Beating Seasonal Allergies
Tips for Beating Seasonal Allergies
Fall is here and that means cooler temperatures, changing leaves, holidays, as well as triggers for
allergy sufferers. Fall allergies typically start in late August or early September, and they typically
hang around until the first frost of the season. While many people may think the spring is the time
for allergies, the fall season can be just as bad for those who suffer from allergies.
Do you suffer from seasonal allergies? You are not alone. Luckily, there are changes that can be
implemented that can make a huge difference. Don't believe us? Check out these tips for beating
seasonal allergies.
1. After a long day, the first thing you should do after you arrive home is to change your clothes.
You never ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With that in mind, before you go to bed at night, you should take a shower. Make sure you pay
special attention to your hair, and make sure you clean yourself thoroughly. You never know what
allergens could be attached to you, so make sure you clean yourself before you hit the hay.
3. While this may seem like a no–brainer, it is important that you wash your hands frequently.
Washing your hands can stop the spread of allergens, will help kill germs, and can help reduce the
spread of viruses. Remember, fall is also flu season, so take a stand against viruses and stay clean.
4. If your child has allergies, make sure you send them to school with their medication. This way
they can get relief from the new allergens they are exposed too. Before you send your child to
school with medication, make sure you inform the school. The school may have a policy where the
school's nurse will hold onto and administer your child's medication.
5. Wash your bedding frequently. Dust, dander, and other allergens can accumulate on your
bedsheets and pillowcases, so give them a good washing at least once a week. While you are at it,
make sure you keep a tidy home. By washing your sheets and throw blankets, as well as regularly
cleaning your home you can ward off any accumulating

Analysis Of The Movie ' The 1991 Beating Of Rodney King '
The 1991 beating of Rodney King by Los Angeles police provides rich case material in how an
attack perceived as unjust can backfire. George H. W. Bush said, "The last thing the leaders of Los
Angeles expected in the early 1990s was that their city would become the scene of the nation 's
deadliest urban race riot since the Civil War." The race riot that Mr. Bush is referencing are the Los
Angeles race riots that occurred as a result of Rodney King's arrest in 1991 exemplified the deep
tensions between black citizens and the police force which caused a change in police policy. Rodney
King at the age of twenty–two was on parole for beating his girlfriend while she was sleeping. King
then went on to drag her outside the house and beat her again. King was charged with battery and
pleaded "no contest." He was then placed on probation and ordered to obtain counseling. He never
got the counseling. Weeks pass and one day King enters a corner store with a tire iron. King,
swinging a tire iron, ordered a convenience store clerk to empty the cash register. The clerk grabbed
the tire iron, causing King to fall backwards and knock over a pie rack. King swung the rack at the
clerk and fled the store with two–hundred dollars. King was arrested and charged with assault with a
deadly weapon, second–degree robbery, and intent to commit great bodily injury. In an agreement,
King pleaded guilty to the robbery charge and the other charges were dropped. He was sentenced to
two years in prison,

Analysis Of The Book Beating The Street
Sam Kaleel Maryville University of St. Louis Author: Peter Lynch Publisher: Published May 25th
1994 by Simon & Schuster Edition/Format: eBook: Document: English: 1st ed "The book beating
the street is a book published by one of the most if not the most legendary money managers ever the
book talks about stocks and other forms of investments that you can utilize and make useful for your
investment endeavors. The three key aspects that are addressed in his book are: 1. Get you excited to
invest in stocks 2. It teaches you to invest in what want to you know 3. Teaches you to invest often
and avoid psychological failures His most famous investment principle is simply, "Invest in what
you know," popularizing the economic concept of "local knowledge". Since most people in this
country try to become expert in particular fields, by applying this basic motto "invest in what you
know" principle helps individual investors find good lower tiered stocks. Now Lynch uses this
principle as a starting point or guide for many investors; it's that simple. "Invest in what you know."
He has stated many of times that an individual investor is more capable of making money from
stocks than a fund manager, because they're more than capable to spot strong quality investments in
their routine as brokers. Wall Street is able to see them on a major scale. In every part of his two
major investment primer, Lynch has made a point of highlighting many of the investments he found

Aboriginal People Are A Steady Beating Heart At The Centre...
"Aboriginal people are a steady beating heart at the centre of our Australian spiritual identity."
–CAROLINE JONES
The participation and full engagement of all students in education is a 'key factor affecting the life
chances of all Australians' (Buckley & Armstrong, 2011, p. 62). It is clear from current statistical
information, that participation and eventual success in educational studies is particularly vital for
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders who among us all have the lowest level of participation in
education (Buckley & Armstrong, 2011). Ockenden (2014) notes that whilst more Indigenous
students are completing Year 12 than ever before, there still exists a significant gap between
educational achievement in literacy, numeracy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These philosophical ways of being and abiding by are supported by the Dreamtime. The Dreamtime
can be explained as 'how the world came to be' for Australia's First People, centered around 'how
people must conduct their behavior and social relations' (Broome, 2002, p. 19). There are estimated
to be 600 different Indigenous countries that exist amongst the Australian continent, all with
different ways of 'doing' (Edwards, 1998). The Dreaming is an important way of passing on
knowledge, cultural values and belief systems from generation to generation (Australian
Government, 2015). The deep connection that Aboriginal people have to their land is also an
important concept relation to the concept of The Dreaming. The land is where the events of the
dreaming occurred, with the spirit beings of The Dreaming, forming sacred parts of the Australian
landscape (Edwards, 1998, p. 81). This spiritual way of being is also linked to elaborate laws of
kinship (Phillips, 2005).
These cultural concepts have all been threatened beyond measure in the last couple of centuries due
to the invasion of Australia by European Colonists in 1788. Disposession, massacre and the forcible
removal or Indigenous children from their families are just some examples of the atrocities
committed against the Indigenous peoples and their culture. Following colonisation, systematic
massacre of Indigenous people followed with the conscious introduction of new

Pop-Music
Pop–Music – Beating and Killing Women
What would happen if you found out that a certain type of food was bad for you; would you stop
eating it? Similarly, if you found out a certain type of music was bad for you; would you stop
listening to it? Wouldn't you need proof before you make a decision? John Hamerlinck, a freelance
writer in St. Cloud, Minnesota uses this article, "Killing Women: A Pop–Music Tradition", to make
his major point of how popular music is the most common link to violence (241). Hamerlinck
voices his concern on the issues of violence in our society and has taken many stands on how
violence is generated. Hamerlinck emphasizes that even though the mainstream press seems to have

The article was written using outdated songs and without strong supporting evidence. The examples
of music he used were from the 1920's and 1980's. Hamerlinck's poor choice in music causes the
1990's audience to have difficulty relating to the point he was trying to make. Hamerlinck reveals
that from the beginning of music there has been an old folk genre known as the "murder ballad,"
which tells stories of men killing women because they have "done them wrong" (241). In many of
the songs in this genre, the music misrepresents the homicidal lyrics (241). How can this music
genre misrepresent homicidal lyrics when it is obvious to the reader that these grouping of words are
intended to express hatred toward women, enough to kill them!
Hamerlinck supports his article with random songs that have to do with violence and love, in hopes
of proving that music has an impact on it's listeners. Lonnie Johnson sang a 1920's song called
"Careless Love," in which he promises to shoot his lover numerous times and then stand over her
until she is finished dying (241). A song like Little Walter's "Boom, Boom, Out go the Lights" has a
harsh and frightening image (241). The listener may not be aware of the destructive words in the
songs because of the snappy, up–beat rhythms the artists' create. I disagree with this statement
because if this is the case, how can the listeners really not know what the

My Heart Is Beating So Fast
Dahlia My heart is beating so fast. I look around at both of their terrified faces. We are going to die.
All of us are going to die; we are going to die. I haven 't even lived yet. Life has barely begun, and it
was going to end. They both turn to me and look for an answer, but I don 't have one. Never have I
liked not knowing the answers, but this time I really don 't know. I don 't know how to react or even
what to think. All that sits in my mind is that we are going to die. Then it hits me. "El, give me two
bobby pins," I say desperately as my hands hold out shakily waiting for the pins. She looks at me in
confusion, but she eventually hands them over. I walk over to the door by the middle school. I get

voice. Footsteps disappear, but I can hear the mans deep breaths. The door opens from our left, and

out of fear. Tears softly stream down my face as I try my best to ignore them and stay silent.
Suddenly El jumps out. Shit shit shit..... she is going to die. My body is shaking as my girlfriend is
about to die. "Hey pretty thing," says the man. "Why don 't you come with me, I promise I won 't
hurt you as long as you give me what I want." "No," her voice sounds out softly. "What did you
say?" " I said no." "Aww... well to bad, I liked you a lot." He aims the gun up towards her. Then I
see Myles grab a water bottle from next to him and throw it. The man gasps in surprise from
something being thrown at him. Next thing I know, Myles runs up, grabs a weight and hit them man.
As soon at the weight makes contact with the man, a gunshot sounds. The man falls and so does
Myles. I panic I get up and run over to them. El runs over to Myles, and I start to, but I see the man
reach for the gun which fell out of his hands. I decide to grab a different weight and hit the man
again, but I don 't stop. I bring it down it on him over and over; the sounds of bones breaking slips

Beating on Against the Current Essay
Beating On Against the Current "Each of us inevitable Each of us limitless – each of us with his or
her right upon the earth, Each of us allowed the eternal purports of the earth, Each of us here as
divinely as any is here" (Whitman 27). From out of the jazz soaked streets of New York City, arose a
group of young poets and writers overwrought with the opportunity of their lives, and endeavored to
capture its girth through the honesty and vulnerability of their words. These young bohemians
would later lead the Beat Movement, which inspired young Americans throughout the county in
their search for something more than the consumerism and conformity that plagued their society.
Jack Kerouac's On the Road is a transcendent work that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many found the bleakness and insignificance of modern society enough to merit both withdrawal
and protest.
Throughout On the Road, the influence of the Beat movement's ideals on Kerouac's writing is
overtly apparent. As the narrator meanders up and down the country, both the main characters', and
the lone hitch hikers they pick up contain an attitude of restlessness which can be seen in their
actions and speak. While hitching a ride from a farmer, as Sal and Dean prepare their story to tell
the man, he stops them simply asking, "You boys going somewhere, or just going?" This so
elegantly captures the internal state of the author coming out bluntly in the work. The beat idealism
heavily places importance on personal discovery in any way possible, not necessarily knowing what
that path looks like only knowing that you must travel to reach it. Kerouac was distraught with the
complacency of living in one place, and set out with no real place to go, and as he writes in response
to the farmer "we didn't know the answer to the question, but it was a damn good question"
(Kerouac).
The 1940's, post war America was looking up, the Great Depression was just coming to an end, but
along with those that so eagerly bought into the consumerism of the time, arose a nation's youth that
was "alienated, restless, and dissatisfied." looking for something to experience in a, "frenzied
pursuit of extreme exacerbation of the nerves". (Patrick Julian).

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy : The Future Of Treating...
Beating the Blues and Cognitive Behavioral Group Therapy: The Future of Treating Depression?
Cognitive behavioral therapy is based off the theory that depression is caused by a pattern of
negative thinking that may be triggered by upsetting situations (Comer, 2013). This pattern forms
maladaptive attitudes, which cause individuals to constantly view themselves, their world, and their
future in negative ways (Comer, 2013). Cognitive behavioral therapy is designed to help clients
recognize and change their negative thoughts in an attempt to improve their mood (Comer, 2013).
This approach also uses behavioral techniques to encourage patients to become more active and try
out new behaviors (Comer, 2013). Cognitive behavioral therapy is ... Show more content on

interactive multimedia therapy to be done weekly (Barazzone, Cavanagh, & Richards, 2012).
Clients are encouraged to set goals for their time in therapy (Barazzone, Cavanagh, & Richards,
2012). At each session, the program requires the patient to record his/her progress and provides
individualized homework assignments to be completed between sessions (Barazzone, Cavanagh, &
Richards, 2012). Cognitive behavioral therapy is catered through case studies, exercises, quizzes,
interactive games, character examples, and homework assignments (Barazzone, Cavanagh, &
Richards, 2012). Beating the Blues encourages patients to put into practice what they learn each
session (Barazzone, Cavanagh, & Richards, 2012). Weekly emails are sent to each client to offer
positive feedback for work done so far, to provide homework reminders, to give an overview of
what will be learned in the next session, and to encourage continuation of the program (Barazzone,
Cavanagh, & Richards, 2012).
Beating the Blues has been shown to be effective in large randomized trials (Cavanagh et al., 2006).

Beating Of The Old Man's Heart Annotated
The title has multiple layers. Firstly, relates to the beating of the old man's heart which hastened his
death. Secondly, relates to the beating heart in the floorboard, as imagined by the narrator, which he
believed had given away his crime. Thirdly, it relates to the guilt of the narrator's actual heart, which
was the true reason why he confessed. This punny title give an insight to the readers about the
narrative and assists the reader to understand the story better because each layer of the title reveals
parts of the story.
Poe used structure and punctuation to increase the pace of the story. At the start of the story, there
were less punctuation and had more complex sentences than complex, but towards the end, as the
climax grew, more punctuations and simple sentences were used. This made the narrative fast ...

Poe capitalizes the fact that we are most vulnerable when we are asleep, and in the privacy of our
home and bed. In this extract, the room was not described in full detail, so the old man's room seems
obscure and you don't know what is inside, thus building tension and making it frightening because
you don't know what may happen. In addition, the fact that the room is so generically described, it
makes you feel like it could be anyone's room and you could be the next victim.
The narrator writes in first person to show insights of the narrator who is insane. For example "I
heard all things in the heaven and in the earth. I heard many things in hell." and "how calmly I can
tell you the whole story." clearly conveys the narrator's thoughts through first person narrative,
hence Poe can emphasise the narrator's insanity. "I heard all things in the heaven and hell" signify
that the narrator is a mad man because it is impossible to hear things from either places. In addition,
to claim to listen to things going on in heaven is not something someone normal would say and is

Analysis Of ' I Felt A Funeral
In the poem "I Felt A Funeral In My Brain" the writer is experiencing the thoughts of her own
funeral in her head. In line seven and eight it says, "Kept beating– beating– till I thought/ My mind
was going numb–" (807). The word "beating" in those lines is to me the most important word
throughout the poem because that is the representation of her life. The beating represents the
thoughts going through her head and the beating that is her heart beat. As long as the author's heart
is still beating her life will continue on, but when she brings all the negative thoughts with her it will
eventually come to an end. The word "beating" has many different ways of being backed up by the
poetic structure in the poem, like rhyme pattern, pattern of rhythm, and the diction and repetition.
How would you feel if you had the thoughts of your own funeral playing out in your head? The
caesura used in line three and line seven is another great example of one of the rhythm patterns in
this poem. End rhyme is a rhythm patterns used in this poem in stanzas two, three, and four at the
end of the first and third lines. One example is from line six and eight where it says, " A service, like
a drum– / My mind was going numb" (807). I think the reason for this end rhyme is showing the
service playing out in her head like and drum, but at the same time her body is beginning to become
numb from the thoughts. I think the author uses the end rhyme on in the middle lines for the
comparison of the way

Beating The Odds: Why One Bill Made It Through A Gridlocked
When votes in a state are counted and a majority is decided upon, whichever party has the majority,
all of the state's representative votes go to that party, and then the representatives cast their vote at
the Electoral College. States do not share an equal amount of votes. Some states have more or less
votes than others. This process leaves a problem where a candidate can win the electoral votes, but
lose the popular vote, sometimes substantially. This is why the elections would best be explained by
Pluralism and not MED, what people assume the United States operates under. Although MED

The Elite theory best helps explain another form of government being the Judicial Branch. The
Judicial Branch of government is the technical term for the Supreme Court and the Supreme Court
is the highest level of court and is looked as the interpreters of the Constitution. Their soul job is to
help clarify the Constitution when parts of the Constitution aren't so clear. The Supreme Court is
made up of nine judges selected personally by the President and are approved by Congress. None of
this is done by any outside group, you could argue however that other people somehow influence
the opinion of one person or the other on a certain decision but overall very clearly this form of
government is ran by elites. Although this branch is run by Elites that does not necessarily mean it
should be ran that way. The Supreme Court is suppose to be the interpreter of the Constitution and it
is said by Marshall, in the case Mabury vs. Madison, that the constitution is the ""the fundamental
and paramount law of the nation." This leaving the question to: Why would you want someone
deciding the law of this nation when they aren't even elected by the people they are running? Since

Beating At The Heart Of Paradise Lost Lies A Common Theme
Beating at the heart of Paradise Lost lies a common theme that Milton's God controls all. He makes
the best choices for man and his legion of angels due to His omniscient presence. Stemming from
this capacity to create life with an overarching lens, He creates the most favorable outcome for his
creations. Contrary to Milton's God's all–knowing perspective when creating Adam, in
Frankenstein, Mary Shelley estranges Victor Frankenstein from his humanity during his creation of
his monster. This validates that man should not play God because man does not have the vision to
fully understand his own actions, leading to chaos and violence when he attempts to create life.
Shelley initially conveys the consequences of playing God through the ... Show more content on

Disparate to Milton's God, Victor cannot see his deteriorating humanity and the consequences of his
obsession to make"a mummy imbued with animation". This validates his lack of the omniscient lens
Milton's God uses to create life and govern the universe successfully, proving that a mere mortal
should not play at being a God a bit confusing––clean up a bit(59). Due to Victor 's morality
inhibiting a fruitful facade as Milton 's God, his creation of the monster inevitability fosters
pandemonium not only in his own life, but wreaks havoc in those around him. Specifically, the
treacherous monster killing Victor's brother William by "[grasping] his throat to silence him, and in
a moment he lay dead at [his] feet" explicates the brutal outcomes when the creator of life cannot
visualize the effect his creation will have on others. Victor consumed himself with this illusion of
being God, blinding himself to the monster's capacity to turn into a violent, impassioned creature
whose heart would "swell with exultation and hellish triumph"(153) at depriving another being of
their life. Shelley emphasizes this violence with the savage diction of "hellish triumph" and "swell"
to fully convey the spreading effect of chaos from Victor's failed action to play God. Through the
allusion to hell, Shelley also creates an image of Victor's actions

Analysis Of The King Beating Trials
In the 1996 case Koon v. United States, four white police officers were accused of using excessive
force to arrest African–American, Rodney King, igniting claims of racism and police brutality. 1991
was a short 27 years after civil rights had been established and racism was still a prevalent factor in
the streets of Los Angeles. Donna Batten states that, "The controversy surrounding each of these
actions raised the issues of race, racism, and police brutality in communities throughout the United
States" (Batten). The King Beating Trials promoted the idea that race meant people should be
treated differently, and tensions rose. Relations between police and civil rights activists were
plummeting after receiving national media coverage of police brutality. Megan Condino, author of
African American Eras: Contemporary Times, reports that, "there were several well–publicized
incidents of police assaulting peaceful demonstrators [and] clubbing and setting their dogs on child
picketers" (Condino "Police Brutality"). The strain between police and the people created much
anger and distrust during the trial The feelings and tensions across the nation strongly influenced the
verdict of the King Beating Trials.
On March 3, 1991, four white police officers started beating 27 year old Rodney King after pulling
him over for drunk driving. Two of the officers involved with the arrest of King had histories with
violence towards suspects. Douglas Linder, professor of law at the University of Missouri at Kansas
City states, "Los Angeles had settled one excessive force claim against Powell for $70,000 ..." and
"Briseno had once earlier been charged with using excessive force" (Linder "Key Figures"). Half of
the police officers involved were previously charged with the use of excessive force, the same
charge brought up by the Rodney King Beating Trials. A video, captured by George Holliday
showed most of the beating by the police officers, and was a major source of testimony in the trial.
African American Eras: Contemporary Times claims that, "Holliday recorded an arrest scene in
which the officers beat King with their nightsticks at least fifty–six times" (Condino "Black
Community").The officers did not originally know this video

A Letter From The Story, Meleager And The Boar
I choose to write a letter from the point of view of Meleager 's mother, Althaea from the story,
"Meleager and the Boar". I choose this story because of the strong message of how significant
family is to the Greeks and the ties between blood and loyalty. The emotions portrayed throughout
the story of the conflict between Althaea and Meleager leads to a tragic end and allows the reader to
understand the importance of family and how betrayal is not taken lightly even if you 're connected
by blood. Betrayal is not easily forgiven and Althaea shows this through her actions of vengeance
towards her own son for the deaths of her brothers. I really found it interesting how Althaea reacted

Excuse my poor manners dear reader, I haven't been myself in quite awhile. Let me start from the
beginning of this sorry tale. Only then may I be judged for my actions.
My son, Meleager was just a few days old when I was visited by the ones we call the Fates. I held
my son close to my breast uncertain of what my child's fate would be. Would he be destined for a
long and joyous life, bringing honor to the family name? Or would he perish in my arms, hardly
catching a glimpse of this miraculous gift we call life? One by one each sister foretold how my
beautiful son would become a heroic and a brave man. My heart swelled with pride as I heard the
great deeds my own blood would accomplish in the future. But my pride was quickly replaced with
horror when the last sister spoke of how my little ones life was tied to the stick that burnt in the
hearth. Once the fire consumed it, so too would my sons' life be extinguished from this world. With
haste I doused the stick with water, ensuring the life of my son was kept in safe hands, protected
from the grasp of Hades. I knew I would do anything to protect my son. After all isn't that my job as
a mother, It wasn't till years later that I understood what the Fates were telling me.
I remember it clearly. My golden robes fluttered in the wind as I rushed to the temple to express my
gratitude to the gods for my son's fortunate victory against the great boar. But my happiness was not

twentieth century when considering the tension between African Americans and white police
officers in the last two centuries. It seemed that the beating and the effect that it had on the world as
a whole embodied society's feelings concerning the idea of discrimination. The fact that Rodney
King was African American and that white police officers used unnecessary force when trying to
apprehend him made it possible for people to understand that even though the social order had
experienced important progress in recent years, the race matter continued to be divisive. A team of
the Los Angeles Police Department followed King for approximately eight miles as he was speeding
within city limits. Consequent to capturing him as a result of another crew interfering, the police
officers drew an aggressive King out of his car and the fact that he was resisting arrest influenced
them to proceed with using extreme force involving "striking him with a baton 56 times and
forcefully kicking him six times" (Rodney King beating 1). An individual who was living nearby the
scene of the event filmed most of the scene and made it possible for the whole world to see the
length to which the officers were willing to go in order to prove their point. This generated mass
criticism throughout the world and influenced people to look at the racial problem from a different
perspective. While it seems perfectly

Race And Rage : The Beating Of Rodney King
Race and Rage: The Beating of Rodney King was a documentary about just that, the beating of
Rodney King and the Chicago Riots that were a result. In 1991 Rodney King was chased by cops
for several miles before finally pulling over in a parking lot. He was then beaten almost to death by
police and the entire incident was recorded by a resident in a nearby apartment. Chicago riots begin
in 1992 due to the police brutality incident. The damage to the city was immeasurable and finally
King came on and said he just wanted it to all be over. I feel this was a very brave and mature thing
for him to do. The amount of force taken by the police on him that night is ridiculous and
unnecessary. I do believe indicting the two police most involved in the beating was fair and the right
thing to do. The riots however were too out of hand and ridiculous. Chapter 13 in our book is about
the criminal justice system and a huge part of the chapter is the use of force and police brutality. The
book states that roughtly 22% of all law enforcement admit to using excessive force on occasion.
However, only 11% say that they were more likely to use excessive force on someone of racial
minority and only 14% were likely to do the same on poorer individuals. This being said I believe it
is safe to say that most of the time people do not want to admit to discriminating against specific
individuals. The main problem with racial discrimination and profiling done by police is typically it

The Paranomia Of A Heartbeat In The Tell-Tale Heart By...
The Paranomia of a Heartbeat In the story "The Tell–Tale Heart" by Edgar Allan Poe, many
different elements throughout the story symbolize different ideas. Throughout the story, the narrator
is shown to be paranoid and insane. The heartbeat that the narrator continued to hear throughout
different times drove him to the point that he eventually confessed to what he had done and turned
himself in. The heartbeat has such a major effect on the narrator it shows the real person that he is.
The beating of the narrator's heart in the story "The Tell Tale Heart" symbolizes the narrator's
paranomia and his insanity. During the eighth night while the narrator is watching the old man's eye,
he hears a loud thumping sound and believes it is the old man's heart beating very loudly. It turns
out that the loud thumping sound is actually his own heartbeat, but he never seems to realize that it
is. It is beating so loud because the narrator is so paranoid that the neighbors would hear the beating
and would be suspicious. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

"There is a direct company–customer contact–based relationship."(Moores, 1986) This experience
helps hotels achieve distinction against competitors. But at the same time "the communicated value
proposition of the brand has to be clear–cut so that potential guests are able to identify the
advantage of a hotel in comparison to its competitors" (Daun and Klinger, Delivering the message,
2006).Apart from communication through words, pictures and logos should also be redesigned in
order to make an everlasting connection with the guest.
"For hotel chains wanting to satisfy the needs of guests and beat the competition, then building a
psycho brand provides an opportunity which if realized, could do not only this but also defy the test
of time." (Mehta Gautam, December 17, 2003)
Perceptions of brands in the minds of the consumer are formed on the basis of the four main
functions of the brain–thinking, sensation, intuition and feeling. Psycho branding is supported by
three concepts–
Goodyear's Model of Brand Evolution: Brands act as extensions of the personality. Incorporation of
personal characteristics into the brand makes it more appealing to guests.
Moment of Identity: The modern guest tries to match her own identity with the identity she relates
to the brand.
Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs: It is the driving force for choosing any brand, the one which
identifies with self actualisation.

Market Analysis : Beating The Market
"Beating the market" is a difficult phrase to analyze. An investor, portfolio manager, fund or other
investment specialist produces a better return than the market average. The market average can be
calculated in many ways, but usually a benchmark, such as the S&P 500 or the Dow Jones Industrial
Average index, is a good representation of the market average. If your returns exceed the percentage
return of the chosen benchmark, you have beaten the market. Generally speaking, we totally cannot
beat the market since investment fees are one major barrier to beating the market. If you take the
popular advice to invest in an S&P 500 index fund, your investment will perform identically to the
S&P 500 and investment fees will be subtracted from those returns, preventing you from beating the
market. Look for funds with ultra–low fees of 0.1 to 0.2% annually and you 'll be close to equaling
the market. Taxes are another major barrier to beating the market. When you pay tax on your
investment returns, you lose a significant percentage of your profit –15% or more, depending on
your holding period. Investor psychology presents a third barrier to beating the market. People have
a tendency to buy high and sell low because they 're inclined to buy when the market is performing
well and they sell out of fear when the market starts to drop. This buying and selling behavior makes
it impossible to beat the market. In financial economics, the efficient–market hypothesis (EMH)
states that it is

The Beating Heart Of The Seven Gables
The Beating Heart of The House of the Seven Gables Nathaniel Hawthorne extensively weaves
symbolism into the pages of The House of the Seven Gables to bring the house and the items within
it to life. The use of gothic elements within the house directly reflects upon the decaying of the
Pyncheon family. Their once lively home stands as a constant reminder of the family's legacy. The
Pyncheon mansion strongly represents the decaying of the Pyncheon family over time. In the early
1800's, when the house was first built, the Pyncheons were a thriving, wealthy, and influential
family. However, as time goes on, the house starts to become an eerie residence in the same way the
Pyncheon's glory fades. The author describes the darkness of the ... Show more content on

Hepzibah realizes the contrast between the two of them, and on Clifford's return demands Phoebe to
greet him first by saying, "Pheobe; for you are young and rosy, and cannot help letting a smile break
out whether or no. He always liked bright faces! And mine is old now, the tears are hardly dry on it"
(page 70). In the yard outside the house stands an overgrown elm tree symbolizing the growth of the
darkness in the Pyncheon family. The great tree blocks the sun from shining into the home.
Hawthorne symbolizes this as the burden and secrets that cast a dark shadow over the family. When
the tree first sprouts upon the lawn and grows, beauty radiates from it in the same way the
Pyncheons first radiate their glory. Inside the house remains the memory of Alice Pyncheon found
within her coffin–like harpsichord. The harpsichord plays beautiful melodies that still echo through
the house. They serve as a constant reminder of Alice's spirit. However, the instrument representing
a coffin reminds those who wonder about Alice 's legacy of her tragic ending. By using a coffin–like
harpsichord, Hawthorne employs a dual symbol to an item. Much like how the house causes unease
to those who dare glance in its direction, the painting of Colonel Pyncheon lets off the same
threatening vibe. The glare the old Pyncheon holds in the portrait keeps people who observe the
artwork from attempting to remove it from the wall. Hawthorne writes, "there

Meter and Rhythm Described in My Papa's Waltz
My Papa 's Waltz" In Theodor Roethke 's "My Papa 's waltz" the
reader finds a horrid experiance, the beating of a child by his father,
which is told in a way of a romantic and beutifull dance – the waltz. The
feeling one get from reading this poem is that the narrator, at least at
the time in which the poem is written, does not look at this experience as
something bad. He tries to beutify the experience by making it a waltz. He
also, by means of images and rythem, shows the conflict between the
readers, or the way any other 'normal ' man will look at this experiance,
and how he sees it, or wants it to be seen ( although he does not show his
father as completley innocent). It can also be looked upon as the Petty
Herst syndrom – ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One accusing finger does rise, and that is toward the
mother, who " Could not unfrown " her " countenance ", as if the poet 's
mother does not react in order to maintain this or that frown that will
leave her 'undignified ', as if stopping his father from beating him is not
of her duties – putting the blame away from his father. Another
explanation, farfetched as it may sound, is that of the Petty Herst
syndrom. The meaning of this syndrom is that one may enter into a state of
life,a 'reality ', that no matter how brutal or harsh it may be, once it is
in his mind as an absolute reality, this reality will look as the most
suitable reality, escape is not needable, and even when the person leaves
this reality it will still, in retrospective, be the best situation he was
ever been. It is possible that the narrator in this poem is 'afflicted ' by
this syndrome. He defends his father because to him it seems that this is
the reality he should be in. He describes the beatings as a waltz beacause
he sees it as such. Although the poem is narrated retrospectively,
from a grown up man point of view, something remains, the poet does not
hate his father for the beating, on the contrary, he shows us that the
love to his father is not, and never was lost. And twice during the poem –
he talks about " But I hung on " in the first stanza, and " Still clinging
to your shirt." in the fourth stanza,

Many or all men beat or hit their wives, it's wrong to it your wife they are not made for war and or a
beating. The first offence for hitting or beating your wife is getting your thumb cut off.
The punishment may vary on how bad they are beaten, if any blood is drawn they will be whipped
until they bleed. If there are bruises they will be hit with a stick until they are black and blue.
If the wife wants to leave the household she has a choice to, and may divorce. The second offence
on their wife is getting your hand cut off, it will be your dominant hand. The wife and child will be
taken from the household, and the husband will taken to "the hole"

A Letter From The Story, Meleager And The Boar
I choose to write a letter from the point of view of Meleager 's mother, Althaea from the story,
"Meleager and the Boar". I choose this story because of the strong message of how significant
family is to the Greeks and the ties between blood and loyalty. The emotions portrayed throughout
the story of the conflict between Althaea and Meleager leads to a tragic end and allows the reader to
understand the importance of family and how betrayal is not taken lightly even if you 're connected

beginning of this sorry tale.

The Police Portraying Of Manney King : The Body Beatings...
Law enforcement's main goal of implementing the body cameras is to obtain live images of how
things really happen in the criminal world. Police officers confront criminals on a daily basis, and
put themselves at risk of being attacked and in worst cases, shot to death. On the other hand, there
have been cases of police officers acting inadequately and carelessly towards civilians. By recording
police–citizen encounters, judges, reporters, police supervisors, an others can get objective evidence
rather than self–serving hearsay. One of the most famous cases where police officers abused of their
power is "The police beating of Rodney King". Rodney King was a taxi driver that at the time was
being pursued by the police. Once King got off the car, the Los Angeles police officers brutally
clubbed and kicked King close to 60 times, while other law enforcement officers stared. According
to the judge in trial, there had been no crime committed by the police, therefore, the case was
suspended. Subsequently, someone who had filmed the entire event, spread the video to the news
and social media, which led to a social riot in the 1960s. The beating of Rodney King caused
controversy in the United States because King was Afro American and the police officer use of
excessive force acts were discovered by the jury to have surged from racist principles. There was a
recent case in which a police officer pulled over a civilian and as the officer approached the driver's

Being officers of the law it is their job to follow orders from superiors, this is how police
organizations operate all over the country. Without a structured hierarchy officers would have
leeway to do whatever they please which would likely cause chaos. Despite this it must be analyzed
at to what degree was the assault, if it was blatantly too harsh then the officers could not use a "just
following orders" defense as this has already been established through the Nuremberg trials.
Although these trials were for a much more severe crimes they set a precedent that this could not be
used as a defense if the crime is too Hyannis. The Nuremberg defense was most famously used by

Wife Beatinging In Edgar Allan Poe's The Black Cat
Wife beating is an act that is entirely intolerable and scrutinized by all members of society, the law,
and essentially by those who are beaten by their husband or significant other. However, during the
era of the 19th century, the United States was in a low point, by today's standards, when it comes to
the abuse and mistreatment of the wife. As men were treated higher up in societal standards, women
were treated as lesser members of society when it amounts to the marriage of man and wife. During
most of this century, women gave up their abilities to "fight in court against their husband" due to
their legal status merging with their spouse; furthermore, this allows the husband ability to verbally
and physically abuse their spouse to an extent known in this period as "chastisement" (Reva Siegel).
Not only was this acceptable in the terms of society but as well as the law; men were "masters of the
household" and were allowed by law to give "corporal punishment" to their wife to establish and
maintain "domestic harmony." The socio–legal vulnerability of wives to domestic violence was to
an extreme and was more common among the lower–class citizens of society. Edgar Allan Poe's
"The Black Cat" (1843) thematically posits two causes of wife–beating in early 19th century
America: male intemperance and male patriarchal insecurity. One example of wife–beating in early
19th century America thematically posited in Poe's "The Black Cat" (1834) is male intemperance.

The Tell Tale Heart Essay
The Symbolism of a Beating Heart With a descriptive epistle of murder and insanity, "The Tell Tale
Heart" threw itself into history as a classic. The narrator tells of his plot to murder an old man with a
"vulture eye." Although he sneaks into his bedroom, night after night, he still cannot murder the old
man, because he loves the man, but hates the eye. When seeing the vulture eye on the eighth night,
he murders the old man and dismembers his body. While insisting upon his sanity he hears the old
man's heart beating under the floorboard. Because of a neighbor's complaint, the police show up to
investigate, but he quickly quells their suspicion with his smooth talk and calmness. If the heart
stopped its loud beating, the murderer would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, because murder inevitably follows the meeting of their eyes, the narrator hears the heart
beating faster. "I say, there came to my ears a low, dull, quick sound... It was the beating of the old
man's heart. It increased my fury as the beating of a drum stimulates the soldier into courage" (Poe
1207). As it beats faster and faster, it pushes him further into his insanity. Hearing it beat so loudly,
he believes not only will it burst, but also the neighbors will hear it. Thus, the insane man rushes
headlong into the hideous act. "But the beating grew louder, louder! I thought the heart must burst.
And now a new anxiety seized me –– the sound would be heard by a neighbor! The old man's hour
had come!" (Poe 1207–1208). Taking the part of his conscience telling him to tell the truth about the
old man's death, the lunatic hears the heart beating under the floorboard when the officers come into
his house. Because the guilt was too much to bear, the heart, in a sense, tricked him into turning
himself in. Thus, he cracked and could not withstand the sheer pressure. "'Villains!' I shrieked,
'dissemble no more! I admit the deed! –– tear up the planks! –– here, here! –– it is the beating of his
hideous heart!'" (Poe 1209). Although he planned the old man's murder and kept everything under
control, he did not factor in what his guilt would do. His

Fall allergies typically start in late August or early September, and they typically hang around until the first frost of the season. While many people may think the spring is the time for allergies, the fall season can be just as bad for those who suffer from allergies. Do you suffer from seasonal allergies? You are not alone. Luckily, there are changes that can be implemented that can make a huge difference. Don't believe us? Check out these tips for beating seasonal allergies. 1. After a long day, the first thing you should do after you arrive home is to change your clothes. You never ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With that in mind, before you go to bed at night, you should take a shower. Make sure you pay special attention to your hair, and make sure you clean yourself thoroughly. You never know what allergens could be attached to you, so make sure you clean yourself before you hit the hay. 3. While this may seem like a no–brainer, it is important that you wash your hands frequently. Washing your hands can stop the spread of allergens, will help kill germs, and can help reduce the spread of viruses. Remember, fall is also flu season, so take a stand against viruses and stay clean. 4. If your child has allergies, make sure you send them to school with their medication. This way they can get relief from the new allergens they are exposed too. Before you send your child to school with medication, make sure you inform the school. The school may have a policy where the school's nurse will hold onto and administer your child's medication. 5. Wash your bedding frequently. Dust, dander, and other allergens can accumulate on your bedsheets and pillowcases, so give them a good washing at least once a week. While you are at it, make sure you keep a tidy home. • 2. Analysis Of The Movie ' The 1991 Beating Of Rodney King ' The 1991 beating of Rodney King by Los Angeles police provides rich case material in how an attack perceived as unjust can backfire. George H. W. Bush said, "The last thing the leaders of Los Angeles expected in the early 1990s was that their city would become the scene of the nation 's deadliest urban race riot since the Civil War." The race riot that Mr. Bush is referencing are the Los Angeles race riots that occurred as a result of Rodney King's arrest in 1991 exemplified the deep tensions between black citizens and the police force which caused a change in police policy. Rodney King at the age of twenty–two was on parole for beating his girlfriend while she was sleeping. King then went on to drag her outside the house and beat her again. King was charged with battery and pleaded "no contest." He was then placed on probation and ordered to obtain counseling. He never got the counseling. Weeks pass and one day King enters a corner store with a tire iron. King, swinging a tire iron, ordered a convenience store clerk to empty the cash register. The clerk grabbed the tire iron, causing King to fall backwards and knock over a pie rack. King swung the rack at the clerk and fled the store with two–hundred dollars. King was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon, second–degree robbery, and intent to commit great bodily injury. In an agreement, King pleaded guilty to the robbery charge and the other charges were dropped. He was sentenced to two years in prison, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Analysis Of The Book Beating The Street Sam Kaleel Maryville University of St. Louis Author: Peter Lynch Publisher: Published May 25th 1994 by Simon & Schuster Edition/Format: eBook: Document: English: 1st ed "The book beating the street is a book published by one of the most if not the most legendary money managers ever the book talks about stocks and other forms of investments that you can utilize and make useful for your investment endeavors. The three key aspects that are addressed in his book are: 1. Get you excited to invest in stocks 2. It teaches you to invest in what want to you know 3. Teaches you to invest often and avoid psychological failures His most famous investment principle is simply, "Invest in what you know," popularizing the economic concept of "local knowledge". Since most people in this country try to become expert in particular fields, by applying this basic motto "invest in what you know" principle helps individual investors find good lower tiered stocks. Now Lynch uses this principle as a starting point or guide for many investors; it's that simple. "Invest in what you know." He has stated many of times that an individual investor is more capable of making money from stocks than a fund manager, because they're more than capable to spot strong quality investments in their routine as brokers. Wall Street is able to see them on a major scale. In every part of his two major investment primer, Lynch has made a point of highlighting many of the investments he found when not in ... "Aboriginal people are a steady beating heart at the centre of our Australian spiritual identity." –CAROLINE JONES The participation and full engagement of all students in education is a 'key factor affecting the life chances of all Australians' (Buckley & Armstrong, 2011, p. 62). It is clear from current statistical information, that participation and eventual success in educational studies is particularly vital for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders who among us all have the lowest level of participation in education (Buckley & Armstrong, 2011). Ockenden (2014) notes that whilst more Indigenous students are completing Year 12 than ever before, there still exists a significant gap between educational achievement in literacy, numeracy ... The Dreamtime can be explained as 'how the world came to be' for Australia's First People, centered around 'how people must conduct their behavior and social relations' (Broome, 2002, p. 19). There are estimated to be 600 different Indigenous countries that exist amongst the Australian continent, all with different ways of 'doing' (Edwards, 1998). The Dreaming is an important way of passing on knowledge, cultural values and belief systems from generation to generation (Australian Government, 2015). The deep connection that Aboriginal people have to their land is also an important concept relation to the concept of The Dreaming. The land is where the events of the dreaming occurred, with the spirit beings of The Dreaming, forming sacred parts of the Australian landscape (Edwards, 1998, p. 81). This spiritual way of being is also linked to elaborate laws of kinship (Phillips, 2005). These cultural concepts have all been threatened beyond measure in the last couple of centuries due to the invasion of Australia by European Colonists in 1788. Disposession, massacre and the forcible removal or Indigenous children from their families are just some examples of the atrocities committed against the Indigenous peoples and their culture. Similarly, if you found out a certain type of music was bad for you; would you stop listening to it? Wouldn't you need proof before you make a decision? John Hamerlinck, a freelance writer in St. Cloud, Minnesota uses this article, "Killing Women: A Pop–Music Tradition", to make his major point of how popular music is the most common link to violence (241). Hamerlinck's poor choice in music causes the 1990's audience to have difficulty relating to the point he was trying to make. Hamerlinck reveals that from the beginning of music there has been an old folk genre known as the "murder ballad," which tells stories of men killing women because they have "done them wrong" (241). In many of the songs in this genre, the music misrepresents the homicidal lyrics (241). How can this music genre misrepresent homicidal lyrics when it is obvious to the reader that these grouping of words are intended to express hatred toward women, enough to kill them! Hamerlinck supports his article with random songs that have to do with violence and love, in hopes of proving that music has an impact on it's listeners. Lonnie Johnson sang a 1920's song called "Careless Love," in which he promises to shoot his lover numerous times and then stand over her until she is finished dying (241). A song like Little Walter's "Boom, Boom, Out go the Lights" has a harsh and frightening image (241). The listener may not be aware of the destructive words in the songs because of the snappy, up–beat rhythms the artists' create. I disagree with this statement because if this is the case, how can the listeners really not know what the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

From out of the jazz soaked streets of New York City, arose a group of young poets and writers overwrought with the opportunity of their lives, and endeavored to capture its girth through the honesty and vulnerability of their words. Many found the bleakness and insignificance of modern society enough to merit both withdrawal and protest. Throughout On the Road, the influence of the Beat movement's ideals on Kerouac's writing is overtly apparent. As the narrator meanders up and down the country, both the main characters', and the lone hitch hikers they pick up contain an attitude of restlessness which can be seen in their actions and speak. While hitching a ride from a farmer, as Sal and Dean prepare their story to tell the man, he stops them simply asking, "You boys going somewhere, or just going?" This so elegantly captures the internal state of the author coming out bluntly in the work. The beat idealism heavily places importance on personal discovery in any way possible, not necessarily knowing what that path looks like only knowing that you must travel to reach it. Kerouac was distraught with the complacency of living in one place, and set out with no real place to go, and as he writes in response to the farmer "we didn't know the answer to the question, but it was a damn good question" (Kerouac). The 1940's, post war America was looking up, the Great Depression was just coming to an end, but along with those that so eagerly bought into the consumerism of the time, arose a nation's youth that was "alienated, restless, and dissatisfied." looking for something to experience in a, "frenzied pursuit of extreme exacerbation of the nerves". Cognitive behavioral therapy is based off the theory that depression is caused by a pattern of negative thinking that may be triggered by upsetting situations (Comer, 2013). This pattern forms maladaptive attitudes, which cause individuals to constantly view themselves, their world, and their future in negative ways (Comer, 2013). Cognitive behavioral therapy is designed to help clients recognize and change their negative thoughts in an attempt to improve their mood (Comer, 2013). • 11. Beating Of The Old Man's Heart Annotated The title has multiple layers. Firstly, relates to the beating of the old man's heart which hastened his death. Secondly, relates to the beating heart in the floorboard, as imagined by the narrator, which he believed had given away his crime. Thirdly, it relates to the guilt of the narrator's actual heart, which was the true reason why he confessed. This punny title give an insight to the readers about the narrative and assists the reader to understand the story better because each layer of the title reveals parts of the story. Poe used structure and punctuation to increase the pace of the story. At the start of the story, there were less punctuation and had more complex sentences than complex, but towards the end, as the climax grew, more punctuations and simple sentences were used. In this extract, the room was not described in full detail, so the old man's room seems obscure and you don't know what is inside, thus building tension and making it frightening because you don't know what may happen. In addition, the fact that the room is so generically described, it makes you feel like it could be anyone's room and you could be the next victim. The narrator writes in first person to show insights of the narrator who is insane. For example "I heard all things in the heaven and in the earth. I heard many things in hell." and "how calmly I can tell you the whole story." clearly conveys the narrator's thoughts through first person narrative, hence Poe can emphasise the narrator's insanity. • 12. Analysis Of ' I Felt A Funeral In the poem "I Felt A Funeral In My Brain" the writer is experiencing the thoughts of her own funeral in her head. In line seven and eight it says, "Kept beating– beating– till I thought/ My mind was going numb–" (807). The word "beating" in those lines is to me the most important word throughout the poem because that is the representation of her life. The beating represents the thoughts going through her head and the beating that is her heart beat. As long as the author's heart is still beating her life will continue on, but when she brings all the negative thoughts with her it will eventually come to an end. The word "beating" has many different ways of being backed up by the poetic structure in the poem, like rhyme pattern, pattern of rhythm, and the diction and repetition. How would you feel if you had the thoughts of your own funeral playing out in your head? The caesura used in line three and line seven is another great example of one of the rhythm patterns in this poem. End rhyme is a rhythm patterns used in this poem in stanzas two, three, and four at the end of the first and third lines. One example is from line six and eight where it says, " A service, like a drum– / My mind was going numb" (807). I think the reason for this end rhyme is showing the service playing out in her head like and drum, but at the same time her body is beginning to become numb from the thoughts. I think the author uses the end rhyme on in the middle lines for the comparison of the way ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He makes the best choices for man and his legion of angels due to His omniscient presence. Stemming from this capacity to create life with an overarching lens, He creates the most favorable outcome for his creations. Contrary to Milton's God's all–knowing perspective when creating Adam, in Frankenstein, Mary Shelley estranges Victor Frankenstein from his humanity during his creation of his monster. This validates that man should not play God because man does not have the vision to fully understand his own actions, leading to chaos and violence when he attempts to create life. Disparate to Milton's God, Victor cannot see his deteriorating humanity and the consequences of his obsession to make"a mummy imbued with animation". This validates his lack of the omniscient lens Milton's God uses to create life and govern the universe successfully, proving that a mere mortal should not play at being a God a bit confusing––clean up a bit(59). Due to Victor 's morality inhibiting a fruitful facade as Milton 's God, his creation of the monster inevitability fosters pandemonium not only in his own life, but wreaks havoc in those around him. Specifically, the treacherous monster killing Victor's brother William by "[grasping] his throat to silence him, and in a moment he lay dead at [his] feet" explicates the brutal outcomes when the creator of life cannot visualize the effect his creation will have on others. Victor consumed himself with this illusion of being God, blinding himself to the monster's capacity to turn into a violent, impassioned creature whose heart would "swell with exultation and hellish triumph"(153) at depriving another being of their life. Shelley emphasizes this violence with the savage diction of "hellish triumph" and "swell" to fully convey the spreading effect of chaos from Victor's failed action to play God. • 17. Analysis Of The King Beating Trials In the 1996 case Koon v. United States, four white police officers were accused of using excessive force to arrest African–American, Rodney King, igniting claims of racism and police brutality. 1991 was a short 27 years after civil rights had been established and racism was still a prevalent factor in the streets of Los Angeles. Donna Batten states that, "The controversy surrounding each of these actions raised the issues of race, racism, and police brutality in communities throughout the United States" (Batten). The King Beating Trials promoted the idea that race meant people should be treated differently, and tensions rose. Relations between police and civil rights activists were plummeting after receiving national media coverage of police brutality. Megan Condino, author of African American Eras: Contemporary Times, reports that, "there were several well–publicized incidents of police assaulting peaceful demonstrators [and] clubbing and setting their dogs on child picketers" (Condino "Police Brutality"). The strain between police and the people created much anger and distrust during the trial The feelings and tensions across the nation strongly influenced the verdict of the King Beating Trials. On March 3, 1991, four white police officers started beating 27 year old Rodney King after pulling him over for drunk driving. Two of the officers involved with the arrest of King had histories with violence towards suspects. Douglas Linder, professor of law at the University of Missouri at Kansas City states, "Los Angeles had settled one excessive force claim against Powell for $70,000 ..." and "Briseno had once earlier been charged with using excessive force" (Linder "Key Figures"). Half of the police officers involved were previously charged with the use of excessive force, the same charge brought up by the Rodney King Beating Trials. A video, captured by George Holliday showed most of the beating by the police officers, and was a major source of testimony in the trial. • 19. Circumstances Leading to Rodney King's Beating Question1 The 1991 Rodney King beating was one of the most significant events of the late twentieth century when considering the tension between African Americans and white police officers in the last two centuries. It seemed that the beating and the effect that it had on the world as a whole embodied society's feelings concerning the idea of discrimination. The fact that Rodney King was African American and that white police officers used unnecessary force when trying to apprehend him made it possible for people to understand that even though the social order had experienced important progress in recent years, the race matter continued to be divisive. A team of the Los Angeles Police Department followed King for approximately eight miles as he was speeding within city limits. Consequent to capturing him as a result of another crew interfering, the police officers drew an aggressive King out of his car and the fact that he was resisting arrest influenced them to proceed with using extreme force involving "striking him with a baton 56 times and forcefully kicking him six times" (Rodney King beating 1). An individual who was living nearby the scene of the event filmed most of the scene and made it possible for the whole world to see the length to which the officers were willing to go in order to prove their point. He was then beaten almost to death by police and the entire incident was recorded by a resident in a nearby apartment. Chicago riots begin in 1992 due to the police brutality incident. The damage to the city was immeasurable and finally King came on and said he just wanted it to all be over. I feel this was a very brave and mature thing for him to do. The amount of force taken by the police on him that night is ridiculous and unnecessary. I do believe indicting the two police most involved in the beating was fair and the right thing to do. The riots however were too out of hand and ridiculous. Chapter 13 in our book is about the criminal justice system and a huge part of the chapter is the use of force and police brutality. The book states that roughtly 22% of all law enforcement admit to using excessive force on occasion. However, only 11% say that they were more likely to use excessive force on someone of racial minority and only 14% were likely to do the same on poorer individuals. • 23. Market Analysis : Beating The Market "Beating the market" is a difficult phrase to analyze. An investor, portfolio manager, fund or other investment specialist produces a better return than the market average. The market average can be calculated in many ways, but usually a benchmark, such as the S&P 500 or the Dow Jones Industrial Average index, is a good representation of the market average. If your returns exceed the percentage return of the chosen benchmark, you have beaten the market. Generally speaking, we totally cannot beat the market since investment fees are one major barrier to beating the market. If you take the popular advice to invest in an S&P 500 index fund, your investment will perform identically to the S&P 500 and investment fees will be subtracted from those returns, preventing you from beating the market. Look for funds with ultra–low fees of 0.1 to 0.2% annually and you 'll be close to equaling the market. Taxes are another major barrier to beating the market. When you pay tax on your investment returns, you lose a significant percentage of your profit –15% or more, depending on your holding period. Investor psychology presents a third barrier to beating the market. People have a tendency to buy high and sell low because they 're inclined to buy when the market is performing well and they sell out of fear when the market starts to drop. This buying and selling behavior makes it impossible to beat the market. In financial economics, the efficient–market hypothesis (EMH) states that it is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 25. The Beating Heart Of The Seven Gables The Beating Heart of The House of the Seven Gables Nathaniel Hawthorne extensively weaves symbolism into the pages of The House of the Seven Gables to bring the house and the items within it to life. The use of gothic elements within the house directly reflects upon the decaying of the Pyncheon family. Their once lively home stands as a constant reminder of the family's legacy. The Pyncheon mansion strongly represents the decaying of the Pyncheon family over time. In the early 1800's, when the house was first built, the Pyncheons were a thriving, wealthy, and influential family. However, as time goes on, the house starts to become an eerie residence in the same way the Pyncheon's glory fades. The author describes the darkness of the ... Hepzibah realizes the contrast between the two of them, and on Clifford's return demands Phoebe to greet him first by saying, "Pheobe; for you are young and rosy, and cannot help letting a smile break out whether or no. He always liked bright faces! And mine is old now, the tears are hardly dry on it" (page 70). In the yard outside the house stands an overgrown elm tree symbolizing the growth of the darkness in the Pyncheon family. The great tree blocks the sun from shining into the home. Hawthorne symbolizes this as the burden and secrets that cast a dark shadow over the family. When the tree first sprouts upon the lawn and grows, beauty radiates from it in the same way the Pyncheons first radiate their glory. Inside the house remains the memory of Alice Pyncheon found within her coffin–like harpsichord. The harpsichord plays beautiful melodies that still echo through the house. They serve as a constant reminder of Alice's spirit. However, the instrument representing a coffin reminds those who wonder about Alice 's legacy of her tragic ending. By using a coffin–like harpsichord, Hawthorne employs a dual symbol to an item. Much like how the house causes unease to those who dare glance in its direction, the painting of Colonel Pyncheon lets off the same threatening vibe. The glare the old Pyncheon holds in the portrait keeps people who observe the artwork from attempting to remove it from the wall. Hawthorne writes, "there ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Meter and Rhythm Described in My Papa's Waltz My Papa 's Waltz" In Theodor Roethke 's "My Papa 's waltz" the reader finds a horrid experiance, the beating of a child by his father, which is told in a way of a romantic and beutifull dance – the waltz. The feeling one get from reading this poem is that the narrator, at least at the time in which the poem is written, does not look at this experience as something bad. He tries to beutify the experience by making it a waltz. He also, by means of images and rythem, shows the conflict between the readers, or the way any other 'normal ' man will look at this experiance, and how he sees it, or wants it to be seen ( although he does not show his father as completley innocent). It is possible that the narrator in this poem is 'afflicted ' by this syndrome. He defends his father because to him it seems that this is the reality he should be in. He describes the beatings as a waltz beacause he sees it as such. Although the poem is narrated retrospectively, from a grown up man point of view, something remains, the poet does not hate his father for the beating, on the contrary, he shows us that the love to his father is not, and never was lost. Would he be destined for a long and joyous life, bringing honor to the family name? Or would he perish in my arms, hardly catching a glimpse of this miraculous gift we call life? One by one each sister foretold how my beautiful son would become a heroic and a brave man. My heart swelled with pride as I heard the great deeds my own blood would accomplish in the future. • 38. The Police Portraying Of Manney King : The Body Beatings... Law enforcement's main goal of implementing the body cameras is to obtain live images of how things really happen in the criminal world. Police officers confront criminals on a daily basis, and put themselves at risk of being attacked and in worst cases, shot to death. On the other hand, there have been cases of police officers acting inadequately and carelessly towards civilians. By recording police–citizen encounters, judges, reporters, police supervisors, an others can get objective evidence rather than self–serving hearsay. One of the most famous cases where police officers abused of their power is "The police beating of Rodney King". Rodney King was a taxi driver that at the time was being pursued by the police. Once King got off the car, the Los Angeles police officers brutally clubbed and kicked King close to 60 times, while other law enforcement officers stared. According to the judge in trial, there had been no crime committed by the police, therefore, the case was suspended. Subsequently, someone who had filmed the entire event, spread the video to the news and social media, which led to a social riot in the 1960s. The beating of Rodney King caused controversy in the United States because King was Afro American and the police officer use of excessive force acts were discovered by the jury to have surged from racist principles. • 40. Wife Beatinging In Edgar Allan Poe's The Black Cat Wife beating is an act that is entirely intolerable and scrutinized by all members of society, the law, and essentially by those who are beaten by their husband or significant other. However, during the era of the 19th century, the United States was in a low point, by today's standards, when it comes to the abuse and mistreatment of the wife. As men were treated higher up in societal standards, women were treated as lesser members of society when it amounts to the marriage of man and wife. During most of this century, women gave up their abilities to "fight in court against their husband" due to their legal status merging with their spouse; furthermore, this allows the husband ability to verbally and physically abuse their spouse to an extent known in this period as "chastisement" (Reva Siegel). Not only was this acceptable in the terms of society but as well as the law; men were "masters of the household" and were allowed by law to give "corporal punishment" to their wife to establish and maintain "domestic harmony." The socio–legal vulnerability of wives to domestic violence was to an extreme and was more common among the lower–class citizens of society. Edgar Allan Poe's "The Black Cat" (1843) thematically posits two causes of wife–beating in early 19th century America: male intemperance and male patriarchal insecurity. As it beats faster and faster, it pushes him further into his insanity. Hearing it beat so loudly, he believes not only will it burst, but also the neighbors will hear it. Thus, the insane man rushes headlong into the hideous act. "But the beating grew louder, louder! I thought the heart must burst.
