4. Cupping therapy 拔罐法
Backgrounds:
In Chinese medicine classics it was
named as „horn method“, „suction
tube method“ or „fire cupping
cupping“. In the past it has been
mainly applied for the treatment of
carbuncles and furuncles while
nowadays it used to treat in
combination with acupuncture for
skin disease, acute sprains with
blood stasis, neurodermatitis and
other blood letting treatments.

8. Cupping methods – retaining method
An Introduction
The cup is attached to the skin of the body,
retaining for 10-15 minutes and then taken off.

9. Cupping methods – Successive flash method
An Introduction
The cup is sucked to the selected place and
removed repeatedly and swiftly until the skin
besomes reddish and congested hyperaemic.

An Introduction
Also called as push or pull cupping method. It is
suitable for treatment of a large are with rich
muscles such as the back, the lumbus etc.

An Introduction
In this method cupping is combined with
bloodletting puncturing therapy. It is suitable for
the treatment of heat syndromes, excessive
syndromes, excessive cold syndromes and blood
stagantion syndromes in relation with skin
disease.

An Introduction
This method can be applied for Wind Dampness Bi syndromes but
should not to be used on the area of the chest and upper back position of
the body. The pressure inside the cup easily can push the needle to
deeper layers of the body and lead to pneumothorax.

An Introduction
On removal, hold the cup with the left hand and press the skin beside the
edge of the cup with the right hand to let air enter the cup, then release it.

An Introduction
Caution for burning or scalding the skin during treatment. If blisters
appear due to scalding for a long time retaining of the cup, no more
treatment is needed for a small blister besides covering the sterilized
gauze on the blisters. For a bigger blister, drainage of liquid with a sterile
syringe to prevent infection.
15. Management after treatment with Cupping glasses
1. After removing the cup, apply a sterile cotton ball to gently wipe the skin and
red spots.
2. If there is pain or feeling of itchy after removing the cup, do not scratch the
surface and wait until the spot can fade away within a few days.
3. If small blisters appear allow a few days to let them absorb themselves, no
treatment is required; if blisters are large, apply disinfection and use sterile
needle to release the fluid or apply a sterile gauze to prevent from infection.
4. Do not apply cupping therapy on skin irritation, ulcers, edema and large blood
vessels. Also do not apply cupping on pregnant women's abdomen and
lumbosacral are.
