How To Make A Good Thesis Statement For An Essay

The chemical poisoning in water have a great impact on humans because it can cause brain damage
and physical deformities in unborn fetuses. Pollution disrupts the natural food chain as well.
Pollutants such as lead and cadmium are eaten by tiny animals. Later, these animals are consumed by
fish and shellfish, and the food chain continues to be disrupted at all higher levels. Eventually,
humans are affected by this process as well. People can get diseases such as hepatitis by eating
seafood that has been poisoned. Besides, Water pollutants introduce abnormal conditions (harmful
chemicals, changes in water temperatures) into water bodies, disrupting existing ecosystems and can
potentially contribute to reducing biodiversity in that affected area – one of the effects of water
pollution. For example, the discharge of heated–up water from thermal and nuclear power plants into
a river can cause problems for aquatic organisms, which are fairly used to specific temperatures.
The increase in water temperatures could increase their metabolic rates and hence their need for
food. This could eventually lead to the depletion of food sources in that water region and in turn
cause a reduction in species population in that water region. Besides thermal pollution, water could
also be polluted via the entry of acidic substances into the water bodies through rivers, seas and
oceans. The effects of water pollution by this process, known as

2. Good Thesis Statement
To start out of making a good research paper is, to know a good thesis statement to write down on
paper and to evaluate an issue or an idea and presents the breakdown and evaluation to your
audience (owl.english.purdue.edu). Make sure you find the main point of your subject for your
paper and try to summarize your thesis and the evidence you are using to support that point. You
should always make sure you have your paper in the right format before you even begin on writing.
Then you explain something to your audience so that it flows well with the rest of your paper
(owl.english.purdue.edu). You write an argumentative paper that makes a claim about a topic and
justifies your claim with specific evidence. Your claim can be an opinion, a policy...show more

Furthermore, always when you are writing a paper is to put as much in your own words as
possible and try not to paraphrase that much and cite as much as possible. In addition, make sure
that the citing matches your references. You then have to proofread your draft paper and to see that
it is in proper format with a good introduction and conclusion then you can start writing your final
paper. However, proofreading is important to go back and revise your paper
(owl.english.purdue.edu). I think the easiest part of conducting a research paper is about what topic
that interests me to write. The things I struggle with most are how to start out writing and putting
it all together on paper. Choosing a good topic and keep from having writer's block when you start
writing. Also check to my grammar, wordiness or making sure it makes sense. However, when it
has been brought to my attention that I am making mistakes and need help I contact a tutor.
Because writing research papers are harder for me to understand and to put it all together to make
any sense. The most important thing for me is looking forward in the remainder of my schooling
is to make sure I write in my forums and my assignments and check my spelling, grammar, citing,
and make sure, when I am doing research to pick a scholarly peer review site or a reliable website.
Moreover, to make

3. Thesis Statement
I have been an international student at California State University Easy Bay (CSUEB) for almost
four years, and during the stay I have learned far more than I expected. I came to CSUEB already
deciding to be a financial analyst in the future. However, I realized that I have to meet the University
Writing Skills Requirement (UWSR) before graduation. With only four years of studying in English,
I have many problems in English writing. After failing the Writing Skills Test, I took an English
writing class, which has taught me how to write logically and proficiently. Thus, I should pass this
class and satisfy the UWSR because my collection of essays in the portfolio shows that I made a
great improvement in thesis statements composition, development of ideas, and organization.
To begin with, I have improved tremendously on writing a thesis statement. The thesis statement
can be the most significant sentence in an essay. In my past, I always composed an unclear and
unsupported thesis failing to present my augment to the readers. With the help of a tutor, I learned
that an effective thesis should have a clear position supported by reasons. I revised the thesis of out

It is an inseparable part of an English essay. I was confused about how to find evidence to support
my claim. After taking this class, I understood that an idea can be developed through providing
sufficient and convincing credible sources, personal examples, and reasons. Take out of class essay
1 as an example. When developing my idea of the positive sides of a college degree, I provided data
from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, personal work experience, and a credible article for the New
Yorker Magazine to explain and support my claim. Hence, I believe that I made an incredible
progress on the development of

HOW TO WRITE A STRONG THESIS STATEMENT A WRITING CENTRE HANDOUT
1. UNDERSTAND THE ACADEMIC WRITING TASK
You can begin to formulate a good thesis statement only after you have got a solid grasp of the
purpose of the assignment. If you're asked to write a paper in response to a specific assignment
question, then your first task is make sure that you clearly understand the academic writing task.
Determine which of the following critical thinking skills you are primarily being asked to apply to
your object(s) of study: analysis comparison evaluation argumentation interpretation reflection
Your thesis statement, then, should take a form that reflects the goal of the writing task.

Remember that a tentative thesis statement is not something set in stone; rather, it is something
meant to help you focus your analysis and research so that the writing task becomes manageable.
You should not attempt to start collecting and analyzing evidence until you have an idea of the
main argument you would like make in your paper. Generating the thesis statement, then, can be
thought of as a recursive process. In the early stages of planning and writing, the tentative thesis
helps you focus on the evidence in a certain way, but as you get further along in the writing process
the analysis of evidence should also help you clarify the thesis statement (Rosenwasser et al. 132).
The writers of Writing Analytically recommend that you ask yourself the following questions as you
go through the process of generating a main claim for your essay:
3
What kinds of patterns or implications emerge when I look closely at my evidence?
What kind of evidence and support do I need to support my tentative thesis? What kind of evidence
cannot be adequately accounted for by my tentative thesis? How can I explain the mismatches
between my thesis statement and my selected evidence?
How can I rewrite my thesis statement in order to accommodate the evidence that doesn't fit?
This practice of constantly readjusting the thesis statement to match the evidence and analysis will
5. ultimately lead you to write a polished and defensible thesis statement in your final
