1) Malaise
Meaning: uneasiness, distress, sickness, feeling of
discomfort, illness
Trick to remember: जब बच्चे को होती बेचैनी (uneasiness) म ाँ
करती है बच्चे की maalish(malaise)
Sentence: Ramu knew he was getting ill because of
the malaise he had been experiencing for a few days.
2) Itinerant
Meaning: roaming, nomadic, a person who travels from
place to place.
Trick to remember: (itinerant = itnee si rent) देक
े auto में इधर
उधर घूमन ।With cheap rent he is traveling from one place to
another.
Sentence: The documentary follows the life of
an itinerant homeless man who never sleeps in a location
more than once.
3) Baneful:
Meaning: harmful or destructive
Trick to remember: ban करो जो harmful है। Ban those things
which are very harmful.
Sentence: If not cooked properly, the fish can be baneful to
humans.
4) Impost:
Meaning: tax
Trick to remember: I am posted in tax department.
Sentence: Australia makes no impost on pension benefits
after the age of 60.
5) Stout:
Meaning: fat, obese
Trick to remember: st(stomoach) + out = stout. Those who
are very fat generally their stomach is out.
Sentence: He was a tall, stout man with white hair.

1) Juvenile: young, a juvenile is a child or young person
who is not yet old enough to be regarded as an adult.
Trick to remember: Juven= jawan (जवान)
eg: The boy's case was adjudged in the juvenile court.
2) Lampoon: to criticize, publicly criticize (someone or
something) by using ridicule.
Trick to remember: जब वो बह र खेलने ज त है तो lamp
on करक
े चल ज त है। हर ददन lamp off करन भूल ज त है।
इसदलए उसे उसकी mummy डााँट थी है।
Whenever he leaves the room he keeps lamp on. That's why
his mom scolds/criticizes him as he forgets to off it everyday.
eg: His cartoon mercilessly lampoon the leading politician of
the day.
3) Sedulous: hardworking, (of a person or action) showing
dedication and diligence
Trick to remember: sedulous= schedule. जो schedule भन त
है वो hard work करत है। One who makes a schedule or time
table he will work hard.
eg: Even though you completely destroy the ant bed time after
time, those sedulous ants will continue to go right back to
work rebuilding it.
4) Abhor: hate, to feel strong aversion or intense dislike for

He does not talk. You will hate him.
eg: People who seek peace abhor violence.
5) Sabbatical: paid leave, a period of paid leave granted to
a university teacher or other worker for study or travel.
Trick to remember: sabbatical= sab + bate + kal. सब ब ते
कल करेंगे क्यू की कल छुट्टी है मेरी।
eg: Several professors will be taking sabbaticals this year.

1) Podgy/ pudgy: very fat, obese,
(of a person or part of their body) rather fat; chubby.
Trick to remember: (podgy= पड गयी), नीचे पड गयी, वो लडकी
बहुत fat थी इसदलए भ गते भ गते दगर गयी।
eg: Varun, your front tire is looking a bit podgy.
2) Portly: very fat, obese
Trick to remember: (portly = पोटली) He is so fat that that his
stomach is like पोटली. पेट पे पोटली लटक कर चल रह है।
eg: Because the portly woman was unhappy with her weight,
she joined a weight loss program.
3) Assiduous: hardworking, constant in application or
effort; working diligently at a task
Trick to remember: Assiduous(As Sid Want to go to US) for
higher studies he is working very hard.
eg: With your assiduous attempt at learning French, I think
you will master the language in no time.
4) Diligent: hardworking, having or showing care and
conscientiousness in one's work or duties.
Trick to remember: dili(Delhi) + gent. Delhi gents are
very hard working.
eg: From his youth he was diligent in his studies.
5) Toil: hard work, exhausting physical labour
Trick to remember: Toilet स फ करने क
े लोए महनत
करना पडत है. It takes extra bit of hard work to clean a
toilet.
eg: You should hire rahul because he is a hard worker who
will toil until the job is done.
Easy tricks for Vocabulary (DAY 4)
1) Exemplar: a person or thing serving as a typical example
or appropriate model, epitome or paragon, perfect example
Trick to remember: (Example) उसी की example ददय ज त है
जो exemplar है।
eg: I think a president should indeed strive to be
an exemplar.
2) Renounce: to give up by formal declaration, to say
formally that you no longer want to have something or to be
connected with something.
Trick to remember: (rani + announce)
Rani ने announce दकय की वो अपनी पध renounce(मतलब त्य ग
देन ) कर रही है।
eg: To renounce worldly pleasures.
3) Disgruntled: unhappy, disappointed and annoyed,
dissatisfied
Trick to remember: Disgruntled= Desh + grant. देश की
सक ार grant क्योों नहीोंदे रही है CBI Enquiry क । Students are
disgruntled.
eg: Even though Varun is disgruntled about losing his job, he
still plans to find another one in the same field.
4) Savant: Scholar, a learned person
Trick to remember: Rakhi Sawant खुद को बहुत ववद्वान समझ
थी है।
eg: She is a savant in the field of medical ethics
5) Demise: The death of a person
Trick to remember: De(Dekho) + Mise(Mice मतलब
चूह ) . देखो mice ka demise होगय ।
eg: His Friend's demise occurred unexpectedly in a traffic
accident.

1) Rage: violent uncontrollable anger, wrath, temper, गुस्सा

2) Desist: stop doing something; cease or abstain, refrain,

eg: The soldiers have been ordered to desist from firing their
guns.
3) Augment: increase, make (something) greater by adding
to it, बढ़ना

Augment = आग + increment
eg: Varun wants to augment his income, So he is thinking
about getting a second job.
4) Aftermath: result, the consequences or after-effects of a

1) Stumpy: fat, podgy, stout, obese, मोटा
Trick to remember: stumpy = stump. International

मोटा होत है।

2) Industrious: hardworking, diligent, मेहनती
Trick to remember: Industry मे जो क म करते है वो
बडे मेहनत करते है।

3) Laborious: hardworking, requiring much physical effort;

4) Detest: hate, abhor, dislike intensely, नफ़रत करना
Trick to remember: (Detest = The + Test) Students

5) Agile: able to move quickly and easily, nimble, तेज

1) Boorish: rude, impolite
Trick to remember: (boorish = बुरी सी) हमेश बुरी सी ब तें
करने व ले लोग boorish होते है।
eg: He is boorish and rash , so he always brings trouble to his
family.
2) Despise: hate, abhor, detest
Trick to remember: (Despise = This + Spicy) This is very spicy.
So I hate that dish.
eg: I despise anyone who is cruel to animals.
3) Rancor: An angry feeling of hatred or dislike for someone

4) Arcane: secret, hidden
Trick to remember: ar = अरे cane = क न. अरे क न में बोलत
हाँ secret वरन सब सुन लेंगे।

eg: People always inquired why the identity of my
grandfather was kept arcane.
5) Abridge: Shorten(a piece of writing) without losing the
sense, curtail, truncate
Trick to remember: Bridge is constructed for making
distance short.
eg: The book was abridged for children.

1) Saturnine: gloomy, उदास ,दुखी
Trick to remember: (Saturnine = Saturday + Nine)
Saturday भी 9 PM तक क म करव रहे है। इसदलए

at home alone.
2) Abortive: unsuccessful, fail, असफल

1) Doleful: filled with sadness or grief, mournful, शोकग्रस्त
Trick to remember: dole = डोली , ful = full. जब लड़की की डोली

है।
eg: Because Varun has not received any news of his missing

होली। That is why he is so sad.
eg: The film’s tragic ending put us all in a melancholy mood.
4) Dolorous: Sad, gloomy, उदास
Trick to remember: (dolorous = Dolor + USA).

eg: The voice of the mournful chanter called

5) Salubrious: healthful, healthy, स्वस्त
Trick to remember: Sallu(Salman Khan) is healthy.
eg: Vegetables are salubrious foods which provide essential
nutrients.

1) Novice: Beginner, inexperienced person, नया
Trick to remember: (Nov = नव (नया), ice = इसे) ये नया है इसे

2) Jubilant: overjoyed, ecstatic, खुश, उल्ल दसत

watch a movie secretly without taking permission. When you
were returning to hostel, you were caught by hostel warden.
He complained to the headmaster. Then imagine what
happens. You will be expelled from the hostel.
3) Arduous: involving or requiring strenuous effort; difficult

5) Ruminate: think deeply about something
Trick to remember: (Ruminate = Room + ate) His father
was eating in a room and thinking deeply about his

1) Reverie: daydreaming, lost in pleasant thoughts
Trick to remember: (Reverie = river)

behind her.
2) Abandon: give up completely (a practice or a course of
action), leave behind, त्याग देना
Trick to remember: (Abandon = अब + बोंधन)

3) Recalcitrant: Stubborn, having an obstinately

2) Beleaguer: harass, cause problems or difficulties for, to

3) Gamut: The complete range or scope of

1) Abate: to subside, to reduce, lessen, diminish, घटन , कम
होन
Trick to remember: (Abate = अब + ate)
Here ate is the past tense of eat. So when we eat the
quantity in the plate tends to reduce or lessen.
eg: In an hour or so the storm would abate and they could
leave.
2) Aberration: A deviation from what is normal, something
not typical, abnormality, स म न्य से दवचलन
Trick to remember: Aberration sounds like abortion which is
not normal delivery.
eg: She is normally calm and level headed, so this outburst is
an aberration.
3) Abet: to assist, help, aid (especially in some wrong
doing), उकस न
Trick to remember: (Abet = A + bet)
Generally college students are involved in betting and they
are abetted(encouraged) by their friends in this wrongdoing.
eg: He abetted the thief in robbing the bank.
4) Abeyance: Temporary suspension, temporary inactivity
Trick to remember: (Abeyance = अब + yawns)
Students started yawning and so the teacher gave them 5
minutes break i.e temporary suspension.
eg: Once the famine was over, the food rationing dictated by
the government was put in abeyance.
5) Abstain: refrain from something, to choose not to do or
have something
Trick to remember: (Abstain = अब + stain)
Imagine a mother scolding her child. "अब stains नहीोंलगने
च दहये। Stay away from such activities. Refrain from
playing in mud.
eg: I am trying to abstain from sweets for my new diet.

1) Abyss
Meaning: A very deep gulf or pit, immeasurable space
Memory tricks: Abyss = A + बीस feet क गड्ढ
आगे बीस feet क गड्ढ है। जर स वध न से चलन ।
Sentence: Mountain climbers must take great care lest they
slip and fall into an abyss.
2) Acclimate
Meaning: adapt, to accustom to a new environment or
climate
Memory tricks: (Acclimate = Adjust + Climate)
Whenever we move to a new place, we have to adapt to the
new climate.
Sentence: It took him only a few days to acclimate to the
new school.
3) Acme
Meaning: The highest point, summit, peak
Memory tricks: Acme sounds like face cream Lakme. After
applying Lakme products her beauty rises to its acme(highest
point)
Sentence: The empire was at the acme of its power.
4) Acrid
Meaning: harsh, bitter, pungent
Memory tricks: Remove letter 'r' from acrid. It becomes acid.
Acid is always pungent and bitter in taste.
Sentence: After taking the medicine, I had an acrid taste in
my mouth that was very unpleasant.
5) Acumen
Meaning: the ability to make good judgements and take
quick decisions, mental sharpness, shrewdness.
Memory tricks: (Acumen = IQ + Men)
Men with high IQ have ability to judge quickly. They have
high mental sharpness.
Sentence: Capable lawyers with business acumen are
valuable to any firm.

1) Aghast
Meaning: Filled with horror or shock, horrified, astounded
Memory trick: (Aghast = A + ghost)
After seeing a ghost movie everyone became horrified.
Sentence: Helen was aghast when she found the illegal drugs
buried in her backyard.
2) Aloof
Meaning: detached, alone, unresponsive
Memory trick: (Aloof = Alone + roof)
He is alone on roof top. He never talks too much. He is very
reserved and detached.
Sentence: He kept himself aloof from all party strife.
3) Ameliorate
Meaning: To improve, make(something bad or
unsatisfactory) better
Memory trick: (Ameliorate = Amul ka rate)
Amul's rates are increasing because they are trying
to improve its quality.
Sentence: She wanted to ameliorate the situation.
4) Amicable
Meaning: having a friendly attitude, cordial
Memory trick: (Amicable = A + mixable person)
A mixable person mixes very well with others. He is very
jovial and friendly.
Sentence: If you were a bit more amicable, people would not
be afraid to approach you.
5) Amnesty
Meaning: To pardon, to forgive
Memory trick: (Amnesty = Aman + Nasty)
Aman you have done a nasty thing. But since your my friend,
I will forgive you.
Sentence: The new law granted amnesty to those who
illegally left the country.

1) Approbation
Meaning: approval or praise, प्रशोंस
Trick to remember: (Approbation = After + probation)
After probation the management praised his good work and
made him a permanent employee.
Sentence: I need to write a powerful resume to
gain approbation from an employer.
2) Apprehension:
Meaning: nervousness, anxious, fearful, uneasiness
Trick to remember: (Apprehension = Ab pre(prelims) hai son)
अब prelims exam है son. Are you anxious or fearful about
what will happen?
Sentence: Students are quite apprehensive about results.
3) Anathema
Meaning: a religious curse, अविशाप
Trick to remember: [Anathema = अन थ (orphan) +
म ाँ (mother)]
She became अन थ after losing her म ाँ because of an
anathema (a religious curse)
Sentence: The epidemic which killed dozens of small children
was an anathema to the residents of the town.
4) Amiss
Meaning: not quite right, inappropriate or out of place
Trick to remember: (Amiss = missing)
Something is missing. Something is not
right or inappropriate.
Sentence: After five police cars surrounded my neighbor’s
house, I knew something was amiss there.
5) Apocalypse
Meaning: Complete destruction of the world, कय मत
Trick to remember: (Apocalypse = A + big eclipse)
According to a prediction in 2012, a big eclipse would have
led to an apocalypse (complete destruction of the world)
Sentence: The movie 2012 is based on the concept
of apocalypse.

Trick to remember: (podgy= पड गयी), नीचे पड गयी, वो लडकी बहुत fat थी इसदलए भ गते भ गते दगर गयी। eg: Varun, your front tire is looking a bit podgy. 2) Portly: very fat, obese Trick to remember: (portly = पोटली) He is so fat that that his stomach is like पोटली. पेट पे पोटली लटक कर चल रह है।

Easy tricks for Vocabulary (DAY 4) 1) Exemplar: a person or thing serving as a typical example or appropriate model, epitome or paragon, perfect example Trick to remember: (Example) उसी की example ददय ज त है जो exemplar है। eg: I think a president should indeed strive to be an exemplar. 2) Renounce: to give up by formal declaration, to say formally that you no longer want to have something or to be connected with something.
