identify the pros and cons of an armed pilot. The argument on armed pilots has grown into a national
debate. The goal is to bring awareness to the audience about plane hijacking and the benefits of a
plane with arms on it for precautionary measures. This has been done by finding and examining

Everyone becomes aware of their fate and calls loved ones as an act of "last words". Ever since 9/11
the safety of a plane and its people has been every airlines top priority. There have been many
changes in how an airline runs, some temporary and some everlasting. New advancements in
machines for checking bags and people has sky rocketed. For example metal detectors, X–Rays and
trace portal machines, all which check the human body for hidden metal and traces of bomb making
material. There have also been added safety rules to create stricter guidelines on passenger and
luggage screening, only passengers with tickets could go through security and travelers must remove
shoes (Villemez 1). Liquids are no longer allowed on the plane unless distributed by the stewardess
when you arrive on the plane ( Villemez 1). History The past is always recognized because it paves
the way for the future. Many people study the past to make advancements so past happenings will
not be repeated in the future. Looking back in the past for pilots, that job type has always been risky.
There has always been the risk in flying a hunk of metal in the sky for miles trying to keep the plane
steady with out crashing while facing adversity like turbulence and rain, but now there is an added
worry to also losing control of the plane. Pilots now also must worry about extremists potentially
hijacking the plane. There have been previous plane hijackings in the

Flight 305 Research Paper
On November 24, 1971, a passenger like any other boarded Northwest Orient Airlines Flight 305.
The man known as D.B. Cooper, hijacked the plane with a ransom note that demanded money and
parachutes, when he got the money he jumped off the plane, never to be seen again. Many have
wondered how he succeeded the heist and if he even survived the jump.
Along with D.B. Cooper, 36 other passengers boarded the Boeing 727, that was headed from
Portland to Seattle. Soon after taking off, Cooper handed the flight attendant a note. When she
looked at the note it read, "I have a bomb in my briefcase. I will use it if necessary. I want you to sit
next to me. You are being hijacked." He then showed a glimpse of wires and red sticks in his brief
case. Cooper ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When receiving the parachutes he refused the instructions on how to use them. This concluded that
he probably had used parachutes before. Out of the parachutes he received he decided to use the
non–steerable military parachute. Tom Kaye of Citizen Sleuths reports on why this would have been
a good choice, "The military chute could better withstand the exit speed of the plane." It is believed
that Cooper jumped out of the plane above Tacoma, Washington. Prior to jumping, he told the flight
attendant to join the crew in the cockpit. Shortly after, a warning light indicated the rear door had
been opened. The crew assumed that he had jumped at this point, which was over Washington.
According to former Army Trooper Gregory Hall, D.B. Cooper made a diversion that was so
successful that people have been searching in the wrong area ever since that night. Instead of
immediately jumping out, Cooper would have waited and jumped out later when they already
thought he was gone. This distraction would've been the perfect attempt to fool the FBI in its
investigation. It seems to be no coincidence that D.B. Cooper ended up on a Boeing 727. The tie left
behind on the plane showed that he could've been a worker for the company. According to a group
of scientists selected by federal officials in Seattle, "A new analysis of the tie turned up particles of
cerium, strontium sulfide, and pure titanium." The particles found were mainly used in the
manufacture of certain aircrafts at the time. Tom Kaye of Citizen Sleuths, said the particles indicate
Cooper may have worked in one of the rare industries where they were used. Kaye also said those
substances were used in one of Boeing's plane that Cooper could've been a manger or engineer at. In
addition to the theory that Cooper's landing zone was around Reno, two letters showed up at the
Reno newspapers. A few days

The Terrorist Attacks Spread Fear And Fed Conspiracy...
On September 11th 2001, the terrorist attacks spread fear and fed conspiracy theorists. On board
United Airlines flight 93, everyone died, for a total of 44 losses ("United Airlines Flight 93"). UA93
crashed in a field near Shanksville, in Pennsylvania. Interpretations of the crash differ, as some
believe the government covered–up its involvement in the attacks and others support that the
passengers were celebrated as heroes, as they threatened their attackers (McConnachie and Tudge
401). The discussion of two contrasting opinions follows. David Ray Griffin believes UA93 was
shot down by the U.S. Air Force, whereas James B. Meigs defends that the heroic resistance of the
passengers caused the hijackers to pull the aircraft down. They both demonstrate that the nature and
the position of the plane debris at the crash area, as well as the authorities' reactions to the hijacking,
confirm their own point of view. Mr. Meigs explanations express more credibility than Mr. Griffin,
due to the compared use of reliable experts to support their claim between the two men and the
sufficient evidences to prove their viewpoint.
First and foremost, David Ray Griffin, a retired professor of philosophy of religion and theology
strongly believes that two military jets chased UA93 and shot it down, fired under the President
Bush order. His first reason provided is that the U.S. authorities being certainly aware of the United
Airlines hijacking, President Bush supposedly ordered the U.S. Air

Hijacked by Pinterest
Really? Not again. I've been hijacked. I've just spent three hours on Pinterest searching for a new
recipe for dinner. I don't know if I should be ashamed or excited. I did find a pretty amazing recipe
for roasted red pepper Alfredo though. However, I did just lose three hours of my time. I could of
finished various tasks in those three hours. I'll be the first one to admit it: smart technology is
making me dumb. People like me rely on smart technology for too many things: phone books,
directions, new information, etc. Soon people will depend on it for everything. I believe smart
technology will hijack our lives.
Many daily chores are completed by the use of smart technology. For example, smart technology
can be used for: setting an alarm clock, making phone calls, balancing a bank account, paying bills,
checking e–mails, doing homework, getting directions, etc. Many people take advantage of this.
They may use their laptop, iPad, cellphone up to ten times a day to complete these tasks. I'll admit it,
I have a favorite app myself. Pinterest! I'll lose hours on end getting lost in the app. However, smart
technology does have better uses. Henry Ford community college student, Shandra Dicks, found a
useful way to use smart technology. Dicks, loves to spend her spare time running. She also likes to
keep track of her progress from day to day. Dicks, started using the Nike Sensor; a micro–chip she
places in her shoe. This is a wonder–chip! It helps Dicks keep track of her running

The Global Air Transport Industry
The global air transport industry is one of the largest industries beating out the pharmaceuticals
industry, textiles or automotive industries and the air transport industry is around half as big as the
global chemicals and food and beverage industry. If we was to label air transport as a country, it
would rank as 21st in the world, equal to Switzerland and doubling Chile or Singapore.
There are 13.4 million indirect jobs in industries supplying the tourism industry are supported by
visitors that fly in. These include employment and activities of suppliers to the air transport industry,
places like aviation fuel suppliers; construction companies that build airport facilities; manufacturers
of goods sold in airport retail outlets; suppliers of sub–components used in aircraft; and a wide
variety of activities in the business services sector. Companies in the air transport industry support
over 9.8 million indirect jobs through the purchase of goods and services. These indirect jobs
contributed approximately $697 billion to global GDP in 2012.
Direct and indirect tourism jobs supported by air transport create 6.9 million jobs in other parts of
the economy, through employees spending their earnings on other goods and services. Direct,
indirect, and induced creates 35 million jobs within tourism, contributing nearly $807 billion
annually to world GDP. The shopping of employees of directly or indirectly job inside the airports
supports jobs in retail like banks and restaurants.

Treaties Against Terrorism And Aircraft Hijacking
treaties against terrorism and aircraft hijacking going as far back as the 70s. It was Universal
jurisdiction that allowed Israel to try Adolf Eichmann in Jerusalem in 1961. Kissinger in his article
stated that "thought it possible that national judges would use them as a basis for extradition
requests regarding alleged crimes committed outside their jurisdiction". The Torture convention on
1984 that was ratified by 124 governments required that any torturer found in its territory will be
tried where the torture took place even if that means extradition. A country that does not have the
means to try someone in violation may extradite the torturer to a country that can. Then there is the
Geneva conventions of 1949 on the conduct of war. The Geneva convention was ratified by 189
countries including the United States. All countries involved have agreed to search for persons
regardless of nationality to courts for trial who are reasonably accused of crimes. Kissinger worries
that the ICC was vague and ran the risk of being used for political agenda. Roth assures him that in
fact that the treaty 's definition for war crimes follows closely to the Pentagon 's very own military
manuals as well as the Geneva convention. The fear that judges and courts becoming tyrannical can
be offset by the fact that as it stands prosecutors can be removed for misconduct by a majority vote.
The ICC treaty even states that a two–thirds vote can remove a judge. Many of the concerns that the

Argumentative Essay About 9/11
9/11 was a tragic, dark time for many american citizens. The feelings lost ones are ever present
along with the aftermath of these events. Could 9/11 have a good outcome? I believe it may with it
causing many life saving advances such as modern airport security, a war on terror, and surveillance
Airport security is now a long and tedious event everyone dreads at the airport. The reason for the
wait and rules is the hijacking that took place that fateful day. Many outrageous rules come from this
such as no full sized toothpaste tubes and water bottles over 16 ounces. This is undoubtedly saving
many lives day to day and preventing another 9/11 scenario but also causes some disruption and
dislike by the common population of America.

protected their area by shooting guns to the foreign ships. At the beginning, it started to keep their

For decades, the airlines were the ones operating the security, providing the baggage check scanners
etc. These were poorly trained & minimum wage contract works who were hired by these airlines,
which was a reason why the hijackers were able to board the plane with prohibited weapons. The
first order of action from the government was to take charge & kick the airlines off from running the
security. The U.S. has spent nearly $100 billion in implementing new security systems & personal

The Theory that D.B Cooper Died Before people can start developing different theories about D.B
Cooper, we first have to ask ourselves whether he survive the jump. As the FBI investigates this
possibility, they discover more and more about the mysterious D.B Cooper. "We originally thought
Cooper was an experienced jumper, perhaps even a paratrooper," says Special Agent Carr. However,
after a few years of research and investigation, the FBI soon discovers that this could not true.
According to the FBI, there was no trained paratrooper who could have jumped in the rain, in
complete darkness, with a 200 mph wind, and survive. Even if D.B Cooper somehow managed to
survived the jump, there was no way he could have survived in the middle of the forest without any
supplies during the winter time. The FBI is almost positive that he had no one waiting for him after
the jump. One reason why they believe this is that there would have been no way for anyone to track
his location because no one could have known exactly where he landed. According to Agent Carr, he
jumped at a random location with no ground visibility. Finally after many years of investigation,
Special Agent Carr came to the conclusion that D.B Cooper did not survive the

Arming Pilots Essay
Protect Our People Please What do you do if someone is holding a gun in your face, and you have
nothing to defend yourself with? Well that is the exact circumstance that we all have the chance of
facing on a plane. Americans are expected to get on an airplane and feel safe and protected, but all
that has happened on airplanes in the past ten years has left us fearful. We need to do something to
make sure that we are safe on an airplane and that an American plane can never be hijacked again.
We need to train and arm our pilots to ensure our safety on an airplane.
Airplanes are massive and very complex pieces of machinery, and they help us get to places more
efficiently and cheaper than traditional ways. Although we have seen that if ... Show more content

Nearly two–thirds of those whom we trust to operate huge jets safely are former military aviators
with firearms training, and skills–testing would not be a problem." Before
September 11 many people had never had any fear of terrorism assuming that "something like that
can only happen in a movie". These days, most people would think twice before boarding a plane. In
my opinion arming pilots would increase people's confidence in airline security if they carried a gun
and not just a weapon. As an alternative to firearms some experts propose arming pilots with stun
guns or guns equipped with specialized bullets. The projectiles would "disintegrate on impact" to
ensure the safety of the aircraft. But they could do serious damage to the human body, which is fine
in the case of hijackers. The planes cockpits already come equipped with crash axes, which could be
used as weapons. (Scott, 3) A survey was given on October ninth asking how many people would
agree to letting pilots be armed, and seventy five percent said arm our pilots." The argument whether
or not pilots should carry guns isn't based upon facts and statistics, but on beliefs and assumptions.
Obviously, a pilot carrying a gun reduces the possibility that hijackers could succeed in their task.
Also, the majority of the American public feels safer just knowing that many pilots are beginning to
carry weapons. For those passengers

How Smartphones Are Hijacking Our Minds Summary
In "How Smartphones are Hijacking our Minds", Nicholas Carr argues that smartphones are
hijacking our minds. To strengthen his claim, Nicholas Carr uses strong diction, statistics, and irony,
to emphasize phones hijacking minds. In the article, Carr refers to tests done be professors on
college students. In one experiment, students had to take a test and some were told to either have
their phone on the desk, others in their bag or pocket, and the rest in another room. The outcome
showed higher scores for those whose phone was in a different room, then those whose phone was
in their bag or pocket, then those whose phone was on the desk. Carr found the results "striking" and
even went as far to say that as the proximity of the phone increased, the brain power decreased.
Another test he refers to is one done in the University of Essex, in England. which was held to study
social skills with the presence of a phone. The test revealed that "the mere presence of mobile
phones" reduced trust and empathy. A third test he explains in his article is one with a group of
strangers. They were told to type statements into a computer. Half were told that what they typed
would be deleted, and the other half were told that what they typed would ... Show more content on

Dr. Ward, claims the phone "acts as a 'supernormal stimulus', one that can 'hijack' attention."

"Hijack" strongly describes how the phone is "controlling us." For one of the tests done on college
students, he finds the results "striking." By using "striking", he expresses his shocked reaction. He
comments to another test with: "the evidence that out phone can get inside our head so forcefully is
unsettling." He uses "forcefully" to show a strong action for phones having access to our minds. By
using strong diction, Nicholas Carr is able to solidify his claim of phones hijacking our

Essay on Guns in the Cockpit
Guns in the Cockpit
On the morning of September 11, 2001, four airplanes were hijacked and two of them, brought the
collapse of the World Trade Center towers in New York City. As a result of these attacks on the
United States, airports have come to the realization that the only way to prevent another hijacking is
by strengthening the security on aircrafts through the cockpit. In order to secure the cockpit and
ensure the safety of the passengers on board, guns were introduced as a possible solution in the
event of an emergency situation like those that took place in September of 2001.
The Transportation Security Administration head John Magaw, announced the administrations

When the craft was in the air, the terrorists took the initiative and stormed into the cockpit and took
over the controls, turning the aircraft into a guided missile (CBS 1). Increasing security immediately
became an important aspect of airports shortly there after. Adequate security ensures the safety of
the people in the air and citizens on the ground below. It is expected by passengers, that they are
boarding a craft that will land safely at their intended destination. An aircraft should be a safe place
for everyone and even though every person that enters the airport goes through the required security
checkpoints, there is a small fraction of error. Someone will get by with a potential weapon and
board the plane along with it; therefore, the captains should have some form of a rear–view mirror
(Press 2). One of the many proposals made since the attacks is installing video cameras in the cabin
to monitor passenger activity for any possible terrorist actions. A pilot should be aware of what is
happening to the plane and the passengers on board at all times.
In a situation where someone is trying to hijack an airplane, there are three factors needed to be
assessed. Does the terrorist have a weapon, are they attacking alone, and is he or she a trained
fighter in the case of a Federal Air Marshal interfering (APSA 2)? In the incident of the World Trade
Center attacks, the

The Security Administration ( Tsa )
Following the terrorist attacks of 9/11, congress passed sweeping changes to the security of aviation
and border protection in the United States. Three agencies were significantly impacted by these
changes and the aftermath of 9/11: Transportation Security Administration (TSA), U.S. Customs and
Border Protection (CBP), and Federal Air Marshal (FAM). However, 14 years later is important to
review the changes which were implemented by sweeping popularity following 9/11 and evaluate
their effectiveness. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) was established by the
Aviation and Security Act signed into law on November 19, 2001. The Aviation and Security Act
required the TSA complete more than 30 mandates by the end of 2002. In March 2003, TSA was
transferred to the newly established Department of Homeland Security from the Department of
Transportation (Transportation Security Administration). As of 2014, the TSA has an annual budget
of $7.9 Billion and employs 62,000 people. However, there is evidence that the TSA may not be
effective based on the cost. George Leef, a Forbes contributor, cited a Government Accountability
Office (GAO) regarding the Screening of Passengers by Observation Techniques (SPOT). The
SPOT program relies on the premise that government observers in airports can detect individuals
who are intent on terrorism based on behavioral clues. The report issued by the GAO states that it is
ineffective they concluded: "The subjectivity of the SPOT

screening of passengers, cargo and luggage for explosives as the primary priority. Even though the

The current screening method is the body scanner which has been reported on multiple times by the
news as it is consider invasive in nature. The screener is able to see the passenger's nude image, but
software updates have eliminated this providing only detection of metallic and nonmetallic threats.
The prior method of a metal detector which did not alarm staff if nonmetallic threats existed allowed
C–4 explosive (a clay type of explosive) to board the plan. The body scanners are quicker than the
former methods of a "pat down", which every passenger had to endure and were less invasive. This
system will be used by the TSA until a better method is discovered, which will provide faster
screening, more privacy to passengers and better detection of threats. The cost of this has rising over
the years but it was the initial setup of the TSA in 2002 which cost the most since there was not an
agency within this realm that completed these duties.
"Security costs at airports have increased because of Transportation Security Administration
operations. It has also resulted in numerous passenger delays and additional cost. People likely are
spending thousands, if not millions, of hours at airports, which results in loss of productivity.

The Hijacking Of Science And The Abortion Debate
The Hijacking of Science in the Abortion Debate
There are few issues in America as emotionally–charged as abortion. Although abortion became
legal in 1973, very few American women have access to terminating an unwanted pregnancy.
Abortion or abortion repeal is a major platform issue for modern American politicians. That
politicians, rather than doctors or scientists, determine American abortion policies shows clearly
how science has been hijacked by vote–hungry politicians. For these politicians, getting votes is far
more important than learning the truth about women's welfare, genetics and fetal development.
The abortion phobia has become so strong in American politics that in July of 2014, a Supreme
Court ruling upheld the business Hobby ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A fetus does not develop a fully functional nervous system until the second trimester. However,
despite this fact, pro–lifers are against first trimester abortions just as firmly as they are for third–
trimester abortions.
Even the language of conception and gestation have been hijacked by politics and religious
fundamentalists. All unborn are called "fetuses." This clearly shows the ignorance of basic human
biology. The newly fertilized egg is a zygote ––– not a fetus and not a human being. It is a few cells
with potential but no distinguishing characteristics and no ability to feel anything. A zygote becomes
a blastocyst, which is a zygote that has reached a certain number of cells but has not yet stuck to the
uterine walls. Five weeks after conception, snug in the uterine tissue it becomes an embryo. It does
not become a fetus until it is ten weeks old and has ears and some facial features. Society laughs at
people who call zebras "horses" and yet tolerates the word fetus for zygote, blastocyst and embryo.
Getting the language right can help laypeople realize that a zygote or blastocyst is not a baby.
Fear of abortion has gone to ridiculous levels. In some states like North Dakota and Colorado, voters
will decide on November 4, 2014 if human eggs should been given the legal status of "personhood"
even though they are eggs and not people. (Gray, 2014.) Science shows that human eggs only
contain half the DNA necessary to kick start a baby. Sperm

Analysis Of Tristan Harris 's ' How Technology Has People...
Tristan Harris's How Technology Hijacks People's Minds– from a Magician and Google's Design
Ethicist published on May 18th, 2016 shows how specific rhetorical techniques develop purpose.
Harris graduated from Stanford University in 2006 with a Bachelor of Science, a Master of Science,
and Bachelor of Computer Science. "Harris focused on Human Computer Interaction, while
dabbling in behavioral economics, social psychology, behavior change and habit formation "
(website 1) "Working for google, he studied how technology influences a billion users' attention,
well–being and behavior." (Website 1) But has since moved on to work for Time Well Spent. " I'm
an expert on how technology hijacks our psychological vulnerabilities. That's why I spent the last
three years as a design ethicist at Google caring about how to design things in a way that defends a
billion people's minds from getting hijacked"(Harris, Pg. 1) Harris tells the readers about his
extensive research to create credibility with the audience.
One way Harris's credibility to supported is through ethos. " I learned to think this way when I was a
magician. Magicians start by looking for blind spots, edges, vulnerabilities and limits of people's
perception, so they can influence what people do without them even realizing it. Once you know
how to push people's buttons, you can play them like a piano" (Harris, Pg.1). This quote describes
when people are unaware of what is going on, how easily they are manipulated

Airport Security After 9/11 Essay
Have you flew on an airplane since the 9/11 terrorist attacks? There have been many changes in
airport security since then. Every airport now has some kind of security in their airports. Some
people get annoyed by it but others think it's a good idea. The changes from airport security before
9/11, to what 9/11 is, to airport security after 9/11 are a greatly discussed topic around our nation.
Before 9/11, security was more than easy to get through. You didn't have to remove your shoes,
scarf, or jacket, like you would typically have to today. (Green, 1) They rarely did pat down checks,
which today, is not very unusual. It was also very common to just arrive at the airport 30 minutes
before departure. You were allowed to carry pocket knives and box cutters passed security. Like it
would have been a huge deal today, it was normal back then. Checked bags were rarely ... Show

The second plane collided with the World Trade Center, south tower. The third plane to wreck was
flown straight into the side of the Pentagon. The final plane to be destroyed itself, crashed into a
field in Pennsylvania. The passengers learned about the hijacking, and fought back, saving many
other lives, that would have been in the building. ("9/11 facts", 5) After 9/11, airport security
upgraded very rapidly. They upgraded from barely checking any person or their luggage, to
checking everything. Airports stopped hiring just anybody as security screeners. They let the TSA
take over, as they knew it would make for better security. (McClure, 1) The TSA stands for
Transportation Security Administration. Private services were previously in charge of it, some being
ex–felons. (McClure, 1) By the year of 2008, they installed full body scanners in some of the biggest
airports in America. ("7 Ways Air", 1) They also have the right to do full body pat downs when they
feel the need because of a suspicious feeling or look about

The Dangers Of Airport Security
If airport security had the advanced technology they have now back in 2001, there is a possibility
that the 9/11 hijacking would have never happened. For years people would plant bombs and
weapons on their bodies to prevent it from being found, but with the technology airport security has
now there is nowhere to hide weapons without it being detected. " when we stop to give thanks for
all our blessings, let's give thanks for the people who spend their days and nights working to stop the
terrorist from succeeding– including the men and women of the TSA (thiessen)." Everyone needs to
stop and give thanks to the people who spend night and day working to stop terrorist because
without them we would have to live in constant fear of surviving flight. People don't realize how
blessed they are to have people and organizations like TSA. Airport security has a big impact on
people's safety during flight. Since the stand in 2002 Airport security has advanced their technology,
and taken steps to secure people's privacy. Since TSA's stand in 2002 they have screened nearly six
billion passengers. Their frontline officers have detected thousands of firearms and other countless
prohibited items, and prevented those weapons from entering the cabin of the aircraft. In fact, more
than 10 years after 9/11, TSA officers still detect, on average, Between three to four firearms
everyday in carry–on bags at security checkpoints around the country. The Transportation Security
Administration (TSA)

Improving Airport Security
How can airport security be more advance and safe around the world? Airport security attempts to
prevent any threats or potentially dangerous situations from arising or entering the country. If airport
security does succeed in this, then the chances of any dangerous situations, illegal items or threats
entering into aircraft, country or airport are greatly reduced. As such, airport security serves several
purposes: To protect the airport and country from any threatening events, to reassure the traveling
public that they are safe and to protect the country and their people. There are many ways to
improve airport security, but it will take a lot to do so. One way is hiring and training TSA different.
The way they are trained now is not helping ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Beginning in December 1972, the Federal Aviation Administration required airlines to scan all
passengers with metal detectors in an attempt to stop hijackers from carrying concealed guns and
other weapons onto flights. Aside from x–ray screenings of baggage and metal detector screening of
passengers, TSA officers are empowered to perform pat–down screenings and baggage searches for
any passenger that they feel requires additional screening. If the owners bag is locked TSA can cut
or break the lock if the owner is unwilling to open it can open it. In addition to TSA screening
measures, airlines are still responsible for checking passenger information against government–
issued watch lists intended to flag potentially dangerous travelers. Just fifteen years ago on
September 11, 2001 four U.S. planes were hijacked. Two of the hijacked planes crashed in the world
trade center, while another one crashed in a field in Pennsylvania, and the other one crashed into the
Pentagon. Airport security is a really big problem in the world. Almost three thousand people were
killed on that day. That was one of the saddest days in America, but it also made the country
stronger and realizes that airport security is a major thing that needs to be addressed. Hijacking
started in about 1933 and is still going on to this day. In 1933 a U.S.

Emotional Hijacking Chapter 1 Summary
Chapter 1: What are Emotions for?
Chapter 2: Anatomy of an Emotional Hijacking.
These chapters Dr. Goldman talks about the interrelation of the cortex and the limbic system. The
cortex is considered a part of the brain that controls rationality while the limbic system is the part of
brain where your emotions come from. He shows emotional intelligence like a moderation of
primitive impulses by mind. He suggests that the emotional intelligence can be taught.
In chapter 3, Dr. Goleman talks about a lot of studies to prove high IQ students have failed in real
life while the average person has great successes. He said if the IQ scoring has to play a role in your
success, it can't be more than 20%. He also said that your 80% success is based on a person's
emotional intelligence.
The Chapter 4 Talks about an involuntary experience which Dr. Goleman calls "self–awareness" or
"self–observation". He embraces self–awareness with Freud's "evenly hovering attention". However,

It focuses upon the amount of emotions that men and women make during different parts of their
lives. How some people have good friends from the opposite sexes in their young lives but slowly
lose their interest until they achieve puberty and start dating. Studies are used to prove that girls can
show their emotions better than boys. The reason lies in the fact that girls mature faster than boys
do. Dr. Goleman says that men don't talk with their wives too much about relationship. He also
observes that men may have a rosier view than their wives of just about everything in relationship–
lovemaking, finances, ties with in–laws, how well they listened to each other, how much their flaws
mattered. Married women, in general, complain more than their husbands, particularly among
unhappy couples. He suggests "mirroring" which can be used for marital therapy. When your partner

The Change in Airport Security from 9/11
The Change in Airport Security from 9/11 The terrorist attacks on September 11, 2011 prompted the
world to reevaluate and drastically modify airport and airline security. "Four targets had been
chosen, all iconic American buildings that would send a clear message of the depth of their hatred
for the United States. All four planes crashed, killing all on board–terrorists, crew members, and
passengers, along with hundreds who were killed inside the structures, on the ground, and the men
and women who ran into collapsing buildings in an effort to try and save others" (Smutz 1). As
Jason Villemez said "the decade after the 9/11 attacks reshaped many facets of life in America"
(Villemez 1). Before the attacks, people did not think that large ... Show more content on

This was possible because of the lack of care the airport security officers had while operating the
metal detectors and X–ray machines, "xray machine operators at private security firms averaged
about twelve hours of training" (Blalock 6). Security officers learned a very large lesson on
September 11, 2001; they learned that they needed to care about and perform their job to the best of
their ability in order to safeguard our country. As mentioned above, another reason the security in
airports was so shoddy was that the x–ray machines and metal detectors that were being used were
very out of date "the metal detectors were last replaced in 1995"(Hiltzik 1). These security tools
were so outdated that some of them didn't even register certain metals such as Aluminium and
Titanium (Hiltzik 1). This means that someone could easily conceal a weapon in their pants or shoes
if the weapon was made out any of these materials. Prior to September 11, 2001, people could sneak
weapons onto planes. The weapons included explosives and tools that individuals could use to help
hijack planes. In 1995, Al Qaeda plotted to bomb 12 United States trans–Pacific flights and also
planned to kill Bill Clinton on his trip to the Philippines (Cronin 2). Al Qaeda is a Muslim extremist
group that is known for resorting to terrorism and killing to please God. When a Muslim extremist
group a deadly attack, they think that they are eliminating the evil in the world.

The Characters Of After The First Death
After The First Death Many of the characters from After the First Death have been stripped of their
innocence. Raymond, a little kid that was on the bus that was hijacked was forced to eat candy
which made him think he was a bad kid since he was a "late baby." Kate had to lie through the story
and talk to the terrorist because she knew if she didn't he would kill her right away. Ben's father sent
him to deliver a message to the terrorist and they thought he was lying so they held him captive and
torched him till he told them truth and he felt like a coward for it. Characters Raymond, Kate, and
Ben, all victims, had their innocence taken away from them as the hijacking went on.
Miro, a terrorist was handing out the drugged candy and Raymond wouldn't take it because he didn't
want to be a bad kid. From the book After the First Death page 107 states, "he did not eat the candy
except at special times." Raymond tried to be as good as a kid he could because he knew he was a
late baby and thought it meant something bad. He would always hear his father telling his mother
that they couldn't be late and he felt bad because he was a late baby. Miro eventually made him eat
the candy which he didn't want to do because it made him think he was a bad kid if he did.
Eventually a sniper killed one of the terrorists so out of retaliation they killed Raymond. Raymond's
innocence was taken when they made him eat the drugged candy and then killed him.

What Is Security Screening?
Screening is part of the airports' security processes and its objectives are to deter, prevent, and
respond to criminal acts that may impact the safety and security of the flying public (Wells &
Young, 2003). The purpose of screening is in line with the objective of aviation security and it is
part of the multiple layers of aviation security. Albeit there is major criticism against security
screening mainly because it has failed to catch any terrorist while screening has become more
frustrating to passengers because of the wait in the queue and the ridicule of security screening
process itself. However, screening serves as a basic need and it works, because it has been
identifying weapons such as guns. This essay serves to provide a view on both sides of the argument
on security screening.
Security at commercial service airports includes passenger screening and checked–baggage
screening amongst other security protocols. Passengers are screened based on a passenger–screening
system (PSS). The system incorporates screening and profiling by labeling the passenger as either
low or high risk, if the passenger is considered low risk and is also not chosen at random to receive
additional scrutiny, the passenger passes through the metal detector and sends their carry–on bags
through the x–ray machine, and this process is called primary screening; if the passenger is labeled
as high risk, they have to pass through primary screening followed by a more thorough search of

Aviation Security : The United States
Aviation Security has evolved over the past 40 to 50 years showing the constant change in terrorist
acts in which the security of all passengers, crew, and aircrafts are at risk. The United States
Government must, now, stay up to date with the newest technology for screening passengers and
their belongings. The technology was not available 50 years ago, making it much more difficult for
countries to maintain safer environments in their airports. Hijackings in the United States was a
major shift in terrorism in the country during the Cold War. The 1960s was the beginning of in–
flight bombings as well. The 1980s showed a drastic increase in security from the FAA, but didn't
increase safety concerns after the bombing of Pan American Flight 103. In the 1990s, security
increased but it was still hard for the United States to maintain security. With ever–changing terrorist
threats occurring every year, especially with the possible cover–up of TWA Flight 800 and the
intelligence used regarding the Bojinka Plot not properly disbursed to the appropriate departments.
September 11, 2001 was the hardest era in United States history. The United States began it's shift
from being passive to aggressive. Technology is changing every day, so new security measures are
being put in place at all important infrastructures. Although this change is important, there are still
multiple challenges facing this country every minute. So, from the initiation of the Federal Aviation

Technology And Technology
In our modern culture, many of our population are attached to technology uses. It provides a source
of communication, entertainment, and for resources occasionally. This is why many individuals can't
ignore their cellphones because many are so used to adapting to the environment of technology. In a
news article, Tristan Harris refers to technology becoming so advanced by the day that it potentially
control our minds and the way we think about certain things. It's considered to be hijacking our
minds to making ourselves constantly thinking about daily news, messages, and even
entertainments. Harris implies different hijackings of mindset such as fear of missing something
important. Many individuals in our society value technology as a daily essential that allows us to
become more alerted and receive daily news quickly. Technology is by far so advanced that many
are so amazed and entertained that they lose track and it manipulates our way of thinking and acting
occasionally. The uses of technology is becoming a strong relationship of addiction towards many
today and may potentially reflect upon the younger generations.
Technology today it known to be a key resource and yet a huge distraction too many individuals. I
believe that technology has already hijacked our minds for many generations because many are so
obsessed over their gadgets that they spend hours on their smartphones rather than doing something
more productive. An example from the article is "Putting a slot machine in our pockets", which
means majority of our population usually feels asserted to be connected to our cellphones and if
there is a message or a notification it feels like a jackpot or a winner (Harris). This relates to Reiner
perspective of one of his students often "fake texts" in public to not feel left out, which connects to
wanting to be alerted and trying to find ways to keep oneself socially engaged with media. My
personally believe that when receiving a notification or message, I tend to view it from before
opening and responding back to my message beforehand. Another hijacking would be "fear of
missing something important" (Harris) in which in our modern culture many have adapted to social
media to receive news, alerts, and

Airport Security Before 9/11 Essay
The September 11th, 2001 terrorist attacks forever changed the way our air travel industry operates.
It affected the government, the airlines, airports, employees, and passengers alike. There was not as
much of a threat of terrorism before 9/11, so airport security was not nearly as thorough, and at
times intrusive as it is today. Through the creation of the Department of Homeland Security and the
Transportation Security Administration, the evolving threat of terrorism has not been successful in
carrying out another 9/11 style attack. Airport security before the attacks was minimal, which is why
the attack was able to orchestrated successfully. Airlines hired their own agents to screen passengers.
These employees were described as having "poor training due to unattractive wages and benefits
which resulted in the hiring of an unskilled, inexperienced labor force" (Taylor). Carry–ons were not
extensively searched as they are today, and many threats including knives, guns and explosives
made it past security onto passenger–carrying aircraft. Instead of the modern day Advanced Imaging
Technology screening machines that can detect a variety of possible threats, airports used to use
simpler metal detectors (TSA.gov). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Anyone could go through security to the gate, even if they didn't have a ticket. Unwanted persons
had the ability to access parts of the airport that they shouldn't have been able to for safety and

identification to "gain access to secure areas, bypass security checkpoints at two airports, and walk
unescorted to aircraft departure gates" (Taylor). Modern terrorists use car bombs extensively, which
if driven onto airport grounds and detonated, could cause great loss of life and injury to passengers

unprofessional, I will just continue to keep doing what I was doing and say a prayer under my

When he jumped he left nothing but a black bowtie. The FBI analyzed it with a powerful
microscope and found titanium particles along with others. "The main company to use titanium was
Boeing" (Fox News). It was a very rare metal and the fact that he had it on his bowtie means he had
to be working with it. Leading to a chance that he was working for Boeing. Also the plane he
hijacked was a Boeing plane (Fox news). This metal that was found on his bowtie was not used very
often back then was rare and hard to get. Only the high end companies were using is to build very
specific things. This metal being on his tie can be a strong lead that he worked for Boeing (Ingalls).
The jump from the plane was intense but if he had the current skills there is a good chance that he

National Geographic Provides Multiple Accounts Of Filmmakers
National Geographic provides multiple accounts of filmmakers who filmed what was going in
Manhattan on September11th. Allison Thompson was an accountant turned film director. The
morning of Thompson saw the first plane crash into the North tower on TV and knew immediately
that she had to go down there. Thompson lived on the Upper East Side, and decided she would roller
blade the eight miles to round zero. All she had with her was her camera and a medical bag filled
with supplies. Cynthia Malleran was a photographer that captured the daily view outside her
apartment overlooking the Twin Towers for about three years. Malleran described how she heard a
loud boom and she went to her window and saw a long cloud of dark smoke. Once she saw this she
picked up her camera and started to film. Star Reese did the same except she went on to the roof and
started filming. The main thing that struck Reese was seeing people fall from the building. It was
nothing like she had filmed before, she was familiar with filming the movements of the body, but
not familiar with filming someone killing themselves. Another thing Reese filmed was the inside of
her apartment after the towers had fallen. This was significant to see because her apartment was
close to the building that the windows were broken and there was dust everywhere. Ted Schilowsky,
a Polish filmmaker who was fascinated with the New York skyline and actually captured footage of
the moon in between the North and South tower of the

  • 1. Pros And Cons Of An Armed Pilot The Arming of Pilots Samantha Howard 19 May 2017 ELA 6 D. Will Table of Contents Abstract pg.3 Introduction pg.4 History pg.5 Problem Statement pg.5–6 Findings pg.7–8 Resolution pg.8 Conclusion pg.9 Works Cited pg.10 Addendum pg.11 Abstract The purpose of this research is to identify the pros and cons of an armed pilot. The argument on armed pilots has grown into a national debate. The goal is to bring awareness to the audience about plane hijacking and the benefits of a plane with arms on it for precautionary measures. This has been done by finding and examining many articles, periodicals and websites and citing the claims that have been read ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Everyone becomes aware of their fate and calls loved ones as an act of "last words". Ever since 9/11 the safety of a plane and its people has been every airlines top priority. There have been many changes in how an airline runs, some temporary and some everlasting. New advancements in machines for checking bags and people has sky rocketed. For example metal detectors, X–Rays and trace portal machines, all which check the human body for hidden metal and traces of bomb making material. There have also been added safety rules to create stricter guidelines on passenger and luggage screening, only passengers with tickets could go through security and travelers must remove shoes (Villemez 1). Liquids are no longer allowed on the plane unless distributed by the stewardess when you arrive on the plane ( Villemez 1). History The past is always recognized because it paves the way for the future. Many people study the past to make advancements so past happenings will not be repeated in the future. Looking back in the past for pilots, that job type has always been risky. There has always been the risk in flying a hunk of metal in the sky for miles trying to keep the plane steady with out crashing while facing adversity like turbulence and rain, but now there is an added worry to also losing control of the plane. Pilots now also must worry about extremists potentially hijacking the plane. There have been previous plane hijackings in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Flight 305 Research Paper On November 24, 1971, a passenger like any other boarded Northwest Orient Airlines Flight 305. The man known as D.B. Cooper, hijacked the plane with a ransom note that demanded money and parachutes, when he got the money he jumped off the plane, never to be seen again. Many have wondered how he succeeded the heist and if he even survived the jump. Along with D.B. Cooper, 36 other passengers boarded the Boeing 727, that was headed from Portland to Seattle. Soon after taking off, Cooper handed the flight attendant a note. When she looked at the note it read, "I have a bomb in my briefcase. I will use it if necessary. I want you to sit next to me. You are being hijacked." He then showed a glimpse of wires and red sticks in his brief case. Cooper ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When receiving the parachutes he refused the instructions on how to use them. This concluded that he probably had used parachutes before. Out of the parachutes he received he decided to use the non–steerable military parachute. Tom Kaye of Citizen Sleuths reports on why this would have been a good choice, "The military chute could better withstand the exit speed of the plane." It is believed that Cooper jumped out of the plane above Tacoma, Washington. Prior to jumping, he told the flight attendant to join the crew in the cockpit. Shortly after, a warning light indicated the rear door had been opened. The crew assumed that he had jumped at this point, which was over Washington. According to former Army Trooper Gregory Hall, D.B. Cooper made a diversion that was so successful that people have been searching in the wrong area ever since that night. Instead of immediately jumping out, Cooper would have waited and jumped out later when they already thought he was gone. This distraction would've been the perfect attempt to fool the FBI in its investigation. It seems to be no coincidence that D.B. Cooper ended up on a Boeing 727. The tie left behind on the plane showed that he could've been a worker for the company. According to a group of scientists selected by federal officials in Seattle, "A new analysis of the tie turned up particles of cerium, strontium sulfide, and pure titanium." The particles found were mainly used in the manufacture of certain aircrafts at the time. Tom Kaye of Citizen Sleuths, said the particles indicate Cooper may have worked in one of the rare industries where they were used. Kaye also said those substances were used in one of Boeing's plane that Cooper could've been a manger or engineer at. In addition to the theory that Cooper's landing zone was around Reno, two letters showed up at the Reno newspapers. A few days ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. The Terrorist Attacks Spread Fear And Fed Conspiracy... On September 11th 2001, the terrorist attacks spread fear and fed conspiracy theorists. On board United Airlines flight 93, everyone died, for a total of 44 losses ("United Airlines Flight 93"). UA93 crashed in a field near Shanksville, in Pennsylvania. Interpretations of the crash differ, as some believe the government covered–up its involvement in the attacks and others support that the passengers were celebrated as heroes, as they threatened their attackers (McConnachie and Tudge 401). The discussion of two contrasting opinions follows. David Ray Griffin believes UA93 was shot down by the U.S. Air Force, whereas James B. Meigs defends that the heroic resistance of the passengers caused the hijackers to pull the aircraft down. They both demonstrate that the nature and the position of the plane debris at the crash area, as well as the authorities' reactions to the hijacking, confirm their own point of view. Mr. Meigs explanations express more credibility than Mr. Griffin, due to the compared use of reliable experts to support their claim between the two men and the sufficient evidences to prove their viewpoint. First and foremost, David Ray Griffin, a retired professor of philosophy of religion and theology strongly believes that two military jets chased UA93 and shot it down, fired under the President Bush order. His first reason provided is that the U.S. authorities being certainly aware of the United Airlines hijacking, President Bush supposedly ordered the U.S. Air ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I did find a pretty amazing recipe for roasted red pepper Alfredo though. However, I did just lose three hours of my time. I could of finished various tasks in those three hours. I'll be the first one to admit it: smart technology is making me dumb. People like me rely on smart technology for too many things: phone books, directions, new information, etc. Soon people will depend on it for everything. I believe smart technology will hijack our lives. Many daily chores are completed by the use of smart technology. For example, smart technology can be used for: setting an alarm clock, making phone calls, balancing a bank account, paying bills, checking e–mails, doing homework, getting directions, etc. Many people take advantage of this. They may use their laptop, iPad, cellphone up to ten times a day to complete these tasks. I'll admit it, I have a favorite app myself. Pinterest! I'll lose hours on end getting lost in the app. However, smart technology does have better uses. Henry Ford community college student, Shandra Dicks, found a useful way to use smart technology. Dicks, loves to spend her spare time running. She also likes to keep track of her progress from day to day. Dicks, started using the Nike Sensor; a micro–chip she places in her shoe. • 11. Treaties Against Terrorism And Aircraft Hijacking treaties against terrorism and aircraft hijacking going as far back as the 70s. It was Universal jurisdiction that allowed Israel to try Adolf Eichmann in Jerusalem in 1961. Kissinger in his article stated that "thought it possible that national judges would use them as a basis for extradition requests regarding alleged crimes committed outside their jurisdiction". The Torture convention on 1984 that was ratified by 124 governments required that any torturer found in its territory will be tried where the torture took place even if that means extradition. A country that does not have the means to try someone in violation may extradite the torturer to a country that can. Then there is the Geneva conventions of 1949 on the conduct of war. The Geneva convention was ratified by 189 countries including the United States. All countries involved have agreed to search for persons regardless of nationality to courts for trial who are reasonably accused of crimes. Kissinger worries that the ICC was vague and ran the risk of being used for political agenda. Roth assures him that in fact that the treaty 's definition for war crimes follows closely to the Pentagon 's very own military manuals as well as the Geneva convention. The fear that judges and courts becoming tyrannical can be offset by the fact that as it stands prosecutors can be removed for misconduct by a majority vote. The ICC treaty even states that a two–thirds vote can remove a judge. Many of the concerns that the ICC ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Could 9/11 have a good outcome? I believe it may with it causing many life saving advances such as modern airport security, a war on terror, and surveillance Airport security is now a long and tedious event everyone dreads at the airport. The reason for the wait and rules is the hijacking that took place that fateful day. Many outrageous rules come from this such as no full sized toothpaste tubes and water bottles over 16 ounces. This is undoubtedly saving many lives day to day and preventing another 9/11 scenario but also causes some disruption and dislike by the common population of America. ... Emotional Hijacking Research Paper Emotional hijacking is the body's natural defense mechanism, it is what triggers the "fight or flight" response during a survival situation but it is also what triggers the protective system during less threatening situations that can either lead to over or under reacting to the conflict. One trigger that I have noticed that has caused an over reactive response for me is road rage. When I am cut off or stuck behind people that choose to drive slow in the fast lane but refuse to move over to allow me by I began driving more aggressively. One strategy that I have tried to use to help me with this is leaving a little earlier than normal so that I am not rushed for time. Kylan Soni Whitney High school Abstract The purpose of my study is to explore some of the different parts of D.B Cooper life, and specifically find out what happened to him after the hijacking, and his motive for committing the crime. After doing some research, I hope to answer my research question, which is what really happened to D.B Cooper, and if he is still alive, what is his true identity. Even to this day, the D.B cooper case remains the only unsolved skyjacking in the United States. The Theory that D.B Cooper Died Before people can start developing different theories about D.B Cooper, we first have to ask ourselves whether he survive the jump. As the FBI investigates this possibility, they discover more and more about the mysterious D.B Cooper. "We originally thought Cooper was an experienced jumper, perhaps even a paratrooper," says Special Agent Carr. However, after a few years of research and investigation, the FBI soon discovers that this could not true. According to the FBI, there was no trained paratrooper who could have jumped in the rain, in complete darkness, with a 200 mph wind, and survive. Even if D.B Cooper somehow managed to survived the jump, there was no way he could have survived in the middle of the forest without any supplies during the winter time. The FBI is almost positive that he had no one waiting for him after the jump. One reason why they believe this is that there would have been no way for anyone to track his location because no one could have known exactly where he landed. According to Agent Carr, he jumped at a random location with no ground visibility. Finally after many years of investigation, Special Agent Carr came to the conclusion that D.B Cooper did not survive the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 23. Arming Pilots Essay Protect Our People Please What do you do if someone is holding a gun in your face, and you have nothing to defend yourself with? Well that is the exact circumstance that we all have the chance of facing on a plane. Americans are expected to get on an airplane and feel safe and protected, but all that has happened on airplanes in the past ten years has left us fearful. We need to do something to make sure that we are safe on an airplane and that an American plane can never be hijacked again. We need to train and arm our pilots to ensure our safety on an airplane. Airplanes are massive and very complex pieces of machinery, and they help us get to places more efficiently and cheaper than traditional ways. Although we have seen that if ... Nearly two–thirds of those whom we trust to operate huge jets safely are former military aviators with firearms training, and skills–testing would not be a problem." Before September 11 many people had never had any fear of terrorism assuming that "something like that can only happen in a movie". These days, most people would think twice before boarding a plane. In my opinion arming pilots would increase people's confidence in airline security if they carried a gun and not just a weapon. As an alternative to firearms some experts propose arming pilots with stun guns or guns equipped with specialized bullets. The projectiles would "disintegrate on impact" to ensure the safety of the aircraft. But they could do serious damage to the human body, which is fine in the case of hijackers. The planes cockpits already come equipped with crash axes, which could be used as weapons. (Scott, 3) A survey was given on October ninth asking how many people would agree to letting pilots be armed, and seventy five percent said arm our pilots." The argument whether or not pilots should carry guns isn't based upon facts and statistics, but on beliefs and assumptions. Obviously, a pilot carrying a gun reduces the possibility that hijackers could succeed in their task. Also, the majority of the American public feels safer just knowing that many pilots are beginning to carry weapons. For those passengers ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 25. How Smartphones Are Hijacking Our Minds Summary In "How Smartphones are Hijacking our Minds", Nicholas Carr argues that smartphones are hijacking our minds. To strengthen his claim, Nicholas Carr uses strong diction, statistics, and irony, to emphasize phones hijacking minds. In the article, Carr refers to tests done be professors on college students. In one experiment, students had to take a test and some were told to either have their phone on the desk, others in their bag or pocket, and the rest in another room. The outcome showed higher scores for those whose phone was in a different room, then those whose phone was in their bag or pocket, then those whose phone was on the desk. Carr found the results "striking" and even went as far to say that as the proximity of the phone increased, the brain power decreased. Another test he refers to is one done in the University of Essex, in England. which was held to study social skills with the presence of a phone. The test revealed that "the mere presence of mobile phones" reduced trust and empathy. A third test he explains in his article is one with a group of strangers. They were told to type statements into a computer. Half were told that what they typed would be deleted, and the other half were told that what they typed would ... Essay on Guns in the Cockpit Guns in the Cockpit On the morning of September 11, 2001, four airplanes were hijacked and two of them, brought the collapse of the World Trade Center towers in New York City. As a result of these attacks on the United States, airports have come to the realization that the only way to prevent another hijacking is by strengthening the security on aircrafts through the cockpit. In order to secure the cockpit and ensure the safety of the passengers on board, guns were introduced as a possible solution in the event of an emergency situation like those that took place in September of 2001. The Transportation Security Administration head John Magaw, announced the administrations position that they are against guns in cockpits and a pilot ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When the craft was in the air, the terrorists took the initiative and stormed into the cockpit and took over the controls, turning the aircraft into a guided missile (CBS 1). Increasing security immediately became an important aspect of airports shortly there after. Adequate security ensures the safety of the people in the air and citizens on the ground below. It is expected by passengers, that they are boarding a craft that will land safely at their intended destination. An aircraft should be a safe place for everyone and even though every person that enters the airport goes through the required security checkpoints, there is a small fraction of error. Someone will get by with a potential weapon and board the plane along with it; therefore, the captains should have some form of a rear–view mirror (Press 2). One of the many proposals made since the attacks is installing video cameras in the cabin to monitor passenger activity for any possible terrorist actions. A pilot should be aware of what is happening to the plane and the passengers on board at all times. In a situation where someone is trying to hijack an airplane, there are three factors needed to be assessed. Does the terrorist have a weapon, are they attacking alone, and is he or she a trained fighter in the case of a Federal Air Marshal interfering (APSA 2)? Three agencies were significantly impacted by these changes and the aftermath of 9/11: Transportation Security Administration (TSA), U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), and Federal Air Marshal (FAM). However, 14 years later is important to review the changes which were implemented by sweeping popularity following 9/11 and evaluate their effectiveness. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) was established by the Aviation and Security Act signed into law on November 19, 2001. The Aviation and Security Act required the TSA complete more than 30 mandates by the end of 2002. In March 2003, TSA was transferred to the newly established Department of Homeland Security from the Department of Transportation (Transportation Security Administration). As of 2014, the TSA has an annual budget of $7.9 Billion and employs 62,000 people. However, there is evidence that the TSA may not be effective based on the cost. George Leef, a Forbes contributor, cited a Government Accountability Office (GAO) regarding the Screening of Passengers by Observation Techniques (SPOT). The SPOT program relies on the premise that government observers in airports can detect individuals who are intent on terrorism based on behavioral clues. The report issued by the GAO states that it is ineffective they concluded: "The subjectivity of the SPOT ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The prior method of a metal detector which did not alarm staff if nonmetallic threats existed allowed C–4 explosive (a clay type of explosive) to board the plan. The body scanners are quicker than the former methods of a "pat down", which every passenger had to endure and were less invasive. This system will be used by the TSA until a better method is discovered, which will provide faster screening, more privacy to passengers and better detection of threats. The cost of this has rising over the years but it was the initial setup of the TSA in 2002 which cost the most since there was not an agency within this realm that completed these duties. The newly fertilized egg is a zygote ––– not a fetus and not a human being. It is a few cells with potential but no distinguishing characteristics and no ability to feel anything. A zygote becomes a blastocyst, which is a zygote that has reached a certain number of cells but has not yet stuck to the uterine walls. Screening is part of the airports' security processes and its objectives are to deter, prevent, and respond to criminal acts that may impact the safety and security of the flying public (Wells & Young, 2003). The purpose of screening is in line with the objective of aviation security and it is part of the multiple layers of aviation security. Albeit there is major criticism against security screening mainly because it has failed to catch any terrorist while screening has become more frustrating to passengers because of the wait in the queue and the ridicule of security screening process itself. However, screening serves as a basic need and it works, because it has been identifying weapons such as guns. This essay serves to provide a view on both sides of the argument on security screening. Security at commercial service airports includes passenger screening and checked–baggage screening amongst other security protocols. Passengers are screened based on a passenger–screening system (PSS). The system incorporates screening and profiling by labeling the passenger as either low or high risk, if the passenger is considered low risk and is also not chosen at random to receive additional scrutiny, the passenger passes through the metal detector and sends their carry–on bags through the x–ray machine, and this process is called primary screening; if the passenger is labeled as high risk, they have to pass through primary screening followed by a more thorough search of their ... Aviation Security : The United States Aviation Security has evolved over the past 40 to 50 years showing the constant change in terrorist acts in which the security of all passengers, crew, and aircrafts are at risk. The United States Government must, now, stay up to date with the newest technology for screening passengers and their belongings. The technology was not available 50 years ago, making it much more difficult for countries to maintain safer environments in their airports. Hijackings in the United States was a major shift in terrorism in the country during the Cold War. The 1960s was the beginning of in– flight bombings as well. The 1980s showed a drastic increase in security from the FAA, but didn't increase safety concerns after the bombing of Pan American Flight 103. In the 1990s, security increased but it was still hard for the United States to maintain security. With ever–changing terrorist threats occurring every year, especially with the possible cover–up of TWA Flight 800 and the intelligence used regarding the Bojinka Plot not properly disbursed to the appropriate departments. • 60. Technology And Technology In our modern culture, many of our population are attached to technology uses. It provides a source of communication, entertainment, and for resources occasionally. This is why many individuals can't ignore their cellphones because many are so used to adapting to the environment of technology. In a news article, Tristan Harris refers to technology becoming so advanced by the day that it potentially control our minds and the way we think about certain things. It's considered to be hijacking our minds to making ourselves constantly thinking about daily news, messages, and even entertainments. Harris implies different hijackings of mindset such as fear of missing something important. Many individuals in our society value technology as a daily essential that allows us to become more alerted and receive daily news quickly. Technology is by far so advanced that many are so amazed and entertained that they lose track and it manipulates our way of thinking and acting occasionally. The uses of technology is becoming a strong relationship of addiction towards many today and may potentially reflect upon the younger generations. Technology today it known to be a key resource and yet a huge distraction too many individuals. I believe that technology has already hijacked our minds for many generations because many are so obsessed over their gadgets that they spend hours on their smartphones rather than doing something more productive. An example from the article is "Putting a slot machine in our pockets", which means majority of our population usually feels asserted to be connected to our cellphones and if there is a message or a notification it feels like a jackpot or a winner (Harris). This relates to Reiner perspective of one of his students often "fake texts" in public to not feel left out, which connects to wanting to be alerted and trying to find ways to keep oneself socially engaged with media. My personally believe that when receiving a notification or message, I tend to view it from before opening and responding back to my message beforehand. Another hijacking would be "fear of missing something important" (Harris) in which in our modern culture many have adapted to social media to receive news, alerts, and ... • 70. Airport Security Before 9/11 Essay The September 11th, 2001 terrorist attacks forever changed the way our air travel industry operates. It affected the government, the airlines, airports, employees, and passengers alike. There was not as much of a threat of terrorism before 9/11, so airport security was not nearly as thorough, and at times intrusive as it is today. Through the creation of the Department of Homeland Security and the Transportation Security Administration, the evolving threat of terrorism has not been successful in carrying out another 9/11 style attack. Airport security before the attacks was minimal, which is why the attack was able to orchestrated successfully. Airlines hired their own agents to screen passengers. These employees were described as having "poor training due to unattractive wages and benefits which resulted in the hiring of an unskilled, inexperienced labor force" (Taylor). Carry–ons were not extensively searched as they are today, and many threats including knives, guns and explosives made it past security onto passenger–carrying aircraft. Instead of the modern day Advanced Imaging Technology screening machines that can detect a variety of possible threats, airports used to use simpler metal detectors (TSA.gov). ... Unwanted persons had the ability to access parts of the airport that they shouldn't have been able to for safety and security reasons. In a case in May 2000, Department of Transportation agents used fake identification to "gain access to secure areas, bypass security checkpoints at two airports, and walk unescorted to aircraft departure gates" (Taylor). Modern terrorists use car bombs extensively, which if driven onto airport grounds and detonated, could cause great loss of life and injury to passengers inside aircraft and/or ... • 72. Emotional Hijacking Research Paper One trigger that would lead me to emotional hijacking is when an employee walks into the office and does not speak. I was taught to speak when I am the last person to walk into a room of people. I think it is very rude and disrespectful when someone comes into a building or room and does not speak. When someone comes into a room and not speak, instead of saying something that is unprofessional, I will just continue to keep doing what I was doing and say a prayer under my breath. The second trigger is when someone walks into my office while I am having a conversation with another employee. Most of the time my door is open, so if someone has to ask me something; they will just walk in. I feel as though they should not only respect me, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It has been an open case for years with many suspects but no answer. "One of the most famous cases in history. The FBI has investigated about 1000 suspects" (Gray Source 1). The case may be unsolved but there are two sides to the story. He is either dead or alive when he landed the jump. There is a good chance he made it out alive from the jump. That being said there are four main suspects who could have committed the crime proving that he was alive after he jumped from the plane. It all started in Portland ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When he jumped he left nothing but a black bowtie. The FBI analyzed it with a powerful microscope and found titanium particles along with others. "The main company to use titanium was Boeing" (Fox News). It was a very rare metal and the fact that he had it on his bowtie means he had to be working with it. Leading to a chance that he was working for Boeing. Also the plane he hijacked was a Boeing plane (Fox news). This metal that was found on his bowtie was not used very often back then was rare and hard to get. Only the high end companies were using is to build very specific things. This metal being on his tie can be a strong lead that he worked for Boeing (Ingalls). The jump from the plane was intense but if he had the current skills there is a good chance that he would land the jump. There were also multiple things found after the jump that could lead to him being alive. The many suspects help support that he was alive after the jump. • 80. National Geographic Provides Multiple Accounts Of Filmmakers National Geographic provides multiple accounts of filmmakers who filmed what was going in Manhattan on September11th. Allison Thompson was an accountant turned film director. The morning of Thompson saw the first plane crash into the North tower on TV and knew immediately that she had to go down there. Thompson lived on the Upper East Side, and decided she would roller blade the eight miles to round zero. All she had with her was her camera and a medical bag filled with supplies. Cynthia Malleran was a photographer that captured the daily view outside her apartment overlooking the Twin Towers for about three years. Malleran described how she heard a loud boom and she went to her window and saw a long cloud of dark smoke. Once she saw this she picked up her camera and started to film. Star Reese did the same except she went on to the roof and started filming. The main thing that struck Reese was seeing people fall from the building. It was nothing like she had filmed before, she was familiar with filming the movements of the body, but not familiar with filming someone killing themselves. Another thing Reese filmed was the inside of her apartment after the towers had fallen. This was significant to see because her apartment was close to the building that the windows were broken and there was dust everywhere. Ted Schilowsky, a Polish filmmaker who was fascinated with the New York skyline and actually captured footage of the moon in between the North and South tower of the ...
