether children should be vaccinated. As babies, we are born with antibodies
transferred through our mother's placenta. These antibodies protect babies from particular diseases.
Breastfed babies after birth remain receiving more antibodies from breast milk. However, the
protection from these antibodies is only momentarily in both instances. Vaccinations, also known as
immunization, is a method that uses small quantities of a dead or weakened microorganism from a
specific disease in order to create resistance to it. When vaccinated, children's immune system
undergoes a stimulation to react as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, there are many beneficial effects. Such benefits include protection of the whole
population, the ability to save children's lives, and eradication of diseases. In my opinion the
benefits far outweigh the detriment.
A major benefit of vaccinating children is that the whole population exploits from this. If children
are vaccinated, they become immune to whatever disease the vaccine protects against for example,
measles. Thus, if someone were to have measles, whoever is immune would not contract it. If the
population was not immune to easily preventable illnesses such as smallpox and diphtheria, then
epidemics could erupt, killing most of the population. This has been proven to be true in the history
of America. Once the Europeans came over the America, they had already formed a resistance to
smallpox. However, the Native Americans had never been exposed to those diseases found in
civilizations. Once the Europeans came in contact with the Native Americans, entire tribes would
become extinct due to their immune systems not forming antibodies that could fight against diseases
from Europe. This still happens to somewhat the case today. This can be demonstrated "in 2011,"
when "49 US states did not meet the 92–94% herd immunity threshold for pertussis (whooping
cough), resulting in a 2012 outbreak that sickened 42,000 people and was the biggest outbreak since
1955" (Too Many Children Go Unvaccinated). Even though entire populations are not being
eradicated

John Tzortzos Good Ideas
John Tzortzos Good–bye "And she lived happily ever after." Lisa took a deep breath and closed her
eyes as her father finished reading her a bedtime story. She had a slight smile on her face, and knew
nothing could get better than that moment. "Goodnight Lisa," her dad whispered as he leaned to give
her a kiss on her forehead. Woken abruptly by slobber all over her face, Lisa was only dreaming.
Her dog had snuck into her room and awoken her with his good morning kisses. As a tear trickled
down her face, her repeated dream of her dad reading her a story was no reality. Lisa's dad was
enlisted in the army and had been gone for now five years, which felt like an eternity. His term was

past experiences she has gone through with her dad. However, the next morning comes she's once
again reminded that he is gone. She was only 13 when her dad had left home, and now being 18 and
ready to move on with her life her dad has promised to come home soon. Graduation was coming up

Graffiti Good Ideas
Graffiti is never a good idea. It's especially a bad idea if it's done in a school, and it involves a
friend. In my old elementary school, there were two different levels of grades in one building.
Kindergarten to third grade was called lower elementary and fourth to sixth grade was called upper
elementary. It was always a big deal to go from one level to the next because everyone was in the
same classroom, with the same teacher and the same group of friends for three years. Of course, it
all changed when we went to fourth grade. The day I walked into the classroom, I saw my friend
talking with a girl I disliked. She hadn't ever acted mean in the traditional sense, but her attitude
towards me left much to be desired. This, of course, led ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The guilt made me hate going to class and desperate for summer vacation to start because I thought
it would help me to rid myself of the guilt and give me a fresh start when the following year began.
Unfortunately, it didn't work out as I anticipated and before the year ended, my friend who gave me
the marker tattled on me. Once everyone found out, no one believed it was me because I was the
quietest in the class and it was so out of character for me. I admitted it to everyone, and surprisingly,
I wasn't punished or even scolded, but I believe the punishment I put upon myself because of the
guilt was harsher than any of a teacher or principal.
Through my actions, I failed to be good student and I also failed a classmate who would later
become a good friend because I didn't think. Whenever I reminisce about this event, I am forever
reminded of what I did and it helps me to remember to think before acting impulsively, because my
actions might have consequences in the future which could negatively affect me or my friends.

Final Paper
Is Minimum Wage a good idea?
Introduction / Thesis Statement:
Minimum wage is the lowest or minimum compensation for workers by their employers. As such, it
has a noticeable impact on the economy through various channels including standard of living,
business efficiency, wage and income inequality, etc. Although minimum wage has many positive
effects such as increasing the standard of living as well as reducing inequality, there are also many
drawbacks to having a minimum wage such as inflation and unemployment. This paper will attempt
to determine the influence of having a regulated minimum wage has on the economy.
Supporting Evidence 1: Wage Inequality Minimum wage establishes the minimum cost of a worker
as compensation for service or work performed. An increase in the minimum wage raises the
relative price of less skilled labour, those who may be earning minimum wage and therefore directly
affected by the increase. The increase in the price of less skilled labour may lead to a rise in the
demand for more skilled labour (Stewart, 2012), those not directly affected by an increase in
minimum wage resulting in spillover. Despite this, overall the minimum wage has grown faster than
the median. (Stewart, 2012) This indicates that although an increase in the minimum wage directly
increases those at the lower end, and indirectly those at the upper end, overall the disparity is

that may be a problem. Our government is in the best financial state, and the people who are paying

Is Lottery a Good Idea?
Lottery is one of the best things that has ever happened to human kind especially those that dream
high and but their dreams don't come to life because they don't have what it takes to make it happen.
Lotteries are in various categories such as sweep stakes, scratch off, the Jackpot and even the green

or people in general buy the lottery ticket their hopes are high, and they anxiously await with

The history of lottery started long time ago in the early history of America. The online gov. info
library states that "Lotteries were frequently used in colonial–era America to finance public works
projects such as paving streets, constructing wharves, even building churches. In the 18th century,
lotteries were used to finance construction of buildings at Harvard and Yale." This shows that lottery
has been around for a long time. Today, most states have adopted lottery system especially the
computerized ones like mega millions and Powerball due to the world advancing technologically.
This is so because these states have seen the growth of income that come from lotto. Each state has
rules and time frames in which a prize can be claimed. Some states allows people to be anonymous
like Ohio while others don't have that option. For example, in Indiana winners have 90 days before
they claim their prize and their identity is revealed. In cases where the winning ticket isn't claimed,
the state will get back all the money that it contributed to the unclaimed jackpot. The money is
distributed according to state rules.
Even if the winner comes forward, every state that participates in lottery selling benefits from it. The
state imposes both federal and state taxes on the winner. Winners have a choice to take a pay out as
a lump sum or as an annuity. If the payment is lump sum, taxes are paid out at once and annually if
the prize is taken as an annuity. These

Why Is It A Good Idea To Pay Students For Good Grades
In some schools across the country, straight–A students are being rewarded with money, ski passes
and even cars! In our society people are rewarded for a job well done. Little kids get candy or
stickers for doing what they're told, adults get bonuses at work for doing their job well, but more
and more students are getting rewards for good grades. Like at Bloom trail high school, a school that
pays $50 per month to kids with good attendance and grades of all C's or better. Is this doing more
good or harm? There are pros and cons to this issue, but after analyzing the evidence, I think that it
is a good idea to pay students for good grades. Even though I think this, I will show the cons first.

dropping out and how it could change their lives for better. They could learn about money, get a
decent job, or even go to college. They could even get a full scholarship, which is the ultimate
reward for good grades. When I thought about it that way, how it could change a student's life
forever, I changed my mind. Now I am in favor of good

A Break for School Is Not a Good Idea
Should You Wait or Not When high school is over, that is the time students need to decide if they are
going to start college right away or wait a year or two. Whichever choice they choose will affect
their future. Students should not put off their education for a long period of time. This will only hurt
the students because they will start to forget things they had learned in high school. If they wait to
go to school, it could also put a delay on their career. Then when they do want to go to start going
back to college to get a degree, it will become harder to start going back. Also, there are the students
that take a break during the middle of their college years and this can hurt them also. Not every
student sees taking a break ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Due to this, is will make it even harder for students without a college degree to get a good high
paying job. It is like companies want their future employees to be put in debt. There are only very
few jobs that actually don't require any education to get that job. For example, working at Walmart
or Target getting part time pay being a cashier or loading shelves. It is not a career; it is just a job to
gets them money. Having an education doesn't guarantee anyone of getting the job they are applying
for, but it definitely gives them an edge over somebody applying for the same position without a
degree. Also with a college education there will be many more opportunities in the career field then
there would be for someone without the college education. According to John Ebersole's article from
Forbes, he stated "not only is there a $400 per week difference in earnings between those with a
high school diploma and those with a bachelor's degree, there is also a substantial difference in
unemployment" (Ebersole 6). Having an education will help in the long run and allow for a better
job than someone with no college education. Finding a good and stable job today is going to be hard
for everyone but even hard for the people that do not have any education or degree in anything.
Going to college will help students get ready for the real world. When graduating high school, they
should go to college right

because he was my father's best friend, but after a while I realized my father would be happy that
Joe is going to take care of her. Deep down I knew my mother couldn't be alone forever and she
deserved to be happy, and Joe is a great guy and he really loves her.
Do you think you and Zach will stay together and eventually get married? I don't know what the

Esme Delapaz: A Good Ideas
In the second post of this blog series dedicated to the strange and supernatural happenings at 129
Walsh, we are going to begin to explore the timeline before Tony Atkins bought the residence in
1978. This blogger still doesn't wish to get too far into the life of the original owner, one Esme
Delapaz, as that will be the topic of our next two installments. And we will only cursorily get into
the rumors she was a witch, as many townspeople have claimed. She will be mentioned in this blog
post only as far as she was involved in the lives of those it concerns.
We will instead focus on the grandchildren of Miss Delapaz, Bianca and Viviana Talbot. And her
one daughter Mariabella.
Bianca was born in the early spring of 1960 to her father, Gustave ... Show more content on

They also became interested in boys, as girls are wont to do. And, more often than not, history has a
bad habit of repeating itself as young Bianca became pregnant at sixteen. Esme wanted to know the
name of the bastard foolish enough to lie down with her granddaughter, but Bianca refused to give
the boy up. Esme said she could find out easily. Esme had her ways.
In the end, it didn't matter who the boy was. Bianca was confined to the basement. Esme would tie
her up regularly and punish her with what she called "cleansings." They were beatings, make no
mistake about that. The girl's skin was raw from the bindings the old woman used. She was bruised
and bloody from the lashes she would get from various objects of torture.
All through this, she kept her baby. It grew inside her stomach as the beatings continued. No one
knows Esme's reasons for letting this happen, as surely she could have aborted the child easily, if not
done something much worse. Some say she wanted the baby to be born to complete some sort of
ritual.
Bianca's sister, young Viviana, would sneak down at night and take Bianca bits of food and sips of
water. She would curl up with the girl on the raggedy old mattress in the corner and promise her it
would all be over soon. They would be free.
Neither of them knew what the price of freedom would ultimately

Why Have Curfews A Good Idea?
In some towns in our country, city councils have curfews for teenagers on weekdays and weekends.
Many people may think this is a bad idea, but some people believe that it is a good idea.
Having a curfew for teenagers is a good idea because it takes the risk out for them to get hurt. It
takes the risk out because adolescents will not be out all night doing stupid things getting hurt. This
curfew ensures that they get home on time without getting hurt.
Another reason why having a curfew is a good idea is because it gives the student enough time to be
out with friends, but home in enough time to get homework done and have plenty of rest. Making
sure a child gets enough sleep is very important. With this curfew it will make sure that they have

Generate Ideas About A Good Idea Essay
My Research Project: Generate Ideas about a Topic
I am personally interested in the influence of society because whether we realize it or not society
influences a lot of our personal choices as well as our personal choices influence society's choices.
Many people don't realize how much society actually influences us whether it's in an implicit or
explicit manner. Books, fashion, internet, news and even human interaction changes our outlook on
things constantly, and it'll be interesting to break down certain aspects from the sources of societal
expectations I've identified and take a look at how they influence everyone around them.
In your research log, use brainstorming, freewriting, looping, and clustering to generate ideas for a
topic.

Writing about the influence of society will help me accomplish the following purposes: it will help
my readers think in an outside perspective rather than a personal perspective and create a better
understanding for others.

The Complex Idea Of Good And The Power Of Faith
Benjy Herrmann
Paper #3
October 27, 2016
GESM 110
12:30–1:50 TTh
The Complex Idea of Good and the Power of Faith Violence, specifically with murder, is inherently
morally wrong in the vast majority of cases. But through analysis of Judah Rosenthal in Woody
Allen's Crimes and Misdemeanors, Kenny and Tub in Tobias Wolff's "Hunters in the Snow," and the
Grandma and The Misfit in Flannery O'Connor's "A Good Man is Hard to Find," the traditional
sides of good and bad in a murder are blurred. One of the most important ideas seen throughout
these pieces is the role of faith (or lack thereof) in decisions, whether in a life or death situation or in
general, and that the question of what exactly makes a moral, good individual is not a simple one.
As the idiom 'there is more than meets the eye' suggests, there has yet to be a completely pure, good
human, despite how they might first appear. Despite the contributions of the other characters, The
Misfit is the best character to convey these themes, as his struggle with faith in the story requires
complex analysis, as the individual presents multiple angles to both the reader and the grandmother.
The Misfit is first introduced in the first paragraph of O'Connor's short story, as Grandma tells her
family of the notorious killer who has just escaped from prison (O'Connor 1042). While a fair
assumption, The Misfit is immediately established as an antagonist and an immoral individual. He
then is not mentioned until right before Pitty

Etha-Not a Good Idea Essay
Etha–Not a Good Idea Ethanol is the fuel of the future. Really? How so? Ethanol will solve the
energy crisis. That sounds a little far fetched. Ethanol stimulates time travel. Alright, that's just a
flat–out lie. It seems that these days everybody and their brother thinks that ethanol is the magic key
to the future of powering automobiles and solving the problem of dependence on foreign oil. Well,
that is not the case. Ethanol is not the energy source of the future; in fact ethanol only creates more
energy problems. When Nicolaus Otto built his famous four–stroke engine in 1876, he chose it to
use gasoline (Gilles 2). It was probably because gasoline was the most abundant fuel, and because it
had a relatively high energy density ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the final results came in, gasoline came out on top. Surprise, surprise. To go 667 miles, it took
36.5 gallons of gasoline, whereas it took 50 gallons of E85 to go that same distance. That's a 26.5
percent drop in fuel economy. And having to drive all the way to find a service station that has
ethanol will definitely not help keep the tank full, which shows that gasoline is better for mileage,
kit and caboodle. (Edmunds and Reed)
These two authorities in the automotive field made an addition to the experiment: performance of
the same Tahoe on ethanol and gasoline. Not only were the standard 0–60 and quarter–mile tests
done, but also a test for something more common in everyday driving, a 50–70 miles per hour
highway test. In the quarter–mile test, gasoline eked out a win, taking the gold by three–tenths of a
second and finishing about two miles an hour faster. The naught–to–60 test is where good ol'
fashioned gasoline blew ethanol out of the water. Gasoline was faster than ethanol by five–tenths of
a second in reaching the mark of 60 miles an hour. The only time ethanol was faster than gasoline
was when there was a mechanical glitch in the transmission in the 50–70, but without glitches,
gasoline was still faster. (Edmunds and Reed)
One might say, "Oh, well gasoline may be fast now, but how fast will it be when there isn't any more
gasoline left?" Valid point, gasoline won't

The Idea Of Transcendent Good Analysis
Intro : In this essay I will relate how we struggle with truth and self definition, while society gives us
responsibilities , but reality tests our characterization. As humans we are expected to understand
what is best for society while struggling with our own perception of what the truth is. In this essay I
will relate the Ideas of Plato, Aristotle and D.T and how our personal and ethical choices reflect the
way we are perceived in society.
1st point: The Idea of "Transcendent good" by: Plato in the Book VI of the Republic. Where he
viewed the universe as having two realms, the realm of reality "the world we live in everyday" and
the realm of "transcendent good" which is unattainable because we are corruptible by society.

The second amendment was written in 1791. This amendment was added along with nine others in
the Bill of Rights. This specific amendment gives a person the right to keep and bear arms. Ever
since this amendment was added there have been debates on whether this was a good or bad idea.
Both sides held valid points on the matter. Personally, I believe this amendment was a good idea, but
requires some boundaries and limitations. With all the murders that happen in our country, it's only
logical for people to want a way to protect not only themselves, but their loved ones as well.
However, the opposing argument would be that having these weapons is what causes the problem.
While this is correct, people can use everyday objects as weapons. They

Was Fordism A Good Idea?
Fordism, a term that in the early 20th century forged from Ford Motors which was found in 1903
and became widely used in describing mass production and mass consumption. The term itself was
named after Henry Ford when him and his engineers came up with new innovations in layouts of the
factory to be used on a regular basis to modernize operations and reduce the time required to
assemble each car which ultimately led to an increase in demand. Fordism has been used for years
and if it never reached the light of day we would not have production as fast as we do now. In this
essay I will be explaining more on what Fordism is and will be provide examples regarding why it
was a good idea. Fordism has two descriptions in economic development, one

Romeo And Juliet: Will It Be A Good Idea?
Will It Be a Good Idea? Romeo and Juliet is a poem that was written by William Shakespeare. It
was officially published in 1597. This graceful story is about love, emotions and passion of two
young people who wanted to be together. Unfortunately for them, their families were enemies and
for that reason they didn't have any other option but to secretly get married, with the help of a Fryer
Lorenz. However, the fate was not on their side and this beautiful love had no chance for existence

Actors in such poem must show their emotions through their eyes. In some scenes, protagonists had
to show their insensate love, in others they had to show their tragic emotions. A great example
would be the scene where Romeo meets his love in Capulet's yard. With a mask on Romeo's face, it
would be impossible to transmit his feelings towards Juliet. He must show his excitement, as well
as, happiness on his face, when he first hears his name from Juliet's mouth. On the other hand, in the
scene where he comes and sees Juliet sleeping, thinking she is dead, protagonist went through
mixed, nasty emotions. An actor who would play protagonist has to show these feelings through the
sadness and emptiness in his eyes. If actors wore masks, it would be extremely hard to transfer their
emotions to the audience. The one could argue that in Oedipus, a story full of tragedy, actors wore
masks and it did not thwart to show the play; however, Oedipus play was not that much about
emotions, the importance was in meaning of the story. People went to watch plays for religious
purposes. On the other hand, Romeo and Juliet are full of emotions and the main purpose of it was
to enjoy the

care for their children. They may take money meant to feed the children to spend on the machines
with intention of winning back the lost bet. Some of them may abuse their children physically or

restrictions were relaxed, criminals were the first to open up legal gambling establishments". Even
when there were regulations in Nevada, because they were slack, it did not prevent members of
organized crime from openly owning and operating casinos. To some degree, Nevada needed the
criminals to make gambling viable because no one else had their expertise and experience" as

Gambling will always attract criminals because of the large cash involved. In gambling operations,
including card rooms, winners tend to accumulate large sums of cash and this create opportunities
for people to skim and also launder the money. Also there are opportunities to commit fraud against
dealers because while they are working they do not have time to account for their chips and count

Are Gap Years a Good Idea?
Are Gap Years A Good Idea? When you think about graduating high school, it is almost ingrained in
your brain that college is the next step. You think, "Who doesn't have a college degree?" And where
in life am I going to get without one. But school is not for everybody. A lot of kids, including me,
just go to college because it seems like the right path. Kids who have no idea what they want to do,
think "well a college degree could be useful," well why would you want to go do something, when
you have no idea why you're even doing it. Well, there may be another option. There is a British
tradition, which is called a gap year. Defined by Cambridge Dictionaries Online as "a year between

A Student dropping out provides lower statistics for good colleges, not because the college is doing
a bad job but because kids just are not ready. Why should a person go to college when they are just
not ready for it? If the dropout rate is high why not let a student defer their application until they are
ready? This is how the British gap year works, a student applies to colleges their senior year of high
school, like a normal fall applicant would. Once accepted, the student then defers their application
and the university gives them an amount of time off. When this time is over, they start in the next
semester. Most British colleges offer this to students, and a lot of colleges actually encourage it to
students who think they are not ready to handle the college life. I think the U.S. should do this to,
only because it is working so well in Britain. The gap year is proven to be a helpful and great
experience for students. If it wasn't why would universities encourage it? Students come back from
these trips or years off with a new found want to learn and a refreshed mind. After going to school
for four year, it is definitely hard to be excited to do the same thing for another four years. But with
a gap year, you're doing something else for a year, so when you come back you are in learning
mode. Another argument someone who is against gap years may make is that they are expensive,
especially if you are looking to travel.

Home Schooling Is A Good Idea
You may be asking yourself, how did home schooling begin? What was it like? Well, in the 1970's
and the 1980's home schooling began to spark. A few parents question whether public or private
school was right for their child. They were thinking they could do a better job. Well, what do you
know; parents learned they could do a better job. However, some states, prohibited home schooling.
If parents or guardians were home schooling, they could face jail time as well as losing their
children to the courts. Some parents were being arrested and some were taken to jail
(Homeschooling: Getting Started). Even today we have people who are against home schooling. Our
President of the United Stated, Obama, he doesn't believe home schooling is a good idea. He
believes public school should start as soon as age 3. He also said that students in middle and high
school should complete 50 hours of community service before they are able to go to the next grade
level (Will Obama Use UN Policy to End Homeschooling in America?).
"A crucial part of an education outside of the home is the interaction amongst the students that is
used to prepare them to have constructive engagements with fellow citizens when their schooling is

different social–economic statuses and religious or ethnic backgrounds prepare students for their

me? When we combine our "fair share" with the idea of "social justice" we might just have a cause
here, right? Being social is a good thing. Justice is good as well. So, putting the two ideas together
should be a good thing, right? Especially if we get our "fair share" of it. If we truly want social

shift their focus to learning and getting their schoolwork finished, on time. Not only will free
education bring about power, but it will lead to more educated people. More education of the people
will bring a more educated society and a better way of life. This would encourage people to focus on
the higher aspect of life, such as improving issues that impact society. This will also result in a better
government throughout time. Nonetheless, there are a few negative aspects to free college

Why Are Naps A Good Idea?
I am Diana Rodriguez and I am going to prove that napping is a good idea. I think napping is a good
idea because a nap can renew a person's energy. Also, naps can reduce the number of mistakes a
tired person makes. First, napping can be great choice for everyone because it can probably help you
from stress and maybe it can help you relax. It can take the hours you miss from sleeping and
replace the hours by taking naps. You should at least take 24 minutes to improve your performance.
In the article of "The Secret Truth about Napping" the text states that " A team of researchers led by
David F. Dinges, a professor at the University of Pennsylvania, found that letting subjects nap for as
little as 24 minutes improved their cognitive performance. So even short naps can reduce the
number of mistakes a tired person makes." However, I think that taking 24 minute naps should be
enough but at the same time it shouldn't. I think it should be at least 30–40 minutes because we want
to be energetic when we get up and I think taking 24 minute naps might get you tired again.
Napping can help you recharge your body. The text states that " On nights when you don't get sleep,

Is Voting For Donald Trump A Good Idea

  • 1. Good Ideas In The Circle By Dave Eggers Have you ever had that creepy feeling that someone is watching you, but when you look around no one is there? Or wonder how everyone seems to know your every move? That could be how we would feel on a daily basis if we really were to implement some of the ideas Dave Eggers puts forth in his book, The Circle. Concepts such as "secrets are lies", undisclosed ideas can be a detriment to the company; "sharing is caring", every aspect of your life should be "shared" with others; and "privacy is theft", concealment of ideas is robbing "everyone" of advancement. The impact to our society if these "fictional" ideas were fully developed and mandated could be devastating. Some of the ideas Eggers' explores are not all that far fetched. It is known that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this day and age, privacy is almost becoming a luxury, and it is almost impossible to go "online" without your every move being tracked. While companies feel they have a right to invade your privacy for the betterment of all, who is it really helping? It's no surprise some companies sell their user's information to other companies to generate targeted ads to specific users; however, not many people know Microsoft does this on all computers that run Windows 10, which turns out to be just over 25% of the PC market. "...Finally, we will access, disclose and preserve personal data, including your content (such as the content of your emails, other private communications or files in private folders)..." This excerpt is taken from the Windows 10 privacy agreement, which every user must agree to and abide by, states that Microsoft can lawfully collect data they deem useful. This data includes basic personal information, buying preferences, email or video communications, and much more. Microsoft also tracks and records, each keystroke, duration of use, and telemetry of every one of its Window 10 users. They say this information is vital to the company for "fixing bugs, and improving the performance of the operating system and associated services" Lenovo is another company that has been caught installing spyware such as Superfish malware, a program that "analyzes users' Internet habits and injects third–party advertising into websites on browsers such as Google ... • 3. A Good Idea For The Green Party There is clear evidence that invasive species of plants and animals can cause grave consequences to native organisms. Charles Mann talks about this a lot in his book 1493, and provides his readers with several examples of this problem. Some people believe that strict laws should be enforced when it comes to the movement of plants, animals, and people between distant places. I'm an environmental–friendly person and even support the Green Party, but I completely disagree with this. I realize that this problem exists, but I do not believe that strictly enforcing laws against the movement of live organisms is a good idea. I believe that we should loosely limit and control organisms being moved. In Charles Mann's book, 1493, he talks about several problems throughout the world including the movement of organisms from one location to a foreign location. One example that Mann provides his readers with was, worms killing terraces in Ifugao (Mann 495). The worm species Pheretima and Polypheretima are invading terraces and killing them because of their hungry appetite. These giant earthworms came from oversees and can grow up to two feet in size. They leave huge tunnels and water sluices out of them, killing the rice plants at the same time (Mann 495). These worms are causing the terraces to become porous and sponge–like, which should never be terms used for a terrace. Another example that Mann uses is, the golden apple snail (Pomacea canaliculata) which was sent to Taiwan from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. JohnFinnis commences his analysis with a defence of naturalist jurisprudence and then offers new insights into what positivism is and what is its relationship with natural law theories. He convincingly and forcefully shows that positivists opposition to natural law is redundant because what positivsts see as realities to be affirmed are already affirmed by natural law theory, and what they describe as illusions to be affirmed are not part of natural law. JohnFinnis work is urging us to return to more classical as well as individual richer notion of natural law espoused by St. Thomas Acquinas that builds on the work of Aristotile and Cicero. This means an idea of natural law which is basically focused on achievement of good and ultimately on achievement on what, from social perspective by which we came to a conclusion of common goods. This creates an idea of although law and morality are not exactly the same but it is almost impossible to separate law completely from morality. All rights either legal or natural are aimed at enhancing some good. Some of the goods may be said to be intermediate or that is to say ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Are Friends Working Together A Good Idea? Are friends working together a good idea? When first starting this module I made the group with four other good friends, thinking that it would be a good idea because we will all get along. I don't think I have ever been more wrong. From the first assignment there was clashes between members of the group for multiple different reasons and this ultimately lead to the group splitting. This module has revealed different qualities in my so– called friends/team members and really leads to the loss of friendship between us. So are friends working together really a good idea? For the first assignment this module we shot '2002: An Interstellar Gravitational Space Trek'. While shooting this short film I should have realised then that the group was doomed to fail. One member lied about how big his house was so the green screen wouldn't work properly as we couldn't light it. While the other two sat round laughing and joking for the whole time and refused to help out with the actual production. The other team member was great and just wanted to get the short film completed, like me but we where slowed down by the other members of the group. What should have took and hour maybe two at most took us nearly seven hours to complete with a lot of the footage missing. We managed to salvage what we shot and made something half decent. Admittedly we did have a good laugh filming but we knew we could not film the same way for the next task if we wanted to do well. Along came our next endeavor ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. Is It Not Always A Good Idea? Essay 1.Why is it not always a good idea to describe a population by its average size? In other words, how do any of the individual simulations differ from the average of all simulations, and why might this difference be important to realise? It may not be a good idea to describe a population by its average (blue line on trajectory summery), as the model takes into account the standard deviation (indicated by upper and lower error bar thresholds). This standard deviation displays the equal probability that a population will reach these upper and lower abundances over the course of the population model. It is important to realise this difference as over the course of a population model (25 years), the standard deviation error thresholds may allow the population to become extinct or it may allow it to explode to excessive numbers which is a huge population range between upper and lower figures. Each time a model is simulated, the average abundances will be different but will remain within the standard deviation outliers. Brook Trout Trajectory Summary Exercise B Using the criteria on page 38 for classifying a population as critical, endangered or vulnerable, should the spotted owl be considered critically endangered? Why or why not? The northern spotted owl should be considered critically endangered based on Mace and Lande (1991) which categorise critically endangered as a species having a 50% or greater probability of extinction over five years. • 12. Is Donald Trump A Good Idea Is voting for Donald Trump a good idea? Many people have varying opinions about Donald Trump; but statistically, 53.3% of people do not like him due to many reasons. Some of which are: first, many people do not want him to become president because he was committed to building a wall through the Mexico and U.S. border; secondly, he is not going to be taking any money out of the U.S. tax payers but is going to force the Mexican government to pay for the wall which will cost nearly $25 billion; lastly, he stole money out of a charity just to purchase a portrait of himself. These are a few reasons why many people think it is ludicrous for Donald Trump to become the new President of America. However, many people are in agreement to his intentions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Donald Trump was running a foundation that collected money for research on breast cancer. Astonishingly, he used around $25,000 from the collection to purchase a portrait of himself, painted on the spot by a speed painter. The portrait is now on a wall of one of his golf course buildings. Donald Trump also scammed the Charles Evans Foundation. This foundation was collecting money and donated a large amount of $1 million. Donald Trump was a part of this foundation and got an award for "Selfless Support"; he used the kind donations made by the people of around 150,000 dollars, took all the credit, and declared worldwide that he donated all of that money. There was only one person involved in these scandals, which was Donald Trump. All of his decisions caused outrages and anger in many countries, but his supporters overpowered the haters and helped Donald Trump win the U.S elections. Donald Trump should have been defeated easily, but the people of racist mindsets voted for him and were victorious.Ultimately, Donald Trump's scandals have impacted many people and places across the word. First the Mexico–U.S wall scandal will provide a strong barrier against the entry of illegal immigrants, illegal drugs and businesses in to the U.S. Second, Mexico will not be paying the staggering amount for the wall as Donald Trump demanded. Finally, the charity scandals of Donald Trump had absolutely no affect on the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 14. Analysis Of Where Good Ideas Come From By Steven Johnson In the book Where Good Ideas Come From by Steven Johnson, he shows his readers that great ideas come from ordinary involvement and he uses the history of inventions/innovations to back up his theories. Steven Johnson's writing is meant to explain how to achieve good ideas and what we can do to advance the ingenuity of our environment. Throughout this piece of work, Johnson illustrates seven theories of innovation of how inventions happen, these consist of; The Adjacent Possible, Liquid Networks, The Slow Hunch, Serendipity, Error, Exaptation, and Platforms. Where Good Ideas Come From advises that in the end sincerity and connection may be more respected to innovation than to a full extent competitive humans. The audience of Steven Johnson's ... A specific constellation of neurons– thousands of them– fire in sync with each other for the first time in your brain, and an idea pops into your consciousness. A new idea is a network of cells exploring the adjacent possible of connections that they can make in your mind" (45). Ideas aren't alone elements, they are not flashed by the networks between different essentials. For ideas to occur, you have to place the essentials at your removal in surroundings where more networks can occur in the right way. The best networks have two features: they make it possible for its essentials to make as many networks as possible, and they offer a casual environment that inspires continuous "collisions" among all of its essentials. They offer more steadiness than gas, where there's not enough time for important networks to happen, and less stiffness than solids, where there's not enough casualness. In the book, Johnson speaks about ideas as hunches. He says that hunches come fast and slow. Persistence and reflection are major aspects of innovation. If it feels totally fresh, chances are it's not that appreciated. Johnson says, "Williams had a hunch about terrorist groups and flight schools, and that hunch on its own would not have been enough to prevent the attacks of September 11" (71). Perhaps if something before Williams came up and they used that with his hunch, they could have prevented the attack of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 16. Summary Of The Book 'A Good Idea' Finley, main character, says,"What if I'm not sure now" (Moracho 189). In my last reading response I explained how Finley and Serena are trying to turn everyone against Calder, who they suspect is their best friend's murderer, but now suddenly are doubting their friend if she is even dead. The quote at the beginning gives a perfect example how the author, of the book A Good Idea, keeps the reader hooked into the story by using suspense, and allusion. The author does an excellent job by keeping the reader interested in the book by using suspensive quotes. For example, " Tell him what? • 18. Drinking Age : A Good Idea Drinking Age Who could possibly think it's smart to lower the national minimum age requirement to buy and consume alcohol? Richard Marron, State Representative of Vermont, thinks it's a good idea. Ruth C. Engs, Professor of Applied Health Sciences at Indiana University, thinks it's a good idea. Dwight B. Heath, Professor of Anthropology at Brown University, thinks it's a good idea. I think it's a good idea. Wouldn't lowering the Minimum Legal Drinking Age (MLDA) result in more cases of drunk driving? Overall, no. The number of DUIs among people between the ages of 18–20 would most likely increase, but this increase would be offset by a decrease in DUIs among people between the ages of 21–24. If this person had started drinking at a younger age, in an appropriate setting, and in the presence of responsible adults, this would happen much less frequently. Unfortunately, it isn't possible to learn to drink in a safe place when under 21 because you have to drink in a secluded area to avoid being caught. It isn't possible to drink in the presence of responsible adults because these are the same people trained to not allow you to drink. Instead, young adults either binge drink with their friends at an unsafe location away from supervision, or they wait until they get to college where there aren't any parents around and drink too much too fast due to a lack of experience. Currently, the National Minimum Drinking Age Act prevents states from lowering their MLDA below 21 by threatening to cut 10% of federal highway funding if they do so. This needs to change. With the correct legislation, the state would not only maintain funding, but would actually gain money. With a lower MLDA, more people would be able buy alcohol at liquor stores and drink alcohol in restaurants, bars, and other licensed establishments. Revenue for these businesses would increase, resulting in more tax money for the federal and state government. Teenagers get a rush from breaking the law. It's a fact. ... • 20. Humorous Wedding Speech: How To Be A Good Ideas Hi guys and welcome back to my blog! I know it has been SOOO long since I have posted I am really sorry! *apologizes* Anyway, like this (vote) if you are feeling FESTIVE AF!!!! I really am feeling festive! I know you are like supposed to start blogmas at the beginning of December but school had been very pressurising as we have had lots of tests, and I wouldn't have time. So, my blogmas is going to be 25 days, which will take us up to new year (sort of idk??) Anyway, so today as I received and gave some presents today, I thought it would be a good idea, as there is BARELY ENOUGH TIME TO GET PRESENTS IT IS LIKE 10 DAYS and, since I am a hugely unorganized person when it comes to this kind of thing, I though I could share some experiences/ideas on last minute Christmas presents. I know not everyone has lots of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Now, bare in mind that most people get their Christmas gifts bought early as you can get it discounted and everything so there is limited things this time. You can still pick up some good bargains , if you know where to look (amazon, eBay etc.) My first honourable mention is Candles. They can be expensive (however this can be prevented if bought in a sale) and these are mainly a girly gift. Candles are really nice and, when buying one, think about the person– buy a scent that sort of reflects their personality/a memory you have had. For example, if you went to a bonfire night together, buy a bonfire scented candle, to remind you of the memories. Candles are a great gift and can cost range from £5–£30. Bath/Beauty Products for girls, these are foolproof. The good thing is that they am also be relatively cheap, if you go to places like TX Max (a discount store) and also, a lot of thought can be put in. Ask the person what their favourite scent is, and buy them a bath set, or buy a nice eyeshadow pallet. Also, these are very easy to find, however late you are buying!! • 22. Is Child Vaccination A Good Idea? Is Child Vaccination a Good Idea? Today, there are many controversial topics around the world that people cannot seem to agree on. One such topic is whether children should be vaccinated. As babies, we are born with antibodies transferred through our mother's placenta. These antibodies protect babies from particular diseases. Breastfed babies after birth remain receiving more antibodies from breast milk. However, the protection from these antibodies is only momentarily in both instances. Vaccinations, also known as immunization, is a method that uses small quantities of a dead or weakened microorganism from a specific disease in order to create resistance to it. When vaccinated, children's immune system undergoes a stimulation to react as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, there are many beneficial effects. Such benefits include protection of the whole population, the ability to save children's lives, and eradication of diseases. In my opinion the benefits far outweigh the detriment. A major benefit of vaccinating children is that the whole population exploits from this. If children are vaccinated, they become immune to whatever disease the vaccine protects against for example, measles. Thus, if someone were to have measles, whoever is immune would not contract it. If the population was not immune to easily preventable illnesses such as smallpox and diphtheria, then epidemics could erupt, killing most of the population. This has been proven to be true in the history of America. Once the Europeans came over the America, they had already formed a resistance to smallpox. However, the Native Americans had never been exposed to those diseases found in civilizations. Once the Europeans came in contact with the Native Americans, entire tribes would become extinct due to their immune systems not forming antibodies that could fight against diseases from Europe. This still happens to somewhat the case today. This can be demonstrated "in 2011," when "49 US states did not meet the 92–94% herd immunity threshold for pertussis (whooping cough), resulting in a 2012 outbreak that sickened 42,000 people and was the biggest outbreak since 1955" (Too Many Children Go Unvaccinated). She had a slight smile on her face, and knew nothing could get better than that moment. "Goodnight Lisa," her dad whispered as he leaned to give her a kiss on her forehead. Woken abruptly by slobber all over her face, Lisa was only dreaming. Her dog had snuck into her room and awoken her with his good morning kisses. In my old elementary school, there were two different levels of grades in one building. Kindergarten to third grade was called lower elementary and fourth to sixth grade was called upper elementary. It was always a big deal to go from one level to the next because everyone was in the same classroom, with the same teacher and the same group of friends for three years. Introduction / Thesis Statement: Minimum wage is the lowest or minimum compensation for workers by their employers. As such, it has a noticeable impact on the economy through various channels including standard of living, business efficiency, wage and income inequality, etc. Although minimum wage has many positive effects such as increasing the standard of living as well as reducing inequality, there are also many drawbacks to having a minimum wage such as inflation and unemployment. This paper will attempt to determine the influence of having a regulated minimum wage has on the economy. Supporting Evidence 1: Wage Inequality Minimum wage establishes the minimum cost of a worker as compensation for service or work performed. An increase in the minimum wage raises the relative price of less skilled labour, those who may be earning minimum wage and therefore directly affected by the increase. The increase in the price of less skilled labour may lead to a rise in the demand for more skilled labour (Stewart, 2012), those not directly affected by an increase in minimum wage resulting in spillover. Despite this, overall the minimum wage has grown faster than the median. (Stewart, 2012) This indicates that although an increase in the minimum wage directly increases those at the lower end, and indirectly those at the upper end, overall the disparity is ... The Complex Idea Of Good And The Power Of Faith Benjy Herrmann Paper #3 October 27, 2016 GESM 110 12:30–1:50 TTh The Complex Idea of Good and the Power of Faith Violence, specifically with murder, is inherently morally wrong in the vast majority of cases. But through analysis of Judah Rosenthal in Woody Allen's Crimes and Misdemeanors, Kenny and Tub in Tobias Wolff's "Hunters in the Snow," and the Grandma and The Misfit in Flannery O'Connor's "A Good Man is Hard to Find," the traditional sides of good and bad in a murder are blurred. One of the most important ideas seen throughout these pieces is the role of faith (or lack thereof) in decisions, whether in a life or death situation or in general, and that the question of what exactly makes a moral, good individual is not a simple one. As the idiom 'there is more than meets the eye' suggests, there has yet to be a completely pure, good human, despite how they might first appear. Despite the contributions of the other characters, The Misfit is the best character to convey these themes, as his struggle with faith in the story requires complex analysis, as the individual presents multiple angles to both the reader and the grandmother. The Misfit is first introduced in the first paragraph of O'Connor's short story, as Grandma tells her family of the notorious killer who has just escaped from prison (O'Connor 1042). While a fair assumption, The Misfit is immediately established as an antagonist and an immoral individual. He then is not mentioned until right before Pitty ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Ethanol stimulates time travel. Alright, that's just a flat–out lie. It seems that these days everybody and their brother thinks that ethanol is the magic key to the future of powering automobiles and solving the problem of dependence on foreign oil. Well, that is not the case. Ethanol is not the energy source of the future; in fact ethanol only creates more energy problems. When Nicolaus Otto built his famous four–stroke engine in 1876, he chose it to use gasoline (Gilles 2). It was probably because gasoline was the most abundant fuel, and because it had a relatively high energy density ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When the final results came in, gasoline came out on top. Surprise, surprise. To go 667 miles, it took 36.5 gallons of gasoline, whereas it took 50 gallons of E85 to go that same distance. That's a 26.5 percent drop in fuel economy. And having to drive all the way to find a service station that has ethanol will definitely not help keep the tank full, which shows that gasoline is better for mileage, kit and caboodle. (Edmunds and Reed) These two authorities in the automotive field made an addition to the experiment: performance of the same Tahoe on ethanol and gasoline. Not only were the standard 0–60 and quarter–mile tests done, but also a test for something more common in everyday driving, a 50–70 miles per hour highway test. In the quarter–mile test, gasoline eked out a win, taking the gold by three–tenths of a second and finishing about two miles an hour faster. The naught–to–60 test is where good ol' fashioned gasoline blew ethanol out of the water. Gasoline was faster than ethanol by five–tenths of a second in reaching the mark of 60 miles an hour. The only time ethanol was faster than gasoline was when there was a mechanical glitch in the transmission in the 50–70, but without glitches, gasoline was still faster. In some scenes, protagonists had to show their insensate love, in others they had to show their tragic emotions. A great example would be the scene where Romeo meets his love in Capulet's yard. With a mask on Romeo's face, it would be impossible to transmit his feelings towards Juliet. He must show his excitement, as well as, happiness on his face, when he first hears his name from Juliet's mouth. On the other hand, in the scene where he comes and sees Juliet sleeping, thinking she is dead, protagonist went through mixed, nasty emotions. An actor who would play protagonist has to show these feelings through the sadness and emptiness in his eyes. If actors wore masks, it would be extremely hard to transfer their emotions to the audience. The one could argue that in Oedipus, a story full of tragedy, actors wore masks and it did not thwart to show the play; however, Oedipus play was not that much about emotions, the importance was in meaning of the story. People went to watch plays for religious purposes. On the other hand, Romeo and Juliet are full of emotions and the main purpose of it was to enjoy the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 66. Are Gap Years a Good Idea? Are Gap Years A Good Idea? When you think about graduating high school, it is almost ingrained in your brain that college is the next step. You think, "Who doesn't have a college degree?" And where in life am I going to get without one. But school is not for everybody. A lot of kids, including me, just go to college because it seems like the right path. Kids who have no idea what they want to do, think "well a college degree could be useful," well why would you want to go do something, when you have no idea why you're even doing it. Well, there may be another option. There is a British tradition, which is called a gap year. Defined by Cambridge Dictionaries Online as "a year between leaving school and starting university which is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A Student dropping out provides lower statistics for good colleges, not because the college is doing a bad job but because kids just are not ready. Why should a person go to college when they are just not ready for it? If the dropout rate is high why not let a student defer their application until they are ready? This is how the British gap year works, a student applies to colleges their senior year of high school, like a normal fall applicant would. Once accepted, the student then defers their application and the university gives them an amount of time off. When this time is over, they start in the next semester. Most British colleges offer this to students, and a lot of colleges actually encourage it to students who think they are not ready to handle the college life. I think the U.S. should do this to, only because it is working so well in Britain. The gap year is proven to be a helpful and great experience for students. If it wasn't why would universities encourage it? Students come back from these trips or years off with a new found want to learn and a refreshed mind. After going to school for four year, it is definitely hard to be excited to do the same thing for another four years. But with a gap year, you're doing something else for a year, so when you come back you are in learning mode. Another argument someone who is against gap years may make is that they are expensive, especially if you are looking to travel. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 68. Home Schooling Is A Good Idea You may be asking yourself, how did home schooling begin? What was it like? Well, in the 1970's and the 1980's home schooling began to spark. A few parents question whether public or private school was right for their child. They were thinking they could do a better job. Well, what do you know; parents learned they could do a better job. However, some states, prohibited home schooling. If parents or guardians were home schooling, they could face jail time as well as losing their children to the courts. Some parents were being arrested and some were taken to jail (Homeschooling: Getting Started). Even today we have people who are against home schooling. Our President of the United Stated, Obama, he doesn't believe home schooling is a good idea. He believes public school should start as soon as age 3. He also said that students in middle and high school should complete 50 hours of community service before they are able to go to the next grade level (Will Obama Use UN Policy to End Homeschooling in America?). "A crucial part of an education outside of the home is the interaction amongst the students that is used to prepare them to have constructive engagements with fellow citizens when their schooling is over. • 72. Social Justice Is A Good Ideas President Obama loves to talk about "your fair share," but have you ever heard him give a specific definition of what "your fair share" actually is? I'd like to know because it sounds so good. Is it the same amount as everyone else? Is it more than what your parents had? In a free society, is equal income for all even desirable or attainable? Can a phrase like "fair share" require any sacrifice from me? When we combine our "fair share" with the idea of "social justice" we might just have a cause here, right? Being social is a good thing. Justice is good as well. So, putting the two ideas together should be a good thing, right? Especially if we get our "fair share" of it. Yet, some still think giving free college education only brings positive outcomes. I believe we should offer free college educations, for there are many positive outcomes that outweigh the negative. However, will free college education change, not only the workforce, but all of America? "Knowledge is power" has always been an inspiring motto heard countless times in anyone's life. Free education is power to those who cannot pay for the education they deserve. The most stressful thing anyone will encounter is the idea of money, usually the thought of not having enough. If students do not have to worry about money they can shift their focus to learning and getting their schoolwork finished, on time. Not only will free education bring about power, but it will lead to more educated people. More education of the people will bring a more educated society and a better way of life. This would encourage people to focus on the higher aspect of life, such as improving issues that impact society. This will also result in a better government throughout time. Nonetheless, there are a few negative aspects to free college education. The reality of allowing everyone to have free college education would make goals harder to achieve, in the global economy. Also, the idea would cost about seventy billion per year and provide to students and families who may be able to afford a college education. Free education could also lower the quality of college ... • 78. Why Are Naps A Good Idea? I am Diana Rodriguez and I am going to prove that napping is a good idea. I think napping is a good idea because a nap can renew a person's energy. Also, naps can reduce the number of mistakes a tired person makes. First, napping can be great choice for everyone because it can probably help you from stress and maybe it can help you relax. It can take the hours you miss from sleeping and replace the hours by taking naps. You should at least take 24 minutes to improve your performance. In the article of "The Secret Truth about Napping" the text states that " A team of researchers led by David F. Dinges, a professor at the University of Pennsylvania, found that letting subjects nap for as little as 24 minutes improved their cognitive performance. So even short naps can reduce the number of mistakes a tired person makes." However, I think that taking 24 minute naps should be enough but at the same time it shouldn't. I think it should be at least 30–40 minutes because we want to be energetic when we get up and I think taking 24 minute naps might get you tired again. Napping can help you recharge your body. The text states that " On nights when you don't get sleep, napping can help to recharge your body and increase ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
