Atlanta Exposition Speech
Outside Reading Assignment One
"The Atlanta Exposition Speech" by Booker T. Washington, "The Talented Tenth" but W.E.B.
DuBois, and "The Negro's Place in American Life at the Present Day" by T. Thomas Fortune were
written during the end of the nineteenth century when African Americans were faced with great
challenges on a range of different levels. These documents are very like one another considering
they are all addressing the same issues, but I also feel like each of them are unique from one
another because of the person who wrote them. Washington focuses more on an industrial education
so the blacks can go to school. He has the whites to believe that it will also affect them and make
things better for them at the time and that they will...show more content...
Thomas Fortune has more of gradualism approach to it. He is more focused on getting the
attention for the white audience and get the respect from them. Fortune asks, "What is the Negro's
place in American life at the present day?" (2). He says that the answer depends on the point of
view of the person and I greatly agree with that statement because I could believe completely
differently from the person sitting directly beside me on the situation. Sadly, blacks and whites
were not always treated the same way and still aren't always treated in the same ways today either.
Fortune states, "There can be no healthy growth in the life of race or a nation without a self–reliant
spirit animating the whole body..." (4). I feel like this statement is something that is important in
this speech. It touches on how there is nothing healthy about not having equal rights between
whites and blacks. Few blacks can trace back their ancestors as easily as it for whites, because
they don't have an ancestry. This made it very hard on them because, unlike the whites, they would
have had nothing to fall back on. Whites just had it a lot easier and honestly still do. People
believe that there isn't any more racism, but it's very hard for me to believe that after so many years
of this occurring for it to just completely stop. In my opinion, giving blacks the rights that they
deserve will make things differently because

Antigone Exposition Analysis
Antigone
Antigone is a very interesting play that was enjoyable to read. This play is somewhat long but
reads quickly as the characters in the play are interesting to learn about and understand. Antigone is
a strong female character that is rare as she holds the position of a heroine in a time when heroes
were more common.
The exposition of this play, that is spoken through the chorus right after Ismene and Antigone first
dialogue at the beginning of the play, is that a civil war went on lead by their two brothers
Polyneices and Eteocles. The war has now ended with both of the brother's deaths and Creon in
charge. The death and tragedy of King Oedipus also marks as a part of the exposition. The inciting
incident in Antigone is when Creon orders that Polyneices is not to be buried. This happens right
before the play begins and is addressed along with the exposition at the start of the play. This
incident triggers Antigone to make a decision that provides the plot of the story. Antigone decides
to disobey Creon's orders and makes a plan to bury her brother Polyneices anyways. From this
point in the play, foreshadowing is made through Ismene's warning for Antigone of the
repercussions of her decision. Later, Teiresias, also foreshadows this play, while Antigone is in
prison, when he has a prophecy proclaiming that Creon's fate is that of tragedy, that the gods are
angry with him for his decrees and his actions. This comes true at the end when the tragedy of
Antigone, Haemon and Creon's wife occurs.
As the inciting incident affects the actions and decision of Antigone, she declared as the protagonist
of this play. She is also recognized as the heroine that is not only following the laws of the gods and
fighting against Creon's tyranny, she is also beloved by the people. This is told through the chorus
and Haemon right after her arrest. Through Antigone, the point of attack is when she goes to bury
her brother against Creon's laws. This happens during the time that Creon is speaking with the
chorus after Antigone and Ismene's talk. Complications then arise when it is noticed that someone
has been burying Polyneices, this then leads to the complication that Antigone is caught committing
the crime. Then Creon's

The Impact Of The 1893 Columbian Exposition
A Nation Reborn
In the closing years of the 19th century, The United States of America stood before the world as a
divided nation in the ruins of a deadly civil war. After years of tragedy and hardship, it was time for
the states to turn a new leaf and start a new chapter of prosperity. To accomplish such, America's
greatest minds were assembled to construct a fair so magnificent, it would not only usher in a new
age of American civilization. but establish the foundation of the urban world. The finished project
became known as the White City. This venue for the World's Columbian Exposition left a multitude
of positive and negative impacts on the social, political and economic scale. Socially, this event
introduced the foundation of the modern American living and lifestyles. Politically, the 1893
Columbian Exposition put The United States on the map. While economically, the Fair had
succeeded at the cost of cultivating a new rise in crime and fraudulent activity. Although it barely
turned a profit, finance was one of many factors in determining whether the Fair truly was the
transitional event sparking the rise of a global superpower. In summary, the 1893 Columbian
Exposition to a significant extent was a watershed event in US history providing a blueprint for a
global superpower entering the 20th century.
To begin with, the social legacy of the 1893 Columbian Exposition had several lasting impacts on
American culture. The Fair accomplished such by influencing the

Exposition Definition Essay
Exposition as defined in our textbook as a "primary purpose giving information." (pg.193)
Therefore, everyone would use exposition in their career, relationships, at home, and in college. I
have recently used exposition at home explaining my reasoning for purchasing a registered puppy.
The strategies used in my conversation includes contrast, comparison, and examples of what
purpose the puppy would have in my life. Some of the examples given were the opportunities that
would become available for me in career dog training; such as, showing the dog in American
Kennel Club events or titling the dog in obedience rallies that the club offers. Another example
would be that the experience would aid me in my career, as well as meet new people with

In Act 1 Scene 1, Shakespeare introduces setting, characters, themes and plot to explain what is
happening and to grab the audience's attention, as well as laying the ground for the rest of play.
He also uses literary techniques to make his play more interesting. Shakespeare also does this
through the language and style of his writings he gives to the individual characters, and also the
very few stage directions. Shakespeare had very restricted assets to work with, and so needed his
actors and speeches to work for him. His language gives us clues as to how the characters should act
and how they should project their personalities to create a sense of realism. The first scene is
important in catching and holding the attention of an audience...show more content...
Shakespeare uses alliteration as a literary technique in speeches by the Master and the Boatswain. In
Act 1 Scene 1 Shakespeare writes, 'take in the topsail'. This here is already having an effect on the
audience because it creates tension and suspense, making them anxious and nervous as to what is
going to happen next. Both characters try to remain calm, but the use of alliteration catches the
attention of the audience. This has the effect of highlighting certain phrases and it also draws
attention to the particular words used.
Another literary technique is the use of imperatives. For instance, when the Boatswain says 'Hence!'
to the lords, he is telling them to get out of the way. He orders them to stop talking, 'Silence!' which
seems to stun Gonzalo, who does not challenge him. This has the effect of emphasising how urgent
the situation is.
Shakespeare introduces the theme of challenge to authority through the speech of the Boatswain.
When the lords come on deck, the Boatswain speaks rudely to them. For instance, he mocks the
importance of the king: 'What cares these roarers for the name of the king?' The audience now
knows that the normal hierarchy is not being kept to, and can expect this theme to be developed in
the play. Gonzalo reminds the Boatswain of the important status of his passengers. However the
Boatswain replies as if Gonzalo, the king and the lords are his equal in status. Another example is
when the Boatswain orders the lords below.

Brief Summary Of The Exposition Of Hatchet
The exposition of Hatchet begins with a thirteen year old boy named Brian on his way from New
York to Canada on a two person plane to see his father. Brian's parents recently divorced and Brian
is really disheartened about the situation he calls the reason why they broke. Before to long on the
plane the pilot suffers a heart attack and dies leaving Brian to land the plane this is when rising action
begins . Somehow Brian lands the plane in a crash–landing and only has a few bumps and bruises.
With Brian the only one alive he would have to find food and shelter to survive against nature. With
only the hatchet his mother gave him, Brian went out and found some berries to eat and made a
shelter. Brian learned how to make a spear, fire and learns

Exposition In The Poem By Langston Hughes
. The exposition in any story or poem is the beginning, probably the first paragraph that lays out basic
information on what the author will talk about. It introduces the characters, time, in this place and
the setting of the piece of art. In this poem life is fine by Langston Hughes, the exposition begins
when the author goes to the riverbank to think but he could not concentrate.
This makes him attempt to commit suicide by jumping into the river. He sank upon jumping.
2. I suppose the speaker sank to the bottom instead of swimming to the top because he was very
determined to commit suicide. This is highlighted in the first stanza particularly in these two
sentences. "I tried to think but couldn't, so I jumped in and sank ". However his...show more content...
It also shows the turning point of events. We all thought the speaker would die after attempting to
commit suicide twice but at the end he survives and embraces a new meaning of life.
5. The falling action of the poem is when the speaker does not die and decides that since the
attempts to commit suicide were futile, he will continue living and embrace life. " So since am
still here livin',I guess I will live on". He points out that loss of love pushed him to the edge of
attempting to commit suicide but it also gives him a new meaning of life and understands his sense
of purpose. I think this is the falling action since it shows how the character go back to accepting his
life the way it was before the thoughts of committing suicide occupied his mind.
He recognizes that life is sacred and it should not be given up despite the hard situations that people
go through in life. The poem addresses a scenario where people result to death as a way of
overcoming their problems.
6. Denouement shows the characters going back to the normal life they led before the conflict
occurred. The speaker comes to realize how life is consecrated that he even acclaims that life is fine.
"Life is fine! Fine as wine! Life is fine!" I think the speaker was happy to be alive because
Surname3 he seems to have a renewed desire to live. The speaker expresses his views on the beauty
of existence. At the end of the poem

Atlanta Exposition Address Summary
In the article "Atlanta Exposition Address" Booker T. Washington was addressing the topic of
mutual progress for the nation, which he believed could only be achieved by cooperation between
blacks and whites. He asked for his race to "cast down your bucket where you are." What Mr.
Washington meant by this was that he wanted for the blacks to use the resources right in front of
them; to become friends with the whites around them. If they did, the blacks would be able to
create for themselves better lives and better job opportunities. Most blacks could not start at the top
of the economical ladder, but had to start at the bottom and work their way to the top. While some
blacks could take the higher ranking jobs, the majority had to rely on manual

The Impact Of The Columbian Exposition
March 31st, of 1889 marked an important day in not only France's history, but America's history as
well. The Eiffel Tower was unveiled that day, during the Exposition Universelle in Paris, joining "the
palace of machines," and other larger than life feats of "the iron architecture [that] dominated the
fair" (Expo 1889 Paris). As a nation, America was embarrassed and determined to show their
dominance in the realm of iron and steel working. Thus, the idea for the Chicago's world fair was
born, giving the US "a needed opportunity to out–Eiffel Eiffel" (Larson 15). Before long, it was
decided that the fair would be called "The Columbian Exposition", honoring the 400th anniversary of
Columbus's sail across the Atlantic. During its six months of operation the fair was an unequivocal
success and "had a powerful and lasting impact on the nation's psyche" politically, socially, and
economically (Larson 373). Consequently, despite having certain economic implications, the 1893
Chicago World's Fair, to a large extent, was an event that both influenced millions and acted as a
transitional period for America in several different manners.
Politically, the Columbian Exposition was an immense success. Just coming out of an industrial
revolution, the nation had several inventions and innovations, that were yet to be seen by other
leading countries, such as AC DC electricity, agricultural machines, and an impressive
transcontinental railroad system. Without a doubt, the Columbian Exposition

Chicago World's Columbian Exposition
The World's Columbian Exposition, also known as the Chicago World's Fair, was an event held in
Chicago from May to October of 1983. The fair was created to celebrate the 400th anniversary of
Columbus's discovery of the New World. The fair was designed to celebrate American innovation as
well as bring together the American public and expose them to a multitude different ideas and
cultures. One aspect of the fair was the abundance of living museum exhibits, which had people from
other cultures going about their daily activities while the public observed. These living museum
exhibits were primarily on the Midway, an area of the fairground on the outskirts of the main area,
known as the White City. While White City mainly housed exhibits pertaining...show more content...

isolation of the school on the Midway illustrates that Americans saw natives as outsiders. Rather than
being treated as Americans they were they were placed in the Midway with other non–white people

disinterest in non–white people whom they could not view as savages. The school questioned the
belief that Indians were culturally and intellectually inferior to whites, and as a result it was not

Exhibition Reflection
I feel that my Exhibition this term was a lot better than my last. I was able to do a lot more things
I wanted to do and got into more depth with the topics I talked about. I was able to engage my
audience even more with the activity which I would say was a better improvement than last
exhibition. In my Exhibition I felt that I did really well with my volume and how I talked. I was
able to talk a lot more in depth and showed my progress in my topics which I would say I
improved a lot in. Another strength I would say is how I was able to interact more with my
audience and show what I learned in a more interactive way. Rather than me just talking in front of
my audience for 15 minutes about dirt. Some things I wasn't prepared for was how...show more

I will be able to do this by finishing my exhibition early so I have time to practice and practice. I also
want to procrastinate less when I'm making my exhibition, so my plan to achieve this is by
making a day planner. Where it'll have a specific time and what I have to achieve by then, which
will actually help me be more organized with myself. Another challenge I'd like to do is to
continue to try and make more activities so I'm able to present a more engaging exhibition just like
this one. Just so my exhibition doesn't end up being boring but even more engaging for my
audience, just so they have something to do rather than me just talking. I'd say that from my Term 1
Exhibition to now, I was able to improve a lot more in those areas I said in my term 1 reflection. I
was able to manage well better now compared to both my first and second exhibitions, this
exhibition I was able to finish a week before. Which has given me time to rehearse what I wanted
to say and even add on new things. I was also able to engage my audience a lot due to the activity
with the soil. Which I'm pretty sure my audience actually enjoyed quite a lot. According to my
first exhibition, I wanted to improve more on how I talked and I think I got a lot better in that too
as well. As I think I'm able to talk more clearer now than when I first started. Some challenges I'd
say that I'm still facing is just the procrastination part. Even though I have been able to improve a lot

The Key Of The Exposition
Second, I will talk about the form in these horn concerti. In classical period, sonata form was very
famous and every composer in this era liked to use this form. Exposition has two themes in
different key. Normally second theme is the dominant key of the first theme. Transition is between
first and second themes. Composer in classical era always put same key when exposition ended.
Development opening always the same key of the exposition ended and puts many different keys in.
The end of development is a re–transition. This will take the development to recapitulation and the

themes from exposition. But themes will be little different,...show more content...

Second movement of this horn concerto is a Romance in Ab Major. This form is a ternary form.
Mozart puts horn and orchestra together to play this melody. Mozart used two themes and some
melodic link to connect all movement. The first four measures of the beginning showed up two
times in this movement. This third movement is a rondo form. The sections of this movement are
ABACA. A section repeated three times. Mozart putted codetta in the last section. And he used the
continuing triple notes to make this piece more excited. At the same time, the theme of this
movement sounds like Mozart's piano concerto No.22. Even these two pieces do not have the
exactly same melody, but still can figured out the similar theme between these two pieces.
This is interesting evidence about Mozart's four concertos. His first movements of his concerti are
sonata form and third movements are rondo. Because Mozart's first horn concerto is an incomplete
piece, his second movement of this piece is a rondo. In the other hand, this movement originally was
a third movement. In his three concerti (without first horn concerto), his second movements
basically are romance. However, in No.2 horn concerto, Mozart only wrote Andante for second
movement. Even Mozart was

his life and its doings have been failures, and he has nothing left, nothing constant or permanent. The

"The Great Awakening" occured in the spring and summer of 1735 associated with a revivalist

argued that the state should support all churches equally while Thomas Jefferson argued that

Essay about Exposition of Mythology
Exposition of Mythology
Since the beginning of time people have found great interest in the study of mythology and its
origin. For the past five weeks I have been studying this deep and complex issue and have come to
the conclusion that without myths history would not be the same. In this paper I will discuss what
myths are and how scholars have broken them down. Scholars such as Joseph Campbell go into great
detail to explain mythology and how it effects the human life.
First you must determine what a myth is? Webster's New Riverside Dictionary defines a myth as,
"A traditional story originating in a preliterate society, dealing with supernatural beings, ancestors, or
heroes that serve as primordial types in a primitive view of the...show more content...
The Hall of Running Bulls is just one example were the artist of the painting is trying to capture
the animals' spirit. Campbell believed that each chamber of the cave was designed and created for
different ceremonies and rituals. One example that Campbell talks about is a painting of a strange
beast with horns on the beast head. Campbell explains that, "No animal in the world looks like
that, and yet these artists painted animals in a way that no one's been able to paint them since"
(Campbell 17). Scholars have found examples of this beast in Australia being portrayed by tribe
elders as a ritual dance. Even though the beast cannot be explained it is believed that it had magical
charm and would bring the hunters good luck.
Mythology can be broken down into three categories: pure myth, heroic saga, and folklore. Pure
myth explains how the heavens were created and how man should behave toward the gods and
goddesses. Morford explains that, "Most Greek and Roman stories reflect this universal
preoccupation with creation, the nature of god and humankind, the afterlife, and other spiritual
concerns" (pg. 03). In almost every myth the gods are showing mankind how not to act by their
tireless efforts in love, war, and chaos. To the Greek people gods were seen as the creators of
heaven and earth with each god having a certain supernatural power. The gods not only created
mankind but they also set laws and standards for the people of Greece to obey. The

Innovation has become one of the most important issues in modern culture, these days not only in

11. Exposition: The exposition in a play gives background information to the audience about the
characters and situations the characters are in. Expositions are necessary in plays because without
them, audience members would have no clue what is going on. Expositions are also useful in letting
an audience know what to expect and see later on in a play. Exposition can occur through action,
narration, or dialogue from the characters. In Trifles, by Susan Glaspell, the exposition occurs

After a climax occurs, audience members can usually guess what will happen in the end. Climax can
also aide in the understanding of the rising action that occurred before hand. Sometimes the climax
can be a plot twist and make a plot more interesting and exciting. The climax in the play Zombie

The conflict in the play is centered on, Emily and Kathy, two best friends who can't agree about
one thing, Emily's zombie boyfriend. The climax occurs when Emily has Walter turn Kathy into a
zombie as well, so she doesn't have to lose her boyfriend or best friend. The climax in this play lets
the audience know that Emily is a selfish person as she took the life away from her best friend in
order to get the best of both worlds.
14. Theme: A theme is the main point of a piece of literature. Every piece of literature needs a
theme, otherwise it has no depth. A whole plot structure is based around a theme to explain a central
idea. Themes are important because they teach lessons and send messages to readers or an audience.
They also help people analyze human nature and the world that surrounds them. August Wilson's
theme in Fences is vital to analyze and understand as it explains

  • 1. Atlanta Exposition Speech Outside Reading Assignment One "The Atlanta Exposition Speech" by Booker T. Washington, "The Talented Tenth" but W.E.B. DuBois, and "The Negro's Place in American Life at the Present Day" by T. Thomas Fortune were written during the end of the nineteenth century when African Americans were faced with great challenges on a range of different levels. These documents are very like one another considering they are all addressing the same issues, but I also feel like each of them are unique from one another because of the person who wrote them. Washington focuses more on an industrial education so the blacks can go to school. He has the whites to believe that it will also affect them and make things better for them at the time and that they will...show more content... Thomas Fortune has more of gradualism approach to it. He is more focused on getting the attention for the white audience and get the respect from them. Fortune asks, "What is the Negro's place in American life at the present day?" (2). He says that the answer depends on the point of view of the person and I greatly agree with that statement because I could believe completely differently from the person sitting directly beside me on the situation. Sadly, blacks and whites were not always treated the same way and still aren't always treated in the same ways today either. Fortune states, "There can be no healthy growth in the life of race or a nation without a self–reliant spirit animating the whole body..." (4). I feel like this statement is something that is important in this speech. It touches on how there is nothing healthy about not having equal rights between whites and blacks. Few blacks can trace back their ancestors as easily as it for whites, because they don't have an ancestry. This made it very hard on them because, unlike the whites, they would have had nothing to fall back on. Whites just had it a lot easier and honestly still do. People believe that there isn't any more racism, but it's very hard for me to believe that after so many years of this occurring for it to just completely stop. In my opinion, giving blacks the rights that they deserve will make things differently because Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Antigone Exposition Analysis Antigone Antigone is a very interesting play that was enjoyable to read. This play is somewhat long but reads quickly as the characters in the play are interesting to learn about and understand. Antigone is a strong female character that is rare as she holds the position of a heroine in a time when heroes were more common. The exposition of this play, that is spoken through the chorus right after Ismene and Antigone first dialogue at the beginning of the play, is that a civil war went on lead by their two brothers Polyneices and Eteocles. The war has now ended with both of the brother's deaths and Creon in charge. The death and tragedy of King Oedipus also marks as a part of the exposition. The inciting incident in Antigone is when Creon orders that Polyneices is not to be buried. This happens right before the play begins and is addressed along with the exposition at the start of the play. This incident triggers Antigone to make a decision that provides the plot of the story. Antigone decides to disobey Creon's orders and makes a plan to bury her brother Polyneices anyways. From this point in the play, foreshadowing is made through Ismene's warning for Antigone of the repercussions of her decision. Later, Teiresias, also foreshadows this play, while Antigone is in prison, when he has a prophecy proclaiming that Creon's fate is that of tragedy, that the gods are angry with him for his decrees and his actions. This comes true at the end when the tragedy of Antigone, Haemon and Creon's wife occurs. As the inciting incident affects the actions and decision of Antigone, she declared as the protagonist of this play. She is also recognized as the heroine that is not only following the laws of the gods and fighting against Creon's tyranny, she is also beloved by the people. This is told through the chorus and Haemon right after her arrest. Through Antigone, the point of attack is when she goes to bury her brother against Creon's laws. This happens during the time that Creon is speaking with the chorus after Antigone and Ismene's talk. Complications then arise when it is noticed that someone has been burying Polyneices, this then leads to the complication that Antigone is caught committing the crime. Then Creon's Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. The Impact Of The 1893 Columbian Exposition A Nation Reborn In the closing years of the 19th century, The United States of America stood before the world as a divided nation in the ruins of a deadly civil war. After years of tragedy and hardship, it was time for the states to turn a new leaf and start a new chapter of prosperity. To accomplish such, America's greatest minds were assembled to construct a fair so magnificent, it would not only usher in a new age of American civilization. but establish the foundation of the urban world. The finished project became known as the White City. This venue for the World's Columbian Exposition left a multitude of positive and negative impacts on the social, political and economic scale. Socially, this event introduced the foundation of the modern American living and lifestyles. Politically, the 1893 Columbian Exposition put The United States on the map. While economically, the Fair had succeeded at the cost of cultivating a new rise in crime and fraudulent activity. Although it barely turned a profit, finance was one of many factors in determining whether the Fair truly was the transitional event sparking the rise of a global superpower. In summary, the 1893 Columbian Exposition to a significant extent was a watershed event in US history providing a blueprint for a global superpower entering the 20th century. To begin with, the social legacy of the 1893 Columbian Exposition had several lasting impacts on American culture. The Fair accomplished such by influencing the Get more content on HelpWriting.net

(pg.193) Therefore, everyone would use exposition in their career, relationships, at home, and in college. I have recently used exposition at home explaining my reasoning for purchasing a registered puppy. The strategies used in my conversation includes contrast, comparison, and examples of what purpose the puppy would have in my life. Some of the examples given were the opportunities that would become available for me in career dog training; such as, showing the dog in American Kennel Club events or titling the dog in obedience rallies that the club offers. • 5. In Act 1 Scene 1, Shakespeare introduces setting, characters, themes and plot to explain what is happening and to grab the audience's attention, as well as laying the ground for the rest of play. He also uses literary techniques to make his play more interesting. Shakespeare also does this through the language and style of his writings he gives to the individual characters, and also the very few stage directions. Shakespeare had very restricted assets to work with, and so needed his actors and speeches to work for him. His language gives us clues as to how the characters should act and how they should project their personalities to create a sense of realism. The first scene is important in catching and holding the attention of an audience...show more content... Shakespeare uses alliteration as a literary technique in speeches by the Master and the Boatswain. In Act 1 Scene 1 Shakespeare writes, 'take in the topsail'. This here is already having an effect on the audience because it creates tension and suspense, making them anxious and nervous as to what is going to happen next. Both characters try to remain calm, but the use of alliteration catches the attention of the audience. This has the effect of highlighting certain phrases and it also draws attention to the particular words used. Another literary technique is the use of imperatives. For instance, when the Boatswain says 'Hence!' to the lords, he is telling them to get out of the way. He orders them to stop talking, 'Silence!' which seems to stun Gonzalo, who does not challenge him. This has the effect of emphasising how urgent the situation is. Shakespeare introduces the theme of challenge to authority through the speech of the Boatswain. When the lords come on deck, the Boatswain speaks rudely to them. For instance, he mocks the importance of the king: 'What cares these roarers for the name of the king?' The audience now knows that the normal hierarchy is not being kept to, and can expect this theme to be developed in the play. Gonzalo reminds the Boatswain of the important status of his passengers. However the Boatswain replies as if Gonzalo, the king and the lords are his equal in status. Another example is when the Boatswain orders the lords below. Get more content on HelpWriting.net

The spatial setting is the place or places in which action unfolds, the temporal setting is the time; thus, the same as plot time. General Setting is the time and place in which all action unfolds; whereas, particular settings are the times and places which individual episodes or scenes take place" (Mays A10). A conflict is external when it puts a character against something or someone outside of his or herself–––another character or characters or something in nature or society. • 9. Exposition In The Poem By Langston Hughes . The exposition in any story or poem is the beginning, probably the first paragraph that lays out basic information on what the author will talk about. It introduces the characters, time, in this place and the setting of the piece of art. In this poem life is fine by Langston Hughes, the exposition begins when the author goes to the riverbank to think but he could not concentrate. This makes him attempt to commit suicide by jumping into the river. He sank upon jumping. 2. I suppose the speaker sank to the bottom instead of swimming to the top because he was very determined to commit suicide. This is highlighted in the first stanza particularly in these two sentences. "I tried to think but couldn't, so I jumped in and sank ". However his...show more content... It also shows the turning point of events. We all thought the speaker would die after attempting to commit suicide twice but at the end he survives and embraces a new meaning of life. 5. The falling action of the poem is when the speaker does not die and decides that since the attempts to commit suicide were futile, he will continue living and embrace life. " So since am still here livin',I guess I will live on". He points out that loss of love pushed him to the edge of attempting to commit suicide but it also gives him a new meaning of life and understands his sense of purpose. I think this is the falling action since it shows how the character go back to accepting his life the way it was before the thoughts of committing suicide occupied his mind. He recognizes that life is sacred and it should not be given up despite the hard situations that people go through in life. The poem addresses a scenario where people result to death as a way of overcoming their problems. 6. Denouement shows the characters going back to the normal life they led before the conflict occurred. The speaker comes to realize how life is consecrated that he even acclaims that life is fine. "Life is fine! Fine as wine! Life is fine!" I think the speaker was happy to be alive because Surname3 he seems to have a renewed desire to live. The speaker expresses his views on the beauty of existence. At the end of the poem Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. Atlanta Exposition Address Summary In the article "Atlanta Exposition Address" Booker T. Washington was addressing the topic of mutual progress for the nation, which he believed could only be achieved by cooperation between blacks and whites. He asked for his race to "cast down your bucket where you are." What Mr. Washington meant by this was that he wanted for the blacks to use the resources right in front of them; to become friends with the whites around them. If they did, the blacks would be able to create for themselves better lives and better job opportunities. Most blacks could not start at the top of the economical ladder, but had to start at the bottom and work their way to the top. • 11. The Impact Of The Columbian Exposition March 31st, of 1889 marked an important day in not only France's history, but America's history as well. The Eiffel Tower was unveiled that day, during the Exposition Universelle in Paris, joining "the palace of machines," and other larger than life feats of "the iron architecture [that] dominated the fair" (Expo 1889 Paris). As a nation, America was embarrassed and determined to show their dominance in the realm of iron and steel working. Thus, the idea for the Chicago's world fair was born, giving the US "a needed opportunity to out–Eiffel Eiffel" (Larson 15). Before long, it was decided that the fair would be called "The Columbian Exposition", honoring the 400th anniversary of Columbus's sail across the Atlantic. During its six months of operation the fair was an unequivocal success and "had a powerful and lasting impact on the nation's psyche" politically, socially, and economically (Larson 373). Consequently, despite having certain economic implications, the 1893 Chicago World's Fair, to a large extent, was an event that both influenced millions and acted as a transitional period for America in several different manners. Politically, the Columbian Exposition was an immense success. Just coming out of an industrial revolution, the nation had several inventions and innovations, that were yet to be seen by other leading countries, such as AC DC electricity, agricultural machines, and an impressive transcontinental railroad system. The fair was created to celebrate the 400th anniversary of Columbus's discovery of the New World. The fair was designed to celebrate American innovation as well as bring together the American public and expose them to a multitude different ideas and cultures. One aspect of the fair was the abundance of living museum exhibits, which had people from other cultures going about their daily activities while the public observed. These living museum exhibits were primarily on the Midway, an area of the fairground on the outskirts of the main area, known as the White City. While White City mainly housed exhibits pertaining...show more content... The children were taken from a culture thought to be inferior and treated like animals in a zoo. The isolation of the school on the Midway illustrates that Americans saw natives as outsiders. Rather than being treated as Americans they were they were placed in the Midway with other non–white people to be gawked at and exorcised. The financial failure of the of the model school exhibits American's disinterest in non–white people whom they could not view as savages. The school questioned the belief that Indians were culturally and intellectually inferior to whites, and as a result it was not Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 13. Exhibition Reflection I feel that my Exhibition this term was a lot better than my last. I was able to do a lot more things I wanted to do and got into more depth with the topics I talked about. I was able to engage my audience even more with the activity which I would say was a better improvement than last exhibition. In my Exhibition I felt that I did really well with my volume and how I talked. I was able to talk a lot more in depth and showed my progress in my topics which I would say I improved a lot in. Another strength I would say is how I was able to interact more with my audience and show what I learned in a more interactive way. Rather than me just talking in front of my audience for 15 minutes about dirt. Some things I wasn't prepared for was how...show more content... I will be able to do this by finishing my exhibition early so I have time to practice and practice. I also want to procrastinate less when I'm making my exhibition, so my plan to achieve this is by making a day planner. Where it'll have a specific time and what I have to achieve by then, which will actually help me be more organized with myself. Another challenge I'd like to do is to continue to try and make more activities so I'm able to present a more engaging exhibition just like this one. Just so my exhibition doesn't end up being boring but even more engaging for my audience, just so they have something to do rather than me just talking. I'd say that from my Term 1 Exhibition to now, I was able to improve a lot more in those areas I said in my term 1 reflection. I was able to manage well better now compared to both my first and second exhibitions, this exhibition I was able to finish a week before. Which has given me time to rehearse what I wanted to say and even add on new things. I was also able to engage my audience a lot due to the activity with the soil. Which I'm pretty sure my audience actually enjoyed quite a lot. According to my first exhibition, I wanted to improve more on how I talked and I think I got a lot better in that too as well. As I think I'm able to talk more clearer now than when I first started. Some challenges I'd say that I'm still facing is just the procrastination part. Even though I have been able to improve a lot more on Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 14. The Key Of The Exposition Second, I will talk about the form in these horn concerti. In classical period, sonata form was very famous and every composer in this era liked to use this form. Exposition has two themes in different key. Normally second theme is the dominant key of the first theme. Transition is between first and second themes. Composer in classical era always put same key when exposition ended. Development opening always the same key of the exposition ended and puts many different keys in. The end of development is a re–transition. This will take the development to recapitulation and the key of the recapitulation opening is the same key of the exposition. Recapitulation usually has same themes from exposition. But themes will be little different,...show more content... He also putted cadenza after in the end of this movement. Mozart was not wrote the cadenza for horn soloist. Horn players have to make cadenza by themselves. Second movement of this horn concerto is a Romance in Ab Major. This form is a ternary form. Mozart puts horn and orchestra together to play this melody. Mozart used two themes and some melodic link to connect all movement. The first four measures of the beginning showed up two times in this movement. This third movement is a rondo form. The sections of this movement are ABACA. A section repeated three times. Mozart putted codetta in the last section. And he used the continuing triple notes to make this piece more excited. At the same time, the theme of this movement sounds like Mozart's piano concerto No.22. Even these two pieces do not have the exactly same melody, but still can figured out the similar theme between these two pieces. This is interesting evidence about Mozart's four concertos. His first movements of his concerti are sonata form and third movements are rondo. Because Mozart's first horn concerto is an incomplete piece, his second movement of this piece is a rondo. In the other hand, this movement originally was a third movement. In his three concerti (without first horn concerto), his second movements basically are romance. However, in No.2 horn concerto, Mozart only wrote Andante for second movement. Even Mozart was Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 15. Exposition : The Time And Place Of The Action Exposition: the first part of plot that stages the scene, that introduces and identifies the characters, and establishes the circumstances at the beginning of a play or story. Additional exposition is often distributed throughout the work (Mays A4). Setting: the time and place of the action in a work of fiction, poetry, or drama. The spatial setting is the place or places in which action unfolds, the temporal setting is the time; thus, the same as plot time. General Setting is the time and place in which all action unfolds; whereas, particular settings is the times and places which individual episodes or scenes take place (Mays A10). Conflict: a struggle between opposing forces. A conflict is external when it pits a character against something or someone outside of his or herself–––another character or characters or something in nature or society. A conflict is internal when the opposing forces are two drives, impulses, or parts of a single character (Mays A3). Rising Action: the second of the five phases or parts of plot, in which events complicate the situation that existed at the beginning of a work, intensifying the initial conflict, or introducing a new one (Mays A10). Climax: the third part of plot, the point at which the action stops rising and begins falling or reversing; also called turning point or peripeteia (Mays A2). Falling Action: the fourth of five phases or parts of plot, in which the conflict or conflicts move toward resolution (Mays A4). Resolution: also Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 16. The two texts that this essay will compare and contrast are the novel The Great Gatsby by Scott Fitzgerald and the play Death of a Salesman, written by Arthur Miller. Both works are based around the central topic of 'the American Dream' and the unceremonious death of it. However, the journeys that the protagonists take to meet their tragic ends are very different though the motives involved are accused murder and adultery. This essay's aim is to determine whether the novel or the play best is more successful in engaging and provoking the reader. This will be done by analysing characters, plot lines and the main/recurring themes throughout. The lavish parties he holds (though he rarely shows his face); his ownership of several enviable motor vehicles, and his ludicrously large mansion that he resides in add to his 'image'. Though he does have a large fortune which he can spend without care, Gatsby's wealth is 'new money'. 'New money' is recently acquired wealth and can be earned through business deals, illegalities, gambling and the like. As opposed to 'old money' which is inherited wealth as shown in the character Tom Buchanan of East Egg whose family is extremely rich and goes back many generations. In Gatsby's case, it was the selling of alcohol which was illegal in the Twenties– also known as bootlegging, which earned him his fortune. This, in comparison to the discourse of the American Dream in Death of a Salesman is slightly different. Willy is trying to achieve the American Dream by becoming successful, thus ensuring him popularity. To be well–liked is what he is aiming for, and he is living through his eldest son, Biff, in order to do so. "Nothing's planted. I don't have a thing in the ground" (Arthur Miller, Death of a Salesman, Act 2). Willy's quote is further proof that he believes his life and its doings have been failures, and he has nothing left, nothing constant or permanent. The horticulture reference suggests that his 'garden' is a final effort to make up for his failed career and Get more content on HelpWriting.net

The World's Columbian Exposition In 1893, The World's Columbian Exposition was held in Chicago to celebrate the 400th anniversary of Christopher Columbus's arrival in the New World and to show how America has grown and progressed since then. In conjunction with the world fair, was the Parliament of the World Religions, an event displaying non–Christian religions and where they were able to speak on behalf of their own religion. However, even though the world fair was hosted on a total of 690 acres of land, not a single one of those acres were dedicated to Native American Religion besides a teepee set up at the entrance and the noble savage. "The Great Awakening" occured in the spring and summer of 1735 associated with a revivalist preacher and Congregationalist Protestant of the name Jonathan Edwards. Though their is great debate around the exact effect and correlation the so named "Great Awakening" had on the cause of the American Revolution, many did and still believe today that it was "The Great Awakening" that got people ready for the revolution and without it, the American Revolution would have never occured. By giving "The Great Awakening" and John Edwards preaching so much power it causes one religion, Protestanism, to become compatable as a part of the American identity. By associated Protestantism with an American identity it reveals the founders hypocrisy when they stated in the Bill of Rights that "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof" when it seems indeed a single religion is being promoted as the American religion. However, this could also simply be because of the confusion in definitions and what peoples views on church and state's relationship is and or should be on its promotion of a religion. This issue was brought up on page 89 of the reader, when in 1818 in Connecticut, Baptists argued that the state should support all churches equally while Thomas Jefferson argued that Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 18. Essay about Exposition of Mythology Exposition of Mythology Since the beginning of time people have found great interest in the study of mythology and its origin. For the past five weeks I have been studying this deep and complex issue and have come to the conclusion that without myths history would not be the same. In this paper I will discuss what myths are and how scholars have broken them down. Scholars such as Joseph Campbell go into great detail to explain mythology and how it effects the human life. First you must determine what a myth is? Webster's New Riverside Dictionary defines a myth as, "A traditional story originating in a preliterate society, dealing with supernatural beings, ancestors, or heroes that serve as primordial types in a primitive view of the...show more content... The Hall of Running Bulls is just one example were the artist of the painting is trying to capture the animals' spirit. Campbell believed that each chamber of the cave was designed and created for different ceremonies and rituals. One example that Campbell talks about is a painting of a strange beast with horns on the beast head. Campbell explains that, "No animal in the world looks like that, and yet these artists painted animals in a way that no one's been able to paint them since" (Campbell 17). Scholars have found examples of this beast in Australia being portrayed by tribe elders as a ritual dance. Even though the beast cannot be explained it is believed that it had magical charm and would bring the hunters good luck. Mythology can be broken down into three categories: pure myth, heroic saga, and folklore. Pure myth explains how the heavens were created and how man should behave toward the gods and goddesses. Morford explains that, "Most Greek and Roman stories reflect this universal preoccupation with creation, the nature of god and humankind, the afterlife, and other spiritual concerns" (pg. 03). In almost every myth the gods are showing mankind how not to act by their tireless efforts in love, war, and chaos. To the Greek people gods were seen as the creators of heaven and earth with each god having a certain supernatural power. The gods not only created mankind but they also set laws and standards for the people of Greece to obey. The Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 19. Individual Theme Exposition Essay Innovation has become one of the most important issues in modern culture, these days not only in the context of business and technology but also in environmental and climate changes. The changes in the environment impacts economies, populations, governments and cultures at a local level (Woerd 2002). Woerd (2002) also mentions that changes at a local level contribute to changes at a national and global level. All organisations worldwide are suffering with the environmental impacts that are places on them, and need to implement changes that are going to be achievable. • 20. 11. Exposition: The exposition in a play gives background information to the audience about the characters and situations the characters are in. Expositions are necessary in plays because without them, audience members would have no clue what is going on. Expositions are also useful in letting an audience know what to expect and see later on in a play. Exposition can occur through action, narration, or dialogue from the characters. In Trifles, by Susan Glaspell, the exposition occurs through action and dialogue. The characters Mrs. Peters, Mrs. Hale, Mr. Hale, the sheriff, and the county attorney all meet up at the Wright's abandoned farm house letting the audience know that something bad must have occurred at that house. Mr. Hale then...show more content... It occurs after the conflict of a play is displayed to indicate that the falling action will soon be taking place. Climax is important in literature as it helps the audience get ready for the resolution. After a climax occurs, audience members can usually guess what will happen in the end. Climax can also aide in the understanding of the rising action that occurred before hand. Sometimes the climax can be a plot twist and make a plot more interesting and exciting. The climax in the play Zombie Love, by Earl T. Roske, is used thoughtfully due to the fact that it is surprising and unexpected. The conflict in the play is centered on, Emily and Kathy, two best friends who can't agree about one thing, Emily's zombie boyfriend. The climax occurs when Emily has Walter turn Kathy into a zombie as well, so she doesn't have to lose her boyfriend or best friend. The climax in this play lets the audience know that Emily is a selfish person as she took the life away from her best friend in order to get the best of both worlds. 14. Theme: A theme is the main point of a piece of literature. Every piece of literature needs a theme, otherwise it has no depth. A whole plot structure is based around a theme to explain a central idea. Themes are important because they teach lessons and send messages to readers or an audience. They also help people analyze human nature and the world that surrounds them. August Wilson's theme in Fences is vital to analyze and understand as it explains Get more content on HelpWriting.net
