Agriculture is the science of farming, it includes the
cultivation of soil for growing crops, rearing
animals to provide food, wool and other products,
and harvesting grown crops as effectively as
possible.

• Pakistan is blessed with a rich and vast fertile
land covering various climatic zones.
• Pakistan is divided into 10 Agro-Ecological zones
based on the climate and water availability.
• Agriculture is the major contributor to the
economy of Pakistan.

• Agriculture contributes 22.67% in GDP of
Pakistan.
• It employs 37.4% of Labour Force in
Pakistan.
• About 27% of Pakistan’s total land is under
cultivation
• Agriculture is a vital sector of Pakistan’s
economy.
5. Crops
• The main agriculture products are wheat, rice,
sugarcane, fruits and vegetables.
• There are 2 major agricultural seasons :
i. Rabi (Winter Crops)
ii. Kharif (Autumn Crops)
6. Irrigation
• Pakistan has one of the largest irrigation system
in the world and it is capable of distributing
water to 16 million hectares of land.
• The main source of Pakistan’s irrigation system is
Indus water and its tributaries
