Links are a familiar element in
web pages and documents, and
they are easy to add in word
documents.
3. Types of links in MS WORD
There are 3 types of links
i. Hyperlink
ii. Bookmark
iii. Cross reference

4. Why we used links?
If you want to referencing an item in your
document, you don’t want to have to update
the paragraph or page number every time you
make changes.
5. Hyperlink/external link
A hyperlink is a word, phrase, or image that you can click on to jump to a new
document or a new section within the current document (it is a link)

6. Why we used hyperlink?
If you want a cross-reference to a bookmark to look like a
web link, you can insert a hyperlink rather than a cross-
reference. Note that the hyperlink is simply a link .
7. Bookmark(used to jump at the location)
The bookmark marks a place that you want to find easily, and one
that you want to return to when you need
9. How can you see your bookmarks?
Go to >bookmark>enter name
10. A cross-reference allows you to link to other
parts of the same document.
(It doesn't work until you have no
bookmark)

11. Why we use cross reference?
If you are writing a long document, you may want to
include references from one part to another. To avoid
having to update pagination, headings or figure numbers,
you can use Word’s cross-reference feature. you can also
use them to jump to the target.
13. Difference between links
hyperlink
reference external to
the document (as http:,
ftp:, mailto:, file:, etc.)
but may also reference
"objects" as listed in the
navigator panel.
bookmark
run of characters in the
present document
receiving a custom
name chosen by user;
the properties of this
location (page number,
chapter number,
content, ...) are recorded
for later use.
Cross reference
specific variant of field where
opens the "insert field" dialog
in the Cross-references tab
where
you can select bookmark or
heading (primary usage)
or any numbered paragraph.
14. Methods to apply
• Place your cursor
• Now click on bookmark
• Enter the name without spacing
• Click on Add
• Now use go to check bookmark
• Select the text you want
as a hyperlink
• Select hyper link
• Now select the picture
or web link
• Click ok
• Press (ctrl+ click )at the
location
• Place cursor at the point you
want to reference.
• Click on cross reference.
• Enter reference type.
• Click inert.
• Now click (ctrl + click)at the
Location.
